I want to be a good Negro!

*

"Monday, July 27, 2009 Black Female Officer Kelly King defends Sgt Crowley.I came across this video on Booker Rising. This video definitely makes Obama and Gates look very petty in their regards to invoking race into Mr. Gate's arrest. The black female officer is Kelly King of the Cambridge Police Department. I was shocked that CNN actually interviewed her. She sounded very impassioned in her support of Sgt. Crowley. Obama want to talk on about a "teachable moment", the ultimate teachable moment for people like Henry Gates, Barack Obama and others is at the 58 second mark in the video. When I see people like Gates and Obama, I see them as a representation of everything that is wrong in America regarding race relations. Kelly King represents what is right about race relations in our country. I'm not just saying this, because she said she wasn't voting for Obama again. I had to laugh at that one myself."

I am not in a good mood. The house Negroes are winning. Pretty soon massa will have to build a brand new wing on that bitch to accommodate all of them. See it's like this: Here in A-merry-ca
good Negroes get to set the dialogue when it comes to race and race relations, because good Negroes never rock the boat or upset the status quo. Good Negroes always make us feel comfortable about ourselves and our beautiful country built on racial harmony. Lately, good Negroes are all the rage. Kelly King and Leon Lashley are good Negroes. They can always be counted on to dismiss the field Negroes and their racism chasing habits. Good Negroes don't worry about racism because their white friends and bosses are sooooo good to them. A good Negro will always have a job and a place in the house here in A-merry-ca. To white folks, good Negroes are like pets, and we all know how white folks feel about their pets. Good Negroes feed into all the stereotypes so that white folks don't have to worry about offending them. For instance, if you are white and you have a good Negro over to your house, do you want to be constantly worrying what Negroes eat? Or do you want to be able to say: Honey, we are having some Negroes over, do we have enough Kool-Aid and friend chicken?......let me stop.... *trying to type and get serious, trying to type and get serious*

So I am watching Tina Brown (Editor of the "Daily Beast") this morning and she was talking about her article which dissed his O ness for getting off his health care message and falling victim to ---as she said on "Morning Joe"--- this "distraction". See, for people like Tina Brown, race is just a "distraction." That's what good Negroes do for white folks, they make race a "distraction". For some of us Negroes, it's a little more than that. It's something we live with every fucking day. Even if we are considered the successful ones, or the ones who have "made" it. (Just ask Skippy Gates and his 56% white ass. I bet he is not a good Negro anymore.) Distraction? Hey, I want universal health care as much as the next bleeding heart liberal. But guess what? If every A-merry-can is guaranteed health care but poor and minority people are still treated differently when they go to have it administered, we will be right back at square one. So yes, I would say the problem of race in A-merry-ca is more than just a little "distraction."

Anyway, I don't want to spoil the party. Tomorrow it's beer for the boyz at the White House, and his O ness will throw back some brews with the liar, Jim Crow, (Thanks Rippa) and the good doctor. (Boy I would love to be a fly on the White House wall) I wonder if his O ness will tell the men that some republiklans in congress are trying to pass a bill to force him to apologize to his new beer buddy? Yes, you read right, they are trying to move a bill through the house to force O bama to apologize because they think he abused his presidential power. See, that's what happens when the man thinks you are no longer being a good Negro. He tries to force your ass to be a good Negro by passing laws and shit. Poor Obama, deep in his heart he knows that the SOB is a liar, (I bet Michelle won't be there. I don't think Michelle is a good Negro, do you?) but what can he do? He already promised to have ole Jim over to pound back some brews. He can't back out now. He told the entire country for crying out loud.

After it's over they will all go to the White House lawn, have a quick press conference, and there will be plenty I love you mans to go around.

I have to learn to be a good Negro. I wonder if there is a good Negro school somewhere?

Do not be fooled, or mis-led. This is not about “good” or “bad” Negro behavior. This is about common sense, decorum and adult actions. If the good Doctor used colorful language, and did not have the self- awareness or common sense to act within the spectrum of rational behaviors facing a challenge, the world will show its disdain, and karma takes over.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
    But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

    If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
    If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
    And treat those two impostors just the same;

If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with wornout tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
    And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
    If all men count with you, but none too much;

If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man my son!

The trampling will continue with inappropriate behaviors, irrational statements (I’ll see your Momma outside), and incendiary accusations. I do not expect rational behavior or valued judgments from whites, and one needs only to look at current prison populations in the United States to concur with that statement. I also have the luxury at present to live outside the States……for the obvious reasons

  10. Field, some of the biggest Toms out there are in the military, police forces and athletics (from high school to the pros; ironic because these are folk you think are all flashy and full of swag). Usually they are low class spooks who "find themselves" by being a "part" of something regimented. That becomes more important than anything else--even bigger issues. Often it comes across as naivete.

Are there Field Negroes in the military, among cops and in sports? Many more than the scumbag traitors. But they need to speak the fuck up.

Mr. Chambers makes the best point of all frankly. “The hand that feeds them”. I knew what was up in the U.S. years ago in my little town of WVA, and swore to go somewhere (language change) to live like a natural human. Prof. Gates should have kept his head….two Negroes with their shoulders on the door…..nice house…..probably a “white neighborhood”. What are the expectations! Remember they got Nat Turner also! I vowed to leave, and have not been back since 1992. I had the privilege of leaving L.A. during the riots.

The “Field Negro”/ “House Negro” philosophy is telling in the aspect of mindset, and position. I will also forward that it is a high mountain to cross. I can say I know of one white man from North Carolina who went through the same situation at his home…..actually mobile home. He was drunk, evil and had lost his keys. After staggering around kicking at his front door, the county sheriffs pounced on him. The tussle found all three men crashing through the door. After bepopping his chops with black jacks (circa 1962) a final determination was made that the drunk belonged there, however he required transport to the county hospital for a broken jaw and obtrusions on his gourd. I have never trusted, liked or even needed a police officer in my life. I do know that any racial situation reported on will bring out the worst in people, but this is a world wide problem, not peculiar to the U.S. only.

  22. This mean the next time some white cop busts up an innocent black man, they both get invited to the White House to sing Kumbayah over a beer? Or, if it's New York, maybe the widow of the innocent black man gets the invite.

  23. The problem here is that we all, Black people, initially let this be about Skip Gates. From now on we really need to speak of the bigger issues and not allow ourselves to be limited to talking about a specific event.

A bill should be passed to take all computers out of trailer parks so we don't have to be bothered with the stupidity...meanwhile, I advise people to just move on past any anonymous posts. For the life of me I cannot figure out why the media is not shedding more light on how Crowley LIED on his police report, lied to the news media, and to America in general. I challenge ANYONE to find an instance where a bill was passed to make a president apologize (even when brother Bill Clinton lied about having sexual relations to America with that slut)for any comments he made. Oh, I forgot again, there never has been a black President before now so I'm sure we will be seeing a lot of new things happen in America to make sure that our President stays in his place. You can bet that bill will never be passed, but just the nerve of comptemplating it.

FNC Responds to Glenn Beck Calling Pres. Obama a "Racist"

This morning on Fox and Friends, Glenn Beck said he thinks Pres. Barack Obama has "a deep-seeded hatred for white people." Brian Kilmeade questioned him on it, but Beck persisted: "I'm not saying he doesn't like white people, I'm saying he has a problem. This guy is, I believe, a racist."

This afternoon, Bill Shine, SVP of Programming told TVNewser, "During Fox & Friends this morning, Glenn Beck expressed a personal opinion which represented his own views, not those of the Fox News Channel. And as with all commentators in the cable news arena, he is given the freedom to express his opinions."

Yeah that's true but didn't we already know that? My point is just if we had not let Skip and his craziness become the focus then we could have talked about the larger issue of police (non)relations with the Black communities at-large.

At this point we are bogged down with nonsense and tied to this particular case.

This has happened before. The Jena 6 are a good example. The focus should have been a larger conversation about disparities in sentencing but we got bogged down with that specific case.

So there was no real progress made. And of course the Jena 6 got new clothes and an aperance on BET, just as now when Skip ends-up having a beer at the White House and the conversation is not advanced.

Field, I am probably on the wrong blog for this kind of talk but my experience has been that there has always been far more HN than FN. I have been betrayed and have seen betrayal of our folks by other Blacks happen too many times. In fact, it has become pretty routine.

Their true colors show up when they have to make a choice between doing what white folks want, or doing the right thing in support of their people. More Blacks will generally say, "I'm with you, brothas and sistas", but when tested by the white man, they fold like a kimono in a soft breeze.

The timeline & facts need to be pursued. Every claim of what the witness said must be addressed in discovery. Good point! If in fact he falsified a police report, (obviously) he should be penalized. Dr. Gates should pursue that angle in earnest. I recommend a grand jury be convened to dissect the time line and official statements made.

(The black mayor can make that happen!!!!)

The mayor of Cambridge, Massachusetts, said she is going to meet with the city's police chief to make sure the scenario that caused the arrest of a prominent black Harvard University professor does not happen again.

Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. says he and his attorneys are considering further actions.

"This suggests that something happened that should not have happened," Cambridge Mayor E. Denise Simmons said on CNN's "American Morning." "The situation is certainly unfortunate. This can't happen again in Cambridge."

I wish the President had used his words like a scalpel or machete like you do in response to the idiocy of some of these posts.(couldn't resist the medical reference). That way all those ignorant folk wouldn't know what cut them. Instead, he's looked castrated--I mean cut, even if he didn't really apologize.

Colin Powell was generally pretty good tonight--especially with his sharing about his own episode of being racially profiled, and not condemning Gates for being a tired, frustrated and angry black man at that time. But his advice to folk about dealing with the police, common sense though it may have been, just confirms that ain't no such thing as post-racial. We still have a helluva ways to go.

Folk always talking 'bout his O-ness being the president of all the people. Inherent in that is the responsibility to have some balls about one part of the people when necessary--and not back down. The activation of power is not the abuse of it.

Naw, the bull, I mean beer session won't accomplish anything. But maybe a discussion of the true abuse of power that Crowley displayed will get discussed. Well, I can only dream.

  82. Seda: "Dude, this country is full of "good Negro schools"! A lot of them are public schools."

Seda, your wisdom descends upon us like a refreshing rain.

Our schools are so focused on the
3Rs, they leave out the most important one--Reasoning.

The ability to think rationally as adults has to be our most cherished attribute, but thinking is given short shrift in our public schools, and in college.

There, what one gets--rather than tools for logical thinking--is indoctrination.

And when the "tools" are offered, they're used to maintain the status-quo, not to challenge our history, our decisions, our policies, or our world outlook.

Hell, we can't have students thinking for themselves! They must be force-fed what we want them to hold as true--the facts that are safe, and wholesome to ingest.

Beginning in kindergarten, children should be taught how to think, not what to think, how to choose from a plethora of choices, not what to choose, how to problem-solve, not to have their problems solved for them.

What we have today are adults making decisions and choices that are "stupid," to use the term of the president.

Better thought processes, buttressed with critical thought, and critical thinking, would have eliminated racism years ago, emptied our prisons, and kept Professor Gates' mug at home, rather than in a "mug shot" strewn about the Internet.

The white cops were doing what their mommy and daddies indoctrinated them into since birth, the black cops are merely doing what they trained for since discovering they would never have the guts or character to be Black, they are whiter than the white man, they are like the juganats, the jews that helped the nazi's round up other jews for extermination. the problem as the government knows and anyone with an ounce of sense is that you can put a pretty shiney new school in the inner -city and within a year it will be trashed. i'm talking about graffiti and garbage. it begin in the early elementary years. you have a young black male with no male figure at home and abitter black female mother talking trash about those piece's of shit men that let her with all these mouths to feed. noe this young man go to school and the first time he fails at something (typiclly math) and the females are doing just fine at it he looks and feelslike a failure. so he starts to lash aout at everyone (and rightly so). next he's not going to school becaues well would you want to go somewhere everyday where you feel humilated? not me!

Black Diaspora hollered, "Beginning in kindergarten, children should be taught how to think, not what to think, how to choose from a plethora of choices, not what to choose, how to problem-solve, not to have their problems solved for them."

YES! Thank you! That is so true! Okay, so from Wendy Whitebread, our schools are like that! I live in really good school district on purpose because I want that kind of education for my kids.

The schools here really do teach kids to think. I volunteer at the school, plus my many hours doing homework with the kids. That's how I know.

So, I am hearing what you're saying that your schools don't measure up. That's something I think goes by district. If you live in a rich neighborhood, the real estate taxes are high, and the schools are good. It would make sense, then, that predominately black neighborhoods, get crappier schools.

I'm in Bellevue School District. That's our story here. Across the bridge 5 minutes from my house is the Seattle School District, which is being forced to close elementary schools and make huge cuts in their teaching budgets. I wouldn't live in Seattle for that reason. I can't afford to send my kids to a private school, so I found the best public school in my area and moved there.

The other reason our school does well is parental involvement. A lot of parents, dads too, but mostly moms, come down to the school and help out. If I can't be there, I can take home stuff to cut out for the lesson tomorrow, or staple papers together, stuff like that.

It makes a difference to the kids to see their parents putting in time at the school. Plus, you can spy on your kids on their own territory. LOL

I cut hair for a living, and I do it from home, so I am here a lot and can flex my schedule. But how many of you work full time away from home and can never do that? There's a problem that needs addressing.

And if they haven't been fuckin around. I bet she's so into the brotherhood of the Cambridge Police Dept that she'd just throw him a lil piece just to prove that him and George Bush loves Black people.

    What else is new?

I remeber when that racist psycho NY cop Justin Volpe rammed a police baton up the anus of Haitian immigrant Abner Louima in 1997.

Volpe's lawyer propped some black woman who claimed she dated Volpe in front of TV cameras and microphones to squeal "Justin ain't no racist. He actually took me out in public!"

  120. I have an office in a white neighborhood and have had to "break into it" 2 times. Both times the police were called. I knew ahead of time that as a black man, I was going to be accused of breaking and entering by the police. I do not dress like a doctor. Both times, I looked them dead in the eye, unafraid, and told them not to shoot me. I explained that I was the doctor whose name was on the door and, of course, was not believed. I did not get upset. I also asked if they had ever seen a black doctor before. They got very upset and demanded to see ID. I showed them a drivers license but they had problems with it because my listed address is a PO box. I remained calm and explained that I live in the woods, down dirt roads, where there are no numbers on anything. Eventually, after much radio chatter, they were satisfied and left. They were upset when they left. I am not afraid of police in general and always try to remain calm around them. It spooks them and lessens their power when you are not afraid of them.

I fault Dr. Gates for getting excited and escalating the situation. The whole situation could have been prevented with a calm response.

This is not leadership, this is Jerry Springer, a minstrel show. You think you all are field negroes when in fact you are in black face.

    Just pathetic.

The thing about the Gates' incident that seems to bother you the most is that Gates

    *has a white wife

    *acknowledges euro ancestry

    *lives a privileged life

Despite the 911 tape that clearly has the neighbor not referring to Gates' race, FN calls her a racist white bitch then launches into an irrational tirade to defend it.

What's been going on here rivals glen beck and company for insanity.

Bottom line is crabs in a barrel.

Her lawyer did a good job of preemptively blasting potential sympathy by showboating about how the lady was "the only one of the 3 people that didn't over-react." Really? REALLY?! I fear we'll be seeing a whole lot more of this idiot lawyer on the talking head idiot box circuit.

Then the caller spoke. Unlike the ambulance chaser (no offense, Field...) with the Joker grin that was thrilled to be on all 3 cable networks, this poor lady looked terrified of the 250,000+ cameras present. Her voice was wavering the whole time and she said she only decided to do a presser after the media started hounding her mother. Ick. I don't know, Field....I understand the continued skepticism, but the tapes exonerated her and damned the po-po in my eyes. I was expecting to hear a 911 caller hysterical about ¡NIGRAS! breaking into homes with luggage (as they're known to do!!!). Instead I heard a calm woman who sounded like she hesitated to hit the Send button, but decided to err on the side of caution.

Typical. To be black and not throw your support behind Gates is like being a jew who aids the Nazi's. Yup. I hear blacks using the Jews and NAzi's comparison a lot as an analogy to some small slight or perceived dis.
To some blacks Gates being arrested is as bad as Anne Frank being arrested. It shows a mindset that explains why some racism exists- blacks perceive small slights (like being asked for ones ID) to be like attrocities, and, like Gates, often carry on as though they were being transported to Auscwitz.

I will second that motion! I look at them and wonder WTF they are doing in my goddamned political party. This is a critical time. Obama was elected on a "change" platform, and health care reform is Change #1.

Other than the economy itself, health care is bigger than everything else combined. The public will be bitterly disappointed if health care reform fails.

All of this stuff has gotten me thinking about something I learned back in school when studying the history of the populist movement in America. It started in the South, and for a time it was racially mixed. That was until it was manipulated by segregagtionists and the populists became the Jim Crow movement too.

Last year, this country had a truly historic moment. A multiracial coalition of progressives united behind Barack Obama and achieved something that positively shocked the whole world. Now, are we going to let this dissolve into ancient recriminations over a sideshow in Cambridge, Massachusetts?

Come on, everyone. THINK. Or at the one TV program I saw about 15 years ago put it, "Keep your eyes on the prize." Man, if there was EVER something that ought to be uniting black people and white people it is health care. Keep your eyes on the prize! It's close, but there are no guarantees at all.

Gates, Crowley, and Obama are going to have their beers and shake hands. Everyone PLEASE take "Yes" for an answer and move on.

By the way, it is long overdue for me to say this: Fuck you, Drackman and the rest of the Drackmans who post here. You don't represent me, and you sure as fuck don't represent the 43 million white Americans who voted for Barack Obama. You are doing nothing for anyone, anywhere.

There are lots of people who would LOVE IT if progressive black and white people slashed each other to pieces over this one. If that happens, the only place we will be entitled to file our complaints is in front of the nearest mirror.

    Please give it some thought.

  138. Speaking of health care as change #1, let me give a personal example of how thoroughly I believe this. Some gay people have made a bunch of noise because Obama has not yet picked up the torch on repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." I think that policy is just insane, and I could go on and on about why.

But I, for one, have been willing to put it on the back burner for the time being out of a recognition that there are bigger fires burning. The economy and health care are much more important, and they must come first.

Frankly, repeal of DADT has a far broader impact in the real world that this Henry Louis Gates sideshow, which while symbolic is still something that involved one guy in somewhat ambiguous circumstances.

I'm willing to be patient (for a while) on my issue, because for the time being there is a much bigger goal that, if not met, will doom this progressive presidency. I'm keeping my eyes on the prize. How about you?

But I thought Tina Brown's article was hot garbage because of its asinine suggestion that Bill Clinton, BILL "1993" CLINTON, can "save" health care reform. Uh-huh. The sad fact is, this WAS a distraction for Obama! His job right now is to make sure that poor people – of all colors – aren’t left ass-out by our shitty, shitty…..,

    *deep breath*

SHITTY health care system anymore. The moment Obama fielded that question, all of his promotion of HCR in that press conference went RIGHT down the toilet. The “controversy” was the first thing outta Matt Lauer’s mouth after “Good morning and welcome to Today”. Drudge whipped out the Headline of Doom™. Fox did Fox and the wolves came out.

What will be remembered 100 years from now, the Gates arrest or the overhaul of America's health care system?

One of the reasons I like Obama is because he's a man with his strategic priorities straight, a man who understands that chessmasters run the world and define history while dumb niggas are dickin around with checkers and tiddlywinks. That night, he disappointed me by surrendering to his desire for emotional satisfaction. Staying quiet would have pained him and pissed off blacks, but fuck that! I'm uninsured dammit. I don't consider medical attention unless I suspect I'm dying. I'd rather have a racist white President that passes HCR w/ a strong public option than a "righteous" black President who gets nothing done because he'd rather sound off on every race controversy that the media pitches his way.

I'm not sure about the "other" conservative negroes like myself but this particular Negress tries to side with righteousness. See UTS because I am secure in my personhood I don't concern myself with other's (white or black) perception of me. I don't make presumptions about whether someone is or isn't racist, that's their problem -- not mine. Life is too short for me to obsess over someone's character flaws. It's quite liberating....you should try it. What does consume me however is the sadness I feel because our children (that's black children in case you are wondering) are not meeting their fullest potential. Hopelessness breeds hopelessness unfortunately, which is why I think it's important to stop thinking of ourselves (black selves, that is)as the underdogs of this society. Decartes brilliantly put it this way..."I Think Therefore I am...translation: I think that the majority race will treat me badly just because I'm black - so I will live as an "oppressed" individual. Not a good look, UTS. We (black folks) need to shift the paradigm if not for ourselves for our children.

It's much easier for people to talk about the Gates sideshow than to talk about health care reform.

The Gates sideshow doesn't require anyone to do much thinking. They can haul out all the old arguments, all the old cliches, all the well-practiced lines.

There's really not a lot at stake, either, which makes it perfect to argue about. I mean, what did Gates do afterwards? He toddled off to Martha's Vineyard to soothe his shattered ego. Oh, the horror.

Health care, on the other hand, is a big, complicated mess. It's one-sixth of the economy, and it is both monumentally fucked up and maybe the last big money trough left for every corporate pig in America.

This couldn't have happened if he wasn't black? Hmmm, I wonder why you guys were unaware of that WHITE 72, yes SEVENTY TWO, year old woman who was tased in Texas a few weeks ago. She refused to sign her ticket, then the cop threatened to arrest her, when she saw he was serious she then agreed to sign the ticket. Too late, he placed her under arrest and when she argued this too long he tased her. The fact that there was no outrage over this shows Gates is getting the 5 star treatment cause he is 1) black 2) wealthy 3) famous
    4) well educated. The charges were only dropped because he has connections.
I have been the subject to more unfair treatment by the cops that Gates.. yet does the mayor, governor and president chime in with support? I won't get called a "self-hating negro" for talking about the ghetto vicious cycle because I don't devote the rest of my time defending a political movement that is still - STILL! - infected with racists. Oh they aren't nearly as numerous as they once were but make no mistake that they have "survived" the Civil Rights Movement. If you don't believe me, find out for yourself. Go to Breitbart.com, click on any news story dealing with Michelle Obama, Hip-Hop, or a black behaving badly, and see what pops up in the comments. Go to Free Republic, click on threads dealing with race and see what you find. Hell, go to a GOP rally and just look around for the Birthers and the Confederate flags and ask yourself what those fools really mean when they scream "I want my country back!".

That's why the vast majority of blacks can't stand black conservatives. We take a look at your bedfellows and wonder what the hell your real motives are. When Jesse Lee Paterson calls 95% of blacks racist and Alan Keyes raves about Obama being a Kenyan born dictator, we wonder why the hell those 2 are some of America's most prominent black conservatives.

Its like how the Pro-Israel majority of Jews look at the minority of Jews that don't support Israel, bash "Zionism", and rub elbows with alleged anti-semites. They don't trust them any farther than they can throw them.

  170. Swiff~You write"The hardline conservatives love to push this insulting notion that "the liberal blacks" (LOL) don't believe in parenting or something. I call horseshit."

I think you misunderstand the message. NO ONE is Stupid enough to believe that any responsible person whether they are conservative or liberal does not believe in parenting their children. The difference is that Conservatives try to encourage those who are NOT properly parenting to do so and take responsibility for raising their children. Whereas, Liberals ignore the role that the irresponsible parent plays and make excuses for the lack of achievement the majority of urban youth.

Regarding Alan Keyes and Jesse Lee Peterson, one needs only to read the remarks on black blogs to draw the conclusion that 95% (although I don't believe that's an accurate number)are racist. Many of us are racist. But white conservatives have no monopoly on racism. I believe it's just as prevalent in the democrat party. The way the that democrat party panders to the black community as the arbiters of racial justice and the way we eat it up is disgusting. They use us to get elected, and expect us to be "good negroes" and remain on their ideological plantation. Did you not see how Barbara Boxer EXPECTED Harry Alford to get on board with that damnable cap and trade initiative because the NAACP and 100 Black men of Atlanta had given it the thumbs up. 180. Anon @ 3:14 - Your story about the elderly white woman getting tased for being a little uncooperative with the police is interesting, but don't expect it to even be acknowledged on this blog. It's much easier to ignore it, because to admit that maybe this whole Gates thing wasn't about racism, but rather rash action by two people, throws a big wrench into the mental and emotional mechinations of what this blog publishes both in FN's writing and in the comments section. Someone else mentioned a story about a trailor trash dude getting arrested for being in his own home, and it was similarly ignored. Many of the posters here like to lambast whites for taking a very narrow view of race relations, rightly claiming that if they (the whites) would look at the whole picture they might realize their world view is flawed. Pot, meet kettle. I do not, and never will, understand how someone can argue so vociferously against something, all the while being guilty of it themselves.

Swiff regarding your rant: I liked it. A lot. And I'm pretty sure you and I would disagree about HCR, but I admire that you're more worried about something that actually deeply impacts the poor (oppressed?) in this country.

CBW: I wonder how tiring it must be to be dismissed out of hand as a traitor, Uncle Tom, house negro, etc. for believing differently than most other black folks...? As far as I know, no one here even knows what you do, how you live your life, whether or not you have actually turned against the black community, but you're treated as though you have. Interesting, and sad. I thought conservatives were supposed to be the close minded ones...

Can someone tell me what is the beef that people have with Barbara Boxer and Nancy Pelosi? I see them maligned a lot by self identified conservatives but I never see an explanation as to why (other than a general disdain for "liberals"). Was there specific legislation that got people riled up? In the case of Boxer's encounter with Alford, I fail to see how she was in any way being racist against him or expecting him to get on board with cap and trade. Alford made a complete fool of himself by screaming racism when all she did was point out that he didn't speak for the entire black community on that issue when he tried to misrepresent himself as speaking on behalf of said community. It was the republicans who chose to put a black person out there to claim that black people are against cap and trade and when they got called on it he cries "you're being racial!"

  189. UTS: To begin, I wasn't referencing you specifically. I haven't gone back and re-read the back-and-forth between you two, but I don't remember you calling anything like an Uncle Tom. Maybe you did, and if you did you're in the wrong.

Someone made a Nazi analogy above -might have been you; I'm not inclined to re-read 170 comments to find out. Either way it was a terrible analogy. Certainly it would be a traitorous action for a Jew to work with the Nazis back then. But to compare someone who disagrees with a social/political agenda that HAS NOT WORKED for black folks in this country to a Nazi just doesn't work.

I respect that you don't agree with CBW regarding what is good (policy-wise) for black folks. But, I don't respect that many folks on this site (and across this country) consider those of her ilk a so-called house negro because she thinks there's a better way.

I imagine she'd be the first to tell you that the conservatives in this country aren't always doing what's best for black people. But in this two-party system, it isn't always possible to find a party/candidate that perfectly aligned with everything you believe. From a 30 second perusal of her blog, it looks like she isn't wild about the idea of abortion. I don't know her personal beliefs, but many in the anti-abortion crowd consider it the most morally repugnant "sin" of this country. Now, whether you agree with that assesment or not, I think you can agree that maybe, just maybe, for some folks anyway, there are issues that rival, if not supercede the issue of their "blackness." Or maybe not... Maybe that isn't something you can fathom. We all have our blind-spots. But calling slapping someone with a hurtfull label, just because they don't restrict themselves soley to the same issues as you, might not be "dismissing them out of hand", but it sure is a shallow way of looking at the world, and ultimately, potentially very destructive the the very community you're allegedly working to improve.

I tend to agree that the Democrats take the Black vote for granted. That's been going on for a very long time.

But short of voting for a Republican Party which has clearly lost its collective mind of late, what are we to do?

Should we stay home and not vote?

The Democrats and Republicans have been playing good cop/ bad cop with African Americans for a long time. Many people realize that but what's the solution?

And so that I'm clear; I'm not looking for an argument I'm curious about what strategy you think would be best for African Americans in general.

  196. Response I

@DMC: "But, I don't respect that many folks on this site (and across this country) consider those of her ilk a so-called house negro because she thinks there's a better way."

If you wish to rescue cBw, so be it, but let me support the other side of the equation.

First, it was cBw's choice to come here. She came and made certain statements she knew would engender certain responses. The term, "House Negro," is well defined (see sidebar) as is the term liberal and conservative.

For your information, we don't consider her a House Negro for her thinking there's a "better way." We use that label because of her anachronistic positions, her williningness to close her eyes to certain realities in her midst, and to cast us inaccurately.

    For example:

"NO ONE is Stupid enough to believe that any responsible person whether they are conservative or liberal does not believe in parenting their children. The difference is that Conservatives try to encourage those who are NOT properly parenting to do so and take responsibility for raising their children. Whereas, Liberals ignore the role that the irresponsible parent plays and make excuses for the lack of achievement the majority of urban youth." cBw

If you've visited this site over a period of time, cBw's claim that black liberals "ignore the role that irresponsible parent plays and make excuses for the lack of achievement the majority of urban youth," is outrageous to the point of being social blasphemy, and is patently untrue.

But it's the conservative line that we hear often from other black conservatives that frequent this blog. Frankly, the charge is not only outrageous, it's tiresome.

Ergo: [BLACK LIBERALS IGNORE BLACK IRRESPONSIBILITY, BLACK CONSERVATIVES DO NOT]

"Regarding Alan Keyes and Jesse Lee Peterson, one needs only to read the remarks on black blogs to draw the conclusion that 95% (although I don't believe that's an accurate number)are racist. Many of us are racist. But white conservatives have no monopoly on racism." cBw

Now, it's blacks that are "racist," and liberal blacks the worse of the lot. I'm not a "racist," using the strictest meaning of the world, "a belief in racial superiority," but she accuses us of being so, at least 95% of us. She waffles on the number, but we understand her meaning: the majority of blacks that post here are racist.

Ergo: [BLACKS ARE RACIST: A CONSERVATIVE POSTION BECOMING ALL TO GENERAL FOR MY COMFORT]

    ReplyDelete
  197. Response II

Now, I've never called cBw a racist, wouldn't call her a racist, because it's my firm belief that it would take an exorcism rotation of the head to claim that blacks are racist. Yet, she had no problem with blanketing most of the commenters here with that label. She says that "many of us are racist." Yet, she didn't say she was racist, or who the "many" is. Is it black folks, white folks? Is it white and black folks?

"[J]ust because someone "works" for W doesn't make them conservative....look at your boy Colin Powell. I'm thinking that Claude was just a liberal making rather stealing paper."

Not sure if I follow her statement fully, but I'm sure of one thing, she doesn't like "Colin Powell." He's not a "boy," he's an avowed conservative, but because he supported Obama, he's now at outcast. Many noted conservative pundits have taken that position as well, think Rush Limbaugh.

Ergo: [NO TOLERANCE FOR BLACK CONSERVATIVES THAT BREAK RANKS]

"I don't make presumptions about whether someone is or isn't racist, that's their problem -- not mine. Life is too short for me to obsess over someone's character flaws. It's quite liberating....you should try it. What does consume me however is the sadness I feel because our children (that's black children in case you are wondering) are not meeting their fullest potential."

She says that she doesn't presume "racism," but she's called 95% of the commenters here racist. Now, racism has been reduced to "character flaws" (How convenient, and magnanimous to racists) and is not the culprit in the case of black children not "meeting their fullest potential," it's us black folks that are holding them back by ignoring black irresponsibility.

    Ergo: [IGNORE RACISM--IT'S "LIBERATING"]

"The house negro, if the master said "we got a
good house here" the house negro say "yeah, we got a good house here".
Whenever the master would said we, he'd say we. That's how you can
    tell a house negro."

Now into what category do you think I should place cBw?
