I survived the trick or treaters. That's reason enough to treat myself to something. -I am watching the Phillies and they are up 3-2 on the Hank-ees in the top of the 5th. So maybe, if they win, I will have my treat for the night.
Anywhooo, I saw an article that I wanted to share. Seems that some groups are up in arms over a Halloween costume which has been selling at Target and other stores. [*See pic]
"...Civil rights and anti-discrimination activists are up in arms over the "Illegal Alien Adult Costume," manufactured by Forum Novelties.
The costume includes an outer space alien mask, an orange jumpsuit with the words "Illegal Alien" across the chest and a fake green card.
The costume includes an outer space alien mask, an orange jumpsuit with the words "Illegal Alien" across the chest and a fake green card.
After receiving complaints about the costume, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles wrote a letter to retailers asking them to stop selling the item. Executive director Angelica Salas called it "distasteful, mean-spirited, and ignorant of social stigmas and current debate on immigration reform," according to The Associated Press.
Some retailers, such as Target, have stopped selling the costume. " [Story]
Now, I must admit, (and I am sure you all will agree) that these kinds of stories tend to always take on a tendentious tone with me. When I suspect racism, xenophobia, or injustice in anyway, I tend to lose my objective ability to reason. Which is why I am going to leave this one to you all to tell me where this little costume issue comes down. I know Halloween costumes are supposed to be somewhat risque, but can they go too far in offending a particular group of people?
Inquiring minds -not to mention people of good conscience- want to know.
Go Phillies.
LOL! See I had to come and make my first comment on a thread who's dissing my Hank..I mean Yankee
ReplyDeleteYankess are now up 6-4. Keep your hopes up, FN.
Does this mean I am not allowed to tell "There was an Irishman, Englishman and and American..." jokes anymore?
ReplyDeleteHopefully, we will get to see Dick Cheney in this jumpsuit soon for perjury.
ReplyDeletewww.bartcop.com/cheney-arrest.jpg
"the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles wrote a letter to retailers asking them to stop selling the item. '
ReplyDeleteAnd of course it's the Immigrant Rights of "Los Angeles" who's raising this issue.
No. Sorry. I don't see any xenophobia connotation in this. And I don't see how it's even associated to a particular race of immigrants for that matter. IF so, that Alien costume could be jabbing at an Arminian or even an Asian immigrant if you want to look at it that way. But of course the Immigrant Rights of "Los Angeles" are the ones who want to pick at it.
(And people have the NERVE to get upset with black people for pointing out more blatantly obvious anti-black racism as compared to this stupid costume which has NOTHING to do with MEXICAN immigrants).
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAlright, I take back what I said about it not having a xenophobic connotation. But I meant everything else that I said.
ReplyDeleteDamn it Spirit55,you jinksed my "Fightens"it's 8-4 now.:(
ReplyDeleteAnon.what's up with the bartcop story?I am on my crackberry in front of the TV and I can't get to it.
ReplyDeleteLa Incognita no love for your brown brothers and sisters?
I need a Hispanic to post and tell if they are offended.
Or,for that matter,a West Indian or Canadian who is a first generation A-merry-can who came here on a student visa but never left.:)
Oh, it's the picture of Cheney in the orange jumpsuit.
ReplyDeletehttp://impeachforpeace.org/impeach_bush_blog/?p=4661
I have mixed feelings. While I don't "condone" it, & dislike that the costume was mass-produced, it does have a non PC humor undercut by the alien mask. Sometimes it's worth annoying the PC police. Nuke the gay whales.
ReplyDeleteEvery Latina friend I've talked to found it offensive.
ReplyDeleteIt may not specifically be referring to Mexican immigrants, but a lot of effort has gone into building the brand "illegal" = Mexican, (which annoys Central and South American immigrants no end).
Regarding the Phillies: Damn and blast. And do they always have "God Bless America" instead of "Take Me Out To The Ball Game"? Not nearly as much fun.
the one thing prevalent with the history of the human race is bigotry
ReplyDeleteit is sad to me those are halloween costumes, yet there are some who like them
diversity makes things interesting
This suit was made to insult HISPANIC'S, but, who care's? not AFRICAN AMERICAN! most BLACK'S could care less about the way the HISPANIC COMMUNITY is treated by the RACIST!
ReplyDeleteWhen do we hear about another RACE of people being called "Illegal Alien's" who are we fooling? I am not FOOLED?
It is a shame Minority's will NOT STAND together, for if we did, the RACIST would STEP BACK!!! I remember, when they Blamed Black folk's for EVERYTHING? they said "Black Women were having too many Baby's" oh I forgot, they still say that!
So now, they say BLACK'S and HISPANIC'S are making this country, look like a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY! and they do not include any other minority's when this is being said!
Black's and Hispanic's are the TWO group's of people, that are being Disrespected in America! now, what's wrong with this picture?
iseeisee
FN if you even have to ask, then I begin to question your conviction to social justice or indeed what your definition might
ReplyDeleteIt's offensive, period to this white, hetero, Canadian, male.
Furthermore,
I need a Hispanic to post and tell if they are offended.
Or,for that matter,a West Indian or Canadian who is a first generation A-merry-can who came here on a student visa but never left.:)
Don't you get tired of speaking for all of your people when there is a as much diversity in perception among blacks as there probably is among all races.
You are smarter than that. I think.
But then again, here of late some of your posts have been quite disturbing and disappointing. But not that you care (nor should you) about my opinion.
Field, you are a disappointment. You know damn well that costume with "Illegal Alien" written across it is offensive. But you really don't care, do you?
ReplyDeleteBut let someone put a monkey next to Obama and you will go crazy and scream racism. You will even accuse the Whites who did it as insensitive, and that they were only doing it to hurt Blacks.
Field, you come off as a race chaser only for Blacks and could care less about other POCs. There is a chasm between your definition of a "Field Negro" and your attitude toward those outside of your race, and your post proves it.
You only care about your own little racial niche. That makes you a bit of a phony. You should award yourself as House Negro in your sidebar.
La Incognita is a witch that rides her broom 24/7. She is an insensitve cold-blooded animal completely controlled by her reptilian brain. Halloween is everyday for her.
I'll never understand how anyone could think that this costume is anything but racist. It may seem inoffensive to some people yet may be offensive to others of the same race. This is not complicated! And I'm sure there were other costumes that would have been acceptable, even to the brain-dead who can't seem to understand that we live in a world full of people who all feel differently about any given issue. Why not try do do this without offending each other?
ReplyDeleteIf the alien was wearing a sumbrero you could reasonably say the costume is bigoted. There is nothing that suggest race in this costume. Illegals come in all colors.
ReplyDeleteWhat IS bigoted is to accept the notion that all illegals are hispanics. Not to mention, "hispanic" is not a race. There are white, brown, black hispanics.
The costume is clearly poking fun at the term "Illegal Alien", which is a silly term all together.
Martians do have a good reason to be offended, though!
This costume doesn't specifically reference Hispanic illegal aliens.
ReplyDeleteAs far as being "offensive" to illegal aliens in general, I don't see it. It's a play on words.
One interesting thing I've noticed is many of the people who are first to speak against racism are often some of the first to discriminate against gays.
ReplyDeleteIf you vote against gay marriage or believe homosexuality is a sin, than please spare the rest of us your lecture on racial prejudice.
Ok let's stop playing mind games folks, with the issue of immigration on the news cycle 24/7(see Lou Dobbs) how could this be nothing else but a stabb at my brown brothers and sister's from south of the border?
ReplyDeleteShady Grady: So is "Cotton Picker" and a plethora of other statements regarding watermelon and chicken you idiot...it's wrong!
ReplyDeleteThis costume is stupid, offensive, and the product of lazy thinking. But then, the real Halloween is about letting our demons and fears run loose for a night. It ain't kid stuff.
ReplyDeleteYou only care about your own little racial niche. That makes you a bit of a phony. You should award yourself as House Negro in your sidebar.
ReplyDeleteTrue Dat! I was thinking the same thing.
"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." MLK
ReplyDeleteFor those who want to play the hierarchy of oppression game... I only ask you... how's that workin for you? Divide and conquer has been the game plan for centuries.
And, for those of you that want to play it... fine, but get the fuck out of the way of the rest of us that want to work for justice for ALL!
That's nice, Jody.
ReplyDeleteI just hope your not one of those women that talks about justice and racism, and then goes and dates or marries white men.
We have too many like that already, and they really shouldn't speak on these issues.
Secret English court seizes billions in assets from the mentally impaired
ReplyDeletehttp://joshfulton.blogspot.com/2009/10/secret-english-court-seizes-assets-of.html
anon 10:07..... the funny thing about the web is you can be really surprised by the assumptions you are making....
ReplyDeleteDon't worry.... I won't be dating or marrying any white men... well, ANY men... although let me be clear, I love men, I just don't want to have romantic relationships with them.
And second, I am not sure about the "too many like that already" but, I think you proved my point by making assumptions about the "other."
Hmmm, I, of all people, being acccused of being insensitive to other groups. You anons must not have been reading this blog for very long.
ReplyDeleteGo back and google some of my posts on black, brown, poor people and Gays in this country, and then get back with me.
I guess when it comes to facts some people just prefer blinders.
But hey, if it makes you feel good, I am glad I contribute to your mental well being.
*shaking head*
"Don't you get tired of speaking for all of your people when there is a as much diversity in perception among blacks as there probably is among all races."
Nope! But as a "white white, hetero, Canadian, male" I wouldn't expect you to understand that.
I just hope your not one of those women that talks about justice and racism, and then goes and dates or marries white men.
ReplyDeleteThat would actually be Laincognita
I just hope your not one of those women that talks about justice and racism, and then goes and dates or marries white men.
ReplyDeleteYou mean people like Van Jones and big Skip Gates? Believe me, black men already have a lock on talking about racial injustice and then marrying white or light bright.
I didn't find it offensive until I saw the green card. Shoot only aliens are illegal. People are not aliens...
ReplyDeleteyes, it's totally offensive.
ReplyDeletei wonder about people who would make this AND people who would buy it...and literally clothe their children in such hate, ignorance and injustice that this clearly demonstrates.
illegal aliens = undocumented workers, PERIOD.
when my grandparents came over from italy they were illegal immigrants...have we learned nothing in 100 years? we are regressing, folks.
it's sad. we're willing to let them die, deny them care..FN, you have said yourself..."we are all one." but just not when it comes to "illegal" immigrants?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteit's sad. we're willing to let them die, deny them care..FN, you have said yourself..."we are all one." but just not when it comes to "illegal" immigrants?
ReplyDeleteI always find it interesting that places like Mexico are completely anti-immigrant; Mexico annually deports more illegal aliens than the United States and illegal immigration is a felony!. Look at some of the other things they do.
Foreigners are admitted into Mexico "according to their possibilities of contributing to national progress." (Article 32)
Immigration officials must "ensure" that "immigrants will be useful elements for the country and that they have the necessary funds for their sustenance" and for their dependents. (Article 34)
Foreigners may be barred from the country if their presence upsets "the equilibrium of the national demographics," when foreigners are deemed detrimental to "economic or national interests," when they do not behave like good citizens in their own country, when they have broken Mexican laws, and when "they are not found to be physically or mentally healthy." (Article 37)
The Secretary of Governance may "suspend or prohibit the admission of foreigners when he determines it to be in the national interest." (Article 38)
Yet, these is the same government that protests against our immigration policies! What a joke! Wake up!
Jody, how is opposing this playing into the hierarchy of oppression? You and I have been here before haven't we? I stand firm on this.
ReplyDelete(Tell me, do you know if Mexican immigrants or the "immigrant Rights of Los Angeles" give a hot sweat about black Haitians, black Africans or other black immigrants who happen to "find" themselves in Los Angeles or AMERICA in general?)
Btw, let me know when you're fluent in Spanish, morphed into brown skin and eavesdrop on the candid conversations that Mexicans/Latin South Americans as a collective group have about black people. After you do this, come back and tell me why should I as a BLACK female expend my energy over a costume and a Moniker that should apply to everyone including white illegal Germans. A moniker which doesn't apply to just Mexicans/South Americans who don't even give a fuck about anyone but themselves, and who are just as racist towards black people?
If so, I might as well get up in arms over a Witch costume because it's offensive to me as a female. It could fall under more ammunition for cowards in this mysogonistic society to throw at me because of the gender association. (See Anony 4:06 am)
And who do hell is playing the oppression pipe more than Mexicans/Latin South Americans? Boat loads of illegal Haitians get sent back to the sharks on a daily basis, where is the Mexican uproar for their black brothers and Sisters? Oh wait, where is the black American uproar for their "bros and sis"?
Jody, yes wrong is wrong, and I see where you're standing from. While I'm on that same platform, society has inherently placed me at a different angle in which I am also able to see.
Furthermore, some of you black people (all over) need to stop throwing your "we and us" garden tools over in other peoples yards when YOU have so much to do in YOUR own backyards. Stop humping and fighting over petty shit for other "immigrants" in America. Get a clue! Call me a bitch all day, but you can't go around fixing other people's roofs when you're ass don't have a damn roof to sleep under at night.
Divide and conquer? it was always there - with or without whites.
Also, I agree with Anony 6:05 am and Shady Grady, they made some points.
And for anony 4:06 am, You would know about "animals and witches" because your mother was all of those things before I was even born.
oh, i get it.
ReplyDeletewe should only care about people who care about us (tho how we would know that and why it's ok to lump everyone together remains a mystery).
i figured folks were more enlightened than this.
my mistake.
Sorry for the double post and the typos.
ReplyDeleteYou know, America is so bad... yet some people are dying to get it, but they don't seem to be dying to get out.
we should only care about people who care about us (tho how we would know that and why it's ok to lump everyone together remains a mystery).
ReplyDeleteIt's called reciprocity; if you care about people who don't care about you, then don't be surprised when you get used.
Maria, it doesn't matter how much of an italian immigrant your grandparents were. That card was expired over a hundred years ago. It's easy and safe to look at things from your now privileged view.
ReplyDelete"we should only care about people who care about us (tho how we would know that and why it's ok to lump everyone together remains a mystery). "
Don't chirp that here sweety. Go tell that to the "white supremacist" American government that your "Italian" heritage have now successfully assimilated into visually. The same government who are selective with the skin tone "Embargo" or "tolerance" treatment they give to certain immigrants who they think may "care" to be of use to America, or less of a "darkening" threat to American generations.
Yup, we in America are all a bunch of caring mother fuckers when it suits us best, aren't we?
Field,
ReplyDeleteDo you really think I believe all that crap I wrote? I guess people reading these blogs are really serious, what ever happened to satire? Are we [including me] all getting that stupid that everything in the world has to be politically correct? We are slowly walking into a Marxist state. Who gets to decide what books we burn? I'm not selling out for some crap shoot in Washington. Just remember something I'll be there with you behind the razor wire! So go ahead and put the hook on me again, it's your blog:)
rainywalker
Call me naive, I took it to mean that the alien was from outerspace. However, I am not Hispanic so its their call if they are offended or not.
ReplyDeleteI meant to say specifically...
ReplyDelete"immigrants who they think may "care" to be of SUBSERVIENT use to America, or less of a "darkening" op threat to the future American generations."
(Today is Sunday and this blog has me swearing and typing like a mad woman.)
So I have an old west Bar maid costume...So shoud whores and prostitutes and maybe even modern day female bar tenders be picketting outside my house right now? I have never in my life met a mexican that had a green face...Hell all Americans who can trace their roots outside of American soil should be offended...find a better cause for your time people, b/c if you keep up with things this childish, when you actually have something to say no one is going to take you seriously.
ReplyDeleteBesides that costume came with an actual green card...I'm so not going to finish that thought...lqtm no no no I'm sorry.
Anon.what's up with the bartcop story?I am on my crackberry in front of the TV and I can't get to it.
ReplyDeletewhich is why your wife is riding my sausage during work hours bro
I'm "privileged?" give me a break. you have no idea who i am or if that label is appropriate.
ReplyDeletemy life is neither easy nor safe and in fact i spend all the time i can advocating for those who can't.
you've represented your position quite well here, while misrepresenting mine.
Field,
ReplyDeleteI think you are wrong in the post above where you say you don't tire speaking for all black folks.
1) One black person does not represent all black people
2) It gets very tiring educating folks all the time.
You shouldn't speak for all black folks man we are all different.
Tikki,
ReplyDeleteNot only does field speak for all black people. Dude is Jamaican and speaks for all black Americans, too. lol
Maria, it seems you're interpreting from an individualistic point of view, but not the collective. If you really want to advocate for those who can't, you need to recognize this and understand how it works.
ReplyDeleteif i really "want" to advocate?
ReplyDeletei do. and i do it well.
i'm not in need of recognizing anything. but thanks, tho.
Maria, you have white privilege. And as an Italian, whether you want to consider yourself white or not is irrelevant because people see you as white.
ReplyDeleteJust accept your privileges your skin gives you. And that no matter how much you work to assuage your white guilt, your still white.
If you really want to show your a bleeding heart, guilty, good liberal white woman then marry a black man from the hood and give him any money you make and let him have possession of you. Talk the Talk then WALK THE WALK!!
folks without our white advocates we would not be where we are today. PERIOD.
ReplyDeleteJust because a white person is an advocate of social justice, they are not bleeding hearts plagued with guilt. That's quite a ghetto notion there anon. Skin color does award privileges and there is nothing anyone can do about that. The good Lord made us all different shades. So get over it.
I for one appreciate the work our white advocates do. I am not gay/lesbian but I advocate for their rights. Period. I don't have to be in a particular group to advocate for human rights. Anon, you statement makes no sense and your hatred is coming out. Maria don't listen to that hot mess. When we all work together for all people peace will one day reign.
Don ( who agrees with Field, we are all ONE)
Hmmm, I, of all people, being acccused of being insensitive to other groups. You anons must not have been reading this blog for very long.
ReplyDeleteI am not the only one who has pegged you on this one man. There just may be something to it. And you are a Jamaican Mother Fucker...Nigger, PLEASE.
I thought the illegal alien costume was funny. Someone needs to come up with a Dick Cheney-as-Darth Vader costume, but maybe that would be too scary.
ReplyDeleteHe is baaaaack.:) Stalker Hanes is that you again? Tell you what, send me your address and I will send you an autographed jock strap from yours truly.
ReplyDeleteRainy Walker, I agree, but it takes a thinking person to tell the difference.
"Not only does field speak for all black people. Dude is Jamaican and speaks for all black Americans, too. lol"
Well yeah, duh! Last time I checked most Jamaicans were black.
I don't seperate folks in the black Diaspora by country or place of birth, so get a clue.
"Shoot only aliens are illegal. People are not aliens..."
Rory, I like that statement.
So I/m guessin none y'alls kids went as "Little Black Sambo"???
ReplyDeleteAnd eff the politics, Field, you're as phony as Ted Kennedy doin a MAAD PSA... how many Phillies games did you watch this year???
Zee-Ro
But I bet you can name all the Sixers illegitimate kids...
Frank
I guess that Jock Strap would be hot. Hey we can tag team the Mrs...see if she can take both sausages at once, or you get front I get back. Spit fuck that dirt road....yah...bro. The more the merrier I guess. But she may be beggin' me to stay and you to go man...just saying...
ReplyDelete
When I suspect racism, xenophobia, or injustice in anyway, I tend to lose my objective ability to reason
ReplyDeleteFilled Negro:
SINCE WHEN have you become so sensitive to any public display of sarcasm?
You can go purchase some maxipads at the store if you need them!!!!
It is quite ironic that you are defensive of the most ignorant and hate-filled leftist attacks that can be found on Bill Mahr and various blog sites YET "You See Racism Under Every ROCK" when it comes to this.
One day you are going to STOP turning issues over to PEOPLE'S BIGOTRY and instead remain CONSISTENT.
I have been watching Roland Martin's show on TV One. The Kneegrow politicians argue that "THEY don't want Hispanics here any more than they want US here".
In the wake of displacement of jobs for Black folks who compete at this same skill level as the immigrants it is always handy to have your WILD CARD to blame everything upon: RACISM
Jamacian? Fuck go back to your islands man...we don't need your shit here. Real niggas only man. Fucking affirmative action freak.
ReplyDeleteOne day you are going to STOP turning issues over to PEOPLE'S BIGOTRY and instead remain CONSISTENT.
ReplyDeleteNever gonna happen. Which is why he's an affirmative action Jamaican, he's not smart enough to be consistent on here. Someone used the term TROLL BLOGGER. I think that's exactly what he is.
And yet, Anon 3:33PM, you and the [un]constructive one are here.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the hits. ;)
Now back to my Birds. Oh, and Frank, I love all my Philly teams. Yes, even the Flyboyz. :)
Day-um is fn on the downlow?
ReplyDeleteYou know it used to be a time when I would come here and leave enlightened. I miss a lot of the people who no longer post here who even when they disagreed didn't take it personally and had something of intellectual value to bring to the table. There are still a few of those intellectuals left but somehow they are being drowned out by all of the garbage that is being poured into the room. Now, when I leave here after scrolling through some of the sick puppies posting as anonymous, I leave with a headache, feeling violated mentally with garbage, and part of the reason why I've made my visit and comments less frequent. No one can grow mentally on garbage, instead they grow stagnant.
ReplyDeleteYou can tell that they were raised in a low class setting with no kind of home training whatsoever and education wasn't exactly their strongest point, because they have nothing intellectual or worth while to say. When a person has nothing to offer but vile, degrading, sexually offensive remarks that are disgusting in nature about someone's wife, it shows that they are more than likely impotent themselves or that they're not getting any themselves so they fantasize. A man who is constantly bragging about sex more than likely is not about dung in the bed themselves and packing a pencil. Real men that have anything going for them sexually don't have to brag about their sexual skills and for them to be spending as much time as they are on here saying these disgusting and sexually offensive things speaks out loud and tells us that their own sexual life is not worth two dead flies.
As for what Jody, LaIncognita, and Maria said regarding immigrants, I can relate to what each of them said because they all made some very valid and good points. The thing is coming together and trying to resolve those issues amongst us so that they can unite and form a stronger union because division causes desolation and really does not get anything done. It only makes our problems worse. Finding the positives in each group of people is not really as hard as it seems. We make it hard with selfishness and negative thinking.
Amen Granny. Amen. I have been feeling the same way.
ReplyDeleteraised in a low class setting with no kind of home training whatsoever and education wasn't exactly their strongest point, because they have nothing intellectual or worth while to say.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen the stats on black kids in schools? Drop outs? Socio economic status? Most of the kids in my hood have no "training" cause they are poor black and momma's looking for crack. Your statement, although you are too dumb to realize it is racist.
AB is right Granny, you are dumb and this site sucks.
It's a sad day when the FN admits "hit" are his motivator. You are not consistent, you are not intelligent and your site is like a train wreck or a reality tv show...it's a circus so people come.
ReplyDeleteGranny Standing for Truth, you are a big clown like the rest. Get over your sanctimonious self. Field lost control long ago cause he's a weak assed leader. I am BLACK, SMART, EDUCATED, CONSISTENT, TRULY LOVE ALL RACES, AND DON'T SLAM ON OR HATE ON OTHERS.
I come here to watch the chaos each day. I told my friends come come and watch the chaos. The hits may be up, but what does that do for the black community Field? Nothing. You do nothing but provide a wise cracking space.
Can you please leave this board. I think FN is a fake too, but the slams are not nice. Who cares what you are doing with his wife. I don't. He probably doesn't care either. This is 2009, people have "understandings". You have had your fun, now shooh fly shooh. And be nice. Jesus died for you too you know.
ReplyDeleteJody,
ReplyDelete"And, for those of you that want to play it... fine, but get the fuck out of the way of the rest of us that want to work for justice for ALL!"
Bravo, Jody. I am in agreement. It's too bad people like that racist La Incognita don't get it. It's callous people like her who thrives on division among races and make matters worse.
I agree with Anon 4:19 and Jody
ReplyDeletedivision among races is detrimental. Especially to our own folks. Thank you!!
But I disagree with Field, he should know better.
Anonymous Sybil, as for ignorance and lacking intellect your statements speak for themselves and point right smack dab back at you. And you proved my point beyond a doubt because if I felt the way you did, I wouldn't even visit this site because it would be a waste of time. Being that you feel that your so above in intelligence.
ReplyDeleteAnd even if you did work with field's wife, which I doubt. What kind of friend are you that you would betray her confidence? That speaks a lot about your character as well. A sleazy snake in the grass! Smh!
BTW, blacks don't have a patent on ignorance and lack of home training. That falls across all color lines when people are poor. Its called poverty.
ReplyDeleteBTW, blacks don't have a patent on ignorance and lack of home training. That falls across all color lines when people are poor. Its called poverty.
ReplyDeleteThen why would you make fun of someone and call them ignorant with lack of training? You judged people. And that is wrong.
I am not the one fucking fields wife.
You folks just witnessed the many personalities of Sybil play out before you. I wonder how many personalities do they have. Let me go back and count. Smh!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 4:34:
ReplyDeleteWhat I said hit the bulleye on the target and it is so obvious. Nevertheless, I'm enjoying you exposing yourself and doing it on your own. How smart is that? LOL!
As a woman of color, some of the words flowing from POCs here.....its embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteGranny: Are you still here you prejudiced old fool?
ReplyDeleteMo: Get out much?
Granny Little MIss Nancy Drew:
ReplyDeleteWhat are you trying to expose? I don't get it. There is nothing here but a couple of folks who dislike some other folks and someone banging someone's wife.
Welcome back by the way. It's kinda boring without your rambling.
Okay, let's change the subject.
ReplyDeleteCan the media portray a group of people poorly IF the said group acts poorly?
Leave your comments. And no sex stuff or slandering.
If field won't man up I will.
Anonymous I would say that you crack me up but I can't because in all honesty I feel sorry for you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Granny, that means a lot. Glad you are back. I like how you are making up for lost time rambles.
ReplyDeleteIF Granny and Anon will stop bickering:
ReplyDeleteWhat group are you referring to that the media is portraying poorly?
Anonymous 5:06:
ReplyDeleteI'm sure people would rather hear my ramblings as you call it than to listen to your degrading, offensive, and disrespectful trashy talk. At least they can learn something from my ramblings.
Btw, Incognita might have a view that you disagree with, but she is a highly intelligent woman. Regardless, what you say to try to demean her, you can't take that away from her.
ReplyDeleteField, "Hmmm, I, of all people, being acccused of being insensitive to other groups. You anons must not have been reading this blog for very long."
ReplyDeleteField, your post is insensitive and divisive. As a self-proclaimed "chaser of racism" you should know better.
And now you are going to fall back on past posts as your 'out' for setting up this post for people to judge whether Hispanics had the right to feel the way they do about an offensive costume with a green card attached to it?
Hell, Savage used to be supportive of Blacks until Prop 8 passed in CA. Today, he is as racist against Blacks as Rush Limbaugh. Should we continue to measure Savage by his past posts and ignore his present day attitude?
I don't think so. And neither should anyone only measure you by your past. "TODAY" you have posted a very offensive racist and divisive post...Period.
I really think you just made a mistake. However, I don't expect you to be apologetic. You have never been one to admit your mistake. Therefore, you will remain a racist because you aren't big enough to admit your mistake.
I consider Latinos my brothers and sisters. And I am OFFENDED by that costume and that green card that came with the costume. Most of all, I am offended by the way you set up Hispanics/Latinos to be judged by your posters.
But if you don't give a damn about Hispanics/Latinos, then "redefine" 'Field Negro' and change what your blog is about.
WCS and a few others no longer here were right. You ARE full of shit and you are only looking for "hits", not substance.
Granny have you lost your fool mind? I don't know where you are going with the Incog. post.
ReplyDeleteBut alas, welcome back. Your racist, classist views have been sorely missed. I knew you would be back, actually betted a friend on how long you would stay gone.
FN has never apologized. I still remember when he mad a horrible statement about Asians being the flavor of the month for whitey. My mom is Asian, father black. I was so offended that he stepped to that level during a story about a girl dying. And to be honest, not all white folks are bad and FN seems to think they are.
ReplyDeleteMost of all, I am offended by the way you set up Hispanics/Latinos to be judged by your posters.
ReplyDeletePreach it brother! The oppressors become the oppressed!! FN played the Hispanics/Latinos/Latinas against the Blacks. Shame on you fn.
Anonymous 5:30:
ReplyDeleteHey, well that's great! I hope you collected your money. Do I get a cut since I am the cause of your newfound wealth?
Baby Granny VS Baby Anon:
ReplyDeleteTake it off the board freaks!
I have read FN's post a few times, I don't see it as any more than a question put to a group of readers.
ReplyDeleteActually, I believe FN says at the end of his post that he tends to lose his objective abilty, doesn't sound like he is setting up Latinos, that just doesn't ring true.
Anon 5:27p.m., I am in a good mood, because my birds just lay a royal beat down on the stinking G-Men. But still, who the f&^k are you to talk to me about being down with Hispanics? Please! You have no idea. But I will leave it at that.
ReplyDeleteOh, and try to work on your reading comprehension. Read my post again. S-l-o-w-l-y this time.
Hi granny, nice to see you back. I apologize for the rude interlopers. But now you and the others see what my e-mail inbox looks like every day. :)
Your post is so down the the Hispanic population and your post totally puts two groups of marginalized folks against one another.
ReplyDeleteAdmit you are racist bro.
BTW, Field did not say one way or the other what he felt about the costume. He asked a question, which was "I know Halloween costumes are supposed to be somewhat risque, but can they go too far in offending a particular group of people?"
ReplyDeleteThat right there should tell people that he was giving his posters an opportunity to express their opinion of it and being neutral. Had he said that he did not think it was offending, I would have thought that he was being bias. It didn't take a rocket science to figure that out. However, those who are out to destroy his blog tried to make a mold hill out of a mountain and twist his words because of their own bias and issues they have with field which more than likely stems from jealousy or envy.
Frankly speaking, from my point of view, the costume was offensive the green card and alien said it all, since this is what language is used to describe them even on MSM.
Maria, rorysmomma and Race Traitor gave a simple yes and all said it was offensive. I agree with them because it is. Even Iseesee thought that it was offensive and made a good point when she said, "When we do hear about another RACE of people being called "Illegal Alien's" who are we fooling? I am not FOOLED?"
Not just hispanics, but White folk too Estorks. We need strong BLACK LEADERS who lead by intelligence and heart. Those who don't belittle others or allow it around them. FN is becoming a disgrace. It really makes me kinda sad. I used to dig this place. But there are some really good afro sites out there. Hi
ReplyDeleteOh Granny one has to get up pretty early in the morning to full you now. You silly goose you.
ReplyDeleteGranny---> Thank you Lord for preventing "No Child Left Behind" from happening during my generation because the trolls are really evidence of what damage that program has cause as far as reading comprehension goes.
ReplyDeleteAnon---Thank you goddess above for trees and free will to make love often to both genders and be able to divorce and smoke weed
ReplyDeleteIn Granny's name...I mean the goddess' name, Amen.
FN only blogs this shit for hits. Isn't it obvious Anon, he said it earlier. Duh you jackass. If you think he cares or that he is not racist, you crazy.
ReplyDeleteAnon and Granny: Get your baby squabbles off the board.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 6:18:

Granny you gross old lesbian. HELL NO I don't dream about you. But you came here complaining about the mess on here and now you are part of it. That is why it's under my skin cause you are a hippocrite. Grow your ass up. You come in with a broomstick up your cooter, complain about the state of the board and then you become part of the mess!! How are you helping anyone, let alone black folk. Nigga Puleeze.
ReplyDeleteAnd the rest of you mother fuckers who are obnoxious and gross get the fuck outta here. I came to read something of use. Not useless like Granny, Anons, etc.
ReplyDeleteFuckers.
Field, "..But still, who the f&^k are you to talk to me about being down with Hispanics? Please! You have no idea. But I will leave it at that"
ReplyDeleteDear Field, don't just 'leave it at that'. How many times have you said you want people to be open on your blog? But you won't be open? Don't be a hypocrite; show some virtues.
I am really interested in knowing how much you care and respect Hispanics-and that this post was all a misunderstanding just like the one you did on the Asian. I am sure many of your Black, Brown, and White posters would be relieved. All would like to hear you say something good, especially many Blacks and Hispanics. Go ahead, confess.
BTW, I re-read your post s-l-o-w-l-y. And I still came to the same conclusion that MOST of your posters came to: 'your post is offensive'- not only to Hispanics but to other POCs and Whites as well.
Either many of your posters need to take several courses in reading comprehension, including Jody, or you need to go on your knees and pray for a heart of tolerance, kindness, love and compassion toward Hispanics and Latinos.
Glad your Birds won, and very happy to hear they softened your heart. LOL
Oh, I ALWAYS love it when white folks do these sorts of things. It forces non-Negro minorities to honestly assess how they are regarded in "our" nation. Sadly, almost every non-Negro minority group that has immigrated in mass into the U.S. did things the same way. Initially, they tried to prove to the dominant white culture that they were no threat to whites by being "better" than Blacks. This is why the G.O.P. STILL has such a strong hold on those foolish Cuban people in South Florida. However, white folks have always done one thing or another that proved them to be nothing but niggers with straight hair and a slightly different hue. This is one of those occasions. THANK YOU Mr. CHARLIE ! We'll have Hispanic people voting on the left with Blacks, Asians, Arabs, Jews, and Progessive Whites for sure.

ReplyDeleteStop lying and pretending that you came on here to discuss something of substance! We see through you.
You are a kid on here playing games with ya nasty disrespectful self. Nevertheless, you exposed yourself when you answered a question that was put to anonymous. You come on here and change up names and think that it is cute and clever, but it makes you look bad, deceptive, and untrustworthy. Smh!
Oh Granny, I have posted as anonymous. No shit Sherlock. You must be way old or something. "We see through you" You an the voices in your senile old brain lately. Leave me alone you fucking freak. Granny, time to retire to bed. You losing it old girl.

You are so predictable Granny. At least while you were gone we didn't have to listen to your mindless fights cause you let people pull you into this dumb stuff. Jesus.
ReplyDeleteDamn, this is one that would get my ass in trouble because I read the costume as making fun of those who're scared of illegal aliens. To me, it sorta lampoons xenophobia and fear of illegals. That said, if latin@s feel offended by it then I'm not gonna argue with their interpretation or wear it. My opinion/interpretation on something like this being the opposite of what they see is never worth making people feel degraded. Not for one moment is it worth making people feel bad.

ReplyDeleteYou have to stop and think if the people who make those type of costumes are aware of what they are doing. It's hard to believe that they are not aware of it being offensive because stereotypes and derogatory labels are common knowledge.
ReplyDeleteAnon @1:28 -
ReplyDeleteIf you really want to show your a bleeding heart, guilty, good liberal white woman then marry a black man from the hood and give him any money you make and let him have possession of you. Talk the Talk then WALK THE WALK!!
That's a first---permission to to pick the sweetest berry? How about that.
@Don - Beautifully said. Thank you.
@RT -- There's more in those words than that. If anything you just got labeled a possession to be owned either by a white man or a black man. It was so classically offensive the poster even suggested your property and earnings go to whoever you 'decide' is your new owner. Says a lot about anon 1.28's view of women.
ReplyDelete--j
You know, speaking for myself, I don't see anything wrong with interracial marriage. I married inside my race, but that is who I chose to be with. Likewise if people choose to be with someone outside their race, to me that's their business. They have a right to marry whomever they choose to spend the rest of their life with. I am not into picking a shade tree for anyone to stand under.
ReplyDeleteA few of my relatives, male and female are in interracial marriages and I don't see it as any different from marrying inside ones race. They are all happy and their marriage partners are happy and the kids are happy and that is what marriage is all about living happily ever after. I love their choice of mates as I do my own relatives. They are intelligent and nice people and the bottom line is that they are just that--people, like anyone else, the only difference is the color of their skin.
People need to get pass that thinking that it has to be a another reason why they married them other than they were in love and that they have something in common. When it all boils down they married them for the same reason that people who marry inside their race married their mates for. They were in love!
Nor do I think in order for a person to prove their bleeding heart that they have to marry someone outside their race. That is ridiculous. Who they marry has nothing to do with it. It is what's in their heart that really counts. Two of my best friends are white women, one is a French woman from France and the other one a white American woman, both are good hearted women, and the best of friends one could have. To me and my relatives, they are just like one of the family.
granny 8:11, you really are simple, I can't blame the anons for attacking you.

ReplyDelete"It was so classically offensive the poster even suggested your property and earnings go to whoever you 'decide' is your new owner. Says a lot about anon 1.28's view of women."
I agree with you.
@Granny -- You're correct. What most Americans don't realize is that the an enormous number of Americans who aren't recent immigrants are multiracial. A vast number of whites in the South, especially those who descend from the non-Planter classes have black and/or Indian admixture and vast majority of American blacks have both white and indian admixture. Both passing and the one drop rule forced this reality into a deep secrecy and to the point where it's been forgotten by many families.
ReplyDeleteWhite and black mixing was common in colonial days, especially among white servants and black servants/slaves. The white elites became so fearful of white/black alliances, especially after Bacon's Rebellion that laws were passed to forbid marriage and punish those who crossed color lines. And this is no theory, read some historical papers and many state flat out that they must prevent white/black marriage and alliances to prevent the elites from being overthrown.
After that they set out to prevent white/indian and indian/black alliances and marriages for the same reasons. They knew that if any of these groups got together it would be very easy to overthrow them and enough rebellions had taken place (stuff that's hardly talked about in school) that the colonial and later American elites were terrified and actively worked to stop non-elite class whites, blacks, and indians from getting together. And THAT is precisely where racism in America originated.
For a good overview check out Howard Zinn's "A People's History of the United States."

ReplyDeleteThe issue of immigration has loomed large over the past 2 years or so, and caused some bitter divisions within American discourse. So taking that into account, the costume is definitely offensive.
ReplyDeleteA poster above stated that there was no sombrero so it was not offensive. The fact that you said sombrero illustrates that the costume is simply a tongue in cheek jab at Mexican immigrants, and most people who see it will realize that. As for the sombrero, i guarantee some right winger was running around in that costume with one on his/her head for added emphasis.
To some of the posters above:
Its obvious that you people are intellectually deficient (like most right wingers) and to you folks "fact" is just another obscene four letter word, and "reason" is something you get when you sun dry grapes. But still i am thankful because with people like you "representing" conservative thought ( an oxymoron if there ever was one) its more than a certainty that Dems will be in the White House for the next 40 years.
Amen, J, I have more than one white grandfather and one white grandmother from back in those days in my family tree. I do genealogy as a hobby; therefore I had to study history along the way and, also, have a vast collection of books of that nature. What you say is the truth! My dad's side was in New Orleans and San Domingo, which has a history of mixing, so I am well aware of the mixing and passing. I have quite a few passing in my own. Some are very prominent people. On the other side of my family I would have never suspected any mixing back then, because my mother is dark skin, but boy was I surprised and our white relatives acknowlege it, and have the black family members pictures displayed and their relationship as well. They not hiding it not denying it, exchanged pictures with us, and we have theirs.
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a lot of Indian, white, black, and some of everything mixed up in the pot of families in colonial days. Hey, maybe, the melting pot theory wasn't so far from the truth after all when you think about it.
There have been many people who were surprised and shocked when they got to digging into records in Archives and found out they were not so lily white after all or so black or Indian. In fact, a woman wrote a book about just that same thing when she found out what her true heritage was. I can't think of the name of that book right off hand, but believe me she is not the first. There are many others, some who have discovered it, and some who have yet to discover it.
@J,
ReplyDeletethank you so much for your postings.
its sad how blacks can relish over having white grandmothers and white grandfathers. How sick are we blacks on this website. Laincognita and field negro G keep preaching reality.

ReplyDeletewho asked you about your heritage and who cares?
enough of yoour stories about your white relatives! enough! we've heard it before again and again. we know you have white blood in your family.
you must have some satanic blood in your family too because this blog was a lot more peaceful while you were gone. look at the comments when you came in and you'll see what I mean.
you are nothing but trouble, granny. no good christian would be wallowing in the sewer with sewer water drinking anons. satan has you in his grips.
Anonymous 10:16:
ReplyDeleteWhile I was gone this blog was far from peaceful. So I had nothing to do with that and I refuse to accept the blame for it or let you lay that on me. In the first place, I was answering J, and you chose to get involved in our conversation because of hatred in your own heart. Therefore, you should be willing to accept a check. How would you know what a good Christian is since you don't believe yourself and cannot see pass the color of people's skin. They accused Jesus of being an alcoholic because he mingled with and drunk wine with those that they considered undesirables.
I don't dislike white people, hispanics/latinos or any other race, what I dislike are bigots of those races and will continue to express that.
However, I am not the cause of your problems or anyone else on here and if I were you I would worry more about the grip that satan has on your mind because you are the one upset with what I said to J and it bothered you not anyone else what I said it. So, therefore, you need to a self-examination of you.
Thanks Granny and Kathy.
ReplyDelete@anon 9.31 -- Why should anyone not be proud of who they are? Most communities of Free People of Color came from white servant women and black men (many enslaved) because the status of the mother determined the status of the child. These women were bound out by courts, taxed, harassed, hid their children from slave catchers who would steal them and claim they were slaves and runaways and ran away with their men. The punishment for these women was often the lash and the risk of having their indenture bond extended or if they were free being bound. Tell me, how that is not a story of the human heart conquering all--something to be ashamed of?
Post-slavery the consequences were no less severe for those who defied the color line. Tell me, how they weren't brave? Tell me, how those folks defying racial laws, the Klan, lynch mobs, and challenging the very notion of segregation and racism are bad people.
Nobody's celebrating Massa raping whoever he pleases but most relationships that resulted in documented ancestry weren't that, certainly not among FPOC's who descend from ww and not post-slavery either. The amount of genetic admixture in Americans proves this as do various historical and family accounts of these relationships.
@anon 10.16 -- I hate to tell you this but if you're an American black rather than a recent black immigrant you've got about a 95%+ chance of having white ancestry. The average black American is around 10%+ white. The genetic studies have proven this. People got along a lot more than either blacks or whites realize.

here in america, massa was able to take a bw slave to bed any time he wanted. so you are right. blacks and whites got along just fine. LOL.
anyway, you missed the point of anon's comment.
@anon 11:38 -- Either your reading comprehension is poor or you're being intentionally stupid. Put up an argument if you have one but misrepresenting what I said doesn't cut it. It just make you sound like a bad FoxNews program and the conservative idiots who parrot them.

j "It just make you sound like a bad FoxNews program and the conservative idiots who parrot them."

ReplyDelete--j
I have to look at this from another perspective other than mines, which tells me that This Is Hardly New. I think if one looks closely there is a good amount of this irresponsible behavior taking place throughout this Great Land. So why should anyone have something negative to say? LOL.
ReplyDeleteBut, in all fairness, stuff like this is the last thing America needs.
I was the diversity in an all white school. I speak from experience when I say that this is typical of their brand of culturally insensitive humor. This isn't even the worst their "What are you offended?" jokes. If they couldn't sell these awful costumes, they wouldn't be made. Self-entitled people who have no concern for the thoughts and feelings of others buy this and laugh while mocking non-whites everywhere. It's a daily challenge sometimes not to hate. I know better. You do have a smattering of intelligent and moral white people, just not too many.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore, some of you black people (all over) need to stop throwing your "we and us" garden tools over in other peoples yards when YOU have so much to do in YOUR own backyards. Stop humping and fighting over petty shit for other "immigrants" in America. Get a clue! Call me a bitch all day, but you can't go around fixing other people's roofs when you're ass don't have a damn roof to sleep under at night.
ReplyDeleteDivide and conquer? it was always there - with or without whites.
LaIncognita@11:46 speaks the truth here, but this costume is still wrong and mocks people different from the majority.
Not having read any of the posts on here, and being hispanic, I don't think this costume is demeaning in any way. In fact, it is a testimony on how ridiculous the entire issue is. I think it's funny, especially since many of those who are considered 'aliens' have ancestors that were here eons before any of the current landowners. Really, it should have had a mask of Lou Dobbs, instead of a space alien.
ReplyDeleteyes fn!
ReplyDeletethis "costume" is blatantly racist
and akin to a chimp suit meshed with a porch= "porch monkey"
or a rabbit suit with a spear and leopard skin loin cloth = "jungle bunny"...
latinos should be boycotting
target stores even after they stop selling this foul item!
maybe we should stop all of halloween, most all costumes are sarcastic, if they were not here illeagal then they would not be offended, and since when did this costume pick out a particular group, looks like an alien face not any in particular, should we stop wearing wearing shirts that say inmate, state prison, we would not offend someone else that has done something illeagal, if we would shut our border and make those who imigrate to the usa come thru the legal channels we would not even find the suit being offered, if you are offended and are illeagal, oh well, if you are just offended lighten up, we americans have always poked fun at everything, maybe should be more worried about becoming a socailist country than this suit, wake up america!!!!

You're right, --j, and that wasn't lost on me, but I've heard so many folks on here blast "white" women for hooking up with Black men that I was surprised to read that, even with the misogyny and disrespect. My response was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.
On that issue--an anti-racist "white" woman who fights for social justice and who is painfully aware of white (and male) privilege isn't all that sought after by "white" men. Just sayin' -- I don't play well with my "own kind."
But that's a whole 'nother issue.
;)
RT,
ReplyDeleteThe poster clearly said "black man from the HOOD". I seriously doubt the black men you hook up with are hood, they're probably middle class and have a bit more than a pot to piss in.
White women like yourself use the advantages given to you by the euro-centic view of beauty in this society to marry the GOOD black men who have been taught to value white skin women over dark women.
Women like you deprive disadvantage black women from equal opportunity with the best men of their own culture. If you really care about the disparities black people face, then stop using your inherent advantages to deprive them.
Anon 3:52p "Women like you deprive disadvantage black women from equal opportunity with the best men of their own culture. If you really care about the disparities black people face, then stop using your inherent advantages to deprive them."
ReplyDeleteThere you go anon, blaming white women for taking the GOOD black men, whatever that means. Has it ocurred to you that maybe 'some' black men made a choice to be with a white woman? You ought to be ashamed of yourself for even saying such a thing. You are no better than the offensive low life jerk who insulted RT.
And what makes you think RT is interested in a life with a black man anyway? She has already told you that she is for social justice for all, not for taking YOUR man, if you have one.
Get a life, anon.
"There you go anon, blaming white women for taking the GOOD black men, whatever that means. Has it ocurred to you that maybe 'some' black men made a choice to be with a white woman? ReplyDeleteShe thinks she is a "special" white woman, a "race traitor", because she assumes she isn't racist.
She actually causes more trouble for the average black woman than a more openly racist woman. At least the openly racist woman is not depriving black women whose beauty and humanity has historically been marginalized of men of their own persuasion.
'Women like you deprive disadvantage black women from equal opportunity with the best men of their own culture. If you really care about the disparities black people face, then stop using your inherent advantages to deprive them."
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing anyone can say or do that will stop black men and white/non-black women from "hooking" up. Black men have fought their fight, and stomped on the necks of black women to gain the "right" to bed a white woman or a pink woman in peace.
White women are not "disadvantaging" black women, even as annoying as it can seem sometimes. Black women also need to take "advantage" of the surplus of good, loving hardworking white/non-black men who are also available to us. Especially the ones who well know a White/Asian/Latin woman has nothing over a black woman in any way. More white/non- black men and black women are in rapidly growing, loving and healthy relationships as we speak.
So when I hear both black and white hypocrite people wash their mouth to say how it doesn't bother them to see a black man with a white woman, I wonder if they give the same support towards the opposite.
Daaang. There is lots off topic drama 'round here.
ReplyDeleteMy Puerto Rican Two Cents:
As a US Citizen who has never had personal fear for or closeness with the issue of immigration of any sort, I have to say that I can empathize with not being wanted in this country despite the "equality" my blue passport affords me.
The costume, in my opinion, is intended as a joke but unfortunately like most hack comedy, does so at the expense of a particular group of people who are targeted by many groups- particularly the conservative media, capitalists of EVERY sort, and regular people who would rather see these undocumented immigrants treated inhumanely rather than pay $7 for a head a lettuce, etc.
Problem 1 is that many people scapegoat undocumented immigrants for all or most of the woes in the US. This is not to say that African Americans, Gays, Jews etc don't get any heat, but let's face it- illegal immigants can't sue or call the police.
Problem 2 is that over time this branding, as someone already mentioned, is wholly focused on undocumented Mexican people. Not Cambodians, not Canadians.
Is that costume bad, Field? Yes. I'm not an immigrant and neither were my parents, but I was raised to not pick on people based on an unfortunate circumstance. The surge in HATE CRIMES against latinos has increased FOUR fold in the last 6 years,, right along with the heat associated with the immigration debate.
These "illegals" are HUMAN BEINGS who deserve to be treated like human beings.
If we are going have a discussion about immigration, then let's do it in a way that doesn't relegate it dehumanization and doesn't fan the flames of hate rather than understanding.
La Incognita- Can you empathize with campaigns by White people who historically named black people as inhuman? [Pickaninny? Sambo? Saphire?] The affects of this hatred is something Blacks STILL deal with in the workplace, in their communities, in life in general. The dumanizing assertions for Blacks (Black Face? ) started as jokes too...
It needs to stop. This is not a joke. It's indicative of the surge of hate that will quickly get worse unless people who will not tolerate it AGAINST ANYONE says something. Let's name it. That costume was about hate.
"Can you empathize with campaigns by White people who historically named black people as inhuman?"
ReplyDeleteAnd let's not forget the white AND brown latinos "who historically names black peoples as inhuman" in Latin America.
"Can you empathize with campaigns by White people who historically named black people as inhuman?"
ReplyDeleteOf course. Now, do Mexicans/South Americans/non-black Hispanics empathize when blacks challenge those racist campaigns by whites against blacks? Or do most of them chuckle along and think blacks are being too sensitive?
Furthermore, my one grandmother was a dark-skin half black, half indigenous Puerto Rican Indian from Ponce. I am very familiar with so many other "Puerto Rican two cents" when it also comes to colorism and discrimination among Puerto Ricans.
LI--"I am very familiar with so many other "Puerto Rican two cents" when it also comes to colorism and discrimination among Puerto Ricans."
ReplyDeleteWow, you know everything. It's a waste of time talking to an omnisicient being like you because you prove time and again that you empathize with no one but yourself.

ReplyDeleteWhat I am discussing is based wholly on dynamics in the United States- sure we can discuss issues globally, but that just further moves us away from tackling the issue of immigration within the United States. I never once asserted an American superiority to race politics. Stop trolling.

Colorism exists with all groups. Paper bag test ring bell? That, for me, is not the point. The point I am trying to make is that we have much in common. And let's face it we can all name individuals both African American and Puerto Rican and certainly other groups that have biases against other groups. It's not a basis to generalize as liberally as you are doing. It isn't constructive, and it serves no one. Correction: it serves the KKK.
Anon @3:52
ReplyDeleteThe poster clearly said "black man from the HOOD". I seriously doubt the black men you hook up with are hood, they're probably middle class and have a bit more than a pot to piss in.
Shows how much you know.
White women like yourself use the advantages given to you by the euro-centic view of beauty in this society to marry the GOOD black men who have been taught to value white skin women over dark women.
You don't know me, but take my word for it----I'm not looking for the marrying kind.
Women like you deprive disadvantage black women from equal opportunity with the best men of their own culture. If you really care about the disparities black people face, then stop using your inherent advantages to deprive them.
Deprive? Lolz. Give me a break. You're clueless.
Anon @4:44 (though I assume you're the same person as above)
She thinks she is a "special" white woman, a "race traitor", because she assumes she isn't racist.
Now you're pissing me off. I would never be so stupid or insensitive to assume that I am not racist. I am a product of a white supremacist racist culture, and while I'm trying to identify and fight the insidious toxicity of racism, I cannot help but be influenced by it. I'm anti-racist. I know the damage racist rhetoric and images do to Black children; I hate that those representations crawled into my child-brain and caused the subconscious racist damage that I constantly work to undo.
She actually causes more trouble for the average black woman than a more openly racist woman. At least the openly racist woman is not depriving black women whose beauty and humanity has historically been marginalized of men of their own persuasion.
Oh, FUCK YOU. What an ridiculously fallacious argument.

ReplyDeleteColorism exists with all groups. '
You can call me La.
And guess which type skin hue on the color scale totem pole just happens to be the least desired in those various non-white cultures? So by that being established, how are you disproving that Mexicans/Latin Americans (and even other "minority" non-black groups in America) on a collective may very well be racist towards black people or black looking people? What are we debating?
"Paper bag test ring bell? That, for me, is not the point."
Of course it rings a bell, and it's not just administered intra-culturally by black people. Please revert to my last paragraph above.
'The point I am trying to make is that we have much in common."
And of course blacks and Mexicans/Latin Americans/Asians/Middle Eastern etc. etc. and etc. have so much in common. Especially when it's convenient for them to piggy back on what so many black people in particular have fought for while paving the civil road, during what history has considered as the "Black" Civil Rights era in America.
"And let's face it we can all name individuals both African American and Puerto Rican and certainly other groups that have biases against other groups."
(And one thing you can count on, the only time other "minority" groups try to include blacks - is when they want to state the negative or somehow insinuate how blacks also participate in reverse racism towards other groups). We can sweep this under the chicken and egg rug for all I'm concerned.
Furthermore, I was speaking on these issues in the collective. And you were the one who brought in your "Puerto Rican" two cents, so I shared my personal experience with Puerto Rican culture. Also, by you stating your Puerto Rican (Spanish speaking) heritage puts me to wonder if you identify more with Mexicans rather than with Black people in America. Either way, it goes to show that not only is white society predominantly racist, but Latin/Hispanic culture is evidently colorist and clannish. Where does that leave black people, or black looking people in America? Especially black people who don’t even know a second language, much less Spanish to compete economically with the growing, thriving, and very colorist “Latin” community in America?
Evita, I have nothing against you (nor Latin people). I was born as an American citizen outside the US mainland (assuming you were too). On a clear day, I can see Puerto Rico from my deck. (Many Black Americans would even discriminate against me, but I see beyond that, I understand the twisted dynamics). Like you (assuming) I too can habla fluently, you and I could have equal education, similar personality traits, work experiences. But unless I can somehow pump up a non-black heritage in my background and prove to leap buildings from a single bound, you may very well be the preferred candidate on job interviews just based on colorism. Especially if interviewed by a white or Latin CEO. This not only applies to just inside America, it applies to many places universally, due to black skin denigration. And please don’t deny that.
All I am trying to say, is that if “black” people (especially black people who yap on this blog) want to expend their energy harping over petty racism aimed at another group, they need to fight for themselves and their own well being first and foremost. You can’t help others if you can’t even help your already endangered self. Black people can’t afford to keep lending out their "we and us" energy and resources, especially without reciprocation from others who are going to walk on their necks eventually. Black people do not owe other groups here in America anything. Black people need to apply more Quid Pro Quo tactics, or they will always be left behind. Simple.
(I'm done with this. Sorry for any typos, don't feel like proof reading all of that.)
Anon4:44p "She thinks she is a "special" white woman, a "race traitor", because she assumes she isn't racist."
ReplyDeleteNo Anon, RT doesn't think she is special...YOU think she is special. That is YOUR problem, not hers.
As I said before, you need to get a life and stop blaming others for your misery.
@RT-"Oh, FUCK YOU. What an ridiculously fallacious argument."
Way to go, RT! Now she understands you. Those two words always makes more sense to an idiot than reason.
