Go ahead and jack this thread.

*
Tonight is an an open forum, so please feel free to talk about whatever.

You can start by telling us what you got for Christmas and what you plan to give. Let's hope that you are all in the Christmas spirit by now. (Fellows, if you got your significant other a really nice gift, like a car or a piece of jewelry that would make Bugs Bunny hungry, please keep it to yourself.)

The lady who attacked the Pope while he tried to give Christmas Eve Mass sure wasn't acting like she is in the Christmas spirit. What a Scrooge!

    to their early graves

    along comes Obomber

Twas a few hours before Christmas and all through the Land

    Everyone was stirring about
    Obama's health care plan.

    Temperatures were rising on
the Republican side of the Senate.

Trying to hold up progress on a bill with consensus in it.

The R's couldn't care less about the Christmas spirit in the air.

They were too busy bitchin' and decrying national health care.

Meanwhile Obama was wrapping gifts for his girls and crew.

Singing "This Christmas" Michelle, I'll be home with you.

Maybe it will snow tomorrow in DC and he will go for a luge.

Merry up FINEFROGHAIR it's Christmas tomorrow - don't be a SCROOGE!

My mother has dementia, and very little breaks through to give her joy. So my kids and I have downloaded a bunch of big band, swing and jazz music on an MP3 player - her favorite artists, like Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughn, Duke Ellington. Keep a good thought for us.

As for me, I've got the presents wrapped and hear the kids bumping around upstairs while I'm here sipping on a bit of cognac and surfing the web.

Best wishes for a merry Christmas for you and yours Field and I'd like to extend that to every poster here.

Hey brother Field again I want to wish you and yours a merry Christmas! I appreciate what you try to do on this blog.

On fellow bloggers:When you said that the topic was open I thought I would see Constructive Feedback rambling on and on (lol). I don't figure him for a Christian, so I know he's not somewhere paying respects to Jesus. He is a bit mean spirited and clearly lacks humility and any sense of proportion with his always bombastic posts. He is a classic Uncle Tom who never points blame at the systems damage to black and working class ambitions.

Didn't mean to pick on him but his calling "ignorant" Eisenhowers' famous diatribe about, how the making of weapons for war represents theft from those who hunger, was one of the most asinine and coldest statements I have ever heard.

ON Christmas: When I think about the birth of Jesus representing the advent of the possibility of peace and goodwill to humankind I can't help but get a little pissed at folks who support the murderous rampages that this government is involved in Iraq and Afghanistan and even Pakistan. I say murderous because while we go about our lives as if none of this is happening, literally tens of thousands of innocent folks have been killed -- that is the folks that they are supposedly not after. Personally I think these folks (read US government)don't really care who they kill, they just make a show of it when they think someone may be watching.

On technology: I saw Avatar the other night and while watching the previews in 3D and seeing that there is going to be a 3D movie about the repair of the Hubble telescope, it dawned on me that I live in a society with the ability to send folks into space, build a telescope that can peer into the next world, create 3D, show the Hubble being repaired in 3D, make a movie (Avatar)with all kinds of new fangled technological bells and whistles, create all kinds of weaponry, YET CANT FIND A WAY TO FEED,HOUSE,EDUCATE,PROVIDE HEALTHCARE OR PROVIDE FAIRNESS FOR ALL ITS POPULATION.

Can you say immoral! Field its time to start talking about a third way. The Republicans and the Democrats have both sold us out as Malcolm said a long time ago.

    ReplyDelete
  9. mellaneous1:07 AM

On Avatar: Field no doubt the theme of white man coming to save the natives was definitely there. But we still have to give folks credit when they realize the error of their ways and try to right some of the damage that they and their kind has wrought as Jake Scully does in this movie. In that vein it was somewhat redemptive. In this movie, unlike the very real consequences in "Last Sumari" in which the Sumari had to make room for capitalism and the doomed Sioux who had to make room for US expansion and yes capitalism in "Dances with Wolves" the natives actually come out on top.

The other important turn around was on the part of the young female helicopter fighter pilot who made the decision that she could no longer kill folks who had no quarel with her. I don't see folks discussing it, but it was one of the most poignant moments in the movie. I don't know if the writers intended it but it sure was an anti-war statement. It said to me that even our people in Afghanistan and Iraq can still say no, to fighting folks for the sake of US imperialism and just as important fighting folks that they have no quarrel with.

Thank God that well meaning folks have come to the aide of oppressed folks all through history. There has not been a single revolution without some major players switching class or national allegiances. It will happen again when the working class decides they have had enough and can run society justly unlike the present ruling class, some of the members of the ruling class and definitely petite bourgeosie types will come over to our side.

On Obama: I hope you give me props for being one of the lone rangers on your blog who kept saying that Obama wasn't who they thought he was.

On Christians:Hey I was hoping you would publicize that foolishness by the Christian right.

And look for me to nail Pastor Rick Warren in the coming year over at Black Agenda. He is a real backwards guy who covers his tracks by doing decent charitable work, but his ideology undermines all of it in my opinion. As a so called progressive Christian -hell the truth is I am revolutionary Christian- I loathe many of my so-called evangelical brethren, I don't know what Jesus they are following.

    Merry Christmas
    liberation then peace

  11. Merry Christmas to all.

If you doing a plain New England Roasted Turkey, try pairing it with Martha's white wine gravy. It makes all the difference.

If you have money to burn, make a bourbon pecan fried turkey. I swear you won't have leftovers. I know arteries, calories and fat, but for real, Christmas comes but once a year.

May you get everything you both want and need.

Though this is but a symbolic day to commemorate his birth into the world, Jesus' mission was to have all who follow to come into their full form by first believing in him and letting go of all other distractions that have bound them from this completed form.

May the spirit of Jesus fill your heart and soul on this blessed day and everyday there after as you are used as a 'fisher of men' for his glorious purpose.

I may be a caucasian, I may not agree with everything you say, but dammit, when a man thinks something through like you do it's worth a good read and consideration. You keep writin' 'em: I'll keep readin' 'em.

I wholly agree with Sarge. Don't always agree with what Field thinks, but it's always worth considering. And he's been know to change his outlook based on some people's comments....so it's all good.

You're about one step ahead of me in geezerdom, Sarge, just turned 61. And I'm caucasian, too, as well as a godless heathen and a liberal progressive. This is an eye-opening place to hang out, whether you agree or disagree.

  33. OK Christmas has passed.
Now's it time to "go back to the 'club'".
That starts with neighborliness of course but it also includes social and economic justice.
Mellaneous:

    1) Neighborliness is a TWO WAY STREET. It would have been insane to expect the Blacks in this nation who were being attacked by Klansmen back in the day to seek "neighborly relations" with those who attacked them. Thus there must be some fundamental agreement upon the foundations of a relationship for their to be neighborliness.

Certainly if you find that your neighbor has a long water hose attached to your outside spigot as you see your water bill triple unexpectedly - you are not going to be inclined to be kind.

After that neighbor claims that the 8 people in HIS HOUSE have voted to siphon YOUR WATER and because you only have 2 people in your house - MAJORITY RULES - you will start to see that your proximate relation to them and their agenda is problematic.

The fact that they have labeled what they did as 'Economic Justice" because they went through the process of VOTING to raid your wallet certainly does not make it JUST.

The missing dialogue is about what THEY OWN SOCIETY in support of the standard of living that they desire.

    6:41 pm

    I thank you for reading
what I wrote...I'm flattered (for real).

Since you are seeking knowledge about me...I will give you some insight.

I am a 3rd generation catholic (non-practicing). I attended catholic schools with the inclusion of graduating from a catholic high school (as did my siblings). I thank God that most of the priests were racist enough not to like little black boys and girls because we got a pass from the sexual abuse they practiced.

Therefore I am a unique positon to comment on YOUR holy father (he sho' aint mine).

My spiritual journey began more than 45 years ago and I have found what works for ME. I believe in the teachings of Jesus the Christ. I do not belong to an organized religion, the main reason Jesus died in the first place...organized religion. It has a tendency to leave people out...especially the poor, weak, women and children. These are the same people I advocate for everyday in my profession.

Having said that...every Christmas there are things I do...Collect Toys for Tots...adopt a fmaily for Thanksgiving and Christmas to give food, money, clothes and toys for the kids. This year I had a family with 5 kids...last year a single woman with 8 kids...year before that...well your'e a brigt kid, you get the idea.

    What I know for sure:

There are 3 types of people in the world:

    1.Those that make things happen.
    2. Those that watch what happens.
    3. Those that ask what happened.

so...mr. annon..just how annon are you...whut chu do fer po folk fer da holidayze?

I will leave you to speak to the terrorist thing. I lived in England during the IRA bombings and narrowly missed one. I also lived in Germany when we (America) invaded Grenada (ever see our military in full battle gear on civilian streets...not a pretty sight). I also was in Turkey and had a scare there.

All of this has less affect on me than it does to see the terror that is being committed right here on American soil by Americans.

Add to that, I am old enough to remember what it was like before desegregation. I guess you can say I have lived amongst terrorists all my life.

My only comment is this: He was a blazing idiot! He had fluid leaking down his pants and one of the passengers noticed it and jumped on him while he tried to light it?!?!
Although...the terrorists may be trying out some new stuff...who knows...I don't worry about what I cannot control.

If you want some unsolicited advice...when/if you fly...look at everyone on board and let them know that if they plan on committing a terrorist act while YOU'RE on board...that YOU plan on slamming them like that passenger did! :) Happy New Year annon.
