I am used to living in a place where murders occur on the regular. I remember growing up in Jamaica and well over a thousand murders in a year was not that unusual. Believe me, for an island of about two million people that's a lot. Do the math. Now I live in a place I affectionately call Killadelphia (see my murder count on the side-bar) and even though we are doing much better, over three hundred killings in a given year is still way too much.
Still, when it comes to murders, both Philly and Jamaica might have to take a back seat to my friends south of the border. In 2008 alone they had well over 5,000 murders in that bad boy. That is Iraq type numbers. Since Calderon took office in 2006 they have had over 8,000 murders. Those are mind numbing numbers for a country that is not officially at war. Although, I take that back; they are at war, but it's a war against drug cartels, who are actually at war with each other. If you live on the American side close to the Mexican border, you have to be concerned, because now the violence is spilling over into the good ole U.S.A.. Thank goodness my Cancun days are over, because it's no fun getting your party on at Senor Frogs if you have to be listening for gunshots. It must be tough being a young buck on spring break down in that bad boy these days. Thirteen killed in Acapulco this past weekend alone.
And, sadly, now comes news that three people with ties to the American embassy were killed as well. Understandably our president is not pleased, and who can blame him?
"President Barack Obama expressed outrage over the killings, and Mexican President Felipe Calderon promised a swift investigation.Several U.S. citizens have been killed in Mexico's drug war, most of them people with family ties to Mexico. However, it is rare for American government employees to be targeted."
Don't hold your breath for President Calderon jumping on that investigation there O man, I suspect that some people very high up in his administration have dogs in these cartel fights. This is nothing new. We have seen this movie before, and I suspect that we will see it again. Unfortunately there is a lot of violence in this movie, and I am pretty sure that there won't be a happy ending.
one solution: legalize pot.
ReplyDeletefrom NPR:
http://www.npr.org/news/graphics/2009/mar/mexico-cartels/
Mexico Drug Cartel Territory
Mexico is the top supplier of marijuana — and also a major supplier of methamphetamines — to the United States. In addition, it is a major transit country for other drugs, including cocaine and heroin, coming from other countries. Mexican cartels have now displaced Colombian groups as the dominant cocaine traffickers in the world. Several drug cartels in Mexico have a part in the process, and often war over territory. As Mexican President Felipe Calderon's administration has attempted to clean up the country and to rid Mexico of the top narco-traffickers, other cartel members have killed thousands in an effort to swoop in on the territory and trafficking routes left behind.
Roll over the highlighted areas of the map to learn more about the major Mexico drug cartels and areas of dispute.
"President Barack Obama expressed outrage over the killings"
ReplyDeleteWhat, no "shout out" before the mandatory expression of "outrage"?
I'm disappointed.
The key thing here is, let's make sure "diversity" isn't a casualty. Because that would be the real outrage, right, O?
what an asshole you are, karen. seriously. what the fuck does this have to do with "diversity?"
ReplyDeletego have a cup o tea, GF!
Maria.. not just pot... all of it. Drug treatment costs less, both financially and in the lives slaughtered on the streets of Mexico and Philly.
ReplyDeleteWe need a radically different approach to the drug war because there are too many lives being lost. And, a side benefit would be emptying out our prisons of all the drug offenders.
Mexico's homicide rate is 11-14 per 100,000 people, as opposed to 50 per 100,000 (1,000 in 2,000,000) in Jamaica and 20 per 100,000 (300 in 1,500,000).
ReplyDeleteOf course, 111,000,000 people, that comes out to roughly 120,000-150,000 homicides per year.
Mexico's population and homicide rate, as well as Philadelphia's population, are from Wikipedia.

ReplyDeleteYep, remaining pissed off abt the Ft Hood massacre I guess does make me an asshole. Not planning on "getting over it" anytime soon.
The big Zero can go to hell and take his phony "outrage" with him.
Maria,
ReplyDeletePeople like Karen like to make up Obama's response when it doesn't fit their reality, so they can continue to vilify him.... Think about it, it is HER mind that came up with a "shout out"... not his... who is the fucked up one here?

I thought Jody's comments were quite pithy.
And Obama deserves all the shit he gets, and then some.
@Jody
ReplyDeleteCanceling the "war on drugs" would mean dialing back the police state and actually giving citizens more control over how they choose to live their lives.
John Stossel just did a good piece on prohibition and the phony drug war.
Instead of real reform just stand by for more political grandstanding, more "expressions of outrage" and more funding and justification to escalate the militarization of the border.
Strike that, I meant KAREN.
ReplyDeleteJody is, as usual, a cipher.
@Jody
ReplyDeletethe big Zero is a disingenuous political hack, no different than the other empty suits.
the "shout out" is in reference to the "shout out" he gave before making his remarks post-Ft Hood.
it was a slap in the face to every member of the military and highlighted his complete disdain for every American in uniform.
you may have forgotten the Zero's response (or non-response) to Ft Hood but I never will.
ergo the same fake expressions of "outrage" -- he doesn't give a damn, isn't outraged, and nothing will change, except to escalate the police state and infringement of our freedoms, and the phony "war on drugs".
The drug war continues! I wouldn't look to Obama for help either; he's not even for the legalization of pot!
ReplyDeleteKaren, are you fucking serious?
ReplyDeleteDo you mean to tell me that the Commander-in Chief-of-the-military of-the-United-States-of-America has to reach a level of anger that satisfies you?
And can you please explain to me what difference it would make if President Obama really was a Muslim and/or showed a sufficent amount of pissedoffness about the Fort Hood massacre?
Will you ever be able to cross the thin line back into sanity enough to see how fucking stupid and inconsequential you sound by writing that? Where's the nexus between being a Muslim, and being: a traitor, a Communist, a Socialist...or any of the other pointless derogatory crap you accuse him of?
Does being such an asshole cause you physical pain...or is it just mental anguish? You know...never being able to "belong" and join legitimate American society?

Transpose that convenient, hypocritical thinking onto modern GOP policy, and you'll notice threads of the same hypocrisy, self-delusion, lies, and fervent religious brainwashing within both of them. Makes you wonder about the GOP's desire to seperate Church and State, or lack of desire thereof. NeoCons: if I wanted to live in a religious-ruled country, I would move to Iran or Vatican City. ReplyDeleteJody I am feeling you!
Drugs are big business and until they stop being so profitable they are going to continue to make a mess of Mexican society, Columbian, and Afghanistan/Pakistan.
In Mexico it is clearer how the corrupt heads of the free market government and corrupt officials conspire to make the business of dealing and selling drugs nearly impossible to stop.
It has always been amazing to me how the US can't stop drugs from entering this country, but have satelites that can see nearly a fly on a wall but can't spot drug boats and planes bringing drugs into the country.

ReplyDeleteI co-sign with some of the folks above: LEGALIZE IT!!!! If they do, I will be like fellow yawdie, Peter Tosh, and put the first paid commercial on this blog. :)
Karen, that was a joke about Obama and Mexico, right? You do realize, don't you, that it was the republican's (and Clinton) policy on the war on drugs and their treatment of the Mexican government that got us into this mess. Not to mention their lack of foresight when the cartels were winding down in Colombia and moving up to Mexico.
mellaneous, thanks for that Nation link.
Today is going to be a good day at work following the responses.
ReplyDeletefn you another one of those pot smoking jamaicans?
ReplyDeleteI find it fascinating that the right is screaming about a police state... Obama is turning the US in to a police state!!!
ReplyDeleteMy question is... WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN? Did I see you on the streets protesting with me when the drums beat for war, based on lies? Did I do your legal support when you were arrested for protesting in the past 10 years, over and over.... mass arrests of people in Philadelphia, DC, New York City, Miami??? Over and over later found NOT GUILTY??? Were you one of the people who was beaten, peppersprayed, had concusion grenades lobbed at you, threatened by cops to kill you... all for exercising your FREE SPEECH rights????
Did you live in New Orleans when the waters rose and the police shot and killed your family members for trying to get out? Were you watching as your president flew over your head while your neighbors were drowning???
Do you think the war on drugs and the tough on crime speak started with Obama??? Almost EVERY friggin conservative runs a campaign on how tough on crime and how willing to use violence they are.... Where the hell do you think mandatory minimums came from?
All of you fucking righties that have your friggin panties in a wad over police state are un-friggin believable! The fuckers YOU SUPPORTED have put the laws and tools into place of a police state and now you wanna talk about Obama and a police state, GET THE FUCK OUTA HERE!!!

WOW!!!! This is better than political hack Roland Martin enforcing the "Call him MR TIBBS" (I mean "President Obama")
Jody SINCE WHEN did you concern yourself about REALITY in one's framing of a political adversary? Filled Negro's daily "Self Chum" is typically a "Frame-Up".
If Filled Negro was a key C.I. for the police the Criminal Justice system in Philly would be taken over by the feds for massive corruption.
LEGALIZE DRUGS.....our problems will be solved. YEAH RIGHT.
ReplyDeleteThink leftists. THINK!!!
Right now drugs are cheap. The need to evade evil government law enforcement puts the costs in TRANSPORTING SMUGGLED DRUGS.
Legalizing it will merely place the import of this substance in the hands of GOVERNMENT REGULATION.
But wait a minute:
* Cigarettes are taxed to death
* Alcohol is taxed to death
Do you think that Schedule 1 drugs WON'T BE TAXED TO DEATH if made legal?
After a certain price point due to TAXATION - a BLACK MARKET will be formed.
Those evil government agents who now work to suppress the import of illegal drugs (Well except the CIA which is sending Crack into the Black community) will now be employed to keep the BLACK MARKET DRUGS out so that they don't compete against their TAX REVENUE STREAM!!!!!!!!!
I realize that some of you are more bound to your ideological leanings than you are to reality.
I beg any of you to refute this taxation and black market theory.
Low & Country is an ideological FRAUD.
Did you live in New Orleans when the waters rose and the police shot and killed your family members for trying to get out? Were you watching as your president flew over your head while your neighbors were drowning???
YOU ARE SO RIGHT ABOUT THIS ONE JODY!!!!
If this was Obama - he would have had Air Force One hover right above the Lower 9th Ward who's earth I walked upon about 1 year later. Obama would have taken the controls in the cockpit. He would turn the engines on FULL BLAST, causing the waters that were escaping from the INDUSTRIAL CANAL onto the houses - BACK INTO THE CANAL.
All the while the emergency chutes and inflatable rafts from Air Force One would have been released. Obama would put the plane on AUTOPILOT as he personally rowed around to each rooftop RESCUING the people who would have drowned!!!
Each of these people would be allowed to wash on Air Force One with presidential towels. They would each be given a presidential robe and then treated to a meal on the plane that was served on the "Obama Limited Edition PLATE" - just like the one that they had on their mantle.
The thing that is frustrating about YOU Jody is that you use the SYMBOLISM of evil Bush having FAILED to land in N.O. as a molotov cocktail to throw at Air Force One -WITHOUT any notion of how this would have MATERIALLY BENEFITED those who needed rescue. IF HE DID LAND you would today be attacking him for doing PHOTO OPS at a time when people needed to be rescued.
If ONLY you were more interested in finding out WHO GREEN LIGHTED the idea of putting poor people in KNOWN FLOOD LANDS. And then the idiots who want to give them the RIGHT TO RETURN (so that they can VOTE) - only to suffer from the flood that will happen again in the next 35 years if the pace continues.
Jody the thing I fear the most about you is that on occasion you get into a room full of FELLOW BELIEVERS and never have your views confronted.
Do you think the war on drugs and the tough on crime speak started with Obama??? Almost EVERY friggin conservative runs a campaign on how tough on crime and how willing to use violence they are.... Where the hell do you think mandatory minimums came from?

ReplyDeleteNo Tom.
I think Obama, unlike Bush, would have listened to and followed some very sound advice given to him by rescue experts.
Two days before the imminent storm the US Government could have had Naval supply ships and CG cutters in New Orleans to transport stranded citizens to high ground areas.
FEMA could have worked in tandem with cruise ship lines (government would have paid) to house stranded NO citizens temporarily.
There were at least 3 closed down Military bases within 200 miles of New Orleans that had the infrastructure and facilities to house thousands, particularly the elderly and children until permanent housing was available.
The Bush administration royally fucked up during Katrina and the world saw it.
You can stop your jigging now.
It's been over 4 years.

ReplyDeleteOh, lets DO talk about this... let's see, I believe the people who push for development of flood lands are the same beloved land speculators/capitalists who do not want regulation of capital or any government official telling them where they can develop anything. These real estate developers do not want regulation of land for use, they do not want environmental regulations... they think government should stay out of the private sector and let them do what they want, how they want where they want... Sound familiar UnConn??? AND when the consequences of these actions are attempted to be mitigated, ie, FULL funding for repair of the levees because the same friggin developers see the levees as not their responsibility.... these are the SAME folks howling about government spending!!!!
No doubt there have been dumbocrats, as well as republicans that have supported all of the above... but it is the republicans who have, over and over and over, INSISTED we cannot afford to pay for such things. And, if you look at The Netherlands, you see a country that spends on it's infrastructure, surrounded by water, but yet they do not have the Katrina nightmares we do because a. unscrupulous land speculator/capitalists and b. republicans who will not fund the neccessary infrastructure to mitigate the damage of said speculators equals c. poor folks getting screwed, coming and going!

Don't challenge the MYTHS about Katrina. They are still needed by blind stevie, along with his myths of global warming and the healthcare crisis, to justify his hate and ratuionlize his looting.
I'm not sure what the ultimate solution to the failed war on drugs is, but decriminalizing possession and small scale cultivation would lower the cost of dealing with a segment of the overall problem of drugs in our country.
ReplyDeleteLet's face it, as a nation we love our drugs, legal and illegal. If it weren't for the perpetuated stigmas attached to pot, and the near-conspiracy by big pharma and big alcohol to keep it illegal, it probably would be legal by now.
We face a lot of problems as parents, and there are too many "gateway drugs" to list. Personally, I am more concerned about the flood of prescription pills than pot. No one ODs on pot.
However, our President is in a tight spot. How anyone can think that it's even possible for the first black president to come in and push an agenda based on favoring ~20% of the population (reparations and glbt legislation) blows my mind. He's doing some things wrong, some things right, and so far I still hold out hope that in the end (ie a second term) he'll push through a lot more social change than has been possible given the huge plate of shit left in the oval office by GWB.
Just my two cents, I await the personal attacks and name calling with resignation.
"However, our President is in a tight spot. How anyone can think that it's even possible for the first black president to come in and push an agenda based on favoring ~20% of the population (reparations and glbt legislation) blows my mind.."
ReplyDeleteAnother FOX drone.
Please explain how Obama is pushing "reparations" and how GLBT legislation does anything more than affording gay people the same rights as other adults.
I'll wait patiently for your response.
Hey Steve, No, not a FOX drone. And I DO support gay marriage rights to all. Sorry about the term "reparations", I used it as a catchall for those who think "because our President is half black, he should immediately focus on ethnic inequities".
ReplyDeleteIn tackling health care, and if it eventually morphs into a single payer system, he'll have done more for our country than anyone since LBJ (Kennedy).
For my vote, he has already delivered the most important change of all. He scrapped GWBs Constellation Program and has set an agenda for NASA that will impact the future of our country for generations.
I like the time line of ancient Chinese history on Wikipedia, it gives one a sense of how long things take, of how we need to think long term while agitating and speaking out for the things that matter the most for our cities, families, and country.
I have to get to work, but will think on this today and get back to you with more later.

TWO DAY'S BEFORE?
What LOGISTICS EXPERT IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would send a ship INTO AN AREA THAT IS GOING TO BE POUNDED? If you notice - ships are moved AWAY FROM SHORE, into the Gulf when storms are heading toward the coast. (Not that facts matter to you Steve).
Second - you fail to note that there WAS AN EVACUATION ORDER registered - 2 days prior to the storm after the governor and mayor hedged on doing so earlier. To their credit - no one knew exactly where the storm would go at that point when it was over Florida.
EVEN WITH THE MANDATORY EVACUATION - the people who were left are those who said they'd WAIT IT OUT - this storm was like the other storms they survived.
They failed to note that Bush would blow up the levees and drown all of their "Black azzes" (right Steve?)
FEMA could have worked in tandem with cruise ship lines (government would have paid) to house stranded NO citizens temporarily.
You are an IDIOT!!!
Most of the cruise ships are on the EAST of Florida (in the Caribbean). Please use your brilliance and tell us how you figure that these ships - even at full throttle would make it through the Gulf to New Orleans AND their owners would be willing to PLACE THESE SHIPS IN HARMS WAY?
There were at least 3 closed down Military bases within 200 miles of New Orleans that had the infrastructure and facilities to house thousands, particularly the elderly and children until permanent housing was available.
Steve - I assume that you are talking about BEFORE THE STORM.
1) The highways out were ALREADY congested
2) Some people DID NOT WANT TO GO!!!
3) I realize that in your version of the story - all of the helicopters and personnel necessary to evacuate the city in 6 hours were in IRAQ - killing Brown skinned people per Bush's orders BUT.........How do you explain the LOGICAL LEAPS in LOGISTICS that you are clearly registering?
The biggest indictment against you and Jesse Jackson is that in the face of what has happened twice in the past 40 years - YOU STILL seek to put people back in harms way of FLOODING.
Did you ever walk the grounds of the Lower 9th Ward?
I DID - with a GPS in hand to see the elevation readings.
I wouldn't even put YOUR HOUSE in that danger zone let alone someone I had love for.
Obama hasn't created the jobs that you had magically hoped for -DO YOU REALLY THINK that the MATERIAL outcome of a New Orleans flood would be any different?
The ONLY difference would be is that "Washington Watch With Roland Martin" would force people to say "President Obama" instead of allowing the to say "Barack has failed us"
(Fraudulent Kneegrow and he doesn't even know it)

ReplyDeleteSo you had problems with bush doing it but when a democrat does it you have no problem?
Where did all the war protesters go, do they now support a war for oil with a democrat in the white house?
Where are all the protests over the constitution busting patriot act? Once a democrat got in office the protests ended.
Why isn't code pink getting the same amount of face time on teev? Oh yeah, democrat in the white house.
What happened to Cindy Sheehan, was she just someone the left used to bash bush? Under the bus with her too.
What happened to all the complaints/whining about lobbyists? Oh yeah, democrat in the white house so the fact that lobbyists enjoyed their best year under Obama isn't a concern anymore to those on the left.
It's amazing to watch so many on the left give up their principles when a democrat is in the white house.

ReplyDeleteMy dear friend Jody.
In the past 20 years I've noticed that some of the biggest brawls LOCALLY (ATL GA) is over DEVELOPMENT IN FLOOD ZONES.
You see Jody - it may be the case that evil greedy Developers seek to purchase land and put developments upon them. HOWEVER you fail to note that the AUTHORITY rests within CITY COUNCIL/COUNTY BOARD and the STATE.
Locally it is ILLEGAL to build on 50 year FLOOD ZONES.
Jody I struggle to understand why you are so averse to making note that ALL OF THE LOWER 9TH WARD IS BELOW SEA LEVEL AND IS A FLOOD ZONE.
Secondly - what is stopping the EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS - the residents from taking a GPS to the house that they want and noting the ELEVATION - just as I did????!!!!!
Look at this graphic here Jody:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:New_Orleans_Elevations.jpg
Would YOU allow a loved one to live at Wainright at LC Simon EVEN IF they won a "home makeover" which built them a mansion?
At what point, Jody, do you ask ALL EQUAL HUMAN BEINGS involved in the process to ASK QUESTIONS and make choices regarding the RISKS?
What do you say to people who are pushing for "the Right Of Return" into the FLOOD ZONE? (They learned that talking point from the Palestinians vs Zionist battle that they marched in support of the year prior).
In tackling health care, and if it eventually morphs into a single payer system, he'll have done more for our country than anyone since LBJ (Kennedy).
ReplyDeleteBennett you are truly "strange fruit".
You say "FOR our country"
I say "TO our country" as in counting down the days.
You claim that you are an elected official. Let's look at the gaping holes in EVERYONE'S budgets. SCHOOL SYSTEMS are going to see 100 million dollar CUTS. Their dream of having more "fair" funding by going to a state based system should be dashed. THE STATES have $300+ million holes in their EDUCATION budgets.
Why would a rational human being look past these FACTS. Look past the fact that your reference paradise - the UK has debt percentages approaching the insolvency of GREECE and yet STILL CLEAVE TO THEIR IDEOLOGICAL BIGOTRY in saying that "MULTIPLE TAXPAYER PAID HEALTH CARE" is your salvation.
* Social Security is heading for insolvency in 30 years
* Medicare by 2020
* Medicaid's growth is like that of a tumor on the state budgets.
Yet in your BIGOTRY you believe that SNATCHING $16BILLION IN INDUSTRY PROFITS from the Health Care insurance companies will be your fix.
YOU and others need to be called out as LIARS. Your quest for STATIST POWERS has you promising Koolaide for the masses.
And regarding the CBO report - 10 years of TAX COLLECTION for 6 years of BENEFITS. I can make a POSITIVE BALANCE if I were able to sell you my used car today and have you pay on it BUT give you possession of the car for your use next year.
Some of you all WANT to be lied to because it makes you feel better.

CF, being a Coast Guard veteran I am aware of the fact that CG vessels are designed for search and rescue missions (that's pretty much their job) and often the reason for search and rescue is because of hazardous weather conditions (hurricanes, tropical storms etc....)
Duh.
"Steve - I assume that you are talking about BEFORE THE STORM.
1) The highways out were ALREADY congested
2) Some people DID NOT WANT TO GO!!!"
That's why you get ships to transport people who did want to leave to ports like Galveston or Panama City.
There were closed bases like Carswell Air Force Basein Texas Red River Depot, Amarillo Air Force Base and Fort Gillem that could have housed thousands.
We're talking about the people who were dispersed all across the nation. Given housing vouchers to temporarily stay in hotels, Separated from family..
You really don't mind looking like a total imbecile in your endless mission to defend massa, do you?

ReplyDeleteSteve - I am happy that you served this nation and got a chance to date some White girls in the process (as you told us previously).
I won't accept your slight of hand.
YOU SAID CRUISE SHIPS!!!!!!
Not only are these large ships not capable of enduring the lateral stress that a storm would put upon them (did you see that cruise liner a few weeks ago that got slammed by a wave in the Mediterranean?) it is also the case that they are PRIVATE PROPERTY.
If I was "Carnival Cruises" I would take my OLDEST SHIP that I was going to mothball in 3 years and allow the GOVERNMENT to commission it for a mass rescue.
WHEN THE SHIP SPLITS IN TWO after taking a direct hit - my company will get a brand new ship - thanks to Uncle Sam and YOUR STUPIDITY for floating it into the path of a storm.
Steve - are you arguing that a COAST GUARD CUTTER is equipped to handle the more than 25,000 people who assembled in the dome and convention center in New Orleans?
Did you work in the mess hall of the ship?
CLEARLY you had NOTHING to do with LOGISTICS!!!!
Again I ask: What is MAGICAL about a GOVERNMENT VESSEL that is not the case with the EMPTY BACK SEATS of many of the private vehicles that exited New Orleans and LEFT THEIR NEIGHBORS BEHIND?
Jody - WHERE IS THE Civilian Service Corps in which PRIVATE citizens make note of the capacity of their vehicle and their neighbors who need transportation in the event of an emergency?
They could make an iPhone app that matches CARS with 'the Least of These' that need transport away from danger.
Do you lefties need government to coordinate everything?

If serving in the military helped to date white girls you would have signed up on your 17th birthday and served 30 years.
"I won't accept your slight of hand.
YOU SAID CRUISE SHIPS!!!!!!"
Reading is fundamental (and honesty is not a rightwing trait)
What I actually said was:
"Two days before the imminent storm the US Government could have had Naval supply ships and CG cutters in New Orleans to transport stranded citizens to high ground areas.
FEMA could have worked in tandem with cruise ship lines (government would have paid) to house stranded NO citizens temporarily."
The cruise ships could have transported displaced NO residents to other ports as well.
"Steve - are you arguing that a COAST GUARD CUTTER is equipped to handle the more than 25,000 people who assembled in the dome and convention center in New Orleans?"
That's why we have FLEETS.
You send several vessels for what could have been a 48 hour search and rescue mission.
"Did you work in the mess hall of the ship?"
Initially, yes. Then I worked as a deckhand.
I was 19 years old and right out of basic training.
Your point is?
"Then I worked as a deckhand."

Alicia Banks troll... why doncha go over to the Jihad thread to see who curious x troll really is. This oughta be good.
ReplyDelete
That's why we have FLEETS.
ReplyDeleteOK - let me ask the question more specifically:
With 25,000 people to rescue - (and I WON'T EVEN HOLD IT AGAINST YOU THAT THEY DID NOT AGGREGATE IN THE CONVENTION CENTER AND DOME UNTIL AFTER THE STORM HIT!!!)
is it YOUR OPINION that the US Coast Guard has a big enough FLEET stationed upon the Gulf Coast to
1) Be inventoried as to their need
2) Be given orders to STEAM TOWARD NEW ORLEANS 2 days prior to the storm
3) Load up their respective portion of 25,000 people (SOME OF WHOM DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE AND THUS STAYED IN THEIR HOUSES)
4) Depart the Port of New Orleans, going westward upon the Gulf toward Texas
Granted Steve - I am assuming that then Senator Obama is not standing on an oil platform in the Gulf, using his "Super Breath" to blow upon these vessels, making them go 10 times as fast as they are rated to go......all without causing WHIPLASH upon the passengers on the boats that are hanging on like Haitians after an interception at sea.
Steve - did YOU ever personally engage in a high-seas detention of any Cubans or Haitians while you were in the US Coast Guard?
If so did you protest the "racist" policy in which the Cuban was free IF his feet hit the soil while the Haitian was returned REGARDLESS of if he had gotten both shoes on dry land?
Or did you merely "get in where you fit in", never questioning your commands?
"I flip to the second laptop beside my work laptop and come to beat up on Steve."
ReplyDeleteLMAO!!!!
I can always tell when I've got you emotional CF.

Irrelevant questions.
The Bush Administration didn't even try.
You save as many people as you can using all the force and vessels available during that 48 hour period.
The USCG Base New Orleans had helicopter pilots and cutter crews working 16 hour shifts during Katrina.
There is no reason why every Naval and CG unit in the Gulf were not instructed to mobilize any vessel that wasn't currently mission engaged.

Steve wrote "No more than Republican/Conservatives who vote for the GOP with the feeling that they look out for the "real" (white) Americans."
ReplyDeleteWell, that's not saying much. I am not those people, nor do I think that people with skin darker than me should emulate those folks' narrow minded self serving racist leanings, but your premise is fair enough. In a perfect world, there wouldn't be ethnic inequity, but we have what we have and if our President wants to put special emphasis on righting the wrongs of the last 200 years, he has my support. Frankly, I hope he is able to do whatever YOU think he should do to move our country in a better direction, one that provides more opportunities for people of ALL skin shades. I'm not qualified to make that call, but I think it's overdue.
This is not white guilt talking. I grew up in a ethnically diverse Oakland neighborhood during the 60s -70s (Black Panther Era) so I know what it feels like to be hated (unjustly) and attacked because of my (lack of) skin color. I also know the warmth of eating dinner at the home of a friend who lacked nothing in the way of skin color. It all washed out as far as I was concerned. Skin color means nothing about the person. I voted for Barak Obama because he was the best candidate on the ballot, and for reasons stated above, am glad that I did.
I now live in Vermont, the first State to legalize Civil Unions, which was changed this year to legal gay marriage. I know the struggle isn't over for gay couples, but in Vermont it's a fait accompli.

Regarding entitlements, the economy, and our financial mess: things are tough all over, and I imagine they'll get worse before they get better. If I'm not wrong, our health care system is already broken. So far I've yet to see the far right come up with a solution. What's your plan?

If this Arkansas murder tale weren't a true-crime thriller by an established investigative journalist, it would be too crazy, complicated and bizarre to believe. The action grips readers from the beginning, with the death of two teenagers, Don Henry and Kevin Ives, told from the perspective of the train engineers who accidentally ran over the boys' bodies. The 1987 case was originally ruled a double suicide, then an accidentAthe boys supposedly smoked too much marijuana and passed out. But their bodies were suspiciously neatly arranged on the train tracks. The parents, rejecting the official explanations, pushed for a murder investigation. Leveritt tells most of the story through the eyes of Linda Ives, Keith's mother, who pursues the medical examiner, the sheriff, then-governor Bill Clinton, the CIA and everyone else she thinks is blocking or slowing the progress of the investigation. The case remains unsolved, and Leveritt draws no conclusions. She merely fleshes out the context and explores all the leads in all their various directions.

(I hope Obama's CIA is not monitoring Steve because he is done)
So far I've yet to see the far right come up with a solution. What's your plan?
ReplyDeleteANSWER:
Bring Back SLAVERY and make everyone SUBJECTS to THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES!!!!
* Now that people like Filled Negro control their own SCHOOLS - FORCE 10% of the young people that matriculate through the school system INTO THE MEDICAL FIELD.
* Force them to GO TO MEDICAL SCHOOL so that they will learn the skills needed to be MEDICAL SERVICE PROFESSIONALS in their own community
* Force them to work their first 20 years after graduating in their own damned communities - SUPPLYING THE DEMAND FOR MEDICAL SERVICES
* Limit their pay to COST + 10%, making sure that they aren't profiteering
* Have SINGLE PAYER HEALTH CARE FACILITIES.
** Each FACILITY will be forced to live within the budget confines of the FUNDING that the COMMUNITY AROUND IT offers to it via their own ECONOMIC PRODUCTIVITY
** IF the people don't always maintain their consciousness about PRODUCTIVITY of their ACTIONS and ORDERING THEMSELVES AS SUCH then this will show up in the OUTCOMES in their HOSPITALS and other institutions. Such a drive would prompt them to RID THEIR CULTURE of "time wasting" activities and "human to human" communications that are DESTRUCTIVE
Guess what BENNETT - you might not like the word "SLAVERY" but the truth is you support a DISTANT COUSIN to at least some of the elements that I have listed here. The Confiscatory Taxation system that you appear to support will make us all "Wage Slaves". While you indeed may be able to move away from the community in question, thus showing your nominal freedom - the great taxing arm of Uncle Sam will ALWAYS be in reach.
I though Vermonters valued their FREEDOM more than seeking to be subjects?
What happened to you?

Construcive Wingnut,
ReplyDeleteDo you even know what you talking about? Did you actually say that the solution to the problems that plague society is to basically draft people to the fields where manpower is needed, instead of giving people the option of choosing their own field?
Where you chosen for your field this way?
I gonna need you to look up Bloom's Taxonomy and Critical Thinking.
I'm gonna need you to be able to know what you are talking about, comprehend what you are seeing, apply what you have learned to things, analyze items objectively, synthesize data, then evaluate what you have learned.
You're also still painfully uneducated in the political arena, I see.
The frequently touted examples of lazy people and "street pirates" that get flouted around aren't indicative of the entire groups of people who need things like public option health insurance or good well-rounded educations. Calling on the minority or even widespread bad example doesn't negate those who are in genuine need.
You're assuming a slippery slope in which the much-maligned government option is better than private options, but that's somehow worse for everyone. You then back that with a completely unfounded and self-righteous claim that a very small number of Americans would be supporting everyone else.
The rhetoric about individuals who are lazy or don't prioritize their spending is getting old. Yes, you can cite a few examples, but there are people who genuinely need help, and giving them a way to take care of themselves without simply taking a handout won't encourage laziness, it encourages self-sufficiency.
And again, your assertions that President Obama or even the entire Democratic party campaign on "nanny state" promises are dishonest and poorly supported. Making such shallow judgments purely on party lines is closed-minded and counterproductive, not mention just wrong as fuck.
I bet you're a shitty tipper, too.

ReplyDeleteLow & Country and Mellaneous:
I did not say that THIS IS THE SYSTEM THAT I PREFER. (Slavery).
If you'll notice I suggested to my New England buddy that IN MY UNDERSTANDING OF HIS INTENTIONS (and many others on this board) that the IMPOSITION OF SLAVERY would "cut to the chase" regarding what they want from this nation.
THINK ABOUT IT!!!!!
In the context of America - the original SLAVERY had human beings subject to PRIVATE OWNERS. They were "private party".
Print this one out:
I am of the belief that MANY OF YOU would not have a problem is THE STATE were to OWN US CITIZENS in the very same way. (Of course minus the beatings, etc).
Some of you who claim to want FREEDOM honestly want anything BUT!!!!
The conjoined twin of FREEDOM is RESPONSIBILITY for those who make use of their "freedom".
THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT!!!
You want society to GUARANTEE certain entitlements.
Regardless of what a person does per his actions to tunnel BELOW the "Standard of Living" that you all want to guarantee - you in your altruism would drag him out and LIFT HIM UP.
Imagine a person who tries to commit suicide every week. YOU all would dutifully pump her stomach. You value her life more than anything that she can do and thus you save her out of your attempt to express HER value.
Mellanous - WHAT IS SLAVERY? Does it necessitate a beating or rape?
Low & Country - DO YOU THINK that once your plan for Statism takes place and there is a need for more physicians in Omaha and there are too many in NYC that this SINGLE PAYER won't tell people that THEIR JOBS HAVE MOVED and thus they will receive no money from the PAYER if they choose to remain in NYC?
WHY are you offended by the word "SLAVERY" when so many of your ideologically leanings take society down this path EXCEPT that the owner is not PRIVATE?
Those of you who want the "service" of health care - do you really care about the SYSTEM that is put in place to achieve it?
You are in denial if you claim your answer is "YES".
I couldn't help but notice you placed limits on what the doctors serving in the community could make. Are you aware that is not consistent with workings of the free market at least not according to free market ideology.
ReplyDeleteMellaneous - my goal is to place a pay cap on "Defense Attorneys" and whatever job that you are doing.
Since your job is a "national resource" we need a regulate the salary so that we can make sure that there is enough funding to maximize the number of people that can work in the field.
Everyone else on the blog - please post your profession.
We will make sure that you get "cost + 5%" in salary. NO ONE needs the amount of money that you presently make EXCEPT if they have "capitalistic motivations" within them.
We need a National Pay Czar to set the wages. We are going to get EQUALITY by central mandate.

like bouncing a $20.00 check to eat via the winn dixie
shame!!!
amerikkkan justice is ruthless
ie
also in ga
hets practice oral sex and sodomy openly everywhere...ie legendary world renowned strip clubs etc
but only the gay clubs/clubbers are harassed/arrested etc
shame!!!
each set of laws is applied unequally to each set of people deemed lesser...so NONE of us are safe het or gay
HATRED AND OPPRESSION AND CONSITIUTIONAL AMMENDMENTS AND RELIGIOUS HATRED AS LAW ARE CONTAGIOUS!!!
SUPPOSE MUSLIMS PENNED LAWS FOR WOMEN THE WAY HOLY HATING HETS DO FOR GAYS????
ie
hobama has done nothing re the huge
penalty gaps in crack v. cocaine laws even as he funds more crack cages....shame!!!
Dear Atlanta Buddy,
ReplyDeleteI got the sarcasm, and although your ideas are intriguing, I question their accuracy. I felt the first shackles of slavery clamp down when GWB declared himself "the war president". With every "special appropriation" the chains caught more of us, and by the time he had finished raping this once prosperous nation, we were all chained together, headed for the quarry.
As country dug itself deeper and deeper into debt, GWB and his VP (and ALL of their buddies) made hundreds of billions through no-bid contracts and outright fraud. But who's counting, eh?
Now comes Obama, who finds that he has to get down into the mud with the pigs that infest DC in order to stop the bleeding. At every turn he's attacked with obstructionism, lies, twisted facts, and blatant fear mongering by those who would see him fail, at any cost, even if it cost us our future.
If we are headed for slavery, look to your idols, look to the whores of both parties. If our nation fails it won't be the fault of a watered down health care reform bill. History will ultimately lay it at the feet of GWB and his defense contract Oligarchy.
I think I'll hang out here with the aging hippies. They, at least, believe in doing the right thing.
CW, it's not your fault.
ReplyDeleteYou don't know what you don't know.
"Some of you who claim to want FREEDOM honestly want anything BUT!!!!
ReplyDeleteThe conjoined twin of FREEDOM is RESPONSIBILITY for those who make use of their "freedom".
THIS IS NOT WHAT YOU WANT!!!
You want society to GUARANTEE certain entitlements.
Regardless of what a person does per his actions to tunnel BELOW the "Standard of Living" that you all want to guarantee - you in your altruism would drag him out and LIFT HIM UP."
So are you saying that under slavery we had certain entitlements that we don't enjoy now? Such as full employment and free health care? Just trying to see where your head is here.
I already saw where you wrote in a previous thread that Gays were not to be treated equally because of their sexual orientation, so I am just trying to get a better underatanding of you, my conservative friend. Hey, if we are going to try to find common ground, we have to understand each other, right?

Yes, I remember it well Benson. The awful days of the master's whip, the undending toil breaking rocks, until that wonderous day came and the Magicest of Negroes ever, Barack Hussein Obama (Amen), came down from heaven and broke those chains!
"So are you saying that under slavery we had certain entitlements that we don't enjoy now? Such as full employment and free health care? Just trying to see where your head is here."
ReplyDeleteThat's not what CF is saying at all, and you know that. You sure like to play dumb.
Izquierdista estupido!
AB, why do you hide from my comment on the thread "Distractions"? u r a coward. shame!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing new. When I lived in Southern California, I knew to keep my black ass out of Mexico.
ReplyDeleteHell, I knew to stay out of the community adjacent (Hawaiian Gardens, CA) to where I lived (Lakewood, CA).
"until that wonderous day came and the Magicest of Negroes ever, Barack Hussein Obama (Amen), came down from heaven and broke those chains!"
ReplyDeleteReally well said, CF. You took the words right out of my mouth.
CF said;
ReplyDelete"I am of the belief that MANY OF YOU would not have a problem is THE STATE were to OWN US CITIZENS in the very same way. (Of course minus the beatings, etc)."
Come on CF every time I try to give you the benefit of the doubt and try to have a decent discussion you stuff like this.
REALLY CF and where would this belief come from.
Now on the entitlement thing you may have a point I do believe citizens in a country are entitle to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. You're familiar with that idea right.
I agree with the UN charter on Human Rights and think that human beings should all be free from hunger, lack of water, lack of shelter and free from discrimination.
AB that is a good point Obama it would seem could at the very least work to rid ths justice system of the drug laws and sentencing penalties that have long since proven to be unfair and to have a negative long term impact on poorer communities and yes poor black communities in particular.
ReplyDeleteHe really is just another bourgeois politician. All you have to do is watch his feet
Mell, "He really is just another bourgeois politician. All you have to do is watch his feet"
ReplyDeleteYou should read Matthew 7...all of it...and try to live by the words of Christ instead of self-seeking.

The War on Drugs is a problem. A huge one.
ReplyDeleteThere are two things you can do with a problem: solve it, or manage it.
And apparently, too many entities are profitting from the War on Drugs' mere management, as opposed to any effective solutions being applied to it. LEOs make big shows of nabbing the front-end and middle management of the drug trade in exchange for more operating funds, more authority and cooler toys. The prison industry keeps cots warm and the money rolling in with 1st time drug offenders. Drugs like crack-cocaine and heroin keep quite a few of the minority population mentally and physically enslaved, while remaining ripe to be plucked up by those aforementioned LEOs to be fed into the prison industrial complex like chum. The cartels, of course, and most who are linked to them make out like bandits.
Solving the War on Drugs would just upset that entire applecart. Little to no profit to be had.
Legalizing marijuana? It'll only happen when corporate interests become interested in it, with ironclad methods of evading liability if anything undesirable happened. I'm pretty sure legitimate alcoholic beverage producers did more than their fair share of backroom ear-whispering to bring Prohibition to an end.
"Yes, I remember it well Benson. The awful days of the master's whip, the undending toil breaking rocks, until that wonderous day came and the Magicest of Negroes ever, Barack Hussein Obama (Amen), came down from heaven and broke those chains!"
Somehow, you've managed to mock the President and the experience of Black Americans under the travesty that was SLAVERY. And thus you wonder why so many Blacks refuse to give you, others like you and the party you happen to represent (GOP) the time of day. It must be absolutely mindboggling to folks such as yourself.
"Bring Back SLAVERY and make everyone SUBJECTS to THEIR OWN COMMUNITIES!!!!"
Now I know you've lost your fucking mind.

Bennett I Ain't In It:
Why are you trying to "UptownSteve Me"?
You see - IF I were a Republican and a Bush supporter - these words above intended to "shut me up" would work as I attempted to defend "the best president in history".
Instead when I read your words I see YOU seeking to "defend the Best President In The world".
Bennett I Ain't In It:
In your narrative our friend Obama is not ADDING to the economic disaster that we have. Instead he is seeking to RESCUE US.
I struggle to understand how YOU can't see that the:
* Lies
* Twisted Facts
* Blatant Fearmongering
isn't coming from OBAMA?
Was the lady with the cancer shown in Ohio done to show that Obama has more CONCERN for the "Least Of These" than does the evil Insurance companies that raised her evil insurance premiums by 40% OR are you not able to "think ahead"?
Think about it Bennett I Ain't In It......IF every raise of premium by the evil insurance company is PROFITEERING yet the industry profit is $16B among the top 15 companies - how is it that you and Obama can keep on tapping this claim of profiteering?
How does this compare to a $100B increase in government spending by comparison? $16B in PROFIT versus $100B in debt spending. WHICH IS MORE EVIL?
You say that it's not "debt spending"? Today when a person can't pay their increased premium they get dropped from their insurance. BUT Bennett I Ain't In It: WHAT HAPPENS in an "Everyone Must Have Insurance" system OR even a "Multiple Taxpayer Paid Health Care" system when the COSTS exceed the person's capacity?
ANSWER: THE TAX PAYER EATS THE COSTS!!!
But wait Bennett I Ain't In It. In the backdrop of it all we are seeing MASSIVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING CUTS on Education. Many states have a $300M+ hole in their budgets. Students protested in from of the state capital of GA yesterday.
I struggle to understand what palm reader YOU USE but my palm reader says that:
* Social Security
* Medicare
* Medicaid
all of whom are a form of a NATIONAL POT OF MONEY are HEADING TOWARD INSOLVENCY. Now health care is YET ANOTHER POT.
Bennett I Ain't In It: Have you ever put a POT on the stove that was full of water and turned it on HIGH? What happens when the STEAM that clouded everything evaporates away and you merely have the "red meat" left in the pot?
It seems to me that the STEAM turns to SMOKE and that smoke sets off the smoke detector and burns down the house.
YOU said that Obama will be the person who has done FOR America more than anyone sense LBJ.
My consciousness asks about the same period - WHAT ENHANCED COMPETENCIES HAVE BEEN DEVELOPED AT THE PERIPHERY to enable the people to be more COMPETENT at delivering the STANDARD OF LIVING that they desire?
Instead with the increased power at the edge you and others seek CENTRALIZED GOVERNMENT to maintain your desired standard of living.
IF YOU CAN'T SEE THIS then you had better hope that there is a vision entitlement coverage in the plan.

ReplyDeleteFilled Negro:
Let's focus on YOUR favored type of SLAVERY of the FUTURE rather than YOU putting ME on trial about what YOU can molest my words about what you THINK I am saying about the past.
It is clear that the policies that you favor have failed to bring about "full employment". YOUR theories enjoy more popularity than mine among the aggrieved and vulnerable. The "Least Of These".
In your quest for RIGHTS of the worker you held them out of the market in which they "sell their labor" to the point where the CONSUMERS OF LABOR who did not agree to PURCHASE AT THE PRICE THEY WERE DEMANDING chose to vacate the areas where they reside.
In your perversion you blame the BUYERS who departed. Yet if "Shop-N-Bag" were to double their prices and thus lost THEIR consumers causing them to shop elsewhere - your logic holds that the SHOPPERS who left their store void of consumers should be blamed.
WHY do YOU ask me about "FULL EMPLOYMENT" when YOU can't produce it where your ideology is king?
THIS DESPITE the fact that there are EXPRESSED NEEDS in abundance.
You took over the schools yet today they are no more capable of producing the PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PROVIDERS that you need for your community today than when you initiated your STRUGGLE.
Please detail the COMPETENCIES that you have developed? It appears that you mistake ELECTORAL POWER for ENHANCED COMPETENCY.
You see little difference between being made "IN RECEIPT OF" entitlement and "ORGANIC CAPABILITIES" to deliver a desired STANDARD OF LIVING among the people. In fact if someone pushes too far in suggesting that the people should be most accountable for ordering themselves to deliver this standard - YOU are likely among the crowd who reject this as "Pull yourself up by the boostraps" talk.
What about NEO-SLAVERY IN WHICH YOU ARE OWNED BY THE STATE is offensive to you? You have already stripped the masses of their dignity as they believe that in their VOTE while lacking COMPETENCY they are a POWERFUL PEOPLE.
Give the Somali, Honduran or Laotian TWO VOTES EACH in their nation and see if VOTING TWICE AS HARD improves their condition - Filled Negro?
The Defense Lawyer HAS NO CLOTHES. In his quest for "Social Justice" he is actually a CONFIDENCE MAN, leading the masses to run up a bill that is backed by a check with insufficient funds.
But for CAPITALISM those who rally most AGAINST CAPITALISM would suffer the same miserable life like that of a SLAVE, a wage slave OR like the people in Honduras, Laos or Somalia who don't have a SYSTEM which they can leverage.
YOU don't care about SLAVERY. You only care about the PROXIMITY that you are to a SYSTEM which will provide you with entitlement.
Don't ask me about SLAVERY.
Let's inspect YOU.

Maybe the gringos will have enough sense to stay home! For years American college kids have been coming down to Mexico for Spring Break to get drunk, screw anything in sight and act as obnoxious as possible with no consequences while by large the vast majority of Mexicans in this country work hard busting their asses at jobs Americans just won't do yet folks still bitch about them being here, and for what? How many meals are cooked, houses are built and trash cleaned by people who are otherwise seen as unwelcome and treated so? Yet dumb-ass American youth can only brag about going to Mexican cities so they can get "wasted" and act like they own the place? Maybe a few more incidents like this will let them know every vacation spot outside the US is not their pissing ground.
