"Threadjack" me.

*
I wanted to blog about this Scottsboro Boys musical playing on Broadway, (*see pic) and John McWhorter's recent comments about it, but I really don't have time------ I am in the middle of my holiday travels.

Anyway, go ahead and jack this thread. You can comment on that McWhorter article if you like, and you can tell me what you are thankful for this turkey season.

I know what I am thankful for: Folks like you who come to the fields to read what a very opinionated brotha has to say. I learn from each and every one of you, and I always appreciate the company.

Have a happy holiday and don't eat too much. Remember, spring is just around the corner. :)

    FN,

I'm thankful for the new place I have here on Maui that has two bedrooms and two baths so that visitors can be comfortable. I would never have been able to trade up without the real estate bubble being burst.

I'm thankful that Field keeps himself informed and makes his blog interesting every day of the week........

As for Mistrel Shows, I believe it is like that famous line from the Supreme Court Judge who said that "pornography" was difficult to describe in words but he "recognized it when he saw it"

I am thankful I am not flying this year and will not be subjected to a mammogram or pap smear in order to board the plane. Thank you Lord. Amen.

R.J., "I'm thankful for Tom DeLay being found guilty by a jury of his peers earlier today."

Well, there is no way you can be thankful for that because Tom is innocent. You are a racist! Now stuff that in your soul turkey tomorrow.

Thank you Mr. President! BTW, your people have really come up under your leadership. :) There are still a few bad apples but I know that you are working on them.

Glad you are here odo, please stick around.

Happy thanksgiving R.J., and I co-sign about my man Tom. :)

Lola, you are welcome. Now about that car....

Makaii, congrats on the new place. I hope my invitation still stands.

Anon. 10:23 PM, you have got to let it go. It's not as bad as the hype makes it out to be. Believe me on this one. (More to come on that later)

OK, Joe Biden, that was funny.

  11. Happy Thanksgiving Field,

Its the middle of summer here in South Africa and we dont do thanksgiving ... but we'll have drinks on your behalf :P

Yes, the minstrel shows are silly and demeaning and Im not a fan of Tyler Perry's work, but, us black people need to get over ourselves and just start 'being'.
If some black people want to enjoy a spot of coonery - let them; if Tyler Perry wants to depict caricatures of black characters - let him; (Incidentally, my issue with Tyler's work has to do with the poor acting, plots and dialogue, than the actual depictions.)

We need to get above feeling that we are still this oppressed half-formed people who are defined by white people or the media or by actions of other black people or by depictions of black people.

I define myself, as does each black person. Those dancing a jig are defining themselves - let them be.

    Peace

  12. Happy Thanksgiving Ya'll

I read the article by McWhorter. I don't know what his point is. At first he describes the intention of the play to use the Minstrel as a device to emphasize the way whites behaved, then he says most people living now have no idea what a Minstrel show is; so what is the point of defending the plot device, if no one has any knowledge of it?
Then I want to know what Tyler Perry and rappers have to do with the play? It seems the article was a defense of buffoonery instead of a critique of the play.

Happy Thanksgiving Field and others I hope everyone is well and enjoys this break. I hope those who are willing will at least pray for those who will find this a sad and dissapointing time, who will experience lack rather than prosperity.

Let us pray that those who will still be deprived of the basic necessities and desires of life and even peace will find some way to get through.

And let us pray for a day when folks won't experience a lack of lifes basic necessities and when folks won't experience war and injustice.

I remember approx. a year ago, Field was enamored with your view on religion and wanted to visit your church. Has he made it yet? I mean, it's been over a year and Xmas is coming and he probably has some sins that he needs to wash away...like the lie he told about running down Broad ST naked. I am still irritated about being suckered over that. I went out and bought an expensive camera to use for that run. Now I am stuck with an expensive unused camera!

My God, Field. It's 12:40am on Friday and you haven't posted anything new. Not only that, you haven't released the comments from Thanksgiving day. I had planned to do a lot of posting this Thursday and Friday.

Last Thanksgiving you posted Thrs, Fri, Sat and Sun. If I remember right, there were a lot of hits during that time.

I am going to notify Anon, Inc about this shit. You have deprived me of some serious posting.

  24. i am grateful to have what i have. i am grateful to have my friends. i am grateful that most of my family loves me. most of all, i am grateful that some people, at least, are waking up to the fact that today's Democratic party is hardly better than the republicans of Nixon's day, and on several issues, even worse. party identification doesn't guarantee liberalism, and that's apparently a hard lesson for many to learn, but they're learning it.

  26. please pray for millions who cannot find any turkey flavored ramen noodles...

am i the only person who sees the elitist irony in michelle obama battling obesity as her barack/hobama simultaneously ensures that ramen noodles become the staple food item that most poor people feed to their kids???

if most jobless homeless people are starving their kids anyway, is michelle's noble campaign not redundant/moot???

i have not been so offended by the audacity of apathy since ronny raygun sold crack while his anorexic wife nancy simultaneously told crackheads/his client dealers to just say no...

    shame!!!!!!!
