Tuesday in A-merry-ca!

Poor Velma Hart. I know she was tired of defending Obama, so now, at least, maybe the poor lady can finally get some well deserved rest. It Seems that she has been laid off from her veteran services gig. Bummer.

Watch out Obama, if you run against my girl Sarah in 2012 you better check those voting machines. It seems that the Palins are making a dry run. Seriously, Dancing With The Stars? Watch, A-merry-cans will be all glued to the finals when the North Koreans decide to strike us.

This stuff in the Korean Peninsula is getting serious. I sure hope that the funny looking little man with the f*&^%d up haircut and ugly suits doesn't have any nukes. But I digress. Back to the 2012 election: "O" I think Sarah is rounding up her grass roots supporters. You might want to consider doing the same.

Hey, I thought that you folks in the Naaath were supposed to be the enlightened ones? (h/t to Ebony for this article)

"A party for black Harvard and Yale alums at a Boston club this weekend was shut down just after 11pm. Why? The club owner was concerned that a long line of black people outside would make the club look bad.

A group of recent graduates had sold tickets in advance for a party at a new Boston club, Cure, to follow Saturday's Harvard-Yale game. By 10:30pm, though, club management freaked out and claimed it had seen "local gang bangers" around, despite the strict guest-list policy implemented by organizers. At first they demanded that guests show student ID — not exactly practical given the fact that it was a party aimed at alums — and then eventually shut down the entire club.

"We were perceived as a threat because of our skin color," wrote one organizer, Michael Beal, in the email below. "I am further dismayed that after having spent the last few hours with the club owner, I do not believe him to be a racist; which only adds to my consternation around what this event says about race relations in our country."

It echoed a firestorm three years ago, on the other side of the Charles River. In May 2007, called by other students, Harvard University Police asked students at a gathering of black Harvard student organizations on a campus green to show ID. That sparked an independent review and a police restructuring.

Haaavaaad!? Noooo! You mean my man R won't even leave the edu-macated Negroes alone?
Damn! Maybe Skippy Gates was on to something.

Finally, I think the republic will survive the evil TSA men and women:

"ATLANTA – Despite tough talk on the Internet, there was little if any indication of a passenger revolt at many major U.S. airports, with very few people declining the X-ray scan that can peer through their clothes. Those who refuse the machines are subject to a pat-down search that includes the crotch and chest.

Many travelers said that the scans and the pat-down were not much of an inconvenience, and that the stepped-up measures made them feel safer and were, in any case, unavoidable.

"Whatever keeps the country safe, I just don't have a problem with," Leah Martin, 50, of Houston, said as she waited Monday to go through security at the Atlanta airport.

At New York's LaGuardia Airport early Tuesday, Jeannine St. Amand got a pat-down in front of her husband and two children. The 45-year-old from Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, figured she got one because the underwire of her bra tripped the metal detector.

"It's hard to remember all the restrictions. Next time, I'll wear a different bra," she said.

She opted to have the pat-down in public rather than private and said it was professional and done by a female agent." [Article]

Yes, but Ms. St. Amand, you are Canadian, you don't understand privacy.

  1. There isn't a republic worthy of the name if people accept as a matter of course that government agents can look at naked images of them, grope them and threaten them with fines or indefinite detention should they decline or resist.

All there is left is a group of sheep who every four years will mindlessly go to the voting booths to contentedly pick either one group of corporate backed thieves who offer less freedom and more war or another group of corporate backed thieves who offer less freedom and more war.

Grass roots where? You mean the herd of black people who actually came out to vote and made a count difference in support of the first blackish President?

The same blackish President who preferred to sign an executive order to enhance the education for Latino students only? The same blackish president who donated his Nobel peace prize money to benefit mostly Latin and other non-black minority charities?

Let the Latinos vote for him.

I feel his pain, but gee, were they at least wearing belts with their pants? Racial profiling indeed, but what do you expect when there is a certain element of the black population that help give cause to this type ignorance and fear.

"Many travelers said that the scans and the pat-down were not much of an inconvenience, and that the stepped-up measures made them feel safer"

So people and children being molested and zapped radioactively makes them feel that much safer while they are still boarding an aircraft weighing tons of steel and yet somehow defying gravity.

Canada has had pat downs for travelers for years. I even had to go through it and I flew the damned plane. I didn't really mind because in most foreign countries they let members of the opposite sex do the pat downs so I actually looked forward to my Toronto trips. Shhhhh, don't tell the wife. Yo Shady, the days of letting passengers carry guns and no security screenings like in the early 70's are gone. Sorry pal.

Maybe it just says that large groups of young black males afer dark make people nervous. Honestly, given the reputation, is that so irrational? These Ivy league students no doubt are a pretty responsible bunch, but they have a million gang bangers that look like them to live down. Maybe it's not racial bias, but rational experience.

  10. mellaneous11:26 PM

Ahh the old rational experience argument. And the old "what do you expect" argument from LAA who is always looking out for the darker skinned folks of the race.

Well shame on both of you. You gotta read the fine print. There was no indication in the story that in fact young black men who fit the description of ne'er do wells were in attendance at the party or had even tried to get in.

I think the owner made his point and that is he didn't want folks to drive by his club and see a bunch of black folks standing in line. It really didn't matter what they were dressed like, the problem was that potential clientele would maybe perceive that it was a club patronized primarily by blacks and some of "that" crowd that the owner was really trying to attract would be turned off and decide not to check it out.

This isn't all that complicated its a combination of racism and economics. The bad rep that young blacks have gotten despite the misbehavior of the minority had the potential of hurting business.

Unfortunately the country has done a good job of painting all black folks with the same brush so sometimes it can get in the way of making money, as was the case here.

    ReplyDelete
  11. mellaneous11:29 PM

BTW Wilhelm it is racial bias to paint everyone with the same brush. And the truth is there are enough successful blacks that most people see either on TV or in their day to day experience that the stereotype of all young blacks or even the majority of blacks being anything but hard working citizens has to be rendered what is and that is just propaganda.

Gotta agree with Mell, I would hate to be treated some kindof way because somebody who looked like me did something. Hmmm, why don't we feel the same way about them because "they" lynched us and did all kinds of crazy stuff but according to amerikkkan logic why we gotta be bringing up the past? "and yet somehow defying gravity". Uhhhh, we've pretty much got the whole aerodynamics thing figured out so that "somehow" isn't so mysterious anymore but then again in this country most folks think the planet is 6,000 years old amde created by an invisible dad in the sky so I'd better be careful that I'm not burned as a warlock when sista Sarah becomes prez.

  14. "Maybe it just says that large groups of young black males afer dark make people nervous. Honestly, given the reputation, is that so irrational?"

You have the very few fucking things up for the majority of Black folk and a society eager to point at the acts of the very few and claim it's what the majority do. Seeing as many easily frightened Whites use this excuse to keep young black males well away from "finer" events, establishments and residences, I'm inclined to say "Yes, that is irrational".

You have scores of White groups getting shitfaced at bars and clubs and of course, they're not assumed to be the majority -- they're rightfully singled out as shitheads and bounced. So why can't Whites extend that same sort of individualizing courtesy to Blacks?

"I think the owner made his point and that is he didn't want folks to drive by his club and see a bunch of black folks standing in line. It really didn't matter what they were dressed like, the problem was that potential clientele would maybe perceive that it was a club patronized primarily by blacks and some of "that" crowd that the owner was really trying to attract would be turned off and decide not to check it out."

And now the club owner has to deal with the fallout of being perceived as somewhat racist. That's gotta put a slight dent in both his pocketbook and his reputation. At least Blacks won't try to patronize the club in large groups, if they bother to ever patronize it again, that is.

This President's behavior toward Blacks has been one of avoidance and neglect. Imagine that... 97% of the Black race voted for him and he doesn't even offer a bone.

To add more insult to injury, Blacks like Field and a host of so-called Field Negroes continue to support him. That says a lot about the psyche and self-worth of the majority of Black Americans...it's very low, hopelessly low.

I wonder where his Black American wife thinks about this? I haven't noticed much from her, either.

Of course, when you both are Harvard grads, you are on the level of Skippy Gates, which means you probably think and feel about about most Blacks outside of Harvard and Yale--ZERO. Of course, when you are desperate, you will always default to Blacks because you are in crisis and DESPERATE.

LAA, you and FP have remained conspicuously QUIET about the First Lady's non-actions. Why? Don't you think that in her position she could be doing A LOT in turning things around in the black community, esp. for bw?

Dude have you ever watched a police drama on TV or how bout a cop movie drama. Blacks are constantly stereotyped to this day in these shows. Watch Law and Order for starters.

But you don't stereotype so obviously and thankfully you get my point.

Anon you are on point with your observation only its not so much Field. Field usually points out O mans shortcomings toward blacks he just tries to look at the job that he does on behalf of the ruling class from the perspective of the rulers rather than the workers.

Its not popular to point O'mans obvious discarding of black concerns on this site. Lots of folks will come at you with the thing about havin too high expectations for the prez, or he can't be the president of or for black people, or he hasn't had enough time (to at least say that discrimination shouldn't exist and that all children should get access to quality public education, etc)

NOpe that would be too much to ask according to many of our friends. I am glad that some others show to tell the truth from time to time.

While the prez does have some more work to do allowing an R into the WH is simply not an option. Let's face it, he can't do much for Black folks until his second term cause be honest, if he did a bunch of stuff for Black folks Rush and Sean would be yelling racism from the highest of rooftops and the uneducated dimwits in this country would be following their lead in lockstep. ABC got caught doing a political spot for Sarey and it didn't go as planned. Recall the massive boo from the audience when they realized Sarey was blessing them with her presence.
Bristol is old enough to die in Afghanistan/Iraq. It's time to stop calling her a girl and expect adult behaviours.
    As far as thrilling to the call of the MILF...sorry, I am not that old (John McCain).     Back on topic;

Every person of color is familiar with the experience of reaching "critical color mass" in a public environment. You have seen this show before I am sure; a bunch of brown shows up at a club, park or other setting and the white evaporates into thin air.

While some of our fairer-skinned friends blame cultural differences for this ("you colored folks are so LOUD and ROWDY")I blame media for a large part of it. They have created a consumer culture where the public is so dumbed down they will literally buy anything they are being sold on teevee. So whatever image they see see a lot of will stick. The Tea Party was a creation of right-wing media funded by the Koch Bros. and other rich wingnuts to give the appearance of an actual grassroots organization. I'm sorry to tell you this but if you believe that anyone besides millionaires will gain anything from the Republican-led House, then you are dumb as your writing skills would seem to indicate.

a recent report showing CANADANS outraged about patdowns also:
OTTAWA - Bras were revealed, artificial joints probed and flesh squeezed, prompting scores of complaints last year from disgruntled Canadians subjected to physical searches at airports across the country.
Records obtained by The Canadian Press show the furor over intrusive screening patdowns is not limited to the United States, where angry travellers have openly objected to new security measures.
A 56-year-old woman travelling with her husband through Calgary in June 2009 objected to the thorough physical search a female screening officer gave her in front of other passengers.
"I have no doubt the woman knows my cup size and the size of my underwear," she wrote.
"She felt my body from top to bottom, running her fingers along the underwire of my bra and feeling my breasts, all in full view of every passenger and employee in the area. And she seemed to take great delight in doing so.
"It was degrading, embarrassing and humiliating."
A man en route to Ottawa early one morning wrote that he'd "never been so humiliated" by his search, which included a check of his collar, belt, waistband, "up and down my legs, my butt and my chest and back."
A woman screened at the Regina airport in October 2009 complained of being "mortified by the unexpected exposure of my body."
"I was informed that I would be 'patted down' and the agent then proceeded to lift my shirt up to the bottom of my bra without warning, exposing my stomach, and bottom of my breasts."
A screener at the Montreal airport examined the prosthesis in a man's left shoe. "But the girl then ran her wand over the stump of my foot — when it was blatantly obvious that something was missing, and no foreign object could be present!"
The complaints were among 1,520 received in 2009-10 by the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority from passengers annoyed about searches, rude behaviour, confiscation of items, the introduction of full-body scanners and other issues.

Mack Lying-"Really? I was wondering how they managed to get Alaskan trout to walk on its fins, let alone squeezed into a dress."

This was an insulting statement. You are an ass. Bristol doesn't deserve such bs heaped on her by you. Just 'who' do you think you are?

UTS said: "Were it not for their mama being the media flavor of the month, Bristol and Willow Palin would be looking forward to distinguished careers as Wal-Mart cashiers."

The really amazing part about this is the Palins are supported by the same people that make a big stink about "handouts" and "merit", in the context of minorities being favored over whites in job applications. They also speak of "work ethic" and "dedication to duty", yet support a community college dropout that quit as governor to cash in on being the most famous airhead in politics since Dan Quayle.

anon6:01p probably has no family that cares about him/her. What else can you do except to be angry and call people names that he/she was called at home? How sad.

No. Anon 5:52 is Black. What difference does it make? You are still angry and without family, as Anon 6:23p said. And Bristol is still sexy, beautiful, and talented.

Bristol is pregnant. Why is she the only dancer that did not lose weight? The girl is very big in the middle and that's a pregnant belly. So long to her abstinence campaign.

I just can't see a 19/20 year old woman doing all of that dancing and not losing any weight. Check out this picture!

  60. Two years ago, I had a pat down for the same reason Ms. Amand rec'd one, underwire bra. Anyway, it was super uncomfortable and the agent, a nice woman, kept apologizing. They were rare then. I was used to the wand scanner because I've had both hips replace but I'd never been thoroughly patted down. I don't want to do it again. I don't want to go through a scanner either. The whole thing seems over-the-top and a waste of taxpayer money. It's probably cheaper to put a marshall on every plane than install these machines. Well, maybe.
