"The first cut is the deepest."

"Society exists only as a mental concept; in the real world there are only individuals.”

Reading that quote from Oscar Wilde has me thinking about our newly elected wingnut friends in Washington.

They said they were going to cut 100 billion large ones from the current budget when the got to Washington, but now that they are there reality seems to be getting in the way.

Paul Ryan and company will soon find out that running the government isn't like running Mom's Diner on Main Street. Alll of a sudden those cuts that they promised to make when they got to Washington aren't looking so easy to make. I wonder why?
But, not to worry, I am sure that they will give it the old college try.

They will cut education. (Sorry folks, if you have a special needs child, they are on their own.) That will be an easy cut for them. Who cares about educating a bunch of urban kids with our hard earned money? Certainly not some folks in Washington:

"According to news reports, American Crossroads, a Karl Rove run special interest-funded shadowy outside group, is running ads defending House Republicans' plan that will cost jobs, cut education funding, and make America less competitive. In 2010, American Crossroads was responsible for $40 million of secret spending from “wealthy Republicans and corporate interests” according to the Wall Street Journal. " [Source]

They will cut social security benefits. Yes, even if you have been working all of your life and paid your taxes like a good citizen is supposed to. If you can't work until your eye- sight and your hearing goes forget about it.

College loans for low income students? Gone. Medical research to cure diseases like cancer? Gone. Highway and bridge repairs? Forget about it. Get used to those potholes, folks.

"Endless borrowing is not a strategy," Ryan said in a press release. "House Republicans will continue to build upon this down payment, working to restrain the explosive growth of government and to help restart America's engine of economic growth and job creation."

"Restart"? Oh, that's right; it stopped right around 2001.

We're all going to be left to either terminal cancer or death by bridge collapse, because one branch of government wants to get serious about fiscal responsibility.

Do you tell that one around the campfire?

"Endless borrowing is not a strategy," Ryan said in a press release. "House Republicans will continue to build upon this down payment, working to restrain the explosive growth of government and to help restart America's engine of economic growth and job creation."

    Field,

We've seen this before starting with that crack dealer Reagan. The Republicans blow up the debt.
Look at what the Bushies and Reagan did. And Reagan said who cares about debt spending, that mass murderer Cheney said it also.
When Democrats gain power, The Republicans become SO concerned about the debt. Then they propose cuts, that effects The Poor, and Middle Class, never The Rich.
The Republicans play the same game over and over and people keep falling for it.

Geez FN. I thought you were at least a little better then this. This is pure finger pointing blame shucking partisan immature drivel. Not one thing is mentioned about where we are and what will happen if we dont do something fast.

If cutting out the middleman lowers the price, why are we paying the government to stand between us and the markets?

How exactly does dependency on the government increase "people power"?

Why is there never a headline that says "Government program ends as its intended goal has been achieved"?

OK, I get the part about taking it for the team and accepting spending cuts but that's only one side of the equation. When the hell do the well to do do their part and accept higher taxes? The government needs money to exist and we can't keep cutting there has to be some revenue. I still say we as citizens ban together and force these coroporations to build and create jobs right here in the good old U.S. of A. We can do this people. If Egyptians can ban together to control their destinies I'm sure we can. No more buying from companies that outsource, period. Look for the made in the U.S.A. lable. And pay your damned taxes;-)

Why do advocates for higher taxes have accountants advising them how they can pay smaller taxes? Wouldn't you expect them instead to seek advice on how to give away more of their income to the IRS? Or at least not to hire accountants at all?

Can you name one person who paid the IRS more than he owed because he trusted the government to put his money to good use?

Why do those who object to tampering with the environment approve of tampering with the economy? Isn't the economy also a fragile ecosystem where a sudden change can trigger a devastating chain reaction?

Isn't the latest economic crisis such a chain reaction?

Aren't most of today's social ills the result of tampering with social ecosystems?

The Whites will have no problem because they know how to parent their children and can teach their kids how to read, write and count. But black parents don't seem to care about their children. So, if education is cut, it won't matter because most don't go to school anyway. and those who do, most don't graduate. So, what's the problem?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Of our total national education bill, the amount paid by Washington is 7%.

The states provide the other 93%. Thus, if federal education spending is cut, the school systems will hardly notice

As SPC pointed out, the Wingnuts are only 1/2 of 1/3 of the Government. They could propose to colonize the center of the Earth in search of Magma-Men and quicker route to Beijing. With Obama's support and sign off, their victories would simply be symbolic.

    FN folks, FYI from Israel:

"JERUSALEM — President Barack Obama's response to the crisis in Egypt is drawing fierce criticism in Israel, where many view the U.S. leader as a political naif whose pressure on a stalwart ally to hand over power is liable to backfire.

Critics – including senior Israeli officials who have shied from saying so publicly – maintain Obama is repeating the same mistakes of predecessors whose calls for human rights and democracy in the Middle East have often backfired by bringing anti-West regimes to power.

Israeli officials, while refraining from open criticism of Obama, have made no secret of their view that shunning Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and pushing for swift elections in Egypt could bring unintended results.

"I don't think the Americans understand yet the disaster they have pushed the Middle East into," said lawmaker Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, who until recently was a Cabinet minister and who is a longtime friend of Mubarak.

"If there are elections like the Americans want, I wouldn't be surprised if the Muslim Brotherhood didn't win a majority, it would win half of the seats in parliament," he told Army Radio. "It will be a new Middle East, extremist radical Islam.""

As you folks can see, ie. those of you who can read, The USA is making another huge mistake in the Middle East.

Field, you just don't get it and no_slappz has been right all along. You and Obama would do well to listen to no_slappz. But alas! you folks are just too proud to face reality. How sad.

  26. no one has done more to destroy public ed than hobama
and it is really hard to home school in a homeless shelter…

When it comes to the public schools, the Obama administration is allied with the most rapacious sectors of Wall Street and far-right foundations. That political reality is most evident in the administration's campaign to establish a parallel national network of charter schools, with a heavy emphasis on inner cities. Obama and his education chief, Arne Duncan, have spent their first year and a half in office coercing states to expand charters or lose out on more than $4 billion [9] in federal education moneys. Obama's allies on Wall Street invest heavily in charter schools, tapping into the public money stream to build their own vision of corporate education [10].
Historically, Wall Street is to Democrats what Big Oil is to Republicans. Hedge funds and bankers have become the Sugar Daddies of charter schools, using their clout with big city Democrats to give charters every advantage over conventional public schools.
Rightwing foundations have become so emboldened in their privatizing campaigns, they are attempting to swallow whole the entire school district of Washington, DC. Four foundations, led by the Wal-Mart owners' Walton Family Foundation, have offered DC almost $65 million to help fund the public schools - with plenty of strings attached. In addition to dropping important seniority system protections for teachers, the foundations demand that the city and school administration remain intact, or they'll take their money back. That means, if Adrian Fenty, the corporatist Black mayor of DC, fails to win re-election this year, or his union-hating schools chancellor Michelle Rhee, loses her job, the Walton Family and the rest of the foundations think they can pick up their millions and leave DC to find some other way of paying for the schools

Actually, that's no more outrageous than President Obama making states jump through charter school hoops to get a piece of his $4 billion "Race to the Top" prize. Obama is also a bully and an extortionist, in league with the Wal-Mart family's foundation and the bankers and hedge funds on Wall Street

as a former catholic, i love this story. and i think the wording from the bishop SO humorous! he's careful to say it was with an "adult" but did not involve "the sex act," as if there's but one. and the mighty shall be laid low...

Exorcist priest admits to 'violations of chastity' with woman under his 'spiritual care'

Thomas Euteneuer, a Catholic priest and exorcist who abruptly left a high-profile post in August, has confessed to "violations of chastity."

Euteneuer said his actions involved "one person only, an adult woman under my spiritual care" and "did not involve the sexual act."

In a memo to all priests of the Palm Beach Diocese, to which Euteneuer is assigned, Bishop Gerald Barbarito wrote Tuesday, "Father Euteneuer has been undergoing intensive evaluation and counseling to address admitted inappropriate crossing of adult heterosexual boundaries on the occasion of carrying out his priestly ministry I truly regret and apologize for the hurt and harm which his actions have caused."

Since 1999, when he fought a Fort Pierce abortion clinic, Euteneuer established himself as a fearless champion of the pro-life movement. In 2007, he famously told Fox News commentator Sean Hannity that he would refuse him communion because of his lax position on birth control.

"I'm sure this is going to create a firestorm," said John Henry Westen, editor of LifeSiteNews, a pro-life news website that published Euteneuer's statement on Tuesday. "And I think Father Tom knows that too."

What we have been saying over and over again, is that President Obama should use the elegant rhetoric that got him elected President, to honestly explain to America how the disparity between rich and power in our country is now equal to Great Depression era levels and how one percent of the population controls 40 percent of the wealth while the rich are demanding more! But I guess the best we can do is allow President Obama to waste away his Presidency by continuing to be the night watchmen of the plutocrats who sank The United State’s of America into the icy sea, while they speed off ( with all the money) aboard a luxurious yacht purchased from The United State’s Treasury.

X: Take a look at this chart:

    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2011/01/028257.php

and tell me how the well to do aren't paying their part?

As it is now, about half of all wage earners are paying no income tax at all. As not everyone works, that means that today only a minority of Americans actually pay income tax.

Is that a good situation? If a majority are not vested in the system, they no longer have an interest in whether or not money is spend wisely. They no longer care if tax rates go up, because that just means more for them. How long before that spirals out of control?

We have a progressive income tax system. Because of deductions and earned income tax credits,it is much more progressive than it appears at first glance.

Shouldn't everyone pay at least something? Shouldn't everyone have a stake in this venture? The "rich" should pay more, because they have reaped the most benefits form the system, but this nonsense talk about "tax cuts for the rich" is based on a profound ignorance of the facts.

  36. Mold, I'll take rational analysis over rambling incoherency any day. If you followed the link you’d have seen an analysis based on real data.

The Bush Tax cuts actually made the US Tax code MORE progressive:

“There is a perception that the Bush income tax cuts were a massive gift to the wealthy. Well, that's kind of true. But along with that perception seems to come the notion that they were massively regressive, benefiting the wealthy at the expense of the middle-class and poor. That's just not true.
The Bush tax cuts were ultimately a massive gift (generally I object to the notion that the government letting you keep more of your own money is a "gift," but I am using this sadly popular phraseology here for illustration) to everyone who pays taxes--the wealthy receiving a bit less than the middle-class, actually. A big part of the misunderstanding comes from a hard-to-kill confusion about marginal vs. total tax rates. A bigger part comes from something even simpler, only looking at what happened to the tax rates on the high earners and not even doing a comparison. Warning, there will be math in this op-ed”

Worth the read if you truly want to understand the actual effects of the Bush tax cuts.

Liberal Saul Alinsky tactic number 1. Don't discuss facts, attempt to discredit the source.

Surely you as a goverment paid employee know that the highest percentage of taxes is paid for by the highest percentage of people who EARNED the money.

Surely you also know that your old racist myth of whites inheriting all their wealth is also another excuse for those underachievers like yourself. 95 of Millionares are first generation, self made.

Any other excuses you want to make for your life? Why are you so jealous of what others have accomplished and then you have the balls to demand they fund your lifestyle, Why dont YOU create some wealth instead of leeching off everyone and demanding they pay for your weaknesses and shortcomings?

    what a wonderful kid.

millions of wonderful kids have superb gay parents.
Superior parents are superior humans. They exude unconditional love and uncompromising character. They nurture without hatred, bigotry, and sexism. They feed, clothe, shelter, and educate. These qualities are the ONLY things that matter to any child; especially one orphaned by allegedly heterosexual parents.

Being a superior parent has NOTHING to do with sexual orientation!!! Some of the world’s greatest persons were reared by single women. Many of these women are lesbians.

Homosexuals are uniquely qualified to be superior parents. Many are FAR more educated and financially stable than the illiterate and unemployed heterosexuals who dare to bash them. Many homosexual men are not bound by the sexist and macho madness that destroys boys and girls daily. Being truly in touch with their femininity, homosexual fathers hug as warmly as any mom. What maniacally macho, heterosexual morons consider “mushy”, homosexual dads consider human. Their sons become more human because of this superior perception. Their daughters become appreciative of men who can be humane rather than macho caricatures of real men.

Likewise, many lesbian moms can play ball as well as they can bake. We teach our daughters to avoid sexism in academia as expertly as we teach them to avoid date rape. We know that no gender mandates weakness, nor has any monopoly on strength. Our sons learn to see women as people not weak toys.

The gaybashing fools who claim that they are better parents are often abusive to their children. They are too selfish to ever adopt anyone. They are dysfunctional, bigoted, sexist, eurocentric, white supremacist, and psychotic. Fortunately, few of them would ever qualify as adoptive parents as many homosexuals do. Many of them are deadbeat dads who do not even pay child support. Many of their own children are homeless and in need of adoption. Many of them sexually abuse the children they guard so vigilantly against homosexuals. 99% of pedophiles are gaybashing heterosexual men who molest their own daughters and nieces.

What maniacally macho, heterosexual morons consider “mushy”, homosexual dads consider human. Their sons become more human because of this superior perception. Their daughters become appreciative of men who can be humane rather than macho caricatures of real men....Likewise, many lesbian moms can play ball as well as they can bake. We teach our daughters to avoid sexism in academia as expertly as we teach them to avoid date rape. We know that no gender mandates weakness, nor has any monopoly on strength. Our sons learn to see women as people not weak toys. "

AB: Way to champion the postive attributes of the minority by repeating derisive, bigoted, hateful, cartoonish stereotypes of the majority.

    That's how you promote tolerance!

To Republicans, "fiscal responsibility" means defunding nearly anything that benefits the working class and poor, while funnelling the proceeds to "more deserving" individuals and entities such as industrialists, multi-national corporations and Wall Street barons.

Notice how they're not worried about Social Security, education or transportation infrastructure. It's because they plan to privatize each and every one of these functions. It's the wave of the future!

Social Security is replaced with private pensions and stock shares. Public schools are supplanted by charter schools and homeschooling*. Interstates and other highways are replaced with private toll roads. The responsibilities that government had are transferred to a select number of private concerns beholden only to their shareholders. Sounds quaint until you realize that the concept of "one man, one vote" doesn't exactly apply. Whoever holds the most shares holds the most power.

*Homeschooling is not inherently bad, it's just that most people are ill-equipped to pull it off successfully.

Forbes is known to be rather...umm...less than exacting when it comes to tax policies. The author is a hedge fund manager who might want to sell you some 'derivatives' along with lowering his taxes to less percentage than what you pay on your working-class wage. It is also funny that he claims 'savings' were gargantuan from the bush cuts for those under 200K. It's the old average dodge. You know, Bill Gates walks into a bar and the average income/savings/etc is in the billions. Oh, what is the median? 100% savings on the lower income would be, what, about 2K? 10% on the wealthy (from the handy and deliberately misleading graph) would be 100K? And why does the graph end? Seems that hedge fund dude doesn't like what goes beyond 1M.

  58. @Mold: Since facts seem to make your spin (more than usual), perhaps this story can show you How Taxes Work:

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner. The bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men — the poorest — would pay nothing; the fifth would pay $1, the sixth would pay $3, the seventh $7, the eighth $12, the ninth $18, and the tenth man — the richest — would pay $59.

That's what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement — until one day, the owner threw them a curve (in tax language a tax cut).

"Since you are all such good customers," he said, "I'm going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20." So now dinner for the ten only cost $80.00.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes. So the first four men were unaffected. They would still eat for free. But what about the other six — the paying customers? How could they divvy up the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his "fair share?"

The six men realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody's share, Then the fifth man and the sixth man would end up being PAID to eat their meal. So the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man's bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

And so the fifth man paid nothing, the sixth pitched in $2, the seventh paid $5, the eighth paid $9, the ninth paid $12, leaving the tenth man with a bill of $52 instead of his earlier $59. Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free.

But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. "I only got a dollar out of the $20," declared the sixth man who pointed to the tenth. "But he got $7!"

"Yeah, that's right," exclaimed the fifth man, "I only saved a dollar, too . . . It's unfair that he got seven times more than me!"

"That's true!" shouted the seventh man, "why should he get $7 back when I got only $2? The wealthy get all the breaks!"

"Wait a minute," yelled the first four men in unison, "We didn't get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!"

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night he didn't show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered, a little late what was very important. They were FIFTY-TWO DOLLARS short of paying the bill! Imagine that!

Field did you notice the right wing Isreali response to the struggle for democratic rights and jobs and a fairer divide of the economic pie in Egypt?

There take is, to hell with the average Egyptian, we think we are better served having a dictator that serves our interests and the US's interests.

And then anon had the nerve to say that he and the Zionist racist were correct in their analysis of the Egyptian situation.

They are as about as wrong and backwards as two left feet. All of the news coming out of Egypt has made it obvious that this is a working class movement, a people movement stemming from the very needs of the people and not any conservative or right wing fundamentalist Islamists.

What the narrow nationalists are doing is engaging in wishful thinking, as well as just outright lying.

It would fit the US and Israeli interests to pretend that this is a Islam inspired revolt rather than a real fight for a just and democratic gov't.

And imagine the selfishness of the position that says, 'we don't really want to support the average Egyptian because we are afraid you may have real democracy which wouldn't support our interests.'

AB you nailed Obama and the attempt to privatize public education. There is no denying that his policies are enabling the charter movement which has not proven itself but has served to undermine teacher qualifications and unionization.

    AB said:

Four foundations, led by the Wal-Mart owners' Walton Family Foundation, have offered DC almost $65 million to help fund the public schools - with plenty of strings attached..."

Field you are right about social security but both parties of the ruling rich are aiming for it make no mistake.

They haven't yet figured out a way to con the usually gullible American working class to give up their most important entitlement.

And of course the folks who will push for its restructuring will be the folks who don't need it.

    And Field you are right Ryan proved he was just fooling when this part of his plan was revealed;

"The proposal would decrease domestic spending by $43 billion from last year's budget. But it also allows for increases, including an $8-billion hike in funding for defense, homeland security and veteran programs over last year's levels."

Really, they are going to increase defense spending which any and everybody knows is bloated with a lot of excess, thievery, and a lot of weaponry thats not needed.

They are going to decrease domestic spending but increase defense and where do they think that money will come from.

And imagine they actually get regular folks who gain nothing from this perspective but hard times, to actually vote against their own best interest!

And the Right Reverend should know that the good Lord cares about ALL of his people.

Most pseudo-christians have never read/understood the bibles that they use exclusively as primers for hatred. Likewise, they have never researched sexuality or owned a library card. If they ever become educated, they will discover the following.

-Human sexuality is not black or white. There are droves of gray areas. All human males begin as females in the womb. Many humans are born with male genitalia and female internal organs, and vice versa. Many humans reach puberty or have menstrual periods before age six. Many humans are born with ambiguous or dual genitalia. (Research pediatric surgery, hypothalamus gland studies, precocious puberty, homosexuality in siblings, hermaphrodites, sexual arousal etc.)

-The film “Jurassic Park” is based on ACTUAL scientific study. Millions of viewers missed the actual bisexual frog used to clone all those female dinosaurs. These exclusively female dinosaurs bred.

-Many animals can change their sex at will. Many animals are bisexual. Many male animals become pregnant. Many animals have multiple sex organs. When such animals mate, both parties are impregnated simultaneously. (Research oysters, frogs, sea lions, cardinal fish, sea horses, river bullhead fish, mouth brooder fish, angler fish, lyre-tail coral fish, ten-spiked stickleback fish, orange sea perch, slipper limpets, roman snails, banana slugs, ravens, emperor penguins etc.)

-Many animals are homosexual. Many homosexually mate for life. (Research dolphins, monkeys, pigeons, dogs, cats, graylag geese, pink flamingoes etc.)

-There are many all female animal societies. Many of them reproduce females exclusively, by parthenogenesis. Many of them have sex for pleasure with fellow females. Many animals strictly segregate themselves by gender. (Research desert grasstail lizards, lions, whiptail lizards, water snails, rare birds, elephants, bees, ants, and spiders etc.)

-There are even homosexual plants. (Research Jack-in-the-Pulpit etc.)

On the one hand, as I attempted to say, most of Obama’s Black critics seem to be coming from the grassroots as much of the academic establishment is in his camp. What I see increasingly among the Black working class and non-professional intellectuals is a tiring of Obama. Those 90% numbers may be more the result of survey myopia or the trickery of polling. Perhaps not many Black people are willing to publicly critique Obama or they are simply responding to the phrasing of questions. If asked who would they prefer, Obama or the White republican, what else would they say? Recently, for example, Al Jazeera found a number of everyday Black folks who are through with the president, several of whom were shown calling into the Chicago-based Salim Muwakkil radio show. Is it possible that those Black residents would know a thing or two about the man who we are told did community organizing in their city?

Reed also argued that my position came from the old failures exposed by Harold Cruse and suggested that our liberation struggle has been hampered by Black radical thought. I suggested that probably COINTELPRO, assassinations and mass imprisonment might have more to do with it. But I am more concerned with any tendency among those of our brightest minds who think that radical positions are the problem. Reed said we have had “50 years to build a movement” and have not. But unless his movement was to have us all support another Wall Street Ronald Reagan Democrat those same 50 years have been wasted.
The real dilemma though is placing Black radical politics. If Black radicalism is seen as hindering progress what precisely are we “progressing” toward?

The prosperity gospel folks disagree, the haters of women, homosexuals, immigrants and people of color disagree with me.

AB and no_slappz you are right about Obama. And Mell, it is clear that you don't know what you are taking about. Of course, Mell is usually wrong anyway.

Mr. Field, here is your chance to stay loyal to the Israelis even when your idol Obama is NOT.:)

The Christians who somehow think its right to discriminate and think that its normal to live in a society that has ghettos; also disagree with me.

The Christians who think that someone else is responsible or must be forced to take care of those who will not take care of themselves in the Ghettos are not Christians.

The Christians who think that its okay to have a system that educates some children and not all children disagree with me.

The Christians who recieve a bounty of food but then waste it and throw it away by not teaching and guiding children are evil. Just like those who waste all the educational opportunities in the US, blame results on someone else and then demand others give more money.

The Christians who believe that its somehow wrong for governments to provide health care for all its citizens also disagree with me.

The Christians who think that forcing someone else to give up what they have earned to pay for those who do not even try is evil.

The Christians who somehow believe that God has ordained the US as God's representative on earth also disagree with me.

The Christian minister who thinks that God is a savage warlord pedophile who literally teaches that all infidels be killed is someone to defend because he is racist and doesnt like white people is evil and stupid.

The Christians who believe that God has made women to be second class also disagree with me.

YOur confusing religions. ALL religions thought this previously. This was the way of the world. Only one remains that literally destroys womans lives and that is your favorite. Islam.

The prosperity gospel folks disagree, the haters of women, homosexuals, immigrants and people of color disagree with me.

People who have created something have faith in you and know that if you wanted to, you could as well, They want you to fish and not just take fish. Immigrants are loved, its the illegal law breakers that raid your home that are not appreciated. People of color...get off your damn crutches, its not your skin that is disgusting. Its your being a FAKE man of god with no morals at all.

The list is long and goes on so get in line, but it doesn't change the fact that you hate me because I see God as just and loving while your view of God is one of retribution, xenophobia, narrowness, patriarchal, and hateful.

God is just and loving, but just and loving doesnt mean anything you like with no consideration for anyone else. How can you steal from one to give to another, who made you GOD?

Lets ask a casual observer which attributes better suite God.

I spoke to God this morning, He said your mail in certificate has expired and he doesnt like you. Your a phony race baiter .

  90. "Mack, what future? This was The Bad Old Days. I am old enough to know some of it...and it bleeped. Even funner, the Fundies, Evangelicals, and Stoopids beleeverate they will be on top. Well, only if we have the days of JimCrow. Otherwise, these Darwin Award perpetual finalists will be very unhappy."

They always do. And they never are. But that's the beauty of conning these individuals. Just as long as they have these delusions of grandeur, they'll say and do anything you want them to.

Lovely parable, but highly unrealistic in today's times.

The tenth man eats for free -- either he owns the establishment or he helped the owner get it licensed and the health department paid off, so his meals are gratis. The first four men wouldn't even be let in the door. Which leaves men five through nine enjoying their meal -- and holding the check. The ninth man will try to skip out on the check but end up getting caught and sent into the back to wash dishes.

  91. @Mack: You can cling to your misconceptions, or you could make an honest attempt to incorporate inconvenient facts into your world view.

Looks like you're still a bitter clinger.

Here's a beautiful (long but worth the time) essay by Wallace Shawn that gets to the heart of the matter.

Wow, Rev you have really bought the GOP line. If you look at taxes as a total amount of income poor people pay the same percentage as the wealthy. Sure they pay no IMCOME tax but what are the other taxes they pay? I'll wait for you to do some research. What was the country's economic status when the highest income rate was 91%? Sure the wealthy should pay more in taxes because they use more resources. @ anon that wondered if tampering with the economy might do damage to it, it might ask Paul Ryan if he thinks so. Bad analogy. Then again maybe some tampering might make things better.

The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they are ignorant, but that they know so much that is not so. RR
