It's tough on Sundays these days for a red blooded A-merry-can sports fan. Right now I am typing as a dreadful up and down the court spectacle known as the NBA All Star game is taking place. Today they played an NHL game outdoors and the ice was so hard that those cats could barely move on their skates. It was ugly. NASCAR? No offense to my friends down in Dixie, but if I want to watch a bunch of cars go around and around in circles I would just as soon stand outside of City Hall here in Philly.
So anyway, I could do some racism chasing tonight, but I will leave Big R alone for now. (Noose in the workplace? So what else is new? Just another day at work for black folks here in A-merry-ca. h/t Nordette.)
So let's talk breasts. Get your mind out of the gutter, I am not talking about breasts in a sexual way; I want to talk about them as they relate to nutrition. Seems that there is a dust up between our First Lady and wingnuts over whether "the breast is best":
"Ms. Bachmann lashed out at the campaign on Tuesday on Laura Ingraham’s radio show, saying that it reflected a “hard left” position that “government is the answer to everything.”
While noting that she had breast-fed the five children she gave birth to, Ms. Bachmann said, “To think that government has to go out and buy my breast pump — You want to talk about nanny state, I think we just got a new definition.”

Yes, the IRS is apparently going to give a tax- break to mothers who use the breast pump. But this debate is all over the place. Apparently some folks on the left agree with Queen wingnut, and some folks on the right agree with the First Lady. My my, these are confusing times in which we live. Politics has reared its ugly head into our infant's breast milk.
Now I am not an expert on this subject.....the feeding part....well....the milk part...let me quit while I am ahead. But I think it's amazing how quick the wingnuts will jump on damn near anything (and everything) those Obama folks try to do.
Poor Michelle Obama, she just wants A-merry-ca's kids to be healthy. And whether you agree with her stance on breast feeding or not, you can't, deep in your heart, say with a straight face that she does not care about mothers and their children. She wants our children to be healthy. It's better for their families; it's better for A-merry-ca.
But, in spite of this, they make fun of her and resort to juvenile name calling and cartoons.*
(And they wonder why we can't have a grown up debate in this country)
I say keep doing what you do Michelle. We need a "nanny state" for some of our damn kids and their parents out here. Hell, I see stories like this one out of my hometown, (Some of you Negroes and these Play Stations, I swear) and I start thinking to myself that we might need a lot more than that.
I am a mom, I have boobs, I've pumped, and I'm grateful for the work the Obama's have done in both the healthcare bill (requiring companies to provide privacy and allow women to pump) and the tax write off here in helping more moms to breastfeed. (mind you, I generally despise the healthcare bill, I'm more of a universal care kinda gal).
ReplyDeleteBreastpumps are not cheap. The cheap ones are painful, ineffective, and will lead you to quit early. A good breastpump makes a huge difference in output, and in comfort, and in mother continuance. If a mother continues to provide breastmilk to her child until AT LEAST one year of age, she is reducing his risk of SIDS by a significant amount, also his risk of dying by lung or digestive disorders, not to mention increases in immunity and decreases in asthma and all that...
Giving a wee tax break to moms who are working to provide their kids with long term better health is better for our entire nation - healthier kids, less hospital visits, etc etc. People who dislike that need to come up with some logical explanation why this is a bad thing.
Field I think I could see you laughing the whole time you were writing this post.
ReplyDeleteMichele Bachman is clearly losing her effort to have folks take her seriously. And she is really having fun with anything that has black folks attached to it.
She went after the black farmers settlement as well.
And Field what do you think was up with Duerson?
@Cumulonimbus Congestus... I am a mom and I breastfed my children who are now 31 and almost 29. It was back then, and I still believe that it was the best thing I could do for my children. They were never ill with infections, etc., and we are all very close to this day. I will never agree with Bachmann or Palin -- who cares that they are attempting to stay relevant. Both of them need to sit the &^%$ down somewhere.
ReplyDeleteThe hectoring has gotten out of control.
ReplyDeleteThere is a vast difference between "advocating" an issue, and hectoring.
Mrs. Obama has clearly (and often) crossed the line between the two.
Her hypocrisy is absolutely stunning -- and impressive at the same time.
Field,
ReplyDeleteThe wingnuts can't stomach an African American having any influence over them.
Karen what in the world are you talking about. The first lady made a suggestion. You can take it or leave it.
ReplyDeleteShe was advocating or suggesting, but not bullying or intimidating anyone, which is what hectoring means. Look it up!
Unless you are implying that there is something about Ms Obama that is intimidating to you.
If anybody is doing the hectoring or harrassing, its Michele Bachman who has something backward to say about everything.
Bachman breast fed her own kids!
Mellaneous, "Michele Bachman is clearly losing her effort to have folks take her seriously. And she is really having fun with anything that has black folks attached to it."
ReplyDeletebrotha mell, i am getting real tired of your distorted perception of whites persecuting blacks. you must be the biggest black victim in America. do you realize that it is 2011, and Obama is President?
fyi, we are in post-racial times in America- and as a bm i can vouch for that because i experience it everyday. my wife is white, we live in the suburbs and have two good looking boys, and the girls in the neighborhood chase after them too much.
my wife and i are very much involved in the pta and in our community. there is not a shred of evidence of racism where we are.
you obviously live in the hood where they bitch and blame everything on whites. but i understand that attitude is good for your business in the hood as a minister to stir up racial bullshit. you probably can't preach very well, and know very little about the bible or Christianity.
she has something about her that is a bit offputting dont know what it is because she is very well presented and such but...somehow seems like she is as opinionated as Rosie O'Donnel and most people find that sow disgusting
ReplyDeleteI dont think its because shes black I think its because shes a bitch and folks can sense it! you can put lipstick on a goat but its still a goat!
yeah mell the shithead is on some 1965 angry obsolete militant shit that dont even matter because the granddaughters of the kkk members that he fought in the sixties is his grandsons babies mamas and thats real yall dont get it this black white shit where blacks are only victims and white are evil capitalist bastards is played out and insignificant and perpetuates negativity because in truth blacks and white is the only ones who speaks english now and they be marrying more blacks even to preserve their 'americanness' aint that crazy
ReplyDelete104 anon talk about michelle obama lord help ya!
ReplyDelete@ Mell, DD had some financial issues over the years. Go to the Sun-times web site, they have a pretty good write up about our man who played for a certain team in a certain city (in my best Chicago accent, wait I'm from.......)
ReplyDelete@Karen, previous First Ladies advocated for their pet projects. Was Lady Bird hectoring when she advocated for a cleaner environment? "Don't tell me to stop littering lady"! Was Pickles hectoring when she advocated for literacy? This ODS has got to stop. It is downright amazing when healthy children and proper nutrition are seen as negatives. Bachmann and her ilk are green because Michelle came from a working class southside family and got an Ivy League law degree and is the most influential and well liked woman on the planet and she is a joke on late night tv. My advice to Bachmann is to shut up and work on creating jobs because her current path is spinning out of control.
@Cumulonimbus, why did you choose that name? Just curious because I'm a weather geek.

ReplyDeleteMell, this is not too deep of an analysis but it hints at a few things.
That's ok PilotX. Mell doesn't go on facts and analyses anyway. As a matter of fact, neither do you,.lol
ReplyDeleteField, "I say keep doing what you do Michelle. We need a "nanny state" for some of our damn kids and their parents out here. Hell, I see stories like this one out of my hometown, (Some of you Negroes and these Play Stations, I swear) and I start thinking to myself that we might need a lot more than that."
ReplyDeleteThe black race in places like Philly have out of control kids at an all-time high. Black children today are extremely angry and will kill their parents over anything minor.
I find it amazing that none of your FN folks have EVEN MENTIONED about this story and how violent and murderous black kids are today.
No, we don't need a nanny state, we need more prisons for these volcanic Blacks. Our society cannot afford to allow black kids to be free. It would be better to put most of them in institutions where they can be watched and disciplined into constructive citizens...IF that is possible.
Field, instead of chasing Whites you should be chasing black killers between the ages of 12 and 18yrs. There are alot more of them. and who knows, maybe you will finally make a contribution to ALL of America?
come on bm anon if you are going to attack me, or debate at least discuss what I actually say.
ReplyDeleteI think the political/economic/social system is the problem not individual white folks, though some individual whites have done some hateful and injurious things to some people because of their color, and so yes I oppose that as well.
Lately Michelle Bachman has picked on the black farmers settlement without even finding out the details as was exposed when she was further questioned.
And her family actually receives farm subsidies.
"Anti-socialist Bachmann got $250K in federal farm subsidies"
http://www.politico.com/blogs/glennthrush/1209/Antisocialist_Bachmann_got_250k_in_federal_farm_subsidies.htmlral
And now she is going off the deep end about nothing. And I responded to Karen's accusing Ms. Obama of being a bully or intimidating and asked her why she sees it that way.
I am not being a victim at all I actually get involved and fight for social justice.
And I have a class analysis of this society. As I have said dozens of times before, whites, blacks, Asians, Latins Indians and all colors of working class folks should work together to make sure that everyone can enjoy some kind of prosperity in this society.
I don't dislike white folks. In fact I work with white folks together on all kinds of issues including anti-war events.
You say that you are black male and I guess I will take your word for it, but no black men I know refer to themselves as a bm. You may be right judging from what you contribute to Field's blog it may be an apt moniker. They would simply say they are black or a black man.
So if you are a black man why are you so adamant that racism doesn't exist? And on what real basis can you say that this is a post racial society.
And if things are wonderful where you are I don't understand your attacking me since I am trying to make things better all over.
If life is good for you and yours thats good, I am glad for you, but if of course you are a Christian then you are obligated to look out for your lesser off bretheren.
Saying that I am playing the victim while fighting injustice and inequality in our society is just plain silly and makes no sense.
Thanks Pilot X for that info. Why do the anons bother, they never have an analysis or an original idea to offer. But they run around like little children going nah nah nah na!
ReplyDeleteWho does this kind of thing?
Mell, "You say that you are black male and I guess I will take your word for it, but no black men I know refer to themselves as a bm. You may be right judging from what you contribute to Field's blog it may be an apt moniker. They would simply say they are black or a black man."
ReplyDeleteMaybe you should tell Field not to use bm for black men? the point is bm has been used quite often on FN. Where have you been?
Mell said, "So if you are a black man why are you so adamant that racism doesn't exist? And on what real basis can you say that this is a post racial society."
Read my comments again and it will tell you what real basis I made, which has been my own direct experience.
But the best proof of all is Obama as President. What more proof could you possibly want?
Come onbm you can do better than that. You didn't give any proof that racism didn't exist in your community. All you told me was that you are married to a white woman and that your daughters are wanted by the boys in the neighborhood. And I don't know how that proves anythinig.
ReplyDeleteThe black president just means that there are more liberal minded folks who are willing to give a black man a chance who wouldn't rock the boat too much or not at all.
We still have unequal public education, police brutality is still rampant, employment discrimination still exists, law enforcement still seeks out drug users and dealers in black communities even though all reliable studies have shown that drug usage and dealing is higher in white communities.
These things have not changed and the black president hasn't even tried to use his bully pulpit to address these issues.
This so-called post racial society still lies in the future because it surely does not exist now.
"Maybe you should tell Field not to use bm for black men? the point is bm has been used quite often on FN. Where have you been?"
ReplyDeleteI haven't recalled Field using that abbreviation. Perhaps you can point out the instances he himself used that abbreviation, in case I missed something.
"No, we don't need a nanny state, we need more prisons for these volcanic Blacks. Our society cannot afford to allow black kids to be free. It would be better to put most of them in institutions where they can be watched and disciplined into constructive citizens...IF that is possible."
Your mind has already been imprisoned by all the shit fed to you by corporate interests, conservative fear-peddlers and unreconstructed bigots. I'm not surprised at you tap-dancing around the blog like a modern day minstrel. Your handlers wouldn't have it any other way.
So, how much are they paying you to exhort how more Black men should be incarcerated and used as free labor in the Prison-Industrial Complex? Or do they pay you in watermelon and fried chicken, because you're a "good lil' darkie" and don't want to piss your handlers off by saying you want otherwise?
@Mell, I don't know why they troll around. Bored maybe? I love the way they accuse us of not using facts but they have YET to accept my challenge of showing me exactly where I'm factually incorrect about something. typical conservative projection maybe. I know that dude isn't Black because no brotha in his right mind would say half the stuff this one does. It has to be a humor troll so then again maybe it is Black. Best to ignore it I guess. You know the funniest thing is a supposed Black dude attacking other Black dudes and ignoring white racists all the while bragging about being married to a white woman. Nothing wrong with that but the brothas he's attacking are all married to sistas. Conservative bizarroland is all I can come up with.
ReplyDeleteOh well, back to complaining about the man.
Sassy Black woman caricature downing a whole bunch of hamburgers. Obama (with requisite dumbo-style ears) eats what appears to be a very meager salad dish, apparently making him the emasculated leaf-eating male caricature. The comic's vibe? Do as I say, not as I do. Michelle wants to force God-fearing Real Americans to stop eating hamburgers and other fatty foods while she gorges herself on whatever the fuck she wants to eat.
ReplyDeleteThese guys are trying too hard. Where's Scott Stantis when you need him?
By the way, the prison experience does not work towards rehabilitation in most cases. Instead, they're treated as long-term human storage facilities geared towards keeping inmates contained, fed and cared in the most minimum manner possible without drawing any flack from regulating authorities, with the inmates themselves being pressed into labor for as little as $0.12/hr. That's about as much as the average person in the Third World makes on an hourly basis.
The inmates come out with little to no employment prospects and social support. They often turn to drugs and more crime -- at least they know they can get a steady three hots and a cot as opposed to scuffling and starving out on the streets.
"Field, instead of chasing Whites you should be chasing black killers between the ages of 12 and 18yrs. There are alot more of them. and who knows, maybe you will finally make a contribution to ALL of America?"
Of course. Get those awful Niggers off the street and into prison where they belong and he'll finally make a contribution to "Real" Americans worth turning an eye towards.
I have a strong hunch these guys are being paid to do what they do. Nobody as bigoted as some of the anons and named users I've seen spend all of their time and energy trolling an African-American interest blog unless they were being paid good coin to do so. Maybe the Field knows it, too, hench the whole "Anon Inc." thing.
ReplyDeleteThe link catcher is aggressive as hell -- a link to prison hourly wages got caught in the net, hence why I had to leave it out of the repost.
I think that Andrew Breitbart had the illustrator Hudnall make the "Mammy" cartoon to "spoil" African American jurors in his case with Shirley Sharrod. His benefactors Niles and Frazier Crane, aka The Koch Brothers have enough money.
ReplyDeleteWhy does everything that is good for someone come as a surprise to a black person? Despite decades of books, newspaper articles, scientific studies etc, culminating with someone else having to pay for it?
ReplyDeleteWe all know eating healthy is good, thats why mom can pack you a healthy lunch that she buys instead of getting free taxpayer funded salad bars. Or why kids who have parents that actually parent don't let them eat junk food and buy healthy. (No greens and vegetables are not more expensive then captain crunch). Those who have kids yet PAY taxes have to cut corners this way and the kids grow up with values.
Breast feeding is good, when you "plan" to have kids factor this into planning including doctors costs, support methods to ensure adequate nutrition, schooling, clothing, toys, saving for college, all the things you need to secure before you decide to have kids. Not have society pay for them.
Michelle can feel free to tell anyone who will listen what she thinks is good for them, she should NEVER have any ability to force others to pay for anyone else.
Geez next thing you know Michelle will be saying it's good to have a two member parental unit and that will help kids grow up with some stability and then imposing a Black Male Must get married tax on the rest of society or another refund check for the males to incentivize them.
Every time I go in to the DMV, the workers are professional, they're polite, they do their jobs competently, they get me fixed up and out of there without undue fuss and muss. The place is clearly understaffed for the job they do, but everybody I see is making do and getting the job done in a workmanlike manner.
ReplyDeleteYet you listen to the right-wing jerkholes and DMV workers are lazy, rude, spend most of their time standing around gossiping, and treat the customers like crap. But I'll tell ya a secret about why there's such a difference between my experience at the DMV and the experience of right-wing jerkholes at the DMV. It's real simple. The right-wing jerkholes are JERKHOLES. And if you treat a DMV employee like poo, like these right-wing jerkholes do, they'll treat *you* like poo too -- they'll lose your paperwork, require you to leave and go get stuff certified, or simply disappear into a backroom somewhere and leave you standing there while they take a long-overdue coffee break. That's why right-wing jerkholes are always complaining about the DMV... because DMV workers deal with hundreds of people every day, they're doing a thankless job that has to be done, and they just don't have the time of day for jerkholes. You go in there with an attitude, you get one back. It's that simple.
But right-wing jerkholes never get the point that the problem is *them*, not the DMV. You'd think that they'd get a clue, but such a sense of unwarranted entitlement seems to preclude such a clue...
One of the things that I like best about working in private industry now rather than government, aside from the pay (which is five times more than I ever made as a government employee) is that I don't have to deal with jerkholes. If an jerkhole starts demanding things of me, I tell him to go -bleep- himself and get his butt out of my business. A government employee doesn't have that luxury, the whole point of being a public employee is that you gotta serve all the public, unlike a private business where you can refuse service to anybody who's an jerkhole. But that don't make public employees robots, yo. You treat them like poo, well. What the -bleep- do you expect anyhow, that they'll just bend over for ya and say "thank you sir, give me more"?!
-- Badtux the Former Government Worker Penguin

Thought I'd share this. It places a nice perspective on things. And Badtux has been prescient, like Ted Rall and others, about many things. However, the MSM prefers Villagers, wingnuts who are never correct, and folks deemed to be better by having the invite to Cokie and Andrea's cocktails.

Why yes, all you AfAms can just saunter into your local Whole Foods and purchase wholesome food with your wingnut welfare check! Why my Mommy/Boss/? tells me so!
ReplyDeleteIt is the glee of tiny weeny juveniles to see adults become emotional over things. Think of the cretins from Junior High who used to taunt the teacher with the chronic illness. The heroic brave heroes who would say 'poo' to bump an instructor's equanimity. Same mental age...same maturity...same utter lack of understanding anything.
Bachmann and Palin can't ever admit that an AfAm with vastly better credentials and accomplishments is in any way their equal. You will note that neither Mean Girl had done any positive activity. All they can do is whine about the prettier, more popular, sexier, more athletic and nicer girl. Just like in Jr High when Michelle was tracked to Academic...and Sarey and Meeshell were Left Behind.

field, you wrote:
ReplyDeleteYes, the IRS is apparently going to give a tax- break to mothers who use the breast pump.
Here's a little tidbit for those readers who do not understand the impacts of tax breaks.
Today, if a product sells for $100 without a tax-break, that means all the money spent on the product comes straight out of your pocket.
If the product then receives a "tax-break", it usually means the amount spent -- in this case $100 -- is deductible from your taxable income. Thus, if your income tax rate is 25%, the after-tax cost of your purchase is $75.
However, the fun is now only beginning. Why? Because when the government allows a consumer to deduct a purchase from his taxable income, the seller of the product can raise the price.
Thus, based on the example of the 25% tax rate, the price of the $100 product will go up to about $133.
However, because the product has gained an official government "tax-break" it may well become an item given to "poor" mothers for FREE. It may well become covered by Medicaid.
Therefore, the sellers of products that receive "tax-breaks" thank you very much.
A similar thing happens when the US slaps a tariff on an imported car, thereby raising its price. When that happens, GM, Ford and Chrysler can raise their prices. However, as we know, that strategy did not save GM or Chrysler from bankruptcy. Nor did it prevent the firing of thousands and thousands of auto-company employees.
The government should always stay away from skewing markets through its bizarre and harmful pricing schemes.

What is a "volcanic black"? And are there any "volcanic blacks" in your family? I thought I read where you said that you were black. I am just curious to know how you broke the cycle. Was it education? Was it socialization?
Maybe you can help some of us blacks out here who might be diagnosed as "volcanic". I had a judge threaten to lock me up and find me in contempt of his court once because he thought I was grandstanding to the jurors and being....well I guess "volcanic". My guy got off but I always worry about that. I never want to have a sudden eruption.....well, not in court at least. I am just sayin.

As Michelle herself said, she was shocked that Princeton accepted her because her SAT scores were so low.
Of course she was unintentionally acknowledging the 200 bonus points added to the SAT scores of blacks applying to Ivy League schools. AND she has not revealed her SAT scores, so you know they were low, as were, undoubtedly, her LSAT scores.
Meanwhile, I read Michelle's senior thesis that she wrote at Princeton. She attended one of the best universities in the WORLD, where most of the students are among the best in the world.
Despite being surrounded by brilliant and talented classmates, it appears nothing rubbed off. Her thesis was terribly and sadly average.
It was the work of an unremarkable student at an unremarkable state college.
Meanwhile, SAT scores of many white candidates have been released. None of the released scores were impressive, and, it was obvious the scores were leaked to embarrass the candidates. But no one has leaked the scores of the Obamas, which, if the scores had been high, would have happened a long time ago.
Hence, we know they are low. Moreover, in his career as a law student, on the Law Review and as a law professor, Obama stands out for publishing NOTHING.

The Columbine killings were perpetrated about 15 years ago. About a dozen people were killed.
Based on your comment, you make an equivalence between 2 killers who killed a dozen people 15 years ago and ALL the murders committed by ALL the young killers in Philly over the last 15 years.
By my estimation you value white lives about 60-to-1 over black lives.

You know. Disproving something that never happened. But that logical issue does not apply to the case of the alleged rape of Recy Taylor.
Yes Slappy, but she is still your First Lady, and the First Lady of the most "powerful nation on earth". As far as killers...wite boys shot down unarmed children at school while 'homeboys' mixed it up with equally violent and armed adversaries. Wite boys=chickenpoo cowards who wan away the at the first sign of resistance. Homeboys=fighting the enemy...who has guns.
So, why do you idolize two puerile cowards?

You really ought to focus on efforts in the black community that really work rather than engaging in your endless excuse making that boils down to pinning all the problems of blacks on non-blacks.
However, you and I both know that the strategies that have worked in the black community are the same strategies that work in non-black communities. Unfortunately for you, the reality undermines every element of the Black Grievance Theory.

ReplyDeletefield,
Are you going to post about the Urban Academy in Chicago (all black, all male) that is sending 100% of its senior class to college?
You really ought to focus on efforts in the black community that really work rather than engaging in your endless excuse making that boils down to pinning all the problems of blacks on non-blacks.
However, you and I both know that the strategies that have worked in the black community are the same strategies that work in non-black communities. Unfortunately for you, the reality undermines every element of the Black Grievance Theory.

Yeah. Sure. The only accurate statement is this: You nitwits who claim there' no proof refuse to look at the large mountain of it.
You can start with The Journal of Blacks in Higher Education.
www.jbhe.com
As for legacy students, well, what of it? Private universities can admit any student for any reason. That freedom is theirs.
Meanwhile, no one is denying that a small number of students get that legacy break.
Whereas nitwits like you always deny the well documented 200 SAT bonus points handed to black applicants.
This situation is another example of the extent of denial among blacks.
kid:
ReplyDeleteas u feign any sincere concern for poor blacks
do recall that hobama and his banksters have LEGENDARILY fleeced and impoverished poor blacks and their progeny for decades...worse than any prez ever!!!!
One other unexpected event of the last decade is the disappearance of a century's worth of progress in reducing the wealth gap between black and white Americans. As Rex Nutting at Market Watch so accurately notes, wealth levels of the black family in America have declined dramatically during the past decade, and they show no evidence of getting better any time soon.
I am not sure how to process the Obama Administration's blind, deaf and dumb response to the persistent wealth and opportunity gaps in America that pertain to race. While the president continues to be popular among African Americans, I would encourage members of his administration to remember that leading with courage is an important part of making African American history (not just holding a fancy title that adds almost nothing more than symbolic value for the black community at large). Courage means sometimes doing things that are not popular and working to make America better.
Given that I haven't heard the president or his team use the words "black man," "black woman," or "black families" in public over the last two years, I am concerned as to whether or not our first black president has been or is willing to do much to fight on issues that matter to black people who didn't go to Harvard University. For example, it's interesting that President Obama would speak up for Henry Louis Gates in a meaningless and ambiguous scuffle with a police officer, but wouldn't say a word about Kelley Williams-Bolar, a black woman who was sent to jail for trying to get her kids into a good school. The latter case was far more significant in the fight against inequality, but Kelley's housing projects were apparently not close enough to Harvard Yard.

no one who truly loves poor people can love the opulent amoral elitist hobamas!!!!
ReplyDeleteTwo full years into the Obama presidency, black incomes are falling at record levels. The black president has declared the salaries and pensions of public workers, the largest stable sector of the black working class, to be a public menace. The unprecedented wave of home foreclosures, which the White House does nothing to stop, are disproportionately concentrated in black and brown America. While libraries and home health care are are cut, nukes are fully funded, “clean coal” is unleashed, and the White House funds multiple imperial wars, tortures and imprisons without the bother of trials or even charges, invades the private email and phone communications of millions, and threatening activists, journalists and whistleblowers with indefinite detention.
In the light of day, four years after declaring himself “Joshua” to Dr. King's Moses, our first black president resembles Pharoah more than anybody else, and like the Egyptians who delighted in his worship, black America, our leaders tell us, should just shut up and be proud that we have a black president and a pretty black family in that big White House.
There's something deeply wrong with this. When black Americans used to identify with the world's oppressed and down-trodden, they were at least identifying with people like themselves. Now we are more likely to see ourselves in Michelle Obama, who takes six or eight vacations a year in some of the world's most expensive resorts, than in a poor greiving Palestinian or Congolese mother. Many of us, if we're lucky enough to have a week or two a year of paid vacation, are too broke to go anywhere. And millions of us haven't seen a paid vacation in a while

@no_slapz Breast pumps are ALREADY covered by WIC, albeit very poor, manual ones that would be completely useless for a working woman (you try hand juicing two boobs in fifteen minutes or less, including clean up). You should WANT that - it's cheaper than formula, which they are handing about by the caselot (not just to women who "can't" breastfeed, but also to women who just don't want to).
ReplyDelete@Pilot_x I am a semi weather nerd, and I live in the middle of awesome cloud country. I have some of the best mammamatus sitings ever (semi on topic for the thread even).

ReplyDeleteworking moms need good breast pumps. and childless lesbians and people without babies have no place to say a word.
the republicans and tea-baggers want women pregnant and staying home with their kids. they'd never need a good pump.
we need to have a more important discussion on the coverage of birth control pills with no deductible as part of the essential benefits package being determined as the basis for what all health plans operating in exchanges will have to offer.
if it's an essential benefit, there's no co-pay and no deductible.
this was part of an overall campaign to promote breast feeding, which the same crowd also opposes as the "nanny state." bachman said this was necessary b/c the price of milk had gone up so high (apparently obama's fault), yet the dunce should know babies who are young enough for breast-feeding have formula as an option--not milk. and most formula is soy-based, because it's better to prevent milk allergies.

skyrocketing prices. This has become the underlying factor in the riots in Tunisia, Algeria, and Egypt, where up to 56% of a person's income is dedicated to the acquisition of food. These riots are now leading to the upheaval of governments and the very real possibility of the ascendancy of the radical elements into control.
While bad weather in various parts of the world is an element of the accelerating food prices, there are two other factors directly related to the United States and its policies.
First, because of the enormous deficits run up by the Obama administration and the Democrat-controlled Congress, the Federal Reserve has had to effectively print trillions of dollars, which have flooded the global market. Commodities are priced in dollars; consequently, emerging markets throughout the world, and the food sector in particular, are suffering from rapidly rising inflation.

ReplyDelete“..the EPA has decided that, since milk contains oil, it has the authority to force farmers to comply with new regulations to file “emergency management” plans to show how they will cope with spilled milk, how farmers will train “first responders” and build “containment facilities” if there is a flood of spilled milk. Since there is no free lunch, all of this is going to cost the farmers both money and time that could be going into farming– and is likely to end up costing consumers higher prices for farm products. It is going to cost the taxpayers money as well, since the EPA is going to have to hire people to inspect farms, inspect farmers’ reports and prosecute farmers who don’t jump through all the right hoops in the right order. All of this will be “creating jobs,” even if the tax money removed from the private sector correspondingly reduces the jobs that can be created there.
Does anyone seriously believe that any farmer is going to spill enough milk to compare with the Exxon Valdez oil spill or the BP oil spill?
Do you envision people fleeing their homes, as a flood of milk comes pouring down the mountainside, threatening to wipe out the village below?”

Even the United States has been hit as a catastrophic winter has seen 49 of their 50 States covered by snow causing unprecedented damage to their crops in Florida due to freezing weather, and record setting rains destroying massive numbers of crops in their most important growing region of California.
And if you think that things couldn’t get any worse you couldn’t be more mistaken as South Korea (one of the most important meat exporters in Asia) has just this past week had to destroy millions of farm animals after an outbreak of the dreaded foot-and-mouth disease was discovered.
To how horrific the Global food situation will become this year was made even more grim this past month when the United States reported that nearly all of their honey bee and bumblebee populations have died out, and when coupled with the “mysterious” die-off of the entire bat population in America means that the two main pollinators of fruit and vegetable plants will no longer be able to do their jobs leading to crop losses this report warns will be “biblical and catastrophic”.
Chillingly to note is that after meeting with Sarkozy, Obama began implementing his Nation’s strategy for keeping the truth of this dire events from reaching the American people by ordering all US citizens to have an Internet ID so that they can be tracked and jailed should they begin telling the truth.
And so today, as agricultural traders and analysts warn that the latest revision to US and Global stocks means there is no further room for weather problems, a new cyclone is preparing to hit Australia, brutal winter weather in India has killed nearly 130, and more snow is warned to hit America, and we’re not even two full weeks into 2011… may God have mercy on us all.

Some Rs and all TeaBaggers want cheap, disposable labour. Duggarating the working class does this nicely. When a woman gets education, one of the first things she'll do is limit family size. Better family economics, less stress, and a lot less housework. Notice how the Duggar girls had all the baby chores, the house chores, and the boys got to go play? Anywho, when a family has 20 offspring...and it goes over the entire demographic...you have lots of people looking for the same job. HUGE downward pressure on wages. When a family has one or two kids, the wage pressure is based more on qualifications. Not nearly as cheap. Compare eveeel Europe wages to those of India, Utah, or other areas where 'every sperm is sacred'. You could also look at violence rates.

Ethanol has increased the average American's grocery bill $47 since July, and Iowa State University study concluded.

It seems people like to turn a mole into a mountain. The First Lady is being an advocate for better health of children, but if Laura Bush did the same thing, it would be praised. Michelle Obama thought she was taking a cause that everyone would agree with in providing children better foods options for their health, but it seems that all objectivity has seemingly left the building.
ReplyDeleteNo one some of you have to take a AK47 to kill a fly. It's about better nutrition people, and studies show that most babies benefit from breast milk than formula. In addition, not all babies can use formula because some do have soy allergies. Slappy is discussing Michelle Obama's thesis she wrote at Princeton that has nothing to do with the price of eggs as it has nothing to do with her advocating for poorer women to get breast pumps to feed their children, and it does fit into the philosophy of teaching a man to fish. Give the people the tools they to take care of themselves.

"Not exactly what one would call cutting back in troubled times."
Tantaros goes on to criticize the first lady for traveling abroad instead of within the United States, something that would help the U.S. economy.
"Michelle Obama seems more like a modern-day Marie Antoinette - the French queen who spent extravagantly on clothes and jewels without a thought for her subjects' plight - than an average mother of two," she writes. The White House won't confirm the rental location for security reasons. That hasn't stopped the Vineyard Gazette, the resort island’s journal of record since 1864, from reporting that the Obamas have chosen the 28-acre bucolic Blue Heron Farm, in Chilmark.
The owners: William and Mollie Van Devender, who bought the property in 2005 for $20.35 million. A Mississippi timber executive, William Van Devender gave $2,300, the maximum financial donation allowed under federal law, to Arizona Republican John McCain in last year’s campaign, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Both Van Devenders contributed to Tennessee Republican (and actor) Fred Thompson during his unsuccessful run in the presidential primary.

President Obama is a fan of Ronald Reagan. He said so during his 2008 presidential campaign, proclaiming that his foreign policy would be “somewhat like Ronald Reagan’s.” He called Reagan “transformational” and established the Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission so that we might all spend the next year waxing euphoric over the memory of the fortieth president of the United States
Reagan began the onslaught against union workers when he fired the striking air traffic controllers early in his presidency. It was the beginning of an effort to destroy unions and make them unpopular with easily fooled Americans. Instead of fighting for the rights of those few who have any protections, non-class conscious Americans jumped on the bandwagon of union bashing.
Reagan’s assaults on humanity were not reserved for the people of the United States. His foreign policy was an unmitigated disaster for the world. He was unrelenting in his support of right wing death squads in Central American nations El Salvador and Nicaragua. Miguel D’Escoto was Nicaragua’s foreign minister when the Reagan administration did everything possible to destabilize that government. At the time of Reagan’s death in 2004, D’Escoto did not mince words when talking about Reagan’s awful legacy:
Reagan was indeed unapologetic in his adherence to manifest destiny, the belief that white America’s rule and expansion is inevitable and beneficent. D’Escoto is correct. Manifest destiny is a demonic idea which has caused the deaths of many people, first the American Indians, then the enslaved whose misery was spread across the North American continent, then to the peoples of the rest of the Americas who, in Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Nicaragua and other nations, which have all at one time or another lived under United States occupation.
When Americans engage in thoughtless cheerleading, the result is usually very, very bad. As D’Escoto said, communicating in this country means telling very big lies, and the endless Reagan love marathon is based on the biggest lies of all

The 2012 Obama budget should have caught no one off guard. Obama told everyone in earshot how much he admired President Reagan, so “why be surprised when you get a Reagan-type budget?” Obama’s assault on poor and working people’s programs collides with the historical Black consensus around issues of social justice. At some point there will be a reckoning
The result is an Obama budget that is all sliced up, like the loser in a knife fight – only, Obama and his corporate executives-on-loan at the White House did all the cutting, themselves. Obama is showing such extraordinary talent for obliterating poor and working class programs across the board, he’s making Republicans look redundant and obsolete
Despite being dazzled by Obama's skin color and charm, there is still a consensus among Black Americans on issues of social justice. With his draconian cuts, President Obama is violating that consensus so sharply, it cannot be papered over for the sake of racial pride. We were pleased to learn that Congressman Emanuel Cleaver, chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, has dramatically distanced himself from Obama's budget priorities. The heads of traditional Black organizations would be wise to do the same. African Americans are watching their Obama-dreams turn into nightmares. Sometime soon, they will demand an accounting from those who misled them into the lair of the scorpion

But only simple minded fools think somebody is trying to make them do something, you guys sound like 8 year olds. We should keep in mind the current extent of economic suffering in the U.S. as we consider President Obama’s misguided plan to impose a crippling 50 percent reduction in the community service block grants that serve as the crucial foundation for community action agencies. The cuts will undoubtedly doom many of the programs. (The Republicans in the House would eliminate the block grants entirely.)

Oh that's right, liberals want it so it has to be bad.
ReplyDelete@ SPC You're welcomed. Now if you could answer a few questions. ReplyDeleteReligious people want to stop abortion. No one is trying to take away private sector workers right to bargain anything; public sector unions should not be dictating work rules. I don't know of any real movement ot impose "specific religious practice in public schools".
Maybe you can name one place where abortion is illegal, unions are illegal, and a public school is imposing religious practices on students?
PilotX: "Every leftie I know wants more freedom not less."
More freedom for perversion perhaps, but less for everything else. ReplyDeleteLaura Bush advocated reading and I certainly didn't have a problem with it. There is a problem with illiteracy in this country as well. There is a problem with obesity in this country and a tax credit for a breast pump is relatively cheap to help prevent this problem than paying an expensive healthcare bill that will come from the taxpayers. Once again, you are using an AK47 to kill a fly than looking at the big picture. It would better to pay a small amount up front than pay billions of dollars on the back end. If you really thought about, this could cost the taxpayers less money in the long-run. Oh, but no, you want to bitch and complain than using some critical thinking and creative skills to solve a problem. You don't see the forest for the trees. An unhealthy nation cannot thrive because the people would be too sick to be productive.

I think SPC pretty much owned this argument, but the irony of this PilotX quote is just too much.
It's ok to force your views and lifestyle choices on others, because they "make the world a better place", but when they do it, it's evil.
I'll bet Christians think banning abortion and letting kids pray I school would make the world a better place too.
You think Chrisitanity is a crock; fine. I think Envirostatism is a crock too. Both can have positive impacts on how people live, but have no place dictating government policies. Liberals must think when water goes down the drain, it goes to Mars. If Las Vegas wants to ban toliets and shower heads, that's one thing, but it's none of the federal government's business. Global warming has been shown to be a hoax; a ruse to expand government control of economic activity. Liberalism is a politically corrupting force that is now doing to physical science what it has already done to social sciences, art, and education.
No one should be controlling how other people live. We should be free to pursue happiness as long as it doesn't infinge on the rights of others.
Where to start Rev. Right. I know' "global warming has been shown to be a hoax", I would love to see your proof here buddy. There is a definite increase in CO2 emmissions, care to show me this is not true? What effects this will have on the environment is unknown soooooooo, what has been proven if anything at all? The atmospheric science community would greatly appreciate your information and how you came about it.
ReplyDeleteYou want proof of the right injecting religious beliefs into the classroom? Try the Dover public school system, Texas public school system and the Kansas public school system. Google those terms and put in creationism and see what you get.
Abortion is virtually illegal in S.D., N.D. and Kansas to name a few. Though technically legal there are no providers due to extreme laws foisted upon the state by conservative politicians. And yes, conservation of natural resources is in the jurisdiction of the federal government.
Do those answers satisfy you? Are you going to answer my questions or are you going to dodge them as you normally do?
http://www.ametsoc.org/policy/2007climatechange.html
ReplyDeleteThe AMS's official position on climate change. Do you have anything to offer Rev. since you are defending science and all.
http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2011/20110112_globalstats.html
ReplyDeleteNOAA has determined 2010 to be the hottest year on record, tied with 2005 so please Rev. explain to me how the planet isn't warming? Hoax huh? You might want to tell the climatalogists at NOAA, they didn't get the Fox news memo.
PilotX: "atmospheric science community would greatly appreciate your information and how you came about it."
ReplyDeleteThat's where I get my information. My brother has a PhD in atmospheric science and works for NOAA doing primary research. Yes CO2 has increased, but there has been no evidence of any significant contribution to warming due to man made emissions.
Science is based on facts, not consensus. You don't vote on what the truth is; it is what it is. The government funds the science that supports its position, and scientists know to tell the funders what they want to hear.
Regarding 2010, the numbers were to some extent "massaged". And warming, even if it is happening, is not necessarily due the fact Republicans drive SUV's.
Your examples are weak. Abortion is still legal in all 50 states, and no public school teaches creationism as fact. Where in the constitution does it grant the federal government the power to tell people how much water their toilet uses? This is the proper jurisdiction of a municipal government. Why do you want to live in a country where far off bureaucrats tell your community how every detail of their lives must be lived?
Sure, ask your brother if there is no correlation between the recent higher temps and CO2 forcing. Let me know what answer he gives ya. I'll bet it isn't global warming is a hoax. I'd love to hear his opinion. Where did he get his degrees? We might know the same people. BTW, NOAA did in fact say the temps are increasing ergo "global warming".
ReplyDelete"no public school teaches creationism as fact", well you may be right buuuuuuuttttt there is a concrete effort to undermine biological evolution. Remember what they did in Georgia? How about Kansas? How about Dover, DE is that a good way to promote science?
BTW, Rev. Right does that mean you're gonna read the articles I provided and discuss them with your brother and give me your opinion on them? That was the original question but you have a habit of ignoring my questions.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, how were these numbers "massaged" exactly? It is my understanding these temps are taken from official climate stations that have very strict standards, do you know something I don't?
First, I don't ignore your questions; half my posts don't seem to ever make it through.
ReplyDeleteI read your AMS article, which primarily describes simple theory, not proof. The NOAA article presents a summary of the 2010 temperature, in which it calls a tie between 2010 and 2005 as the warmest years since 1880. It also presents the U.S. data, which I believe to be flawed.
Here is an article that explains why:
http://www.energytribune.com/articles.cfm/6440/Is-It-Really-The-Warmest-Ever
Did you read the article I linked to earlier?
My brother does primary science. Most people working on primary climate science are not part of the global warming bandwagon.
Regarding the "massaging" of numbers, NASA has been caught "adjusting" the data from weather stations to show more warming. (see the graph comparison in the article above).
The data itself is aslo suspect. Many weather stations that were originally in a rural setting when established 50 or 100 years ago, are now located in an urban setting as the cities have grown aound them. Everyone recognizes that the urban areas are warmer, especially at night, than surrounding rural and suburban areas.
According to NOAA guidelines, climate temperature sensors are to be located away (100 feet or more) from local heat sources and sheltered from direct sunlight on the sensing element, while allowing for ventilation by the wind.
89% of of the 1,000 plus U.S. ground temperature stations surveyed do not meet NOAA’s published standards for distance between stations and adjacent heat sources, seriously compromising readings.
Warmists have been telling us for 20 years now that doom is right around the corner, yet we are still here. Sea levels have not risen any faster than they have been for centuries. When you get up tomorrow, look up at the sky. I'll bet it won't be falling.
Funny, yes the sky won't fall tomorrow but what will the effects of increased CO2 be in 50 or 100 years? As far as the data from climate stations all persons gathering this data know about UHIs and increased temps from the proximity to heat sources i.e. cities. Most are located at airports for obvious reasons. There is an adjustment in the data for UHI effects, ask your bro about this, and these anomolies are well known. This is no different than well known model biases, you know what they are and adjust for them. The problem is you use the same logic as most who are not thinking on climate or geology terms. Of course we may not even see the effects of CO2 increases in our lifetimes but that does not mean they will not occur. No one really knows what these effects will be but do you really think impregnating the atmosphere with tons of CO2 will lead to a good outcome in the future?
ReplyDeleteIn regards to your response to the AMS article your statement about "theory" is a bit misleading. 1. In science the term theory means an obeservation that has been tested and confirmed as a working explanation of a natural phenomena. and 2. in explaining the possible effects of future warming how could it be provable? Are you in posession of a time machine? That being said there are certain assumptions being made that are very reasonable such as the amount of heat being trapped in the atmosphere due to greenhouse gasses. Models have shown some of the most likely scenarios and most have a good degree of agreement. Of course models are not 100% verifiable but can give us a good understanding of what we can exect in the future.
ReplyDeleteYou're not trying very hard are you?
"Of course we may not even see the effects of CO2 increases in our lifetimes but that does not mean they will not occur."
ReplyDeleteNor does that mean they will occur. There is no reason to make economic decisions that will cost trillions of dollars to implement based on a theory that has yet to be confirmed by any objective evidence.
Do what is sensible to save energy and reduce (real) pollution, but let's not base policy around a ficticious problem. It makes no sense. (Unless of course you stand to gain power, money, grants or warm sense of sanctimonius satisfaction).
This is a political issue, not a scientific issue. Global warming is just anti-capitalism and anti-Americanism pursued under a different strategy. Isn't it curious that all the prescriptions to cure global warming are the same ones they had for curing the world of American capiltalism before global warming?
It IS a scientific issue. Once again use are impropery using the term theory. If the model projections are correct by the time we mae any serious course corrections it may be too late. The only way to verify the projections is to wait and see, unless of course you have a crystal ball or something. There is no anti-Americanism or anti-Capitalism decree from the scientific community. There is only a logical response to reduce CO2 levels. Leave politics alone, on a purely scientific level, do you agree CO2 is a greenhouse gas? If so does pumping tons of it into our atmosphere sound like a good idea to you?
ReplyDelete
