See what you started Bishop Eddie?

Like I wasn't going to blog about this story.

Seems that yet another republi-clown (Family.God. Country) hypocrite has been caught with his pants down. --Well, in this case, it's trying to make his pants go down.

"Rep. Christopher Lee , a New York Republican, has resigned after reports surfaced that the married congressman was trying to meet women on Craigslist, a GOP source told CNN.

Lee acknowledged making "profound mistakes" and said his decision to step down was voluntary.

"It has been a tremendous honor to serve the people of Western New York. I regret the harm that my actions have caused my family, my staff and my constituents. I deeply and sincerely apologize to them all. I have made profound mistakes and I promise to work as hard as I can to seek their forgiveness," he said in a statement.

"The challenges we face in Western New York and across the country are too serious for me to allow this distraction to continue, and so I am announcing that I have resigned my seat in Congress effective immediately." [Source]

Blah blah blah. Yes, but you caused the "distraction". Don't try to make it seems like your little attempted Craigslist rendezvous was someone else's fault. You are in this one all by yourself congressman.

Still, I am not going to kill Lee like I would some of the other hypocrites in his party. He is not the worst of that loony lot.

"Lee apparently responded to the ad claiming to be a divorced, 39-year-old lobbyist who described himself as a "fit fun classy guy." He sent the woman a two photographs of himself, including one in which he is shirtless and flexing. When the woman discovered that Lee is actually married, 46 years old and a member of Congress, she sent the correspondence and pictures to Gawker.

Lee's office deflected media inquiries all day until his resignation statement was released, and Lee would only tell Fox News while walking to his car Wednesday afternoon that "I have to work this out with my wife." Gawker reported that his office first claimed in response to their questions that Lee's email had been hacked, and that Lee deleted his Facebook account following the site's initial inquiry. "

Oh my! Now now Congressman, you can't go lying to a sincere Craigslist inquiry. Especially if she is a sister. Don't ask how I know. I have people. (Shout out to Rippa)

Anyway, all is well that ends well. The congressman did the right thing by all involved and resigned. Let's hope that this is the end of it...

Finally, after seeing this poll, I am happy to announce that there still might be hope for the A-merry-can people. (h/t Greg) I wonder what else the A-merry-can people want that we have been led to believe- in this right leaning media world- that they don't? Tax hikes for rich folks?
Supporting environmental protections? Not cutting social security?
Wow! A-merry-ca is looking better and better every day.

    Maybe CNN will offer him a job with Eliot Spitzer.

    I suffered through Parker/Spitzer tonight, just to see if Eliot would give his "insider's take" on this story.

    They never mentioned a single word about it...

    I live right next to Chris Lee's district, and a number of my coworkers are his constituents. Word around here is that he's been creeping for years, and just never got caught - until now...

    After reading this post on Rep. Christopher Lee, I couldn't help but refer to a couple of sayings by two historical figures whom I'm sure Chris would cite as his heroes.

    "It's the easiest thing in the world for a man to deceive himself.
    ~~~Benjamin Franklin~~
    "Falsehoods not only disagree with truths, but usually quarrel among themselves".
    ~~Daniel Webster~~
    Indeed...a sad state of affairs!
    Some say you can always count on a sex scandal to waylay a Republican politician's career.
    These guys stake their career on gaining the moral high ground with their constituents on issues such as abortion, same sex marriage and abstinence, only to become undone by their own infidelities and sexual peccadilloes.
    Which is why they always have to resign.
    Is your point then, that since Democrat politicians make no pretense of adherence to any standards of personal morality, their constituents don't insist on personal integrity?
    i.e. as long as you sign onto abortion on demand, normalization of homosexuality, and are against counseling restraint to teenagers, you can cheat on your wife.
    kudos for not disconnecting from your manhood and allowing the racist, sexist, bw degrading comments to get through without address.
    Yes, they always resign in disgrace. The point is, if they espouse the same sort of morality they peddle to their constituents, then how come they themselves never seem to be able to adhere to it in their own daily lives? That's where the hypocracy comes in. Republicans package themselves as being the utmost highest moral caliber of politician, so it's little wonder that the people who placed so much stock in their moral rectitude are literally heartbroken when that every same politician does something that is morally or ethically unbecoming.
    As far as Democrats are concerned, morality is a personal issue that's handled largely on an individual level and collectively handled whenever necessary. Republicans seem to operate in the reverse.
    as a BM, if you can sit and listen to folks denigrate women that include your mother, wife, sisters,and daughters SILENTLY then YOU need to fix that. for me, it is impossible to care less about what lying racists have to say. THEIR WOMEN know the deal ALL DAY. they and i know one can be covered in cellulite WITH an extended back, no behind. tara reid's cellulite extended back was prominently featured all over the tabloids. i can see how one can have fat in a fat behind, but an extended back? i would be ticked off at sisters, too. lol. latinas without cellulite. OK. riiiight. i have seen it in arms even. lol. folks need to STOP PLAYING.
    you bmenfolk need to start exercising that muscle of standing up and speaking up when folk come through your womenfolk to challenge your manhood. for real. or not. this is a patriarch. keep acting like delicate little, petulant, undisciplined women and see how far that takes you. shrug.
    AB, your last comment on the post a couple entries back was no joke. i don't think these folks can hear you though. God bless you for continuing to sound the alarm and put it down sis. i changed courses. i want as many bw and girls to come up out of the mess before the peace walls go up. the caste and permanent underclass is well underway. take a peak at congo, s africa, haiti and other places to see what life is like for the women and girls once the destruction and hopelessness has fully taken hold. note who is reaking havoc on these women as well. those places are a trailer for the coming attractions for parts of america. in fact, in some places, it is here already.
Considering you never hesitate to trounce on any Black man for committing the same stupid mistake, it doesn't reflect well on you at all. In fact, it makes your above comment rather disengenuous since you seem fit to bicker with guys like Steve on these issues every day.
    I'm not blaming you or attempting to unload on you because you didn't do "x" or say "y". I'm only pointing out the glaring obviousness in the way you handle attacks on Black women from Black men and attacks on Black women from White men. The difference in the responses are enough to have observers dismiss you as highly hypocritical.
    I'm not even going to touch on your fascination with "ladyboys", nor why you insist on linking Black men's manhood with how well they reflexively agree with and defend you and how often they carry your arguments for you.
    Well, I would submit that 99% do, or at least don't get caught. But I agree with you: If someone establishes a public persona undergirded by personal character, they should suffer the consequences of failing to live up to the standards they themselves have set.
    Adherence to a moral standard isn't always easy; one would expect some failure rate.
    "Looks like the truckload of hyperbole just arrived. Where do I sign?"
    Well, you should at least sign on to your own thesis. Bill Clinton is a prime example of someone who aligned himself with every public initiative designed to assuage groups that he, in his private life, routinely abused. His administration made an early and concerted effort to codify sexual harassment penalties. When he got caught as the perpretrator of a textbook example of sexual harassment, the very groups for which the statutes were a Holy Grail (e.g. NOW) refused to condemn him.
    So what's more honorable, taking responsibility for personal failings, or balancing one's personal failings by granting power to groups most offended by one's actions?
    If I recall, aligning himself with those groups was done out of political expedency -- the whole "triangulation" thing and all. Anyone else can jump in and fill in the details. His constituency managed to seperate his personal dealings from his performance in the Oval Office. Those people were probably appalled when he decided to carry out those dealings in the Oval Office, in the most unprofessional manner possible. And those people still didn't see the need to upend the nation by carrying out a campaign to impeach and remove him from office. Nor did Clinton see any need to resign in order to salvage his image and that of the Democrat party.
    Clinton didn't build up such an iron-clad, squeaky clean image of himself as some sort of infallable family values man. Meanwhile, it's practically required of GOP politicians and its supporters literally eat and sleep those values. They take it a lot harder than Democrats would when their leaders fuck up on that front, hence the need for these men and women to resign in order to salvage the GOP brand. They disconnect themselves and their failings from the brand itself so it stays clean.
    Cheerleading for Clinton when his sexual pecadilloes were on full display hurt NOW's credibility a great deal, AFAIK.
    "So what's more honorable, taking responsibility for personal failings, or balancing one's personal failings by granting power to groups most offended by one's actions?"
    I don't quite get what you mean. "...granting power to groups most offended by one's actions"? So in the case of a sex scandal, instead of resigning, you balance out your fuck-up by granting the family values groups power to flagellate you publicly until your sins are made whole? Perhaps you can clarify the question a bit.
    The Republicans are intent on cutting social programs that would actually benefit our nation's children and grandchildren. These cuts would eventually net less than $100 billion on a $14 trillion-dollar debt that's growing each year.
    Meanwhile, the military budget remains sacrosanct and the Republicans are still intent on giving the top 5% earners tax breaks that would only add to our national debt. If the Republicans were really worried about the future of this country's children and grandchildren, they know exactly where to cut so that it would actually count.
    Ha. "Ladyboy." "Dainty Ladies." It is quite interesting that a self-proclaimed "womanist" (I am sure that you are an acolyte of Alice Walker and Sapphire judging from your writings; most Bitter Black Bitches are) would use such reductionist (homophobic and anti-woman) terms to denigrate a male poster who disagrees with you. I find it interesting that Alicia Banks has not picked up on and challenged this. But, I am sure you get a pass because you, Audiobooks, and AB are bound by your hatred of Black men -- principles be damned! AB is part of an "in crowd" and that is all that matters!"
    You Bitter Black bitches don't need us evil Black men to denigrate you -- you are doing a splendid you yourselves. Brava, Black Bitch, Brava!
    "as a BM, if you can sit and listen to folks denigrate women that include your mother, wife, sisters,and daughters SILENTLY then YOU need to fix that."
    You are quite the petty little bitch aren't you? More homophobia and misogyny. I thought you were for the empowerment of all black women. Yet, you are insulting the man's Black wife. I have been lurking on this blog for a while -- I have never seen UTS' wife post. Why do you feel the need to insult her? That makes you no better than the Black men you castigate.
    Bottom line, you are neither intelligent nor unique. Your kind is a dime a dozen. I am so glad that you are with a white man! You are a nasty piece of work and the race is better off without you.
    I hope that answers Rev. Wrong's concerns as well"
    Yes, I came to the same conclusions long ago. As long as a democrat politician shows obeisance to certain invioable tenets, they have free license to do just about anything and keep their jobs. Run a male prostitution ring out of your Washington townhouse (Barney Frank), have sex with a 17 year old congressional page (Gerry Studds), cheat on your taxes (Chris Dodd, Charlie Rangel, Tim Geithner), line your pockets (William "Cold Cash" Jefferson),etc. etc.
    While I'm sympathetic to the concept that what one does on one's own time that does not affect one's job performance is none of your employers business, don't certain jobs (like congressman or judge, for example) require a high degree of character? Doesn't corruption in one's personal life make corruption in the service of the public more likely?
    And to echo "Bleach" above, holding oneself to a high personal standard is not necessarily "telling the rest of us how to live our personal lives". I'm a libertarian, and I don't think the (federal) government should be outlawing abortion or regulating marriage. But when it comes to telling us how to run our personal lives, the democrats are far and away the worst abusers. From what we can eat, where we can smoke, what we can drive, to what kind of light bulb we can use, they are up in everything.
    To paraphrase someone's quote: Republicans want complete freedom in everything but sexual matters; Democrats want freedom only in sexual matters.
    You live your life just as we tell you and you can do anything you want with your genitals. Is that what freedom is?
    They aren't. One (Kennedy) was arguably an error in judgment, (to err is human) where as the other is just a hypocrite (Craig). Being a hypocrite is the essence of who he is. Besides trying to compare Ted Kennedy with Larry Craig is like trying to compare someone like Larry Bird with any also-ran NBA bench warmer.
    ReplyDelete
  57. UTS: "ROTFLMBAO!!!!!!!!!"
    That's a pretty odd reaction.
    You assign equal moral opprobrium to rumors of a closeted gay lifestyle versus negligently killing someone? And then you roll around on the floor laughing hysterically about it? Sounds pretty crazy to me.
    Ted Kennedy, after an entire day of drinking, snagged a 28 year old staffer and decided to drive her back to his hotel. Drunk as he was, he drove straight off a bridge into 8 feet of water. He got out, but he couldn't get her out, so he went back to the party. He walked past a fire house, but didn't ask for help. He spent that night coming up with a story. When they pulled poor Mary Jo out of the car the next morning, they determined she hadn't actually drowned, rather she asphyxiated. There had been an air pocket in the car, and she probably survived for quite a while, until the oxygen was used up. Had Teddy sought assistance rather than cover up, she might have been saved. That's something far beyond a simple accident, or error in judgement.
    But he was the "Liberal Lion" of the Senate, so I guess you take the good with the bad, huh uptown?
    Field, I was stunned that Lee was sending his pic to a woman. Of legal age. And able to consent.
    Wonder why someone is assuming intent on the part of Ted and Bill...but Larry was just innocently using a mens room when the big bad policeman entrapperated him into sending signals only known to those who frequented mens rooms for purposes of sexual encounters. Gosharooties! What a wily policeman!
    Exactly what is the source for the accusations? Why...can you say wingnuts? Peel back their finely tuned moral outrage and you notice that they are attempting a Breitbart/O'Keefe/Rose scam on you. They accuse...but just a wee bit of due diligence shows that they are quite dishonest and hope that the reader is lazy and stoopid.
    The buffoon who beleveerates that any conglomeration of cells found within a womb is a person shows an ignorance of Science, History, Law, Ethics, and Morality. However, I bet they yell really loud...and easily find the brave heroic courage to do so to a 45 kilo pregnant teenager.
    That wasn't my question, and I don't know. I expect they would have preferred he fade away, which is what in effect happened.
    Was what Larry Craig did that awful? Pathetic maybe, unbecoming of a US Senator, but hardly murder.
    The point was that Republican voters seem to hold their elected officials to a consistent standard of personal conduct (agree with it or not), and that democratic voters don't care as long they pass the litmus test on a select few issues (He's a bastard, but he's our bastard).
    Lee couldn't have made things all better by simply doubling down on commitments to various right wing activist groups. Conversely with democrats, you can (like Robert Byrd) get over your KKK connections by by being on the right side of AA or "hate" crimes issues, or (like Teddy Kennedy) you can pick up a girl and drown her as long as you are for univeral healthcare.
