Congrats to Newt for rising in the republican polls. My man is right up there with Mr. 9-9-9 and Flipper Mitt. It should be interesting to see how they run down the stretch.
Still, Newt might want to stop prepping for his debates against Barack Obama and start figuring out how he is going to get out of his latest little problem.
"..Gingrich said he didn't remember exactly how much he was paid, but a former Freddie Mac official said it was at least $1.5 million for consulting contracts stretching from 1999 to 2007. The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel matter.
Speaking with reporters in Iowa, Gingrich said he provided "strategic advice for a long period of time" after he resigned as House speaker following his party's losses in the 1998 elections. He defended Freddie Mac's role and said, "every American should be interested in expanding housing opportunities." Long unpopular among Republicans, the federally backed mortgage lender has become a focal point of anti-government sentiment because of the housing crisis.
Gingrich said he welcomed scrutiny into the matter. "Everybody will dig up everything they can dig up," he said. "That's fine, they should."
I am glad you welcome the scrutiny Newt, because you are going to get it.
"In 2008, Gingrich suggested in a Fox News interview that then-presidential candidate Barack Obama should have to return campaign contributions he had received from executives of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. He said that in a debate with Obama, GOP presidential nominee John McCain "should have turned and said, `Senator Obama, are you prepared to give back all the money that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae gave you?'"
Ahhhm.....
"Gingrich's history at Freddie Mac began in 1999, when he was hired by the company's top lobbyist, Mitchell Delk. He was brought in for strategic consulting, primarily on legislative and regulatory issues, the company said at the time. That job, which paid about $25,000 to $30,000 a month, lasted until sometime in 2002.
In 2006, Gingrich was hired again on a two-year contract that paid him $300,000 annually, again to provide strategic advice while the company fended off attacks from the right wing of the Republican Party.
Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae for years had been under scrutiny from Republicans on Capitol Hill who opposed government involvement in the mortgage business and wanted to scale back the companies' size and impose tough regulation."
Ahhhm...
"In last Wednesday's Republican presidential debate, Gingrich sought to explain his role at Freddie Mac as that of an "historian" sounding dire warnings about the company's future. He said Freddie Mac officials told him "we are now making loans to people that have no credit history and have no record of paying back anything, but that's what the government wants us to do." He said his advice was to tell them, "this is insane."
"I said at the time, this is a bubble ... this is impossible. It turned out unfortunately I was right," Gingrich said.
Former Freddie Mac executives dispute Gingrich's description of his role.
Four people close to Freddie Mac say he was hired to strategize with his employer about identifying political friends on Capitol Hill who would help the company through a very difficult legislative environment. All four people spoke on condition of anonymity to be able to discuss the personnel matter freely.
Freddie Mac executives hoped that would speak positively about the company and its business model as he circulated among conservative groups and help to build intellectual support within his party.
Freddie Mac executives were looking to Gingrich to offer up new, inventive ways to think about old problems, the officials said, but that didn't materialize." [Source]
Ahhhm....
"He said his consulting firm, Gingrich Group, offered “strategic advice for a lot of different companies” but that he had done no lobbying.
One GOP rival, Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, wasted no time in slamming Gingrich on Wednesday for "shilling" for the company.
Last week, Gingrich was asked at a GOP debate in Michigan what work he had done to secure a $300,000 payment from Freddie Mac.
“I offered them advice on precisely what they didn’t do,” he replied. “My advice as a historian, when they walked in and said to me, ‘We are now making loans to people who have no credit history and have no record of paying back anything, but that’s what the government wants us to do.’ As I said to them at the time, this is a bubble. This is insane. This is impossible.”
A Bloomberg News story earlier this week disputed Gingrich’s account, saying that those familiar with Gingrich’s work don’t recall any warnings about the company’s business model—and that instead, his job was to rally support for Freddie Mac among Republicans in Washington." [Source]
Historian?! Is that what they call pimps on K Street these days? Nice.
Jack Abramoff, of all people, called Newt corrupt. That's like being called a racist by David Duke.
Newt, enjoy your time at the top of the polls, I am guessing that you won't be there very long.
God must want Barack Obama to win a second term because this field of losers opposing him wouldn't exist given the crappy economy.
ReplyDeleteWhat uptownsteve said.
ReplyDeleteWish I knew how to say it in Cuban.
It's Newt's turn to shine. And he'll most likely keep shining until a few weeks before Super Tuesday. Then the spotlight will fall on Mitt Romney, the guy the GOP really wanted to nominate.
ReplyDeleteUntil then, Romney's been out of the spotlight and out from major scrutiny. Then again, so was Jon Huntsman.
Actually, it'll be a twist to see Huntsman win the nomination. After all, at least he isn't a Mormon.
Here is the situation with the "Bum of the Month" in the Republican presidential primary campaign.
ReplyDelete(1) White Bible Belt Republicans will never accept a Mormon as their Presidential candidate. They view him as one of "satan's agents".
(2) The super wealthy right wing oligarchy (Koch Brothers, Corporations, and other Billionairs) want Romney as the Presidential candidate. Since they control the MSM, they are pitching the propaganda that all the other Republican Presidental candidates are simply opportunist Con-men/Con-women out to make a fast buck and hence are unelectable in the general election.
However this message is not reaching the individual Republicans in local communities across America. It certainly is being steadfastly rejected by the white Southern Bible Belt population.
(3) Finally, the Republican strategists belive that the ALEC voter suppression laws enacted into law in 30 states across the nation will be so effective that they will slash more than 50% of the potential vote off the Democratic vote column on a nationwide basis. With these ALEC voter suppression laws in place, the Republican strategists believe that even Homer Simpson would be elected if he were the official Republican Presidential candidate.
These three status observations have been hung on the doors of the "National Gate". It is up to the Democratic Party to take up the measure of their political enemies and turn it to their advantage. Time will tell and time is running out.
Grifterich is a less serious presidential candidate than the Hermincaine. He is irrelevant to the very race he's purportedly leading except that like cain, he makes Magicpants so appealing in comparison.

But hey, it worked on Field and Mack Lyons quite easily. They didn't even ask for a "link" for backup. But since when were either right about anything?
Please remember this date and comments because you three are ABSOLUTELY WRONG about the GOP Presidential nomination. I want you to eat your words.
But again, you have rarely been right about anything about the GOP anyway. You keep wasting your life on piles of your own ignorance, which you mistake for knowledge. Is it any wonder the Democrats end up on the losing end in the end?

First, Newt is not going to be the nominee.
Second, Obama would never bring up Fannie and Freddie in a debate. They got away with fooling the public that these were not subsidiaries of (and slush funds for) the Democratic party, and if they are smart they will never bring them up again.

Oh Lawd--What was that all about???
Someone should have consulted with her on how to act when you're standing by your sorry butt man!
And yes Mrs. Cain, your husband has a split personality. The one he shows his family and the one when he's on the road and attending affairs/dinners/social gatherings without you.
Cain is in the same ditch with Perry now and shouldn't allow interviewers to ask him salient questions that someone running for President should have some intelligent responses to.
Newt has too many skeletons in his closet & his foes are already cleaning them out. He also forgets what he says in different venues--some consistency Newt!!
Carolyn Moon, "Someone should have consulted with her on how to act when you're standing by your sorry butt man!"
ReplyDeleteWell, how should she have acted MRS. Moon, since you know so much about it.
Imo, the Republicans can't lose in 2012, whether a Republican gets into office or Obama gets re-elected. Obama has already proven that he is a Democratic President who acts and thinks like a Republican. Therefore, the Republicans win either way.
ReplyDeleteThe question is how smart are the American voters? If the last mid-term election is any indication, they will vote to their own detriment.
However, in 2012 it won't matter who they vote for because the result will be the same. America is in big trouble when it comes to leadership.
I love it, when I saw the poll numbers with Newt Leading today I said, yup liberal whackos will be on the march and here goes and switches and follows orders on que.

ReplyDeleteJust because the Democrats continually shoot themselves in the foot, doesn't mean they are addicted to it. But history shows they sure seem addicted to losing.
When they were the majority in BOTH Houses they couldn't pass anything. They are nothing but talkers and liars(re:Obama and CHANGE).
Just think. Democratic executives at Freddie Mac paid Newt Gingrich to help them improve their image among Republicans. LOL
ReplyDeleteInstead, Newt took them to the cleaners. It reminds me of Obama trying to going to the Republicans for support.
Will Democrats ever learn? I don't think so. They seem to have something missing upstairs or a "fool" gene in their brain. SMH
Of course, this post missed that point. That's because it was written by a leftist who is blaming the Republican when he should be blaming the Democratic fools for hiring Newt. Really...how stupid can you be?

Actually, Governor Jindal has been doing a great job in a state that has its challenges. He remains very popular.
If you remember, right after he was sworn in, he was given the honor of providing the Republican rebuttal to the SOTU address, and was ripped for his awkward delivery, kind of shelving that presidential talk for a while.
So he's been just doing his job and gaining experience, and he'll be available down the road.

ReplyDeleteAttorney General Eric Holder: Tim Geithner can be sure he won't be hounded about his tax-dodging by his colleague Eric Holder, US Attorney General. Judicial Watch strongly opposed Holder because of his terrible ethics record, which includes: obstructing an FBI investigation of the theft of nuclear secrets from Los Alamos Nuclear Laboratory; rejecting multiple requests for an independent counsel to investigate alleged fundraising abuses by then-Vice President Al Gore in the Clinton White House; undermining the criminal investigation of President Clinton by Kenneth Starr in the midst of the Lewinsky investigation; and planning the violent raid to seize then-six-year-old Elian Gonzalez at gunpoint in order to return him to Castro's Cuba. Moreover, there is his soft record on terrorism. Holder bypassed Justice Department procedures to push through Bill Clinton's scandalous presidential pardons and commutations, including for 16 members of FALN, a violent Puerto Rican terrorist group that orchestrated approximately 120 bombings in the United States, killing at least six people and permanently maiming dozens of others, including law enforcement officers. His record in the current administration is no better. As he did during the Clinton administration, Holder continues to ignore serious incidents of corruption that could impact his political bosses at the White House. For example, Holder has refused to investigate charges that the Obama political machine traded VIP access to the White House in exchange for campaign contributions – a scheme eerily similar to one hatched by Holder's former boss, Bill Clinton in the 1990s. The Holder Justice Department also came under fire for dropping a voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party. On Election Day 2008, Black Panthers dressed in paramilitary garb threatened voters as they approached polling stations. Holder has also failed to initiate a comprehensive Justice investigation of the notorious organization ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), which is closely tied to President Obama. There were allegedly more than 400,000 fraudulent ACORN voter registrations in the 2008 campaign. And then there were the journalist videos catching ACORN Housing workers advising undercover reporters on how to evade tax, immigration, and child prostitution laws. Holder's controversial decisions on new rights for terrorists and his attacks on previous efforts to combat terrorism remind many of the fact that his former law firm has provided and continues to provide pro bono representation to terrorists at Guantanamo Bay. Holder's politicization of the Justice Department makes one long for the days of Alberto Gonzales.

President Barack Obama: During his presidential campaign, President Obama promised to run an ethical and transparent administration. However, in his first year in office, the President has delivered corruption and secrecy, bringing Chicago-style political corruption to the White House. Consider just a few Obama administration "lowlights" from year one: Even before President Obama was sworn into office, he was interviewed by the FBI for a criminal investigation of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich's scheme to sell the President's former Senate seat to the highest bidder. (Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and slumlord Valerie Jarrett, both from Chicago, are also tangled up in the Blagojevich scandal.) Moreover, the Obama administration made the startling claim that the Privacy Act does not apply to the White House. The Obama White House believes it can violate the privacy rights of American citizens without any legal consequences or accountability. President Obama boldly proclaimed that "transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency," but his administration is addicted to secrecy, stonewalling far too many of Judicial Watch's Freedom of Information Act requests and is refusing to make public White House visitor logs as federal law requires. The Obama administration turned the National Endowment of the Arts (as well as the agency that runs the AmeriCorps program) into propaganda machines, using tax dollars to persuade "artists" to promote the Obama agenda. According to documents uncovered by Judicial Watch, the idea emerged as a direct result of the Obama campaign and enjoyed White House approval and participation. President Obama has installed a record number of "czars" in positions of power. Too many of these individuals are leftist radicals who answer to no one but the president. And too many of the czars are not subject to Senate confirmation (which raises serious constitutional questions). Under the President's bailout schemes, the federal government continues to appropriate or control — through fiat and threats — large sectors of the private economy, prompting conservative columnist George Will to write: "The administration's central activity — the political allocation of wealth and opportunity — is not merely susceptible to corruption, it is corruption." Government-run healthcare and car companies, White House coercion, uninvestigated ACORN corruption, debasing his office to help Chicago cronies, attacks on conservative media and the private sector, unprecedented and dangerous new rights for terrorists, perks for campaign donors — this is Obama's "ethics" record — and we haven't even gotten through the first year of his presidency.

If you want to compare Somalia to any U.S city do just that - any U.S city under democratic control of tax and spend - Like Detroit and the majority of major inner cities. They look a lot like Somalia and have the same finances, education levels, crime levels, poverty levels, corrupt democratic warlords in charge etc.
Lehman Brothers collapse is traced back to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the two big mortgage banks that got a federal bailout a few weeks ago.
ReplyDeleteFreddie and Fannie used huge lobbying budgets and political contributions to keep regulators off their backs.
A group called the Center for Responsive Politics keeps track of which politicians get Fannie and Freddie political contributions. The top three U.S. senators getting big Fannie and Freddie political bucks were Democrats and No. 2 is Sen. Barack Obama.

A free, democratic country needs an educated, civilized, culturally-capable populace to function and prosper.
Somalia meets none of those requirements.
And to your point, Somalia is not the kind of Constitutional Republic based on the rule of law and the guarantee of natural rights that Republicans favor. It is an anarchic, Third World shithole, based primarily on religious law (Sharia).
As America imports more and more Third world peoples, we will become less and less capable of being a functioning Constitutional Republic.
Those places in America that resemble Somalia the most are those with the highest percentage of documented (e.g. Detroit) and undocumented (e.g. East Los Angeles) democrats.
Republicans are the only thing standing between people like you and the long slide into the abyss.

ReplyDelete"Birmingham-based firms compose almost 90 percent of the Bloomberg Economic Evaluation of States’ Alabama stock index, based on market capitalization."
------------
Birmingham was once home to six Fortune 500 companies (as late as 1999), but now only is home to one.
Birmingham is 73 percent Black, home to some of the scariest neighborhoods in America. After a horrible Black-on-white rape incident back in the 1970s, Birmingham Southern College had to erect a fence around the school to keep out unwanted elements of the Black Undertow. Worse, Birmingham lost the Iron Bowl college football game between Auburn and Alabama, because Legion Field is located (like many big cities stadiums) in an area of town where Black crime is as ubiquitous as college recruiters looking for the next Tiger or Crimson Tide receiver or running back.
The costs of doing business in Birmingham are too great for Fortune 500 companies to risk investing in the city any further: the overall safety of their employees can’t be guaranteed and the corruption, courtesy of the Black Undertow government in control of Birmingham, is worse than Atlanta. Regions Bank, the last Fortune 500 company left, must be considering a move to Charlotte by now.
So, actually fool, in truth Birmingham is becoming like Somalia because of democrat policies such as:
1. High taxes
2. Big government
3. Excessive regulation
4. Municipal gun control
5. An out of control EPA
6. 100% public sector run
7. Free healthcare at the ER
8. Liberal-dominated education system
9. Corruption-induced bankruptcy.

Governor Robert Bentley might be near the top of the list.

I really think most of us love not being you. I do.
And is "academic acumen" your code phrase for "career failure"? I am pretty sure any profession would be challenging to you.
Especially medicine.
You will never be a doctor.

ReplyDeleteYou are right about Cain and Gingrich, but Huntsman is too liberal.
And I know Perry is out of it after his debate performances, but this latest ad is fucking great:
http://youtu.be/8_NJgKoBERM
He actually uses the word "pathetic" in talking about Obama.
And calls hima a socialist.
LOL.
flyover roy,
ReplyDeleteHuntsman is preparing for the primaries. He's got an excellent message and superb credentials.
He's like Romney, only younger.
Moreover, the country could learn something from Utah and the Mormons.
Healthcare statistics show that overall health is best in Utah.
Why? Because Mormons opppose smoking, drinking alcohol, and drinking coffee. Their pro-active healthy-living approach to life has paid off in low demand for healthcare services that are incurred by smokers and drinkers.
In short, if the people of America want to see their healthcare bill DROP by ONE-THIRD, all it takes is to quit smoking, cut back on the drinking, eating sensibly and getting a little exercise.
There. Follow my advice and save the nation TRILLIONS of dollars.
amen!
ReplyDeletesanta axed hobama's bs...until 2012!!!
Document of the day: The Federal Register Thursday carries a notice from the U.S. Department of Agriculture formally withdrawing the proposed 15-cent federal surcharge on fresh Christmas trees.
Just last week, critics pounced on the fee, labeling it as a 'Christmas tree tax.' In pre-election, rapid-response mode, the Obama administration did a same-news-cycle about-face on the fee, which was set to take effect on November 9—just in time for the holiday season. The administration "indefinitely stayed" the new charge, which was technically not a tax but an agricultural promotion assessment designed to encourage the purchase of live trees at Christmastime.
"While we are confident that the Christmas Tree program is compliant with all applicable law and supported by the domestic Christmas tree industry, the program will be stayed to provide additional time for the Department to reach out to the Christmas Tree industry and the public to explain how a research and promotion program is a producer driven program to support American farmers," Agricultural Marketing Service Acting Administrator David Shipman wrote in the notice published Thursday.

No thanks. I like beer too much.
I once heard a Russian guy interviewed on the street by CNN soon after the fall of the Iron Curtain. The reporter, Jeanne Moos, was aghast at the Russian proclivity for eating basically blubber and salt between cigarettes and washing it down with liters of vodka.
When asked how he could pursue such an unhealthy lifestyle, he said: "Good health is not the most important thing in life. It is for a donkey, but for people, not so much".
Unlike donkeys, we know our time will come to an end. There is a balance between extending your time and enjoying your time. That's why I am not a Mormon.
hobama and GE make newt look like a corp dole slacker
ReplyDeleteGeneral Electric, one of the largest corporations in America, filed a whopping 57,000-page federal tax return earlier this year but didn't pay taxes on $14 billion in profits. The return, which was filed electronically, would have been 19 feet high if printed out and stacked.
The fact that GE paid no taxes in 2010 was widely reported earlier this year, but the size of its tax return first came to light when House budget committee chairman Paul Ryan (R, Wisc.) made the case for corporate tax reform at a recent townhall meeting. "GE was able to utilize all of these various loopholes, all of these various deductions--it's legal," Ryan said. Nine billion dollars of GE's profits came overseas, outside the jurisdiction of U.S. tax law. GE wasn't taxed on $5 billion in U.S. profits because it utilized numerous deductions and tax credits, including tax breaks for investments in low-income housing, green energy, research and development, as well as depreciation of property.

ReplyDeleteNo thanks. I like beer too much.
A few beers are no problem. It's the combo of too many beers, cigarettes, bad food and no exercise that kills people expensively.
Too few have a heart attack and die. Instead, they have a cardiac "episode" followed by heart bypass surgery for $100,000. Then they die of COPD, after many more years of expensive treatment.
You get the pricture. You don't need to live like a monk. And nothing is as dreary, sad and depressing as dying slowly because your lungs absorb less and less oxygen until you have to live with that plastic tube running under your nose, and then your lungs lose more of their function until you finally suffocate in bed.
It's not pretty, and it's not fun for the whole family.

Ummm...hun using the wrong word isn't a spelling issue. It's an edumacational issue. You have proven time and time again you have the IQ of a slug and the ghetto hoocie mama culture to go along with it.
couple of tips for you, suddenly finding yourself the proud owner of a past white status symbol doesn't mean you now have class. It means it no longer is elegant or classy if someone like you can drive one. Similar to Caddy Escalades and hummers. You can put the ghetto hoodrat hoochie momma in a german car but you will never be able to get the stank out afterwards.

You see that is not classy at all. One fat blubberish ho making fun of another woman who is also fat.
You will never be a Queen or a Doctor although I heard an oltimer say a few times that someone like you would be Queen of the shithouse, that kinda fits.
Boy, the onle HO-LE in this piece is the one your boyfriend left in the distal end of your colon.
