Representing the "phenomenon of demographic change."

This Sandy is no Joke. Watching my Mayor now as he declares a state of emergency for the city. All you republicans who hate the government, I sure hope that you will not be needing the services of FEMA or any other government agency. Ask the folks at Bain Capital to give you a low interest loan to fix up your home.

I don't have time to do much writing tonight, but I read a wonderful article from Eugene Robinson of the Washington Post that I would love to share.

"This election is only tangentially a fight over policy. It is also a fight about meaning and identity — and that’s one reason voters are so polarized. It’s about who we are and who we aspire to be.

President Obama enters the final days of the campaign with a substantial lead among women — about 11 points, according to the latest Washington Post/ABC News poll — and enormous leads among Latinos and African Americans, the nation’s two largest minority groups. Mitt Romney leads among white voters, with an incredible 2-to-1 advantage among white men.

It is too simplistic to conclude that demography equals destiny. Both men are being sincere when they vow to serve the interests of all Americans. But it would be disingenuous to pretend not to notice the obvious cleavage between those who have long held power in this society and those who are beginning to attain it.

When Republicans vow to “take back our country,” they never say from whom. But we can guess.

Issues of race, power and privilege are less explicit this year than they were in 2008, but in some ways they are even stronger.

Four years ago, we asked ourselves whether the nation would ever elect a black president. The question was front and center. Every time we see the president and his family walk across the White House lawn to board Marine One, we’re reminded of the answer.

The intensity of the opposition to Obama has less to do with who he is than with the changes in U.S. society he not only represents but incarnates. Citing his race as a factor in the way some of his opponents have bitterly resisted his policies immediately draws an outraged cry: “You’re saying that just because I oppose Obama, I’m a racist.” No, I’m not saying that at all.

What I’m saying is that Obama’s racial identity is a constant reminder of how much the nation has changed in a relatively short time. In my lifetime, we’ve experienced the civil rights movement, the countercultural explosion of the 1960s, the sexual revolution, the women’s movement and an unprecedented wave of Latino immigration. Within a few decades, there will be no white majority in this country — no majority of any kind, in fact. We will be a nation of racial and ethnic minorities, and we will only prosper if everyone learns to give and take.

Our place in the world has changed as well. The United States remains the dominant economic and military power; our ideals remain a beacon for those around the globe still yearning to breathe free. But our capacity for unilateral action is diminished; we can assert but not dictate, and we must learn to persuade.

Obama’s great sin, for some who oppose him, is to make it impossible to ignore these domestic and international megatrends. Take one look at Obama and the phenomenon of demographic change is inescapable. Observe his approach to international crises in places such as Libya or Syria and the reality of America’s place in the world is unavoidable.

I’m deliberately leaving aside what should be the biggest factor in the election: Obama’s policies. It happens that I have supported most of them, but of course there are legitimate reasons to favor Romney’s proposals, insofar as we know what they really are — and the extent to which they really differ from Obama’s.
In foreign affairs, judging by Monday’s debate, the differences are too small to discern; Romney promises to speak in a louder voice and perhaps deploy more battleships, but that’s about it. Domestically, however, I see a clear choice. I consider the Affordable Care Act a great achievement, and Romney’s promise to repeal it would alone be reason enough for me to oppose him. Add in the tax cuts for the wealthy, the plan to “voucherize” Medicare and the appointments Romney would likely make to the Supreme Court, and the implications of this election become even weightier.

Issues may explain our sharp political divisions, but they can’t be the cause of our demographic polarization. White men need medical care, too. African Americans and Latinos understand the need to get our fiscal house in order. The recession and the slow recovery have taken a toll across the board. Some of Obama’s opponents have tried to delegitimize his presidency because he doesn’t embody the America they once knew. He embodies the America of now." [Source]

I was recently at a suburban gym getting my workout on, and a middle aged white lady and her friend were running on the treadmill across the way from me. I caught a little of her conversation because she was actually being quite loud, and every now and then she would furtively glance in my direction.

"I am so mad at my kids. They didn't even register to vote. I told them that we need them to help us beat this man; he is destroying the country." Her friend was nodding the entire time.

"Ruining the country"? You gotta love Americans.  From the looks of her and her surroundings, I would be willing to take a bet that she will survive. She should be more worried about Hurricane Sandy than she is Barack at this point.

I suppose my tax dollars are helping to publish it, assuming they get the religious tax exemption. What a crock. And i do mean it was a piece of trash.

Dear Mr. Field, December is approaching and so will be the time for renewal with Anon Inc for the year 2013. Anon Inc has put forth great effort during this year to provide as many anons as possible. I think you will agree that this goal has been reached.

This coming year we are offering you "two" choices instead of one as in the past.

One choice is to continue your contract as is. With this contract we will beef up the number of anons on FN blog so that the number of hits on FN will surpass everyone in the blogosphere. There will be a nominal increase in fees, versus the second choice, which will be a little bit more.

With your second choice you get only the best of the best of anons on FN! Of course, the fee will be a little higher but I assure you it will be worth it because we filter out 10% more racist anons, both Black and White, than the first choice.

Either way, you will enjoy top notch anons on FN blog!!

As always, it is a pleasure to serve you.

    Sincerely,
    President
    Anon, Inc.

PS. Don't wait too long to sign up. There are many bloggers standing in line for our services.

Field said, "Ask the folks at Bain Capital to give you a low interest loan to fix up your home."

It's funny that you mention this because I did just that the other day. I also let Bain know that I was an African American married to a Latino.

And guess what? Mitt personally saw to it that I got the loan at NO interest! I was floored.

Now that's a man with a heart who can be my President any day. Field, take another look at Mitt. Can't you see that he is a black man in white skin?

Perhaps, to the woman, Mr Obama is indeed destroying what she assumed was "her" country. It must be a horrible, terrible awfully bad day when an AfAm can run for President...win...and not one of her kids worries.

If being pale is all that matters...what about Brietbart, OKeefe, Akin, Mourdock, Sununu, bush, Santorum, Ryan, Kasich, Scott, Palin(s), Christie.....?

But then, I don't suckle at the Kochs for my income...and would not fret if all wingnut welfare dried up and all the recipients had to find real jobs.

Not for or against "Churches" but have to clear up one common Democrat misconception. Not taking someone else's money does not cost YOU anything, it is not YOUR money. Someone donated to that Church, not to you. What costs you money is Obama wasting, spending and spending. A tax decreas is not Spending, it is what should be, allowing people to keep money they have earned without threat of jail. I for one am tired of paying for all the corruption, big goverment, liberal limousines and private planes and cronyism. Reduce spending, stop the bleeding.

There has never, ever, ever been a time when increased taxes resulted in less spending ,the more you give government the more they spend and largely waste.

  12. Willing to elect...unwilling to be led. Now that the dirty work has been done, it time to return the country back to the heir appearant. I have wondered at what time period would the country return to. This country have always had struggles in good times as well as bad times. Brother Robinson points to how we as a country have become so divided around this historical first. I recall Sean Hannity stating that President Obama was "the worst president of all times" in his first months in office. Brother Field...you know my trust index is very low--I say they (the "we" in the conversation) killed two birds with one stone. Got the "race monkey" off their backs as well as having a foil for any future mishaps. So Mr. Mitt....enjoy your clean slate with excuses galore on hand. You noticed I gave the office to Mr. Mitt...it goes along with my thought process. Sandy has just picked up in our AO...Prayers to all during the hurricane period.

Whitey you just summed up why Obama is going to lose and precisely why most of us have had enough of the demands of your type.

Everyone else doesn't exist to anticipate and meet your needs. Your need doesn't require someone else take care of it. That's exactly what you expect when you say "what do you need"

Rather we all should/will be saying, how can we help each other - not just meet the needs of people who think like you.

When people think like you, many wind up with needs and demands and forget they also need to provide to others who have needs. If you take and tear down the society that provides....what exactly are you contributing and why would anyone owe you a thing?

benghazi will not go away because we now know that the negro in charge knew what was going on and refused to let any one send help.there were two spectre gun ships ready to go but bongo said no,mean while two cia seals went to the aid of the counslate where the rescued 30 people.all this time j.fred muggs said no then when gen ham said he was sending aid any way the negro in charge relieved him of command.they have lied about every thing, why do you think that is?was it because hilldabeast with drew security forces even though they knew of increasing attacks.two brave men gave their lives to protect americans, why did the negro in charge says no help for you whitey. no matter who is president we are headed for a rescission because of the negro in charge. because of him prices will sky rocket your money will be worth less and of course you will blame bush because you can not admit that it is your fault.the socialist democrats caused the melt down and the rescission. i don't care because i bought land, guns and gold.i can't wait to see how negroes act in this storm.

  17. 4 reasons the storm hurts Rmoney/helps Obama:

    1. Heavily Democratic urban polling places are within convenient walking distance of while heavily Ripofiklan rural polling places are remote and transport dependent. Anything that makes travel more difficult disproportionately reduces rural turnout over urban.

    2. Rawmoney needs a big new narrative that scramble the dynamic (= to the 1st debate) in order to bounce the 2-3% to actually compete in the upper midwest battlegrounds without which he will lose. The storm, however, freezes the current campaign narrative in place until at least midweek in the final week.

    3. Everyone (except college ripoffiklans, koch suckers and bitter old white men) supports government relief after disasters, but Robme, being both a koch sucker and a bitter old white man, has a video clip of him proposing to block-grant disaster relief and wash the federal government's hands of it making the rounds on the internets and cable news.

    4. You can't campaign during a disaster without looking like a complete cynic. Both campaigns have therefore suspended, leaving Willard beached and Obama Commander in Chief of the response.

Poor old Mutt, he coulda been a contender, all that he needed was a personality and some core beliefs.

It's called the constitution and the states should be handling their own, it's their money after all. They don't need to create a jobs program for idiots in washington for waste and fraud and to employ otherwise unemployables.

Say Goodbye very soon to the EU adios Spain, Greece France, Italy and all those other failed socialist economies. I will certainly defer to Eugene Robinson's journalistic statesmanship. After all the brother is a pulitzer prize winner for Journalism. Hence I cannot disagree with his proposition that many white American citizens are intensely aware that time is fast moving the white American population to minority status in this country.

For a case in point consider Mr. Shahid Khan the new owner of the AFC football team, tne Jacksonville Jaguars. Mr. Khan is a brown Pakistani immigrant and naturalized citizen who happens to be a self-made billionare with an unstoppable thirst for life and its opportunities. I am certain that many of the Jaguar white male fans are in full agreement with Mr. Robinson's thesis chronicling the current appearance of dwindling white power in America.

However, it is still my opinion that many white male Jaguar fans along with millions more white male football fans articulate their feelings of resentment on a purely raw emotional racially driven basis, rather than analyzing their observations from a detached intellectual perspective.

Unfortunately the white male voter (most of which are overwhelmingly for the election of the "white guy", Mitt Romney) are still mentally bound to 19th and 20th century societal values, and as a result continue to define the social structure of America in the stark terms of "black" and "white".

Whereas in reality as America moves into the 21st century the demographics of the nation is fast moving away from a European majority demographic structure to a truly ethnically and globally diverse majority structure. It is not a question of America becoming less white; rather it is a fact that America has become predominately more ethnically and globally diverse in terms of its population demographics. To get a clear picture of this trend white males should pay greater attention to the wide ethnic diversity among the new American citizens being sworn in every day.

I can't help but think that racist and right wing forces are behind the above comment and many others that are galvanizing to unseat the President. If what you say is true...it would be far worse if a Mitt Romney got in the White House. This makes no sense to me to fight to get Obama out and put someone in who would be cataclysmic to say the least. This is especially directed towards the black left and the Hobama adversaries. Something is not right about all this and I hope and pray that Mitt doesn't win for all our asses and that of many global communities are up the creek!!
