"An Applebee's New York area franchisee is the latest CEO to go public threatening drastic plans to avoid costs associated with the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare.
"We've calculated it will [cost] some millions of dollars across our system. So what does that say -- that says we won't build more restaurants. We won't hire more people," Zane Tankel, chairman and CEO of Apple-Metro, told Fox Business Network on Thursday.
Apple-Metro, which runs 40 Applebee's restaurants, employs from 80 to 300 people at each of its locations. Obamacare mandates that businesses with more than 50 workers must offer an approved insurance plan or pay a penalty of $2,000 for each full-time worker over 30 workers.
Most small businesses with 50 or more employees already do offer health insurance, notes John Arensmeyer, CEO and founder of Small Business Majority, a national small business advocacy organization. But restaurant chains typically are among the sliver of businesses not offering insurance to workers. Other food chains have commented publicly that they would take strong measures to avoid the effects of Obamacare, but so far none of them have taken that action." [Source]
Ahh what the hell, if we are lucky all the Applebee's will close down and we will get new restaurants in their place with food that actually tastes good.
But I guess these guys with money all tend yo have a certain way about them.
I mean look what Flipper did after he lost the election:
"Mitt Romney delayed conceding the 2012 election to President Barack Obama, even with the writing on the wall. Once he admitted defeat, however, his campaign went into shutdown mode, quickly dismantling and even canceling the credit cards of campaign aides late on election night.
NBC's Garrett Haake described the abrupt transition of the Romney campaign after the GOP nominee gave his brief concession speech:
From the moment Mitt Romney stepped off stage Tuesday night, having just delivered a brief concession speech he wrote only that evening, the massive infrastructure surrounding his campaign quickly began to disassemble itself. So O cried with his campaign workers and Flipper canceled the credit cards of his. Now if that ain't a synopsis of this entire campaign, I don't know what is.
Aides taking cabs home late that night got rude awakenings when they found the credit cards linked to the campaign no longer worked." [Source]
Field, although I got the impression you don't much care for Obama, I do hope you didn't like Romney either.
ReplyDeleteRomney would have been an absolute disaster for this country.

Why the Republiklkan can't reform in the near future, but might in a generation, because:
"Lightening up on immigration won't be enough. Like it or not, conservatives are going to need a much more thorough housecleaning if they want to survive in an increasingly diverse future. No more gratuitous ethnic mockery. No more pretense that reverse racism is the real racism. No more suggestions that minorities just want a handout. No more screeching about the incipient threat of Sharia law. No more saturation coverage of the pathetic New Black Panther(s). No more complaining that blacks get to use the N word but whites don't. No more summers of hate on Fox News. No more tolerance for Dinesh D'Souza and his "roots of Obama's rage" schtick; or for Glenn Beck saying Obama has a "deep-seated hatred of white people"; or for Rush Limbaugh claiming that "Obama's entire economic program is reparations." No more jeering at the mere concept of "diversity." And no more too-clever-by-half attempts to say all this stuff without really saying it, and then pretending to be shocked when you're called on it. In other words: new messaging on the same old program is a non starter: you've goy to change who you are. This kind of an identity-transplant; one that will let them adopt a completely new program, only happens generationally. In the mean time, they'll slowly become an ever-more regional party with fewer and fewer realistic aspirations for national power, until, eventually, the demographic changes that finally brought the national Democrats out of the political wilderness eventually, inevitably, do the same for the
Too much crap in here to bother with. But once again leftists prove how out of touch and touched in the head they are.
The last thing we want to do is become leeching, lying, pandering , weak , insane, up is down , down is up, everything you say is good anything anyone else says is racist mentally imbalanced, crazy , lazy , demanding freaks like you.
Look at you, a little voter fraud and you are just convinced that 6% of a race (you know felons and children can't vote) actually won an election and you think now you can keep spewing your insane agenda and demand others lose all standards and deny reality. We don't wan California, detroit or any other city you nutjobs are in charge of. YOU don't want it only you want the immature lifestyle of free stuff, bad decisions and someone else picking up the pieces. Nope, conservatism is all that will save this country - coming soon to a bankrupt, entitled, crime ridden, racist rat infested, illegal alien welfare reciepient mo free stuff den near you.
You are a disgusting thing with disgusting lack of morals, standards and values - don't kid yourself no one and I do mean no one wants to be anything like you or your party.
Imagine - do it my way even if we know it's disgusting and will destroy the country or we will demand you take care of us more.
White Disingenuous Liberals - You deserve all the pain and hate you obviously experienced your whole life.
Affirmative action should end. No more gratuitous racism and ethnic mockery. Do you mean we have to deny reality even more and make up for the horrors that are caused in society from your kind even more?
Screw you and the diaper you rode in on, you aren't strong enough, skilled enough or intelligent enough to make a go of it without conservatives.
Look field is already saying the guys who built businesses and made it are "meanies" because they won't get raped by the entitlement culture.
The ACA doesn't say that only Applebees, of all of the purveyors of overpriced bland dinerish food must contribute to it's employees health insurance; it says that they ALL must. If Applebees can't compete on that level playing field, no problem, capitalism tells us that someone else, just a little bit hungrier to succeed will. I lived in Japan (Okinawa actually, kinda like Japan's Puerto Rico) for 5 years and even though all of the American fast food outlets there had to pay a living wage and employee health insurance premiums, the slop cost about the same as when I traveled to the States or the Philippines where they paid far less (about 1/2 in the States 1/50 in PI.
ReplyDeleteDear Liberals - If you are upset about companies going to PT to avoid Obamacare, you should have read the law before you passed it.
ReplyDeleteFewer working hours = less income = lower tax receipts = bigger deficit. Fewer working hours = less income = more welfare oh and add in another tax to the job creators and take it away sam.
Obama didn't tell you foodstamp use went up another 41% right before the election did he? Not that it matters you airheads think the well is endless and we aren't scraping bottom, you can just force people to give you more...uh-huh....
Voting for revenge might just turn out to be not such a hot idea - and cause havoc as most liberal ideas do.

ReplyDeleteSPOT ON OBSERVATION.
Papa John's CEO complains bitterly that he will have add 16 cents to the price of each crappy pizza. Between New York City & Philly, I don't understand how Papa John's can even survive here. Great pizza everywhere & still all the lousy chains get business.

ReplyDeleteBob, that is a great point; the slop they serve should be illegal on the East coast.
I can't remember if I posted this before, if so, I apologize though it is worth reading twice. It's a German article by Jakob Augstein on the state of America leading up to last week's election. One of the best things I've read for a while on Europe's total bafflement on the subject of America.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spiegel.de/international/world/commentary-total-capitalism-and-the-downfall-of-america-a-865437.html
Here's the opening third of it for the 'time poor' amongst you.
"The United States Army is developing a weapon that can reach -- and destroy -- any location on Earth within an hour. At the same time, power lines held up by wooden poles dangle over the streets of Brooklyn, Queens and New Jersey. Hurricane Sandy ripped them apart there and in communities across the East Coast last week, and many places remain without electricity. That's America, where high-tech options are available only to the elite, and the rest live under conditions comparable to a those of a developing nation. No country has produced more Nobel Prize winners, yet in New York City hospitals had to be evacuated during the storm because their emergency generators didn't work properly.
Anyone who sees this as a contradiction has failed to grasp the fact that America is a country of total capitalism. Its functionaries have no need of public hospitals or of a reliable power supply to private homes. The elite have their own infrastructure. Total capitalism, however, has left American society in ruins and crippled the government. America's fate is not just an accident produced by the system. It is a consequence of that system.
Obama couldn't change this, and Romney wouldn't be able to either. Europe is mistaken if it views the election as a choice between the forces of good and evil. And it certainly doesn't amount to a potential change in political direction as some newspapers on the Continent would have us believe."

The telling point - the utter irony of your post is that when liberals really, really dig deep to try and make a sensible argument - they parrot conservative visions. You of all people are now saying capitalism is good and will sort out a problem? Oh right, in your warped mind you think it will hurt someone who isn't doing what they were told.
Capitalism "is" speaking - ALL companies are doing what Applebees has made news with.
And you are wrong - Obama has granted ACA waivers to many, many, many of his cronies and party affiliates - around 1,300 at last count, largely to Unions so he could get that cult of personality cash for his re-election. So how does that work, if the Unions don't pay their share of a forced redistribution policy then who has to pay their share?
If it is so good with no impact to real businesses, then why do friends of the regime need to ask to be excused?
You were infatuated with the president and re-elected him even though he could not run on one single issue of his record, he had to run from them.
Maybe you better start thinking of not how Conservatives need to change, rather how you will defend the democratic party from obscurity once the Liberal economic mission has another term and the coming recession devastates the welfare state.
Infantile distractions such as Binders, Free contraceptives, won't work ever again in this country, yeah, yeah anyone who owns or runs a company, has been successful and doesn't want to go out of business to buy you rubbers and diapers is racist.

what employers don't want employees to know is that a portion of employee compensation (employee compensation includes wages, bonuses and benefits such as contributions to insurance premiums and retirement plans) is tax deductible. many small businesses offer what's referred to as "cafeteria plans" that allow employees to participate in a small group insurance plan (which usually has lower premiums than individual plans, especially for those with dependents) and can offset some of the employee's premiums by contributing a tax-deferred portion, which is win-win for both the employer and employee.
ReplyDeletelistening to the rhetoric surrounding the health care debate, like the so-called "fiscal cliff", it was filled with half-truths and omissions geared specifically to create fear in the minds of the employed, for the benefit of having them side with the employer against their own self interests. this is not a new tactic and it harkens back to what brought about laws regarding child labor, the creation of labor unions, and equal employment opportunity laws. to expect employers to act in the best interest of their employees versus their own self-interests and profits, is not just wishful thinking, it's stupid. having said that, there is a cost that is incurred by employers for providing benefits to their employees, but there is a cost to having employees anyway. many businesses, including small businesses, retain outside help to pay their employees (ever see ADP on your paycheck?), and those same resources provide benefit administration as well. it isn't free but it is part of the cost to do business and, like employee compensation and other business expenses, some portion of it is tax deductible.
these are all things that businesses may or may not want their employees to know, because taking advantage of these tax deductions and "loopholes" adds to the bottom line and to the profits. so the argument isn't as much about small business taking a hit because of extra expenses and/or taxes, it's really about how much these businesses get to pocket after expenses: pure profit. they will put on the face that they are saddened that they have to let you go because they can't afford to do business, but the truth is, in many cases, you are getting sacrificed in order to maintain profits and/or the profits to shareholders.

Don't worry the way things are going Blacks won't be able to get a pizza delivery. Now the newest game is order a pizza and kill the driver or steal the chinese food guys car and make the delivery and keep his cash.
Zimbabwe we are here....lock and load and thin the herd.
Eric Holder will probably kick aside all the dead bodies of the delivery drivers while sueing pizza businesses who start refusing to deliver to Black neighborhoods for Disparate impact.
Let's follow this trail, shall we? Applebee's and other nationwide restaurant chains decide to shut down locations rather than take a few less cents in profit per meal. Smaller, locally-owned "mom & pop" eateries and single-store franchise owners (with small enough work forces to not take a penalty) move in to meet the now unmet demand from consumers. Cities across America stop looking so much alike and start regaining some of their own unique character, more small businesses opening to replace the lost chain stores means more small business owners and more money remains in these local economies. Doesn't sound so bad to me, really.

As Presidential election day, November 6th, approached, in Nassau County, Long Island, New York, not alone residents, but nine out of ten polling booths were also reported without power.
But on November 6th, hugging the suffering in what was billed a “good storm” for Obama, was long forgotten. He hugged his wife and privileged young daughters in victory – and the Empire State Building was lit blue, illuminating all still in the dark within its glowing orbit.
And will the lights also go out in Syria and Iran during his new four year reign?
“Change we can believe in”, at every level, seems more elusive than ever.

I wish to all hell you Europeans-pretending-you're "Americans" would stop calling me a MINORITY. For your information, there's NOTHING MINOR about me in any way, shape nor fashion. Look in the mirror and call yourselves "Dead Men Walking", because that's what a whole lot of you look like, especially around the age of 40 and I was being kind about that. Stop your racially insane name calling, fecal holes.
