His Home might need improvement, and five things for Don.

I was going to blog about Tim Allen and his confusing and convoluted diatribe about the use of the "N-word" but honestly, it's not even worth it. For the life of me I cannot understand why certain white folks feel so strongly about being able to say the word, Nigger.

"I've had this argument on stage a million times. I do a movie with Martin Lawrence and pretty soon they’re referring to me, 'Hey, my n*****'s up.' So I'm the n***** if I'm around you guys but seven feet away, if I said n*****, it's not right. It's very confusing to the European mind how that works, especially if I've either grown up or evolved or whatever, it literally was growing up in Colorado, with Hispanics and Anglos, that's all I remember. So when Paula Deen (admits her language), they go after her, and now we've gone backwards in the world. She said n***** in '83 or something?"

Back in the day folks like Tim Allen and Paula Dean called us "Nigger" so much that I bet some blacks folks thought that their name was actually, Nigger. Not anymore, and I honestly think that this bothers some folks. This is why we have the constant cries of double standard because we are allowed to use it to each other (sorry Don Lemon, that will not be changing anytime soon) and they can't.

Finally, I really wanted to feature an article by Lauren Victoria Burke, an editor over at Politic365. My only wish is that Mr. Lemon reads this news site, and that he will check out Lauren's post over coffee tomorrow morning.

"CNN let Roland go and kept this? –> see video On this whole Don Lemon thing, it is a shame to waste time on 24 hour cable’s many flim flam artists — but in this case it’s a must. You see, Don actually believes he’s right. Anyone left who is confused on the question of whether a person can be mis-educated yet have a national platform has found their answer.  With that, I want to bring something up that’s been on my mind for some time now. Which is: If journalists can’t confront complex issues in a smart way they should shut up.

Yeah, yeah, I get it: If you can get paid to run your mouth why not right? Ratings, attention, fame: Good for you Don Lemon — look at you go. Just “pull your pants up,” everyone.  I guess any flunky on TV could come up with “Don’s 5 points”, and wouldn’t you know it, one did.  Sadly, TV’s Billy O and Double Down Don have no solutions. Long after these guys are gone harder questions will remain.

The deeper questions: How did we get to the place where the N-word is used casually in music and 1 in 28 kids in the U.S. has a houseparent behind bars? How do we break the cycle? This is where TV flunkies Don and Billy O fail. We are the country that leads the world in putting humans in cages. Why is any so-called journalist acting shocked that American youth have adopted prison culture with 1.5 million kids with a parent in jail? It appears a network anchor knows nothing about the effects of the war on drugs. Scary.

It took Michelle Alexander 332 pages to detail those effects, particularly on Black communities, in The New Jim Crow. Perhaps Don and Billy should read more. Or how about a viewing of The House I Live In? It’s never surprising when a Fox anchor doesn’t care to learn these issues. But one of the only Black anchors on a major network?

So if Don wants to “really fix” problems I say we start with “fixing” Don. Here are 5 things to consider Don — I write directly to you and no one else. Because it’s time for “tough love.”

1.
News reporting around the story of a 17-year-old who was followed and then ended up being shot to death is not the time for “lessons to Black people.” Only if you are a brainless dupe who is too stupid to see you’re a dupe could you fall for the wingnutty spin Trayvon23that switches topics from Trayvon to “black on black” crime. Don, what’s with opening you’re 7 minute “discussion” as if it’s somehow related to the death of Trayvon Martin — then saying you know it isn’t — then launching into how correct Billy O’Reilly is then rolling a clip of him doing just that? Everyone knows the first rule in the Fox debate playbook is “change the subject.” The only reason Billy O is talking about problems in the black community is as a device to change the subject from Trayvon. Billy will only return to the subject when he needs a handy way of saying Blacks are f’d up. And what did you do: Dance like a reverse Jolson to his narrative.

2.
The N-word and pants sagging are the end result of pathology not the start of it. No one exits the womb doing these things. Sitting in pious judgement without considering a myriad of factors is a precarious adventure. But sure, it’s great for ratings and getting booked on The View? And do I have this right: You’re a gay black male and you don’t appear to understand what it is to be judged by others who don’t know you simply because you belong to a particular group? I hope I don’t have this right.

And so you and Billy O want to talk about black males and the American criminal justice system? Well hot damn, let’s talk. The NYPD has stopped over 4 million innocent people in over 10 years and the majority of those stopped were innocent black and latino crowmales. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly apparently wants to “save” black and latino males from being subjected to 4th and 5th amendment protections even though crime is at a record low in NYC. But there are no drugs and guns in Bensonhurst or Staten Island?  Perhaps you should consider who the disproportionate target of law enforcement is in the city you live in — even when that target is innocent and there is no probable cause.  Over 473,000 innocent people were stopped last year — 55% Black.  Find an interview.

Personal behavior is very important. And that behavior is often driven by the (read: limited) choices we have in front of us. Let’s ask ourselves: Is arresting kids better than suspending them? Are we making it easier or harder for people to get a criminal record? And when they do: Do we make it easier or harder for them to re-enter society? When stats show that black males are sentenced 20% longer what effect is that likely to have? Does our society make it easy for people to attend college? Does a poor kid have the same educational opportunities as a rich one in America? When a poor kid sees few opportunities what decisions is he or she likely to make? Last I checked there were 50 million Americans — 1 in 7 — in poverty. That’s a lot of people facing the above questions.

3.
Your “respect where you live” advice was my favorite. “I’ve lived in several predominately white neighborhoods in my life, I’ve rarely witnessed people littering,” you say. Stopping litter will save us?

Well how about you stop littering: On the group you are in. Ask yourself: Would anyone in any other religious or ethnic group in America do what you did on live TV to the group they are a member of? Think: Would Thomas Roberts or Capehart rag on gays on the air as you did on Blacks? Would you? Would any Latino anchor take to the air and “call out” Hispanics? Would Fareed Zakaria do a screed like yours on Muslims? Would anyone of the Jewish or Catholic faith be critical of others in their group in this way? And the Catholics had a sex scandal.  Every group has their issues.  Sit back, close your eyes and ask yourself why no other group in America but African Americans do public self flogging as celebration.

4.
Remember the last line from Adolph Ceasar’s character in A Soldier’s Story: “They still hate you…”  Well President Barack Obama finished high school. He got a B.A. from Columbia U. He then graduated Harvard Law School. He became the 44th President of the United States.  And people demanded to see his birth certificate. You think you can escape from blackness by winking to Bill O’Reilly who demands the President’s “hidden college records.”  You’re reminding me a bit of Sgt. Waters in A Soldier’s Story with this episode.  The line, “you know the damage one ignorant Negro can do…” has many interpretations.

5.
Finally you may want to take note that the same people who now suddenly want to talk out-of-wedlock babies are the same people who advocate against sex ed in schools and contraception. The same people who want to abolish the Department of Education and cut funding for public schools are the same people who request $30 million to throw more people in jail even after that policy has proven it does not work. Chicago’s mayor “finds” $300 million for a sports stadium but closes 46 schools to “save money.” Chicago’s Senator finds $170 million for a prison but no money for summer jobs? Black youth unemployment is 46%. How about 7 minutes on that?

If I’m wrong I apologize but I’m going to go ahead and bet you didn’t study sociology, criminology or psychology. I’ll bet you’ve spent an entire life in journalism — a life of watching and not doing. I can speak first hand on what a vacuous vocation that can be. It can be a brilliant profession. It can also reveal deep ignorance." [Source]

One correction for Lauren, there is nothing ignorant about what Don Lemon is doing. He knows exactly what to do to become known and to drive up his ratings.

Field, "For the life of me I cannot understand why certain white folks feel so strongly about being able to say the word, Nigger. "

Well, brother Field, you have a point. But for the life of me I can't understand why our folks feel so strongly about using that filthy nasty word to call each other "nigger." Maybe you need to focus on what WE are doing with that word to denigrate each other. Did you know the word 'nigger' is a form of psychological self-hatred? Unfortunately, collectively as a race, we are very unaware and ignorant of what that word is doing to us psychologically.

You see, brother Field, "nigger" tears us down. It doesn't build us up.

You 'really' ought to focus on 'us', and what we are doing to each other, instead of the wm.

field, "..You see, Don actually believes he’s right..."

Just because YOU believe YOU are right, doesn't make Don wrong. Many Blacks believe Don is right, and YOU are wrong...I'm in that number.

But let's not waste any more time. You are deaf, blind and ignorant to the serious and very severe conditions our race is facing. Instead of having an 'open' mind to the very 'few' who have offered solutions to decades of perverted twisted thinking in the black community, you criticize and worry what the white man will think of us. Well, let's face it. Whites, Latinos, and Asians don't give a damn. It's YOU who is obsessed with what YOU think the wm is thinking. But the WM is not thinking that at all. It's YOU who is thinking that! Get it?

We don't think much of ourselves when we each other "my nigger." That's sick...quite perverse. I DON'T WANT ANY BLACK FOOL TO SHOW ANY ENDEARMENT TO ME BY CALLING ME "my nigger". It's a damn shame that after centuries of being called "nigger" we continue to do it to ourselves. And the pathetic thing about it: Blacks who hate that word can't stop Negroes from calling them "nigger." After centuries, Blacks have "devolved" into calling themselves "niggers."

Mr Field, Don Lemon's 5 points are also part of Obama's 10 points about Blacks. I find it amusing that you are attacking Don Lemon but to date have said nothing about what Obama is doing to us. Why is that?

Clearly Obama doesn't give a damn about Blacks and we voted in the 95 percentile for him. Why haven't you criticized Obama? He has done tremendous damage to us. Don is just trying to improve our 'horrible' and 'shameful' situation as human beings. But Obama is busy making our situation worse. Also, Don is speaking the TRUTH. Obama lies.

I saw two House Negroes on The Five and thought of another quote from A Soldier's Story by Adolph Ceasar "The Black Race Can't Afford You No More". Then I read your post and the story quoting from the same movie. Anyway your current House Negro has truly lost her mind. She is thirsty for attention. I saw her and Joe Madison on Washington Journal not long ago and he shut her down. Now you'll see her getting worst until Fox News brings her in as a 'Black Ann Coulter'.

  5. Don Lemon was 1000% correct and NOTHING he said was untrue, with one exception.

I lived in a Black neighborhood where the average family income was over 100K (Shout out to my former home, Bowie MD!), and we ALL kept our neighborhood CLEAN!!!

Super Great article by Ms. Burke!

and as for Tim Allen,(Martin Lawrence and pretty soon they’re referring to me, 'Hey, my n*****'s up.' So I'm the n***** if I'm around you guys but seven feet away, if I said n*****, it's not right.)

LOL, These anglos are so dry sometimes, *shaking head* Well he just needs to understand, or why is it so hard for him to unde4rstand that there are terms of endearment that are appropriate at certain times, but become highly inappropriate at other times!

Example: During lovemaking, what don't we call each other??? Hmmmm? think back now...riiiiight,that's what I'm talkin 'bout! ;D

and there's other examples of occasions but I like that one hehehehehe...but everybody think up some more!

You can say certain things in certain situations and not others! Capishe Mr.Dummy Tim Allen;)

Field I just love this blog, I can express myself! YEAH!

Don is NOT littering. He's just telling the Truth. Of course, folks like Field and Rev Inc are saying Don should keep this smelly pile of shit quiet. Don't talk about that funky elephant in the living room that's pissing and shitting all over everything.

I never thought Field and Rev Inc would come together but there you have it...keeping secrets makes strange bedfellows. But actually, they are two of a kind: they both live off of race baiting and race hustling.

We have so many corrupt mindless race hustlers in our race, it's no wonder when the Truth is spoken they start attacking the truth sayers.

Nice job, Field. But against the truth, it's never going to be good enough.

Things will never change. Ever. YOu came up with a lot of excuses most loosely or directly pointing the finger at everyone except for the people who create the community and culture.

So attack Don Lemon, attack anyone else who says things you think they should hide.

Holy shit, Field. Such a long post to say you hate Don Lemon. LOL

Even so, Don has shown courage, something sorely lacking in our black community. You see, we are of a mind set that we rarely talk "truth", let alone align ourselves with the truth.

It almost anathema. That's what your post and previous comments re: an obvious truth coming out of the mouths of Don and O'Reilly. It's as though anyone who tells the truth is lautomatically wrong. It's weird.

When someone such as Don or Bill O'Reilly speaks the truth about us, we attack them for telling the truth. Your post has proven that YOU-- can't handle the truth.

Furthermore, YOU really are NOT interested in the truth or any solution to our huge problem whatsoever. So what is your deal, Field, other than blaming Don and O'Reilly for throwing curve balls to the black community?

FYI: Don and O'Reilly are throwing balls of truth. YOU are throwing knuckleballs.

Field all the haters of your blog about Don are missing your point. Maybe they would have understood it better if you said it like this: "Any fool knows that you don't air your dirty laundry in public. There's a time and a place for everything. " Also Don Lemon needs an education in American History, Black History and politics. I guess he doesn't understand that things like tax abatements, and corrupt city government officials sealing and diverting money away from education along with greedy corporations taking blue collar jobs out of the cities and overseas to avoid paying any corporate taxes are to blame...ad let's not forget how the mortgage companies wrote bad loans and then the bank bailout that went directly into the pockets of the corrupt bankers as bonuses. And ignorant people like Don blame the VICTIMS. Yes, he is definately a "mis-educated" negro.

Well said. And you are right. The black community will never change because they lack the maturity to own up to their own shortcomings. They blame the wm and any Negro who tells it like it is.

Field has spent all that energy attacking Don and O'Reilly but never once has it occurred to him that HE might be the problem. I mean, he sure is NOT the solution! Ignorance....iignorance rules the day among us.

Your quote is old school and it was wrong then and it's even more wrong today. Everybody can see our dirty laundry. KILLING BLACKS IN THE STREETS BY BLACKS "IS" AUTOMATICALLY WINNOWING DIRTY LAUNDRY IN THE WIND FOR ALL TO SEE. Shit...Any 'fool' knows that.

Here's another beauty for you: OVER 72% OF OUR CHILDREN ARE BORN OUT OF WEDLOCK. Not even God can hide that. Satan, maybe. But not God, who is the truth.

Here's another beauty for you: Our teens are the nastiest looking teens of all races by the way they dress with their asses and underwear sticking out. It shows a lack of parental guidance and parents who just doesn't give a damn about their kids.

There's more beauties but I won't go into it. Bottom line is we CAN'T AFFORD TO KEEP SICK SHIT LIKE THIS SECRET.

Haven't you heard, "WE ARE AS SICK AS OUR SECRETS?" The other saying is "There are no secrets. Everybody knows anyway."

  15. In medicine we treat the symptoms until we find the causitve agents. I guess you can say Mr. Lemon was starting at the symptoms and trying to mask the disease by treating said symptoms. This disease (off the hook behaviors) is like cancer, always mutating -displaying more negative behaviors. But, the patient can live if the symptoms are abated. So, i would like to see (Dr.) Mr. Lemon take his medicine out of the studio and into the jungle where the disease is running rampant. Sometimes we have to get in the patient face for compliance. Now then I would say what he did was right-on. PS....We got his back in our neck of the woods.

  18. A Quick Memo to House Negroes and White Amerikka,

When attempting to solve a problem, there are always two sides to a story that must be weighed. Bitter vitriol of one side’s subculture isn’t going to solve anything. Simply put, quit dancing around the core issues. Which are primarily the behavior of white men murdering black children. Isn’t this the reason why we’re supposed to be having an HONEST discussion regarding race. Wasn’t there a white/hispanic man that murdered Trayvon, for of all things, walking while black and appearing to be suspicious. Isn’t this the typical stereotyping of black men in this country? Haven’t you realized that the current conversation is heavily one sided favoring white men who appear to have no problems at all? On the other hand, blood has been dripping from the white man’s hand for centuries and not that many has spoken up? When will white people begin to speak up about the white men’s fragile manhood which essentially dissolves at the sight of seeing a young black man?

And to the rest of you Juan Williams and Don Lemon type Negroes. What’s your problem? Has the white man instilled so much fear within your heart that you’ll disavow all of his short comings and pretend to not see them? Do you still look up to him as if he’s your DADDY? Have you been so properly conditioned over the last 400 years that you’ll begin to believe that racism isn’t a part of the Amerikkkan social quilt? Go ahead and admit that you cower in fear at your house during the night because you don’t want the local KKK to mistaken you for a roudy Negroe like myself (they better knock on the correct door or it’s good night forever).
I have a suggestion for you, why don’t you STAND UP LIKE REAL A MAN and tell the Amerikkkan racist white man that he’s this country’s real problem!

    CHEERS!

Question. Now that all of this has been said, what are Black people going to do to bring about a solution? You can accept the things you can not change but CHANGE THE THINGS THAT YOU CAN!!!!!

For Example: Although this has nothing to do with the Zimmerman case but where was Trayvon's dad when he first started getting expelled from school? Where were mom and dad before Trayvon started smoking dope? Everybody knows that people that end up doing hard drugs often start out with marijuana and even marijuana impairs your brain and motor skills. They say the autopsy of his liver already showed damage from frequent drug use rumored to be from frequent use of "lean" made from watermelon iced tea, skittles, and Robitussin cough medicine. Where were his parents before he started walking around with 12 pieces of stolen jewelry in his backpack and a screwdriver at school (he admitted to the security guard that the jewelry wasn't his). As long as your children are under your roof you are supposed to monitor everything they do until they're educated, grown and on their own. It doesn't matter whether they are boys or girls. Parents don't know what's in backpacks, closets, dressers pants pockets, tweets, Facebook and they ain't trying to find out. Parents think that it's okay for kids over 13 and before high school graduation to be out after dark roaming the streets with no curfew ( I see it all the time). If you give them permission to go to a movie or a mall they should expect that you may show up to check and see that they are where they say they will be. Parents want to have kids but don't want to raise them. Parenting is a 24 hour a day 365 day a year job and there ain't no down time. After you have kids, your children are supposed to come first. They come before your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your job, your clothes, your shoes, your jewelry, your sleep and your education. YOU GET THE POINT? These are the discussions that need to be aired whether in private, in public or up in space!!!!

"And to the rest of you Juan Williams and Don Lemon type Negroes. What’s your problem?"

The problem is, dumb ass Negroes like you who want to block your fellow Negroes- who desperately want to deal with the truth in order to bring positive change to the black community. But your stupid ass keep attacking the truth because of the messenger. That is WHY decades of DOING NOTHING happens in our community. It's Negroes like you who can't imagine a 'new way' of thinking, which is turning 'inward' to ourselves and getting busy in cleaning up our mess. But NOOO, you are busy in your paranoia of the truth because you are too ignorant to 'see' the truth. I could give a shit less what O'Reilly says. I care about the truth. And if all of us Blacks cared enough about the TRUTH, we would have been free a long time ago. GET IT, you sick-ass dummie?

Has the white man instilled so much fear within your heart that you’ll disavow all of his short comings and pretend to not see them?"

Let me be clear. I don't give a shit about the wm's shortcomings....NOTTA. I only care about OUR SHORTCOMINGS. And there are plenty. So much that it's overwhelming. I am pleased that Don Lemon has offered a 5-point plan for us. At least it's a start. Have you seen any other plans from the CBC, NAACP, or the great sell-out Rev Inc?

Let me answer that for you--NO!

Now you can call me whatever you damn well please, from slave catcher to House Negro. I KNOW I am neither. I AM someone who cares deeply about the pathetic state of my race and where it's going. Right now it looks like we're going straight to hell. I want to do my part, as Don Lemon does, to stop it.

As far as O'Reilly goes, I don't give a shit about him. But I'm open-minded enough to listen because even O'Reilly speaks some good-tidbits of truth, whether you like it or not. It might not come in the 'spirit' that Blacks like you want, but the 'truth is the truth'. YOU need to learn to take in the truth no matter hard or funky it may be, and use it as fertilizer to grow something beautiful, instead of making excuses and hiding it for decades as if it didn't exist.

We are in deep shit in our community. We are in a crisis! But you are too much of a dumb-ass to get it.

You really ought to change your name from 'Black Sage' to "Black Dummie".

Saw Juan Williams on FoxNews TheFive yesterday. I should have had my barf bag ready. He and this other "so-called Negro"..went into this Black on Black crime thing when the murder of Trayvon Martin was mentioned. They all agreed that Bill O'Reilly was absolutely right when he did his Black in Black crime lecture. For some reason..they all refused to understand that the murder of Trayvon Martin had nothing to do with Black in Black crime.

  31. I'm white. Most white people who want to know why they can't use the n-clang think it's proof for that there is a racial double standard and black people get the benefit, so see, there is no real racial problem in America except black people get treated special (and the Democrats are race pimps, so there).

Also, it is the one word that cannot be used in society without drawing almost universal condemnation. Implicit in that is the notion that a wrong has been committed, is being committed. Many white people cannot admit that; to do so would require thought and change, and possibly loss of the privileges they have from being born Caucasian. It's too much thinking and moral effort for most people.

In contrast, for many of us who have varying degrees of awareness that ours is a white supremacist society and what that implies, when we hear African Americans use the 'n' word it's a reminder of our white guilt. We are outsiders who can never belong to that particular club. We can never be fully trusted, and we bear individual responsibility for that.

Now, pretty much all of us would rather deal with the guilt than have to deal with being black in America. Life is hard enough without that being added into the mix.

  32. Your House Negro of the day is quite fitting, Field.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Black Ink11:38 AM

The issue for Field appears to be self-relevance.

Imagine if Don Lemon's suggestions awakened a black epiphany in America: A new direction filled with hope for positive change in place of excuses and stagnation.

Albeit well intentioned, the old and very tired liberal policies have failed black Americans across the board.
Einstein defined insanity as, "doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result".
Throwing good money after bad and creating programs very few well utilize appropriately is not the solution. We as a people need to search our souls for the self evident core issues that have crushed our hopes and dreams and kept us in this state of despair.
Jesus said, "teach a man to fish and he will eat for a lifetime; give a man a fish and he will eat for a day".

As we cling to gangsta cool lifestyles we delude ourselves as to who we are; as we make excuses for failure, we continue to fail; as we limit our faith to our time in church (if we even attend), so is our faith limited; as we compromise our morals, we lend our character to corruption.

When fellow blacks challenge the agenda of the poverty pimps they are summarily condemned by these mainstream black activists as house negoes. Infuckingcredible!

Tyler Perry, Bill Cosby, Condy Rice, and now Don Lemon do not accept that blacks are inferior.
They know our potential and strive to lead by positive example.
    They know that we must:
Stop making excuses and make a difference.
Stop the self deprecating cycle of dependence.
Stop feeling sorry for ourselves and make something of our lives.
    Stop the hate.
BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY we must stop advocating that if a brother or sister studies hard, graduates, gets married before having kids, takes responsibility for being a parent, says no to drugs, says no to gangs and dresses for success that he/she is a sell out Uncle Tom........because if this simple dynamic does not change neither will our 3rd class position in America.

We must be responsible for ourselves; it is not the white man's burden.

We need to free ourselves from the government plantation if we are to be anything of merit.

I confess my biased anger as I live in Arkansas and Illinois. Both states are brimming with poverty that is fashioned by droves of babies giving birth to serial babies. Foster care agencies are overflowing and overwhelmed. Child mentoring programs are grossly short staffed and sabotaged by endless waiting lists of lonely neglected children. Young, doomed, uneducated, unskilled, unmarried, unprepared, pregnant girls and amoral, absent, arrogantly apathetic boys abound, perpetually everywhere I roam in both states. I see them and their pregnant bellies/other young babies in tow inside every school and store I enter. Thus, abortion is just not an issue for me.

When I examine the worlds I live within, more babies born to more babies are the very last thing on my mind! For the record, I agree that abortion is murder. It should never be used as belated birth control. If men could become pregnant, abortions would be a sport and as easily acquired as fast food. Safe abortion clinics would be attached to every strip club and gym, funded by special insurers, sanctioned by employers who granted special medical days off. Thus, men who have no wombs should never police women who do! Abortions are personal decisions that rest only within karma between mothers and God.

When abortion is outlawed, even more young blacks will still be breeding themselves into perpetual poverty. And, more white babies will be born by legal force. These are the ONLY actual aims of this racist lying ad campaign…SHAME!!!!!!!

"The fact blacks praised Jay Z for his comments on the Zimmerman verdict and bashed CNN’s Don Lemon for pointing out the problems blacks bring on themselves is exactly what’s wrong with “Black America.”

I’ve always rejected the news media and self-appointed black leaders' persistent efforts in relegating blacks into a group of political zombies, void of individualism and personal responsibility. But against the backdrop of the George Zimmerman murder trial of Trayvon Martin and the race hustlers’ desperate attempt to turn the “event” into a white on black hate crime, the ugly scab of black culture was revealed.

This fake race war also brought out the worst behavior in black Americans who called people like me and Don Lemmon, “house niggas, sellouts, and Uncle Toms” among other unsavory names for daring to offer constructive criticism and say blacks are their own worst nightmare and need to take responsibility for their bad behavior!"

    ---Crystal Wright

FN calls this comment "House Negro" behavior; I call it black empowerment behavior.

Lauren Burke said "CNN let Roland go and kept this?" Her opening question was a summary of the entire essay. here are some important facts preceding Don Lemon's remarks.
    (1) CNN recently replaced its president, the results of which was interpreted by many as marking a dramatic change in programming content from the networks' traditional more liberal reporting of the news.
    (2) Roland Martin CNN's top black news anchor was fired.
    (3) Soledad O'Brien CNN's other well known Black news journalist recently left the network.
    (4) Don Lemon is essentially last black man standing at CNN.

It is my guess that Don was told that he better "GET RIGHT" or join the rest of the former black employees at CNN. Don being a smart young black man who "loves" his paycheck said "Yas-sa Massa" and did his Bill O'Reilly, "buck dance" shuffling in the sand box. Your guess is totally wrong. Don Lemon's job is pretty secure, for now, simply because he IS the last Black there. But more importantly, he is an excellent anchor. Don Lemon has that quality that 'every' network looks for in an anchor.

If anything, the new President has told Lemon that CNN loves him and wants to 'keep' him.

I am constantly amazed how black thinking like yours, which is about 100 years old without change, continues to menace and destroy black minds. You have a good mind but like most good black minds there is that unconscious dark aspect of it that degrades a fellow AA because he spoke the truth about our condition.

We are such a shame-based lot. So shame-based that we attack 'anyone' for exposing the truth, which is a secret we try to keep under wraps forever. We want to take the shameful truth to our graves so one will know, esp white folks. Well, that's what is happening: our race is dying from covering up the truth.

Thank God for Don. He is keeping us from dying this miserable macabre dance of death.

I mean, God is pure TRUTH, and we have been dodging, ignoring and attacking the truth for a long time. The truth is coming at us in so many ways out of so many 'different' mouths. And STILL, we find ways to not acknowledge the truth that is standing in front of our face. Blacks are mastered at denying the truth because of the messenger and the platform from where it was given. First, I didn't say I wouldn't want to be black, per se, but rather that I wouldn't want to deal with being black in the U.S. The problem is, as Dubois noted, that blacks are too often unwanted in this country, and life is hard enough without being disfavored simply on account of one's skin color.

Second, I find much that is admirable about African Americans. Cowardly? I think not. The kind of courage (heart), that I regularly see from African Americans is the opposite of cowardice. And the heroism--look at the heroism great and small. Paul Robeson, Jackie Robinson, Joe Louis, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, James Baldwin--that barely scratches the surface. A hero is someone who overcomes adversity and embodies admirable traits. On a daily basis, that defines the great majority of African Americans.

Third, African Americans have a legitimate beef with white people; white people have controlled the levers of finance and power and they have too often worked actively to visit harm on African Americans. While there are things African Americans can (and have done and continue to do), to expect them to be able to 'pull themselves up by their bootstraps' is not realistic.

Both Washington and Dubois were correct, in my opinion, in their prescriptions for the advancement of African Americans. Sadly, however, some degree of racism is inherent in the human race. I don't think we'll ever get completely beyond it. However, we will eventually get to the point where it is a relatively minor irritant.

Well, I was referring to being Black in America, not anywhere else. Seems like you are splitting hairs on being Black. No one wants to be Black in America unless they have no choice. And I bet a good % of Blacks would change their skin color if they could. Nevertheless, it's good to know there are some White sympathizers such as yourself out there.

BTW, 'where' on planet earth would you have no problem being Black?

Thank you again Nick for correcting Anon 1:09pm who was obviously attempting to either misquote you or place words in you mouth that you had not utter. Once again, thanks for being honest!

  57. I also want to address the idea that the various programs that attempt to help African Americans are somehow wrong because they keep African Americans from moving forward.

The problem is that there is no easy solution, no bright button to push that will fix the various problems stemming from 400 years of hostility or neglect.

The first concern when there is an injury is to stop the bleeding and prevent further injury. Getting the basic necessities of life to the poor is triage goal #1.

Only after life is being sustained at some reasonable level, can we begin to get people to move up the other levels of Maslow's Hierarchy.

And let's look at history now--every attempt to provide basic assistance to African Americans has met with obstruction by a certain group of whites. That battle continues. It's very useful for those who want to maintain power to keep us divided along racial lines, and making people envious is one of their prime tools.

You have to have a full stomach before you can sit and read Shakesepeare.

  59. Interesting memes being tossed around today. The old stand by about blahs accusing other blahs for being high acheivers was brought back. This blog is written by a high acheiving blah man and I'm pretty sure he isn't being called an Uncle Tom by his peers. I also like the fact conservatives love to tout Bill Cosby as some kind of sage when in reality he is an aging comic who seems to prefer offering overly simplistic remedies while ignoring his own shortcomings, take care of that out of wedlock daughter Bill but he's a Que so I didn't expect much, ha! Also funny is how when conservatives list prominent blah folks whom we should emulate they leave out the most successful brotha ever. Barack is the leader of the free world, his wife is an attorney and he has two smart daughters but he is mysteriously left off of the list of folks to pattern ourselves after. Things that nake you go hmmmmmmmmmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  60. To put this in perspective this would be like a prominent white commentator or comedian telling white people to stop taking meth, brush their tooth and stop screwing their sisters and all the pathology in their communities would end. True it would help but just one talking head saying it probably wouldn't help too much. Chris Hayes made this point very well last night on his show.

Wow, I’m stunned, so you do have a pair of balls after all. Now, all you have to do is display these massive balls to the white man and that you will stand you ground (no pun intended). Anon, you had an opportunity to stand tall but your squandered it and stood small, as usual. Judging by the tone of your response, you’re still scuurrd (country grammar) of the white man. Both sides of the issue must be examined and not merely one side, or else, your vacuous attempts to get to the root of the problem will never materialize and move to a state of resolution from there. My previous proposition still stands regarding the ill-behavior of quite a few white men.

Why are you so afraid to scrutinize the collective behavior of white men? You appear to be gripped with fear of them. Have you had some extremely negative experiences with them?

God forbid and forgive me if I weren't the first one to wholeheartedly agree that a change for the better is needed!

God forgive me! I am not that cruel, insensitive or dispassionate!

You see, we have the exact same sub-culture here in Puerto Rico! Exact the same! Exactly!

Most of which are jam packed into the housing projects here called "residenciales" or referred to by the elite as "los caserios". In a very disparaging tone usually)

Anyone that comes from them had better not put that address down in a job application or their goes their chances! Just to give you an idea.

So it certainly does behoove me for this extended and decades old situation to be addressed in a productive manner.

I just don't think that a couple of elite journalists proselytizing and scolding from their cushy air conditioned offices or from behind their white picket fences or gated communities, (gated to precisely keep out the poor that may just be looking to get their hands on something that otherwise they could otherwise not have access to, but desperately want also!)

Gated to keep them from looking and SEEING/FEELING/EMPATHIZING with the poverty and despair!

They can scold, ridicule and berate all day long 24/7!

It's not going to do anything to help!

What they SHOULD DO is put on their big people underpants. and go out to the areas, meet those people, find out what their problems are and have been for decades, AND THEN go on TV and offer suggestions/solutions.

See that would be really trying to fix a problem. THAT would be constructive.

Because you can't talk on what you don't really know.

I love Malcolm for many reasons… He refused to be passive when being so was even more encouraged and rewarded than it is now. Malcolm was carnally wise. He was sexually secure with all sexualities. He chose to grow beyond a tough hustler to become a tender husband. He conquered his own eurocentrism and colorism as he became an afrocentric Pan-African. He refused to gaybash in his autobiography. He bravely battled his own sexism as he loved and cherished the budding feminist Dr. Betty Shabazz. And, one of his best friends was a lesbian.

Malcolm chose to seek superior educations in arenas where most seek only superior criminality. He chose to love an ebony black queen while his renowned peers were typically wooing and wedding the whitest women they could find. He adored his black baby girls and never whined about not having a son as most sexist fathers do.

Malcolm X would refuse to pretend that the blackish Hobama was not a corporate green “house nigger”!!!. He would refuse to be silent about Hobama’s rabidly elitist abuses of poor people. He would never be silent about how Hobama incessantly betrays blacks who masochistically and suicidally adore him.

I live in Harlem. There is more 'stop n frisk' in Harlem than anywhere else in the city. There are homeless people seen on the corners in Harlem. Yes, there are some homes exceeding a million dollars. Guess who owns them and renting them out? Besides, there are million dollar condos all over NYC. It's quite common, but it's NOT the Blacks who own them...it's a combination of rich Whites and people from other countries, such as the Middle East and China. Get the picture?

OJ Simpson wins parole. Thank goodness for OJ, he deserves it. The man was railroaded by the white justice system.

'Simpson appeared before two members of the board last week. He told them that he has been a model prisoner and that other inmates come to him to tell their stories and seek guidance.'

OJ said, "They were trying to steal other people's property," Simpson told the commissioners. "They were trying to steal other people's money. My crime was trying to retrieve for my family my own property."

That is why OJ deserves to be set free. If the inmates were coming to OJ for advice on life, surely OJ is not that bad?

Mr Field, you should do a post on "Misunderstood OJ". By the way, did you know that Orange Juice companies got the idea about calling their products "Juice" or "OJ" from OJ? I bet you didn't know that, did you? It just goes to show how ignorant of our people you are. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.
