Right wing intellectuals.

There are some truly stupid people in Washington. The fact that these people were voted into office tells you all you need to know about a large segment of the American population.

Take,for instance, Buck McKeon:

"Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius is keeping quiet about exactly how many people have successfully signed up for insurance on the Affordable Care Act’s online exchanges so far, but it has to be more than 10, right? During an appearance on CNN with Wolf Blitzer earlier today, Rep. Buck McKeon (R-CA) made the bold claim that total signups were in the “single digits.”

“I heard that they’ve had over eight million hits, people that have tried to sign up, and so far they have people in the single digits that have signed up,” McKeon told Blitzer, citing anonymous “bipartisan” sources. “Now, obviously there is something very wrong there.”

Blitzer pushed back, responding incredulously, “When you say single digits, I’m not exactly clear what you mean by that.”

“Single digits would be less than ten,” McKeon replied, matter-of-factly. He clarified that he read that fact in an article in Forbes today, possibly referring to an this piece from last Thursday that quoted an anonymous insurance industry official.

Blitzer, who still couldn’t believe what he was hearing, asked if McKeon really believed that less than 10 people have signed up for the plans “nationwide.” [Source]

Yes Wolf, he is serious.

And then there is this gal:

"In the same interview where Michele Bachmann weighed in on Miley Cyrus spoofing her, the Republican congresswoman also had some tough words for President Obama, even going so far as to suggest impeachment should be on the table.

She told Rusty Humphries in a conference call sponsored by TeaParty.net on Tuesday that “we can have an impeachment hearing in the house” because she believes Obama “has committed impeachable offenses.” Removing Obama from office is off the table, though, because the Senate determines that action and the Democrats currently hold it.

Bachmann bashed Obama’s “thuggery,” and at another point said the fight over Obamacare isn’t just that, it’s a battle for “whether or not we will hold onto a constitutional republic.” [Source]

I hear you Michele, but can you twerk?

Finally, everyone is rightfully outraged about the families of those American soldiers who were lost  in battle not getting their benefits because of the government shutdown. But don't fall for the lies and disinformation coming from people like Bill O'Reilly over at Der Angriff. The truth of the matter is that we are in this place because of the government shutdown. The government is shutdown because a few right-wing extremist decided to hold the rest of us hostage.

I am not quite sure what folks expected. When you shutdown the government you can't pick and choose who to pay because the country is more outraged about the families of dead soldiers not getting their death benefits than a bunch of IRS workers not getting paid.

Sorry, the government is down. Parks not being open and military death benefits not being paid is a by- product of this right wing tactic. The wingnuts might as well own it all now. I mean let's face it; their approval rating is sitting lower than Osama Bin Laden and Kim Il Sung these days. How much lower can they go?

“I am offended, outraged, and embarrassed that the government shutdown had prevented the Department of Defense from fulfilling this most sacred responsibility in a timely manner,” Hagel said.

“In the days before the shutdown, we warned Congress and the American people that DoD would not have the legal authority to make these payments during a lapse in appropriations.”

The announcement came just after the U.S. House of Representatives voted unanimously to resume paying survivor benefits, which includes a $100,000 payment."

So it's all good for now. But, in the days to come, more lives will be lost, and...

"While the deal staves off this particular injustice, failure to end the shutdown, or to pass an increase in the debt ceiling before October 17, could have continued dire consequences to military vets and their families. “If the shutdown does not end in the coming weeks, VA will not be able to assure delivery of 1 November checks to more than 5.18 million beneficiaries, including veterans who are 100% disabled, surviving spouses, eligible children orphaned by the death of their military parent,” Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric Shinseki said in testimony before Congress."

Sorry Mr. Shinseki, stupid people don't care about such things.

"There are some truly stupid people in Washington. The fact that these people were voted into office tells you all you need to know about a large segment of the American population."

Mr Field, It's damn near impossible for anyone in Washington to be stupid. The American voters don't vote stupid people into office. No human being in their right mind would do that, unless they are voting for the skin color of a man without regard to anything else.

Nevertheless, I AM wondering it this democratic process is the wrong thing to have in ANY country. If the voters are stupid then the democratic process just won't work very well.

Maybe this democratic process in America was a 'big mistake', as Freud called it.

I'm not 100% sure but I do believe I read an article this evening where they had passed a bill so that the fallen soldier benefits would be allocated as per usual.

We continue to elect people that have not relationships with us. Electing the haves to assist the have-nots. Electing draft dodgers- yes, some are still around- and non veterans and expect them to have our interests in mind.

The Tea Party elected have no reason to capitulate; they may be seen as heroes to the demographics that see their country being taken over by mongrels. The original tea party against British taxation was carried out a few patriots seen as heroes.

If the President Obama fold, his next three years are going to have him being "hosed" daily. These heroes have no interest in this new and diverse model of America. So this staring contest will go to the wire. The losers will be "us-ems" who voted these spoiled, entitled brats into office.

I am hoping that some of the "grown folks" will bring all parties to an agreement. I would hate to see an empty mailbox on the 1st. AND NO.. I am not waiting for an assistance check.

This has got to make the WH nervous when Bachmann starts talking about the "I" word. She carries weight with the American people and they listen when Bachmann speaks.

Let us pray that Obama makes it through his last term in office. However, with Bachmann gunning for him, brother O might not make it.

That sends shivers down my spine.

  9. Another day in Philly.....

VIDEO: Blind man beaten on Phila. street as witnesses look on

(CBS) PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia police have released surveillance footage they say shows an unidentified man knock a blind man to the ground and then proceed to kick and stomp on him as he lay helpless on the side of the road.

The video appears to show at least three witnesses who did not attempt to intervene.

Of course, this is the fault of the Tea Party and rightwing extremist.

Also knew we'd see the 87 percent of government working meme. Who cares what the other 13 percent entails. We're dealing with some ignorant and delusional people and now they're electing each other to elective office. Damn, and I thought it was impossible to miss repubs like W.

I mean, how many times must voters get screwed and used by the members of the CBC before they stop voting for them? Brother Field, let me answer that for you:

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.) had what some colleagues called "a heated exchange" and what she described as "a conversation" with President Obama during a White House meeting Wednesday afternoon regarding the District's budget constraints as a result of the partial government shutdown.

Norton attended the meeting in the White House East Room with nearly 200 House Democrats and was one of a handful given the opportunity to ask the president a question. When she was called upon, Norton pressed Obama to support a House-passed bill that would permit the District to use its locally raised tax funds to maintain operations until Dec. 15.

Democrats, including Obama, have held fast in opposition to such piecemeal funding bills, saying Republicans must come to a deal to fund the entire government, not just favored segments.

Making her point, Norton spoke over the president and refused to yield the microphone, according to a lawmaker who attended the event. The lawmaker described Norton as "strident," "self-absorbed" and "parochial" in her exchange with Obama.

  27. The reason the Repugs are so terrified of Obamacare is because it will work. It may only be a watered down version of proper socialised medicine (as practiced successfully in almost every industrialised nation in the Western world), but it will work.

Millions of working class American citizens will then the see clearly, perhaps for the first time, what a repulsive pile of putrifying shit and puss the conservative edifice is standing on. They will see how they have been lied to for decades by a an evil alliance of the conservative media machine, the corrupt political classes, and dim-witted self serving politicians who are nothing more than the useful idiots of venal, self-serving billionaires.

I guess in a way it is quite impressive that the uber-wealthy have managed to convince the dimwits of the Tea Party to demonstrate against their own class interests in opposing Obamacare, Medicaid and Social Security. They have taken advantage of the fact that vast swathes of the American working and middle classes have temporarily given up on thinking.

However the successful implementation of Obamacare will be the tipping point, the working class will start to see clearly whose side the government is on, and whose side the capitalists are on.

The Berlin Blockade was a siege in all but name. Beyond the sheer fact of food and coal being cut off to a city of millions were a thousand minor humiliations by Soviet officials designed to break the will of their enemies to resist. That was their mistake. And it’s a mistake that the left often makes.

The barricades around the Lincoln Memorial and the WW2 Memorial, the traffic cones blocking the view of Mt. Rushmore and the sawhorses around Old Faithful are no Berlin Blockade, but they come out of the same meanness of spirit and the same motives.

The petty harassment extended to a 24-hour blockade of an inn that had tried to stay open and rangers arriving to block Old Faithful every time it erupted. There are few moments that sum up the meanness of spirit of the Obama Blockade as well as a park ranger angrily telling senior citizens to get back on the bus and stop taking photos because they are engaging in forbidden “recreating”.

The Obama Blockade has no valid justification. Like the Berlin Blockade, it is about power and control.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Sultan5:12 PM

The Obama Blockade can shut down websites that go on running anyway, it can refuse to pay death gratuities, take down the Amber Alert and harass tourists, but it can’t do what it would really like to punish the Americans who, like the Berliners, insist on voting to the right of the left, by taking away anything more vital.

And that is what this battle is really about.

The petty harassment of the Obama Blockade is a sign of impotence. It must satisfy its spite  harassing individuals, throwing out senior citizens from their homes and denying the families of soldiers killed in its botched war money to help pay for their funeral expenses, because it can’t inflict a greater misery and torment on the country at large. And it can’t do that until it completely controls health care.

The Berlin Blockade signaled that even with the numbers on their side, the Soviet Union did not dare roll the dice and fight the Allies over the spoils of war. The Obama Blockade is not a sign of strength, pettiness never is, it’s a sign of weakness.

    ReplyDelete

Stalin lost his gamble and Obama is being forced to reconsider his. Instead of the easy victory he hoped for, his blockade created a backlash.

The photos of WW2 veterans storming the WW2 memorial have echoes of the Berlin Airlift; a seemingly small action whose greater resonances attain heroic proportions by pushing back against  tyranny. Family restaurants that defy the blockaders and fight to stay open send a message that there still is room for private lives and private concerns even on government land.

The Soviet Union hoped that Berliners would turn to the Communists. Instead they turned against them. Obama’s own approval ratings have fallen sharply. The speeches and putdowns roaring at record pace out of the White House have not changed the basic fact that Obama’s position, like that of the USSR, is that he will not negotiate over an economic power that he considers to be absolutely his in every way.

    This is just too easy..."

Dear leader is below 40% in a few polls.

    Take your advice.....

MSM polls can lie all they want, the reality is that the longer this goes on, the worse Obama is looking,

"Bill", are you as dumb as you sound, or do you just play a dumb troll on the Internet?

Depends on your definition of dumb.

If you mean dumb because of what Bull wrote, than as you know by the IP that it wasn't me. That makes you either the dumb one or you're intentionally misleading people. Your blog, your right to mislead.

If it's my posts, then I guess it's up to each person to judge if I'm dumb.

I'm thinking not because if I was, would would a lawyer have to intentionally mislead his blog viewers about me having sock-puppets?

If you think it was a typo, please explain Dan Pfeiffer's typo.

Purple Cow, have you ever heard of "mind your own business"? That poll showing an increase in favor of Obama and a substantial drop for Republicans was not a reputable and honest survey. Besides, you are a UK Negro. What do you care about a black President in the USA? don't you have enough racial strife where you live? I mean, there is not ONE black face in the British Parliament.

When are you Brits going to enter into the post-racial era like America?

Bill, for what it's worth: You ARE the smartest poster on FN. That's why Field is making it a point to try to insult you. It is clear that PilotX and Black Sage and others are no match for you. Field is jealous and trying to cover for folks like PilotX and Black Sage because...well, quite frankly, you have made them look stupid. Hence Field is feeling a little insecure. So many of my peeps are not all there but they tend to project their emptiness on others.
