Sadly, you folks seem to have a water problem. This is not good because water is one of those things that we take for granted but we need very much. If you have ever sat next to a person who has never taken a bath you will understand where I am coming from.
Anyway, West Virginia is one of those red states where the people tend to vote republican. They resent the government and believe in the free enterprise system, and they believe that the government should just get out of the way.
The thing is, though, sometimes we really do need the government to do things like make sure corporations do not contaminate our water.
"The water that some 300,000 West Virginians usually depend on to slake their thirst, wash their bodies and brush their teeth is now good for only one thing -- flushing their toilets, authorities told them Friday.
"We don't know that the water is not safe, but I can't say it is safe," Jeff McIntyre, president of West Virginia American Water Co., told reporters about the water his company provides to customers in central and southwestern West Virginia.
That's been the case since Thursday, when residents of Kanawha County reported a foul odor -- similar to licorice -- in the air.
Investigators from the Kanawha County Fire Department and the state Department of Environmental Protection soon found where it all started -- a leak from a 35,000-gallon storage tank along the Elk River, which is a regional water source." [Source]
I hope that their democratic senator in name only will be able to explain this to his constituents. He can't blame this one on that evil Obama guy.
Or, I take that back, knowing the loons on the right I am sure that they will try.
Finally, Bridgegate continues to be a story as more documents are being released thanks to a legislative committee investigating the fiasco.
Chris Christie has nothing to worry about if his milk is clean, if not, well he might have a hard time serving out his term as governor let alone becoming president of these divided states of America.

It is interesting how the media can immediately vector all their resources to get to the bottom of a bridge closing in New Jersey within 24 hours, yet still haven't been able to find the time to investigate Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the IRS scandal, or why Obamacare is such an abysmal failure.
If there are any journalists out there reading this, I was able to use advanced investigative techniques to find out that Tony Rezko can be found in the Federal Prison in Pekin, Illinois. It's south of Peoria, on Route 29.

ReplyDeleteIt's not easy to shock me anymore, but during a recent a conversation with a former female Marine about military rape, I received the shock of my life when she adamantly stated: "Military rapes are few and far between, and most of these bitches are filing false charges."
Whoa. It's not that I don't believe false charges are sometimes levied. But to say that rapes are few and far between demonstrates the deep-seated denial currently in place. As her words sank in, I suddenly felt my face grow hot, and the distinct image of Pfc. LaVena Johnson's raped and bloodied body surfaced in my mind.
Pfc. Johnson had been in Iraq for six weeks when her dead body was found inside of her tent in July 2005. The autopsy report received by the family from Army CID raised more questions than answers, so her parents, Dr. John Johnson and his wife Linda requested photographs of the death scene. Their suspicions were confirmed when the photos revealed severe injuries such as a broken nose, blackened eye, loose teeth, burns from a corrosive chemical on her genitals, and a gunshot wound to the head. Despite the strange array of injuries, the Army has remained steadfast in its determination that Johnson committed suicide.
Since that time, the Johnson's have attempted to move heaven and earth to get her death reinvestigated by the Army. When that didn't work, they put together their own team of experts. And guess what? It is their opinion that before Pfc. Johnson was murdered, she was raped.

As you know, the unemployment rate is falling only because the number of people seeking work is falling faster. All of the "improvements" in the unemployment rate are due to discouraged workers leaving the workforce entirely.
ReplyDeleteWhat would the unemployment rate be if the labor participation rate (the fraction of people actively seeking work, or actually working) remained at the same level as it had been in June, 2009 (five months into Obama's term, and when the recession supposedly officially ended).
The results are pretty shocking -- if you haven't been paying any attention whatsoever:
http://thefederalist.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Labor-Force-Dropouts-Drive-Lower-Unemployment-Rate-TheFederalist.png
Yes, there has been absolutely no actual improvement in the employment situation, except for the millions who have just given up and now subsist on the Federal dime.
Obama will of course spin this disastrous jobs creation number as due to the 16-day shutdown of 17% of the federal workforce in October.
How does that explain the five years of grueling, neverending unemployment?

Still way short of the promise Obama made when he was lying about shovel ready jobs in his stimulus.
The biggest question facing the U.S. economy: Why are people dropping out of the workforce?
...
The U.S. labor force is still shrinking rapidly. Back in 2007, 66 percent of Americans had a job or were actively seeking work. Today, that number is at 62.8 percent — the lowest level since 1977:

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-01-10/people-not-labor-force-soar-record-918-million-participation-rate-plunges-1978-level
That means that under President Obama nearly 5 million Americans have fled the workforce in hopeless despair.
The trick is that when those 5 million are not counted as in the work force, they are not counted as unemployed either.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterferrara/2012/02/09/dont-be-fooled-the-obama-unemployment-rate-is-11/
People are giving up looking for work under Obama. Those giving up looking for work are no longer counted as unemployed.
Which lowers the unemployment rate.

While the unemployment rate fell 0.3 percentage point to 6.7 percent, its lowest level since October 2008, the decline mostly reflected people leaving the labor force.

ROMANS: How can that be? The lowest jobless rate since 2008 basically? More than half a million people just left the job market. Just stopped looking for work. Now, we have a whole year's picture for the month (ph).
Seventy-four thousand jobs. That is a big disappointment. A lot of economists thought that it would be much better than that. But then you look at the jobless rate. It fell in part because people simply gave up.

-----
Yes, really. The state is run by Democrats. Really.
"The Justice Department selected an avowed political supporter of President Obama to lead the criminal probe into the IRS targeting of tea party groups, according to top Republicans who said Wednesday that the move has ruined the entire investigation.
ReplyDelete...the head of the investigation is Barbara Kay Bosserman, a trial lawyer in the Justice Department who donated more than $6,000 to Mr. Obama’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns, as well as several hundred dollars to the national Democratic Party.
The phony investigation has unsurprisingly produced no public findings. Efforts to find out what is going on have been stonewalled by the FBI and Justice Department, the politicization of which are major scandals in themselves.
This while five formal investigations, three by the federal government, are being launched into a bridge closing in New Jersey.
Having spent many an hour sitting in backed-up GWB traffic while commuting through Fort Lee, I can attest that it is no fun. But a petty act of spite like Bridgegate pales in comparison to serious abuses of power like Obama wielding the IRS as a weapon against his ideological opponents.
Like John McCain, Christie thought the liberal crocodile would eat him last if he kept feeding it with sufficient obsequiousness. Immediately after McCain secured a lock on the 2008 presidential nomination, the New York Times ran a shamelessly unprofessional hit piece on its front page, accusing him (without evidence) of having an affair. That was his reward for playing “the maverick,” constantly denouncing conservatives to the press.
After Republicans gave him the keynote speech at the 2012 RNC, Christie went out of his way to help Obama get reelected — publicly sucking up to him while turning a cold shoulder to Romney. His 30 pieces of silver also turned out to be a knife between the ribs from the liberal media. Evidently someone high up in the Inner Party decided Christie could be a threat to Shrillary, so they decided to nip him in the bud.
The bigger they are, the harder they fall. If Bridgegate doesn’t destroy Christie, they will find something else to hype. Couldn’t happen to a nicer RINO.

ReplyDeleteTo Purple Cow, the fact that communist governments killed 100 million of their own citizens in the 20th century doesn't mean communism is a bad thing."
There were no communist governments in the 20th century, numbnutz.
But incidentally how many did your far-right types put in the ground in the 20th century?
Well Field, you've got a potential client coming your way.

A relative handful. Hitler was a socialist:
We are socialists, we are enemies of today’s capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions.”
–Adolf Hitler
So you could say Leftism was accountable for 150 million deaths in the 20th century.
And I guess you are asserting that the Soviet Union, the People's Republic of China, Pol Pot's Cambodia, North Korea, Cuba, and East Germany were not true communist countries, because no "true" communist country would do all those terrible things? It was just a coincidence that governments that called themselves communist and practiced Marxism wound up killing all those people.
You are a true Progressive, to whom there is no absolute truth and facts mean nothing except as tools to advance your agenda.
You are a clown. An evil clown, but still a clown.
