I thought it got a lot of historical things right (loved the Native American scene), and, IMHO, it fairly depicted the brutality and inhumanity of slavery.
It was based on a Louisiana plantation, so the Mrs. could relate to the scenery and backdrop throughout the flick.
Anyway, speaking of Louisiana plantations, I saw an interesting article today from the Baton Rouge online paper about plantation tours refusing to acknowledge slavery.
"Louisiana’s magnificent antebellum plantation homes draw thousands of visitors each year to the state. The tourists come to see the stately live oaks, the imposing columns, the luxurious 19th-century furnishings.
But what the visitors most probably won’t encounter is any meaningful discussion of the slavery underpinning the wealth that led to the creation of these homes.
And that’s starting to become a problem.
“There are places that don’t want to talk about it,” said Aaron Sheehan-Dean, a history professor at LSU. “It’s a strange thing if you’re advertising yourself as a resort, but you are advertising yourself as a historical property as well but choose to ignore the topic of slavery. I don’t see much value in trying to sideline or ignore it.”
The Nottoway Plantation and Resort in Iberville Parish recently saw firsthand the backlash that can result from years of ignoring, or downplaying, the slavery narrative.
In December, singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco, long identified with social activism, had to cancel a songwriting and performing retreat she had scheduled at Nottoway after an online firestorm of criticism and angry posts objecting to her appearance at the resort.
In an online article posted on Jezebel, a writer chided Nottoway Plantation and Resort for posting a statement on its website that referred to the slaves who worked there as a “willing workforce.”
The statement can no longer be found on the plantation’s website. In fact, the Nottoway Plantation and Resort website doesn’t make any direct mention of slavery or offerings of slavery education to its visitors and guests.
Even lodging facilities modeled after slave quarters are simply referred to on the Nottoway website as “cottages.”
Neil Castaldi, Nottoway’s general manager, declined to answer questions related to the property’s portrayal of slavery and the recent controversy connected to the canceled DiFranco retreat.
“No matter what we say, it gets picked apart, so we’ve decided not to comment at all,” he said.
But not every plantation property tour is hesitant to tackle the topic.
Alta Cannaday, a former Louisiana resident now living in Maryland, makes frequent visits back home to visit plantations and museums.
Cannaday, 61, lived in New Orleans for more than 12 years and served as adviser and consultant on the Public Broadcasting Service series “Finding Your Roots.”
Cannaday, in a telephone interview, praised Evergreen Plantation in Edgard, which in its tour packages weaves insight about the lives of the slaves who lived and worked on the plantation. The plantation is one of the few in the state that still has a village of original slave cabins — 22 of them — on the property.
The plantation’s slave village is such a rare find that director Quentin Tarantino used them as a backdrop while filming his movie “Django Unchained” in 2012.
Evergreen Plantation’s director never returned calls to answer questions about its operations.
“Evergreen is the only one, to me, that even gave any homage to the people that lived there. Everyone else didn’t give a damn, to tell you the truth,” Cannaday said.
She said that on her last visit to Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie three years ago, there was barely even a mention of the role of slaves in the history of the site.
“There was virtually no mention of the life of the people who actually worked the plantation,” Cannaday said of Oak Alley. “I heard all about the owners, their financial holdings and their lineage. But we know that plantation was not running itself. As an educated black woman, I was expecting a complete story. Telling a partial story was an injustice.”
Laura Kilcer, the consulting curator at Oak Alley Plantation, said she thinks Cannaday’s points are valid, which is why the plantation has made recent strides to correct the problem.
In July, Oak Alley added a new exhibit titled “Slavery at Oak Alley” that features six reconstructed slave quarters used as a window into the lives of its enslaved workers.
Kilcer said the self-guided tour is just a step toward Oak Alley’s effort to paint a more complete picture of the plantation’s story — something driven in part by consumer demand.
“For whatever reason, plantations chose one narrative — and that was the narrative of the great white master,” Kilcer said. “That narrative responded to whatever cultural influences of the day were. It was the most attractive, focusing on power, wealth and success of the owners. As a result, it mitigated the very people that created that power. But now the culture has changed, and it’s certainly something we were aware of. That’s why we made the decision to reassess our narrative.”
David Floyd, executive director of LSU’s Rural Life Museum, said Oak Alley’s recent move to include the slavery exhibit is a trend he expects to see more of in the immediate future.
The Rural Life Museum, located off Essen Lane in Baton Rouge, already features an impressive outdoor exhibit called the Plantation Quarters, where actual structures from a sugar plantation in St. James Parish were reassembled on the museum grounds in their original layout.
The museum’s slavery exhibit includes three slave cabins, an overseer’s house, schoolhouse and blacksmith shed.
“There’s an interest in it,” Floyd said. “That’s why plantations are starting to cater to it. They were receiving pressure from African-American travelers around the country who wanted to know about the lives of the slaves.”
Many tourists seeking this information opt to visit River Road African American Museum in Donaldsonville.
The museum’s owner, Kathe Hambrick, opened the facility in 1994, in part because of the neglect regional plantations showed at telling slavery history.
The River Road African American Museum is filled with a treasure trove of artifacts, historical records and information about the lives and success stories of the slaves and free people of color who lived in Louisiana.
And Sheehan-Dean said more plantations may finally be taking a step, like Oak Alley, to address the interplay of slavery in the development of the plantations.
“We’re all responsible for figuring it out together. It’s not just the South’s history, it’s all of our history,” Sheehan-Dean said. “The purpose is not to make people feel guilty about the past. The purpose is to make people understand the past. And the first step in doing that is knowing what really happened there.” [Source]
I am glad that some of the plantations are coming around. I know that this is an uncomfortable part of our history, but we can't run from our past. And if you are going to open up a plantation for tours, you have to tell the entire story of how the plantation was run and the slaves who were the economic backbone of those plantations.
It's admirable that some of the plantations want to address these historical omissions, but I have to wonder how well they will address them.
ReplyDeleteIf slave cabins and other artifacts were destroyed and paper records concerning slave holdings were thrown away, how much accurate information will these plantation tours be able to provide? This just hasn't been a priority for them in the past, so how much of the history of those slaves has actually been preserved?
Good write up Field. Those white folks will never hear the end about slavery. They must suffer forever for what they put us through. I still think reparations need to be paid in full to all of us brothas and sistas ASAP!
ReplyDeleteSuffer forever? Why should people of today suffer for something that happened 150 years ago and for which they had nothing to do with? Your victim and entitlement mentality is the problem. Your lack of responsibility and personal accountability is another. Do you realize that at most around 4,000 blacks were lynched during the entire almost 100 year era of Jim Crow yet on average 9,000 blacks are killed in this country EVERY YEAR at the hands of other blacks? You are your own worst enemy. Why can we never talk about the out of control black on black and black on white crime? Why do people like you constantly bitch about something that never directly affected you? You are the true racist wanting all whites to suffer forever. Do you realize how pathetic you come across? Blacks have unlimited freedom. Freedom from judgement, criticism, responsibility, everything. All you have to do is throw out the race card as you just did and you get your way. Look at our crumbling cities. Detroit, Baltimore, Newark and on and on. Nothing but out of control black crime and dysfunction. How is it the white man's fault this time when they are cities which are run entirely by black people? Your narrow closed mind and others like you are what truly is such a detriment to your entire community. Your wanting all whites to suffer forever shows your true racist, hateful, despicable and narrow feeble mindedness. As if every white person is an evil slave owning racist. In fact most white people would want nothing more than to see the black community do well and one day get to a place where we can all peacefully exist. You are exactly the reason why this has not happened and probably never will.
DeleteField,
ReplyDeleteI just watched 12 years a slave over this past weekend. I would have like to see more about how Solomon lived before he was kidnapped. I think it would be interesting for the masses to learn more about free blacks in that era (how they got their freedom etc).
So one of these 'businesses' built slave quarters that included a schoolhouse? For who?
ReplyDeleteDear Field, Granny and other FN Negroes who called Ryan a racist for telling the truth, we have GOT to face the truth if we are to get anywhere:

Mr Field, have you seen FP lately? Is she ok? I miss her spiritual nurturing.
ReplyDeleteAre you deliberately deleting her comments? I hope not.
@Focused Purpose et al
ReplyDeleteThe following comment was copied and pasted from another website but it seemed appropriate for this post. My comment had to be divided into two parts:
"Except for murder, slavery has got to be one of the most immoral things a person can do. Yet slavery is rampant throughout the Bible in both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible clearly approves of slavery in many passages, and it goes so far as to tell how to obtain slaves, how hard you can beat them, and when you can have sex with the female slaves.
Many Jews and Christians will try to ignore the moral problems of slavery by saying that these slaves were actually servants or indentured servants. Many translations of the Bible use the word "servant", "bondservant", or "manservant" instead of "slave" to make the Bible seem less immoral than it really is. While many slaves may have worked as household servants, that doesn't mean that they were not slaves who were bought, sold, and treated worse than livestock.
The following passage shows that slaves are clearly property to be bought and sold like livestock.
However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)
The following passage describes how the Hebrew slaves are to be treated.
If you buy a Hebrew slave, he is to serve for only six years. Set him free in the seventh year, and he will owe you nothing for his freedom. If he was single when he became your slave and then married afterward, only he will go free in the seventh year. But if he was married before he became a slave, then his wife will be freed with him. If his master gave him a wife while he was a slave, and they had sons or daughters, then the man will be free in the seventh year, but his wife and children will still belong to his master. But the slave may plainly declare, 'I love my master, my wife, and my children. I would rather not go free.' If he does this, his master must present him before God. Then his master must take him to the door and publicly pierce his ear with an awl. After that, the slave will belong to his master forever. (Exodus 21:2-6 NLT)
Notice how they can get a male Hebrew slave to become a permanent slave by keeping his wife and children hostage until he says he wants to become a permanent slave. What kind of family values are these?
The following passage describes the sickening practice of sex slavery. How can anyone think it is moral to sell your own daughter as a sex slave?
When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she will not be freed at the end of six years as the men are. If she does not please the man who bought her, he may allow her to be bought back again. But he is not allowed to sell her to foreigners, since he is the one who broke the contract with her. And if the slave girl's owner arranges for her to marry his son, he may no longer treat her as a slave girl, but he must treat her as his daughter. If he himself marries her and then takes another wife, he may not reduce her food or clothing or fail to sleep with her as his wife. If he fails in any of these three ways, she may leave as a free woman without making any payment. (Exodus 21:7-11 NLT)
So these are the Bible family values! A man can buy as many sex slaves as he wants as long as he feeds them, clothes them, and screws them!
(second part)
ReplyDeleteWhat does the Bible say about beating slaves? It says you can beat both male and female slaves with a rod so hard that as long as they don't die right away you are cleared of any wrong doing.
When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)
You would think that Jesus and the New Testament would have a different view of slavery, but slavery is still approved of in the New Testament, as the following passages show.
Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ. (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)
Christians who are slaves should give their masters full respect so that the name of God and his teaching will not be shamed. If your master is a Christian, that is no excuse for being disrespectful. You should work all the harder because you are helping another believer by your efforts. Teach these truths, Timothy, and encourage everyone to obey them. (1 Timothy 6:1-2 NLT)
In the following parable, Jesus clearly approves of beating slaves even if they didn't know they were doing anything wrong.
The servant will be severely punished, for though he knew his duty, he refused to do it. "But people who are not aware that they are doing wrong will be punished only lightly. Much is required from those to whom much is given, and much more is required from those to whom much more is given." (Luke 12:47-48 NLT)"
Me:
The bible passages used to justify slavery and beating slaves are provided above.
Notice how the bible tells us under what conditions a slave master can have sex with his female slaves.
The bible is an evil fairy tale. Don't believe any of it. Slaves obey your earthly masters indeed.
It is good that you, anonymous poster, bring up slavery in antiquity, as practiced in the bible for instance.
ReplyDeletePeople act like we have lived in a post-industrial revolution world forever. No, prior to machinery and fueled engines, all work was done by humans and draft animals, and it wasn't until machinery and technology made that an inefficient way to do things that slavery ceased to be practiced, not out of moral reasons but practical and economic ones.
Why are ONLY white Americans vilified for slavery? There is never the same judgment extended to say, the Romans, or the Greeks, or the Egyptians, or Hebrews, or Turks, or Mongols, or Arabs, or any number of groups who trafficked in slaves and used it as an economic model historically. Hell Africans still practice slavery on that continent TODAY and are always having to be stopped by first world white nation's legal structures.
What makes the American slave story so salivating?
." Hell Africans still practice slavery on that continent TODAY and are always having to be stopped by first world white nation's legal structures"
DeleteThis about sums it all up. No rage about this from the folks here. END THREAD.
"What makes the American slave story so salivating?"
ReplyDeleteYour question tells a lot about the nature of your mind, heart and character. However, it represents who and what Whites are...Heartless and Unconscionable.
Anyway, to answer your question:
Because it was the most brutal wretched and evil practice ever done by a specific group to another group in the history of the human race.
This evil practiced happened within a nation that claimed in its Constitution that ALL men were equal and free. America was to have been "The Land of the Free". No other nation claimed such hypocrisy.
Rome had slaves but it never claimed all men were equal and were free. In fact, it pretty much said and did the opposite. Hence, it was not hypwhat it did...
The power in America spoke one thing and did another and justified their evil by the color of a person's skin. They were, and still are, double-minded untrustworthy people.
Even in Louisiana today, White Americans can't bring themselves to tell the truth of what happened on the plantations. This, of course, makes them blatant obvious liars, every last one of them...White folks trying to cover up the truth with 'obvious' lies to make themselves look innocent, and good.
I could go on, but I think this is enough.
White Americans are vilified because your ancestors are responsible for the largest mass killing of other humans in the history of history.
ReplyDeleteTHAT'S why, IDIOT!!
DQAE
Saying that all white people had the same ancestors is jusy like me saying all blacks are feral/savage criminals..we know both are ignorant and bogus.
DeleteMy family came from italy and settled in NY. Had nothing to do with slavery or the mistreatment of blacks.
Sister DQAE, must you be so angry and vicious toward Whites? Yes, they have done unbelievable things to us as well as the Native American Indians.
ReplyDeleteHowever, you must find the strength to 'forgive them, for they know not what they do'. You need to pray for forgiveness because....fill in the blanks.
How's Med School going?
According to DQAE's logic..black americans should all suffer and be vilified for the racist knockout games, rapes, and murders that blacks have done to whites. Anyone with half a brain realizes that this logic is just straight up ignorant.
DeleteWhen will white folks realize that you cannot obliterate history and you can only bury it but for so long? We had a slave ship (Henrietta Marie) with African artifacts found off of the coast of Florida in 1972. The African Burial Ground (ABG) was found in New York City in 1991 and another one in the Bronx in November of 2013. Furthermore, pictures of the large Olmec sculptures of Central America were always taken from a frontal position. Why? It was revealed after fifty years of intentional suppression, the Smithsonian Institute and other bastions of whiteness, avoided taking pictures from the rear because the sculpture’s head had very defined braids laced with African beads. There are many more instances where certain people attempted to bury history forever.
ReplyDeleteGet over it white folks and come to grip with what your forefathers have done. The only path towards true salvation is to admit the truth and attempt to make amends and move on from there. YOU CANNOT DEFEAT THE BUOYANCY OF HISTORY!
Black Sage, "Get over it white folks and come to grip with what your forefathers have done. The only path towards true salvation is to admit the truth and attempt to make amends and move on from there. YOU CANNOT DEFEAT THE BUOYANCY OF HISTORY!"
ReplyDeleteYou are wrong, brother. MOST Whites today have no forefathers who were slave owners. And those who do, have disowned their forefathers a long time ago in the 'early' 1900's. Take my word for it, brother because I know.
So knowing what I know as a bm, what truth is there to admit?
Actually, it's the us who should be facing the truth about 'themselves' with all the killing and oow children that's going on in our communities. Even you, brother Sage must admit It's very very ugly. It's amazing that with all that ugliness, you have the nerve to attack Whites about avoiding the truth when we can't do it ourselves.
Amen, preach brotha!
Delete"MOST Whites today have no forefathers who were slave owners. And those who do, have disowned their forefathers a long time ago in the 'early' 1900's. Take my word for it, brother because I know."
ReplyDeleteI don't know about that. Now, I will say that not all whites owned slaves, but quite a few of them did. They just didn't own a large quantity of them. Most of whites' ancestors were small farmers, store owners, doctors or lawyers, and small business owners and did not own plantations. Therefore, they didn't need a large quantity of slaves. However, they were owners of slaves too. The elite and politicians were the ones who owned plantations with a large quantity of slaves.
Edward Marmillion, the San Francisco Plantation owner was mean and cruel to his slaves. One of his slaves asked him a question. Marmillion shot and killed the slave for asking him a question. One of his biracial offsprings married one of my ancestors.
My ancestors lived in those parts and a few of those surrounding Parishes. However, most of my ancestors on that side of the family were free people of color, not all, but the majority of them were. Some of my ancestors were there before the Louisiana Purchase. A few of them moved to Paris and stayed.
My slave ancestors were on another side of my family and lived in Ark and Caddo Parish.
I'll even agree that they might disown those ancestors that did, but not all of them. The ancestors of one of my slave ancestors that lived in Arkansas was quoted in a book saying that they were heartbroken over the fact that their ancestor's mansion no longer existed. Sounds like they were proud of their plantation owner ancestor.
ReplyDeleteA tornado probably came through and destroyed it. I know that their land corroded and fell into the river. The mansion set overlooking the cliff.
Yep, they sold my ancestors swamp land, but in the end my ancestors land is still there and it's beautiful there.
I wouldn't want to live there, too many snakes and bad tornadoes.
Gwoobus, because no on else claims to be morally superior to other cultures. No one likes a hypocrite.
ReplyDeleteWesley, I agree, although there were some flashbacks of his time before being captured.
You know, after listening to Granny tell her stories about her families, who they knew, who they are and were, I can only conclude that Granny is related to damn near everybody. And, they are all damn near famous.
ReplyDelete"It is good that you, anonymous poster, bring up slavery in antiquity, as practiced in the bible for instance."
ReplyDeleteAmerican Slavery did not take place in "antiguity", as you put it. The 19th century is not "ancient times". To put things in some prospective, my father's grandmother (my father knew his grandmother) was born a slave in America. Not that long ago when you look at it that way.
Also, American slavery did not end with the Civil War, as is commonly thought. Read the book 'Slavery by Another Name (The Re-Enslavement of Black Americans from the Civil War to World War 2)' by Douglas A. Blackmon. It is an acclaimed book which reveals that "slavery" existed in the Deep South until the second world war which is well into the 20th century.

You might consider 'who' writes American history? Hint: If you are White, you're right. I know plenty of my own peeps who believe and behave as though what Whites say is true. It's been that way since slavery.
So I don't believe anybody will know the truth except the Whites who will keep it secret from Blacks. They are in power and can write history according to their own benefit and against Blacks.
And so it is.
"They are in power and can write history according to their own benefit and against Blacks."
DeleteReally? So why are liberal WHITES teaching about the Holocaust and slavery in school..showing videos of slaves being whipped and treated like shit. If big bad YT was in power and wanted to hide everything..why would this be taught in school?
@Gwoobus
ReplyDeleteWhite American slavers used the bible passages quoted above to justify slavery. They also used the bible passages above to justify the sexual exploitation of their female slaves.
My point was that the bible condones slavery. It doesn't just describe how slavery was practiced during "ancient time s". The bible actually condones the practice of slavery. It tells how and under what conditions you could beat and sexually exploit slaves. A sort of how-to book on slavery, you might say. The bible is an evil fairy tale.
The bible was also used to justify Jim Crow segregation. But that's a story for another day.
The bible basically says that the beating Patsey (the character in the movie '12 Years a Slave') received was cool since she didn't die.
ReplyDeleteField, one of the best things amazon.com has ever done is make "12 Years a Slave" available on Kindle for 99 cents. (of course Northrup's relatives don't have to be paid, and that's no doubt part of it) Anyway thousands have downloaded it and commented. It's a powerful story, probably more powerful than the ultra-violent film. I didn't see the film but read the book. Every American should.
ReplyDeleteI gather it brings out things that the movie doesn't have time for: Northup makes the breakup of families by auction more gutwrenching than the lashings, if that's possible. He makes it clear, in passing, that theories of "racial inferiority" were totally beside the point--half the slave populations were light skinned, after all, and why was that?--it was totally about POWER to bend other human beings to one's will for the purpose of making MONEY. Epps (ugly and fat, according to Northup, not Hollywood-pretty) was a constant reminder of that fact: slaves' lives were designed for maximum productivity at minimuum cost, pure and simple. (Niceties were for the master's sense of "civilization", nothing more)
Maybe this isn't news to many readers here but comes through so brilliantly in the book.

"willing workers"? In Louisiana, 90 degrees and up all summer, wild weather conditions, hurricanes... do these plantation tour guides really expect us to believe that?
ReplyDeleteYeah, come on.
As a rule poor whites did not own slaves, simply because slaves were very expensive to buy. A fit strong young male could cost up to $1200 in the 1850's. Bear in mind that at that time working class whites were earning between 9¢ and 19¢ per hour.
ReplyDeleteSlaves were so valuable that by 1860 their value exceeded more than 50% of the USA's total GDP.
In 1860 it is estimated that about 400,000 households owned the 4 million slaves. At that time the USA's population was just over 31 million, IIRC.
So statistically the chances of modern Americans being the decedents of slave owners is relatively small, unless they are of old-money, landed stock.

ReplyDelete"You know, after listening to Granny tell her stories about her families, who they knew, who they are and were, I can only conclude that Granny is related to damn near everybody. And, they are all damn near famous."
Nope, that’s not true. Not all in my family are famous or perfect. However, there were/are a lot them that were/are successful people and well-known. Like any other family on this earth there are some black sheep in my family too—Pookies. All human beings have some bad seeds in their family, I don’t care who they are or what their social economic standing is.
The reason I talked about my family history in the first place was to get other people, especially black people interested in their own family history. If you took the time out to research your own, I’m sure you would find some interesting people in yours too.
Mainly, it was to inspire Black people to get to know their own family history because it is more to their history than just slavery. You’d be surprise what your own family has accomplished in spite of slavery, Jim Crow, and every other obstacle that has been thrown in front of them. We came from a strong people like Maya Angelou’s poems says, “And yet we rise!”
Another reason I hoping to get people interested in their own history is because we’re all connected somewhere down the line. The bloodlines go around in circles for anyone whose ancestors were here during the early settlers’ days. America’s population wasn’t in the millions or billions. That’s the truth! This racial animosity between people is a bad thing. Especially since white, black, Native American, Spanish, Asian are related somewhere down the line. The same blood flows through both of their veins.
Instead, you choose to be petty, mean-spirited, take petty digs, and imply that I’m making it up or lying about it, which is NOT true. Everything I said about family is the TRUTH, whether you choose to believe it or not, does change it, it still remains the same.
I agree Granny..this racial animosity between all races is ridiculous. I wish we could all live in peaceful harmony. .I really do.

Granny, "The reason I talked about my family history in the first place was to get other people, especially black people interested in their own family history. If you took the time out to research your own, I’m sure you would find some interesting people in yours too."
ReplyDeleteComing from ancestors who were slaves and beaten and raped...then discriminated against and hung during Jim Crow, and today thrown in jail and prison, there really is nothing of interest.
However, Granny you have a long line of famous people to be proud of, which is highly unusual for Blacks of slave lineage. Being a slave is nothing to be proud of. Being hung during Jim Crow is nothing to be proud of. Being discriminated against right up to today is nothing to be proud of. To be part of a race that no other race likes, is nothing to be proud of.
But your family is the exception, as always.

Three thugs in the UK -vs- hundreds of "urban youths" that go on wildings here in the US on a regular basis.
3 overseas -vs- hundreds locally.
Try again.
Dont bother..hes ignorant. Hes blind to what goes on almost EVERYDAY in America. Field, you're truly a DISGRACE!

ReplyDelete"Happy Jack" your avatar is a disgrace to a great musician.
ReplyDeleteBesides, u must be new here. I blog about black on black crime all the time.
But I get it, to quote some other great musicians: "What a fool believes he sees."
I am indeed a first time commenter and just started coming to this blog this week. I clearly cannot speak to how often you talk about black crime. I would surmise however that you probably do not report on it enough and I wonder if you report the truly most heinous and gruesome crimes as well as articulate the sheer propensity for raping and murdering in your community but that's another issue altogether.
DeleteGetting back to the issue at hand, it is a shame you missed the point of my message. Unless of course you do get it and just can't admit it. My response was to the person who said white people should forever suffer. If one cannot see how that is wrong in every way possible I truly feel for you as your mind will never be open enough to face reality. Read what I said again and don't be afraid to let in soak in. Look at numbers and facts that speak for themselves. Look at how Paul Ryan is called a racist for stating something that I think we can all agree is as close to common knowledge as is 2+2=4. Did Paul Ryan use any slur at all? Nope. Was what he said correct? Yup. But he, being white cannot acknowledge fact because that would be racist? Apparently to some racist people. White Flight is racist. Gentrification is racist. See how impossible it is for any progress. White people are in a no win situation. The double standards are egregious. We are now at a point where stating fact is deemed racist by some. If a white person does not accept black crime or give every last penny to a minority they are racist to some. No race should accept crime. There are heinous evil animals in all races. But besides the massive amount of black criminals is the fact that many in the black community not only protect their criminals and murderers but also support and embrace these people, i.e. Mumia and OJ and so many others from every hood everywhere. White people don't do that. We wanna see justice served to our most sadistic animals. We live in a society so twisted that if a person successfully defends themselves against one or more would be attackers, the attempted murderers are made out to be the victim. Let's look at history from the 20th century. This country forgave Japan and Germany for their heinous acts. We then proceeded to help them rebuild their nations and they thrive. If only you can forgive what happened 150 years ago and realize whites of today are in no way responsible for that, you too can thrive as a collective community.
I take offense to what you said about my picture. Do you even know who that is? It is a drawing in honor of this great man, not a disparaging representation in any way shape or form. Maybe you and your community should heed a profound message from him and "face the truth today".
Great post. As a black woman I agree completely. Folks like Field only make race relations worse.
DeleteThank you . . . I appreciate your acknowledgement.
DeleteYou wanted links, i gave you links, and now you get upset.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't fit your narrative so you get bent out of shape.
That's pretty pathetic my redneck friend, pretty pathetic.
Why is everyone a "redneck" to you? Thats some played out shit right there Field.
ReplyDeleteBy the way theres no "narrative" here with me..Im simply trying to get through your thick racist head that black crime..especially hate crime, is rampant ALL OVER the country. Instead of addressing it you would rather dig for petty shit like "so and so said Ape" "Ryan is a racist" because he spoke the truth.
Will you just admit that white on black crime is RARE...and vice versa?
"You wanted links, i gave you links, and now you get upset."
ReplyDeleteNo, I am not upset.
You provided one....one...one link to an incident that occurred in the UK.
Not even a wilding. Just three thugs.
Field, are you not able to find an example (of white folks wilding) here in the good-old-US of A.
Maybe something like the "urban youths" who wandered down the street in the Temple University area inviting other "urban youths" to join their wilding... right before they assaulted those white kids...including smashing that white girl in the face with a brick!
Ahhh, the white girl probably deserved it.
Right?
Come on Field...I will wait....
"But besides the massive amount of black criminals is the fact that many in the black community not only protect their criminals and murderers but also support and embrace these people, i.e. Mumia and OJ and so many others from every hood everywhere."
ReplyDeleteMassive amounts of Black crime? Are you just blithely unaware or just plain stupid to the fact that: 1) Most Black people are NOT criminals and 2) Most crime involving those few Blacks involve drugs?
Damn, where in the hell do they "grow" you negros, in the Clarence Thomas/Uncle Tom uterus of kissing racist white folks ass?
It is a shame that your ignorance overrides your ability to interpret and comprehend. The line, "white people don't do that. WE wanna see justice served to our most sadistic animals", should tell you that I am not a "negro grown in the Clarence Thomas/Uncle Tom uterus". Part of the problem is that right there. People like Justice Thomas, Dr. Carson, Condoleezza Rice, Tim Scott, Allen West and on and on should be revered in your community. Instead they are vilified and branded as race traitors and Uncle Toms by many. They are all smart, articulate, accomplished, successful and have all achieved great things, yet many in your community denounce them. It is rather preposterous. To your other points, I did not imply in any way that most black people are raping, murdering criminals. If you cannot see that a people who comprise 13% of the population yet are responsible for at least 50% of crime should be defined as "massive", I really doubt there is anything else to say. Though seeing as how we have already established that your comprehension skills are inadequate and not quite up to par, again your ignorance should come as no surprise. If you cannot admit that black crime is a massive out of control issue, you are dillusional and extremely closed minded. I would highly doubt that anyone or anything can get through to you.
ReplyDelete@Happy Jackoff FUCK OFF!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhite Racist assholes.
You honkies are the scourge of civilization. Everything you have you stole from someone else! The White crime rate is five times the Black rate. Too bad back in the 14th century the bubonic plague didn't wipe out the ENTIRE white race; the world would have been spared a lot of grief!!!
EAT SHIT AND DIE YOU SMELLY, WORTHLESS SON OF A SWINE BITCH!!!
Though you do not deserve and are not worthy of the effort it takes for a response, I must say that it is very unfortunate you are such an unhappy racist person. Your evil name really says it all. You wish death upon an entire race huh? What a guy you are. If you honestly believe that white crime is 5 times that of black crime, you are too far gone and are in desperate need of some serious research. I wonder how God will be judging you.
DeleteOne of my favorite web series right now is "Ask A Slave" creating by and staring Azie Mira Dungey.
ReplyDeleteHer take on how average white folks view slavery and their overall ignorance is sad and sharply witty at the same time.
She does a wonderful job of making people, black and white, rethink what it really must have been to be a slave.
