No place to learn.

Staff and students describe Bartram High School as chaotic. There is a public high school here in Philly that has been having all sorts of problems.

If you are up on You Tube you have probably seen some of the videos coming out of that excuse for a school, lately. Right in the middle of lunch there was an all out brawl that took place in the school cafeteria.

And, as if that isn't bad enough, a staffer was knocked unconscious by a hooligan masquerading as a student, and the same student was back in school a few days later.

This school is so out of control and dysfunctional that the school district has no idea how to deal with it. Before they can even talk about educating children they have to create a safe environment. And that, as it stands, is far from happening.

"Rudy Helton, the building engineer, has been busy replacing door handles and locks damaged when students break into classrooms, he said. He installed a slide bolt on locker-room doors, because unruly teens were using their ID cards to pick locks and cause trouble.

'There's no control,' Helton said.

Bartram made headlines during Pfeiffer's first year there, 1999, when an assistant principal was shot by a student in the school. Pfeiffer said things were worse now.

In interviews over the last week, more than 20 Bartram staffers and students described a school that's often in chaos.

Superintendent William R. Hite Jr., who made his fourth unannounced visit to Bartram on Thursday, acknowledged the school has problems. On Monday, he will send respected former district principal Ozzie Wright to help calm the school.

Hite also said he, the assistant superintendent responsible for the school, and its principal, Kimberly Collins, would work together on Bartram's discipline plan and to emphasize restorative practices, a program that stresses building relationships to prevent conflict.

Bartram, on South 67th Street in Southwest Philadelphia, has long struggled academically, but for a time, its climate was relatively good, thanks to a principal who stayed for a decade and was backed by a large, strong support staff.

But the principal left last year. And this year, the Philadelphia School District's budget crisis has hit hard - Bartram absorbed 100 students from a school that closed, yet still has fewer staffers. Over the last few years, it has lost assistant principals, a disciplinarian, librarian, counselors, and others.

Hite said the school was down two employees over the last year and the issue was "how to effectively deploy the resources that are there."'

OK, so let's talk about the elephant in the room: The parents of these children.

Just what the hell are they doing? Why aren't they training these children at home to prepare them for school? At some point we have to stop blaming the teachers, the school district, the counselors, and the damn building engineer for crying out loud! It's time to start pointing fingers at the people who brought these children here and are just turning them loose on the rest of us.

Another sad aspect of this story is that there are children at Bartram High School who want to learn, but who cannot because they find themselves in an environment that is not much better than one of the county prisons up on State Road here in Philly.

In fact, one might argue, the conditions at the prisons are safer.

"There are a number of vacancies at the school, with a number of teachers out for long stretches.

"Some kids have substitutes all day," said the teacher who asked not to be identified. "It's just a warehouse for these kids."

Even veteran Bartram teachers say they're worried.

"I'm even getting anxious to walk the halls any more," said another teacher who asked to remain anonymous.

Staffers like Stevenson are victims, certainly. But others suffer, too.

"There's a lot of talented, intelligent kids there that are getting the bad end of the stick," one teacher said.

Students interviewed at dismissal on Friday talked about fights and rowdy hallways, about trouble in the cafeteria.

"Kids do whatever they want," said senior Catherine Biziens, 18. "There's no structure."

Bartram is "out of control right now," said sophomore Ramira Andrews. She said she used to be afraid. Then, she said, "I got used to it."' [Source]

When children start getting "used" to fear we are in trouble as a society.

So why do we let these idiots run this school? Is it more important that the people in charge be black than that there be any semblance of competence?

And it's not the parents fault. it's liberal society's fault for enabling this dysfunction by paying illiterates to have babies and by destroying the concepts of discipline and responsibility.

This is the fruit of the Great Society. Enjoy.

Field, you obviously have not been paying attention. The parents DON'T KNOW HOW TO PARENT.

Haven't you been listening to Don Lemon, Bill O'Reilly and President Obama? These kids don't have any parents that can parent them because the parents need parenting themselves. Do you get it?

That's why Obama launched "My Brother's Keeper" to help those black kids.

Brother Field, you are a blogger in Philly who doesn't know much about Blacks. In other words, you don't know shit.

You would do well to listen to O'Reilly who has put himself on the line to help.

Even O'Reilly has admitted to ending his blaming the parents of these kids because he understands the parents know nothing about parenting. That's the point of "My Brother's Keeper".

    You are definitely a lawyer....dumb.

Brother Field, Philly is a terrible place to try to educate a child. I am so glad to be away from that town. It's corrupt and uncaring at all levels.

Brother Field, I know you think I'm White, but let me urge you to leave that town before it's too late. I mean, you yourself ended this post with:

"When children start getting "used" to fear we are in trouble as a society."

My brother, in Philly in the black communities, "fear" is the #1 malady. It's a cancer for Blacks, and for Whites who encounter Blacks. Adults are afraid, parents are afraid, teens are afraid, kids are afraid, no one is safe. It's been like that for decades.

Get out, Brother Field before it's too late. If you must stay, let everyone know that you are not AA. That's what I have done. I claim to be from the Dominican Republic and that claim has improved my life immensely where I live. I mean, Whites and Africans look at me completely different.

Let's face it...putting it mildly, it's NOT advantageous to be AA because there just isn't much of future for AAs. Nobody wants to be an AA, except maybe Granny and Dr Nuwang.

Hell, I bet even PilotX secretly wants to some other race, but he's trapped because he lives on the South Side of Chicago. Brother PilotX, I am so sorry that you are trapped in trap you cannot get out of. Thank God for Bayer Aspirin, right?

you know Good and well...folk need to- bass voiced- discuss the "donor" situation. man to man address one another. stop pretending like it is cool + cute. while all amazed at the lack of discipline coming from anywhere. you could start with jamaicans and stay busy for a looong time before you hit up american black men. lol. THAT is the point folk try to miss when american blacks speak on it.

no one is 'jealous' or unable to compete. we are just in our country and REALLY don't need immigrants from the messiest places running their faces while they grab every civil right won goodie they can get their immigrant hands on. take your degrees and go fix your mess in your homelands.

how hard is that to understand, really?

that out of control donor madness is coupled with solid demonic plans that are being implemented for the bigger new world order picture.

anyone calling it gets called a "conspiracy" theorist or some other baseless name.

there are schools all over the country where the teachers (both genders) are preying on children that are committed to doing what they will...in that season where most parents find themselves working overtime to save their children from themselves.

when it comes to sex folk are quick to pretend children are grown ups. what is happening in the schools that the children are not responding well to? maybe they don't like the core- we will tell you what you think, surveillance the whole day, get prepared for the corporate slave plantation or the penal system plantation so well?

are we really going to pretend our children are dealing with the same things we were? they are in the middle of madness that is next level on all levels. the children AND the parents.

that's if there are even parents in the picture. the deliberate breakdown of the family has been underway for longer than a minute.

those that won the genetic lottery, through no doing of their own, and have/had parents that get it...should REALLY get some compassion/addt'l information or acquainted with how to shut up. these same souls would not last a minute in the shoes of the children that literally fly by the seat of their pants in survival mode from their earliest time on earth.

FN- bottom line each and every post with the suggestion of sterilizing the mothers.

you will get to do that as long as you say "welfare". 'cause even though that should not conjure up pics of Black women...it does. for most folk despite it being a lie.

come with it the rest of the way. sterilizing folk would solve a lot of problems. and since the same demon spawn seems to run corrupt stuff year after year...suggest the sterilization of the mothers of all folk REALLY messing up. while you over here marveling at corrupt azz political families that stay doing the most.

would you dare to fix your mouth?

nope...you will save all that bold for "welfare" mothers...

it is hard to respect that kind of mess.

    seriously.

Charter and private/tized schools enjoy the luxury of picking and choosing students; they can also afford to expel violent/disruptive students. Free and public schools can ill afford to lose funding when violent/disruptive students are expelled. Funding "trumps" and precludes student safety and learning(irregardless the lip service paid otherwise).
"Personal responsibility" is European in origin; does not fit the Afro-centric, "Black" paradigm. As a consequence, we "blah"/African-American peoples are swept up in a downward spiraling vortex of mutual fratricide. Being a member of the "Black" tribe means eschewing any and all ideas/values associated with Euros.

What do you call a place where you can get fired from your job for opposing homosexual marriage? Or sued for damages in some Star Chamber quasi-court for refusing to photograph a homosexual wedding? Or that issues gay pride parade permits? Or where the government forces religious organizations to violate a central tenet of their faith by paying for healthcare that covers abortions?

Obama is now withholding aid to African nations in an effort to force them to normalize homosexuality. The people who run Voice from America are homosexual activists who proselytize not for political freedom, but for sexual deviancy.

Why has the homosexual agenda become the prime directive of the American government? Are we now living in the Evil Empire?

If a school "fails" standardized testing, the conservatives say the way to fix it is to cut funding so the school has even less to work with. The goal is to drive the public schools into total chaos so the private system (vouchers, charters, etc) can take over. The truth you speak carries power. I'm beginning to gain an understanding of "speaking Truth to power" in a very real spiritual sense. This is not an easy road to follow. It's much easier to just lie and pretend. I can sense this spiritual battle going on right 'inside' of me between choosing truth or lies-the easy way, or the hard way...the bs way to death, or the righteous way to life.

But when I was a adjunct Chemistry Professor, I DID have 2 "issues" with spoiled, rich, LAZY, White kids. And those 2 students ended up being the ONLY ones I've EVER failed. EVER."

Teenagers are all the same. No matter the color or social class. You kind of prove my point. If the kids that were no problem had a disciplined structure either at home or at school they would remain within those boundaries but if you have a kid with no supervision, well we all know what happens. Some rich kids have absentee parents and get into all kinds of trouble. Notice I used the word "teenagers". All young people need guidance because from ages 13-17 the goofiness factor is off the charts.

You folks are some sick breed..distorting the truths and realities just to defend your race.

Please don't equate our entire race based on Field and Nuwang. That would be totally unfair.

Field and Nuwang are speaking for "themselves" only. Most Blacks don't think, act or behave like they do.

More importantly, Blacks aren't 'compulsive' LIARS like Nuwang.

I agree that Nuwang is a very sick psycho. There's no question about it. The evidence is overwhelming and I wish she was not Black because she is a heavy liability to the black race.

But if you think she is crazy what about the ones who believe her obvious LIES, like brother Field? That's even a bigger embarrassment.

  41. Only in liberal utopia do issues like this exist.

Why is it liberals/socialist dance around and never admit their failed liberal policies/social engineering have lead them to what they are so desperately trying to fix and draw attention to?

"OK, so let's talk about the elephant in the room: The parents of these children."

Ok field. Let's talk about the parents aka government and why it is failing to raise its kids.

  42. "It appears you are once again playing the part of the victim. It is a role you perform exceedingly well I will admit."

I don't see myself as a victim Billy-boi. I have achieved more than you could ever hope to achieve.

My simply pointing out that you come here every fucking day of your sad pathetic excuse for a life because you have nothing more interesting to do does not make me a victim.

You are the victim here Billy-boi, I have never denied that.

  43. I HATE to go off topic here (actually I don't because my heart is in the right place) but spending time in the ER over the weekend in a major metropolitan city compels this comment.

Black folks have GOT to stop “digging your grave with your forks”!! Put another way, Black people need to get their eating habits IN CHECK!! Now allow me to be clear, I’m not just shaking my "normal BMI" finger at overweight Black folks in disgust, in fact quite the contrary. But EVERY Black patient I saw in the ER this past weekend except ONE, was in there due to a disease either directly or indirectly related to being overweight. From strokes to out of control “sugar”, we MUST get our health together! NOW!!!!

In the end, it won’t matter how great our schools are or how many of our civil rights are preserved if we don’t live long enough… or check this, HEALTHY enough, to enjoy it! Put another way, you likely will NOT have relatives willing to roll your paralyzed on the right hand side a$$ down to the voting booth to vote. And forget about getting a good wipe down or diaper change should you survive a major heart attack and be bed ridden. KEEP the ability to do those things for yourself, by living a healthier lifestyle!

    Soapbox dismounted!

Same reasons why conservatives ignore their failed experiments in places like Mississippi and Louisiana. Same shit different ingredients. We can play this game all day.

Then why do you keep telling me I'm abusing you? (1:10PM)

It's not the first time either.

    It's a pattern.

Thanks for telling me you have achieved more than I have, if you felt secure about yourself you wouldn't need to tell me.
That Freud guy talks about this kind of stuff, interesting reading.
