They were supposed to have a celebration for him in his hometown, but that has been canceled due to the influence of the Drudge/FOX right wing propaganda machine and a clueless American public.
I am still trying to figure out what it is about this guy that we didn't know years ago. I read that excellent Rolling Stone article back in 2012 for crying out loud, and everything we are learning about him now we read about him back then.
I suspect that all the politicians in Washington knew his story as well. Of course you wouldn't know it now by listening to the flip flopping from some of them.
"Republicans are executing some Looney Tunes-style moves as they scramble to condemn the deal releasing Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, after having earlier called on the Obama administration to work hard to secure his release:
In the clearest contradiction, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) told CNN’s Anderson Cooper in February that he “would be inclined to support” “an exchange of prisoners for our American fighting man,” like the one Taliban officials had offered in 2012. He has since labeled Obama’s deal “ill-founded” and a “mistake.” [...]
Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) — the ranking member of the Senate Armed Services Committee — has also said that the U.S. “must make every effort to bring this captured soldier home to his family.” But appearing on Fox News just days after Bergdahl’s release, Inhofe criticized the administration for agreeing to free “people who have killed Americans, people who are the brain power of Taliban.”New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte ran the same play, focusing repeatedly on the need for Bergdahl's release. Basically, for these charmers, it was "Bring him home, bring him home, why aren't you doing whatever is needed to bring him home? Sure, swap some prisoners, just bring him home" only to be followed by "why did you do that?" once Bergdahl was released. And if President Obama hadn't gone through with the deal and news of that had gone through, McCain would likely have gone charging onto the Sunday morning talk shows to denounce the president for leaving an American soldier in captivity. It's all about opposing Obama with these guys, always.
Several Republicans also celebrated Bergdahl's release on Twitter, only to delete those tweets as the issue became politicized. Those stalwarts include Reps. Lee Terry and Mark Amodei and Iowa Senate candidate Joni Ernst. For Democrats, meanwhile, the bottom line continues to be this:
We rescue our soldiers first and ask questions later. If action by justice system is needed, I prefer American justice over Taliban justice." [Source]
Bowe might tend to disagree.
Finally, back in the eighties I met a guy in my hometown who was visiting Jamaica and he wanted to smoke some collie.
He wanted to know where the best Jamaican ganja was and I told him (not being a weed smoker myself) that he could get good weed darn near anywhere on the island, but that the less humid parishes like Manchester and St Ann is probably where he would find his best stuff.
I saw the guy again a few weeks later and he told me that he was quitting his job in Texas and moving to Jamaica. "The shit is that good", he told me.
I thought about that dude while reading about Maureen Dowd's "excellent adventure" in Colorado.
Girlfriend wanted to do like the Romans while in Denver and found herself tripping out on some edible weed.
"What could go wrong with a bite or two?" Dowd writes in the column (titled "Don't Harsh Our Mellow, Dude"). "Everything, as it turned out."
According to Dowd, she didn't feel anything at first. But an hour later, while the 62-year-old was relaxing in her hotel room with a glass of chardonnay, things began to deteriorate:
'I felt a scary shudder go through my body and brain. I barely made it from the desk to the bed, where I lay curled up in a hallucinatory state for the next eight hours. I was thirsty but couldn’t move to get water. Or even turn off the lights. I was panting and paranoid, sure that when the room-service waiter knocked and I didn’t answer, he’d call the police and have me arrested for being unable to handle my candy. '
Maureen you naughty girl.
'I strained to remember where I was or even what I was wearing, touching my green corduroy jeans and staring at the exposed-brick wall. As my paranoia deepened, I became convinced that I had died and no one was telling me.'
After Dowd's near-death experience, she says she interviewed "a medical consultant at an edibles plant" who told her marijuana candy bars "are supposed to be cut into 16 pieces for novices," but that "hadn’t been on the label." [Source]
Maureen should have written an article or two while she was high, because unfortunately she hasn't written a decent one while sober for a minute.
Besides, I doubt that she is a "novice".
Some folks will do anything for attention.
So Americans who would rather not celebrate a deserter and possible traitor equals a "clueless American public"?

ReplyDeleteDamn, now I got that song stuck in my head "I was gonna write some stuff but I got high. Gonna win that Pulitzer too but I got high......and I know why....cause I got high cause I got high cause I got high".
I did the same thing that Ms Dowd did when I was a military brat in Iran the first time that I ate a chunk of hash. It was way too much. Way way too much. Ridiculously too much, but what did I know? If I'd have od'd that bad on any hard drug or alcohol, I'd never have still been sitting here today, but the kind herb left me, like Ms. Dowd, no worse for the experience.

" the Modern Progressives can have their Rock Star. There is probably no non-violent means left at our disposal to prevent this deserter from become a millionaire several times over for precisely the act of desertion that makes him so morally loathsome to many of his former comrades in arms. He is home because the New Left couldn’t leave one of their own behind. As a deserter who hated both the Army and America; he so completely represents everything they feel in their hearts about the US Military.'"
"They were supposed to have a celebration for him in his hometown, but that has been canceled due to the influence of the Drudge/FOX right wing propaganda machine and a clueless American public."
ReplyDeleteBrother Field, it's the 'Obama Administration' that has been clueless. Obama is a very poor manager. Had he investigated Berdahl, talked with the members of Congress on a regular basis, things would be different. A good sharp President would respect the Congress and keep them informed. And rightly so. They are part of the decision-making process.
But Obama didn't and now he is problems with the Congress, and by extension, the American people. During my lifetime, I have never seen a President who stays in trouble since he stepped into the WH. It's unbelievable! I mean, Obama keeps everybody "unhappy", including my own peeps...except of course, you and PX.

I like what Red State said about Bergdahl AND the progressive arrogant leftists. I hope they drown with this deserter. he cost the lives of six of his own unit. This guy is a bad guy...ugly. Even his unit is non-supportive.

Does the American army leave Americans behind - yes or no.
It's not a difficult fucking question numb nuts.

"Are you aware soldiers lost their lives looking for someone that deserted and didn't want to be found?"
Yeah, right...
The first two deaths the critics link to Sergeant Bergdahl involved a major assault by insurgents on a combat outpost called Zerok on July 4, 2009. Their view is that the Taliban knew the Americans were stretched thin by the search mission and took advantage of that opportunity to try to overrun it.
Mr. Bethea, the soldier who wrote the essay in The Daily Beast, said the company executive officer for the unit at Zerok believed that “the attack would not have happened had his company received its normal complement of intelligence aircraft: drones, planes, and the like. Instead, every intelligence aircraft available in theater had received new instructions: find Bergdahl. My friend blames Bergdahl for his soldiers’ deaths.”
Military officials, speaking in recent days, have countered that additional surveillance aircraft had been brought in from other areas to help in the search, so air traffic in the region was intensified, not diminished, by the search.
Separately, context supplied by the leaked logs complicates claims that insurgents attacked the outpost because of the hunt.
Insurgents had been shooting at the outpost with escalating intensity in the preceding months. A June 24 log described a mortar attack inside its perimeter and cited intelligence that insurgents were planning a “complex ambush” of the outpost.
And a log recounting the July 4 attack said it confirmed “recent reporting regarding Mullah Sangeen’s desire to conduct a spectacular attack” against the outpost. The log did not mention the hunt for Sergeant Bergdahl. Still, one soldier from Sergeant Bergdahl’s battalion said that response time after the attack had been slow, and argued the issue was not if the outpost was going to be attacked, but rather when insurgents chose to attack it.
The first and most intense phase of the search operation wound down after July 8. But former soldiers say and the logs show that the hunt continued sporadically as patrols were sent out to chase rumors that Sergeant Bergdahl had been spotted."

Feel free to ignore ALL the facts you don't like, Bill-oh.
Continued...
ReplyDeleteThe other six American deaths in Paktika that summer occurred from Aug. 18 to Sept. 5, which Sergeant Bergdahl’s critics link to him as well.
“You see a lot of anger because we lost guys not only at Zerok, but a decent amount of good guys looking” for him, said a soldier from his unit who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Where those events are identifiable in the logs, they do not mention any link to Bergdahl search operations, although the logs are terse and contain few contextual details.
Mr. Bethea wrote that of the six men killed in August and September, two died in a roadside bombing while on a reconnaissance mission, a third was shot during a search for a Taliban political leader and three others were killed while conducting patrols — two in an ambush and one who stepped on a mine.
He suggested some connection to Sergeant Bergdahl for several of the deaths, saying the Taliban leader and a village that was in the area of one of the patrols were “thought affiliated with Bergdahl’s captors.” He also said a village in the areas of the other patrol was “near the area where Bergdahl vanished.”
Still, those villages and insurgents were in the overall area of responsibility for the soldiers, and the logs make clear that the region was an insurgent hotbed. A log on May 21, 2009, for example, said it had historically been a “safe haven” for the Taliban.
A retired senior American military officer, who was briefed at the time on the search for Sergeant Bergdahl, said that even though soldiers were instructed to watch for signs of the missing American, they would have been conducting patrols and performing risky operations anyway.
“Look, it’s not like these soldiers would have been sitting around their base,” he said.
The soldier who spoke on condition of anonymity agreed that it was “ludicrous” to lay 100 percent of the blame for the deaths at Sergeant Bergdahl’s feet, and he acknowledged that patrols were going to get hit in Paktika during fighting season anyway.
But, he said, the reason he and his colleagues are angry is that too often that summer, the purpose of their patrols into dangerous areas was not ordinary wartime work like reconnaissance, maintaining a security presence, or humanitarian projects, but rather “to go look for this guy.”

"To defend Obama, PurpleCow is forced to cite a liar."
ReplyDeleteThe Obama administration's public statements about Bowe Bergdahl, have been nothing but lies. The weird part is why they feel lying is necessary - even as experience has shown they can be pretty damn sure of geting away with it.
There is substantial evidence to suggest that Bergdahl deserted his post in 2009 and his fellow soldiers while on duty in a war zone.
So why did the White House send National Security Adviser Susan Rice to the Sunday shows to claim that Bergdahl "served the United States with honor and distinction"?
It wasn't necessary. Rice, speaking for the White House, could have said something to the effect that "Bowe Bergdahl is a troubled young man who made a terrible mistake. Nevertheless, he is an American soldier, and the United States wants him back. The president had a difficult decision to make in balancing the release of the Taliban detainees with this country's longstanding policy of not leaving U.S. forces behind in a war zone, no matter the circumstances.
Matter closed. But no, the Obama administration thinks they're that smart, and we're that stupid. It doesn't matter what the actual facts are, they are confident enough of their own brilliance, the media's loyalty, and the public's drooling mental slowness, that they can spin exotic new realities in press conferences and #HashtagsForJustice.
They have been lying about this guy for years, and ordering soldiers to lie:

ReplyDeleteI can't believe no one recommended to Maureen Dowd that she just go smoke a joint instead of that THC-laced candy bar. The thing about edible marijuana is that it's hard to control the dosage you're consuming.
ReplyDeleteI am no pothead, but I did smoke occasionally back in college. And the one time I consumed pot brownies, I had an unpleasant experience similar to Dowd's, where I was simultaneously painfully paranoid yet completely unmotivated to move out of the recliner in which I was sitting for several hours.
So now this chick writes a column about how horrible pot is, based on her having effectively OD'd on pot -- something that's atypical of most users' experiences. In a way, there is still a conclusion about the safety pot that can be drawn from her too-much-ganja freakout: If you're going to OD on any drug, let it be pot, because the worst that will happen is a few unpleasant hours. Overdose on coke or heroin, and it's a trip to the hospital -- or the morgue.
"There is probably no non-violent means left at our disposal to prevent this deserter from become a millionaire several times over for precisely the act of desertion that makes him so morally loathsome to many of his former comrades in arms."
ReplyDeleteA millionaire several times over? What a fantasy. This guy isn't some kind of hero to liberals. He's just another soldier, albeit one that spent 5 years in captivity. We'll hear about him for the next six months and then probably never again.
"He is home because the New Left couldn’t leave one of their own behind."
He is home because it's always repugnant to leave any soldier in the hands of our nation's enemies. Service people don't suddenly lose their value as human beings because Sarah Palin doesn't like them. It's deeply revealing of conservatives' warped beliefs that citizens should have value or human rights based on whether or not they personally respect them or have something in common with them.
That's actually the purest expression of what American conservatism really is: If you have the right amount of money, or the right religion, or are the right color, you count as a human being; otherwise, you're dog shit.

Time Magazine, June 5, 2014:
ReplyDeleteA Taliban commander close to the negotiations over the release of U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl told TIME Thursday that the deal made to secure Bergdahl’s release has made it more appealing for fighters to capture American soldiers and other high-value targets.
“It’s better to kidnap one person like Bergdahl than kidnapping hundreds of useless people,” the commander said, speaking by telephone on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak to the media. “It has encouraged our people. Now everybody will work hard to capture such an important bird.”
That's why you don't negotiate with terrorists.
But they are not "terrorists" they are enemy combatants.
ReplyDeleteYou do know that there is a war going on, right?
Or is that too nuanced and complicated for you to understand?
The right has been deliberately conflating terrorists with legitimate resistance fighters since 2001. Taliban prisoners are the latter, and will have to be freed when we withdraw from Afghanistan just as were the thousands of Iraqi combatants that we had to free or turn over to the Iraqi govt. when we finished that war.

ReplyDeleteAnd this is scary, why? It's not as if the Taliban wouldn't always capture any American soldier they could get their hands on. This is a war zone -- kill or capture is the name of the game.
But generally speaking, the Taliban don't have much opportunity to capture American servicemen, because they are outmatched by superior U.S. firepower. Most of the time, the best they can do is conduct a slow guerilla war of attrition, killing one or two American soldiers at a time. There is a reason that Bowe Bergdahl was the only American POW in Afghanistan, and it's not because the Taliban wanted it that way.
As for the people we released, they are not, and never were, terrorists. That goes for almost everyone ever imprisoned at Guantanamo, actually.

Hmmmm. I agree that bw as a 'group' are waaay too big. In fact, they are HUGE. I still wonder what is happening in our black community, as well as society at large, that causes such monstrous black women?
What does a bw do to become so large they look deformed? Does anybody have a clue? It's so unattractive and ugly. I see them dresses in mini-skirts weighing 200-300lbs...easily. I have seen them over 300lbs too. In Oakland, it is common to sisters like that.
What is uncommon is a sister looking feminine and at normal weight of a woman. Most bw outweigh the bm by a long shot.
What gives with this? does anybody know?
The internet Doctor: "And the fact is the one of the reasons Black women have higher mortality rates from ALL forms of cancer except Melanoma (thanks to melanin) is because they're too big. Actually change that, Black women as group are TOO DAMN BIG and it's killing them!"
ReplyDeleteSo as a black woman yourself, why would you denigrate and make mockery of obese/overweight black women if you know they have such a higher mortality rate? What kind of professional are you?
And do you think it's just a mere coincidence that/why "black women as a group" are overweight? There are great emotional, economical, cultural/societal and historical dynamics behind this.... but it's obvious you are too shallow and lack the intellectual insight to even analyze such cause and effect.
I don't recall FP ever saying anything to give reason that she was "overweight". But somehow you think you're being witty by continuously assuming and calling others "shamu" over the internet. Just like a monkey with that one trick in his bag, you are too stupid to come up with anything else. Go ahead, call me manless and Shamu as well. Yawn. I know who I am.
You are not hurting FP, you are insulting actual obese black women who might be reading. They already know how shallow and insecure people like you tend to feel about them. If losing the weight and keeping it off was so easy, many of them would have done it already.
I know an obese black woman who is an actual Doctor/Scientist. She has two Doctorate degrees, one in Medicine and the recent in Pharmaceutical Science. She is such a brilliant and beautiful person inside and out. She struggled all her life with obesity and mockery from people, especially ghettofied, hyper-sexual, foul mouthed, phallus obsessed black women like yourself who never paid attention in school, but now want to come on the internet pretending to be somebody.
I guess it's safe and easy degrading and mocking other black women due to visual flaws, but what about the 'other' deadly stats that are not so visual? Here are more stereotypical statistics for you. They say black women as a 'group' have a growing rate of HIV/AIDS and various STDs, especially those married. Are you one of them? We all can make assumptions too.
Grow up already. You are not and will never be a person of intellectual, nor professional caliber.
@ Doc with many names...
ReplyDeletepoint of agreement:
"Telling the truth is NOT being mean, it's stating facts."
now pay close attention to what Trolly wrote @ 11:41pm and go ahead and nod in agreement. 'cause she wasn't being mean, she was telling the truth.
you ridicule Blessed Black women that happen to carry extra weight, thinking you insult me. when i am a size 4/6. size 8 when i fluctuate. and if i were the national average for ALL women size 12/14...so what?
ridicule won't fix obesity. quite the opposite in fact.
health professionals that care would not just point out the conditions. they would be giving the knowledge necessary to heal those most in need of it.
Blessed Black women MUST learn to Love one another better.
i will do my part in that charge and not stoop to lower levels with you now nor in the future. we are not enemies. despite what you have imagined in your mind. nor do i really care what you think of me. in fact, i am amused you think of me so often, when there is so many more pressing things that could occupy that mental space of yours.
@ Trolly-
knocked it out the park with your comment sis.
@ Anon taking shots @ Blessed Black women in oakland, i would only ask if you notice how feminine quite a few menfolk, all colors, are these days?
ALL is being inverted/perverted right before our eyes. yet...
folk can only see and comment harshly on the condition of the daughters of Sion.
how convenient + cowardly. do better. please. thank you.
FP, "@ Anon taking shots @ Blessed Black women in oakland, i would only ask if you notice how feminine quite a few menfolk, all colors, are these days?

I am not taking pot shots at bw, I am stating my observations and wishing their bodies were different. Oakland is full of them. To make matters worse, they dress to accentuate their obesity. And they are loud and boisterous.
As far as black menfolk being feminine, there are plenty of them...I see them all the time. Afterall, this IS the Bay Area.. It's a haven for gay men, lesbians, bi-sexuals and transvestites.
Talk about being inverted and perverted, the Bay Area is the Place. However, I bet LA has it share of perversion and inversion too. As a matter of fact, our country is well on its way toward becoming just that.
I guess I did take a swipe at our women. Seeing all of that obesity, and I mean 'huge' angers me. Bm on the dl angers me. I sometimes see we keep denigrating ourselves more and more, year after year, decade after decade.
At what point do we begin to develop dignity and healthy pride instead of vociferous ugliness? It's NOT just bw, it's bm too. To sum it up, it's the whole damn race. Yes, I'm pissed about our condition because there isn't a damn thing I can do about it.
Furthermore, no one seems to care, anyway...esp the obese ones or the gay ones. They seem to enjoy their outlandish ways.
This is called classic pitcher and catcher. You pitch then you run to the other side and catch, you throw and run again to catch, and on and on.:D Exhausting huh? No wonder you get confused! LOL!
ReplyDeleteTroll,LAaudiobooks,FP,anon,et al,.all of Sybil.
and of course you are the smart one, because according to you anyone that has a college or higher education is actually just "brainwashed by the system"
So you assert that you with perhaps a 9th grade education, give or take a couple of grades, and a stint in prison (by your own admission)for God knows what, are the intellectually superior one!
Yeah, keep on dreaming, that weed must be the bad kind!

DQAE, STFU. Shouldn't you be studying? I mean, shouldn't you be taking med school seriously? Most doctors do. They don't have time for bs on a blog...esp one like FN.
However, if you are NOT in med school but pretending to be, it's understandable why you spend so much time on FN. It's because you are a phony and trying to convince those of us you are a 'for real' med student.
The problem is, NO ONE BELIEVES YOU AND NO ONE CARES....LOSER!!
You care. You care very much, obviously. :) this is not Doc btw.:) She doesn't play cat and mouse with you like I do. You know that right?
ReplyDeleteBuahahahaha!
Nope, you are DQAE. there is no doubt.

As a health professional she is obliged to tell the truth as she sees it. It is her responsibility and she has taken an oath to do so in order to help mankind.
But what would you know about that?
Cutting and pasting verses all day in order to give yourself a fake persona. Among other thins :)
and let's not forget insulting people as you see fit in your ignorance!
So who's the real coward? and who needs to step up and do better? :D
Now I know who anon11:15am is. You're the gay guy who hates the Bible, religion and FP. Hatred never builds up character, it tears down character. And yours is at rock bottom.
