Tonight we read the words of a bi-racial sister (no, not Lisa Bonet) who has a message for her white friends.
"Dear White America,
Every comment or post I have read today voicing some version of disdain for the people of Baltimore — “I can’t understand” or “They’re destroying their own community” or “Destruction of Property!” or “Thugs” — tells me that many of you are not listening. I am not asking you to condone or agree with violence. I just need you to listen. You don’t have to say anything if you don’t want to, but instead of forming an opinion or drawing a conclusion, please let me tell you what I hear:
I hear hopelessness
I hear oppression
I hear pain
I hear internalized oppression
I hear despair
I hear anger
I hear poverty
If you are not listening, not exposing yourself to unfamiliar perspectives, not watching videos, not engaging in conversation, then you are perpetuating white privilege and white supremacy. It is exactly your ability to not hear, to ignore the situation, that is a mark of your privilege. People of color cannot turn away. Race affects our lives every day. We must consider it all the time, not just when it is convenient.
As a person of color, even if you are privileged your whole life, as I have been, you cannot escape from the shade of your skin. Being a woman defines me; coming from a relatively affluent background defines me; my sexual orientation, my education, my family and my job define me. Other than being a woman, every single one of those distinctions gives me privilege in our society. Yet, even with all that privilege, people still treat me differently.
For most of my childhood, I refused to allow race to be my most defining feature. I actually chose for most of my childhood to refuse race as my most defining feature. But I found that a very hard position to maintain, given the way the world interacts with me and the people I love. Because I have to worry about my brother and my cousins getting stopped by the police. Because people react to my wonderful, kind, intelligent father differently, depending on whether he’s wearing a suit or sweat pants. Race has defined the way I see the world like no other characteristic has.
This can be hard to understand, if you never experienced it firsthand. So again, for just one more moment, reserve your judgments and listen. This is what you might come to realize, if you spent your days in my skin.
In childhood: People regularly ask “What are you” instead of “Who are you?” This will not end, either. In high school, one kid even asks if you are “Mulatto,” which, according to some scholars, originally meant “little mule.”
A few years later: Go on a road trip with your mom. Refuse to get out of the car at a gas station in the boondocks, because you are sure the person with the Confederate flag bumper sticker is going to realize your white mother married a black man and hurt her (and you too, being the byproduct of said union). He’s carrying a rifle on a gun rack. Now even more terrifying.
As a teenager: Be the only person of color in the majority of your Advanced Placement classes, even though there are a decent number of brown and black people at your school. For years following 9/11, get “randomly” selected for the additional screening at the airport.
In college: People assume you got into Princeton because of affirmative action. They refuse to believe it could be because you are smart.
In adulthood: Your younger brother has been stopped in his own neighborhood — the neighborhood he has lived in all his life – and asked what he could possibly be doing there.
At your workplace: For two years in a row the NYPD shows up randomly at the school you work at, which has a 100 percent minority student body. The first time the police don’t even tell the school beforehand. The cops just show up early in the morning, set up a metal detector and X-ray scanner, and fill the cafeteria with dozens of policemen. As your young students file in in the morning, the NYPD scans them like they’re going through airport security right after 9/11. They confiscate cellphones, and pat some of students down, particularly the older-looking boys. As you watch this, you feel anger welling up in your chest and almost start to cry. You think, “Why are you treating my kids like criminals?!” Children are in tears. The screenings are not due to any specific threat, but rather as part of a “random screening program” — but one that never seems to make its way to the Upper East Side. White America’s children are told they can go to college, be anything. These students are treated like suspects. And that is exactly what society will tell your children one day, unless something changes.
Today, tomorrow, every day: White people around you refuse to talk about what is happening in this country. The silence is painful to experience.
These are my experiences. They have deeply affected who I am. And I am SO PRIVILEGED. Mine has been a decidedly easy life for a person of color in America. I try to conceptualize what it is like for my students who got wanded by the NYPD, my students who have been stopped and frisked, my students whose parents work multiple jobs, my students on free and reduced-price lunch, my students whom white adults move away from because they look “scary.”
I try, when I can, to listen to them, because only by validating their feelings can we begin to find a way to overcome the challenges they face. That doesn’t mean I let them off easy when they do something wrong. But I try to understand the why.
I don’t need you to validate anyone’s actions, but I need you to validate what black America is feeling. If you cannot understand how experiences like mine or my students’ would lead to hopelessness, pain, anger, and internalized oppression, you are still not listening. So listen. Listen with your heart.
If you got this far, thank you. By reading this, you have shown you are trying. Continue the conversation, ask questions, learn as much as you can, and choose to engage. Only by listening and engaging can we move forward.

Hey, I know that Kat Williams say that we should all get some white friends, and I am cool with that. But if they are going to be our friends we have an obligation to be honest with them.

Hey, I know that Kat Williams say that we should all get some white friends, and I am cool with that. But if they are going to be our friends we have an obligation to be honest with them.
Now, help me understand...
ReplyDeleteOkay, so Big Pussy in the Sopranos went fed on the crew, and he started complaining that people were viewing him differently. They're giving him looks. They're making comments. They know! When Skip suggested, "Maybe it's you who's different."
Well...not to draw a 1:1 equivalency or anything, but does it ever cross peoples' minds in the similar shoes of this woman that maybe it's them who's "different" per the way they think? Could it possibly be that, when in a group of whites, she's the one who views herself as different and thus projects on everyone else that it's everyone else?
I mean, these kinds of stories are so incredibly commonplace that you can run into 10 by accident. A POC talking about how they're treated so differently.
But what's more likely:
1) Every fucking white person they meet in the world is a fucking racist?
2) They themselves hold themselves up and identify as being "different" and thus they read the exchanges through tinted lenses?
I cheated on a girlfriend back in like '03, which is unusual for me. And every fucking word she said to me or look she gave me, the one thing going through my head: "She knows!"
She didn't have a fucking clue. I was the one projecting that onto her.
Seriously. I don't want to pooh-pooh this lady's experiences. She seems to genuinely believe that people are treating her differently.
But maybe, just maybe, she's the one viewing herself as different than everyone else and is thus reading into every exchange as having bias against her.
The one common theme with every story similar to this is: Everyone else on the entire fucking planet are the ones who have to change, never the individuals who present themselves as victims of discriminatory treatment.
Maybe people do treat her differently. Shit if I know. But it's also just as likely--perhaps even more so--that she's the one who views herself different, like a special snowflake, and thus takes personally every exchange and invents sinister motives where they don't exist. Paranoia is part of the human psyche. Once you add in an actual precedent of people being treated differently because of their skin, well, you have the makings for countless stories like these; e.g. "I'm privileged, I'm this, I'm that, but I'm also POC -- and this means everyone's a racist in my day-to-day."
Not impossible, though improbable.
What really goads me the most is that it's people like this woman who insist that everyone else needs to dig down deeper, get to their innermost feelings, and listen to other people to understand their plight. But if you're honest with yourself, you'll notice that these people never demand that same standard of themselves. They don't have to reflect internally; they don't have to listen to the other side's story; they don't need to know the other side at all. They present the case as if they already have it all figured out, and it's case fucking closed. The entire world is discriminating against them and needs to change.
Maybe she just needs to stop assuming every crooked look or unflattering comment is due to her skin color. "Because I'm black" isn't the explain-all affliction of every unpleasant thing you'll ever have to endure socially in your life.
Jesus fucking Christmas, people. Life's a hell of a thing to happen to everyone. Lower your shield and stop projecting onto everyone else your own issues with yourself.
Check your privilege, lady.
like the past, once again whites lead the was in the investigations of themselves. They ALWAYS have an ace up their sleeves. This time there is the phantom rider in the police van that "HEAR" what is happening in the back of the van. It is important for him NOT to see the action in the rear. IF HE HAD TO TESTIFY- it would be hard for his description of events co-relates with the forensics. It is EASY TO BE an "ear-witness". Things always fit for them. Then they depend on the news media to pound those lies into our mind-set.
ReplyDeleteFor 60 years of my life I have known this formula works. Until the day civilians are present from minute one of the investigation you will NEVER feel like you are doing the right thing.
Now, this is no revolution when you see TANKS at the rear of these police lines. Most people don't have a clue to the armament present on those wheels. Until ALL Black people get on board, I may stay home. Marching only wear out your shoe leather. Now I am looking at all the Black elites marching and getting face time. One easily recognized star even made a cameo appearance with a pseudonym. This takes away because the media use the fact that if this person can sell a million records- every one can do it to raise out the ghetto.
Needless to say the pols getting face time WILL NOT BITE the hands that feed them. Blacks coming out of poverty only feel- I got mine, you get yours".
We too have a situation in Portsmouth, VA where white officers have killed two unarmed Blacks this mouth. Again one officer said "I was afraid" so he busted a cap in the Brother. The Black race has become numb to all these shootings. But when the President call distressed people "thugs" and other disparaging names, I have no respect for him as a man. When the Tea Party shut down the government- which harms more people that the riots, I don't recall any name calling.
To my white friends- now is not the time. I am like President Bush. Either you with me or against me. I cant get over a man calling name while dropping bombs on who knows who.
Hah, hah, hoo hoo....the troop of monkeys are now in de skreets of the City of Bruthaly Love. They don't want to hear the long-term criminal might have beat himself to death. Maybe St. Zimmerman was there?
ReplyDeleteSuck on it, field. I told you your beloved city is/was a cesspile.
Josh didn't hear a word of that woman's letter to Whites. When are we going to STOP talking to them? All that happens is more white rationalization that ignores what Blacks say.
ReplyDeleteJust STOP. just STOP. It's doing no good. It's just a repeat, a rerun, over and over again. For centuries, the cycle keeps going....JUST STOP.
And yes, stillapanther, I understand your concern. Why would we need TANKS ( tho, they are not),
ReplyDeleteWell, because to protect the LEO's both black, brown, white, and purple, from idiots throwing rocks, Molotov cocktails, and such.
I don't like cops either.
Do you hear anything from the Black Officers Union protesting this?
Man, what a heartfelt letter. Sick that in this modern time a kid has to be scared of some moron with a confederate flag and gun rack. She would have felt the same way on the 50's or 60's. Some folks are S.O.S.
ReplyDeleteSAP2, "

-----------
There was no name calling. Never is. But that's only the case when you are White. It the Tea Party was Black, you can be sure they would have been called a bunch of names.
Of course, by Josh's logic, Blacks are only projecting their feelings of difference on Whites when there is no difference. Imagine that! Centuries of racism and Josh claims Blacks are projecting shit on them.
We need to STOP trying to reason; STOP pleading to Whites to "listen". It won't happen. Why should they listen? There is no skin off their backs.
SAP2--"To my white friends- now is not the time. I am like President Bush. Either you with me or against me. I cant get over a man calling name while dropping bombs on who knows who."
----------
Brother, when are you going to realize that you don't have any white friends? If you do, they are 'fair weather racist' friends. When the storm comes, they are not going to be there...As Blacks, we should know that by now.
Lt Commander Johnson, "Do you hear anything from the Black Officers Union protesting this?"
ReplyDelete10:58 PM
----------
No. It will not happen? Why should they protest and lose their jobs?
Besides, they are probably afraid for their lives. Why do you think it's taking so long for the evidence to come forward even though there is a black Chief of Police, a Black Police Commissioner, a Black Mayor?
They are afraid. You see, Blacks carry the dysfunctional gene that paralyzes them with fear. It has been passed down generation after generation from slavery.
Cowards die a thousand times during their lifetime. The brave only die once.
This is all so very sad, so,so achingly, disturbingly sad...There is no peace, no justice, only barbaric hatred and violence of man towards man...
ReplyDeleteWords cannot describe how sad I feel for all of the lives lost, all of the families suffering the unspeakable suffering of violence and loss. It really becomes too much...
This woman's letter was heartfelt, but if she has any friends, they should be honest and tell her the brutal truth: Her argument won't work.
ReplyDeleteThere are some black people saying things along the lines of: no one will hear our concerns, so this will make them listen.
But it won't. Not in my experience. Violence doesn't tend to lead to understanding. Almost no one is ever in an understanding mood when they see buildings being burned, businesses being looted and destroyed, and innocent people being sent to the hospital. Attitudes harden, and they just see a threat that must be dealt with.
Like it or not, a great many of the non-black people watching at home as Baltimore burns will come away with the message that black people really are naturally crazy and violent, that maybe the cops aren't so unreasonable to shoot first and ask questions later. "Privilege" arguments won't alter this. I still remember my grandmother, when I was growing up, saying that black people rioted "for no reason."
This sort of approach is entirely counterproductive to the goals the police reform protesters are working toward. In the end, it will only produce a terrible crackdown that will leave miserable people in even greater misery.
Black commentators in a position to be heard should not be suggesting that rioting and mayhem is a rational, and even quite sensible, reaction to the poverty and hopelessness in places like inner-city Baltimore. They may not be able to prevent rioting, but they definitely shouldn't be chucking gasoline on the fire.
"Josh didn't hear a word of that woman's letter to Whites. When are we going to STOP talking to them? All that happens is more white rationalization that ignores what Blacks say..."
ReplyDeleteThanks for proving my point. It's only a one-sided conversation. You demand everyone else listen to you, but you think you have the other side figured the fuck out without having to listen or check your own biases. You pawn the entirety of it off on everyone else, and demand they change to accommodate you. You illustrate this perfectly.
"Of course, by Josh's logic, Blacks are only projecting their feelings of difference on Whites when there is no difference. Imagine that! Centuries of racism and Josh claims Blacks are projecting shit on them."
Another one? LMAO...again, thanks for proving my point.
As I plainly fucking said, I'm not pooh-poohing this lady's experiences. Maybe they really are her experiences!
But does the fucking question threaten you so much, asshole, that it cannot even be asked?
What if she is just projecting her own shit on everyone else?
The problem is that the storytellers in these situations demand that everyone else do some soul searching and look at their innermost being to weed out ingrained prejudices, but notice how the person telling the story never has to look at themselves in the mirror that closely. They simply pawn it off as everyone else's problem.
What the fuck is wrong with asking the question? What's so abrasive about wanting to know the truth that you cannot even abide reading someone daring to question a victim blaming the entire rest of society for how she feels?
This is a woman who admits she's from privilege, from money, went to a good school, etc, etc. Is it truly beyond the realm of possibility that people treat her differently because she carries herself as a snob or something? Maybe she's a bitch to people IRL, and thus people treat her accordingly. And she has low self-awareness and, like TPC, throws out "because I'm black" as the immediate and only possible answer.
That's not possible? That's not a question that should be asked without you becoming indignant?
Why can't I even ask the question if she's just projecting her own shit onto others?
For all this fucking bellyaching I hear about the "conversation" and "dialogue" that's desired in America, we all know it's pure bullshit. Your ilk want to preach that it's all the fault of white people, and they need to STFU and listen.
That's all that's demanded. You want to tell white people how they live, how they carry themselves, what they're doing wrong, and how they need to act. And even questioning whether or not this woman experienced actual discrimination or if she's mistaken causes you to act like a cunt, bitching that someone even dares to ask.
So, again, thanks, y'all, for proving my fucking point for me. Field's hands never let me down...
And by the bye:
ReplyDelete"Josh didn't hear a word of that woman's letter to Whites."
"to Whites" -- that's the biggest part of the fucking point I'm making!
Just reverse the roles, for any situation under the sun, and see how you'd take a "letter to blacks" coming from whites who suppose they know everything about being black, how blacks really act, and that they really mean B when they say A, and all the other shit schmucks so willingly and gleefully assume about white people.
It's a letter to whites, blaming whites, and demanding whites search deep within themselves and ultimately change.
But who appointed her the arbiter of the human condition? Why can't I even wonder if she's the motherfucker who needs to change in the scenario?
You racist twats can't hide.
"But it won't. Not in my experience. Violence doesn't tend to lead to understanding. Almost no one is ever in an understanding mood when they see buildings being burned, businesses being looted and destroyed, and innocent people being sent to the hospital. Attitudes harden, and they just see a threat that must be dealt with."
ReplyDeleteYeah, I know. I didn't expect Whites to feel anything for what's right anyway whether Blacks kept the peace or not. Whites have no sense of justice toward Blacks anyway. They only have a sense of injustice.
Hell, take the TM killing. Even Al Sharpton asked for calm and to let the 'justice system' do its job. Yeah it did it's job alright. Just like it has always done....another dead bm who was rightfully killed by a wm.
Yep. The Blacks kept the peace. The only violence was that of Zimmerman.
In Baltimore, however, there is an obvious killing by the cops. Just like there was a wrongful murder of Gardner in NYC. And, it was caught on tape. Still the murderer went free.
Same thing is going to happen in the Baltimore case. There won't be a conviction at all. Once again, NO JUSTICE.
Well first of all shit for brains, Zimmerman IS NOT White. He is Hispanic, open your eyes and look at the guy.
DeleteAre Blacks really that fucking stupid that they can't differentiate between Hispanics and whites? Oh wait a minute, do we all look alike to blacks?
JOSH, "For all this fucking bellyaching I hear about the "conversation" and "dialogue" that's desired in America, we all know it's pure bullshit. Your ilk want to preach that it's all the fault of white people, and they need to STFU and listen."
ReplyDeleteWell, she should know better. Your ilk never listens. Your White Privilege won't allow you to 'hear' anything outside your superiority.
You are one evil arrogant condescending asshole. I am wasting time and life talking to a nut like you.
Now that it has been Freddie Gray's death has been proven to have been self-inflicted, are y'all gonna shut the fuck up?
ReplyDelete"In college: People assume you got into Princeton because of affirmative action. They refuse to believe it could be because you are smart."
ReplyDeleteIt's an acknowledged fact that Ivy League schools give blacks 200 bonus points on their SATs. So, yeah, there's always an Affirmative Action factor with blacks at top schools.
Meanwhile, maybe she was no better as a student than Michelle Obama, who wrote an embarrassingly bad senior thesis, which is available online, so you can judge for yourself.
Can you provide us the evidence blah folks get 200 points? Thanks. Also we would much rather read your senior thesis. I'm sure it was downright brilliant.
DeleteI'm sorry for all my misdeeds. Will you forgive me?
ReplyDeleteJust like all blacks aren't criminals, all euro-Americans' aren't racist. However, Manifest Density requires that the majority of euro-ams see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil and admit no evil in relation to those racist cowards who hide within their ranks.
ReplyDeleteAnd the hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil and speak no evil is different from every other race in what way?
DeleteBlacks do the same shit. No protests/riots for good law abiding blacks that are killed that is reserved for scumbag low life criminals like Brown and Gray and aspiring gangsta ' s like Trayvon.
When there are protests in the streets for career criminals and wannabe thugs I tune out. I just don't care. I also don't care when some white thug/lowlife/criminal is shot by police. That's called good community work in my books.
dear mr fields, either josh goes or i go. i have been on fn for years and have encountered attacking racists before here but josh is over the top and outside of the human race.
ReplyDeletewhy do you put up with this albino animal? he makes me ashamed to be white and conservative.
Ahhhhh, does the little precious need a safe zone where no uncomfortable questions can pierce the fog of delusion?
DeleteIt's okay precious, here have a gold star just for being you.
"dear mr fields, either josh goes or i go."
ReplyDeleteThen go, cunt. That you take someone asking a simple, honest question as "attacking" means you're probably too weak to even be on the Internet.
Go find a hugbox that serves as a safe space for your confirmation bias.
When someone seeks to put it on an entire race of people that they all need to listen and change, sorry, but I'm asking the question: Is she really experiencing discrimination, or is she just projecting?
AGAIN, why is that simple question the cause of so much fucking butthurt!? Why can't that question be asked.
Why are you afraid of that question?
If it were a white person addressing black people and assuming things about their character, that shit wouldn't fly on this blog. And I know that for a fucking fact, as it's been tried and swatted down before. Yet when it's a POC vs. white people, I can't even ask a fucking question without folks losing their shit.
Maybe you lot want to live in an echo chamber wherein you only hear your own views bouncing off the walls back to your ears, but I'd rather experience diversity where it actually fucking matters. Not a person's skin, but a person's thought and character. The shit that makes a person, not their genetics.
This is something that many folks here cannot abide. Even asking a simple question is considered to be "attacking" and makes me an "animal."
Yeah, get lost, sissy. This isn't the hugbox you're looking for...
Hey No-Slappz is back. I guess her Ivy League education and career kept her away from us so long.
ReplyDeleteJOSH, "If it were a white person addressing black people and assuming things about their character, that shit wouldn't fly on this blog. And I know that for a fucking fact, as it's been tried and swatted down before. Yet when it's a POC vs. white people, I can't even ask a fucking question without folks losing their shit."
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you come up with your negative assessment of FN but it's way off. FN is, and will continue to be an open-minded respectful blog.
You need to calm down and try to own up to your faults instead of whining about it.
About two months ago, I wrote a response that started out saying, "Black people," and finished by asking a question.
ReplyDeleteI was bombarded by over a dozen people calling me racist, saying I don't speak for black people, calling me ignorant, lambasting me for even saying "black people," etc, etc...
Yet, with storytellers like the lady in this article, she can address "white people," and the question cannot even be asked whether or not she's experienced genuine discrimination or if she's only projecting.
Why?
What are folks so afraid of?
Would it be such a fucking blow to your life if she was only projecting her own self-identification as "different" onto her social encounters with other people?
Sooooo ... Donta Allen, the guy who said that he was in the other section of the van from Freddie Gray and concluded Gray was trying to hurt himself? He never said that. The police wrote in their report, but he never said it.
ReplyDeleteAll he said was that Gray was making a bit of noise (which he might have been inclined to do, if he was in agony after the police had snapped his neck).
Also, Allen claims that there was nothing unusual about the ride to the police station. No sudden stops that could have caused Gray to sustain a major neck injury.
"FN is, and will continue to be an open-minded respectful blog"
ReplyDeleteDo what now?
I'm having a belly laugh, but I digress.
Apparently you haven't seen the half dozen trolls who stalk me, or full-time members here who curse my family with racial slurs and are literally applauded for it.
You must read different posts here than I do.
"You need to calm down and try to own up to your faults instead of whining about it."
I keep asking people what these faults are. They keep saying, "you're racist." I keep saying, "Well, show some evidence." And they keep saying, "No. I won't waste my time. But you're still racist."
I take it for what it's worth...
I have plenty of faults. And I'll own them as I spot them. But all I'm doing in this discussion is asking a very simple fucking question: Is this spoiled chick seriously a victim of discrimination, or is she merely projecting?
For that, I've been called a racist animal on this open-minded, respectful blog...
Quote Josh-the-Racist
ReplyDelete"Apparently you haven't seen the half dozen trolls who stalk me..."
Josh's pomposity and self-importance knows no bounds.
He comes here every single day to tell us how much he hates us, then accuses us of stalking him when we tell him to fuck off!
"Josh's pomposity and self-importance knows no bounds."
ReplyDeleteHe says while continuing to stalk me...
This brought tears to muh eyes-
ReplyDelete"A few years later: Go on a road trip with your mom. Refuse to get out of the car at a gas station in the boondocks, because you are sure the person with the Confederate flag bumper sticker is going to realize your white mother married a black man and hurt her (and you too, being the byproduct of said union). He’s carrying a rifle on a gun rack. Now even more terrifying.'"
And this is rich-
PilotX:Freeing slaves from the Republican plantation since the 70's said...
Man, what a heartfelt letter. Sick that in this modern time a kid has to be scared of some moron with a confederate flag and gun rack
Except most interracial murders, rapes, assaults, theft, etc. etc is black on white. Not white on black.
So that moron with the confederate flag and gun rack is more likely to be hurt by her black daddy than he is to hurt her or her moms.
Just more racial paranoia from the left.
"At your workplace: For two years in a row the NYPD shows up randomly at the school you work at, which has a 100 percent minority student body. The first time the police don’t even tell the school beforehand"
ReplyDeleteComplete and utter bullshit. The NYPD coordinates closely with school districts and notifies school officials before hand.
Of course what this poor, poor, racial victim won't write about in her sad, sad, letter is the school she works at has high rates of violence and students carrying weapon and selling drugs.
When blacks play victim, facts are inconvenient truths.
"Today, tomorrow, every day: White people around you refuse to talk about what is happening in this country. The silence is painful to experience."
That's because if a white person disagrees with blacks about what is 'happening' in Obama's America, whites are called racist and are attacked by the racial grievance industry. See Josh and yours truly.
Besides, i thought blacks were tired of trying to educate whites about race.

These cries are often heard in liberal utopias like Baltimore.
So what?
Blacks will riot, destroy non-black owned businesses and cry about white privilege, white oppression and how they just don't be understanding.
But the one thing blacks won't do? Vote for anyone other than the people who are most responsible for their plight in life.
DEMOCRATS.
Democrats have controlled the city for over 50 years.
Baltimore has a black mayor, majority black city council, and half the police force is non-white.
It's like blacks hit themselves in the head with a hammer and wonder why they have a headache.
So when are blacks going to hold Democrats accountable?
When is field negro going to hold Democrats accountable?
NEVER.
That is what white people understand.....

Pure fantasy.
Blacks move effortlessly through the white world, unmolested, treated almost universally with decency and respect.
On the other hand, whites who stray into black areas are very likely to be physically accosted, and almost certainly to be received hostilely.
These kind of stories are liberal oppression porn, spun to justify their attack on decent white society and to keep blacks firmly on their plantation.

Taking showers daily.

Also referred to as "civilized behavior". Most other races abide by these truths around the world. Blacks think this is 'white' behavior. It isn't. The rejection of the so called 'white culture' by blacks in the US is the single largest factor why they are passed on the social ladder by every immigrant group that comes to the US.
DeleteSad but true. When blacks realize that those conditions aren't 'acting white' they will be able to progress in the USA. Until then they will lead the way in failure.
This is the same mindset that hillbilly ' s and rednecks have. They believe that all those conditions are being 'uppity' and thinking 'that you are better than everyone else'.
Recipe for failure.

And another thing; when I was living in that huge, multi-racial city, in quite a crime-ridden area, a black woman threw a brick through my window.
ReplyDeleteAlso, a black man spat in my face in the street, and once I walked into my kitchen to find a black man trying to climb through the little window.

ReplyDeleteNone of them have been convicted yet, though, and who knows if they will be?
Based on the charges she handed down, it sounds like she's going with the theory of the crime that Gray was injured when the officers gave him a so-called "rough ride" in their van. But unless the officers roll on each other, will this even be provable as an intentional act?
I expect the cops' defense will be that they simply forgot to put on his seat belt and the driver had to brake hard for someone running a red light. Oops. Total accident. Minimal punishment.
How can a jury know whether it was intentional or not? It seems to me that this could be a problem.
"Some white people will listen..."
ReplyDeleteHoly shit. If folks want to break my balls, it is what it is. I have no say over how others carry themselves here; you can troll me with one-line responses, which only insist I'm a racist, and then lie to yourself and say that you're "debating" me. It's your world, I'm just living in it.
But can you not see that you're proving the point I was making with this "some white people will listen" nonsense?
My entire point: It's set up to be a one-way street. The storyteller, a POC, puts it all on white people and says that it's everyone else on the fucking planet that needs to listen. Never, ever, in a million years, that it's they themselves needing to reflect internally, listen, or, Pete forbid, ever change.
If you wanna break my balls, ah salute. But maybe try to stop proving my point in the process...
@Josh: You're damn right it's set up to be a one-way street.
ReplyDeleteRead your history, and then realize that history affects what is happening right now. History is 150 years ago, history is 40 years ago, history is yesterday, history is one hour ago.
Open your eyes, you idiot. Do you think black people WANT to live in a racist society so that they have something to moan about?
How can some argue her experience? She has perspective from both sides. It's not made up. My oldest biracial son feels the same way. I remember taking him to visit a college in Vermont and we got lost in a town with almost no street signs. Both of us didn't feel he was safe. We didn't say anything for weeks about it. I drove him to his NC college about six months ago and we stopped at a gas station about 10 pm to use the facilities. Some very loud county folks were hanging out there and all I could think about was their reaction to my son getting out of the car and how my son felt.
ReplyDeleteI experience racist comments from family, clients, etc. often. They always seem to be shocked when I'm offended. This morning it was my Vietnamese floor installer that made a comment. He thought it was "safe" to make racist remarks. I asked where he learned black folks were lazy he shut up.
This afternoon it was at the park. I took my seven year old to a park in OUR neighborhood. An older woman came out and asked if we lived there. ONLY15 years!! She wasn't expecting that. Then she asked that my kid not play on the expensive plants. And he wasn't. It never ends. This kind of thing wears you down. This isn't made up. It's not anxiety. It's happening.
Anonymous Virginia said...
ReplyDeleteHow can some argue her experience? She has perspective from both sides.
>>>>
Here's my problem with this young woman's "story" and I say this as a multiracial woman that "identifies" as ONLY Black.
She's like so many multi/bi racial people I've met that seem to think they're "special", as if their Caucasian ancestry will "protect" them from the racism other Black people experience ALL the time. Then they're shocked to learned that no matter how "good" their hair is or light their skin is or how highly educated and "boogie" they may be, it's just not enough for them to be accepted by White folks.
Ironically, I don't seem this same type of "racism surprise" in multi/bi racial people raised by Black women or women who identify as Black, as I was. And I'm certain that's at the heart of the issue of why many of these folks are socially maladjusted when it comes to issues of race.
Speaking of light skinned Negroes, how in the HELL was Jayne Mansfied able to "pass" for White her ENTIRE life?
ReplyDelete"Open your eyes, you idiot. Do you think black people WANT to live in a racist society so that they have something to moan about?"
ReplyDeleteAll I know is that too many people here seem as if they'd rather infer what someone is saying rather than read what they're actually saying.
You're missing my point. It has fuck-all to do with anything about the "want." A few comments above me, I think my point is illustrated well. The commenter "feels" like certain people may act a certain way to X or Y. They "feel" like society is against them.
I'm posing a very simple fucking question. I'm not making any assertions. I'm not saying whether or not someone "wants" or doesn't "want" anything.
Again, is it more likely that:
1) Every white person you meet in the fucking world is racist against you?
2) You may be projecting a bit on other people by holding yourself up as and viewing yourself as "different"?
We're not talking about the deepest recesses of the human psyche here or anything. Every single person on this blog has projected before, and probably projects often. Projection is incredibly common amongst human beings.
When Joe feels like he's different, like he's unwanted, etc, Joe may project onto other people that they're treating him negatively. When, in reality, it's because of the way Joe views himself, not that people are treating him like an asshole.
This doesn't even have to do with race necessarily. You can insert all types of shit into it. The one woman in an all-male company. The goth kid in school with black clothes and nail polish. The shortest guy in the group. The fattest girl in the group. Etc...
Often is the case that our own insecurities are projected onto other people. And it's awfully ironic if ever you care to view it independent your emotion.
Take the author of the piece as an example. She is quite literally making the case that she's very different than other people. She embraces it. She loves it. She identifies as being that different. She painstakingly lays out a case that she is "different" and views herself willingly as "different." Yet, when she feels that other people are actually treating her like she is different, she's crying foul!
She's now looking to put it on white society that white people need to reflect internally and change via how they treat others. Yet she doesn't hold herself up to those same soul-searching standards. She doesn't seem to call her view of herself into question.
Look, for the third time now, I'm not pooh-poohing her experiences. Maybe she is in a social circle of racist white people who treat her poorly because she's mixed. That may very well be the case!
But it may also be the case that she--and many people in her situation--view themselves as so different than everyone else that they end up projecting their own self-image onto society at large.
Why is this such a threatening concept to people? Why do so many people on this blog get angry at the mere question? Why do people refuse to judge my comment by the comment but instead want to infer shit that wasn't implied?
What's so scary here?
Welcome to the blog Emma.
ReplyDeleteJayne Mansfield was blah?????????????Whaaaaaaaaaaaaa? That's a jaw dropper Doc.
PX
Or, if you're familiar with Tumblr, let's put it another way.
ReplyDeleteIf Janey spends her time making the case that she's a special snowflake: Otherkin, zey chosen pronouns, a polysexual bean sprout with Tywin Lannister as a headmate, etc. Okay, that's how she views herself. Janey lives her life by insisting she's "different" and that she's special.
So, when suddenly she starts feeling that other people are treating her differently, what's the cause?
Is every person in her social life a grade-A asshole?
Or has she caught herself up in being different and special and now doesn't even know what "normal" social interaction is?
A little homage to my main man Field, who used Kat Williams. Let me borrow from Kat Williams.
When you're a woman who says every man you've been with ain't shit, maybe it's you who ain't shit. Maybe you got some ain't shit pussy. Maybe you're an ain't shit bitch.
Why does everyone else need to believe that it's every fucking guy she's ever met that ain't shit, when it's infinitely more likely like she's the one who ain't shit?
For people who willingly hold themselves up as and live their lives as if they're different and special, there's no person out there that could treat them normally and equally. They don't view themselves as normal or equal to begin with.
Yet it's everyone else's fault in the entire fucking world, and the rest of us need to change how we act.
How fucking convenient...
"Look, for the third time now, I'm not pooh-poohing her experiences. Maybe she is in a social circle of racist white people who treat her poorly because she's mixed. That may very well be the case! "

He told me of some of the racist comments our fellow pilots make (shocking huh) and he let's them finish and then chimes in "uh, you know I'm blah right"? I would pay to see the looks on their faces when they realize that their entire career could be ruined because of their racist attitude. Of course they can't say these things in front of me but oh to be a fly on the wall.

I don't need to make up Jayne Mansfield's Black nose, African almond shaped eyes, or mouth. Her flat a$$ saved her from being thought of as a real sista'. Mama's baby, papa's maybe. Hell yeah in this case! Or maybe BOTH of her parents were like those Jefferson bastard kids, passing as White until they "blended" the Black out of the gene pool. But Black ancestry is a funny thing, 3 or 4 generations of White folks trying to blend the Black out, and here comes some kinky-ish hair or big lips.
And I don't give a f**k WHO you think you know, you probably don't know that there were SIX former presidents with Black ancestors because the stupidity of your racism won't allow you to accept that deep down, the majority of White in America that can trace their ancestry back to the 1800's, are n***ers too.

White people have NEVER EVER been this beautiful. EVER. And NEVER will be, it's a well established AND documented fact that people with African ancestry are the most beautiful on the planet.
How many Europeans have won the Miss Universe pageant? Most of the winners have been from South America and their beauty comes from being African AND mixed with the indigenous people there.
BTW, it's no surprise that White folks in America can't distinguish between a Black person that looks White and a White person, per PX's example.
ReplyDeleteBut I bet a European with ancestors in Europe can spot you wanna be pure Whites in America, in a New York minute.
"Or maybe it's not her social circle, and it's racist everywhere - her childhood, a few years later, as a teenager, in college, at the workplace, etc."
ReplyDeleteHey, like I've said, I've only been asking a question. Nothing more, nothing less.
So, if you believe it's more likely that every white person she encounters just happens to be a racist, then so be it.
I understand this isn't an outlandish belief; many people, some of whom frequent this blog, typecast all white people as bigots just for being white. Hypocrisy and irony aside, it's a stance taken by many in America. So, if you think what's more likely is that every white person is just a racist, rather than she's just projecting her own self-image as "different" onto others, then it is what it is.
At least you addressed the issue without feigning anger and acting indignant.
Thanks!
