I figured I would ride a few miles on some bike trails not too far from my home, and actually ride to the trails instead of drive.
Riding gear? Check. Cell phone and earphones? Check. Water? Check. Half way down my street I had a terrifying thought: What if I was stopped by the police for whatever? (Sir, this won't take long. We have reports of some suspicious activity in the neighborhood.) I left my wallet because I wasn't driving and I didn't think I needed my driver's license. My emergency numbers were all on the watch I was wearing and on my cell phone, so I really didn't think that I needed it. Until now.
I turned my black ass around; went back to my house; and grabbed my wallet. Inconveniencing to be sure, but these are the little acts that might literally save my life.
I don't think that it was always this way. A couple of years ago I wouldn't have even given it a second thought. Not anymore. There are too many stories like the one out in California today going around out here.
Some poor sixteen year old caught a serious beat down from the cops out in Cali for jaywalking. Yes, you heard that right; jaywalking. I mean I know that they enforce jaywalking laws out in Cali, but I am not sure that it's worth beating some poor kid like he is an armed felon over.
Once again, thank you Mr. cell phone inventor. Lord knows what happened before citizens started arming themselves with cell phones.
"What happened to you? The Mrs. wanted to know. I thought you were going riding." She was smirking. "I left my wallet", I told her. "Since when do you need your wallet to go bike riding?" I didn't bother to respond. I just let that kind of hang out there. I will carry this burden alone. She should just be glad that her husband had a greater chance of coming home safe and sound.
Finally, I watched the
I kept looking at the big plane in the background, and I kept thinking to myself that it has to be a metaphor for something. Malaysia Flight 370 is missing with over 200 poor souls. But these eleven are still here.
Anyway, the general consensus is that Carly Fiorina was the clear cut winner. Her line about Planned Parenthood had conservatives weak at the knees with glee, and most pundits say that it was the show stealing line of the night. But there is one little problem: It was a lie. The tape she described does not exist.
She wasn't the only one lying. Jeb Bush said that his brother kept us all safe while he was president to loud applause from the audience. Everyone forgetting, of course, what happened on another beautiful September day 14 years ago. (Those planes in the background again.)
OK, maybe it was better than Sharknado. I watched the entire thing, and I can honestly say that the plot and the special effects were better.

Lawd, Field you like to live dangerously!
ReplyDeleteFirst of all bike riding in any city is just plain dangerous!
Secondly if you're black, and got no papers? Downright suicidal!
I'm sure glad you went back and got 'em!
And last but not least, walking away from the wife without answering??? LOL! Laaawd have mercy you cray cray!!!
*walks away shaking head in disbelief*
(Funny post though! :)
As for the debate, Trump won and current vaccine schedules DO cause autism among other things! x*D
Brother Field, I like the first half title of your post: "Living on the Edge,.." because that is 'exactly how bm in America are living.
ReplyDeleteI have said before and I'll continue to say it: It is "depressing to be a bm in America." Mr brotha, it is "vital" and "life saving" for a bm to have some ID on his person at all times anywhere he goes.
And even with identification, it still might not save your black ass. Brother, I have had it with this law enforcement crap in America.
I now know 'why' I am so depressed. It's because of a corrupt law enforcement that works against bm and I am unable to practice my faith without being harassed and people trying to force me out of my religion to satisfy some political group.
As this country continues to spiral down into hell, my depression deepens; it grows dark, like a cosmic black hole.
And the second part of your post didn't make me feel any better when you said,
"Finally, I watched the republican Trump debate last night and it was like watching a disaster movie with bad actors. Let's call it political Sharknado."
Now that is sooo damn depressing.
depressed negro
btw, I am going to see "Black Mass" tomorrow staring Johnny Depp. I am hoping it will lift my depression.
ReplyDeleteWhen Bush said his brother kept America safe and no one challenged him I was done watching that clown show. Funny how the rest never mentioned 9/11, Katrina, or the economic meltdown.
ReplyDeleteI NEVER go out without ID. The last two times I landed in Oakland City Jail were both because I had no ID on me. I have since gotten better at taking care of traffic citations before they go to warrant, but I have also since then had a stroke and become disabled, and have little to no trust in OPD to actually care about that in the way I am treated. So I guess what I'm saying is that your advice is good for white boys like me also, while acknowledging that it is much more critical for people of color (especially males).
ReplyDeletePart of me was sort of hoping that someone would fire up old air force one in the middle of the debate and maybe suck a few of the slime weasels into the engines, while another part of me was worried that the chunks that got blown all over the walls would all crawl away and grow new Republicans...

Planned Parenthood has been totally busted selling fetal body parts illegally, as confirmed by several videotaped conversations.
ReplyDeleteYou may not want to be believe it Field, but it's true.
@FIELD: "Everyone forgetting, of course, what happened on another beautiful September day 14 years ago. (Those planes in the background again.)"
ReplyDeleteNo, these Republican liars didn't forget, they're hoping that we've forgotten. They must take their cue from Fox News who's extremely adept at white-washing history, and blaming the black guy in the White House for Republican failings, even for things that occurred before he took the helm of the Ship of State.
"Planned Parenthood has been totally busted selling fetal body parts illegally, as confirmed by several videotaped conversations."
ReplyDeleteNo, they haven't. They have gotten caught on tape discussing their donation of fetal body parts for research, which these Christian fanatic bottom-feeders have deceptively edited and falsely described as selling body parts for profit.
There is nothing illicit about donating fetal body parts and Planned Parenthood have never denied doing it. This manufactured narrative that they are convincing women to have abortions in order to obtain body parts for sale is paranoid bullshit.
If conservative ideals are so great, why do conservatives always have to lie their asses off to convince people to support them?
By all means take your wallet, Field, and exercise good common sense with the boys in blue, but don't let your "racism chase" make you too paranoid. It's still not all that likely, even as a black man, that you'll get killed by a cop.
ReplyDeleteThere are something like 100 unarmed black men killed each year by cops ... out of the roughly 18 million black men in America. If we use unarmed civilian deaths as a crude proxy for unjustified deaths, that's on the order of a one in 100,000 chance of unjustified death by cop. For perspective, your annual chances of dying in a car wreck are at least five times greater.
Most cops are responsible professionals, not maniacs with badges, and it's worth reminding yourself of that fact if you're choosing to immerse yourself in stories about the bad ones.
"It's still not all that likely, even as a black man, that you'll get killed by a cop."
ReplyDeleteTell that to the unarmed black men who were killed by cops. Oops, too late!
Most cops are responsible professionals, not maniacs with badges, and it's worth reminding yourself of that fact if you're choosing to immerse yourself in stories about the bad ones.
ReplyDelete3:38 AM
-----------------
Not true. Most cops are maniacs with guns and batons. Blake can attest to that. Walter Scott can attest to that. Michael Brown can attest to that. There are literally thousands, if not millions over the decades or even centuries that can attest to corrupt bad cops.
What is amazing is people like yourself still claim cops are trustworthy 'safe' law enforcers.
"What is amazing is people like yourself still claim cops are trustworthy 'safe' law enforcers."
ReplyDeleteWhat is amazing is people like yourself don't care much about facts. The existence of bad cops doesn't make most cops bad.
And cops certainly aren't the only ones with prejudices. You might want to examine your own.
As always, how can one tell the difference between a Trump rally and a Klan rally? Apparently, the only difference is the uniforms worn by the attendees:
ReplyDelete"'We have a problem in this country. It's called Muslims,' an unidentified man who spoke at a question-and-answer town hall event in Rochester, New Hampshire, asked the mogul. 'You know our current president is one. You know he's not even an American.'
A seemingly bewildered Trump interrupted the man, chuckling, 'We need this question. This is the first question.'
'Anyway, we have training camps growing where they want to kill us,' the man, wearing a 'Trump' T-shirt, continued. 'That's my question: When can we get rid of them?'
'We're going to be looking at a lot of different things,' Trump replied. 'You know, a lot of people are saying that and a lot of people are saying that bad things are happening. We're going to be looking at that and many other things.'
The real estate mogul did not correct the questioner about his claims about Obama before moving on to another audience member."
Not a lot of detail here, so I guess we'll all have to wait and see how Trump plans to "get rid of them."
bad cops goes hand in hand with a black populace that is 'bad". What if for once the black person who is asked a question by a cop responds without the attitude. I think blacks need to lose the attitude and that huge chip on the shoulder. The most shiftless and lazy group of people in the US.
ReplyDeleteThat's always a racist white reply: "Bad cops happen because of Blacks." Yeah, that's the ticket. As soon as those niggers learn to behave, then cops will no longer be bad cops.
ReplyDeleteAgain, tell that to Blake and other bm brutalized and killed.
NINE BAD COPS abused and terrorized a black teenage boy. Ever wonder where the good cops are? The facts and stats say there are very few.
ReplyDeleteThese facts and stats dove tail with the life experiences of Blacks and Latinos.
Cops are corrupt bigoted terrorists sworn to abuse minorities but sworn to uphold the law for Whites.
That's a 'fact'.
For the past three years, I have been living in Houston, TX. I wish I had a dollar for every time someone of Hispanic descent has approached me, chattering away in Spanish, assuming I too am Hispanic and of course fluent in the language. (Once I was in an airport and a gentleman approached me, asking for directions. All I could say was "No habla." That said, I really have to invest in some Spanish lessons.)
ReplyDeleteIn any case, given the vitriol people in Texas hold for Hispanics, blacks, Muslims and anyone else who doesn't look like them, I take my driver's license with me when I go walking. I joke with my Michael that I do it in case I am approached by police and have it to prevent my being shipped off to Mexico City or somewhere. But given how crazy people are today, you can't be too careful.
Interesting people think Texans are so bad, the nicest people I've ever met are from Texas. And I've spent time iat some point in my life, in almost ALL of the other southern states and I STILL feel this way.
ReplyDeleteBut the Black folks in Texas?? Some of the most COUNTRY I've ever met, are they not familiar with the southern charm of Blacks in the ATL??
BTW the consequences for ANY Black person walking around without ID is no different than it was during slavery, your Black a$$ may be killed or enslaved er, put in jail!! I especially don't forget during my Saturday morning tennis practices, even with Venus and Serena around on the scene, some folks get over the sight of a Black family with tennis gear and rackets. And obviously, Blake doesn't count.
Some folks can't get over.....
ReplyDeleteSome of the other key pants-on-fire moments from the debate:
ReplyDelete*Marco Rubio's lie that North Korea can hit us with a nuclear weapon. North Korea has no intercontinental missiles.
*Trump's claims that nobody else has birthright citizenship but the United States, like this is some strange, unique policy. In fact, pretty much all the countries in the western hemisphere have birthright citizenship.
*Carly Fiorina's scary "facts" about marijuana being more dangerous than alcohol. Sorry, Carly, reliable medical data says the opposite.
*Assertions by basically everybody that the federal government funds abortion. Nu-uh. The truth is that federal abortion funding doesn't exist, except for in the narrow cases of rape and when the pregnancy threatens the woman's health.
*Trump's false statement that vaccines cause autism was followed up by Rand Paul's lie that smallpox was wiped out through "voluntary" vaccinations. (Nobody hates government mandates more than wackadoo Rand Paul.) But no, that's historically wrong, too. The anti-smallpox program was completely mandatory. Sometimes, Big Gummint does need to force people to act like responsible citizens, and not assholes. Paul's utopian individualism doesn't work.
Republican politicians obviously operate on the general premise that keeping their voters dumb is a sensible way to run their party. What a country we live in.
"Interesting people think Texans are so bad, the nicest people I've ever met are from Texas. And I've spent time iat some point in my life, in almost ALL of the other southern states and I STILL feel this way."
ReplyDeleteI've lived in Texas too, and being nice unfortunately doesn't preclude being bigoted and/or ignorant. I think it's more a complaint about the culture of Texas and the former Confederacy, not simply that they are individually not nice people (although, I have to say that the whole sunny, Southern hospitality thing can sometimes come off as insincere to Northerners).
I've met plenty of otherwise kind-hearted people say some pretty cruel things about categories of people that they've been incorrectly led to believe are "bad."
"I didn't bother to respond. I just let that kind of hang out there. I will carry this burden alone."
ReplyDeleteOh fuck that made me cry.
You are not alone Brother Field.
Here is a very famous doctor whom up to now using his vaccination schedule babies have not become autistic. And might I add that I have seen a MYRIAD of cases of horrible vaccine reactions in babies. Also my grandma almost died with that smallpox vaccine!!!

ReplyDelete"Here is a very famous doctor whom up to now using his vaccination schedule babies have not become autistic. And might I add that I have seen a MYRIAD of cases of horrible vaccine reactions in babies. Also my grandma almost died with that smallpox vaccine!!!"
ReplyDeleteVaccines do have some risks. That much is true.
But autism is not one of them, regardless of the schedule on which the shots are delivered. Do them together, space them out, it does not make any difference. Literally dozens of statistical studies at this point have confirmed beyond any shadow of a doubt that there is ZERO correlation between vaccines and autism.
The entire association was only ever based on one scientific study, the methodology of which has long since been exposed as fraudulent. The author of that study, Andrew Wakefield, has had his medical license revoked.
At this point, no one knows the cause of autism.
Trump called it.
He predicted CNN would have record ratings and suggested CNN donate it's obscene record profits to veterans groups.
23 million watched GOP debate, a record for CNN
...making it the most-watched program in CNN's history

Trump is already making left-wingnuts record profits.
No surprise that the liberal media is pushing trump. They can profit off him.

I grew up in Yankee land and had the typical biases towards southerners, Texans in particular. But actually spending a lot of time there disabused me of my misconceptions. I was really struck by how friendly everyone is in Texas, even in big cities like Dallas or Houston. I have been around the world, and I agree that Texans are some the nicest people you'll ever meet.

You don't know what you're talking about. So please do not opine!
That's just the same old, useless propaganda that the big pharma's pump out for their profit.
There are many more people, health professionals in all walks of medicine who know differently, the truth.
People who do not get vaccinated as babies are the ones living to be in their 100's, are the ones that have not developed cancer of any kind, diabetes, MS, AlS, arthritis, and on and on and on.
Why? Because their immune systems have not been tampered with. So go do some real research yourself, instead of repeating propaganda. You don't know anything.

Hey field, when are the Democrat debates going to start?
How do dumbocrats debate against someone that has written a book?
Wolf Blitzer - She said if you want to stump a Democrat, she said, ask them about Hillary Clinton's accomplishments as secretary of State.
If you were on that debate stage with her, what would you say was your number one accomplishment as secretary of State?
CLINTON: You know, Wolf, I didn't get to see all of their debate, but I saw enough of it to know that this is just the usual back and forth political attacks, the kinds of things you say when you're on a debate stage and you really don't have much else to say.
I didn't hear anything from any of them about how they're going to make college more affordable or get down student debt, or get equal pay for equal work for women, what they're going to do to make sure that we deal with the challenges of raising incomes for hardworking people.
So I don't really pay a lot of attention to this kind of rhetoric that heats up the debate stage. They're all trying to vie for more attention from, obviously, the Republican Party. I'm going to let them decide how best to do it.
But if anybody is interested, you know, there's a long list about what I have done and I'm very proud of it. You can read my book, "Hard Choices," read about how I negotiated a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.
http://cnnpressroom.blogs.cnn.com/2015/09/17/hillaryclinton-appears-on-cnnsitroom-with-wolfblitzer-in-1st-live-interview-from-campaign-trail-video/
After attacking her opponents, the secretary of state accomplishment hillary bragged about was writing a book?
Better keep blocking those debates.

ReplyDeleteIt's not the tobacco, it's the chemical additives that they adulterate it with.
and most of them drank their own moonshine type liquor.
The body can fight of most anything except chromosome changing agents, but even then it fights.
Except when the immune system is altered and subsequently diminished by synthetic vaccines with other DNA and genetic material which fools the body into not producing anymore of it's own. This it is rendered susceptible. Believe me when I tell you.
The scheduling of vaccines at a later age and in less dosage enable the body to develop more fully it's own defenses. And that is key to health.
There is also a proven age schedule in which the development of autism is avoided, bypassed.

This logic only applies to wingnuts that hate corporations.
General Motors will pay $900 million to settle criminal charges related to its flawed ignition switch that has been tied to at least 124 deaths.

GM had already admitted that its employees were aware of the problem nearly a decade before it started to recall millions of the cars early last year.

"People were hurt and people died in our cars,"

The settlement was disclosed Thursday by the Justice Department. No individual GM executives were charged in the case

Gotta love it.
The dumbocrat led DOJ believes the GM corporation, without any human assistance lied about the switch.
GM Corporation = $900 million
GM executives = $0
