They are claiming that he was "murdered" with his hands up. (Sounds familiar?) Now Mr. Finicum is being viewed as a martyr in some circles. Which, if you think about it, is probably what he wanted in the first place.
Finally, this debate between trump and FOX VEWS leaves me in somewhat of a quandary. I honestly do not know whose side to take. It's kind of like choosing between HIV/AIDS and Ebola. None of the choices are particularly good.
All I can say is that they deserve each other (Trump was on FOX tonight), and this all smells like a big publicity stunt for both network and charlatan.
Are we really supposed to believe that trump hates Megyn Kelley? I don't think so. He really didn't seem like it here. But this is the game they are both playing on the American people to stay in the news and keep us all talking about both the network and the candidate. Don't be surprised if trump has a huge announcement tomorrow to announce that he will be debating after all.

To begin with, some of the militia loons themselves have already stated publicly and unequivocally that Finicum decided to go out in a blaze of anti-government glory by attacking the police, rather than be arrested. So this business about his attempt to surrender is probably just one more fabrication driven by blind Obama hatred.
But aside from that, it's pretty funny that some of the same right-wing media figures that have responded to Black Lives Matter by saying that ALL shootings of black people by the cops have only one cause and can be eliminated by one simple method: Black people should "stop resisting."
And yet these militia goons have been "resisting" for more than three weeks straight. Surely, by wingnut media logic, this means the entire lot of them deserve to be dead at the hands of police many times over, no?

Obviously the federal government has the right to declare certain areas federal land. If you disagree you petition the courts and get it resolved you don't bring guns and try to occupy said land.

Finicume was armed while committing multiple felonies and on public record as claiming that he wouldn't be taken alive. He blew past a law enforcement roadblock at which his coconspirators were stopped and at which they surrendered, using his vehicle as a weapon against law enforcement. He exited his vehicle armed when it became stuck and rushed the law enforcement officers demanding his surrender. He and his coconspirators were treated with Kidd gloves for 3 weeks. None of those who surrendered were harmed, only the one who refused to disarm and surrender and instead attacked law enforcement. He is no martyr, no hero, no patriot. He was a criminal, a terrorist, a traitor, and a fool. I pity his family their fate, but he is the author of their sorrows.

ReplyDeleteUndoubtedly there will be some level of inquiry into anyone killed in Oregon by the feds. There is automatically an inquiry any time cops kill someone.
But let's just say it's extremely unlikely any such inquiry will lead to charges. I can't think of a situation in which the cops would have a better claim to self-defense than after having shot a dude who had previously gone on the record saying he'd kill the cops if they tried to arrest him. (Especially when the arrest was for federal lawbreaking that Finicum proudly admitted to.)
From the cops' point of view, that's a gimme. Any grand jury in the land would easily understand exactly what happened here and would give the cops a walk.
Sorry, but I see no double standard here.

Both men made poor choices that led to their deaths, but only one was purposely executed.
Robert Finicum made not one but two aggressive moves as if grabbing for a weapon which is clear in the video released by the FBI. On the otherhand you are speculating about Mike Brown as there is no video. Why do conservatives lie so much? Did you not see the video or are you just lying?
