Open thread Thursday.

MORE DISCLAIMERSIt's open thread Thursday field hands, and I am interested to hear your thoughts about a few political related subjects.

Why is Donald trump still refusing to acknowledge that the president was born in the United States?

Does trump Jr. believe that Nazi references are cool?

Does trump himself believe that it's funny to make fun of children whose health have been damaged because of poisoned water?

Is there anything that Hillary will open up and be more transparent about?

  1. Hillary has been attacked for years about things that are fair and some that are not for over 30 years so she has a right to be guarded about things. I'm still reeling about her choice for VP, now I think about her age and four years from now she just made Kaine politically viable and he isn't the most progressive person out there. Gavin Newsome, Corey Booker, Deval Patrick or even Elizabeth Warren would have been far better choices because these will be future leaders and possible presidential candidates and also would have pleased the left flank and younger Democrats. Also Jaoquin Castro, almost forgot about him. IMHO her VP pick is her biggest mistake especially now people see her health as a vulnerability.

  3. When he was SF mayor, we used to call him Gavin Reptile. While he wasn't afraid to get out in front of a controversial issue, there was never any question about whether doing so furthered his political ambitions. Which is OK, I guess, but he plans to be governor of California next, and A) I don't know whether he would be any good at it, and B) I don't know if he can actually win. We're kinda screwy here about electing governors.
I actually sort of like Tim Kaine as a VP, but as an actual VP, not as a stepping stone for the presidency.

I don't live in Cali so this is a complete outsider's view from 30,000' but it looks like from here Gavin could win. Maybe Cali is not all about image but if they are like every other locale his looks and his wife's looks would get him to the 50% mark. Hmmmm
On Kaine, he's basically a blue dog Dem and the only thing they're good for is winning conservative states to keep a majority.

After 8 years of big dick Barack, it would be sad and pathetic to have tiny dick Trump occupying the White House.

I don't think that's really true, Pilot. If you look at most of his positions, he's pretty solidly liberal. Not at the farthest left of the party, but he's far from a Blue Dog. He's not like the Rahm Emanuel or Mark Warner, who are virtually Republicans on economic issues. Kaine supports higher taxation on the rich, a higher minimum wage, robust financial regulation. He's pretty decent on environmental issues. While he's a gun owner, he also demands sensible controls on them and has an F rating from the NRA (who basically want NO controls).

About the only areas where he departs significantly from liberal orthodoxy is that he's signed onto the TPP trade agreement, and while he's generally supportive of labor unions overall, he accepted Virginia's right-to-work law. Also, he's a bit weak on fighting for reproductive rights, as devout Catholic.

I agree with Doug that I don't really trust Gavin Newsome. His actions always smelled suspiciously like grandstanding, rather than any deeply held principles. Those politicians who resort to lots of attention-grabbing stunts to further their careers, they never seem to accomplish much of lasting value and their careers often end up flaming out in some sort of atrocious sex or corruption scandal.

I also don't much care for Corey Booker. I lost all respect for him back in 2012 after he scolded Obama for criticizing Mitt Romney's job-destroying career as a vulture capitalist, so that Booker could suck up to wealthy finance industry campaign donors. There's something seriously wrong with anyone who believes Obama is too mean to bankers. (Remind me again, how many of the ethics-challenged fraudsters that wrecked the global economy did Obama's DOJ jail? Oh yeah, NONE.)

When Trump made the black man show his papers I could never have imagined myself voting for Trump for anything. Then the Democrats nominated the most corrupt neo con war monger they could find and stole the nomination from a decent man who cares about the people. Polls showed that Sanders would have trounced Trump. But Trump could end up with way more anti Hillary votes than basket of deplorable votes. The fascist establishment has got to go. I plant to vote against all incumbents, regardless of party. I wonder if our establishment media is worse than North Korea's? I tried to watch a little MSNBC the other day, but I had to turn it off. It has gotten really bad under Comcast ownership. It isn't liberal bias. It is pro war bias. During the few minutes I watched I saw that the sponsor was Boeing. Do their sponsors think they are going to sell us planes and oil companies, or do they just want to control the content? Don't expect MSNBC to tell you that Hillary approved the sale of fighter jets from her donor, Boeing, to Saudi Arabia, the big Clinton Foundation donor that financed the 9/11 hijackers. They don't even tell you about Saudi Arabia intentionally bombing innocent civilians in Yemen. When Rand Paul complained about the weapons sales not going through Congress on CNN, Wolf Blitzer countered that we need the weapons manufacturing jobs for our economy. Our government and media are controlled by death merchants.

By this time, Trump probably does believe Obama was really born in the States, but he knows how to play to his dimwitted supporters. Trump supporters are most definitely stupid enough to still believe that Obama is a Kenyan-born Muslim. They really are a sad, pathetic bunch.

This video explains why the government's and media's explanation of 9/11 is scientifically impossible real well. It also includes some clips that suggest the media was pulled into the coverup loop after the fact. Perhaps the mistake of pulling Building 7 in broad daylight caused the need for that. But don't get me wrong. That doesn't absolve our fascist media of war crimes. They initiate plenty of pro war propaganda on their own.

Julian Assange theorized that Clinton had a deal with Tim Kaine. He recommended Debbie Wassermen Schulz to succeed him as chairman of the DNC. Schultz was Hillary's campaign manager at the time. Assange pointed out that it would have made more sense to pick Sanders or someone like him, to unite the party. Assange also pointed out that Hillary wouldn't even wait a week for the DNC leak scandal to die down some to give Schultz a new job.She did it as soon as corporate whore Schultz resigned in disgrace.

Maybe if Obama wasn't the most divisive President in the history of this (once) great country, more worthy leaders like Trump wouldn't have to talk so much shit about him and waste precious campaign time. Obama isn't worth spit. Not that he ever was.

'Does trump himself believe that it's funny to make fun of children whose health have been damaged because of poisoned water? "

That's an odd reading of the Trump statement. He basically said that the US used to build cars and now it can't make it's own tap water. The joke is that we've switched places with Mexico.

If he's making fun of children here, I'm not seeing it. But then, if you take the stance that everything Trump says is wrong and/or evil, I can see where you're coming from. Hopefully he doesn't just stand there and read the dictionary out loud, the entire English language would become the Devil's work.

First off, if the comments here are any indication, I better buy up tin and aluminum futures, 'cause there's going to be a run on hat foil.

Even though I am your average old white guy, the thing that absolutely astonishes me is the TV talking heads who consider birtherism as "smacking" of racism. Yeah, sure, like burning that cross on your lawn "smacks" of racism. If this ain't the clearest example of white denial, I don't know what is. Trumpty Dumpty is a Racist. Capital "R".

His statement that he "ended it" when demanding the O-man's papers is huge Racist dog-whistle that says, "See? I made him bow down to me! I got him to kow-tow to a White Man. I brought that black usurper in *our* White House to his knees!

Plus deplorable, irredeemable, racist, sexist, homophobic, bigoted, xenophobic and patriarchal scum.

Wouldn't it be great if they could be exiled to one portion of the country? All of those vile, hateful "people" could be banished to an area of the country based on their percentage of the population.

We would have a complete utopian society and all that we would have to do is sacrifice some land. We would not have anything to do with them ever. They could go their own way and we could go ours.

    Who could disagree?

Holy shit, that's a good idea. The difference in civic culture would be absolutely remarkable. It would be interesting to see what businesses lived and died depending on area. Sporting goods and hotrod stores would do well in one area, bullet-proof convenience stores and the prison biz would do well in the other. Horses for courses.
