In lieu of all of this, the following article from Hal Boedeker about team trump is quite appropriate.
"Maybe you’ve been losing a lot of sleep lately because of world events. A word of advice: Don’t watch cable news in the night.
I should have stuck with TCM early Saturday, but I turned to CNN and heard the latest about Michael Flynn, President Trump’s national security adviser. Turns out Flynn may have spoken with the Russian ambassador, Sergey Kislyak, about U.S. sanctions against Russia before the inauguration, CNN reported, and that’s contrary to what Flynn had told Vice President Mike Pence before the veep appeared on Sunday morning shows.
If the White House doesn’t want to look bad, it’s running three weeks behind in tackling that problem. The Trump White House is to public relations what Chernobyl was to nuclear plants.
The White House’s messaging suffers because the administration acts like it’s still in rancorous campaign mode. Guided by Trump, the tweeter-in-chief, the White House makes everything personal. It doesn’t matter if the topic is Elizabeth Warren, court setbacks, Ivanka Trump’s brand, Sean Spicer’s press briefings or the size of the inauguration crowd.
Kellyanne Conway, counselor to the president, has been a one-woman wrecking crew in damaging the administration’s credibility. She introduced the term “alternative facts,” invented a massacre and hawked Ivanka’s products.
But those are sideshows. The main culprit is the Donald himself, whose worst moment so far — you may point to others — was his jaw-dropping interview with Bill O’Reilly of Fox News Channel on Super Bowl Sunday.
O’Reilly described Russian President Vladimir Putin as “a killer.”
Trump replied, “There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers. You think our country's so innocent?”
Trump “indicted” America “in language unprecedented for any sitting or former president,” wrote Bret Stephens of The Wall Street Journal.
What does that say about a president who treats America’s image — its brand — so shabbily?
For starters, he’s reckless and unaware of the impression he’s making. Michael Scott (Steve Carell) had more finesse on “The Office.”
“Three weeks of Trump is like five years of Nixon,” Bill Maher said Friday on his HBO show “Real Time.” Maher dismissed Trump as “President Man-Baby.”
Trump may be a titan of business — we haven’t seen his tax returns, so who knows for sure? — but so far he’s a flop at public relations. Having a steady hand at P.R. is crucial in steering the country. By painting the media as the enemy, Trump distracts from his own erratic and undisciplined performance. That routine will grow old quickly.
Trump’s team often seems incapable of professionalism. But the team is taking cues from a leader who generates chaos instead of clarity, who mocks instead of inspires.
The White House looks bad, and one person deserves most of the blame. That’s the way leadership works.
I fear there are a lot of sleepless nights ahead." [Source]
The United States Tennis Association made the embarrassing error of playing the Nazi-era version of Germany's national anthem during a Fed Cup match in Hawaii, and it is Trump's fault?.
ReplyDeleteAre you fucking insane?

This statement got a lot of lefty Noam Chomsky types all excited: "See, Trump gets it! Now we shall have peace and harmony throughout the globe, with America leading the way with international diplomacy to solve problems, rather than violence. :-D :-D :-D"
Fools, all of them. Trump doesn't disapprove of violence. The first country that annoys him is going to get bombed into a smoking crater. And he will then laugh when those Chomsky types accuse him of crimes against humanity. Cross all your fingers and toes that the country that provokes him isn't China, because that will mean World War III.
And in any event, the statement wasn't meant by Trump as any kind of apology for historical American interventionism during the Cold War or in recent Middle Eastern adventures. It was just a deliberate distraction from the topic Bill O'Reilly was talking about -- not deaths in warfare, but the routine murders of its own citizens by the Russian government to silence criticism.
Whatever else you want to accuse the United States of, our presidents haven't generally been in the habit of sending goons to shoot opposition politicians or poison pesky adversarial journalists. But that's exactly how Putin runs things, because Russia is a sham democracy. Trump blathered on about war, not because he is anti-war, but because he wanted to drag the conversation away from the awkward subject of his buddy Vlad being a nasty dictator and the possibility that Trump might just want to emulate him.

ReplyDeleteNo, because it didn't happen. Soliciting suggestions from both sides for good questions to ask candidates during a debate or interview is nothing out of the ordinary. It certainly doesn't constitute "collusion." This is a dumb right-wing talking point.
What Blitzer's staff did is not the same as the unethical thing Donna Brazile did, which is feed questions TO a candidate in advance of a debate.
As for Donna Brazile, in case anyone feels like chiming in, no, her tossing those couple debate questions to Hillary did not "rig" the primary for her. That is a dumb left-wing talking point. Hillary crushed Bernie in the primary by 12.1 percent of the vote. That margin wasn't close, so Hillary having the benefit of knowing a couple out of the many debate questions wasn't about to change that.
If you think Trump is bad at PR then you don't get what he's doing.
ReplyDeleteHe's very good at bad PR. That's almost all he knows how to do, and he learned it from Roy Cohn.
A normal president, or a sane president, wouldn't want this sort of apparent chaos leaking from the West Wing, if it was happening there, because it would make them look like they didn't know what they were doing, and that would be bad for them and bad for the country. For Trump it serves as a distraction for the real things he's planning, and makes accomplishing them easier by making people who should know better not take him seriously.
Trump doesn't give a rat's ass about what's good for the country, or about competently running the executive branch of the government, or whether what he does kills or ruins the lives of millions of people.
All Trump cares about is being important, or as Roy Cohn would say, having clout. And part of that in his twisted mind is getting big, important things to happen with his name on them. Do you really think he wants to keep Mexicans out of the country? If so you're an idiot. Trump and his cronies make bank off of Mexicans in this country because they will do good work for almost no money, and when you mistreat them you can get them to shut up about it by threatening to deport them and their families. Trump has done this with immigrants his entire business career.
But a huge wall with his name on it that will be there long after he's dead, that's clout. That's history. And at 70 years old there's not much left for a billionaire to buy.
All of the reprehensible stuff he's about to do is for the same reason. All of those people who are smarter than him and told him not to do it will hate him for it and that's enough for him.
His incompetence isn't a bug in his eyes, it's a feature.

"All Trump cares about is being important, or as Roy Cohn would say, having clout. And part of that in his twisted mind is getting big, important things to happen with his name on them. Do you really think he wants to keep Mexicans out of the country?"
ReplyDeleteDoug, I think Trump will try to deport as many illegal immigrants as he can. He's preparing to boost ICE staff big-time to try and deliver on that.
I would say this mass-deportation push will be a pointless exercise that will only cause lots of cruelty and hardship to lots of people. There will be intense resistance from left-wingers thwarting those deportations, so gobs of money will be wasted getting each deportee out of the country. And ultimately, whatever Trump's done will end up being reversed at some point when a bunch more Latino immigrants will be let back into the country at the demand of various business sectors -- because their labor is needed.
The idea that there is this untapped well of unemployed native-born Americans who are willing and physically able to do these low-end jobs and will relocate to where those jobs are located ... it's a fantasy.
Long-term, absolutely nothing will change. This is a national spasm of spite and racism that will accomplish nothing beyond inflicting misery on brown people, and preventing blue-collar white people from grasping that elitist economic policy is the primary cause of their job instability and wage stagnation. The problem is a fundamentally unfair distribution of wealth, driven by a lack of labor unions and labor protections, good public education and healthcare, etc -- not "too many Mexicans."

No, blue-collar white people have grasped that the elitist economic policy of offshoring jobs and importing cheap third world labor to drive down onshore wages is the primary cause of their job instability and wage stagnation, which is why they elected Trump.
Trump's opposition to the elitist economic policy promoted by both parties (because they serve the elite) is why he got elected.

In touch? Egads! God forbid they discuss anything. Time to be outraged!
As far as "stench" goes, we should remember Obama actually did sell out to Iran and Russia (I'll have more flexibility after the election), Clinton sold missile technology to the Chinese for campaign donations, and then there is Ted Kennedy, who not only sent secret messages to the Soviets in the midst of the cold war, he also begged them to intervene in a U.S. presidential election in order to unseat President Ronald Reagan. That’s no exaggeration.
According to Soviet documents unearthed in the early 1990’s, Kennedy literally asked the Soviets, avowed enemies of the U.S., to intervene on behalf of the Democratic party in the 1984 elections:
Kennedy made Andropov a couple of specific offers.
First he offered to visit Moscow. “The main purpose of the meeting, according to the senator, would be to arm Soviet officials with explanations regarding problems of nuclear disarmament so they may be better prepared and more convincing during appearances in the USA.” Kennedy would help the Soviets deal with Reagan by telling them how to brush up their propaganda.
Then he offered to make it possible for Andropov to sit down for a few interviews on American television. “A direct appeal … to the American people will, without a doubt, attract a great deal of attention and interest in the country. … If the proposal is recognized as worthy, then Kennedy and his friends will bring about suitable steps to have representatives of the largest television companies in the USA contact Y.V. Andropov for an invitation to Moscow for the interviews. … The senator underlined the importance that this initiative should be seen as coming from the American side.”
Kennedy would make certain the networks gave Andropov air time–and that they rigged the arrangement to look like honest journalism.

The 1st amendment trumps any statute granting the executive any power if the executive uses that power to discriminate based on religion. ReplyDeleteAnd yes, he had the opportunity to do something about the Oroville Dam when the study came out that found there were problems, but like all Republicans, he would rather let the country fall apart than raise taxes to pay for it's upkeep. That's what they do every time: they win elections by cheating, spend their entire term in office doing as much damage to the country as they can manage, and then complain about how it's taking the Democrats too long to fix it after they get voted out.
To be fair, it wasn't all Arnie's fault, the budgeting process here was almost irreparably buggered by proposition 13, and the tax revolt of the seventies that turned our top of the nation school system into the same underfunded mess that they have in poorer states. Which is why silicon valley companies are enraged by Trump's travel ban; they need foreign born employees with better educations than what our schools have been turning out for a while.
Fortunately, Jerry Brown put a couple of taxes up for a vote, and they passed easily, so our budgets are more on an even keel, but forty years of neglect won't be fixed overnight.
I'm just thankful that I live in a state with a sane government now, that can look at Kansas and Louisiana and see that Republican austerity destroys state economies that should otherwise be healthy, and that trying it again here after we know it doesn't work is a bad idea.

*And we need open borders so Bill Gates can bring in desperate foreigners who will work for less than Americans.
You are beyond parody, Doug. I have nothing to say, other than hasta la vista, baby.
Dam spillway fails due to lack of maintenance in a state run by a Democratic legislature with a Democratic Governor and two Democratic Senators after an 8-year Democratic POTUS raised the deficit by 8 trillion dollars but this is GOP's fault because shut up racist.

ReplyDeleteWatching this fake news Flynn thing occur is hilarious. Dems are bleeding from their eyes and ears. SAD!
ReplyDeleteWingnut college students may have just had their first and only lessons in humility. Too bad none of them will remember it.
ReplyDeleteNow that Trump is president, I'm worried Muslims are going to be displeased with Western society.
ReplyDeleteTrump's first three weeks has me so unable to even I've had to double my sessions over at the Brooklyn Adult Swaddling Studio
ReplyDeleteWe did everything right by calling a bunch of white people uneducated racist nazis. Then Russia came along and made us look bad.
ReplyDeleteThe white tears over "Dear White People" are delicious!
ReplyDeleteThe impending Oroville Dam failure is Trump's fault. No man-made structure is capable holding back so many liberal tears.
ReplyDeleteWell at least you have to admit this is entertaining. Then again what do you expect from a reality tv star?
ReplyDeleteIz be yo and muffa phuka and yo yo. Y'alls be down wit de Muslim beez down wit yo.
ReplyDelete"The bald guy sez the headline was misleading."
ReplyDeleteEditors write headlines, not article authors.
Do you have something against bald people? Lots of Blacks shave their heads.
"calling people 'nazis' afterwards does show some promise."
You're already rehabilitating Adolph Hitler, as people read things like "Mein Kampf" and realize that they are dealing RIGHT NOW with the kind of crap he was fighting in the 1930's. You are quickly going to use the N-word at some White guy and be answered, "So? They were right, we were wrong"... and your blood will run cold when nobody around him bats an eye.
Using language like that will legitimize a Final Solution to the Black problem. So by all means, keep doing it. You deserve what will come of it.
Shocking, James isn't too busy molesting some innocent animal to post. Strange.
ReplyDeleteI guess it's official, we gave James a whole week to start his race war and as we guessed he was too much of a pussy to do it so he is now officially James Bitch.
ReplyDeleteGetting better. Lying embarrassment Flynn resigned. Can the rest of this clusterfuck be far behind?
