Open thread Wednesday.

MORE DISCLAIMERS It's open thread Wednesday field hands, and I need you to freely express yourselves about issues of the day that are important to you. (There will be no trump style 1st Amendment restrictions on this blog.)

Personally, I am thinking about the aforementioned Mr. trump trying to bring my fellow countryman, Usain Bolt, into his fight with the NFL players. Not going to work. It's an age old trick that racists like to play:  turn one black man against the other. Sorry Mr. trump, Usain Bolt will not be your Hopping Bob.

I am thinking about the lovely way Jane Fonda threw shade at the Black Santa Lady.

I an thinking and concerned that  Republicans in Alabama might be sending a certifiable madman to Washington.  The guy makes Donald trump seem sane for crying out loud.

I am thinking that we all need to be taking a closer look at this Russia facebook story.

Finally, I am thinking that Puerto Rico is becoming trump's Katrina.

Thoughts?

  5. Don't fuck with Jane Fonda. Or Robert Redford, for that matter.

I don't know about comparisons between Katrina and Maria, but I do know that thousands of shipping containers full of everything so desperately needed in Puerto Rico right now are sitting in the port for lack of anyone to drive them to where they are needed, passable roads and bridges to drive them over, and anyone in charge of organizing their shipment, and of course gas or diesel to power the trucks.
People have already died in hospitals for lack of electricity to run the machines, and half of the people are still without potable water, and are walking miles in 90 degree heat to stand in line for hours to buy fuel for their generators.
The planes flying out have empty seats in them because the computers aren't working at the airlines, this despite hundreds of people at the airport with money trying to get a flight off of the island.

So yeah, a week in, it could be better managed.

The USNS Comfort has finally been dispatched to back up the failing hospitals, but won't be there for another week.

This is what you vote for when you vote for Republicans. Do you really think an island full of people he would put on the other side of his imaginary wall if he could are a priority for Fergus, beyond the political damage the comparisons to Katrina might do?

Bannon endorsed religious nut Moore and said Trump was misled in to supporting Luther Strange. The guy with the super villain name. I'm not sure either of them could be worse than the guy they would replace, Jeff Sessions. Session's DOJ heavily redacted the reluctantly disclosed documents about the Bill Clinton/Loretta Lynch tarmac meeting. What didn't they want us to see? The part about golf or the part about the grand kids? The FBI (which is under the DOJ) also said there wasn't enough public interest to justify releasing additional Hillary emails. And here I am trying to decide if I should take yoga lessons or not. The CIA must have pictures of Jeff Sessions doing something to little boys.

If the Republicans cover up Democrats using our taxes to pay off blackmail, the Republicans should be shot. One woman representative fired Imran Awan when reports of him abusing women first came in. Another wrote off $130,000 of missing computer equipment. About 15 others, and men representatives, fired him when he was banned as a security risk. Debbie Wasserman Schultz kept him on as a consultant to bypass the ban, and only fired him after he was arrested trying to leave for Pakistan (not Russia). He apparently had family and friends on the payroll to circumvent the cap on congressional aide pay.

I hope people have at least seen Wasserman Schultz threatening the Capitol Hill Police Chief to get a computer back. She said it hers until she couldn't get it back, then it became his. Awan left it to be found with copies of his ID and notes marked attorney client privilege. Today it was reported that Awan accessed the congressional server 5,400 unauthorized times and downloaded massive amounts of data to offsite servers. He also had Debbie Wasserman Schultz's password. The CIA controlled Washington Compost said a Democrat said Awan downloaded pictures of his kids and copies of his kid's homework. Yes, it was some combination of either 250,000 family photos on a computer where you couldn't see them because it didn't have a monitor, or terabytes of homework for grade school kids. Teachers shouldn't be assigning hundred page book reports to little kids. But law enforcement reportedly recognized a coverup and criminal intent.

Homeland Security has argued that the Jones Act isn't really hurting Puerto Rico at the moment. That's because the hurricane so badly damaged the island's ports that it's not going to be possible to bring in many supplies by ship, whether those ships be American or foreign. Most of the supplies will have to be flown in.

It isn't really disputable that the Jones Act has hurt Puerto Rico's economy over the years, by driving up the cost of imported goods (and in the Caribbean, most goods are imported). This has contributed to Puerto Rico's government developing its unsustainable debt.

The Washington Compost had to retract the claim in their cover story that Obama's conversation with Mark Zuckerberg about "fake news" on Facebook included any mention of Russia. As I've mentioned before, the Washington Compost's parent company, AOL, has a cloud service contract with the CIA that is worth more than twice as much as the Washington Compost. How's that for a conflict of interest? I wonder how much trouble hey have getting their alleged pedophile employee, John Podesta,to write what the CIA wants? Maybe they can just get him a pizza with walnut sauce for an hour.

After deep state whore Robert Mueller pressured Facebook to find "Russian interference" ads, Facebook found $T100,000 worth of ads. That includes ones that ran after the election and general non partisan complaints about the system, like Facebook is full of. Does it include ads for Viagra? Facebook has annual revenue of 27 billion. Dr. Evil is ashamed of Putin.

Congressional war pimps like Adam Schiff and Mark Warner want the Facebook search expanded to include Estonia which is in NATO and not allied with Russia at all, as well as other former Soviet block countries. Of course all Russians are linked with the Kremlin and only Russians have fake accounts on Facebook. Russia isn't our enemy. The Americans who lie us into wars are.

In Oakland, California, the NAACP reported that out of 45 officer-involved shootings in the city between 2004 and 2008, 37 of those shot were black. None were white. One-third of the shootings resulted in fatalities. Although weapons were not found in 40 percent of cases, the NAACP found, no officers were charged. (These numbers don’t include 22-year-old Oscar Grant, who was shot and killed by a transit authority officer at the Fruitvale BART station on New Year’s Day of 2009.)

Whites, blacks and Latino. One white was killed while armed with an air conditioner. Wonder what the lethal range and Taylor knockout co-efficient of that baby was. I grew up in Seaside Height and we lost nearly everything in Sandy. There was no power, no gasoline, and no water available for weeks. In New Jersey! The response from the Obama administration was horrible. We got almost zero help from the federal government. It was almost two years before our HUD loan was approved. By that time, we had already decided to move out.

No, the federal response, especially in the early going, is up to FEMA. They did a very poor job getting generators and water out to people. It was very cold at night without power. All of these supplies were piled up and available, yet they couldn't get their act together to distribute them. Obama said all the right things before the election, but after it was over the incompetence of FEMA was ridiculous.

    - Open thread Wednesday, hmm. My thought is that mass insanity seems to have taken over. Most people are so steeped in the poisonous tea of anger and hatred, and so hair-trigger ready to take umbrage and react as though it's some immediate and lethal personal attack, that there are very few who even try to think rationally and express ideas logically. Common sense has become increasingly rare, and increasingly rejected when it does appear.
    - It's impossible to have an actual *discussion* about issues, because it almost instantly turns into noting more than the verbal equivalent of agitated apes flinging their turds around. Homo sapiens, what a laugh - more like Homo insipidens.
    - And to think that many refuse to "believe" that humans and apes shared a common ancestor, even though our two species behave *far* more similarly, than differently... :p

As to the planes in Puerto Rico, I assume they mean commercial passenger jetliners aren't able to land there normally with the airport infrastructure damage. I'm sure the military will be able to make arrangements for their aircraft to get in to deliver aid. The military has cargo helicopters and Ospreys that can land vertically. Don't even need a proper runway.

I don't think she is implying that women should always vote for a female candidate. She is saying that Trump, because of his personal characteristics, is bad for women, regardless of his gender.

Trump is, in fact, super sexist. He views all women as either irritants, if they have the audacity to disagree with him, or fuckholes, useful only for his sexual gratification. However, for many women, it turns out that wasn't a huge concern as far as voting was concerned. They won't have to interact with him personally, so who really cares if he's offensive, or a sexual assaulter?

More to Michelle Obama's point, though, his administration will mean lots of policies that are lousy for women. And he's not uniquely bad in that respect; his whole damn party supports anti-women policies. So what should really be the moral of the story? Not that women shouldn't vote for Trump, but that women should never vote for any Republican, ever.

    - Meanwhile, most reasonably-capable white Christian males - and females BTW - seem to do OK, and better than OK, despite the supposed "war against a white christmas" or whatever subliminal satanic message they "beeeLEEEEV" Starbucks is putting on its coffee cups.

    - Hmmmmm, come to think of it, in addition to Jefferson having some Middle Eastern, meaning "non-white", genes, I've also heard that Jesus had *Jewish* parents and was himself a Rabbi ((meaning "teacher" FWLIW)), OMG! OMG! OMG! So that means Christianity is also not a "white" belief system OMG! OMG! OMG!
    - Oh wait, we don't have to panic - all the pictures in the religious pamphlets and on the Eternal Web Sites show that he was White, and looks kinda like a cross between David Bowie and Boy George, so I guess it's OK for whites to be Christians after all...
