Open thread Wednesday.

My photoIt's Wednesday, so it's time for you field hands to give me your opinions on a few stories that have been in the headlines of late.

Is Ann Coulter hating on Donald trump a real thing?

trump just announced another cabinet shake-up, what is he trying to distract us from this time?

Why do conservatives hate the kids from Parkland so much?

Is the citizenship test on the census an attempt by trump and his people to rig the elections for years to come?

South Africa just sentenced a woman to three years in prison for a racist rant that went viral. Thoughts?

Here in America a bus full of white college lacrosse players were caught on video singing and rapping the n word over and over again. Thoughts?

Is Stormy Daniels' lawyer the real deal, or is he just a bluffer and a poser?

"Is Ann Coulter hating on Donald trump a real thing?

She's gone full Klansman in recent years, so there's no such thing as "racist enough" for her. She won't be satisfied with Trump unless and until he gets rid of all Americans who are not white. Lou Dobbs doesn't hold very different views, by the way. He just uses less offensive language than Ann Coulter.

"trump just announced another cabinet shake-up, what is he trying to distract us from this time?"

Dunno. Maybe it's not a distraction. Maybe he just had a temper tantrum and decided to get rid of the last Obama appointee (and, naturally, the last competent person) remaining in his cabinet. We all know Trump is paranoid about leaks to the press from disloyal staffers. The worst possible thing for him would be if the voting public gets to keep hearing truthful information from inside the White House about what a giant buffoon he is.

"Why do conservatives hate the kids from Parkland so much?"

Because they are succeeding. The wingnuts are terrified those very sympathetic kids will win and effective gun control will become a reality and dangerous dipshits won't be able to get their hillbilly hands on AR-15s anymore.

"Is the citizenship test on the census an attempt by trump and his people to rig the elections for years to come?

Possibly. Or maybe, because they're giant racists, they just find it super urgent to try to find out how many illegal immigrants there are, so they can deport them all.

Being giant racists, they are so obsessed with this issue that they don't care that this will screw up the accuracy of the census, due to illegal residents not responding to the census for fear of deportation.

"South Africa just sentenced a woman to three years in prison for a racist rant that went viral. Thoughts?"

Foolishness. Hate speech laws are a generally bad idea. They can have a chilling effect on political debates that need to be had, and in the worst cases can be used by governments to shut down criticism of themselves.

It's especially disturbing that black people feel they need to employ this tactic in a country in which black people are the majority and have effective political control. Are black South Africans so fragile that they feel threatened by hurtful comments from the now politically (mostly) powerless white minority and need to resort to muzzling them?

"Here in America a bus full of white college lacrosse players were caught on video singing and rapping the n word over and over again. Thoughts?"

Black readers will not like this, but I think there are truly only two pragmatic options here.

Either black artists can stop making songs filled with racial slurs.

Or else black people can "enjoy" hearing clueless white people spewing the n-word as they sing along with such songs, because there will always be stupid white folks who are not capable of understanding nuance and can't see why this is offensive.

Wishful thinking -- along the lines of: "that is our word now; we've reclaimed it" -- won't change the reality. How about just retiring the word?

"Is Stormy Daniels' lawyer the real deal, or is he just a bluffer and a poser?"

He, and his client, are angling for another Trump payday. They may get their wish, because Trump has way bigger fish to fry with Bob Mueller, and he'll want to make this pornstar-humping business go away as quickly as possible.

Then again, if Trump pays off Stormy, will that encourage all the other women he's used as sperm receptacles over the years to come after him seeking their own jackpots? It's quite a dilemma. I feel so bad for him. Wait, hang on, no, I don't.

  4. Trump lies, part 34,84712:41 AM

“Great briefing this afternoon on the start of our Southern Border WALL!” Trump tweeted on Wednesday, attaching four photos apparently from the scene of a small barrier replacement project in Calexico, California.

    This is, of course, bogus.

Nobody has started any work on his dumb wall. Congress is refusing to fund his dumb wall. Mexico is -- ha, ha, ha -- definitely not paying for his dumb wall.

The photos he tweeted were routine repair work on the existing border fencing.

    What a douche.

  5. 1) Gorgon Ann might be regretting "In Trump We Trust" now that he has betrayed her like he betrays everyone he deals with.

    2) At least he didn't hire the Fox News moron to lead the second largest agency in the government. This wasn't a surprise. The VA has been fighting its way into the 21st century since we swamped it with the fallout from the Iraq war, and it wasn't humming smoothly along before that. Three administrations in a row have now fired its director because it has been a mess trying unsuccessfully to convert from paper-based information and records to computers. Multiple billions have been spent on software that didn't work, while the agency tried to care for a massive influx of veterans at the same time. Paul Rykoff said that it is where administrators go to fail.
Add to that the hard-on Republicans have for "privatizing" it, and poor Ronny has his work cut out for him.

    3) Because they are terrified of them, and for good reason.

    4) Yup. they're losing gerrymandering in the courts, lots of statehouses are in play in November, and they have gotten nice and comfortable with their baked-in ten point advantage.
So since historically, the president's party loses their first midterm election, they're freaking the fuck out and trying loot and burn down everything they can while they still have a lock on the government.
Contrast this with the stone cold political brilliance they employed in the last lead up to the census, and you can see how much worse the Republican party is now even than how awful it was in 2010.

    5) Freedom of speech is a good thing, and I'm really glad we have it here. Things like that make me appreciate it even more. It might be a cautionary tale, though, about what the consequences of oppressing people could end up being, but as I've never been there, I don't really know.

    6) You know, I kinda saw shit like this coming, back when rap first started crossing over to white audiences, some of whom will never understand it enough to behave responsibly about it.
I had a coworker/housemate in the late '90s who was from Amarillo and drank heavily, and while I have never been comfortable with that word, he thought it was hilarious.
We tried to convince him that it wasn't a good idea for a drunken white guy to use that word, no matter how ironic he thought it was coming from him, on the streets of Oakland on foot.
I think it was the second time he woke up in the ER with staples in his head that it dawned on him that we were serious.

    7) According to one of his former law professors, he's the real deal, especially when compared to Fergus' collection of TV personalities and wannabe mob lawyers.
If he can manage to keep the case out of arbitration and proceed to discovery, Fergus is in a world of hurt.

  6. Don't mention her name and she will go away.
Of course trump and the GOP will find a way to use the census to their advantage.
3 years is a little harsh for a rant, then again as they say to us she should have just complied with the law and she would be at home right now.
Rappers should be more conscious about their lyrics because we all know young white guys and gals can't wait to use the n word and they love rap soooooooo.

  29. With rights come responsibilities. So you wanna keep the second amendment beyond the time when it no longer has the support of the citizenry? Then stop acting so goddamn crazy about it, and make a good faith effort to help solve the problems your dangerous hobby is causing in society.

What you left out of your quotes supporting your position was the goddamn constitution itself.

    Article V:
The Congress, whenever two thirds of both houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose amendments to this Constitution, or, on the application of the legislatures of two thirds of the several states, shall call a convention for proposing amendments, which, in either case, shall be valid to all intents and purposes, as part of this Constitution, when ratified by the legislatures of three fourths of the several states, or by conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other mode of ratification may be proposed by the Congress; provided that no amendment which may be made prior to the year one thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any manner affect the first and fourth clauses in the ninth section of the first article; and that no state, without its consent, shall be deprived of its equal suffrage in the Senate.

That's a high bar to clear, and unlikely as it is, it's still possible if the electorate feels the government is too fucked up to respond to their ongoing mass murder.

Either way, through an amendment or a supreme court decision, or perhaps even legislation, there will be a day when the citizens, 78% of whom don't own guns, have had enough slaughter and bullshit about it.

Change is coming, not if, but when, and how much.

If you want a say in the when and how much, show yourselves to be worthy of that responsibility.

I own half of ten guns right now (my sister also owns them) and none of them have ever been used in a crime, and no humans have been killed with them. It's really not that difficult. But it does require a certain level of sanity that not everyone is in possession of.

So I suggest you start practicing your act, so you at least appear to be in possession of the sort of judgement that can be trusted with a firearm, if you wish to keep your right to own one.

    > With rights come responsibilities.

Funny you don't say this to black people when they're acting out and demanding things.  Not that it would change their behavior unless they were made to cease and desist.  Words don't get through to them; there's only one language they understand, violence.

It's almost like... education is wasted on 95% of them, and "civil rights" is a cruel joke.  James Crow and Judge Lynch did nothing wrong.

    > So you wanna keep the second amendment beyond the time when it no longer has the support of the citizenry?

The Second Amendment has the full support of Americans.  If the USA is a proposition nation, accepting the Constitution including the 2nd is REQUIRED to be an American and everyone else is a fake American.  There are tons of places where having a gun is not recognized as a right:  most of Africa, Brazil, Honduras, the UK, and even Canada right next door.  Go to one of those places if legal civilian guns scare you.

    > Then stop acting so goddamn crazy about it

You REALLY think that people with rifles and pistols are MORE dangerous than people without?  The blood of millions of Russians, Ukranians, Chinese, and Cambodians says that you're the dangerous one:  a dangerous idiot, or a would-be tyrant in the mold of Stalin and Pol Pot.  YOU are right to be afraid of guns, because their most important purpose is to keep people like YOU from getting or keeping power.

Also, people who elect a muslim-ass-kissing schmuck like (((Scott Israel))) who drops the ball 48 times in a row deserve what they get.

    > and make a good faith effort to help solve the problems your dangerous hobby is causing in society.

It's not a hobby.  It's a sacred right and duty, to be ready to defend the country and myself against all enemies, foreign AND domestic.  White America has a homicide rate less than many European countries; it has nothing to do with those problems.  Black and brown people shooting each other up in the USA can be solved by sending them back to their ancestral homes.  There they can have the society they create all to themselves, and write laws which suit them.  America is for Americans; everyone else has to go back.

We didn't give him any of our reloading supplies as the buckshot isn't legal now to even shoot, much less hunt with, and we weren't sure of the legality of selling the other supplies to someone without having a FFL.

How about working on YOUR sane-guy act and advocating for policies that work, like stop-and-frisk in high-criminality populations?  We can all see that your narrative that a guy with an AR-15 in Nebraska or Texas is responsible for a nutcase in Florida is bullshit.  Stop and frisk in Memphis night clubs definitely WOULD work.

The real outrage about Parkland is that it was created by policy.  The Obama administration pushed to stop the "school-to-prison pipeline" by not arresting minority "youths".  Nikolas Cruz wasn't arrested despite at least 48 calls to his address because the Broward Sheriff Office was in on the school system policy of keeping a quota on arrests to make the numbers demanded by the White House.

Guess what happens when you allow free reign for criminality?  You get more of it.  Americans won't give up their guns because libtard policies make them increasingly unsafe.

So the Parkland event was a false-flag to provide the pretext for the pre-planned anti-gun rally.  If it wasn't Nikolas Cruz it would have been another one of the dozens of head cases being managed as assets by our gun-grabbers.  They'd run a bunch of them to make certain of having something in the news at the right time.  Once one of them goes off, they can quietly discourage or crack down on the rest.

Sorry, gun grabbers, but we are on to your psyops.  Especially since we have the book you wrote on the subject which laid out this exact plan... in 1992.
