It's nice to be back in the swing of things and catching up on the home front.
There has been a lot of serious news about this president over the past few days. Having said that, I need to know your thoughts on a couple of things:
Bob Woodward , he of Watergate fame, just wrote an explosive new book about the president and the crazy s*** he has been doing in the White House since being elected. It is aptly called "Fear", and I need to know how much of the book you think is accurate.
And today, in what has to be unprecedented in American history, one of the folks in trump's inner circle decided to pen an oped for the New York Times.
First, who do you think wrote it?
And second, do you believe that the person who wrote it is a hero for penning this anonymous letter?
Or, do you think that he/she is a coward for not resigning and stating all of their concerns, publicly?
Talk about sensory overload. Not to be conspiracy brotha but maybe all of this is coming out to desensitize us for something. I mean I was all ready for Jade Helm and ending up in a Walmart jail or something but that disappointed me. Damn you Obama, can't even pull off a conspiracy correctly.
ReplyDeleteBastards!
ReplyDeleteIt's all true. Nothing left but the crying.
People are coming out of the woodwork to prop up Woodward's work, which I haven't read so I will reserve judgement, mostly noting his penchant for recording the interviews he writes about.
ReplyDeleteAnd I see the anonymous op-ed as a lifeboat by Republicans who have just realized they may need to be employable post 2020.
We know what he's doing. We don't need a goddamn Republican to tell us.
We told everyone who would listen what he would do, and now he's doing what we said he would, and your concern for the country does not impress me when you still want to destroy it with Republican policies, rendering your complaint to one of tone, not substance.
The apocalypse is cool, but decorum. Nazis are cool but stability of process.
Basically, go fuck yourselves. You chose to serve this rat bastard, you deserve whatever consequences come your way.
And they're on the way, we aren't gonna forget what you did.

This senior Trump official works hard every day to make sure a man he believes to be a dangerous, amoral, and erratic tyrant is able to stay in power for long enough to enact a Republican agenda. And this official views himself as a woefully unappreciated savior of the Republic.

“Or, do you think that he/she is a coward for not resigning and stating all of their concerns, publicly?”
ReplyDeleteWell, that assumes that there would actually be any benefit to the person coming forward publicly.
I guess the main benefit would be that what they’ve said about Trump’s incompetence would be more credible coming from a named staffer than from an anonymous one. With the latter situation, you know that Trump will just claim it’s all made up: The “failing” NY Times invented this purported disloyal White House staffer, they’re out to get me, WITCH HUNT!! FAKE NEWS!!
And so on.
But on the other hand, even if they voiced their concerns without anonymity, giving them more impact ... how much impact are we talking about, really? Probably only a small percentage of voters will change their minds about Trump.
Left-leaning voters have already figured out that Trump is a dangerous maniac, while right-leaning voters have their heads so far up their asses, there is no hope of pulling them out again. No matter what kind of evidence of Trump’s awfulness you offer up, they stick their fingers in their ears and go la-la-la-can’t-hear-you. Congressional Republicans are clearly too spineless to rein Trump in, regardless of whatever egregious fuck-ups he may make or crimes he may commit.
I don’t know. I don’t think the op-ed piece matters that much at this point. In which case, better for the person to stay anonymous, keep their job, and continue taking the matches away from Trump so he can’t burn the country to the ground.
The op-ed piece and Woodard's book aren't new revelations. Anyone with a thinking brain or common sense knows that Trump is crazier than a road lizard and dangerous. Hundreds of psychiatrist warned people that Trump wasn't playing with a full deck and that he's dangerous. The GOP knew that too. It wasn't top secret. And it's gonna get worse.
ReplyDeleteThey are scared of him. Politicians are being threatened.
Something about the op-ed smells fishy to me. The person is so-called dropping a dime on one hand but praising Trump's draconian policies on the other hand. He is telling people what's obvious and what everyone already knows but a little too gleeful in making sure that those draconian policies go through so he can get his cut of the bounty. My guess is Rudy,Trump or Trump's family leaked the op-ed. It's a plant/setup. Well, what's in the dark will surely come to the light.
The Trump administration makes Nixon look like a choir boy.
The source could have audio and video of Drumpf singing his pubic hair with the constitution on fire and Drumpf would call that person a liar and fake news and wingnuts would totally ignore the crime.Nothing new here. Move along.
ReplyDeleteGrannyStandingForTruth got it. The op-ed is a psyop, a massive troll against the left, a red herring to blow up their (your) egos before the hammer blows which are about to fall next month just before the mid-terms.
ReplyDeleteWhy push something like that to the NYT? To further discredit the NYT. When even progressives see the NYT as fake news, it's over. #WINNING

I agree with your statements here. Any people remaining who still support Trump as president are beyond the reach of evidence or logic. I think it's better that staffers and advisers stay on the job and try to protect our country and prevent Trump from starting WW3.
Considering that Trump has repeatedly broken laws and protocol and gotten away with it, resigning wouldn't make any difference. We are stuck with a do-nothing Republican congress, so let's hope Democrats take the House in November. As long as Republicans hold both houses of congress, nothing will be done to stop Trump.

He allowed members of Drumpf Dump South to sit in and record official sensitive talks with Japanese Prime Minister when the meeting should have been in a secured room. There are all kinds of photos of guests taking pics of sensitive documents with their cell phones.
Just for starters. And no HRC emails had nothing to do with this.
"Dare one ask what you consider proof?"
ReplyDeleteHow about anything? One document. One payment. One personal testimony that Trump colluded with Russia.
But there is nothing.
On the other hand, we know that the Clinton campaign, using Fusion GPS, paid a foreign operative (Christopher Steele) who in turn paid Russian intelligence officials for dirt on Trump, which was used by the Obama administration to justify spying on the Trump campaign and which was later leaked to the press.
Therefore, HRC colluded with the Russians to influence the 2016 election.
Donald Trump may have colluded with the Russians to influence the 2016 election, but to date, a two-year long investigation, one that has arrested several members of the Trump campaign on non-related charges in order to "flip" them on Trump, one that has also raided the President's private lawyer's office, confiscating all privileged files as well as secretly recorded phone conversations, has come up with nothing that implicates him as doing so.

Ezra Klein on why the revelations of Trump’s utter incompetence and psychological dysfunction revealed in that anonymous NYT op-ed (or in Bob Woodward’s recent book) won’t change much about our woeful state of political affairs, because of the spinelessness of congressional Republicans:
ReplyDelete“As Republican Sen. Bob Corker said in response to the op-ed, ‘this is what all of us have understood to be the situation from day one.’
Corker’s statement was meant to be a damning indictment of Trump, but it’s actually a damning indictment of Corker and his colleagues, who have done little to check Trump save complain to the press. They have known the situation was this bad since day one, and they have done nothing about it.
Corker, at least, speaks out. The rest of his party has studiously avoided the subject, actively protected Trump from investigation and oversight, and constantly excused the president’s outbursts. Privately, they gripe that they know this president is unfit for office, but they don’t want to imperil their tax agenda, judicial nominees, or reelections by actually acting on that judgment.”
The crisis isn’t Trump. It’s his Republican enablers.
ReplyDeleteAll too accurate, Doug. Trump’s staffers are, no doubt terrible people in their own right. Trump appointed them, after all, so they’re almost certainly not good people.
But they’re less evil/crazy than Trump, because almost everyone is. And while it is a suboptimal solution to have them tricking and “handling” Trump in order to stave off WWIII — he needs to be removed from office — this is still preferable to allowing him free rein to cause a cataclysmic disaster.
Fact: Poor white trash women in Appalachia WILL start dying in large numbers from back woods abortion after Kavanaugh is confirmed.
ReplyDelete“Fact: Poor white trash women in Appalachia WILL start dying in large numbers from back woods abortion after Kavanaugh is confirmed.”
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but I actually take a different view on this. I think, in the long run, Roe v. Wade being overturned might expand abortion rights.
Too many middle-class conservative women take abortion rights for granted and assume that they are not under threat, and such a decision might wake them up to the reality, resulting in a backlash that causes comprehensive abortion rights to be democratically written into federal law, rather than being underpinned by a flimsy SCOTUS judgment.
Also keep in mind that Roe has already been eroded so much over the years by various court cases and state laws that many red states already de facto ban abortion for poor women. Those “white trash” women in Appalachia are already pretty much in coathanger abortion territory.
Meanwhile, rich women can always fly to a blue state to get their abortions done. Hell, even if abortion was banned everywhere in the US, rich women could still fly to Canada to get it done.
Anyway, those are my two cents. Roe v. Wade being overturned would have minimal effect on the status quo. Blue states would continue to offer abortion. Red states would ban it — but they’ve already virtually banned it now, so not actually a major change.
But such a court decision would really piss off massive numbers of women and result in the passage of iron-clad, coast-to-coast abortion rights enshrined in law.
If conservatives succeed at this particular goal, they will ultimately come to regret it.
