I am forever amazed at how many of our fellow Americans continue to normalize the presidency of Donald J. trump. It's as if all the blatant racism and overall ignorance he has been displaying for the past three years (eight years if you count his birtherism BS) should just be ignored.
I suppose that if you belong to a particular group of Americans it's easier to do that. In fact, members of that particular group is why we have a President trump in the first place.
The following article by Carol Anderson was written in November of 2016 for Time Magazine. It is an article that is worth revisiting given where we are in the trump presidency with impeachment looming over the horizon.
"White rage got us here. While the economic anxiety of Trump supporters is often touted as the driving force behind the mogul’s electoral college victory, that rationale is just a ruse, a clever red herring. The median income of a Trump supporter is more than $70,000 per year, which is well above the national average, and a 2016 study noted that it would take African Americans 228 years to equal the wealth of whites in the U.S. Clearly, Trump’s pathway into the Oval Office is not really about white economic angst. Rather, Barack Obama’s election — and its powerful symbolism of black advancement — was the major trigger for the policy backlash that led to Donald Trump, and which has now put America’s national security at risk.
Republicans carved out this trench shortly after Obama’s 2008 victory. The GOP pushed through a number of laws at the state level to block as many of his voters, primarily African Americans, from the polls as possible. North Carolina targeted black voters with nearly “surgical precision.” Wisconsin Republicans were “giddy” about disfranchising African Americans, especially in Milwaukee. Florida’s GOP cut particular days of early voting to nullify the political participation of black churchgoers. Texas required certain types of government-issued photo IDs to vote and then ensured that nearly 1.6 million black and Latino citizens would have very limited access. Ohio skewed its early voting laws to diminish the turnout in the cities while also implementing a literacy test that officials applied only to those in urban counties.
The end result was that the Republicans had effectively shattered the black and Latino demographic firewall that could have prevented a Trump presidency. A Trump presidency, to be clear, that many in the Republican establishment rightfully feared because of the mogul’s demonstrated unfitness for office.
But they didn’t fear it enough. Because even in the wake of federal court orders striking down many of the most odious, discriminatory features of voter suppression, the GOP resisted, stalled and defied the judiciary until confusion and resignation reigned at the polls. It was too late.
In a horrific Faustian calculation, these Republican patriots put the nation at risk so that Trump could fulfill his dominant campaign promise. And, to be clear, it was not to make America great again, but to make access to America’s resources “whites only” again. The Klan recognized it, as did the white nationalists who gave Trump their full-throttled support. But, this wasn’t just a fantasy of the far right. The allure of a revived Jim Crow nation that proudly, willfully excludes and debases millions of nonwhites was so reaffirming and reassuring that everything else became secondary or tertiary. Everything else, including national security.
Despite his glaring lack of qualifications, patriots shoved Trump into the role of Commander in Chief — a man who had already maligned the U.S. military as a “disaster,” denigrated the generals dismantling ISIS, and disparaged POWs for being stupid enough to get caught. Patriots cheered on as Trump asked the Russian government to hack an American citizen who had led a national-security agency. Patriots acquiesced to a foreign policy that encouraged nuclear proliferation, oozed profound ignorance about the basic fundamentals of U.S. nuclear capability, and kept in play use of the ultimate weapon by a man who has difficulty even maintaining control on Twitter.
Patriots gleefully ignored warnings by the National Security Agency that the hacked documents released by WikiLeaks were actually the result of and washed through Russian intelligence. Patriots didn’t blink when Trump’s economic plan included the possibility of defaulting on the U.S. debt although that “could undermine the stability of global financial markets” on a scale not seen since the Great Recession and cost American taxpayers billions of dollars in higher interest rates. Patriots accepted Trump’s admiration of Vladimir Putin, disdain for the President of the United States, and a foreign policy agenda that matched up smoothly with the Russian — not American — government’s.
In other words, in January 2017, a man will be at the helm of the U.S. military, intelligence and foreign policy bureaucracies, who actually encouraged foreign intervention in an American election and advocated for dismantling the alliances that will aid Russian expansionism and weaken U.S. influence and power. Yet, the patriots bet that the trade-off will be well worth it.
Clearly, white rage has brought us here." [Source]

Yes, Trump is a great embarrassment to me and many other Americans. Just when you think he can't possibly do anything worse, he does.
The conservatives were so upset that Obama was such a good president, they panicked and brought in the devil's henchman to run in 2016. I kinda hope that they all rot in hell, but unfortunately I don't think hell exists.
It's no accident that they nominated the king of the birthers with more votes than any Republican candidate in history.
ReplyDeleteThey knew who and what he is and voting for him was them saying fuck you to the country who twice elected Obama.
That's how much they care about the country: they would sooner burn it down with Fergus than allow someone capable who didn't hate Obama to be the president.

ReplyDeleteSo much wrong packed in a single sentence.
Trumped joked about Hillary's emails and a two-year investigation cleared him of collusion. Hillary, on the other hand, paid millions of dollars for Russian disininformation.
NATO is still in place, and now our European allies pay more of their fair share for their defense.
Russia is regional power that is too economically weak to threaten US interests. Dem's focus on Russia to distract from their sell-out to China.
And the U.S. military, intelligence and foreign policy bureaucracies Trump heads have been trying to take him down since before he was elected. The left cheers this subversion of democracy because they are totalitarians.
Trump won because he had a populist message for working class voters, a demographic abandoned by both parties.
ReplyDeleteObama was an unaccomplished cipher who got elected solely because he was black. He was a puppet of the establishment.
You hate Trump because he is white, and because his base is white.
Nonfarm payrolls rose by 128,000 in October, exceeding the estimate of 75,000 from economists surveyed by Dow Jones.
ReplyDeleteThere were big revisions of past numbers as well. August’s initial 168,000 payrolls addition was revised up to 219,000, while September’s jumped from 136,000 to 180,000.The unemployment rate for African Americans nudged down to a record low 5.4%. Also, the total employment level as measured in the household survey jumped to 158.5 million, also a new high.
The pace of average hourly earnings picked up a bit, rising 0.1% to a year-over-year 3% gain, also in line with estimates. The average work week was unchanged at 34.4 hours.
“This report is yet another sign that the economy is still strong right now and adds to a list of indicators that are looking optimistic of late,” said Steve Rick, chief economist at CUNA Mutual Group. “The vigor of this labor market, along with a more positive housing market and solid Q3 GDP, should offer some welcome reassurance.”

In the real world, so-called "conservatives" hated Trump. They still do; just look at all the opposition Trump has from his own party in the Senate. Progressive wokeness is just an excuse for sociopaths to behave like the assholes they are without suffering any social repercussions.
ReplyDeleteFrom Vox.... FBI investigated the allegation for Kenneth Starr's Independent Counsel office, and found the evidence "inconclusive." There are no direct witnesses and no physical evidence to back up the accusation. "It’s important to note — and Broaddrick concedes — that aside from her, there are no witnesses and as far as we know, no one saw Clinton enter or leave Broaddrick’s room, or even the hotel," Myers said in the NBC broadcast. "She took no photos, kept no evidence and the hotel has no records to confirm that she stayed there." That said, there are plenty of rapes where the victim has no physical evidence or good witnesses with which to back up their story. The lack of those categories of evidence makes the key question in the case, "Do we believe Broaddrick, or do we believe Clinton?"
ReplyDeleteIn his memoir The Clinton Wars, White House aide Sidney Blumenthal notes that when Paula Jones's lawyers first approached Broaddrick, she refused to cooperate, and upon being subpoenaed signed an affidavit saying, "I do not have any information to offer regarding a nonconsensual or unwelcome sexual advance by Mr. Clinton." Only after that did she file another affidavit insisting the assault did occur, at which point, Blumenthal argues, she "had no standing as a reliable witness."
Pres. Trump promised he would, and this week did formally withdraw the US from the Paris Climate Accord. Here’s why he did the right thing…
ReplyDeleteClinton has not been accused of any specific sexual misconduct connected to Epstein. As for Trump: During the 2016 campaign, Trump was sued by an anonymous woman who claimed he raped her at an Epstein party when she was 13 years old. However, several journalists who dug into this allegation back then came away voicing caution or downright skepticism, and the accuser withdrew her lawsuit shortly before the election.
ReplyDeleteSo there hasn’t yet been corroboration of Epstein-related wrongdoing on Trump’s part by media outlets, or any accusation against Clinton at all.

Following the 2015 leaks that exposed the DNC rigging the primary against Bernie Sanders, Hillary blamed the Russians.
ReplyDeleteWas there evidence of this?
Nope, the FBI was never allowed to see the DNC server.
In fact, Bill Binney, an NSA employee of 36 years, and leader of whistle blower group "Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity" claims the digital forensics of the emails indicate it was a LEAK not a HACK.
The data transfer too fast to have been obtained via hacking.
Who might know how these emails were obtained?
Wikileaks themselves claims the emails came from a DNC leaker. Wikileaks has a 100% record for accuracy, meaning all info they've provided has been truthful.
They then issued a $20k reward for info on the murder of one DNC staffer: Seth Rich.
There are about a million things wrong with the Official story of Seth’s murder.
The DC police say it was a robbery, but none of his valuables were missing.
The police also refuse to release the body cam footage.

ReplyDeleteNo, I don't. MY beliefs do not "align exactly" with the agenda of your mythical "globalist establishment"
-----------------
Let's start with a test: Do you have any opinions that you would be reluctant to express in front of a group of your peers?
If the answer is no, you might want to stop and think about that. If everything you believe is something you're supposed to believe, could that possibly be a coincidence? Odds are it isn't. Odds are you just think what you're told.
The other alternative would be that you independently considered every question and came up with the exact same answers that are now considered acceptable. That seems unlikely, because you'd also have to make the same mistakes. Mapmakers deliberately put slight mistakes in their maps so they can tell when someone copies them. If another map has the same mistake, that's very convincing evidence.
Like every other era in history, our moral map almost certainly contains a few mistakes. And anyone who makes the same mistakes probably didn't do it by accident. It would be like someone claiming they had independently decided in 1972 that bell-bottom jeans were a good idea.
If you believe everything you're supposed to now, how can you be sure you wouldn't also have believed everything you were supposed to if you had grown up among the plantation owners of the pre-Civil War South, or in Germany in the 1930s—or among the Mongols in 1200, for that matter? Odds are you would have.
Back in the era of terms like "well-adjusted," the idea seemed to be that there was something wrong with you if you thought things you didn't dare say out loud. This seems backward. Almost certainly, there is something wrong with you if you don't think things you don't dare say out loud.
Fergus begged Bevin not to lose last night at his stupid MAGA rally because it would make him look bad.
ReplyDeleteUh, Ferg? Bad is the only way you ever look, and guess what? People, even in fucking Kentucky, don't want to die because they can't see a doctor, which was the platform Matt "Brain Wizard" Bevin ran on.
The suburbs of Cincinnati really sunk Matty boy, while the Republicans swept the hinterland like they always do.
Bevin was sort of Trumpy before Fergus even ran, riding a racist backlash to Obama best demonstrated by the Kentucky state fair right after then governor Steve Beshear stood up the ACA exchanges there and called them Kynect: fair goers came up to the Kynect information booth and said "This looks pretty good, way better than that damn Obamacare."
I don't have any granular data on the Virginia state legislature flipping to the Democrats, but I will point out that those districts have been un-gerrymandered since the 2017 election when despite getting thousands of more votes, the Democrats failed to gain control of either chamber and the house of delegates came down to a tie in the last race, which was decided in the Republicans' favor by drawing names out of a bowl.

My answer is, No, I don't, Jeff. But the reason isn't what you think. I don't have any peers; I'm 83 and all my peers are dead. I remember Pearl Harbor, D-Day, Harry Trumam's surprise victory in 1948, the deaths of Martin, Bobby, and John. The first landing on the moon, the fall of the Berlin wall and rise of the internet.

But the idea that Vladimir Putin controls the President of the United States is not. Why are some conspiracy theories with little factual support preferable to other conspiracy theories for which at least as much circumstantial evidence is out there? Why are today's moral fashions any more rooted in objective truth than the discredited fashions of the past?
The arrival of new fashions makes old fashions easy to see, because they seem so ridiculous by contrast. The ability of men in dresses to use girl's restroom is now a civil right of the greatest importance. From one end of a pendulum's swing, the other end seems especially far away.
To see fashion in your own time, though, requires a conscious effort. Without time to give you distance, you have to create distance yourself. Instead of being part of the mob, stand as far away from it as you can and watch what it's doing. And pay especially close attention whenever an idea is being suppressed. Web filters for children and employees often ban sites containing pornography, violence, and hate speech. What counts as pornography and violence? And what, exactly, is "hate speech?" This sounds like a phrase out of 1984.
Labels like that are probably the biggest external clue. If a statement is false, that's the worst thing you can say about it. You don't need to say that it's heretical. And if it isn't false, it shouldn't be suppressed. So when you see statements being attacked as x-ist or y-ic (substitute your current values of x and y), whether in 1630 or 2030, that's a sure sign that something is wrong. When you hear such labels being used, ask why.
Especially if you hear yourself using them. It's not just the mob you need to learn to watch from a distance. You need to be able to watch your own thoughts from a distance. That's not a radical idea, by the way; it's the main difference between children and adults. When a child gets angry because he's tired, he doesn't know what's happening. An adult can distance himself enough from the situation to say "never mind, I'm just tired." I don't see why one couldn't, by a similar process, learn to recognize and discount the effects of moral fashions. For an example of an adult who can't, just look at Doug from Oakland's posts.
You have to take that extra step if you want to think clearly. But it's harder, because now you're working against social customs instead of with them. Everyone encourages you to grow up to the point where you can discount your own bad moods. Few encourage you to continue to the point where you can discount society's bad moods.
How can you see the wave, when you're the water? Always be questioning. That's the only defense. What can't you say? And why?
"But the idea that Vladimir Putin controls the President of the United States is not."
ReplyDeleteWell, every move trump has made seems to benefit Russia in some way. He advocates Russia's interests often over our own and says publically he believes Putin over his own intelligence agencies. Add in the fact he refuses to release his tax returns and you have a reason to be concerned. This could be cleared up very easily but trump refuses. Gotta make ya wonder.🤔

Gee, I don't know of anyone who is killing babies except trump with his separation policy destroying families seeking asylum at our southern border. Do you know many kids have died so far?
Voters, left and right, have rejected Martin Luther King, affirmative action and sanctuary cities along with market liberal economics.
ReplyDeleteThe Republican party ran TPUSA-style campaigns framing their opponents as abortionists and "socialists" in Virginia and the Kentucky governor's race, the latter which was only competitive thanks to Donald Trump's last minute intervention. The GOP strategy to steer the party away from immigration, populism and protectionism back to Reaganism has been a disastrous electoral failure.
What we can deduce is that American voters, when given the chance to vote, are not fond of the Democratic party's cultural views or the Republican party's economic platform.
Washington: Affirmative Action Ban Upheld
In Washington State, where a number of Democrat and Marxist city council members were up for re-election, Referendum 88 was shot down 51% to 48%.
The law, if approved, would've lifted the state ban on European and Asian racial quotas (affirmative action) in hiring, education and other fields.
This is a remarkable result when put into context. Washington is effectively a one-party Democratic stronghold, with Donald Trump winning only 38% of the vote in the 2016 General Election (Trump got 37% in New York, for comparison).
Many white and Asian voters rejected the ballot measure, which would've codified institutional racism against them. Cultural leftists will have to resort to judicial tyranny if they wish to implement this policy.
Kansas: Martin Luther King Boulevard Renamed
Establishment Democrats and Republicans both fight for the legacy of integrationist martyr, Martin Luther King, who has his own federal holiday. But with the people, the jury on King is still out.
In Kansas, a 10-mile long boulevard that was renamed after King by the government was recalled via democratic mandate after a group opposing it, "Save the Paseo," was able to collect enough signatures to force a referendum under local law.
While local activists sought to shut down opponents of MLK Boulevard by calling them racist, when voters got the chance to express themselves privately at the ballot box they made a powerful statement: 70% of Kansas voters elected to take King's name off the street.
Arizona: Democrat Voters Reject Sanctuary Cities
71% of Tucson voters - overwhelmingly democrats - said "No" to Proposition 205, which would've turned their city into a "sanctuary" for illegal aliens.
The ballot sought specifically to counteract SB1070, an Arizona state measure that enforces existing American immigration law.
While Democratic presidential contenders have big business friendly views on immigration, on the local level many Democratic politicians are retreating from "sanctuary city" policies. In Maryland, Democrat Marc Elrich announced that he was reversing his decree preventing local law enforcement from cooperating with ICE after public outcry.
Trump has disappointed many of his white working class supporters on immigration. In the 2018 midterms, some Democrats were able to attract many voters with left-wing economic views but who opposed immigration. The exact motivation of these voters isn't clear, since the Democrats are bad on immigration as well. It may be that they have accepted that neither party will protect American demographics or the border and they have decided that there's at least a chance Democrats will fight back against corporate tax-cuts and social spending cuts that have been the GOP's legislative priority since Trump took office.
Republicans Collapse in Virginia
ReplyDeleteDelegate Lee Carter, a communist endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America, shocked the nation when he defeated well-funded Republican incumbent Jackson Miller in a 2017 Virginia General Assembly race.
A well-funded campaign by Ian Lovejoy and the GOP to unseat Carter decided to fixate on petty personal gossip, like whether Carter has been paying enough child support, as well as his views on health care for all and worker's rights, rather than Carter's unpopular cultural-left views on race, sexuality and immigration.
Carter was re-elected with a comfortable margin, 53% to 46%.
When it came to House races, the focus was entirely on labeling Democrats "socialists." Voters punished the GOP in a state it recently held comfortably.
Kentucky: GOP Incumbent Governor's Humiliating Defeat
Big business Republican governor Mark Bevin in Kentucky - a state Donald Trump won by 30 points - centered his campaign around calling his opponent Andy Beshear a socialist.
Despite an 11th hour rally in the state by Trump to save Bevin, he has been narrowly defeated. Governor Bevin is not taking the loss well, and has been complaining of unspecified "irregularities," but just last July, polls showed Bevin was the least popular governor in America.
This is a bigger blow to Trump, who won in 2016 in part due to the understanding that he would fight against establishment Republicans like Bevin rather than campaign for them. Bevin's defeat is being interpreted by some as more of a rejection of another Wall Street Republican, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell, rather than Trump.
McConnell, who clearly does not want to implement Trump's 2016 campaign promises, has been tepid in combating the Democrats' frivolous impeachment inquiry against Trump. Bevin's defeat reveals that he may be in trouble when he is up for re-election in 2020.
Trump can and should support a primary challenger to unseat McConnell and do away with his noxious influence in Congress, but the president will more likely put his credibility on the line again (after the embarrassing defeats of Luther Strange, Roy Moore and now Bevin) to host another pep rally when McConnell's being voted on.
While demographics play a role in these results, including wealthy white liberals moving to red state suburbs, this is only being compounded by the Republican party's flagrant dismissal of its voter's demands in favor of its donors.
What people want is absolutely clear: left-wing economics, right-wing cultural policies and an isolationist foreign policy. Democrats and Republicans have agreed to disregard what voters want.
While we can label liberal economics and liberal social policies "right-wing" and "left-wing," the fact in the data is that the average American is against the whole neo-liberal consensus that combines both.
