Friends don't let friends read teleprompters while they are high.

Image result for trump eyes during Iran speech images
So I guess everyone is just going to ignore the elephant in the room.

Hello America! Your president either has a serious drug problem, or he is suffering from some sort of  medical issue that prevents him from being able to focus and read a few lines from a teleprompter. He could also have been heavily medicated by his handlers to keep him from going
off script. Whatever the case, it was very scary to watch him.

Honestly folks, this is not even funny anymore. Someone who cares about the man or his family should stage an intervention.

Did you see that speech to the country Wednesday night? If it was meant to assure us that things would be alright, it missed the mark.  After watching who we elected to be our 45th president, I was terrified for all of us. (Yes, even you MAGA cultists.) And I know that those of you with a functioning brain were terrified as well.

The man could not complete his words, his speech was slurred, and he was doing more sniffing than Al Pacino during the final scenes of Scarface.

The really sad thing about all of this is that the main stream media didn't even address it. Some of them (I see you Joe Scarborough) even said that the president's speech, by his standard, was actually "measured". Huh?!  But wait, it gets worse, Lindsey Graham called it one of the all time great speeches. Right up there with Reagans's tear down the wall address.

What are we doing here? Are we all going to just bury our heads in the sand together and pretend that there is not something seriously wrong with the man?

Thankfully, though,  it wasn't totally ignored. There were actually some real journalists who chose to write about it and call out the naked Emperor.

"In his address, the president threatened to invoke severe sanctions against Iran, but seemed amenable to deescalating the burgeoning military aggression. Still, the nine-minute address was packed with the president’s standard potpourri of falsehoods, lies, and bouts of incoherence. But the most striking aspect of his speech had less to do with what he said than how he said it. Which is to say, Trump was slurring and snorting through an address that was ostensibly designed to calm a nation on the brink of war.

Trump has never been a particularly graceful public speaker, but his mush-mouth sounded especially pronounced this morning. There was heaviness to his speech, as if he was struggling to talk through cottonmouth. He also had difficulty with the letter S, which he couldn’t pronounce without a drawn out hiss, as if he were a snake. One of the more flagrant examples entails the president mangling the pronunciation of “tolerated” while condemning terrorism.
At the 6:50 mark in the video embedded up top, the president stumbled while trying to brag about his “historic accompliments.” He did manage to pronounce “accomplishments” correctly a few seconds later." [Source]

I bet he would have had no problem saying Barack Obama. The man holds a permanent place rent free in his head.

Oh well. Another Hillary Clinton conspiracy theory bites the dust. Bill Barr’s Justice Department were forced to wind down their wacky, politically motivated Uranium One / Clinton Foundation investigation, after they were unable to find any wrongdoing whatsoever.

Shocking, I know. Why, next they’ll be telling us Hillary DIDN’T run a pedo ring out of a pizza parlor!

It is hard to square all of Trump’s doctors’ glowing assessments of his health with his abysmal, incoherent public speaking performances. Half the time, the dude can’t even read off a teleprompter. His brain appears to be broken. There are spiders running around inside.

    Source for this claim?

Best real wage growth in decades.
Very little wage growth for the lowest income workers. And what their is came because Democrats increased the minimum wage while being opposed by Trump and his magic cult.

    "Basically what she said"

    Everything she said was wrong.

It is unusual for growth to accelerate this late in an expansion. During a typical recovery, the economy grows at a rate between 3% and 4%, and the Obama administration predicted such a surge in its 2010 midsession review. It never came. The “recovery” of those years often felt much like a recession. GDP growth staggered along at 1.5% in Mr. Obama’s final six full quarters in office. …growth doubled to 3% during Mr. Trump’s first six full quarters. …the increase in job openings over Mr. Trump’s first 21 months has averaged an impressive 75,000 a month. Over Mr. Obama’s last 21 months in office, the number of job openings increased an average of 900 a month. …During Mr. Obama’s last 21 months, the number of employed Americans increased an average of 157,000 a month. Under Mr. Trump, the increase has accelerated to 214,000 a month, a 36% improvement. …In Mr. Obama’s final 21 months, weekly earnings rose an average of $1.31 a month. Under Mr. Trump, weekly earnings have increased an average of $1.84 cents a month: a 40% improvement that’s come mostly since tax reform took effect in January. Over that period, weekly earnings have grown an average of $2.31 a month, a 76% increase over Mr. Obama’s last 21 months. …The unemployment rate declined 13% during Mr. Obama’s last 21 months, but from there it has dropped another 23% during Mr. Trump’s tenure.

  41. From Steve Benen:
Donald Trump has now been in office for 35 full months – February 2017 through December 2019 – and in that time, the economy has created 6.69 million jobs. In the 35 months preceding Trump’s presidency – March 2014 to January 2017 – the economy created 7.96 million jobs.

As regular readers know, some have asked what would happen if we looked at the same numbers, but assigned the job totals from January 2017 to Trump, even though Obama was president for most of the month. On balance, I think that paints a misleading picture, but it doesn’t change the underlying dynamic: if we applied jobs from January 2017 to Trump and compared the last 36 months to the previous 36 months, job totals still slowed from 8.05 million to 6.94 million.

The White House, meanwhile, believes we should actually start the clock for Trump at November 2016 – the month of the Republican’s election – and apply the jobs created during the final months of the Obama era to the current Republican president. But that still doesn’t help: if we compare the last 38 months to the previous 38 months, job totals slowed from 8.42 million to 7.33 million.

Trump continues to tell the world that he’s overseeing the strongest domestic job growth in American history, which is plainly false. What’s more, the White House has not yet offered an explanation for why job growth has slowed since Trump took office.

I support higher minimum wages, but these laws have a very minor effect on overall wage growth as very few people work for minimum wage. Jobs at that level are mostly for teenagers or others who aren't supporting themselves. What really helps people in lower brackets is real jobs that pay more than $20/hour.

Real world: Virtually none of these jobs bring in less revenue to the business owner than $15/hr. The idea that they can’t pay that is ludicrous — employers did pay comparable wages back in the ‘60s and ‘70s, in the dollars of that era, but then the minimum wage was allowed to shrink, relative to inflation.

Employers may bitch and moan, but this was never a question of “can’t pay”; it’s a question of “don’t want to pay.”

And it’s a fantasy that there is some been some wave of job losses in response to minimum wage hikes, as wingnuts threatened. That hasn’t materialized.

  61. From Yahoo Finance.....

The Potential Downsides of an Increased Minimum Wage
A higher minimum wage could have negative repercussions for both workers and employers, according to the CBO analysis. The CBO estimated that 1.3 million Americans could lose their jobs if a wage hike were enacted, although some economists believe the actual number would be much lower.

The CBO also said that an increase in the minimum wage would “reduce business income and raise prices” as companies pass on the higher costs of labor to consumers. In addition, it could slightly reduce the U.S.’s total output.

Some Research Disputes the CBO Findings
Although the CBO predicts that raising the minimum wage would have negative effects on employment, some research contradicts these findings. A 2019 study by UC Berkeley’s Center on Wage and Employment Dynamics looked at sub-state wage variations that would echo what would happen if the minimum wage moved closer to the median wage across the U.S.

According to a press release, the study “did not detect adverse effects on employment, weeks worked or weekly hours among workers with a high school degree or less.”

“The results of our research show that we can raise pay to $15, even in low-cost states,” said Anna Godoey, one of the study authors, in the press release. “The data show that the minimum wage has positive effects, especially in areas where the highest proportion of workers received minimum wage increases. We also found reduced household and child poverty in such counties.”

Texas just became the first state to shut the door on refugees

The Democratic presidential candidate should pledge to send ALL the refugees to Texas for his/her entire administration, to make up for that state having dodged their humanitarian obligations in this way.

Hey, the Dem candidate in 2020 will get zero of Texas’ electoral votes, so I mean ... fuck ‘em. Why not teach them a lesson?

“And then we went and imported 50 million immigrants.”

The minimum wage isn’t based on supply and demand.

The presence of immigrants didn’t make the minimum wage stagnate. Republicans CHOSE to make that happen. They refused to approve annual increases along with increases in the cost of living. That was a matter of (elitist) ideology, not “market forces.”

Also, supply of jobs has, in fact, kept pace with demand. For about the billionth time, WE ARE AT FULL EMPLOYMENT. There aren’t hordes of idle people sitting around wishing they could find work because there aren’t enough jobs. There are many reasons why low-end jobs don’t pay a living wage in America. “Too many immigrants” isn’t one of them.

This is just a lie that racists have learned to hide behind, because it sounds better than admitting they want to keep brown people out because they are brown.

Virtually none of these jobs bring in less revenue to the business owner than $15/hr.

Oh look, a retard who thinks VALUE ADDED equals REVENUE.  He's never heard of "rent" and "utilities" and "raw materials" and "maintenance", and heaven forbid, "taxes".

The idea that they can’t pay that is ludicrous

The idea that a business operating on a 2% margin can just absorb a 50% wage hike is ludicrous.  Raise your prices?  Your customers go elsewhere.  They may not be ABLE to raise prices if they are part of their franchise agreement.

“The idea that a business operating on a 2% margin can just absorb a 50% wage hike is ludicrous.”

The idea that large numbers of businesses actually fall into this category is another wingnut lie. Much like the wingnut lie about the “huge” numbers of family-owned businesses allegedly “destroyed” by having to pay estate tax. (Only about 2000 estates in America are even big enough to be subject to estate tax and no businesses are being destroyed.)

But if your business really does fall into this category, if you are making 2% margins while paying a large percentage of your employees a slave wage that has to be topped up by taxpayer-funded welfare so they can survive? Then you are running an unethical, exploitive business! It does not deserve to survive and should fail.

Buh-bye. Your scam is over. Time to find a real job, like the wingnuts are always saying to the rest of us.

  85. "The presence of immigrants didn’t make the minimum wage stagnate. Republicans CHOSE to make that happen."

No one said immigrants are the reason the minimum wage stagnated, the reality is that immigrants are the reason everyone's wages have stagnated and wealth inequality has grown over the past half century.

After the last period of mass immigration in the early 20th century, immigration was virtually halted in the mid-1920s, after which Americans experienced strong wage growth for nearly 50 years.

The steady increase in the labor supply after the 1965 immigration act has caused wages to stagnate since the early 70's:

    http://www.alternativeinsight.com/productivity-and-real-wages.jpg

The minimum wage has almost nothing to do with this. In 2017, there were 138.9 million employed people in the US, of which 542,000 made minimum wage, or less than 1% of all workers.

The idea that expanding the labor force by 50 million people has not had an effect on what employers have to pay is ludicrous. It is a lie told to serve the interests of power.

Republicans have been behind this to serve the interests of business, who have an insatiable appetite for cheaper labor. Democrats have pushed this because third world immigrants are a reliable source of votes.

Both parties have pursued policies that have worsened the quality of life of the majority of Americans in their own pursuit of power.

Trump is the first President to address this, and some of the things he has done have resulted in some minor improvement in wages, particularly those at the lower end of the earning scale. However he has been largely corrupted by the traditional GOP establishment he was elected to resist. Here's an interview from two days ago where Laura Ingraham holds his feet to the fire over this betrayal:

    https://twitter.com/i/status/1215848646190616577

All of the Democratic primary hopefuls are falling all over themselves in promising who will open the flood gates to more immigrants if elected. Further increasing immigration will reverse the modest gains seen over the past few years and further erode the quality of life for the vast majority of Americans, not just the lowest earners.

We need a moratorium on mass immigration if we want to do something real about the growing wealth inequality in America.

America’s solid job creation continued in December but gains in for 2019 were the lowest in eight years, according to the closely-watched government report released Friday.

After a decade of rising employment, hiring last year slowed notably from the brisk pace seen in 2018: With 2.1 million jobs created, that made 2019 the weakest year since 2011, according to the Labor Department data.

Why so stingy? Why not raise it to $100/hr?

You can't legislate wealth. Employers pay what they have to in order to reap the economic benefit of your labor.

Raising the minimum wage for an expanding labor pool just means more people will not be able to find employment.

If the labor supply is infinite, they don't have to pay you shit.

If the labor supply is finite, employers have to compete for available workers by raising wages.

Wage growth should track productivity growth. The presence of an ever-expanding labor pool allows employers to keep gains in productivity as profits instead of paying workers for their increased output.

Because, unlike the proven to be workable in case after case $15/hr., that would make no sense, and you're only proposing it to make all minimum wage increases look damaging to businesses, which they are not, as proven again and again when states have raised the minimum wage and haven't suffered ill-effects when compared to neighboring states who did not.

No, I am not. I am proposing it to show how it actually does eliminate jobs. I support raising the minimum wage reasonably, and punishing employers who pay people less than the minimum wage.

But that's not the point. The point is that the minimum wage has a very small effect on overall wages, and if you want to see wages rise, you need to put an end to mass immigration.

No, most employers pay as little as they can get away with. This is especially true since corporations and conservative rich people successfully broke most of the unions.

Raising the minimum wage for an expanding labor pool just means more people will not be able to find employment.

False: This has been disproven over and over again.
"Raising the federal minimum wage will also stimulate consumer spending, help businesses' bottom lines, and grow the economy. A modest increase would improve worker productivity, and reduce employee turnover and absenteeism. It would also boost the overall economy by generating increased consumer demand.
