If you watched Mr. trump's daily propaganda "Dear Leader" hour yesterday, you were treated to quite a show.
I think it's safe to say, that given all that's at stake, yesterday's performance was a new low. And when it comes to trump that's saying something. There doesn't seem to be any bottom with this guy.
Mr. trump spent most of his presser bragging about his accomplishments, bashing the governors of two of the states hardest hit by the virus, bashing the free press, bragging about the ratings of the press conferences (which is silly, because most Americans tune in, not because of trump, but to know just what it is their government is doing to stop this pandemic), and making racist and condescending remarks to a black journalist who was just trying to do her job. It was a sad and pathetic display that was not befitting of the office he holds. But it gets worse. Incredibly, Mr. trump suggested that the healthcare workers, and those involved with hospitals in New York might actually be stealing supplies.
"Donald Trump has accused hospital workers in New York of stealing and possibly selling face masks “out the back door” during an astounding press conference on Sunday evening.
Standing in the White House’s Rose Garden the president asked reporters to look into the supposed illegal activity but provided no evidence to back up his claims aside from increased demand for supplies from hospitals swamped by the coronavirus pandemic.
“For years [suppliers] have been delivering ten to twenty thousand masks. OK, it’s a New York hospital and it’s packed all the time but how do you go from ten to twenty thousand to 300,000?”
“Something’s going on and you ought to look into it as reporters.
Where are the masks going? Are they going out the back door? And we. have that in a lot of different places so somebody should probably look into that because I just don’t see from a practical standpoint how that’s possible.”' [Source]
If you are a healthcare worker in New York, going to work everyday, and risking your own life to save the sick dying, that could not have sit well with you to hear those words coming from the president of the United States. And yet he said it.
The president also declared that 2 million people could die, and keeping coronavirus deaths to 100,000 or less would be a "good job". Remember when he said that there were only 15 or so people with coronavirus in the United States, and that it would be down to zero, soon? I do.
Now he declares that were it not for his leadership two million people would have died.
This, my friends, in the grifter game is called the switch. And no one is better at this game than Donald J. trump.
*Pic from Mother Jones.
“The president also declared that 2 million people could die, and keeping coronavirus deaths to 100,000 or less would be a ‘good job.’”
ReplyDeleteThis is an outrageous lie.
The 2 million figure is at the low end of how many would have died if the government had done absolutely nothing to curb transmission and just let everyone get sick. So 2 million wouldn’t be an example of Trump doing a bad job; it would be an example of Trump doing NO job. He wants credit for simply showing up to work at all!
It’s simply unbelievable that he’s now going to try to convince everyone that he’s turned in a stellar performance in fighting the virus.
I suspect he’ll soon find that that won’t wash with the American public. And so he’ll be forced to admit that things have, in fact, gone terribly wrong, and he’ll move back to familiar territory: blaming it all on Democrats, Obama, the Chinese, solar flares, leap year, the cancellation of his favorite TV show ...
Meanwhile, Trump's Republican lackeys are pursuing their lawsuit to overturn Obama Care with his blessing. What a lovey bunch they are, and Trump is the liveliest.

ReplyDeleteAll this whining and hysterical attacks on literally everything Donald Trump says or does is all because certain folks can't handle the fact that a white man is President again, and he has done a much better job at it than his blah predecessor did.
This irrational hatred comes from deep racial resentment against white people, for whom Trump functions as a symbol and focal point for anti-white animus.
This sick need to hate overrides everything else, even during a national crisis that requires everyone come together.
Leftism is the manifestation of the severe mental disorders of weak and amoral people.

It might have occurred to a cheap, amoral profiteer like... Donald Trump, but who else?

Racism and classism are both forms of mind control. These work on people because people have minds; but SARS-CoV-2 is a virus; it has no mind. Therefore mind control doesn't work on a virus. Skin tint and wallet thickness don't matter to the virus. To it, we're all tasty.
ReplyDeleteCovid-19 is immune to mind control like race, class, tribe, religion, and politics. To fight it on equal terms, we must free our minds from those and other forms of mind control.

ReplyDeleteAnd for a little perspective on the happy talking PR bullshit Fergus has fallen back to about the probable consequences of this pandemic (h/t: Comrade Misfit):

“200,000 dead in the epidemic is, roughly, the American death toll in World War I, the Vietnam War and the Korean War combined.”
ReplyDeleteSouth Korea is what a good job looks like. Their current death toll is 158. Now, the epidemic isn’t over there, but based on the current trajectory, they will probably ultimately not end up with more than twice the current number of deaths. So let’s go with that: 316 deaths.
Since the US population is roughly six times South Korea’s, scale that up by a factor of six to get a US equivalent. So a “good job” would be 1,800 US deaths.
Ergo, the predicted 100,000-200,000 US deaths is not a good job. That’s a “Trump massively fucked up” job.

“And what happened to the zika virus that had every olympian scared to death?”
ReplyDeleteIt burned itself out. In the countries where there was a Zika epidemic, everyone got it, so eventually, it couldn’t infect any more people. Okay, not everyone, but a majority of the population — enough to result in “herd immunity.”
Unfortunately, this meant a lot of pregnant women in Latin America gave birth to retarded babies with shrunken heads, which is the major negative effect of Zika.
Thankfully for us, Zika is mosquito-borne, so a huge epidemic of that particular disease can’t happen in the temperate climate of the US.

I read that article, then checked out the comment section. Like this site and so many others, there is a stark commonalities: pro-Donald Trump people flooding the section.
Now, you would think that, with their chosen person in office, they'd be content. When an article like the one mike from Iowa linked to, like the daily postings by Field, people with common sense whose chosen candidate is now running the country would scan the article or post, maybe chuckle and shake their heads, and keep it moving.
Why take the time to, most often at length over a series of comments and replies, take time out to attempt to refute everything said in the article, post and comment section?.. what a colossal waste of energy. Yet here they are every day committing time and effort growling and biting at folks like rabid dogs - internally poisoned and growing ever more insane.
Why?
Perhaps it's because the economy is running smoothly just like Trump said it would be. Maybe because all the corporations and their CEOs who fled to other countries to make their goods, have returned to the U.S. Maybe it's because Mexico, as promised paid for that border wall.
Maybe it's because the U.S. has, as promised, returned to its, immediately post WWII "greatness:" when the country was so secure after winning that monumental war that the power elite's mediums in Congress allowed a global black market entity to be established that was allowed to spy on every and anyone in the world - including in the U.S. (now THAT'S what winners do - yeah?!). That greatness that saw certain citizens become SO secure that they howled in pain, then turned and killed people who didn't look like them --- just because those people, who also fought in that monumental war, felt they were U.S. citizens, too.
Maybe it's because the infrastructure, as promised, is well on its way to being built - and with it millions of jobs with actual livable wages became readily available.
Oh wait, exactly NONE of this is true.
Maybe you're rabid because you've been bitten by a class of people who actively and successfully poisoned you. Maybe it's because you thought a governmental system alleged to be built on "justice" is one you now fully understand is built on, "just us" - and NONE of you are part that us.
So, what do you do? Like good little pawns, you turn and attempt to attack those people you're told to believe are beneath you. You know who "those people" are: the descendants of those people who your so-called forefathers admitted they appropriated what is called, the Constitution from - the same people who you were told to believe are so primitive they need your forefathers and now you to try to teach to be "civil."... right? The same primitive people so resistant to your efforts at theft, your ancestors needed to use bioweapons on to steal their land. Those primitive people whose cities your ancestors razed and then built their shanty constructs atop; those cities called, NYC and Boston and Chicago and St. Louis and New Orleans and --- well, hopefully you catch the drift.
Maybe it's best to stop wasting your energy on people who did, if matters were fair, would do you no harm; the ancestors of the people your ancestors said were peaceful and welcoming, who appeared to live a life in a paradise.
Maybe you're rabid because you know it's you who turned paradise into the present hell in which you reside --- and, like rabid animals, continue to perpetuate.
The damn fool is still accusing hospital staff, who at this point are the closest thing we have to honest to gawd heroes trying to keep us all from being killed, of selling PPE on the black market.
ReplyDeleteHospital staff are being infected and dying for lack of PPE, you despicable ignorant fuck, while trying to save the lives of ungrateful wastes of protoplasm like you.

Then please go on a nice long golf outing to one of your shitty properties and don't come back until the window of opportunity for you to harm ordinary lives by fucking up pandemic response policy has passed.

"Prove it, liar."
ReplyDeleteThey can't. They are engaging in what Orwell called "duckspeak":
excerpt from 1984, Appendix, The Principles of Newspeak, page 241-251:
...What was required, above all for political purposes, was short clipped words of unmistakable meaning which could be uttered rapidly and which roused the minimum of echoes in the speaker’s mind. The words of the B vocabulary even gained in force from the fact that nearly all of them were very much alike. Almost invariably these words — goodthink, Minipax, prolefeed, sexcrime, joycamp, Ingsoc, bellyfeel, thinkpol, and countless others — were words of two or three syllables, with the stress distributed equally between the first syllable and the last. The use of them encouraged a gabbling style of speech, at once staccato and monotonous. And this was exactly what was aimed at. The intention was to make speech, and especially speech on any subject not ideologically neutral, as nearly as possible independent of consciousness. For the purposes of everyday life it was no doubt necessary, or sometimes necessary, to reflect before speaking, but a Party member called upon to make a political or ethical judgement should be able to spray forth the correct opinions as automatically as a machine gun spraying forth bullets. His training fitted him to do this, the language gave him an almost foolproof instrument, and the texture of the words, with their harsh sound and a certain wilful ugliness which was in accord with the spirit of Ingsoc, assisted the process still further.
So did the fact of having very few words to choose from. Relative to our own, the Newspeak vocabulary was tiny, and new ways of reducing it were constantly being devised. Newspeak, indeed, differed from most all other languages in that its vocabulary grew smaller instead of larger every year. Each reduction was a gain, since the smaller the area of choice, the smaller the temptation to take thought. Ultimately it was hoped to make articulate speech issue from the larynx without involving the higher brain centres at all. This aim was frankly admitted in the Newspeak word duckspeak, meaning "to quack like a duck". Like various other words in the B vocabulary, duckspeak was ambivalent in meaning. Provided that the opinions which were quacked out were orthodox ones, it implied nothing but praise, and when the Times referred to one of the orators of the Party as a doubleplusgood duckspeaker it was paying a warm and valued compliment.

Actually, it's legit.
ReplyDeleteWe'll find out after fact checkers get through with it. You have to know it will certainly be fact checked, because it rings hollow.
As the pandemic begins to rage through Trump country, all of those rural hospitals that have closed down recently are going to become an issue.

It's kind or Orwellian for Doug to attempt to invert reality by ascribing Leftist Newspeak to people committed to resisting it.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure he is completely unaware just how ass-backwards he sees the world.
What happens to stoopid fucking wingnut putzes who spend time harrassing transgenders instead of governing.... https://www.rawstory.com/2020/03/major-earthquake-strikes-north-of-boise-in-idaho-measuring-6-5-on-the-richter-scale/
ReplyDeleteEver notice wingnuts claim leftists are liars, but never provide any proof. And drumpf lies every time he moves his lips and dumbfucking wasicu wasteys lap up every lie he tells as gospel.
"South Korea is what a good job looks like. Their current death toll is 158. Now, the epidemic isn’t over there, but based on the current trajectory, they will probably ultimately not end up with more than twice the current number of deaths. So let’s go with that: 316 deaths."
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of South Korea, did you know that Seoul, SK has 38 million people? So says Mr. trump. Just one of many lies he told at a presser recently.
BTW, the real number is closer to 9 million people.
But he lies so much that whoppers like this are barely noticed.
Is this the man we want leading us through a national crisis?
Rhetorical question. Of course it isn't.
"Just one of many lies he told at a presser recently."
ReplyDeleteWhenever someone gets a number wrong, it's a LIE.
BTW, the real number is closer to 50 states.
“Whenever someone gets a number wrong, it's a LIE.”
ReplyDeleteWhen you occasionally get facts wrong, they might be errors.
When every fact that comes out of your mouth is wrong — and wrong in a way that benefits you — they’re lies.
They asked Chairman Trump today about the shortages of masks. Is answer was if you don't have a mask, you can use a scarf, scarf's are good, I like scarfs. I fell out of my chair laughing. Then he came back and said The CDC told everyone scarfs can be used. I went on The CDC website, there was nothing mentioned about a scarf. Now you are going to see a bunch of people wearing MAGA Hats, with a scarf over their face instead of a mask.
ReplyDeleteA regular cotton tee shirt provides 70% of the benefit of an N95 mask.
ReplyDeleteTo All You Trolls out there in America Land:
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you know now that the pandemic is not a hoax. Your lying leader finally told the truth today. He said it's going to get really, really bad. Maybe he should have spent a little time preparing for this instead of playing so much golf. And maybe he should take a leadership role tomorrow, so states don't have to bid against each other to buy ventilators.

Funny that. Rather than take a sec to think, you know, everything he said about the state of the state is irrefutably true, you decided to reply with banal quotes from conquest mouthpieces past that act only to ----- "catapult the propaganda" (oh wait, did a "leftist" say that, too?) as if you're going to change the mind of anyone here who fails to cognate in the manner you do.
How delusional you must be to believe you have any sort of power to change someone's mind when you are rife with the disease of confirmation bias.
But that delusion is a sign: rabid animals are dangers to themselves as much as they are to any living being with which they come in contact as they are incapable of recognizing when they should go away.
Whether he lies all of the damn time or is just a blithering idiot is immaterial in the face of the fact that he is manifestly not doing his damn job.

And I'm not here to change anyone's mind, just here to call a spade a spade.

I am having a problem understanding where you are coming from, Trollio. It seems to me that your faith in Trump has caused you to adopt a massive conspiracy theory that involves ninety-nine percent of the scientific community, all the experts in the medical field, all the reporters in the media, all Democrats, and some Republicans who don't support Trump. Apparently you think that all of the above are involved in a giant conspiracy to discredit him and prevent him from being elected again in November.
In other words, they are all "out to get him." Never mind that Trump's deliberate refusal to take the looming pandemic seriously has brought us to our current situation. Never mind that our national response is in shambles. Never mind that no one at the federal level is coordinating anything. FEMA his not doing their job; instead they are bidding against state governors to buy ventilators. FEMA should be buying them and dispensing them where needed. That's their job.
Never mind that Trump declared that the states should handle everything; that he refused to take a leadership role to call for people to stay at home. Instead he down played the serious of the threat. How you can ignore all Trump's failures and still support him is beyond the understanding of most intelligent people. Thousand of people are dying needlessly because of Trump's failures.
Here's one more thing for you to think about: My daughter and I are in one group of many around the country who are sewing masks for hospital staff because they don't have enough masks. Today is more than three months since Trump was briefed about the potential pandemic. WTF?
"In other words, they are all "out to get him." Never mind that Trump's deliberate refusal to take the looming pandemic seriously has brought us to our current situation."
ReplyDelete1. They are all to get him, and therefore do not present information to help the situation, only to hurt Trump.
2. Trump's response is not why we have a pandemic. Yes, it could have been quicker, but he was already being attacked for the measures he was taking early on. Objectively, the US is hitting this harder and more competently than anywhere else and doing about as well as can be expected of a highly populated, geographically large, culturally diverse, and highly mobile country.
I don't have faith in Trump to be the man to solve all of America's problems. He's a flawed man who is in his position because of a deeply flawed system that has ignored the interests of the vast majority of the American people for decades.
I'm disappointed in the he way he has been largely co-opted by the establishment GOP. But instead of criticizing him on substance, his political opponents and their media have attacked him absurdly on made-up nonsense.
I support Trump because he is only vector available to break the corrupt status quo. The proof of this how viciously the permanent government and the establishment media have attacked him since day one. The hyperbolic hysteria over his presidency is indicative of the deep level of manipulation being applied to the American people in service to a hostile and rapacious elite. I will support anyone who defends the interests of Americans against the swine who have pillaged this country, however incrementally and incompetently they do it. Everyone else on the scene is a creature of the machine.

Thank you for giving me an intelligent reply instead of simply insulting me as many here do. You mention the corrupt status quo and I agree that there is some corruption in the system. However if you follow Trump's history, you will find that he wallows in corruption, from the way he treats others, his business scams, and his refusal to pay his legitimate bills. There is a public record of his dishonesty, his many failed business, his using charity donations as his personal slush fund. He has been sued more than 300 times for non payment of debts by workers, small business owners, students from "Trump's University", and even attorneys who have represented in some of the many law suits against him. He is dishonest and corrupt in everything he does.
The proof of this is how viciously the permanent government and the establishment media have attacked him since day one.

There are reasons why the "permanent government and the established media" have attacked Trump. From the time he began his campaign, he has been stoking bigotry against Mexicans, Muslims, immigrants of color, liberals, reporters who question him - mostly women, and everyone else that dares to question him or disagree with him. Furthermore, he has no manners, no class, and no human decency. Empathy is just a word to Trump - one he doesn't understand.
His handling of the pandemic is appalling. All I can say is, God help us all.
Trump is a typically ethically-challenged business man. He got rich by screwing other ethically-challenged business men.
ReplyDeleteEveryone else in the game has gotten rich off of abusing the power of their office. They got rich by screwing America.

No, Trump got rich by inheriting his father's money. Trump has squandered a great deal of the money in failed business ventures. If you doubt this Google his record.
No, Your statement that "Everyone else in the game has gotten rich off of abusing the power of their office" is simply not true. There a thousands of people who have served the public and have not "gotten rich." This is one of the Republicans' big lies. If you doubt this, please name someone besides Trump and Mitch McConnell who has gotten rich by screwing America.
BIDEN 2020!!
