Having seen even more advertisers flee Twitter after Elon fired off antisemitic comments on the social media platform, and after ads were discovered to be running alongside Nazi tweets, he is now attempting to rehabilitate his image via a transparently fake act of contrition: a photo-op visit to Auschwitz.

The success of this PR tactic will depend on whether he can manage to go more than an hour without making a Holocaust joke.

Nancy Mace just bent the knee and endorsed Trump. Extra-pathetic, after previously portraying herself as the sane, normal, rational Republican, not like those OTHER lunatics.

But here she is, slipping into a straitjacket and getting ready to parrot back whatever delusional word salad Trump has just uttered.

They’re all garbage. The entire Republican Party.

  12. Just what is a sane, normal and rational republican? Probably not Nancy Mace, the poor woman forced to wear a Tee-shirt telling us all that she is an adultress. You can scarcely blame republicans for being frightened of Trump. One word and he can destroy their careers. I guess just having the nerve to stand up to the monster gives a republican some cover. Brad Kinzinger? Chris Christie? Most of the good republicans died a long time ago.

It seems like it would be better to just kick Turkey and Hungary out of NATO? I get the impression Turkey’s government doesn’t much care whether Russia invades Europe, while Hungary’s government actively wants it to happen.

  84. The DC circuit finally pulled their thumbs out of their butts (h/t: Show Me Progress):

We have balanced former President Trump’s asserted interests in executive immunity against the vital public interests that favor allowing this prosecution to proceed. We conclude that “[c]oncerns of public policy, especially as illuminated by our history and the structure of our government” compel the rejection of his claim of immunity in this case. See Fitzgerald, 457 U.S. at 747–48. We also have considered his contention that he is entitled to categorical immunity from criminal liability for any assertedly “official” action that he took as President — a contention that is unsupported by precedent, history or the text and structure of the Constitution. Finally, we are unpersuaded by his argument that this prosecution is barred by “double jeopardy principles.” Accordingly, the order of the district court is AFFIRMED. [….]

    So ordered.

So he got what he wanted: a long delay that will get even longer with en banc appeals and appeals to the goddamn supremes, who could have cut this all short and not denied Jack Smith when he asked them to just take the case because they were going to get it anyway no matter what. That makes them complicit in the goddamn delay strategy unless they quickly decide to refuse to hear the case and thus only add another month to the delay.

Federal Judge Amit Mehta has rejected former Trump aide Peter Navarro’s bid for release pending appeal of his criminal contempt conviction.

Said Mehta: “Defendant’s cynical, self-serving claim of political bias poses no question at all, let alone a ‘substantial’ one.”

I’m pretty disgusted at the actions of special prosecutor Robert Hur. It’s very evident that when he found he couldn’t prosecute Biden for withholding classified documents, because Biden’s actions didn’t rise to the level of criminality, Hur got scared that his fellow Republicans would ostracize him for failing to “deliver” for them. So he decided to verbally trash Biden using Trump’s (and Nikki Haley’s) attack lines about his alleged senility instead, as compensation.

This is highly unprofessional behavior for a prosecutor.

I don’t know why Merrick Garland felt the need to appoint a Republican to handle this matter anyway. It’s not like it was ever going to make Republicans respect the outcome. They were always going to declare the investigation biased and rigged in Biden’s favor, unless it resulted in his conviction and execution for treason.

“Shorter Hur: It worked when Comey did it...”

Hur’s unnecessary, sneery, off-topic commentary on Biden was worse than what Comey said about Clinton, when each announced the conclusion of his investigation that no charges were warranted.

The United States Supreme Court absolutely destroyed the Colorado case against Trump. The harshest and most pointed questioning from the bench came from two of the most liberal justices. If it isn't a 7-2 or 8-1 decision putting Trump back on the ballot, it'd be a surprise

  97. The framers of the constitution never envisioned a president inciting an insurrection, or a political party so batshit insane as to refuse to use the mechanism they included for removing a bad president right after being attacked by a mob sent by said president to stop the transfer of power.
Y'all are doing your damnedest to prove Putin right when he claims that democracies are too chaotic and unwieldy to function properly.
And calling for a second civil war all the while.
Well, here's your damn civil war: It now falls to us, the sane majority, to prove y'all wrong at the ballot box.
Thank your lucky stars that it isn't a shooting war, as the US military would put y'all down in a week.
