"The one answer I will not settle for is the idea that this challenge is too big and too difficult to meet.”

I thought about blogging about President Obama's oval office address and his well scripted talk with the A-merry-can people. I thought about blogging about the despicable Governor of Arizona, Jan Brewer, who- along with other despicable acts- refuses to go along with her state's Clemency Board and allow a wrongfully convicted man (my opinion) to be freed after 28 years in prison.

I thought about blogging about them, but I can't; not after reading the following story:

"At 11:08 a.m. yesterday, 2-year-old Terrence Webster died from a bullet wound to his head.
"He died on his own, thank God for that," said Robin Powell, Webster's maternal grandmother, who had sat vigil by the Chester tot's bedside. "We wouldn't have ever been able to make the decision to take his tiny body off of life support."

While grateful that his soul will rest in peace, Powell is enraged that a killer stole his life away before he had a chance to live it.

Webster was returning home with his parents, Tisheta Green, 25, and Thomas Webster, 26, and his 4-year-old brother, Thomas "T.J." Webster Jr., to their apartment in a public-housing development on 9th Street about 2:30 a.m. Sunday when a gunman ambushed the family.
Powell said that the four were able to escape gunfire outside of the home and get inside, but when the unidentified gunman shot two bullets through the door, one of them struck Thomas Webster in the hand and then hit Terrence in the head.

The other bullet struck Green in her left leg, police and family said. Friends said that Green didn't know she was shot until after she arrived at the hospital, cradling her bleeding son in her arms.

The only member of the family to escape physically unharmed was T.J., Powell said.
More than a dozen friends and relatives gathered in Powell's Brookhaven home yesterday evening to mourn Terrence, lovingly known as "Lil' Pop" because of his affection for Pop-Tarts. "He was bright," Powell said. "He was sunshine."

As the Rev. Calvin Williams led the group in prayer in a steamy living room with the curtains closed, Powell sobbed into the leg where her daughter had been shot. Green herself said nothing, as she lay on the couch, overcome with anguish and pain.

It's been less than two months since Powell mourned the death of her own son, Thomas Lee "Bear-Bear" Green Jr., 23, who was shot and killed on April 17. His alleged killer, 16-year-old Omar Rashad Hooks, has been arrested. Police have not yet released a motive in that slaying.
"We just did this," Powell said. "It ain't even been two months and I'm grieving again. Our family is really close. We just don't live the way our children died."

Powell said that T.J., Terrence's brother, has been traumatized by what he witnessed.
"He's scared to death of the dark and loud noises now," she said."

"Bear-Bear", huh? ....OK, so we are killing two year old children now? I was going to write some things about this story as well, but I changed my mind. Maybe sometimes "silence is golden."

And,well, maybe not.........let me close with this:

The president was eloquently speaking about making the Gulf and the people who work there whole again. He spoke about all kinds of commissions and blue ribbon panels who will be made up of some of the country's finest minds to work on the problem. That's great. But long after the Gulf is cleaned up and BP has reorganized, (thanks to a bankruptcy judge) the next Terrence Webster will be buried, and we will all be just as outraged at his death. Just don't expect any blue ribbon commissions or oval office addresses. As is the case with this two year old victim, the President won't even know he existed.

“Today, as we look to the gulf, we see an entire way of life being threatened by a menacing cloud of black crude,”

Oh the irony of it all.

I have the utmost sympathy for the family that lost their 2 year old promise of the future due to the rabid attack of a Street Pirate on 9th Street. This fool who did it deserves the "Secondary Death Penalty" as he issued the "Instigating D.P.".

Welcome to the "Bloody Summer of 2010". Certain people who walk around with a certain consciousness have no respect for the rights of others nor JUSTICE.

They see an opportunity to possession something of value standing in front of them. They will shoot dead any living being that stands in their way of their possession of this good.

In Metro Atlanta an elderly couple that had been selling candy in an apartment complex were robbed at gun point with 4 shots fired as they tried to escape from the clutches of the Street Pirates.

Tell me, Filled Negro - what process break down is occurring in which otherwise upstanding MEN who are in development are turned into STREET PIRATES, their train side tracked into the darkside at such an early age.

I finally viewed the Farrakhan interview on TV One from this past weekend. According to him it is THE WHITE ENEMY who is causing us to kill ourselves because we hate each other.

Do YOU have the urge to kill another? I don't. Farrakhan can't be right on this one.

My family heritage fully qualifies me as having "Slave Blood" - for those who accept this vernacular.

  2. I know this is blasphemy in the community to say this, but Obama dosen't give a hot daymn about the community. Did ya'll get the memo with the "Git Cousin Pookie off the couch" speech? Maybe it was that bullshit apology to that white cop from Boston? Even though he married into the community, I don't think his loyalty lies there. If the whites hate him anyway, he might as well do the right thing. If a man can't take care of his own....

The death of the baby is tragic. I could say so many things about this, but it's all been said in a far more eloquent way elsewhere.

I know it's wrong to think this, especially after the learning about that framed guy in AZ and the race and poverty stats, but there's a death penalty for a reason. If a 16 year old can't understand that killing (aside from true self defense) is wrong, then give him the prune juice. Why should our communities be war zones? Didn't that baby have a right to live?

The grandma of the two year old also lost a son recently. This poor family...

Sometimes, running away from your problems works.

Finally, Forgive me, my more genteel commenter, but Jan Brewer is a pigment deprived dried up cunt.

    STTBB:

Obama's JOB is NOT TO micro-manage at the community level.

This is what the OTHER TENTACLES of the machine that he now sits atop of are supposed to do.

I can't blame Obama for the murder of this 2 year old little boy. There was a dysfunctional community that produced a murderous street pirate.

Instigating Death Penalty - the initial "ultimate civil rights violation" called MURDER.

Secondary Death Penalty - when the public, via its justice system state clearly that they will not tolerate anyone who executes death absent a process by which the facts are weighed by the network of individuals who are tasked to follow the laws in the evaluation of the worthiness of this killer's continued existence.

  6. CF what you've said hits the nail on the head brother. I feel you. It isn't the Presidents' job to micromanage the community. And I do feel you on the secondary death penalty but since I am so damned anti authoritarian, I'd like the people in the community to deal with the street pirates. This is why a well armed population is needed.

These street pirate assholes don't register their guns but yet law abiding citizens are subject to these 'gun austerity measures'? Bullshit just bullshit.

You kept it cool today; I admire that. I also saw the comments you made on DV's blog and appreciate your willingness to call out seenew for his leftist tripe trying to parade as truth lol!

Damn, I agree with Feedback on this one.

"Obama's JOB is NOT TO micro-manage at the community level."

It's sad, but these things don't happen in a vacuum. The folks who sit here and blog and comment about about the issues the confront out people do so from a baseline, I'd assume, of being educated, of making correct decisions and hard choices.

Some of us make the wrong one.

We cut up in class, only to pay for it when we don't get a high school diploma, making the chance to better yourself and reach the middle class via college a near impossibility. Then we make the mistake of getting or getting someone else pregnant, or choosing to take the way of drugs and crime, either willfully or because the options are limited. Once that choice is made, it is possible and likely that death will be the end result.

We sometimes think that having white folks living among us, and sharing schools with us will somehow shield us from the willful disregard that some of US feel towards our brothers and sisters in the black community. If we only demanded the same standards, to the same degree, that we demand from white folks on so many inconsequential matters, we would probably be OK.

Or maybe it's just that much more sad when it's a child that dies. It's like we all just failed a little bit.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Do you have reading comprehension skills, Confused Feedback?

Where did you get the idea that I said Obama WAS to micromanage the community or that I blamed him for this child's death? I was responding to the content of Field's post, confused one. Do you have some Rush Limpballs inspired one track self destructive, self loathing, frame of mind?

And yes, get over it, I'll say it again. Everyone else is a priority over HIS OWN people. His actions speak volumes.

That explanation secondary/ primary death penalty is lame. It trivializes death, especially murder. The child was murdered. The criminal who committed the crime should be removed from the land of the living. Don't attempt to sound intelligent. It's humorous to those of us who really are.

Don't like my tone? Tough. I'm not particularly friendly to the confused, self-loathing or whites who pretend to black to lick the boots of their elite puppet masters.

  10. This was predicted long ago in the Monihyan Report, but few listened.

Only a very calculated and determined focus on the urban crisis in our inner city centers will do any good. What you have going on is concentrated poverty, spatial isolation, and pathological culture combining. Obama-and every president since after the end of the Great Society-has only paid lip service to the problem, or worse yet in the case of Bill Clinton-attacked the wrong issues i.e. welfare.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ...And this is the last thing I'll say. Like it or not, the community's image does reflect on everyone, even Obama. You can go to Yale, marry a white woman and buy a McMansion in a high value community. You are still only a criminal in the minds of most every other American. Some of it IS racism, but MUCH of it is because crime is not under control AND the buffon rappers and actors take money to sling this image around the media, exacerbating the problem.

Obama IS in a position of power to do something. Even the most basic thing for our kids....education...is on the chopping block. We can bail out the banks though and find time to pander to racists who are never going to vote for you, huh.

You don't live in a vacuum, and our unwillingness, yes Obama too, to get crime under control is putting every member of the community in danger. Even if you decide to leave and disparage their own, you're still only a criminal to everyone else.

It's too late in the day in this corner of the world to deal with those who have no hope of pulling their heads out of their collective nether regions. When you want to make yourself and your people the priority, holla.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is truly sad, but not shocking anymore. We have long abandoned the inner city to fend for itself in this country.

Now here's where I agree with CF -- its up to us, and not Obama per se, to combat this kind of senseless violence. (Though I believe an Urban Marshall Plan is in order, because there are macroeconomics forces at play that are well beyond our control.)

MR, I have to disagree with you -- giving everyone a gun is the LAST thing we need to do. Frankly, its silly hyper-violent band-aid sociological gunshot wound. (No pun intended.)

I know people don't like to hear this, but maybe you should listen to Michael Moore more often. He's a gun owner and his documentary raises the point that our society is fear-driven and stressed. Irrational, terrified people make irrational, terrified decision. And giving firearms to terrified people is a recipe for disaster.

Tell me this, why do other parts of the world have stricter gun laws and much lower crime rates? Statistically, you're more likely to get shot in the States if you own a gun anyway -- it offers little to no protection.

No it isn't, but you know what would be nice? To see his administration speak to urban issues in A-merry-ca. Not asking for much. I knnow he is president of ALL A-merry-cans. But just a bone now and then would be nice.
Maybe a visit to urban A-merry-ca to talk to some folks on the front lines of the struggle other than the usual suspects. He has been to the Gulf, and he needs to go. But he needs to go to North Philly, Newark and the Bronx as well.

I love seeing the First Lady with those school children, but I would love to see Eric Holder with some police commissioners talking about urban crime and the justice department getting involved with federal prosecutions etc. as well. Come on Eric, make US Code Title 18work for some folks. I gurantee you that RICO cases can be made in some of these areas.

    2. Are your sons free of any arrest or criminal record? I see piss poor parenting everywhere and that seems to be a large part of the problem.

Sorry, your answers doesn't cut the mustard. That stream of thought doesn't work and never has. Local, state and federal governments must help to clean up this mess. We don't need a bunch of ignorant lynch mobs, regardless of color, making mistakes and tearing down the neighborhoods.

Arm the population with more guns and hope that the law abiding citizens have better training so that they can aim better than the "street pirates."
Cut programs like "Head Start" and after school programs. (Too much money, who will pay for it?)Less taxes on businesses so that they will be encouraged to come into inner city neighborhoods and hire youngsters to work in their factories. Wait, I am sorry, there are no factory jobs anymore. OK, hire them to work in the service industry.$8 an hour isn't much, but it's a start, maybe that will keep the dope boyz off the corner for about a week.

  18. LAC disagree with me all you will. You don't live where I live and we talked about this already. Your location shapes your worldview. You cannot argue that criminals don't register their guns. This is truth.

You believe in big government and asking the authorities for help. I'd rather leave the authorities out of it.

I've been a victim of violent crime twice in my life. The authorities didn't do shit AT ALL. Attorneys won't take your case unless they think it's a slam dunk. So No. I disagree and we'll never see agreement on this one. If people can defend themselves, then police may not be needed as much...but again where I live has shaped my views. When the KKK is ten miles down the road burning crosses and the Church of the Creator is up the road a ways, you tell me how can I defend myself.

I have a right to live in the place of my choosing. And I have a right to protect my family and property by any means necessary.

I don't trust the arm of government as much as you do and never will. Ancestral and psychic wounds prevent me from fully trusting any arm of law enforcement.

At the end of the day, it helps to have Eric Holder and the Justice department donate time, man-hours and money to solve the problems that plague us, but at some point, we, as a community of almost 40 million people, have to hold up our end of the bargain.

It's that simple. Their will always be racism and prejudice in America. Always has been.

But what has happened from the turn of the last century, when we had established, nearly self-sufficient, black communities all over this nation, even at a time when we had LESS freedom than we do now?

Because some of us have this double fantasy when it comes to the way we want to be treated. We want police protection, but we complain when we see it get too heavy-handed. We want equal treatment, but when the results of that treatment are not to our liking or desire, we say that the inescapability of our race had to be a factor.

We want to have good schools, but we only show up when they are about to close it down, never for the monthly PTA or PTO meeting. We complain that our children are failing their English class but they can text fluently, or they can become expert Wii players.

We have great potential as a people, but great apathy as well. We have to get through skulls that in this day in age we are owed an opportunity, nothing more. We are owed an chance to SIT at the table, not a SEAT at the table.

Hell, I'm pretty pro-black. I work in my community, for the betterment of it on a daily basis. But we have to do better than we are doing.

We don't have the assigned value of our skin color in a neutral or positive way as something that works in our favor. Like it or not we are judged individually, from Barack Obama, to E-Rock on the corner, as a proxy for our entire race. That's just the way it is.

Smashed, I understand where you coming from. But we have to fix this. Let the media and the punditry wait until a 2 year old white girl from a suburban family falls victim to similar tragedy before they begin to come anywhere close to giving a shit. We know, deep down, that we are alone in this fight. That's why it is that much important that we get it right.

    ReplyDelete
  21. MR- we probably grew up in the same way. Honestly, most of my family in the south hunt and fish. Not my bag, but then again gun control isn't about stopping hunters and fisherman, despite NRA propoganda. I respect you, but please don't think I'm some moronic hippy who doesn't understand that caring an uzi in DC isn't different than hunting ducks in upstate Michigan.

Yes, you're right Canadians have more guns than we do per capita. Canada also has stricter gun laws than we do. Yes, people own more guns -- but those are mostly hunting rifles, not handguns. Again, you're not going to get a gloc in Canada.

My point is that giving everyone a gun is no where near as effective as community policing, after school programs and your local church. Until we get the other things right -- community involvement, education -- lax gun laws are just gasoline on an inferno.

Now, given that you live way out in Northern Cali where you may have not access to the police for several miles -- sure I understand your point of view. I certainly don't agree, but I understand it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Another crucial thing to remember is that inner city areas have lost the black middle class. Prior to the 1960s, structural impediments kept middle class black in regular contact with lower class blacks. The end of du jour segregation let many middle class flocks flee the inner city along with whites. Take a look at Detroit sometime; it's a classic example of that process.

    ReplyDelete
  23. that should be "middle class folks"

    ReplyDelete
  24. Trapped...I agree, we have to start with ourselves and find a way to fix our problems. Hell it starts at home. And this isn't about blaming whitey, we have to find a way to marshall (no pun intended) the proper forces to make a difference. These kids out here are no joke. I went to a conference this past weekend and I broke off and was talking to one of the deputy police commissioners; she was telling me stories that had my big ass head spinning. So I get it.

But they (the police) will even tell you that they need help and resources from the politricksters.

My point is, that while I feel you, I can't ignore what Smashed is saying, either. He has a point: There is a tendency to ignore urban issues in this country.

Why do people from these neighborhoods elect these clowns if they are going to go to Washington or wherever and just forget about the issues that affect them?

Poor parenting; poor schools; poor choices; all of those are factors. But so is poor leadership.

  28. LAC my last comment seems harsh in retrospect. I don't think you are a silly hippee at all; I was responding to that attitude espoused by those trying to disarm law abiding citizens. That philosophy makes me angry to the T. But we actually agree on this:

"community policing, after school programs and your local church." LAC

But to me, community policing means that the citizens in the community do the policing. This is a far cry different from police stations in neighborhoods that come from a central authority.

Like I said, I've been a victim of violent crimes in the past (actually they occurred in big cities though) and the police were callous and insensitive and didn't give a damn about helping me. Trust.

Women can empower themselves by carrying weapons such as guns. Knives are iffy but guns can help stem a rape. Don't believe me, see this story. This woman had been raped, then the guy came back the next day to rape her again! But she was ready for his funky ass and killed that motherfucker. I have no love nor tolerance for rapists and child molesters and if I had my way, NONE of those people would be alive to see the light of day after they committed such heinous crimes.

You have to admit that our justice system puts out everything EXCEPT justice. Hell, a child molester will get probation or minimal prison time while a non violent drug offender on a mandatory minimum will get twenty to life.

Fuck our justice system. You see I have dealings with it only when I am obligated to. Otherwise, I look at policemen as an arm of tyranny.

Where I live isn't as rural as you think, but it is still considered rural suburbia. We have access to police and ambulance services here. Although up the road a piece, others don't have access to those services as easily because they're on county land. With that said, I have not had good experiences with police in my area. I've not committed any crimes but yet they treat me like a criminal. Fuck them.

And given that, how could I ever trust law enforcement. Puleeze. I'd rather have a weapon handy just in case the boys in blue don't turn up when I need them.

Stories like this hit me hard. This is not a problem that will be solved from the top down, there can be no more waiting for that. This needs a bottom-up solution, one person at a time.

The problem is an amoral generation raised without the standards of behavior needed for human society. A generation capable of believing there could be justification for shooting up a family.

We as a country have lost our way. Fix the family. Honor marriage. Practice and preach honesty.

Field, "Obama could help by giving notice to the black urban community. He is probably the ONE President in the history of our nation with the insight and potential to move and reinvigorate black urban America, and by extension America, in positive ways a President never imagined.

I often wonder why the First Lady isn't more involved? I wish she would be a bigger voice in the black community.

Eric Holder? I forgot about him some time ago.

Thanks for the post, Field. The story was a heart breaker. I hope you will do more posts that humanize and portray the pain, grief and sufferings of Blacks who live in terrorized urban war zones dominated by evil inhumane street pirates.

Those Street Pirates grow stronger and more violent each day. It's hard to face the reality that these cold-hearted pirates come from black families. What happened?

And the clemency case is also despicable.

"We've lost our way as Americans precisely due to liberal garbage spew that says that the government can take care of people. No. The government does not take care of me and mine. That is the responsibility of me and my husband and family. Government need only step in when there are emergencies. And even still a disarmed population is a weak one."

MR, with all due respect, the Government isn't some abstract entitiy. The Government is essentially us, the people. And as a representative of the people, it should work both for us and with us to solve the problems in our society. Now this isn't to say that self-sufficiency isn't a great luxury to aspire to. But there are many things that you just cant achieve on a completely individual level.

Also, countries such as Canada have a much more left view of government involvement..small government is a political theory that probably has the most popular standing in the US. Yet the US also has some of the highest crime rates in the industrialized world.

IMO, we've lost our way due to a number of things, and it has nothing to do with liberal thought. A few factors I believe to be causing this are:

a great gap between the haves and have nots-this one is obvious. cut out poverty and you cut out crime, you don't need to be a genius to figure this out.

social alienation-the type when you don't know who you're neighbours are. people aren't in the streets and their front gardens anymore, but locked inside their homes. Normal interaction between the individual and the community is lacking, resulting in 'street pirates' and sociopaths.

a hyper-individualist culture-when individual interests are more important than the family, than the neighbourhood, than the collective. Individualism is good, and has fuelled many progressive movements, but I believe there needs to be a satisfactory balance between individualism and collectivism.

Materialistc culture-a person is judged by what they own more so than by who they are. material success is seen as the number one goal. So if you're commiting crimes in the corporate world or on the streets-as long as you're getting paid, it's all good.

Breakdown of families-Happy families create happy people. Good family values instill good community values.

Concepts such as honesty and honour have lost their importance-it used to be shameful to act dishonestly, to engage in criminal activities, etc...now that shame is gone and such behavrious is encouraged by both mainstream hip hop culture and the 'greed is good' wallstreet crowd.

And I believe LAC made a very good point when he said that Americans or highly-stressed and fearful people, which I think is reflective of the lifestyle. I mean I would be stressed too if I had to worry about my access to healthcare, if I had to work 2 jobs to make ends meet, if I only
got 3 weeks of vacation a year.

Sorry to ramble on, but this is my two cents...in closing to decrease urban crime, we need to close the gap between rich and poor aswell as try and change the wider cultural mindset.

  35. Coffee and cigs, what you say has merit. But here's what I'd like to know: What do you tell the woman in the story I highlighted above who managed to save her own life and kill her rapist? The police were not there to stop the rape; they came after the fact. SHE had to defend HERSELF. I am really all for people knowing their neighbors and for us to be involved in our communities.

But there are bad seeds in every bunch and those in the community need to be able to defend themselves. What is your suggestion to this end?

If many of the thieves and crooks and skinheads (in my neck of the woods and also Nortenos)carry weaponry and use it in a second, then what recourse does an average citizen have? After all the ratio of police officers to citizens is certainly not a bijection;)heheheh

A Black man with a family, rolling into a housing project at 2-AM (with his family) is supposed to be armed.

If not armed, the Negroe is supposed to usher his family into their abode no later than 8.80-PM, when it gets dark.

Negroe women need to monitor who they be giving that pussy to; they often end up with 2-children by a man or men who do not have common gott-damn-motherfucking sense.

Women (or anyone who feels vulnerable in society) should protect themselves by any means necessary if they feel that they have to.

But I want sensible gun laws, and I have to co-sign with c&c, we are the government, and I want accountability from the forces wsho are paid to protect us.

    * The HOUSE that this Street Pirate was raised in is more than likely in line with Obama
    * The COMMUNITY within which this Street Pirate attacked this family which is now in mourning was down with Obama
    * The Police that were called to investigate the MURDER of this 2 year old little boy are commanded by a Police Chief.........
    * The Mayor who this Police Chief reports to..................
    * The District Attorney who will prosecute the Street Pirate.....
    * The Public Defender who will plead "Post Traumatic Slavery Syndrome"........
    * The Preacher that will bury the 2 year old little boy........
    * The bulk of the attendees at the funeral......
    * The City Council members that they all voted for.......
    * The School Board that was charged with educating the Street Pirate and who WOULD HAVE educated this 2 year old boy had he not been MURDERED......
    * The State Rep from the area.....
    * The State Senator from the area...
    * The PA State House majority...
    * The PA State Senate majority...
    * The Governor of PA
    * The 2 US Senators from PA....
    * The US Rep from this area of 9th Street....
    * The majority in the US Senate...
    * The majority in the US House.....

"WE" have not "abandoned these inner city places".

    Instead they have been USED!!!

    They are "VOTE HARVESTING PLACES".
In the "Pittsburgh" or "Vine City" areas of Atlanta it is clear that some operatives have set forth a fateful agreement.

They are going to GIVE just enough external resources to keep a lid on the violence, vice and dysfunction. As long as it stays within a certain predefined border.

HOWEVER, LAC King - the ORGANIC COMPETENCY that is needed to lift these communities up is not effectively focused upon. It is election time in Atlanta. I will drive through this community on my way to work and take a picture of the CAMPAIGN SIGNS to stimulate voting AND the "equal human beings" that sit around in folding chairs and table playing cards, dominoes or shooting the breeze during the productive portion of the day. They will be there in the morning and again when I return in the afternoon.

LAC King why is it that you can motivate the call for a 'Marshall Plan' that will drop resources upon these specific areas YET you are disinclined to make note of those forces that made these areas "Too Big To Fail" over the years?

IF the corporate forces that drew money out of the treasury deserved to have their LEADERS FIRED and intensive REGULATION - what do you ask as a result of these "Stimulus Funds" that you call for so that it will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN?

What's wrong with you Negroes, you do not pull into a housing project parking lot at 2.30-AM, with a female and 2-children; unarmed.

Unless, some armed someone followed you home to make sure that you get into your abode safely. Unless, you've already asked an armed neighbor to be looking out for you when you arrive home at 2.30-AM.

You arrive at 2.30-AM, keeping your eyes on your rear-view and side-view mirrors; your pistol is on your lap, if a Niggah approaches your automobile, you roll down your window, point your gun at him, and ask, "may I help you, sir?"; at the sight of the gun, Nigger-man will skedaddle.

Exit your automobile gun in hand, and stand cover for the female as she removes the children from their car-seats. Gun in hand, you walk cover for the female and your sons as they go into their project building and their apartment.

Well, if a "street pirate" broke into my car, I'd want him in jail, not killed.
I know many people in my neighborhood (myself included), who would not call law enforcement in any circumstance, because 9 out of 10 times when someone who looks like me calls the police, they try to criminalize you the complaintant, and get downright nasty with you, and if you dare say anything back, they'll try to threaten you with arrest for commenting on the the way they treat you the "complaitant".
I HATE the fucking police, none of them are good, black or white, it doesn't matter. We pay these cocksuckers to keep us in our "place", nothing more. Most Blacks that call law enforcement have more to lose than the actual criminals themselves. Many don't call for fear of arrest.

    * Nurses
    * Programmers to develop the next FaceBook
    * REAL Pharmacists

Tell them that this $8 that they are making now is only a STEPPING STONE. Once they GAIN CONSCIOUSNESS of their own VALUES they will have people lining up to PAY THEM MORE.

It doesn't matter really. Why should they have to wave guns, stop, drop and roll in order to get into their house safely? I moved away from America for awhile and now realize that Americans accept mistreatment and expect danger in their homes and communities. If you weren't manipulated or conditioned in this way, the politicians and corporations couldn't continue their field day at your expense.

I'm not disagreeing with the self preservation aspect. I'm just asking everyone, why should we accept this situation? What makes these folks, or us, any less deserving of safe communities and police protection? A parent shouldn't have to worry about this.

Aside from lynch mobs or neighborhood patrols and street watches, what can be done other than move and raise your children correctly? BTW in regards to cracking skulls...You can try this out in your crime ridden neighborhood. I wish you the best of luck in battling so called street pirates...genetic mishaps. Here we are in 2010 still dealing with this pathology in our communities. Today would have been 2Pac Shakur's 39th birthday. I wonder what he would be saying through his poetry about the state of affairs in Black America with a Brother in the White House. My generation (late 30's, early 40's) saw first hand what crack , unemployment, and disenfranchisement did to our communities and generally speaking things have not improved since that time for the vast majority of us. How much longer will we stand for it? When will those of us who made it out get together and do something to fix this instead of turning a blind eye and blaming our marginalized Brothers and Sisters for being trapped?

  53. Hey MR, thanks for sharing that story, sad but vindicated. One less off the streets to worry about. I don't know why they leave these monsters out of the prison system. If more men were sexually victimized, we would never see this much tolerance.

I could only wish for that poor woman to get peace and possible closure. I also suspect that she's non-black, possibly white. You can tell from the compassion and corporative attitude given by the justice system - yes I said it. And I could only imagine how many black females he victimized and practiced on beforehand, black women who were not given this much compassion nor benefit.

MR, about your stand on personal arms, it seems so easier said than done. Not everyone has it in them, not everyone wants a gun, and not every situation can bring a person to clearly rationalize when not to use deadly force. However, as a female I can still relate and I would want myself and other women/people to protect themselves/family. But if/when that dreaded time comes, will the law abiding people have it in them to think fast and clear to do a face off, despite training? Or will that same weapon be used against them, or a loved one by error? Also, not every law abiding person can get a license to own a gun either. I know of average people who have had "nervous breakdowns" in their past, or is taking some form of depression/anxiety medication and applied for a gun license. Many of them get turned down because of "questionable mental history" or some other cover up term. I say that to say, what about people like them who can't get a legal lic. to carry a legal gun? Should they risk shooting a robber or rapist in their home with an illegal gun? Then we will see how f-uped the justice system really is.

And could you imagine if the rest of the population is expected to be armed in their own homes, the criminals will be even more prepared to come in for battle.

I don't think guns are the core solution, I don't blame anyone for thinking it is, but its a slippery slope. Its bad enough people have to worry about the street pirates, but then also have to worry about knocking on the wrong door in their own neighborhood looking for their lost cat.

Maria, I don't think coming home at 2 am is relevant. I could find a colossal of justifiable reasons. People should be able to come and go without such fear. Its also understandable to wonder if the parent/s were into criminal activity themselves, but if they were living in the subs, would we be wondering?

The reason why you don't have a united stand among black Americans vis-a-vis the inner city ghetto is because for a lot of us that is not a daily reality.

Now for those who are about to call me an "elitist" let me ask, just what are you doing about the 'hood?

    What are your detailed suggestions

My only request of you is for you to detail the terms by which YOU would be willing to make note of who WON THE BATTLE to control these "inner city" places and who implemented the prevailing set of POLICIES.

You prefer to attack my critique of PROGRESSIVE policies by pouring Chocolate syrup on them and proclaiming that they are BLACK. Thus when I critically analyze them YOU claim that I am attacking the OUTWARD projection which you camouflaged them in.

You prefer to talk about "Barack Obama" because when people are critical of his POLICIES you can say they are attacking the MAN.

Do you see how easy you and others are to read Steve?

BOTTOM LINE - while Detroit were EXPLOITED and Pittsburgh was POLLUTED these great cities had ABUNDANT EMPLOYMENT and production.

Your mission at that time was to FIGHT AGAINST these capitalist forces.

Now that you have WON - favored people put into POWER - these places now suffer from a different form of misery.

YOU won based on what you were really interested in. Please tell me how these COMMUNITIES "WON"?

[quote]CF, you have swallowed the rightwing jism with a big gulp.

We have to realize that this is Steve's "Time Of The Month" in which he is 'America First!!!'. He is not concerned today about the economic condition of other workers around the world that used to be under the boot of British/American imperialism. Today he wants to PROTECT the beast from having its blood drained out from these others.

Put your thinking cap on for one second Steve.
IS IT POSSIBLE that America is migrating BACK TO ROOM TEMPERATURE, closer to what the 6.3 BILLION other people around the world live at? We are but 300M.

Do you see that when all is said and done YOU are merely an "International Republican" - seeking to PROTECT YOUR OWN HIDE, unwilling to "share your wealth and resources" as you call for in the DOMESTIC context.

Can you detail what is stopping you from setting up a High Wage Domestic Production where you get the American consumers to BUY AMERICAN?

Why do you need the FORCE OF GOVERNMENT to restrict the choice? Is it because that you know that the American consumer is going to choose LOWER PRICE......IF GIVEN THE CHOICE? Thus it is the CHOICE that you must remove.

Well said brother Field. Of course everyone knows deep down that until everyone is afforded the same opportunities we will continue to have urban crime.

Trapped I feel you and Smashed you are on point.

Field I am going to resist the temptation to self flagelate. You know we have had crime in the black community for a long time. What has changed is that we are more dishonest about its causes and more willing to simply blame the victim (who know doubt is partly to blame). The same reason Detroit was the murder capital of the world a few decades ago and Miami, Newark and even Minneapolis became Murderapolis is the same reason that the tragedy that Field related to us on this post occurred.

We know in our hearts if this kind of inequity was occuring in middle class white communities it would have been addressed. However we beat up on ourselves and now pretend that we live in a colorblind society and that Pookey and "nem" can't see that their opportunities are limited right off the back. And that they can't see and feel that they are considered second class in this so-called land of opportunity. And that suddenly in 2010 this does not affect their pysche that their is no residue left on the mind of those who know that we live in a racist society.

Yet many of my middle class brethren stand on their soap boxes and call for taking the law in their own hands, or more unjust law enforcement and more imput from the "injustice" system, and more family parenting from families high on gov't imported (or assisted) dope.

And making matters even worse too many scream "I made it" when in reality they just have a job (and CF is right there ought to be more industry and business established in black communites by capable black folks).

And screaming that, "I made it so can you" is dishonest because they know like everyone on this thread that everyone does not have the same ability to overcome barriers. They know that we are not really created with equal ability but that is the duty of humans to afford one another equal opportunity.

And they know that hurdles are there to trip folks and that some folks can't hurdle.

And they know that the solution is to remove the hurdle. But its easier to hand wring, point the finger, victim blame, self flagellate or hate on ourselves.

And even when some of the would be street criminals try to get their act together, a system of legalized discrimination dims their light.

I am going to continue to do my thing, preach the gospel of liberation and fight for everyones rights and against discrimination wherever it rears its ugly head, pray that my fellow church folks wake up and open up their churches before its too late.

But I am not going to give into the temptation to continue to ask out loud, questions that I know the answer to. Just because folks don't feel that they want to, or have the will to make the system just, does not mean that it does not need to be done.

I drive thru Nicetown all the time. It is not a barrio. The other side of Broad Street may be considered so, but that neighborhood is called Hunting Park.

In Philly, blue light districts (flashing blue lights attached to cameras in high crime areas), are sometime around the corner to very stable neighborhoods with middle and upper middle income levels among the residence. (This not a case of gentrification)

  69. LA, gun laws are different in every state out here. If someone gets 51/50'd then they can appeal if their safety is threatened and if the appeal doesn't go through they have five years on the DOJ list then they are removed.

We agree that we ought to do something to protect ourselves but you are afraid of guns it seems. Well I am with NSangoma on this one. There is reality and then there is idealized land.

BTW I don't know why you think the rape victim was a white woman. They didn't release her name or her race. And so the hell what if she was white? I could give a damn! She was RAPED. Nobody nobody nobody nobody deserves that and anybody who is victimized has a fundamental right to self protection AND self preservation. If self preservation means carrying then so be it.

Another poster wondered why we accept living like this and I say by carrying, getting to know your neighbors and acknowledging the truth of what is, you do NOT accept living in a marginalized state; you are taking action.

God helps those who help themselves is a proverb I've always been told. This means that faith and prayer have to be coupled to ACTION. And what other action can we take to stem the tides of crime in our midst.

Are we supposed to always call the cops and tattle on people? You know that exacerbates violence because people are afraid to tell the police for fear of violent reprisals. However, this is because these people have been programmed to be afraid. Imagine if they had the power to defend themselves?

What is the matter with you? Where did I say because she was white, non-black, or black she deserved to be raped? I was commenting on the ready compassion "the case" was given. Not many black female rape victims living in certain areas were given that compassion before they were accused of possibly knowing the "alleged" rapist, thus "inviting" him in the first/second time to do bodily harm. I know two cases at the moment. That was just an observation I made.

'....and anybody who is victimized has a fundamental right to self protection AND self preservation."

I agree. But there is still a slippery slope on how far the law will see it that way in some situations. You think they care how much times you were raped (or claimed to be raped)? Maybe you can only talk about the laws in your area. But in many states, you shoot someone in the back even if they break into your house, and you will see how fast you'll be "self-preserved" in the penal system. Better hope you shot the right person or the rapist, not even your abusive ex, nor that dementia neighbor who's sleep walking.

And I wasn't referencing the case you brought up when I give that example above. And you may have a gun in your home, that's your right. But please don't walk around with one at the mall or in rush hour traffic, you sound too angry.

And you think rapist, robbers and professional criminals aren't already hip to you possibly owning a gun? I have heard more gun owner sad story outcomes than positive.

I understand what you are saying, but deep down inside I don't think owning a gun is the main solution for safety in most cases. I myself don't know what the solution is without it seeming like some wishful thinking. There is a bigger fundamental problem than just having to own a gun for protection. I shouldn't have to keep a gun on my top shelf or in underwear to feel safe and protected, and I shouldn't have to suffer for not owning one either.

    MR,

I think the woman should've acted in any way necessary to defend herself. I also think sentences for rapes need to be a whole lot tougher..but thats another topic.

Having said that, I dont think we should give up on the police force just yet or that the answer lies in arming every citizen. Cops are just like people after all. Some good, some bad, and a whole lot that let the power get to their heads. We need to work to improve our police forces rather than sideline them. Boost funding to make sure we have more police on the streets, demand efficiency so that calls are answered asap, implement stringent anti-corruption and ethical boards so that the force is as effective, clean and transparent as it can be. And cops who break rules or act in an unethical mannor should be severly punished.

We also shouldn't accept abnormal situations as normal. Its not normal that as a woman, I cannot feel safe walking after dark by myself. Its not normal that you have to live in fear of skinheads and thieves in your neighbourhood. Rather than a knee-jerk reaction, we should ask why this is happenening and what we can do about it? It sounds hippie but I think in the long run it would prove more efficient than increasing gun ownership.

Crimes will always happen, but a question that needs to be asked is: why does the US have the highest homicide rate in the industrialized world? In answer i'm a big fan of looking outside to other cultures to see what positives we can adopt..We could start with Japan for example, which has some of the lowest crime rates in the world. What are they doing right and how can we learn from them?

I've never been a victim of violent crime so I appreciate what you've been through and your view on this. Maybe if I had, my take might've been different. But statistics have shown that having a gun in the house does not prevent you from being robbed, lenient gun laws obviously are not preventing thousands of Americans from being killed, and too often guns have gotten into the hands of those who should never have had access to them.

    ReplyDelete
  83. MR, I forgot that you once said that you were a victim. I wasn't thinking in that line, and I didn't mean any harm when I said you sound too angry. Victims have a damn right to feel whichever way they like, but at the same token, I also agree with C&C.

  84. Thank you for the link MR. Very important story.

Michigan has been a shall issue concealed carry state for just over 8 years and none of the concerns about the state turning into the Wild, Wild West came to fruition. By and large, the people doing illegal acts before the change in law were the people doing the illegal acts after the law.

Certainly not everyone should own or carry a gun. But for those who wish to do so and pass the background check, concealed carry is a right-at least in Michigan.

No one knows how to stop crime en masse else it would be done. There are lots of good ideas on this blog. But when it comes to individuals the police can't be there to protect us and that's not their job, even if they wanted to do so, which many of them don't.

He should have put her on her ass - or out. Sorry arsed punch like that would do nothing to some 200lb male thug, except piss him off.

You don't physically assault an officer! ESPECIALLY when they are in the process of arresting someone who is resisting. The Cop was trying to be reasonable - by rights he could have lit up both women with a taser - or used his nightstick to put them down.

The cop reacted exactly as they are taught, which was to throw that punch.

    The woman who got punched?

I don't think its either or we have to call out personal as well as corporate evil. I am not an ideologue in the sense that you want to paint me. I actually agree with you, but we have to call evil out wherever it may be found in the ghetto or the White House, Wall Street or in the corporate suite. And we don't call out evil by pretending that it doesn't exist. And we don't help anyone by denying the impact of injustice on the lives of the very people who are victimized by it.

Denying racism doesn't meet the requirement of treating your neighbor as yourself my pious friend.

  89. btx3, I am not condoning anyone interfering with an arrest, or putting a hand on a officer's arm. But I wonder if that officer would have readily sucker-punched a young white or Asian female like that, and with such disgust on his face. Or perhaps he would have expended more tolerance in properly subdoing said white/Asian female like the usually do.

You also quouted that "She was living in the center last year in the care of Child Protective Services". What does that tell you about her possible dysfunctional background growing up as a child. I'm glad you enjoyed watching a black female suffer over a situation like this.

  90. LA, like others have said gun ownership isn't the total answer to violent crime but it can mitigate it quite a bit. Sure there are horror stories out there about gun owners then there are victorious stories where folks had guns and used them er like the story I cited above when the lady had the shot gun.

I have a young child so our rifle is not kept where he can access it. However it is kept in a place where it is accessible to adults who need to use it. Aside from owning guns for self defense, we also believe in gun ownership because we're interested in living close to the land.

Out here, people go hunting and fishing. You can use a cross bow or even a sling shot against small game but you need a rifle to shoot the big game.

I am an avid supporter of a more terra centered existence so gun ownership for me encompasses not just feelings of self protection but also self preservation in the sense of feeding my family etc.

My husband is an old Mariposa Ranch Hand. Gun ownership is a way of life just like tying your shoes, guns are necessary in those parts and in these parts.

LA I appreciate your sensitivity to my feelings because prior to ME being victimized by rape TWICE as a young woman I was against guns etc.

Now, I realize that the singlemost important thing I've ever done to reclaim my power is to go to the shooting range and learn to shoot. I suspect that rather than 51/50ing rape victims that courses in gun ownership and shooting would help.

Granted I would much rather use non lethal force and I know of some vegans who fill the barrels of their rifles with rock salt! This is supposed to injure an assailant but not kill them.

More non lethal weapons should be developed but at this point in time if someone is trying to do you in, you've gotta be protected.

Years ago a dear friend of mine was attacked in his neighborhood by some thugs. They would have beat him to death except some random Mexican guy saved his life. He went to the neighborhood oracle (OG) to see what he should do to protect himself and the OG said "All I can say mane is stay strapped." Practical advice for living in an impractical world methinks.

    Mellaneous:

You (and Steve) are so frustrating at times.

When I read your post I thought of the following image:

"The Evasive 'Laser Pointer Dot' Of OPPORTUNITY After Which The Progressive Continues To Chase".

    Think about it Mellaneous.

YOU TOOK OVER THESE AREAS per your POLITICAL VICTORIES.
YOU SOLD the masses on the notion that if you put YOUR FAVORED PEOPLE INTO POWER that things would be better for the masses.

Now even though WhiteBowieSteve has a vested interest in arguing that I am talking about BLACK LEADERS - I am talking about LEFTIST LEADERS, regardless of the color.

When you and others keep pointing to OPPORTUNITY I get the feeling that you are placing the OBLIGATION for this OPPORTUNITY CREATION on some entity that always seems to be inches outside of your grasp.

    Lets go through this again.
When Detroit, Cleveland, Buffalo and Pittsburgh were growing and thus offered employment OPPORTUNITY to the masses - WHO was the entity that created this OPPORTUNITY that you seemingly are pointing to?

I can tell that you are pointing to some universal SOCIAL JUSTICE CONTRACT that you are appealing to that equally hands out one scoop of grain for every human being in America.

Let me ask you Mellaneous - what about the local forces that are now in power per your wishes has you to LOOK PAST THEM as "opportunity creators" as you instead NATIONALIZE your expectations?

Why not "continentalize" or "globalize" your expectations for OPPORTUNITY?

Do you see what I say when I make the case that "Progressivism is not organic"? Instead you are on the perpetual chase.

The truth is that this "hey day of American industrial POWER" where she stood above all others - while there was OPPORTUNITY in Detroit's factories, for instance - the Progressive was not at all happy with the WAGES and WORK CONDITIONS in these "halls of exploitation and pollution" known as factories.

I seriously wonder if you and other perpetual chasers are capable of advancing certain attributes - ie: a working state (as opposed to being unemployed), the culture of timeliness that comes with a job, learning some skill, etc all the while you defer your demands for high compensation, idealized work rules, etc.

Do you not see that you don't have a problem with OPPORTUNITY. You have a problem with 'OPPORTUNITY COSTS'. In as much as you are seeking to MAXIMIZE every singe element that works in your favor - you will never see the HARM that is produced as you "take labor off of the market" as you boycott for greater demands of compensation.

The opportunity is right before your eyes. You have to be willing to let go in order to obtain it.

Why did BET Uncut use her previous felony as PROOF of her present guilt?

Did BET Uncut look at the racist officer's service record to see if the White cop had a history of punching Black women in the face?

That area you speak of is Hunting park. There may be another name but not Nicetown. Nicetown in on the other side of Broad St. to Wissahickon Ave, bordered between Hunting Park Ave and Windrim and Wayne Ave.

Maybe not one block by the strict definition of being near the camera, but I think these close enough.
The 100 block of Tuplehocken St. is about three blocks. The block bounded by Locust Ave, McMahon and Church Ln. four blocks.

  100. "Have yo u ever shot someone? Have you been shot at? Do you think you could stay focused under fire? Most people can't."Well

To answer one of your questions, if people are properly trained to use fire arms and don't just carry them around, then they can be cool against an adversary. However, when people's nerves get to them they make silly decisions that could cost their lives. On the other hand, why do local homeboys have that much more of an advantage?

Practice makes perfect. The shooting range can be your best friend when you are trying to learn how to shoot. I live in a place that is primarily rednecks, white people, portuguese, assyrian, Mexicans and some southeast asians. Blacks are only three percent. Ala Hiram Revels it is necessary for our population to learn these tactics. Like I said it was only thirteen or so years ago that the county banned cross burning due to 'air pollution'. Best believe all Blacks in this area NEEDED and still NEED to be protected.

As to whether or not I've shot a human being- No I haven't. I didn't get into guns until after I was violently assaulted. Too bad though because if I carried at the time, given the circumstances, those guys really would be dead right now. And I wouldn't feel guilty about it either.

Just like the woman I cited above shouldn't feel guilty for killing her rapist.

As to being shot at, no. I haven't been shot at before, but I have had a gun held to my head before and it is a none too pleasant feeling. I've been scared for my life when this has occurred and again if I was armed, then this conversation might be a nullity.

What bothers me is that we've become so complacent and terrified as a people, that is as Americans, that we routinely ALLOW this police abuse to occur in our midst. The officer was clearly abusive. I don't give a damn what the policies and procedures are. Do you honestly think that the girl's jaywalking offense was worthy of an arrest, AND the use of physical force?

I don't pay taxes for screwed up fucks to ABUSE teenagers for minor infractions. She should have gotten a jaywalking ticket at the most but better yet, he should have given her a warning then moved on. Her friend pushed the police officer because he was being physical with her buddy. Fuck that guy. He shouldn't have been up in her face to begin with.

Instead of showing outrage at the cop's behavior, I've seen some of you say that he should have used force and or that you shouldn't challenge the police.

Well if the police are supposed to work for the people (cause that's who pays their salaries) then they ought to act in the interests of the people. Citing a girl for jaywalking and giving her a ticket, along with using physical force IS NOT what most normal people condone.

The onlookers were sufficient in number to bumrush that cop and beat his ass. But they were too scared to do anything.

Sometimes this type of evil needs to be called out and addressed. I am sorry but MLK cum ba ya moments are ineffective when it comes to this type of shit.

    What a cowardly act!

That was a serious blow for a shove. But of course these folks prove over and over that a badge and a gun gives them special rights.

I say special rights because most human beings no how to mete out a shove for a shove. But ironically the guy who is supposed to uphold the law, returns a slight push from a woman for a full blown haymaker.

And then the police chief adds his own insensitive and amoral touch by saying, "oh well thats what you get." Isn't he supposed to be professional or at least a professional?

Knowing how to shoot at a fire arms range is not the same as shooting a living human being. Most people freeze up when they are shot at, even soldiers coming out of basic training can have that reaction.

Secondly, I don't know about the local home boys where you live, but around here they have a big advantage over you: They've been shot at before, usually many times; they've shot people before. When you go up against an experienced killer you better be an expert, if you're not, you wont make it.

"I am sorry but MLK cum ba ya moments are ineffective when it comes to this type of shit."

You can cite examples to the contrary and I can cite examples to counter yours. I still don't believe that we should pussy out and just call the police when we're victimized. I'm all for fighting and doing for self and community.

And granted some people have serious anxiety if they have to shoot another person and others can get over it. Such is life. Any person who owns a fire arm needs to go to the shooting range to hone their skill and perhaps take courses or read up on how to overcome such anxieties. There are methods to do so.

Deserved to get smacked upside the head. And if the cop didn't do it, their mommy or daddy at home ought to do it.

Stay out of questionable neighborhoods after dark; avoid dressing provocatively; have a man around; don't live in the central city if you can avoid it; stay away from areas where you are more likely to be harrassed on the street; have a male co worker escort you to your car, etc.

Once again, location is key. You know what the armed break in rates in most suburbs are? Just about zero. If someone has to live in a bad neighborhood, they are indeed in trouble. Bu arming folks is not the answer. The answer involves the black middle class getting involved again with those they've left in the rotting city cores. it involves a real grass roots push for economic justice; it doesn't involve the same old "too much government, too much welfare; too many cops."

Do you live in a nice area M? Do you know what keeps the inner city folks from coming to get you? The police force. If you take away cops from the suburbs, the inner city violence would spread. I'm sure you have much nicer to stuff to steal than pookie or Ray-Ray does in the hood.

The answer is indeed an urban Marshall Plan, as LaCoincidental urged. It's the reengagement of middle class black folks with the problems of the cities. It's not dissolving the police force and arming inexperienced civilians with weapons.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Yeah Well, you still didn't answer the question about what that rape victim should have done so what you suggest is an academic theoretical exercise.

In terms of suburbs, the term takes on a different meaning where I live. It used to be that places like Stockton and Modesto were considered suburbs but not any more. These areas are located in the Central Valley and have rural parts but there is a lot of gang violence AND a lot of tweaker crime.

Your statistics on suburban crime don't match up with my experience. Read the Modesto Bee or the Stockton newspaper.

Recently, there have been home invasion robberies occurring with greater frequency in my very town.

So just because we live in a suburban area doesn't mean there's lower possibility of crime. At least not in Central Valley of California.

And in rural areas there are more and more crimes committed by meth addicts(tweakers).

Most women are raped by someone they know. Those that aren't often don't have time to react. I could have a gun on you before you even see me coming. What do you do then?

"Your statistics on suburban crime don't match up with my experience. Read the Modesto Bee or the Stockton newspaper."

Modesto and Stockton are indeed crime ridden. However, urban crime predominates in the nation as a whole. Still, do you think you would be safer tomorrow if Stockon, Modesto and the outlying areas dissolved their police forces and instead gave everyone a 9mm and some spare clips?

    ReplyDelete
  122. i would not expect a rape victim, even with a gun, to be able to stop the rape. it would get knocked from her hand before she has a chance to fire--and then it gets used on her.

more people who own guns die from wounds by their own guns. kids die. how this became a discussion about people arming themselves to the teeth is beyond me. if the family that was shot at in the story had a gun, how many more people might be dead?

more guns are not the answer. more guns has NEVER been the answer. anarchy would be the result.

fewer guns are the answer. take a city like trenton where cory booker et al has brought down crime. was it because more people got guns? i think not.

or else, as i suggested, we institute sharia. and just go and "harm" rapists and child molesters.

He lost his cool rather fast and acted out a scene in a bar fight. The cop is a person too.

And real life policing is ugly, and isn't like the TV shows.

Considering the 4-5 options the cop has, punching her was probably the best in that situation. Tasering sometimes kills people.

Cops certainly aren't saints (Oscar Grant), however you have to look at a situation from their viewpoint as well. About 125 of them get killed a year on the job, with the leading causes being gunfire, vehicular assault, and automobile accidents. When someone gets physically violent with a cop - there is no way for him to know that they aren't ready to use deadly force.

The two women should have STFU, and talked like intelligent human beings to the cop - in which case he probably would have let them go with a warning not to jaywalk again for safety reasons.

"But what has happened from the turn of the last century, when we had established, nearly self-sufficient, black communities all over this nation, even at a time when we had LESS freedom than we do now?"

In the midst of the fight for equality, Black folk got the opportunity to sample the White man's ice. Turns out it wasn't cooler than our ice -- in fact, it was nothing but warm water in an ice tray. In the meantime, our tray's bone dry.

Not having access to most resources meant we had to have our own, and by default, we supported them. After all, they were pretty much all we had to work with. These days, most Blacks don't give Black-owned/operated resources a second thought since we now have open access to the same resources White folk are using. And thanks to the usual racial conflict, most of those resources are either suddenly lacking when a Black person gets their hands on it, or they come with strings attached, something that wouldn't happen if Whites were using them.

Now forgive me for going off on a racism chase, but well....it just has to be said.

Ms. Kempfert and her son no longer speak. Ronald Kempfert, who took his stepfather’s last name when he was a child, is in the process of changing it back to Macumber.

She basically lied her ass off to put him in jail, and now she's willing to keep up the lie just to keep him locked up?

What a selfish, self-serving, evil ass whore. "Bitch" doesn't quite convey my feelings about this woman, especially after seeing this shit:

But Mr. Macumber’s former wife, now known as Carol Kempfert, said he was a dangerous sociopath who deserved to die in prison. She denied making up his confession and tampering with the evidence used to convict him.

It is her former husband, she said, who is a pathological liar. “I was in law enforcement for almost 20 years, and no one came close to being able to manipulate like Bill,” she said. “This man could sell water to a drowning person.”

Mr. Macumber, she said, would have said anything to save their marriage.

For instance, she said, he once falsely claimed to have a heart condition. “He intimates that if I hang around long enough, he’ll die and I’ll get the insurance money,” she said. “Well, I hung around, and he didn’t die.”

Then he threatened to kill himself. “If you’re going to do it, go outside” she recalled telling her husband. “I don’t want blood on the walls.”

In the course of a half-hour conversation, Ms. Kempfert accused Mr. Macumber of terrible and disturbing crimes beyond the killings in the desert. Asked if he deserved clemency, she said, “Absolutely not.”

“Actually,” she added, “I think he’s lucky. If he had been caught sooner, he would have gotten the death penalty.”

Damn. If I were her son, I wouldn't speak to her or carry her last name either.

  132. NSangoma @10:02 AM, you are a jackass that is completely incapable of critical thinking.

No, Jesus probably won't save you from your apathy and disrespectful view of black people (are you even black?). I hope you get the Darwin award since you're happy to be a thug. Don't insult others though by using the white man's insult to address the rest of us, buffoon.

After reading this, it is easy to see that too many accept the status quo and are happy to be victims in their own home. You can say that this is the result of Christianity's conditioning to suffer long and quietly. I say black people in America have been low so long and have no sense of self or history, that you have Sangoma or Feedback running around spewing the harmful nonesense they do. Damnit, you are all entitled to be safe in your communities. I don't feel sorry for N Sangoma (please stay in the ghetto and become a victim. you're an embarassment to the rest of us) nor Confused Feedback. They degrade themselves and their people in the most Uncle Rukkus fashion. Using degrading terminology to describe your own is a whole other rant.

Your kids should be safe walking home from school. Why should only Johnny Wonderbread be guaranteed a safe school. Hmmm. Why is that kid better than yours? Sad pathethtic lot that thinks anyone else's kid deserves more than yours.

An intelligent person has no choice but to either move away from the insanity of the hood or America. I don't like saying there's no hope, but it's conclusive. Nothing will ever change. I believe the poor and downtrodden deserve safety too. But I guess some of you timid folk believe that safety is a privilege for whites or the upwardly mobile black folks. Too many of you are insane enough to repeat what doesn't work and are fine with not being thought of enough by society at large to get the help from law enforcement that you are entitled to as a taxpayer.

  134. Since few of you are offering any real solutions here's some of mine...

    1. Get the NAACP or other "leadership" groups to withdraw future support of Obama in the 2012 election IF he does not get Holder to address the needs of urban police forces.

    2. Decriminalize "illegal" drugs. How much of this violence is drug related? Remember prohibition.

    3. This normally goes against my view on the Constitution, but treat drug related violent offenders, thugs or street pirates, as terrorists. Throw them in gitmo, their relatives and friends too if they get in the way. You are known by the company you keep. You know who these people are. Our children are at stake. Hire black men from other cities with clean backgrounds to do the round up with the FEDS. This will help with employment issues.

    3. End child tax credits for parents with juvenile deliquents. End welfare/WIC payments after the 2nd child. (I'm not talking about a person who was employed and had a family and needs services. I'm talking about curbing the bastard child rate.)

    4. Require critical thinking in schools. Schools, while we're at it should meet the same OSHA safe work site standards as adults. Jail parents/withdraw WIC whose kids are not in a school or are deliquent.

    5. Lay on the crime doesn't pay, propaganda. Require money management, personal finance and basic entrepreneurship classes to graduate from middle school.

    6. FEMA works with the clergy. (Mind Control). Look it up. Time to get fire and brimstone pro-good citizen, healthy black community sermons. Like it or not this is a tool that can be used to our advantage. Many black folks are religious. Shame deadbeat parents, discourage forgiving the ne'er do wells for the 90th time, and promote good citizenship and resource maintenance.

Hate these ideas? Come up with your own. I'm working on #1 already.

  135. Maria I already showed a link where a rape victim used a shot gun to kill the rapist who returned for a second go at it. You choose to ignore this example shows that you care more about proving your points than acknowledging the truth. Since you don't know about all rape situations, how dare you say that a gun might not help! There are likely many cases where a woman could be alive OR could not have gotten raped if she had the means to protect herself with a gun or whatever weapon she could carry!

You are saying shit just to be combative and prove your points which make no sense.

CF about South Central...how many people that live there think that the police are doing their jobs out there? How effective have the police been in stemming gang related crimes and deaths? Your position is almost laughable, if not sad.

Gangs flourish in areas where people have no rights AND are beat down. This occurs in the South Side of our town because that is where the Mexicans were FORCED to live for so long. There are a fair amount of illegal immigrants in that community and so it is difficult for them to report crimes for fear of reprisals by organized (seriously organized) gangsters.

The police come and treat INNOCENTS like they are guilty and almost always the bad guys get away. Only the dumb ass bad guys manage to get caught. With that said, communties need to become organized and once this occurs, gangs will dissipate in time. There might be small warring for a couple of weeks or so, but with true organization the community can preval.

But community organization doesn't mean people going to meetings at the local library or whatever and running their minds. Community organization involves ACTION and we need to realize that NAACP, MLK organizations are good for agitating legal changes in policy. However, they aren't too terribly good at keeping the neighborhood peace in the here and now.

  136. Well, you are obfuscating. Your assertion that most women are raped by people they know might be statistically true but still doesn't do anything to help the women. The women I cited above did NOT know her rapist btw and from personal experience neither did I Both times it happened to me .

The circumstances for my situation would have lent themselves to gun ownership to be sure.

Bear in mind, I didn't say that everyone should have a gun. But I believe that people should get a gun if they are concerned about their health. A lot of you guys on this board are lawful citizens that do not own guns, and good for you.

I'm just saying that folks ought to be able to carry to defend themselves. As to dissolving police forces, I don't advocate that either. However I do advocate police reorganization and a limit to police powers.

As to most crime concentrated in urban areas, you are wrong! You've forgotten about the rural areas where meth crimes predominate and some of them are pretty heinous. Modesto, Lodi, Turlock, Ceres, Denair, Tracy, Stockton, Manteca, Oakdale, Hughson even Knights Ferry ALL have serious issues with methamphetamine abuse crimes. These crimes range from child abuse and neglect to prostitution to armed robberies to home invasions. In addition, throughout this rural and suburban region home invasion robberies are happening more frequently now. There are a lot of towns on the list I just gave you that are rural and are crime ridden.

The President would do well to say something about ALL crime and set up something to work with LOCALES to gauge their needs.

In East Oakland, there are crack babies but in Modesto their are crack&meth babies. From what I gather, all across rural and suburban America there is a crisis with meth.

Arming everybody who wants a gun is only part of the solution. Organization and training in the community is needed so people can protect themselves as a unit and look out for one another.

One positive thing that I am getting involved with is community gardening. Me and my husband aim to transform our front yard lawn to an edible garden in a few months. This is a sure activity to get discussions on in the community and this is just the beginning...

Not ship us back, but do the same things that they have done to the Native American population. You DO remember the Native Americans, right? Hundreds upon hundreds of tribes with relative free reign over a large portion of the country and today, well, you do see the reservations, don't you? This and the fact that most have opted to "melt" into the American pot by interbreeding, et al.

And then I go to sites such as Sojourner's Passport, describing the ills of the Black community while writing off Black men as damaged goods and encouraging the women to "divest, distance and divorce" themselves from the Black community. I don't know what to say about this one........yet. It really deserves a blog post. In fact, I just might end up opening up my own blog to address this.

MR I'm sorry to hear that you've been a victim of such a horrible crime, and as I said I appreciate your view on this as a person who's been through it.

    Well said..

"Stay out of questionable neighborhoods after dark; avoid dressing provocatively; have a man around; don't live in the central city if you can avoid it; stay away from areas where you are more likely to be harrassed on the street; have a male co worker escort you to your car, etc."

I couldn't help but notice this. Avoid dressing provocatively? What are we in the 1930s? Even if women went around wearing burqas, rapes would still occur. Rape is essentially about power and control, not what a woman looks like and what she is wearing.

All the reasons you listed put the onus on the victim instead of the criminal to change their behaviour. This should NOT be the answer. What I'd like to see is suggestioins on how to deal with perpertrators and how that behaviour can be changed.

Also not everyone can live in a good neighbourhood, not everyone can or should have to have a male around to escort them, and we shouldn't have to live in fear of being out alone at night. These are circumstances we should fight against instead of just accept.

I live in the real world and yeah I don't walk around at night alone because I'm too scared-but I view this as an abnormal situation, not a normal one, and I'd like to see the day come when I don't have to model my behaviour on fear of crime or rape.

You know, these days I just don't have the time or energy to invest in making comments. Henceforth, I find myself sitting on the sidelines watching others do battle within the confines of that little comments popup. At first, I thought about overlooking your abject stu......no, no, I'm not going to insult you or belittle your intellegence. It's not your fault that you went off on a tangent without considering that maybe there was a bit more to the story.

    Well, here's that "bit more".

Want to know why I brought up the Native Americans? Because this blog chronicles the slow-motion extermination of a large segment of Blacks, I figured the parallel to the somewhat slower-motion extermination of Native Americans would be a bit easier to relate too. Well, at least for some people. Because it happens to be what some White people would really like to happen. They want the "Black problem" to burn itself out in a blaze of physical, economical and social strife. They wouldn't mind seeing Blacks about as marginalized as the Natives are nowadays.

Secondly, I've been browsing a few proportedly pro-Black female websites like What About Our Daughters and Sojourner's Passport. These sites are filled with women who are advocating abandoning the Pookies, Baby Boys and Slim Thugs of the Black community. SP goes even further by advocating the abandonment of the entire Black community, since in their opinion, the collective is too tainted and disfunctional to be salvaged and is therefore no longer worth the time wasted on it's rescue and resurrection.

I don't subscribe to those views.

Fitting within the framework for "divestment", these sites also encourage Black women to marry outside of their race. If you read the comments, you can actually see a few brag about their non-White mates. Nothing necessarily bad about that, but it does segue back to my point about interbreeding and the Natives.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Mack Lyons3:28 AM

So what happened to the dwindling numbers of Native Americans after the "pale faces" took them for damn near all of their land? Well, there was always the reservations, but many chose to marry outside of their ethnic makeup, to the point where there's only a symbolic name or a claim of 1/16th of ethnic blood linking them back to their original roots.

So the Black women get fed up with having to "date down" because there aren't enough "good" Black men (or hell, they decide that ALL Black men aren't good) and date outside of their race, not that that's a bad thing. But you have to wonder if the collective Powers That Be™ have decided that since they couldn't off the Black community through the usual physical, social and economic means, then perhaps they can try breeding them out again.

So the Black woman dates, marries and has kids with the White man, and those kids grow up to largely date whites and so forth and so forth.

What do you do to coffee that is too black and strong? You pour creme in it. In this case, the cup's gonna be 90% creme when all is said and done.

    Or maybe not.

In the end, most Whites could care less about Black toddlers getting killed, Black people being condemned to the lowest economic and social rungs possible or even that we exist. In fact, the only time they have really acknowledged our people is when they either wanted something (votes, physical labor, our money, etc) or when a select few in our community so something shocking, heinous and/or jawdroppingly stupid. If they could do away with us the same way they have largely done away with the Natives, then they would. And maybe they are, and we are too fucking stupid to realize it.

And......I'm done. Nice talking to you.

  147. Coffee and cigs thanks for your compassion.

Well, the FBI crime stats are something I haven't perused in a a couple of years. I usually look up who the sex offenders are in my neighborhood and try to avoid their location though.

And let's be honest; we're talking about reported crimes. When I came from East Oakland to the Central Valley, the first Middle School I attended was mostly white with some Mexican students. Out of twelve hundred kids, there were maybe thirty six Black kids.

Anyway, I saw kids doing lots of drugs there and drinking and smoking cigarettes at school! At my Middle School in Oakland, kids sold drugs but didn't do them that often.

The white kids at the Middle School to which I transferred were of means so they got counseling and drug rehab programmes if they fell off. The Black kids in East Oakland who were selling the drugs were sent to juvi and stripped of their rights fully.

The disparity in crime stats are due to lack of reporting. What is a crime in one locale is a 'sickness' in another locale. This misapplication of the law, coupled to normal police ambivalence towards Blacks historically and currently, make me hold stronger to my position that no matter where you live, if you're Black in America you need to know how to handle a gun.

There are practical rules to this too. For those of us who like to go into remote areas, you never know who you'll see and best believe sometimes there are real assholes in remote areas.

We camped out near Shasta mountain in a remote campsite with a glacial bowl on Forest Service Roads a few years ago. In the middle of the night, we heard a commotion. Some folks with a big RV had rode into the camp at night blasting their music and sure as shooting had a LARGE Confederate flag waving on their RV.

My husband immediately said some choice words upon waking up in the morning and verifying that the flag was Confederate. We went on a hike on the Pacific Crest Trail (very beautiful)and saw some of those assholes on the way. There was no love and no words exchanged between us. I was happy to know that my husband is a tough SOB and I had his back. I would have felt more comfortable if we had our hunting rifle though.

Mack Lyons, you are quite a funny guy. Black men have been "breeding" outside of their race and predictably, black men have nothing to say about it. But when black women are encouraged to broaden their horizons, it's just so awful. I personally believe people should hook up with whomever they choose and that includes black women.

Black men are notorious for abandoning their families.

As for divestment, I absolutely support this. High crime areas are hostile to black females of all ages. Just as you have seen in this topic, some negro kills a child and all colored folks care about is saving the savage animal who did the killing. The black community rarely steps up for black women or children or seniors. All we care about is saving black thugs who know the "community" will always embrace them no matter what disgusting act they carry out. Black thugs experience no shame or ostracism for what they do because black folks will make excuses or defend their sorry asses.

We talk about what to do about urban black youth but we are really talking about black males because no one wants to spend a dime on programs for black girls.

If I were a magician, I would wave my magic wand so that every black girl could freely say no to black boys. Tell their sagging pants behinds that they did not associate with anyone who embraced gangsterism because that was behavior for losers.

ALL Black men or SOME Black men? Men in general are good for ditching their families. Phrasing your statement in this way gives others the impression that Black men have sole claim on ditching their families.

The problem with this is that some, note SOME, Black women hide behind this fact in order to project their own brand of poison and self-hatred, and it seems that the WAOD crowd rarely have anything positive to say about Black men.

At this point, I'll just leave well enough alone. Twisting myself up in a pretzel defending genuinely good Black men against what seems to be a poisonous hatred of Black men in general by some Black women stemming from the utter complete bullshit that our more simian relations have done against Black women ain't a good look.

    She's doing fine.

I check on her personally every month but I'll keep your offer in mind.

"But if you mean murder occurs at the same rate in both white and black communities, then you are wildly, sadly wrong."

Right on cue, no_slappz, with your endless crusade to convince us blacks how bad blacks are and how good whites are.

Whites have been a blight on the civilizations of the world. And neither their science, nor their technology, will make up for it.

If you derive some measure of satisfaction, or conscience assuaging for what your kind has done over the centuries to the indigenous people of the world, by browbeating us into submission, then you are pathetic, and and your cause is pathetic.

    A zinger from Zing:

Blacks didn't sail the ocean blue
    To conquer, enslave, or undo,
    What God and nature devised,
And you attempt to cover with your lies.

Obama and Tony Hayward might not know his name; but he's famous in Philly.

Self-delusion is a luxury you can't afford, my benighted friend.

It wasn't 'socialism' that rammed the head of this nation's economy into the proverbial toilet, it was vintage, unadulterated, pure, concentrated 'capitalism.'

As we speak, banks are receiving zero percent interest rate loans from the Feds which they're using to fatten their wallets at the expense of regular taxpayers.

The last I check, neither you, nor I, are receiving these loans.

Check it out here, if you dare, if you can stop smelling the tea long enough to take a long, extended whiff of "wake-up coffee."

What we've seen over the years is 'corporate welfare,' 'corporate socialism'...corporations socializing risk, that is, transferring it to the tax-paying public, while privatizing profits.

If 'socialism' is good enough for bankers and wall street, it follows, as night day, that it must be good for us all. Wouldn't you agree?

Annony, where are all those capitalism-generated, 'cash cow,' jobs now, while unemployment hovers around 10%, a number which is certainly a great deal higher...the government statistical methodology never fully taking into account the 'real numbers,' making it impossible to have a true snapshot of either the status of unemployment at any given time, or the generative vigor of the economy.

All I'm asking for is consistency. Are you consistent, Anonny?

Or is 'bull shit' just for the long-suffering public, but not for the corporations that's fleecing, and have fleeced, the American people, without so much as a 'thank you,' or a crumb of gratitude.

Without our tax dollars, 'mega-banks' would now be broke, languishing, and struggling to stay out of the murky, oily waters that's suffocating the coastal waters of the Gulf, destroying wildlife habitats, and the fragile ecosystem that maintains the lives, and livelihoods of so many.

This is what your precious 'capitalism' has done, and will continue to do.

I would urge you, as you urged field-negro...do 'some homework.' Check out the link I've provided, and seek out others.

The education that you've suggested for others is sorely needed by you,

I won't Zing you. I'll save my zingers for another day, after you catch up with the rest of us socialists, and progressives.
