Flight delay.

On the road again folks. I am sitting in Philly International waiting on a plane that's delayed from Boston so that I can skid marks out of here. (Two hour delay!)Memo to self: Avoid US Air in the future. They can keep their dam "frequent flyer" miles.

"Ladies and gentlemen. there has been a gate change" Great!

Anywhoo, I am watching the television and CNN is all over this tax cut debate.
Republicans are really looking foolish. Their own bible; The Wall Street Journal, slammed them today in an editorial for not voting to extend the tax cuts. Mr. Tan Man refuses to bring it to a vote, and I suspect that his candidate for president will pay a price at the polls come election time.

No matter how they try to spin this, it all comes back to them not voting to extend the tax cuts past the January1 deadline.

So ten days to go, let's see who blinks first.

I'm off the ranch for a few days, but I will be posting from the road. Sorry wingnuts; truth never takes a day off.

Field, why do you make these last minute announcements whenever you go away? Why can't you give us more time to adjust while you are gone?

Furthermore, I don't appreciate you going away this time of year when life can suck for a lot of us...it's called depression. The least you could do is wait till the holidays are over and our depression has lifted.

Don't believe me? Talk to Desertflower, Mack Lyons, Brooklyn, or depressed Negro. They know depression can be hell.

BTW, where the hell are you going?

Anon 8:42pm-Thank you for letting Field have it! I think I'll write my boss and tell him that our rates are too low in that contract for 2012. Field is getting away with almost no increase.

We deserve better for all the 'hard' work we do on FN. Field's blog wouldn't be shit without us.

And then Mr. Field ups and leaves during the holidays without advanced notice? That's bullshit. If our boss had charged the Field a hefty increase he wouldn't have had the money to go anywhere and we wouldn't be having this conversation in the first place.

Maybe our boss should take a hike with Obama in 2012?

  9. First Tupac, now Slam Dunkin'.

The world of art has lost another genius. Slam Dunkin' is dead. It appears his death was related to a fight that started over... candy (for his sake, I hope it was something good, like a Starburst):

Police say they believe a fight over candy preceded the slaying of an Atlanta rapper over the weekend.
Mario Hamilton, also known as Slim Dunkin, was killed at a recording studio on Memorial Drive on Friday night.

Police said Hamilton got into an argument with another man prior to his death.

“This fight spilled out into this area where he was attacked and beaten. Based on the evidence we have, whoever he was fighting with secured a weapon and shot him,” Detective David Quinn of the Atlanta Police Department said.

So far, no witnesses have come forward.

A piece of candy. That's it. What type of person reacts so strongly to losing the ability to consume a piece of candy that they decide to take another persons life?

The same kind of person that comes upon a guy having a heart attack in his car and takes the opportunity to drag him out of his seat, rob him, and steal his car:

A 17-year-old boy robbed a PNC Park usher who had just gotten off work and was dying from an apparent heart attack in the streets of the city's North Side, Pittsburgh police said.

The death of 58-year-old Michael Schacht has been under investigation since April 9, when police found him face-down near the intersection of Brighton Road and Brighton Place in the California-Kirkbride neighborhood at about 1 a.m.

On Tuesday, police said they've learned that Schacht was driving north on Brighton Road when he pulled his car over and stopped at a curb.

"Mr. Schacht was apparently in distress. He was slumped over the console of the vehicle, at which time the 17-year-old opened the door," Lt. Kevin Kraus said. "He used a significant amount of force to remove Mr. Schacht from the car, placed him on the ground aggressively and proceeded to search his pockets, stole his wallet and proceeded to steal his vehicle."

Police said Schacht was alone when officers arrived and was unresponsive, with head and arm abrasions. He was taken to Allegheny General Hospital and pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. His silver 2002 Hyundai Sonata was found in Perry Hilltop later that day.

Murder gets close to home as a bakery/coffee shop owner whose shop I patronized is killed.

Burned body in Pa. ID’d as Brooklyn bizman

    By DAN MANGAN

    December 22, 2011

A 30-year-old Brooklyn cafe owner who mysteriously vanished on Halloween was identified by authorities yesterday as the man found shot to death and burned in the woods of eastern Pennsylvania on Nov. 1, the following morning.

Joshua Rubin — whose body was only recently identified through DNA and dental tests — opened the Whisk Bakery Cafe on Newkirk Avenue a month before disappearing.

A day or two after his body was found near Allentown, his credit card was used at the Woodbury Commons retail outlets in Orange County, NY, sources told The Post.

“I’m devastated. He was a wonderful guy,” said Jan Rosenberg, the real-estate broker who handled the cafe lease for Rubin. “He just seemed like an open, sweet, loving guy with a lot of energy to do this project.”

But a month before opening the cafe, “actually running it began to seem overwhelming” to Rubin, said Rosenberg.

Rubin, who was diabetic, also recently was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, she said.

New York law-enforcement sources said they believe Rubin was shot near the location where his body was set afire.

There are no suspects in the murder of Rubin, who lived in Kensington.

    Means, motive and opportunity?

We know he was shot, we know police believe he was shot in Pennsylvania. That answers the questions of "means" and "opportunity."

Motive? Too soon to tell. But maybe there's a video of the person who used his credit card. Robbery? Then covering up the robbery with murder? That's a black scenario.

The bakery/coffee shop -- now closed -- was across the street from a grade school and about a block from an apartment building in which a number of criminally inclined blacks live.

    pilot xyz says:

    Need to fly United.

So how long will United-Continental stay airborne?

As we know it's the latest combination of other bankrupt airlines, which is hardly news since every airline goes bust after a while.

Here's how it will play. If Obama is re-elected, United Continental will collapse in bankruptcy during his second term.

Why? Fuel costs. The Obama plan to punish oil consumers with high oil taxes will push airlines into bankruptcy -- again.

A couple of years ago, when oil prices were higher, fuel costs were 35% of United's expenses. Today, fuel costs are around 30%. Better, but still hefty.

If Obama gets his way, the taxes will push fuel costs over 40%. That's what Obama wants to do for you.

No one in the Republican field can protect Wall Street from the “pitchforks” as Obama can. Mitt Romney looks and talks like a banker. Newt Gingrich is the personification of Wall Street’s inner misanthrope, racist and crook, who should be hidden from public view at all costs. A GOP gaggle that savages itself for the privilege of singing the praises of the rich can only bring down the wrath of the people on the bankers’ heads. They need The Great Deflector, Obama, to step to the precise center of the circus tent, looking Lincolnesque, or Rooseveltian (Teddy), or even Reaganish, while the GOP clowns soak up the public’s anger at the “1%’s” multitudinous sins.

The bankers will stick with Obama, and outfit him in a billion-dollar suit, the price tag and label detached. The unions and the Black Misleadership Class will sit in the cheap seats, hurling scorn at the evil GOP clowns, made up like Chucky. How many of the “99%” will actually come to the show, or find they have better things to do than be spectators at the Plutocrats & Oligarchs Two Ring Presidential Circus? We shall see. Three months ago, there was no Occupy Wall Street movement, putting out bounties on bankers.

Bank of America settles discrimination suit for $335M

NEW YORK - Bank of America has agreed to pay $335 million to resolve allegations that its Countrywide unit engaged in a widespread pattern of discrimination against qualified African-American and Hispanic borrowers.

The settlement with the U.S. Justice Department was filed Wednesday with the Central District court of California and is subject to court approval. The DOJ says it's the largest settlement in history over residential fair lending practices.

Charlotte, North Carolina-based Bank of America Corp. bought the nation's largest subprime lender, Countrywide Financial Corp., in 2008.

The settlement amount will be used to compensate victims of Countrywide's discriminatory mortgage loans from 2004 through 2007.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan welcomed the $335 million.

Madigan's office filed suit against Bank of America subsidiary Countrywide Financial Corp. in 2010.The settlement, announced Wednesday by the U.S. Department of Justice, stemmed from that lawsuit.

Madigan says Countrywide consistently sold African-American and Hispanic borrowers riskier loans at a higher cost than it sold to white borrowers with similar credit.

United is serving up a heaping pile of bullshit PR for the masses. As a pilot, you really should know better. But apparently you don't.

They are taking used cooking oil, filtering out the bits of tater tots still in there, mixing it with some alcohol, then taking about a gallon of it and dropping it in a 10,000 barrel tank of Jet A. Now it's an "alternative" fuel.

    Alternative reality, maybe.

I hope you know what to do when your engine stalls because the turbine fuel nozzles are clogged with onion ring residue.

I'll stick to other airlines until United starts using real fuel again. And until they get some better pilots who know what the fuck they are talking about.

    Extortion. Pure and simple.

Force banks to give loans to unqualified minorities, which of course they default on, use the resulting economic collapse to get a socialist elected president who then sues the banks for not giving enough loans to unqualified minorites, forces them to pay hundreds of millions of dollars, which then starts another cycle of loaning trillions to unqualified minorities.

This time it should result in the complete collapse of America, and the socialists won't have to bother with elections or that pesky Constitution anymore.

Without criminal charges, admission of wrong doing or any legislation against such practices, Goldman Sachs and other predatory lenders will simply continue to pillage African and oppressed communities with impunity.
This case is another example of the revolving door between the US Treasury, The Federal Reserve and Goldman Sachs' executives. This is the same Goldman Sachs that received the bulk of tax payers' bailout funds. This is the same Goldman Sachs whose previous CEO, Hank Paulson, developed and guided the bailout funds under President Bush, and the same Goldman Sachs for whom Obama's current Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner was employed as a paid lobbyist!

The Obama administration has enlisted a mob of criminals and gamblers to lead the current recovery efforts. They do not wish to gamble with their own money. Despite the current economic crisis these parasitic bankers continue to make billions of dollars by exploiting the African people in the U.S. and oppressed peoples around the world.

The Obama administration and those put forward to resolve this current economic crisis of imperialism cannot solve the problems they created and benefit from. The only solution for African people is the reunification and liberation of Africa and African people around the world and the end to this parasitic system built at the expense of African and oppressed peoples. Build the African Socialist International!

what hobama has given us will never ever be ok by me

There will be no significant recovery in the United States of America while Barack Obama is President. The evidence is overwhelming: everything Obama has tried to fuel a recovery (with his Democratic allies in Congress) has failed. Statistics claiming jobs saved by the stimulus package were mostly fiction, and cost American taxpayers about $275,000 each. Nearly 2-1/2 million fewer Americans have jobs than before the stimulus.

Barack Obama has been President for 30 months—2-1/2 years. He spent the first year obsessed with passing Obamacare, a program that doesn’t create jobs, but might destroy a lot of them. He “bailed out” GM, but many believe that his interference didn’t save GM; it merely cost taxpayers an extra $15-20 billion, and stole from legitimate investors to buy off the UAW. His broken campaign promises are too numerous to list. At some point, his statute of limitations on blaming Bush runs out. The latest joke is that the White House is that named the location of East Coast earthquake near DC “Bush’s Fault.”

I hope he regulates your ass right out of a job, you moron.

They just passed a new restriction on how many hours a pilot can work that will cost the airlines an estimated $300 million.

Although this will make your job even easier, it will also make your industry less profitable, prices will rise, and less people will fly than would have in absence of this cost. Even though pilots cannot work as long, there probably won't be a need to hire more since demand will drop. In fact, they will probably have to let some go.

I hope they start with the dumbest one first. Good luck, Einstein.

YUP and the EU Union just advised it will impose carbon taxes on all airlines even American flagged carriers. Wow, more taxes, higher ticket prices, less passengers, less flights ultimately less pilots, decreased flying hours, increased fuel costs. Damn that global warming hoax is gonna come right back and bite you in that big dumb ass of yours. Then inevitably you will cry racism or conservatives did it - all along not having the wherewithal to realize what democratic fantasies really bring about.

Like I said, I have studied the issue and like I stated I still have a job today because the dems in congress would not allow cabatoge. Do you have a reading conprehension problem? My airline employs over 9,000 pilots and none are in danger of losing their jobs based on oil prices.

Six weeks after you wrote that, American went bankrupt largely because of fuel costs. Your airline is in better shape, primarily because they declared bankruptcy after 9/11 (while American did not). But that's just timing; The economics apply to everyone in the industry, and the increasing direct and indirect (fuel) regulatory costs most certainly put some United pilots in danger of losing their jobs.

    I'll take a thousand.

Airlines live and die on the cost of fuel.

It is only by clever financing devised by people you despise that any individual airline stays in business more than a few years.

Management has some control over some costs, like employee costs and financing costs. But it has no control over fuel costs.

The best an airline can do is use those nasty old derivatives to hedge against rising fuels prices, but even hedging has its risks.

So, as another poster mentioned, the EU is imposing carbon taxes, which will increase ticket prices and reduce operating margins for all flights over there. Pure genius.

Meanwhile, as you seem not to know, the junkyard of failed airlines is bursting with names.

I always got a kick out of Frank Lorenzo at Texas Air. He was a tough bird who brought a bunch of failed airlines under his control. The old People Express. Braniff. A list so long I can't remember all the names. Maybe Eastern was part of that agglomeration.

Anyway, the names change, but the story stays the same. Fuel prices and airport gates.

Value Jet. That was a hot name -- until one of its planes went down in the Everglades because an oxygen cannister in the baggage compartment caught on fire and destroyed the plane in mid-air -- around 1996.

As a result, the whole airline went down. But, through bankruptcy, it rose again.

As you seem unwilling to admit, the airline industry will see bankruptcy after bankruptcy. That's what happens when you mix a service industry with the capital needs of a major manufacturer.

Yeah. Nice try, dimwit. But even if clean, well filtered french fry oil has the energy content to meet aircraft needs, there's no chance there's enough of the stuff to matter.

You screwballs think these alternate fuels are going to power cars, planes, trains, ships, and anything else with an internal combustion engine.

Well, bonehead, if we tried to do that, food would cost as much as gold. It's bad enough that we're using corn for ethanol. But at least the morons can see what that does to food prices.

Food is food. It's not fuel. But then again, you're the same nitwit who thinks that some day soon passengers will fly in electric airplanes.

Slips of paper are pasted to the broken door of the corner row house, violations for the garbage piled near the front steps. The stench of trash wafts up the dark interior stairway, where an ashtray filled with cigarette butts sits like an abandoned potted plant on the second-floor landing.

Nobody lives here, at least not officially.

Given their clandestine lives, it's impossible to say how many people are squatting in this country, but with more than 1.3 million homes in foreclosure and hundreds of thousands of people homeless, advocates say it's safe to assume the number is growing.

Didn't the department of justice also issue guidelines mandating banks consider as income welfare and foodstamps otherwise they would be sued by the department of injustice for discrimination? How does that work, if you are Black and and receivin public assistance you can declare this as income and blame the public if they don't lend you more money?

Is it only Blacks and Hispanics who magically have really good credit ratings and are intelligent enough to manage finances, yet not intelligent enough to read a loan contract and ask about percentages and payment rates?

How can anyone be incapable of understanding what the interest rate and monthly payments are? Is this related to low IQ levels?

Oh Lawd, even Matt Damon, who once zealously supported Obama, has had enough of Obama. He slams Obama in Huffington article, which I concur:

Matt Damon, one of Barack Obama's earliest supporters and once one of his most staunch advocates, slammed the President in the new issue of Elle Magazine.

"I've talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level. One of them said to me, 'Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician,'" Damon tells the magazine. "You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better."

Referring to the Occupy Wall Street movement, Damon continued: "If the Democrats think that they didn't have a mandate -- people are literally without any focus or leadership, just wandering out into the streets to yell right now because they are so pissed off ... Imagine if they had a leader."

In this sciency study it was discovered that amazingly enough humans sem to get tired after being awake for a long time and when these said humans get tired flying airplanes isn't usually one of the recommended activities for them to do. I know I know, if only we could find superhumans who could stay awake indefinitely we could fire some of these lazy pilots who think a 14 hour day is too long especially when they whine about flying in challenging conditions when they've only worked these 14 measly hours. I trust honest science; I don't trust government funded science.

It has been up to the airlines and the unions to determine how long a pilot can work, and they have done a pretty good job based on the exemplary safety record of the airline industry (despite a few obvious morons making the pilot ranks).

A few more regulations (for your own good, of course), and you'll be out of job.

Um genius, who do you think was behind the effort to get the FAA to revamp the fatigue rules that were decades old. ALPA, the world's largest pilots' union. You will never know as much about my industry as me so just play with dirt and try to screw your sister. You ain't smart enough to play in this league.

Actually the FAA sets duty time limits. You and Slappz are knowitalls but don't know jack. Let's see what Lee Moak the president of ALPA has to say about this.

    "Aug 18, 2011
The Air Line Pilots Association International's president, Capt. Lee Moak, opened ALPA's 57th annual Air Safety Forum this week by recalling the association's creation in 1931, when "pilot error" was used as the blanket excuse for all kinds of plane crashes, he said. The event's theme is "One Level of Safety: 80 Years and Counting," which Moak echoed in an Aug. 16 letter urging President Obama to ensure FAA issues a final rule setting pilots' flight, duty, and rest requirements"

Shockingly troll you are wrong again. Seems once again I'm correct about my industry that you pretend to know something about. Typical white guy, wrong and shown up by a brotha. Now go back to your trailer, your sister/girlfriend is getting lonely.

  90. "Overview of the Current Federal Aviation Regulations
Regulations limiting flight time and pilot rest have been in place since the 1940s. The rules for domestic flights do no explicitly address the amount of time a pilot can be on duty. Rather, the rules address flight time limitations and required rest periods. Current FAA regulations for domestic flights generally limit pilots to eight hours of flight time during a 24-hour period. This limit may be extended provided the pilot receives additional rest at the end of the flight. However, a pilot is not allowed to accept, nor is an airline allowed to assign, a flight if the pilot has not has at least eight continuous

hours of rest during the 24-hour period. In other words, the pilot needs to be able to look back in any preceding 24-hour period and find that he/she has had an opportunity for at least eight hours of rest. If a pilot’s actual rest is less than nine hours in the 24-hour period, the next rest period must be lengthened to provide for the appropriate compensatory rest. Airline rules may be stricter than the FAA’s regulations if the issue is part of a collective bargaining agreement."

You see son here's a lesson from a Black man who knows more than you. These are federal regulations that must be followed. Notice near the bottom where it states airline rules MAY be stricter meaning the FAA sets the limits and unions and airlines may set other duty times as long as the federally mandated ones are not exceeded. See, you learned someting today, one thing you learned is to STFU when you have no clue as to what you're talking about. Well, at least you should have.
