“Just so we’re clear, I’m not really into being the ‘black friend,’” Touré began. “If I get that sense that you like me just because I’m black and you’re, sort of, exocitcizing that, then your emails stop getting returned.”
“But the demand for black friends continues, because some people need them to make themselves feel not racist. Take the Republican Party,” Touré continued.
The MSNBC host cited the Republican National Committee’s report on the circumstances which led to their losses during the 2012 election cycle. In the report, the RNC advised the GOP to build inroads and relationships with African-Americans.
“I don’t feel cared about by the GOP at all,” Touré added. “People who respect and care about me don’t try to suppress my vote.”
He said that this, among other issues, is the logical reasoning behind the African-American community’s antipathy towards the Republican Party. “Such is the dysfunctional, abusive relationship the GOP has with black folk,” Touré said. “They say they want a new relationshipwhile continuing to try to screw us over.”
Touré said that Carson has been embraced so quickly by the GOP because he is helpful for “assuaging their guilt.”
“Carson is a brilliant medical thinker, but he’s got intellectual tumors in his mind like a flat tax – which is regressive and ignorant in the face of American wealth inequality where the top 1 percent own 35 percent, and the bottom 60 percent own 2.3 percent,” Touré opined. “I doubt Jesus would tax them equally, just as I doubt the GOP would entertain a white, non-politician with unserious ideas.”
Touré noted that Carson is the beneficiary of a form of “affirmative action” within the Republican Party which elevates minority voices beyond or in spite of their qualifications." [Source]
Maybe it's because he is a Seventh Day Adventist, (happy Sabbath Sis) but I have tried not to rip the republican's new friend, Dr. Ben Carson, over the past few months. Dr. Carson has a great story, and deep down he is a good person. I remember meeting him a few years ago and being impressed with his humble demeanor. Most people with such an impressive resume didn't carry themselves like that. But that was then, and this is now.
But still, I am not going to rip Dr. Carson, especially when Touré just did such a wonderful job of ripping him for me.
Carson seems to come solidly from that Booker T. Washington chain of "up by the bootstrap" black conservatism. Thats as old and solid a black tradition as your own, more WEB DuBois-ish tradition. I don't have any more of a problem with black cons that I do white cons though. I don't see how any thoughtful, intelligent, educated person of good will could support todays KKKGOP.

ReplyDelete"I don't see how any thoughtful, intelligent, educated person of good will could support todays KKKGOP."
That's because you are not a thoughtful, intelligent, educated person of good will.
Equating the GOP with the KKK betrays a lack of any sense or the merest shred of intellectual honesty.
You and Toure and other plantation guards promote a twisted cartoon version of reality where reasonable attempts at limiting voter fraud are portrayed as rascist voter suppression, where any attempt to reach out to blacks is immediately delegitimized, and any blacks who leave the plantation are "ripped" as Toms and sell-outs.
All designed to keep blacks scared to keep them loyal.
My faith in humanity leads me to believe that justice awaits disingenuous liars like you someday. I can't wait for that day to come.
"Touré noted that Carson is the beneficiary of a form of “affirmative action” within the Republican Party which elevates minority voices beyond or in spite of their qualifications."
ReplyDeleteTo paraphrase Touré: Their negroes are beneficiaries of affirmative action; our negroes are not.
Except that Carson is about five times as smart as Touré.
And also except the fact that the current occupants of the White House happen to be the most egregious affirmative action hires of all time.
In a world based on merit, there is no way someone as stupid as Touré gets paid to express an opinion on anything.
"I don't see how any thoughtful, intelligent, educated person of good will could support todays KKKGOP."
ReplyDeleteDr. Carson is a registered Independent, and I'm the same, so it's probably no surprise that I FULLY support him.
And not just because he supports and encourages future and current Black Physicians, but because I haven’t heard him say ANYTHING that I don't agree with.
Speaking at CPAC was a BOLD move and I commend him for having the guts to do it, especially as a Black man.
Again, Black folks desperately need to get over this idea that we all must think the same to promote a Black agenda. Because when the rubber meets the road, Dr. Carson has PUBLICALLY endorsed his support of Blacks (Physicians), yet I'm STILL waiting on President Obama to do the same for ANY group of Black folks.
Let's be clear, Toure isn't really black. He's a Jewish mulatto.

ReplyDeleteI've been a Georgetown fan since the Sleepy Floyd days when they played in the little gym. I knew they weren't going no where because their system is fucked up. A few years back when Princeton was doing well in the tournament, people were like what would this offense be like if there were some black kids running it. Well we've seen it the past couple of years. It holds the black kids back. If Thompson wants to keep running this shitting offense then he needs to take it back to the Ivy League.
So it's no surprise that the white baby murdered in Georgia was shot in the head by two black teens. We need to come up with a way to defuse the connection to Brother Eric Holder siding with the New Black Panther brother who preached that we must "kill the white babies". Whites keep talking about that connection, so we need to call those whites racist to shut them up.

And, you must be able to use them skillfully according to the TRADITIONAL AMERICAN WAY.
Dear RepubMafia Party,
ReplyDeleteIt seems as if you’re up to your old tricks again. When will you guys realize that cherry-picking a House Negro will not increase your black electorate. Haven’t you RepubMafia types figured out that the vast majority of blacks have already figured out your silly tactics. It didn’t work with Herman Cain; it surely wouldn’t work with Jesse Lee Patterson or C.L. Brayant.

Demarquis Executes 19 month old baby in stroller intentionally during robbery
ReplyDeleteBaby killed was white HIspanic - killers were black youths 17
“West earlier told reporters that the incident occurred at 9 a.m. Thursday as she was walking home from the post office, pushing her son Antonio in a stroller.
“A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money, and I told him I didn’t have any money. And he said, ‘Give me your money or I’m going to kill you and I’m going to shoot your baby and kill your baby,’ and I said, “I don’t have any money and don’t kill my baby.”
The boy tried to grab her purse and opened fire when she said tried to tell him she had no money, West said, grazing her head. She said the boy then shot her in the leg.
West continued, “And then, all of a sudden, he walked over and he shot my baby in the face.”
West said she tried to perform CPR on her son and that the police took over when they arrived, but to no avail. “We lost him,” she said. …”
Brother Field, I have a bone to pick with you, regarding Nancy Pelosi. Some time ago, I sincerely and humbly asked you to acknowledge Nancy P for her undying support to Obama. To date, you have not answered or even acknowledged my question.
ReplyDeleteMy dear Brother Field, we need the support of sincere honest people like Pelosi to help us Negroes along. Won't you consider putting Nancy in your sidebar as Field Negro of the Day? She deserves it.
In a country with a real voter turnout of about 30% (60% of the half eligible who register) there's a voting problem alright, and it's not the .0)0001% of the vote that might plausibly be fraudulent (usually a disqualified felon unaware of his dq). When half of the electorate doesn't even buy into the system: it's a crises of legitimacy. That's the problem that I'm worried about. You KKKrs or CCCers or stormfronters or Tbaggers or whatever you call yourself this week aren't my problem. In fact, the more pull you get within your party, the more that the KKK-CCC-Balldipper-GOP tries to disenfranchise the poor, immigrants and minorities the more of them bother to register and vote, so your you're more like my solution.

It never ceases to amaze me how some Black folk align themselves with the Republican Party. It really must take super human abilities to ignore the astounding racism and bigotry at the core of that party.
And, I really have to question Dr. Carson's professional abilities as a surgeon after allowing himself to be the latest in a long line of Black Republican puppets.

Chinua Achebe, best known for "Things Fall Apart," a story of a black man who hated his father intertwined with a story of how that same black man hated the arrival of whites in his part of Africa. So what did the black character do? Naturally, he committed suicide.
Achebe loved Africa -- Nigeria -- so much he left it to become an English instructor in the US.
Fascinating. A black man with the financial means to choose where to live. And he comes here, the place so despised by field's black readers.
Moreover, Achebe, through his writings, made it clear he thought the basic African was a moron, the kind of moron it's best to avoid. A violent, tribal doofus stuck in some primitive past.

ReplyDeletePolice Arrest 2 Teens In Ga. Baby Killing
March 22, 2013
BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — In five years, Sherry West has lost two sons to unspeakable violence.
The Georgia mother was grieving from Thursday’s shooting death of her 13-month-old son in his stroller during an attempted robbery while they took a morning stroll.
In 2008, her 18-year-old son was stabbed in an altercation in New Jersey.
A pair of teenagers was arrested Friday in the most recent shooting.
West had just been to the post office a few blocks from her apartment Thursday morning and was pushing her son, Antonio, in his stroller while they walked past gnarled oak trees and blooming azaleas in the coastal city of Brunswick.
West said a tall, skinny teenager, accompanied by a smaller boy, asked her for money.
“He asked me for money and I said I didn’t have it,” she told The Associated Press Friday from her apartment, which was scattered with her son’s toys and movies.
“When you have a baby, you spend all your money on babies. They’re expensive.
And he kept asking and I just said ‘I don’t have it.’ And he said, ‘Do you want me to kill your baby?’ And I said, ‘No, don’t kill my baby!’”
One of the teens fired four shots, grazing West’s ear and striking her in the leg, before he walked around to the stroller and shot the baby in the face.
Seventeen-year-old De’Marquis Elkins is charged as an adult with first-degree murder, along with a 14-year-old who was not identified because he is a juvenile, Police Chief Tobe Green said.
I respect Dr. Carson eeply as a person and what he’s chosen to do professionally to the utmost. However, in review of how he’s become so chummy with the RepubMafia Party and knowing full well what they truly stand for. This is what has placed me in a state of flummoxation. Moreover, I give his politics a thumb down!
ReplyDeleteThe RepubMafias is the party that’s pushing voter fraud legislation across this Empire of States. By and large, clais of voter fraud is simply an attempt by Republicans to suppress the black vote. Why? Because the vast majority blacks vote for the Democratic Party.
Additionally, the RepubMafias is in fact the party that’s supporting legislation to trample upon and thereby, crush the Voting Rights Act. At bottom, racism was to horrid within certain districts of this Empire of ours merely forty seven years ago, Section 5 of the act required all jurisdictions to get pre-clearance from a three panel judge or the District Court for the District of Columbia prior to making any changes. The RepubMafias want Section 5 either gutted or removed entirely so that they could revert back to the “good ol boy” ways of doing things as it relates to voting (especially designing ways to prevent blacks in particular from voting).
The RepubMafias is also the party that’s promoting the dubiouslky titled “Right to Work laws”. In reality, Right to Work laws are actually designed to either circumvent the authority of unions or pummel them with anti union laws so that they’ll cease to exist. Once union are removed, we may as well kiss the days of bargaining for better pay increases, better working conditions, better health care and a plethora of other things that we’ve become accustomed to and have obviously taken it for granted.
This is why I’m so perplexed by someone as highly intelligent as Dr. Carson is, could be so easily duped by the RepubMafias who are usually on the lower rung of things when it comes to smart legislation at the local, state and federal levels of governments. Almost a hundred percent of the times, legislation drawn by the Republicans, adversely affect people of color, blacks in particular.
Therefore, for some on this blog to be so easily convinced and impressed by Dr. Carson simply because he spoke eloquently to groups of black youngsters who are interested in the medical field is somwhat troubling. To me, this explanation is undoubtedly cheap, superficial and baseless.
In sum, I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised because, apparently, in a faux democracy, the PEOPLE do not get to choose who they are interested in as politics goes. That will be TOO much like a real democracy if the people did in fact chose who they wanted as their leaders. Instead certain people are selected for you by the oligarchy whether you approve of them or not. You either take it peacefully, or it’s shoved down your throat.
Look through the smoke screens folks, Dr. Carson is today’s contemporary House Negro absent the top hat, constantly grinning and a horse and buggy to take his master around on errands.

And to keep this discussion racially open, throw Honey Boo boo and her morbidly obese family in there too!
BTW, what should be "troubling" to you is how President Obama has essentially IGNORED the Black agenda to save his Black a$$ on a national stage. Yet he gets a pass from you and others, so you can be "down" with a brotha'?

ReplyDeletePerhaps because I've SEEN what Dr. Carson has done for minorities interested in being Physicians, I find this one of the most ill-informed statements I've EVER read about a Black person with conservative views.
Unlike Clarence Thomas who used affirmative action to his benefit, then closed the door behind him when he achieved success, Dr. Carson isn't ANYTHING like him, Mr. 999, or Mr. West. NOTHING!

People will indeed judge you by the company that you keep and CPAC and the overall voter-suppressing republicans constitute irreconcilably bad company. The thing is - can we weigh in on Ben Carson, the politician, respectfully, amongst one another without the discourse turning rancorous and, thus, pleasing historical, natural enemies; without it dividing us?
ReplyDeleteI lost friends when, in 2007, I declared that I was adamantly opposed to the candidacy of the POTUS based upon events I observed, firsthand, the day before he went public with his candidacy. While living in D.C., then, I observed him snubbing the Black Harvard Law Alumni as well as Senator Emeritus Edward Brooke (MA), a group of Black North and South Carolinians, and I got wind of his man-crush on Reagan, as well. I also found out that he skewed to the right pertaining to Chicago politics from some trusted Chicagoans. My friends weren't happy when I shared all of these things with them---especially when I invoked Fanon. Thus, perhaps it's inevitable that we fall out over such things, but if we allow the passion for the betterment of our collective to bind us, perhaps we can weather the storm.
If I could speak to former Detroiter Ben Carson, I would bring my formal training as a political scientist and analyzer of history to bear by asking him,
"Just how do you stand with those who worked strenuously to disfranchise voters, through voter suppression, who look just like you?
"How do you side with the political party that socially engineered the scariness of you upbringing such that the knife that you plunged into the gut of your friend, had the knife been even a half an inch over in any direction, would've probably doomed your illustrious career and put your friend six feet deep?"
"Why should we asking anyone serious political questions who once plunged a knife into the gut of their friend, regardless of your accomplishments?
There's certainly a lot that he'd have to answer for - were I allowed to question him.
The hell with DrC Why so much energy about a person whose choice to be at CPAC is NUNYA?
ReplyDeleteWith our children killing an being killed Isn't there anything else?
