Girl fight, and Paula finds a friend in the house.

I just got back from New York. (Shout out to Harlem.) As usual, I had a good time meeting my fellow bloggers at the Blogging While Brown conference and learning some tricks of the blogging trade.

Keep up the good work, people.

So anyway, I am a big tennis fan, and I have enjoyed Serena's recent run to the top of the tennis world at the ripe young age of 31.

Unfortunately for Serena, though, she has found herself in some hot water after her comments about the Steubenville, Ohio rape victim.

"World tennis number one Serena Williams has apologized after reportedly appearing to criticise the victim in a high-profile US rape case.

Rolling Stone magazine quoted her as saying the teenager in the Steubenville, Ohio, case "shouldn't have put herself in that position".

Williams has now released a statement on her website saying she was "deeply sorry for what was written".

I am glad she apologized; it's never good to blame the victim.

But this post isn't so much about Serena's comments as it is the response to it by one of her biggest rivals. Actually, I take that back. Serena has owned Maria Sharapova. This is not a real rivalry.

So anyway, Sharapova had some choice words for Ms. Williams, and she makes it personal by taking a shot at her [Serena's] alleged boyfriend for good measure.

“At the end of the day, we have a tremendous amount of respect for what we do on the court. I just think she should be talking about her accomplishments, her achievements, rather than everything else that’s just getting attention and controversy,”

...If she wants to talk about something personal, maybe she should talk about her relationship and her boyfriend that was married and is getting a divorce and has kids,” Sharapova continued.

Ouch! I hate to be messy, but dem there is fighting words.

Although, to be fair, maybe she went there because Serena went there first.

"According to the Rolling Stone story, posted online Tuesday, Williams spoke about what the reporter described as “a top-five player who is now in love.”
Williams is quoted as saying: “She begins every interview with ‘I’m so happy. I’m so lucky’ — it’s so boring. She’s still not going to be invited to the cool parties. And, hey, if she wants to be with the guy with a black heart, go for it.”

That is followed by these words in parentheses from the author of the piece, Stephen Rodrick: “An educated guess is she’s talking about Sharapova, who is now dating Grigor Dimitrov, one of Serena’s rumored exes.” [Source]

When does Wimbledon start? I can't wait.

Finally, like death and taxes we knew it was coming: Paula Deen's black friend.

"SAVANNAH, Georgia (CNN) - The Food Network announced Friday that it will not renew the contract of Paula Deen after she admitted using a racial epithet – but a black pastor who is friends with the celebrity chef said she "can't be a racist."

Deen apologized Friday for "the wrong that I've done," a move that follows revelations this week that she admitted saying the N-word.

But Pastor Gregory A. Tyson Sr. from First Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia, defended Deen to WTOC, a CNN affiliate.

"I know her," Tyson said. "My children have been to her house. I've been to her house, I've sat on her furniture. I've been all through her house. What racist would let a black man walk all through her house?"[Source]

Thank you Pastor, you can go back to the house now.

I am so glad that I have the Drop Squad on speed dial.

Paula Deen had a gun held to her head in 1986 by a black criminal, and now she's political enemy number one for daring to have referred to this cretin as a nigger.

    Go figure.

    Just another day in BRA.

And if she had had a gun held to her head by a white criminal, I guess you'd call that criminal a cracka and would be ok. Shut it Kersey.

And Serena was right: homegirl shouldn't haveput herself in that position. She was underage and drinking with people who apparently weren't her friends, so they videotaped it and made fun of her instead of beating the rapists' asses. However, had the girl not been drinking, they would've chosen another victim.

I hope the victim sets them all on fire as revenge.

    She was drinking with negroes.

You are right, she brought it upon herself.

Field, I have commented on the previous two threads that my girl Paula was not a racist. However, you did not reply. You just 'want' her to be a racist in your deluded mind, don't you? You can't get it that just because some white person uses the N-word, they aren't necessarily racist.

I don't see you bitching about all the N-words your FN Negroes throw around everyday on this blog. NSangnoma ought to be banned from FN because he uses it regularly and you never called him a racist. Why?

And what about Frank D? You never called him a racist either. But you will beat up on Paula who was just being honest while the rest of your "Lib" Dem Whites lie through their teeth.

I stand with the Reverend, he ought to know more about Paula than you do.

Brother Field, Serena might own Maria in tennis matches but she sure as hell don't beat Sharapova in looks, does she? I mean, it's not even close.

Field, "Finally, like death and taxes we knew it was coming: Paula Deen's black friend."

Brother Field, what's wrong with Paula having a black friend? Who are you to deny her a black friend?

This is America, brother. Everybody has the right to be friends with whomever they chose. Back in the day, even George Wallace and Bull Connor had black friends.

So leave Paula and Rev JLP alone.

  9. Jesus.
Folks are really trippin'. As someone that read the filings for the formal complaint (not just the Twitter hashtags), its more than just her use of the N-word. She was creating a hostile environment. The sexist and racist garbage in that complaint was ridiculous to see in print in 2013. For all the folks saying the backlash is uncalled for, would you feel differently about it if it was Oprah that made statements about Jewish dressing like Holocaust detainees? "Lets have then serve my guests with numbers written on them and in tattered rags?"
That's the equivalent to what Paula Deen did to African Americans. And what folks say about AAs use of the N-word is not an excuse. Homosexuals have famously took the word "queer" back from those that would use it to smear them. Its a similar situation with AAs. Given the dark history of this country, when Caucasians use it in the manner Paula Deen used it, it was NOT a compliment.
Finally, WHY come to a site that is specifically for uplifting and informing African Americans of news that affects us, to bitch, moan and scream about how racist AAs are? What is the point? No one here is really listening to your rant, and you just look like an asshole.
    Sigh.
    Okay, I'm done. LOL

DevyneMyzT, you are using a racist name. What gives with that? That's like using the N-word and I don't appreciate it. You white folks make up all kinds of shit to mask your racist words, but I got your ass this time.

  15. Paula's gotten rich off a cuisine created mainly by southern people of color, in hovels, in houses, in mansions, in restaurants. For decades, If one wanted great Southern cuisine in Cape May NJ (a southern city for most of its history), one went to the pricey restaurant at the exclusive Virginia Hotel, presided over by an African-American chef & her family. The fried chicken reputedly was to die for.

    1. paula deen ( no caps)

i do not believe that the N word is the issue as much as the cavalier manner with which Deen says what she says.
    http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2013/06/paula-deen-racial.php

She is a typical cave woman with immense popularity, and perhaps she really believes that she can say what she wants to her house negros with impunity
    Obviously not;)
Her attitude is why i will never work for anyone and why being self employed kept me free;)

@2 House negro to the rescue

And i wonder if he has relatives (he is a desc of slaves) hmmmmm

Colleague, i believe that the good Rev is seeing deens beauty via rose colored forgiving lenses and as a man of GOD?
He cannot possibly know her heart, he cannot know her pain, her self hate, or her disgust as long as he sits at her table..
Both of them are have an agenda and the only diff is that he is a house negro with a bible and she is his owner

    3 Serena my gurl
Serena is like me "in ya face DROP " strai8ht up Compton straight up South end"
We all know that blaming the survivor is never kewl

And perhaps my gurl could use a sit down and a long talk with a few survivors
    i would recommend that
when she comes back to Fla, i will try to find a way to invite her to Milagros"

Like you i love the drop squad and cannot wait for the next throwdown between the two

Serena is unrelenting and one can tell by the way she puts the whoop ass on Sharapova that its with vengeance

Last night bro i had an op to spend the night in St Anns Bay and sip sorrel ;))) dayummmmmmm
On the way to Havana now

Ps Field in Cuba and in Matanzas we make Sorrell but never like Jamaicas why is that lmao!

  18. Paula Deen comes from a time (long gone) when these words were common utterance from the superior (by force) race. Being in the first class of integration, I attended Jefferson Davis Jr. High where ALL the teachers had confederate flags on their lapels and they were not cordial to us. Ms. Deen, living in the South, was infected by the social pool we all were in. today is just like night and socially and I am of the opinion that she, like me, have days- when stressed-revert back to the times of superior-inferior relationships. As far as her giving to Black kids- as one Black minister stated-, the question should be why Blacks are still in a condition of having to receive these crumbs from the wealthy. Until the loot of white wealth is taken back, Blacks will continue to have this inferior status and this offensive feelings by name calling will continue. I want the stolen wealth to be distributed and then you can call Larry all the "offensive" names in the lexicon....but I will be calling me "satisfied". Please... save the comments from poor whites who families had less than mine and the Blacks who don't know their linage.. I am talking about BOA and all the legacy money- not the money stored in socks under the bed. I am sorry to get off topic- but to continue to have these moments when we were offended again. Put that energy into making wealth for us as a people, then those names would not mean a damn. I am of the age (62) of Paula Deen and daily I have to hold my tongue in this "new" world.

  20. I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE Screamapova with the red hot intensity of 1 million suns.

And yeah, a LOT of that has to do with ungracious defeat of Serena waaaayyy back in the day for her first major win (French open?). The rest has to do with the fact of that if Serena and Venus were White, they'd have enough money from endorsements to live 100 lifetimes SUPER rich.

As for Paula Deen , why is it that "white" folks with Black ancestors are ALWAYS the most racist?

    ReplyDelete
