Tearful apology not needed, and the evolution deniers.

I must say that it's nice to be home. I always enjoy my vacations, but I enjoy coming home after a long time away even more.

Anyway, I caught Melissa Harris-Perry's tearful apology about her comments relating to Mitt Romney's (adopted) grandchild, and I have to tell you that I was incensed.

I know that I was one of the people saying that the panel on her show should have just left the issue of this child alone, but the right has blown this thing way out of proportion, and they are now using it to try and revive Mitt's political fortunes.

I have said this before and it is worth repeating: Nobody plays the victim card like these wingnuts. Sarah Palin has made a career out of it. (I see you Mr. Bashir)

The sad thing is, of course, that the right will vilify their political enemies and their children and they will never have to apologize for their actions. This is called a double standard.

Now quoting my man, Jason Easley:

"Harris-Perry took responsibility for the segment, even though she never said what the right accused her of saying. Her apology was heartfelt, intelligent, and insightful. It was typical of what viewers see on her program every weekend. What it wasn’t was necessary.

MHP brought up a great point about families being off limits, but that is something that the same critics that have called for her to be fired have ignored when it comes to President Obama and his family. The fact that Harris-Perry has now apologized multiple times raises the question why do those on the left have to apologize multiple times for things that Republicans get away with daily?
Please spare me the argument that the left is somehow morally superior to the right, and thus held to a higher standard. The left, right, and center are all the same. Partisans like to think that they are morally superior, but each are still human being expressing political views that should be held to the same standard.

The problem is that there is a basic hypocrisy in the media that allows the right to not be held accountable bad behavior. Not only is the right allowed to get away with worse things than the MHP segment on a daily basis, but no one on the left is ever cut the same slack.

Harris-Perry turned her apology into a teaching moment. She demonstrated once again why she is one of the best on cable news. However, the apology was unnecessary. The left should resolve to only apologize when the right is held to the same standard of accountability for their behavior. The only way that the media will ever treat them fairly is if it is demanded. "

Amen!

Finally, there is a new poll out showing that most republicans do not believe in evolution. Yes, the majority of them indeed believe that man has been in his current form since creation.

To them, evolution, like climate change, is a liberal creation. It is not to be believed because the scientists who come up with these ideas are leftists. They have a hidden agenda. Science is not to be believed. It is your preacher and local Tea Party person who has all the answers. No wonder we keep hearing crazy stories about people like this.

"That's what makes the evolution survey extraordinary: The Republican Party is achieving the seemingly impossible feat of becoming even more theological. Democrats and independents haven't moved much in their views, while Republicans took a sharp turn toward fundamentalism.

As a matter of political Darwinism, the Republicans' mutation is not likely to help the GOP's survival. As the country overall becomes racially diverse and more secular, Republicans are resolutely white and increasingly devout. If current trends persist, it will only be a couple of decades before they join the dodo and saber-toothed tiger."

Now now, apparently there was no "dodo" or "saber-toothed tiger" to begin with.

Folks on the left are always apologizing to the right wing. But right wingers never apologize.

The Colts, Chiefs game was outstanding. I could care less who won which made it even better to watch. Let's see how the Eagles do.

    Nice one.

Republicans in Congress went home for the holidays and let that lifeline expire.

My thoughts are that the right seem to have more media power. It's as if they have more clout and are like a sacred cow that can't be touched. As we saw with the Robertson broohaha. They are winning.

  7. For liberals, "choice" applies only to abortion while everything else the government decides for you.

Likewise they believe in evolution for everything except when it comes to differences in human populations, particularly intelligence.

Liberals are neither pro-choice or evolutionists.

from a yardie..the synchroncity of this post is really great..i had just finished reading a news post on michelle perry's tearful apology ..before going to field negro i actually googled 'what black people think of michelle harris apology"
the reason was i also was incensed.so i was very pleased to see field was on it!
I watched an online video presentation featuring michelle harris perry and Bell Hooks who is a black woman with some great insights into breaking down both patriarchy and white supremacy ..I heard enough in this presentation to know that both these women know pretty much whats going down when you do a 21th century electronic version of scrape and bow...these women both had moments when they gave some scathing critiques of how white supremacy often forces black people and people of colour into subservient positions.. it is this knowing on their part that makes me even more INCENSED ..about this tearful apology ...its a 21th century version of scraping and bowing to the plantation owner...didnt see mitt romney give any tearful apology over his 47 % of the population references or even address some of the racist tenets in mormonism's past...
what i want some one to do is ask Bell hooks what she thought of all this..
mhp was wrong to make this joke in the first place...it was absolutely horrible and this ' tearful " apology on the same level..step and fetch it ...and that person calling it a teachable moment...
    give me a break...
oh they meant ' teaching ' folks not to listen to her and her ilk in the first place?

You have GOT to be kidding. Field, this is America, THE bastion of racism against Blacks. If Whites are going to extinct, so will Blacks.

So my question to you is: "What's the point of being a big "R" chaser when racism will be 'extinct' soon?

Why NOT shut down FN today?

I've about have had my fill of MHP. She is a 'sell-out' much like Dyson and Rev Sharpton. They have been in this MSM for 'themselves' and nobody else.

Having worked in the media myself, what comes to my mind is that MHP is tearfully apologizing NOT because she is sorry, but afraid of losing her job. She is trying manage the damage she has done.

It's too late. MSNBC fired Martin Bashir for inappropriate words about Palin. MHP should be let go also.

OTHERWISE, IT'S A DOUBLE STANDARD....I am thankful to Bill for bringing awareness of "double standards"...it 'should' stir the conscience to do the 'right thing', which is to fire her.

PS. All of this proves that MSNBC is a schlock outfit with schlock reporters.

I just found the video clip and saw it. Since I don't watch much TV I hadn't seen it. Gotta admit, quite honestly,it's pretty bad! X(

I don't know how she can repair that kind of damage. Because It's a baby they are heartlessly referring too. Quite frankly they should all go.

That child will one day see this. Hopefully not but in all pr9obability he will. I mean they're talking about a child this way on national TV!

Singing and laughing. It's not a funny thing to begin with. The adoption of Black children by white families is a serious and highly debatable issue. Not a funny.

They should have never used that particular picture to begin with. That was the first mistake and should be, unfortunately, the first head to roll.

    Just my two cents...

MHP is probably in trouble. I really don't want to hear what O'Reilly, Krauthammer, FOX NEWS and the GOP are going to say. What that MSNBC panel said about Mitt Romney and his grandchild is reprehensible and immoral....Heartlessl and mean-spirited...it hurts many more families than the Romneys.

Children are sacred beings, sent by GOD...It matters NOT the color, children are precious beings who cannot defend themselves. Hence it is an evil act for an adult to dump on them for a joke.

There is something wrong with MHP's heart and her connection to the Sacred.

I have said this before and it is worth repeating: Nobody plays the victim card like these wingnuts. Sarah Palin has made a career out of it. (I see you Mr. Bashir)"

Field, have you ever considered the premise that if folks like Bashir and MHP did not make obvious low scum statements that could only come from a sewer mind, then the right wouldn't have much to attack.

But BOTH of these Leftists made it easy. It's almost as if they wanted to destroy their own careers...meaning they gave their jobs to the GOP on a silver platter to destroy.

So you can complain what is happening to MHP but you and I both know this is too easy of a target with a great big bulls eye just the way the Repubs like it. I mean, a moron could hit it.

I say moron, because MHP made an offensive irreparable hurtful moronic statement that invited harsh criticism from BOTH the right and left.

She's done. MSNBC cannot afford to keep her. She is now a minus sign and you can take this to the bank: FOX will keep hammering along with others until MHP is gone from MSNBC.

She will survive as a prof in college which is where she belongs.

You know, it's really sad, because I think she really did mean no harm. But, they were in a joking mood. The section itself was supposed to be humorous with a few comedians.

But, they should not have used this photo in the first place.

While I think she was just carried away in a spur of the moment thing. She said it, she laughed, it's a child. It's a delicate and controversial subject. And she blew it.

Unfortunately, some things, once they are said, can never be taken back. Mistakes are made, but mistakes have consequences.

To top it off, her apology, which I just watched also. Did not sound sincere, even with all the crying.

She should have explained what really happened. Which I think/believe is that she got caught up in the fact that it was supposed to be a humorous spot! She let herself be carried away by the others.

I don't think she wants to admit to this though, as it would be a sign of admission of weakness or submission of sorts on her part. As well as putting the blame on the others.Which they should all share.

This is noble of her, but will be quite damning anyway.

I wish her luck. She has the best intentions, that's obvious but....mistakes are costly sometimes...

  20. Trollonymous11:15 PM

Sorry, I don't understand the big deal about her apology. I GET what she was trying to say, unprofessional, but I get it. You are all afraid to say it, the child does look ODD there and out of place. Mitt was exploiting the little black child anyway. Get mad about THAT. I might be living under a bridge, but that's near child abuse if you ask me.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Anonymous11:39 PM

They coulda said it,that the Romney's adopted the child to exploit him for political gain.

But not in a humorous way, with the song and the guffaws.

At another time in another spot.

Just not as a funny joke, because then they're the ones that are exploiting the child. It's not the child's fault.

I'm just wondering what made MHP lose her cool that way. Was she told by MSNBC to make it a light hearted, fluffy show.

That's why I love the Al-Jazeera channel, they don't mess around. Always things of interest. Real problems analyzed and documentaries, with a minimal to no fluff!

Hate that fluff and humor! If I want to laugh, I'll watch a comedian do a routine. If I want to feel warm and fuzzy, I'll watch a teary movie (which I never do) but if I'm watching a news channel, gottdamit, gimme the news, all of it! All the way, serious, hard, and furious! No fluff!

See what the friggin end of year fluff got that station? I don't see them laughing now!!!

Also Mrs. Romney should be the one holding the baby not Mitt! It becomes so obvious when he holds the child, The exploitation!!!

That photo is all sorts of wrong. That's why I feel it was not for that moment. Too serious!

Wow, all these FN Negroes know so much about Romney's motives for adopting the black grandchild.

Have you considered that you might be wrong? It always amazes my that Blacks know so much about Whites motives. If we know so much, then why haven't we been able to exploit them for our own benefit?

Why are we still on the bottom if we so damn smart?

The truth is we don't know, and I doubt we will ever know. Hence, it's better to accept Romney and the child as grandfather and grandchild, INSTEAD of making up shit your heads and thinking it's true and running like a damn fool with it.

While I do like seeing blah people hosting their own shows I think folks like MHP, Karen Finey, Rev Al and man I forgot that one sista's name are good guests and guest hosts but that's it. Field, "Anyway, I caught Melissa Harris-Perry's tearful apology about her comments relating to Mitt Romney's (adopted) grandchild, and I have to tell you that I was incensed."

Are you incensed at MHP... the MSNBC host you 'like'? Or are you angry at MSNBC? Or maybe both?

You see, MHP is operating out of 'desperation'...

Fear of losing her job and reputation. In other words, her J.O.B. is on the line with MSNBC.

Surely you can understand that? Some of us have been 'there'. So have a little 'mercy' for her. I am sure if she could do it all over again, things would be different.

But it's too late and she will suffer for her mistake. However, she will benefit from this mistake by becoming a more sensitive decent human being.

Go back and read prior thread regarding MHP's comment and see what I said. I've said all I to say on the subject. I never had anything to say about Mitt's intentions or his adopted grandson. If I had something to say, I would have said it back then because I am not on anyone's payroll. Nonetheless, I did not have anything to say about it one way or the other.

    However, I will say this:

Those on the right have said some real low-down dirty things about the President's daughters, mother, mother-in-law, and wife. That's not cool either.

By now the whole world knows about the stunt that MSNBC anchor Melissa Harris-Perry pulled this weekend. Apparently under the impression that she was being clever, she donned tampon earrings and advised women in the Texas legislature to wear them as a means of protesting anti-abortion legislation.

In response to this, Dennis Miller cleverly quipped that she should only be allowed to do her show once a month for five days. Oh, yeah. He also called her a moron.
