It's open thread night, people, and I need your thoughts on a few things:The main topic in America these days is the alleged Brett Kavanaugh sexual assault against a then 15 year old girl.
Will it derail his chance to be the deciding vote in eliminating Roe v. Wade and a woman's right to do as she pleases with her own body?
I am seeing a lot of signs pointing towards him being guilty as charged. But I don't want to "rush to judgement". I am trying to give Kavanaugh the fairness that republicans failed to give his accuser.
Anyway, even with everything going on, do you think he will still be confirmed? Or do you think the spotlight is shining too brightly on him and his fellow republicans to go through with his confirmation?
The other big question mark is about the accuser: Should she testify Monday and face the republican kangaroo court? Or should the FBI conduct a further investigation as she requested before she goes forward with her testimony?
And should "Baggage Claim Becky" be added to the ling list of white folks who rely on the police to make them feel more comfortable when they interact with black folks?
Finally, should the racist school superintendent in Texas be allowed to keep his job after exposing that he is a flat out racist by accident on social media?

Yes, I think he will be confirmed no matter what. He could be proven guilty, conclusively — there could be a high-resolution videotape of him trying to get his rape on — and it would make zero difference to Republicans’ determination to confirm him. Because any delay in confirming Kavanaugh would mean waiting until the new year to deal with the SCOTUS appointment, by which time there’s a possibility the Dems would be in control of the Senate and able to throw monkey wrenches.
So Kavanaugh will be confirmed, and they will not wait for the FBI to do any kind of official police investigation of the rape allegation, either, because an investigation would mean delay and, again, the GOP are not doing that.
Who was it that told trump not to nominate Kavanaugh? Wasn't it Grassley or Hatch? Maybe they knew all along. This seems like a brilliant move by the Dems. Payback is a bitch😂

ReplyDeleteTrump and his WH staff certainly knew about this allegation against Kavanaugh when they vetted him for nomination. That letter from 65 women testifying to Kavanaugh’s non-rapey character isn’t something you can whip up in 5 minutes.
Obviously, Trump thought this was an issue that could be dealt with, and that he could rely on Republicans to not give a shit and push Kavanaugh’s confirmation through. And he was probably correct.

ReplyDeleteIt’s tempting to think that Trump might have chosen Kavanaugh over other candidates who do not have sexual assault allegations against them, specifically because of his ideas about executive power. Kavanaugh has written several articles in the past that suggest he may believe presidents are immune from prosecution during their term of office. At least, that is one reasonable interpretation of his writing.
So, sure, maybe Kavanaugh was nominated mainly because he is committed to being Trump’s official ass-coverer in the event the Bob Mueller files criminal charges against Trump himself. Who knows?

Your nonsense assertion aside, the point is, there is no documentary evidence, no police reports, no video recording, not even any third party corroboration from potential witnesses. There is no way this can ever be proved one way or the other.
So, do yo believe the guy with a decades long spotless public record who has passed six FBI background checks, or the highly partisan woman with a fuzzy recollection of something that happened during high school 36 years ago, that may or may not have been a crime, where everyone involved was a minor?
The fact the Democrats held this information for two months so that it could be sprung at the last minute tells you how weak they believe it to be.

No, moron from iowa. I have never even been to Connecticuit, where this family lives. It was Gregory Wallace who taught the little girl to fear Black men. But Judge Olu Stevens blamed the victim:
"I am offended. … I am deeply offended that they would be victimized by an individual and express some kind of fear of all black men," he said.
Olu Stevens should not merely be removed from the bench for this. He is unfit to serve as an officer of the court and should have long since been disbarred.
