No end in sight.

Image result for coronavirus trump images virus

I am watching yet another trump press conference that is supposed to calm our fears about this virus, and once again I am left wondering how we elected this man to be the leader of this country. He seems to be way over his head, and his meandering tortuous delivery is not helping me to feel any better about where we are.

In in his earlier press conferences he claimed that he knew that there was a pandemic before everyone else, and just yesterday he said that it (the virus) just kind of snuck up on us and no one saw it coming. He just said in the conference going on now that this type of pandemic is unprecedented and no one could have seen it coming.

Someone should remind him that the Obama administration tried to warn his transition team about this very scenario when they prepped them about what to expect. The trump folks, in classic trump fashion, ignored them and actually cut funding to programs that were meant to fight pandemics such as this.

A reporter just asked trump to give the bottom line number of how long we can expect this to drag out. His answer was the one he has been giving us all along: "We should know something shortly."

Heaven help us!

Oh and before I go, does anyone know of any good movies on Netflix or Prime that I should be watching? This shelter in place edict is starting to get to me.

The Chernobyl miniseries is pretty great.

Then again, maybe it’ll be too anxiety-provoking watching pig-headed politicians lie and screw up as a national disaster unfolds. It might remind you too much of a certain orange-tinted leader in the US.

“So Ron the fuck Johnson thinks that nine million Americans dying is just ducky.”

The scenario Johnson is advocating for is the insane one in which herd immunity is achieved by 60% of the country getting infected. Basically, it’s the “do nothing and let everyone get sick” plan (assuming the virus self-limits at 60% and not some lower number).

It’s sociopathic that Johnson’s okay with 3.4% of all Americans dying in order to avoid a blow to the economy caused by suppression efforts. And also stupid, since at least some of the 3.4% are bound to be people Johnson cares about (including maybe Johnson himself).

But hey, the dead would probably just be old people, who are “economically unproductive” anyway. Perhaps Johnson’s a fan of the movie Logan’s Run?

Field, there two good series on Netflix if you don't mind a lot of violence. Peaky Blinders is set in England shortly after the end of WWI and Mind Hunters is loosely based on the development of the profiling of serial killers.

The first two episodes of Peaky Blinders are a little slow, but after that the action never stops. The character development is good, and the dialogue is realistic and convincing.

‘A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention analysis of U.S. cases from Feb. 12 to March 16 released Wednesday shows 38 percent of those sick enough to be hospitalized were younger than 55.’"

Extensive data from the China and South Korea epidemics indicated that older people are likely to get far sicker than younger people do from COVID-19.

So I think what the CDC’s analysis really suggests is that young people, being the irresponsible social animals they typically are, are blowing off the “social distancing” recommendations and are getting infected at alarming rates. And we just aren’t able to see this because most of them have mild or no symptoms.

So the young people getting seriously sick don’t represent a large percentage of a small infected population, but rather a small percentage of a very large infected population.

This would obviously be bad news, but we can’t know for sure until testing becomes widespread enough to get an accurate picture of the epidemic. Right now, we’re sorta flying blind.

The guy who said on Univison:

The guy who threw his recently deceased grandmother under the bus when he called her "a typical white person".

After five white Dallas police officers were murdered at a BLM demonstration in July 2016, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said, “I would not describe the White House as concerned about these protests. They’re exercising their freedom of speech, they’re exercising their freedom of assembly. That’s a good thing. That’s a good start.”

Obama in his autobiography quoting Jeremiah Wright: "It is this world, a world where cruise ships throw away more food in a day than most residents of Port-au-Prince see in a year, where white folks' greed runs a world in need, apartheid in one hemisphere, apathy in another hemisphere...That's the world! 31. So now the stay at home order is statewide here. Didn't plan on going anywhere for a while anyway, as it's still snowing. Got out and walked up to the mailbox (three blocks or so, distance wise, although there aren't really any blocks up here) and the only real hard part was getting through the snow between the driveway and the road.

King county in Washington has decided not to wait for the federal government to do anything meaningful about the situation and have bought a hotel and a motel in which to isolate infected people who don't need to be hospitalized and are building a temporary 200 bed hospital in a soccer field.

There are likely going to be a lot of places in about three weeks that will be wishing they had taken that kind of action as their hospital capacity becomes overwhelmed and they can no longer deal with the regular patients they normally treat, along with the massive influx of very sick, very contagious patients.

Pretty sure Di Fi didn’t tell the public that Trump was doing a wonderful job and everything would be fine with the coronavirus, at the same time she was dumping her stock.

But Burr did. This is from the op-ed Burr wrote, while he was also warning his rich buddies a shitstorm was coming and selling off all his stock: “... the United States today is better prepared than ever before to face emerging public health threats, like the coronavirus.”

Regretably, the United States is NOT well prepared.

It’s abundantly clear from the evidence that all the Republicans in Congress privately admit they know what a festering sack of garbage Trump is, even if they kiss his ass in public.

The temporary measure, which will throw many a travel plan into disarray, comes in response to a rapidly spreading coronavirus outbreak that has sickened thousands of people around the world and killed hundreds in China, where it originated in the central city of Wuhan.

The restriction will go into effect Sunday (Feb. 2) at 5pm, applying to any foreign national who has been in China in the last 14 days, said Alex Azar, secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary, at a White House media briefing.

An exception will be made for immediate family of US citizens and permanent residents, he said, but a mandatory 14-day quarantine awaits US citizens who’ve traveled to China’s Hubei Province within the last two weeks. Before this a federal quarantine order hadn’t been issued since the 1960s.

Azar added that Americans returning from other parts of China will face screening at select ports of entry and be asked to perform a 14-day “self-isolation” period at home, with local health officials monitoring their condition.

According to a report from Axios, the combination of an undying belief in the leadership abilities of Donald Trump and a mistrust of the media will likely lead followers of the president in rural communities to be hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic — possibly even harder than in densely-populated cities.

The report begins by stating, “The demographics, work patterns and media habits of President Trump’s base are putting many of his supporters at elevated risk for the health and economic impacts of coronavirus, ” before adding, “National surveys, including the Axios-Ipsos Coronavirus Index, found that Republicans and Midwesterners have been more likely to respond with less urgency than Americans who identify as Democrats or live in coastal centers.”

The central prop is a massive 1967 Ford Galaxy fastback which the doctor ably docks in an old, tiled, carriage house attached to a mansion in downtown Mexico City. He listens to loud classical music on his Philco-Ford stereo as he chain smokes just before flattening a dogshit with his rear tire. It revolves around the life of a maidservant of the family. She is a beautiful young girl with strong Indian features who is beloved by the children and shouted and cursed by the patrician father. Her friend, another maid, has a swinging boyfriend with a brand new Dodge Valiant. A great guy who never hurts her. I haven't finished the movie yet. But there is a wild sequence where the wealthy Mexicanos gather at a large resort to shoot guns in the day and cavort in the nights in a huge hacienda. Great period piece.

The answer is no, not all black men are not gay. You are making the usual mistake that conservatives make. It's called jumping to conclusions. It's logic error, a variant of the hasty generalization fallacy. For more info on how to think logically, pick up a book on critical thinking or logic and read it.

“Why does Russia, population 146 million, have fewer coronavirus cases than Luxembourg?”

Because Russia has a less successful economy than Western Europe?

You will note that the nations that have been affected earliest (besides China, where the virus originated) are the wealthiest ones. This is because these are the countries that do the most global trading and traveling.

Russia is basically a petrostate at this point. They don’t produce much useful stuff outside of oil and gas, so people are less likely to be traveling in and out of Russia on business. I doubt Russia gets that much in the way of tourism, either.

This epidemic has been spread overwhelmingly through legal travel, of the business and personal variety, not through illegal migration.

In other words, all he had to do to appeal to the "trailer park" was make them believe that the black and brown boogey men are their enemies and that the black and brown boogey men are the reason why the trailer park folks haven't become millionaires and billionaires.

It works all the time...it keeps the low class whites hating non-whites while their real enemies (corporations) keep getting richer and richer.

...and they say black folks like to play the race card.... Ha! Ha!

Lilac, whether it will be offered is up to the FDA. The drugs won’t be offered unless they are effective and safe.

The “effective” part is obvious — the drug has to meaningfully improve the condition of a large enough percentage of patients.

The “safe” part is relative. If a drug has extremely unpleasant or dangerous side effects (I think that the malaria drug can cause blindness), then it wouldn’t be given to patients with milder cases of COVID-19, but might be used on someone who was at death’s door.

But it’s too early at this point to know if the stuff Trump was talking about can be used on anybody.

Other drugs are also in trials — an antiviral flu med called favipiravir and an HIV med called remdesivir have shown some promise. But, again, who knows at this point if they will be good enough to win approval.

  151. Yale researcher finds that violent deaths increase under Republican Presidents: (h/t: Crooks and Liars)

Yale psychiatrist and violence expert Bandy Lee revealed on Sunday a study which found that violent deaths tend to increase when Republicans control the White House.

Lee tweeted about the study on Sunday after a follower noted that a Democratic president would have handled the coronavirus threat much differently than the current Republican president.

"I did a study that showed consistently, over 110 years, Republican presidencies increase violent death rates, while Democratic presidencies decrease them," Lee explained. "Same with economic variables. Ordinarily, we would label one disease and the other health."

"You do not ordinarily think of the difference of party as a difference of death versus life, and yet here it is," she added. "Controlling for all other variables, the party difference was decisive."

Lee also shared some data from the study showing how violent deaths increase during Republican presidencies.

Although the research covers a period between 1900 and 2010, Lee seemed to connect the historic data with President Donald Trump's current handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Several months before the coronavirus pandemic began, the Trump administration eliminated a key American public health position in Beijing intended to help detect disease outbreaks in China, Reuters has learned.

The American disease expert, a medical epidemiologist embedded in China’s disease control agency, left her post in July, according to four sources with knowledge of the issue. The first cases of the new coronavirus may have emerged as early as November, and as cases exploded, the Trump administration in February chastised China for censoring information about the outbreak and keeping U.S. experts from entering the country to help.

“It was heartbreaking to watch,” said Bao-Ping Zhu, a Chinese American who served in that role, which was funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, between 2007 and 2011. “If someone had been there, public health officials and governments across the world could have moved much faster.”

Considering that it was a Republican president who started the Civil War and caused some 600,000 violent deaths thereby, this is a no-brainer.  Republicans were the pro-black party up into the 1960's; it was Eisenhower who sent troops to Little Rock to desegregate the public schools.

But it was Obama whose pro-criminal policies led to massive surges in murders in certain major cities... all run by Democrats.  These murders have declined as Trump's law-and-order emphasis has tamped it down somewhat.  We'll see just how much of the improvement survives the recent "criminal justice reform".

  155. The research covered the time between 1900 and 2010, so the civil war or its immediate aftermath were not included.

And the murder rate, like the violent crime rate in general declined steadily throughout the Obama presidency, so much so that a tiny bump in the murder rate in 2016 was lied about as the "highest murder rate in 45 years" when really it was the largest increase in the murder rate in 45 years because it had been so steadily declining.

It fell by half between 1993 and 2015.

Oh, so it was good old Abe Lincoln who fired the first shot in the Civil War? Wow - Here all historians and I thought is started when on April 12, 1861 when confederate guns fired on Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina ordered by confederate general, P.G.T Beauregard.

Where did you get this new information?
