Exhausted.

Let me start tonight's post by saying that I am fed up with urban terrorists running roughshod through major inner city neighborhoods. They are doing it without regard for the loss of life of innocent citizens who aren't about "that life." And they have to be held accountable for their actions by those who are tasked to do just that..

Yesterday a six year old was shot in Philly and he is battling for his life as I write this post. That makes over fifty children (yes children) who have been shot in the city of not so brotherly love since the start of the year. (It's April)

Now, more than ever, we need community leaders and those in law enforcement and politics to come up with solutions and stop giving lip service to stopping crime in the streets. We have to think outside the box and rethink the way we do things. And I'm not only talking about policing.

Now, having said that, let's talk about police shootings and the dehumanization of black and brown bodies in America of late.

If you are a black person in America, you have been bombarded with images of state killings of black children, and those in law enforcement abusing their authority. To say that we are exhausted would be an understatement.

While the trial of Derek Chauvin was going on, just ten miles away another black man was shot to death by a police officer on camera. You can't make this stuff up. Daunte Wright is another one of those names that we are going to be hearing a lot for all the wrong reasons. Lake Philando Castille and  Tamir Rice before him, he paid with his life because so many people in law enforcement fear black and brown men and harbor an implicit bias towards them.

If you think I am wrong, take a look at the video of a white man in Minnesota who dragged a police officer with his SUV, hit another officer with a hammer, and who is still alive. This is what infuriates people of color. Had that man been black, we all know that his family would be getting out their best Sunday outfits for the funeral that was sure to follow. The running joke among black folks is that we never have to hear the race of  a mass shooter announced to know what their actual race is. We just have to know if he was taken alive. Taken alive equals white. Shot to death by law enforcement equals black.

While I was writing this post, I watched yet another horrific video of the shooting and killing of 13 year old Adam Toledo by law enforcement in Chicago. Sadly, I can't help but think of that word exhausted again. It just never seems to stop.

Policing is a tough job, and there are a lot of good men and women who do it. I know quite a few of them. But we have to get rid of the bad actors, and we have to properly train those who want to do the right thing and represent their departments in the right way.

I started this post by condemning the urban terrorist who terrorize black neighborhoods, but they are criminals who have to be dealt with. I don't want the people who we pay to protect and serve to become like those that they are supposed to be protecting us from. When we reach that place in society, we might as well pack it in and head to our underground silos.

This post is just like the one last month, in which Fool Negro wrote a whole bunch of disingenuous crap:

Here in Philly children are being murdered by other children in alarming numbers, and city leaders and those in law enforcement seem to have no answers.

Passive voice.  BLACK children are murdering people in alarming numbers, and their victims are not restricted to other denizens of "tha hood".

Guns are everywhere. These little urban terrorists in Philly can get a gun quicker than they can a bicycle or a baseball glove, and they are not afraid to let you know it.

Really?  What gun shops are selling to children?  What sort of stuff do they put on their 4473 forms?

Of course, everyone knows the score.  The guns are stolen, and the piss poor parenting of these hood rats' mothers leads to them doing whatever the hell they want.  Had Tamir Rice's mother taken his realistic-looking replica gun away from him, he'd probably be alive today.  Of course, anyone who even suggests that allowing such juvenile delinquency should be punished is deemed "racist".

They will "pop off" at the slightest diss or internet trolling.

So your "solution" is to crack down on people whose only relationship to the problem is being the victim of a theft?  Why not crack down on the thieves?  Why not crack down on illegal possession when the idiots prove it by threatening in social media, especially with pictures of them brandishing weapons that they certainly aren't allowed to buy, own, or in the case of felons, even hold?

Beefs that used to be settled with fists or other means now have deadly consequences for all involved.

Maybe the solution is, I don't know, teaching children that violence is not a suitable response to a "beef"?  The White people those guns are stolen from don't have a problem with their children shooting each other over "beefs", so it isn't a problem with guns.  It's a problem with blacks.

I suspect that this doesn't matter to politicians and those on the right, because these are just black boys killing other black boys, and they live far from the rest of us "decent law abiding citizens".

They live close to many, many guns, and guess what?  The guns aren't leading to an epidemic of homicides, especially not between children.  The cause of THAT is a defect in the African brain, not Samuel Colt or William B. Ruger.

The problem is YOU.  YOU are defective.

  2. Perhaps if we had gun licenses like we have driver's licenses, including for the goddamn cops who can't even bring themselves to follow the goddamn NRA guidelines for safe firearms handling even though we pay the despicable motherfuckers to handle firearms forty fucking hours a week (and if they can't get a clue with that much experience, blacklist the homicidal morons so they not only can't work in law enforcement ever again, but they also go to prison for a long ass time if they are ever found to be possessing a firearm again) then a few things might be accomplished:
First, there could be a common, baseline knowledge that all gun owners would be responsible for understanding and behaving within the boundaries of. Many, many gun deaths are the result of straight up ignorance.
Second, it would provide a framework for law enforcement to confirm the legal status of any firearm and anyone carrying one. This could be steered away from harassment by the training required for a gun license.
Third, it could be the beginning of a change in the culture of guns, that is the only real change that will ever do anything about our gun problem here in the US.

There are way too many guns to just make them go away, and prohibition laws are historically ineffective, so the only remaining avenue is changing the behavior of the gun owners.

Or we could just get rid of the drug prohibition laws that lie at the root of all of the violence and tension between the police and the citizens they are paid to protect.

Baltimore has done something similar, and they seem to be the only major metro area where the homicide and violent crime rate has gone down instead of up in the last year or so.

Or we can just keep marinating in our hate and fear while the corpses pile up.

In the case, of Philando Castile and Tamir Rice, I’ll buy implicit bias as a plausible explanation. But Daunte Wright’s death was just a plain old screw-up.

The police had good reason to pull him over (expired tags and arrest warrants) and good reason to tase him (he tried to run away, rather than be arrested). The police might want to work on not confusing their tasers and pistols, though. That seems like a fairly important skill in that line of work.

Not only is there an America First Caucus in Congress, but there is now going to be the America First Policy Institute, a think tank dedicated to promoting the supposed “ideas” of Trump. (Never mind that Trump was only ever interested in being president for egotistical reasons, not out of any real political ideology, and cobbled together an agenda purely based on what he thought would allow him to get into office.) The “think” in “think tank” is clearly meant to be ironic here.

Also, Stephen Miller has started America First Legal, a group designed to sue the Biden administration whenever Miller thinks they’re not being racist enough.

So now we know what Team Trump will be doing, now that his presidency is over.

The problem has reached such scope that something major and fundamental has to change.

Police unions have made all efforts at regulation of police behavior useless, so some stronger medicine is called for.

The best idea I have read recently is called the honey bee effect, and it states that any time a police officer kills someone, that police officer is fired and can never work as a police officer again, regardless of who was "at fault" or the outcome of any homicide prosecution that may arise from the case.

That would put in place a concrete consequence for the use of deadly force that might cause the goddamn cops to think before murdering citizens they are being paid to serve and protect.

Or we could just get rid of the drug prohibition laws that lie at the root of most of the fear and distrust that make policing into the complicated mess that it is today. Cops would very likely be less inclined to slaughter citizens who didn't obviously hate and fear them.

Or we could tell the goddamn cops to grow the fuck up and start behaving themselves around the citizens who pay their salaries if they want to remain employed as goddamn cops.

I've kind of had it with the fucking punks, in case you couldn't tell.

That doesn’t look like a solution, from where I’m sitting. It has the same flaw as ideas about making cops personally financially liable for injuries and deaths caused to civilians while they were doing their jobs.

And that flaw is: Under those circumstances, nobody with any ability or options would ever want to be a cop. Would you select a career that can be taken away from you because you did your job right? There are plenty of other lines of work that don’t come with that bullshit attached, so competent people will just choose those.

As a result, the only people who will end up becoming cops will be morons and criminals who are otherwise unemployable in society, and police departments will be forced to hire them, as that will be their only labor pool. And then, perversely, errors and abuses by police will get much, much worse. Instead of a significant minority of bad cops, they’ll ALL be bad cops.

Canada Has Plenty of Guns But Little Gun Violence

April 19, 2021 at 3:00 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard 210 Comments

Francis Wilkinson: “In a small, carpeted classroom in Delta, British Columbia, a dozen of us filed in for the first of two days of classes — 15 hours in all — required to obtain a firearm license. Canadian law recognizes three basic types of guns: non-restricted, restricted and prohibited. Firearms become more difficult to possess as the government’s assessment of their danger increases. Handguns, for example, are restricted. Despite their designations, even restricted and prohibited firearms can be legally possessed and acquired.”

“Licensing is extensive and mandatory. Without a license issued by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, you can’t legally possess or purchase a firearm in Canada. And without completing an authorized training course in firearm safety like this one, and then waiting a minimum of 28 business days for your application to be processed, you won’t get a license.”

Dude, come on, if he was running down a Chicago back alley with a gun in his hand in the dead of night, you can safely infer that he was a gangbanger.

Not that this is relevant to the officer’s self-defense claim. The only thing that has any bearing there is whether it was the officer had adequate time and ability to see that Toledo had already ditched the gun and was trying to surrender in the moment before he was shot.

None of this should be about whether Toledo deserved or did not deserve to die. A police officer’s self-defense rights are not about whether the person he shot was a good person, but merely whether the officer’s assessment of danger was reasonable.

"Is there any proof that he had a gun in his hand?"

Yes. The video footage shows Toledo running down the alley and then chucking the gun through a break in the fencing to an adjoining yard. The cops recovered the gun from the spot where the video shows he chucked it.

It's not 100% clear what happened here, but Toledo was seen with an older guy (possibly another gang member) when the police arrived to investigate gunshots that had been fired in the area. Possibly the older guy gave the gun to Toledo to dispose of it, so he wouldn't be busted for having it?

Toledo's death happened because Toledo ran off holding the gun and ditched it, hoping it wouldn't be found, and then he turned around and surrendered with his hands up. The last part happened pretty fast, though, and the officer didn't realize Toledo was no longer armed, and shot him.

CPD's story did change, or at least was somewhat somewhat misleading, in that they omitted the detail that Toledo was not holding the gun at the moment he was shot.

However, video backs up the rest of their story. He did have a gun, right up until the very last second or so before attempting to surrender.
