Dictatorship Versus Democracy.

I'm baaack.

It's been a minute field hands, but I have been so overwhelmed with the fall of our democracy that I honestly didn't know where to start writing.  It's been one instance of abuse of power after another. Mr. Trump and his minions are testing the limits of presidential powers and there is no one stop them. The democrats are weak and feckless, and the republicans are sheeplike cult members who have become idol worshipers for the MAGA king who has taken over their party.

From the killing of civilians without due process, to waging war against American cities with American troops, it seems like no one can stop King Trump. I shudder to think where this is going.

Mr. Trump has the Supreme Court, Congress, and the American press in his pocket. (And soon what is supposed to be an independent Federal Reserve will be his as well.) It seems that everyone is afraid of offending America's dictator in chief. His ego must be stroked at all cost, and others in positions of power will do just that to get what they want.

Don't even get me started on this Jeffrey Epstein mess.

The following is a blog post from the National Women's Law Center:

"Trump’s return to power after the election last fall felt like a gut punch to so many survivors of sexual assault and harassment and advocates. It sent a devastating message: that even in the face of dozens of credible allegations of sexual assault and harassment, and after being found liable in one case, powerful perpetrators can continue to rise—untouched, unaccountable, and even celebrated.

But this isn’t new. In both his current and previous administrations, Trump has repeatedly elevated individuals accused of committing or enabling abuse, harassment, and domestic violence to some of the most powerful positions in the country. It reinforces what so many of us who work in this space already know: sexual violence is about power. And this administration is all too willing to protect that power—at any cost. "

I’ve been advocating for survivors for decades, and one of the first lessons I’ve learned is that gender-based violence often manifests through control—physical, emotional, and financial. Financial abuse is a powerful weapon: using money to manipulate, silence, and force dependence. And under Trump, the federal government is now wielding that same tactic—not against an individual, but against an entire ecosystem of survivor-serving organizations. The Trump administration’s attacks on survivors are systemic—embedded into politically-motivated policy shifts through executive orders, funding freezes, and administrative chaos that threaten the very groups tasked with supporting survivors of sexual assault.

Many groups supporting survivors rely on federal funding to provide essential services, such as crisis hotlines, hospital advocacy during forensic exams, and prevention programs in schools.

Trump’s administration has jeopardized these efforts in numerous ways"

Meanwhile, Americans go on with their lives as if all of this is normal. Most white Americans do it out of racial solidarity, because, he is, after all, one of their own.  And most black Americans, still angry over the Kamala diss, are too busy line dancing and putting their boots on the ground to care.

They keep tripping over their own dicks:

It led Dr. Jerome Adams, who served as Trump’s surgeon general during the president’s first term, to note online: “The White House, HHS, and all of the media have (completely) buried the lede. Every news headline should actually read: ‘Despite bringing the full resources of the U.S. government to bear, RFK fails to find a connection between vaccines and autism!’”

Government shutdowns are dumb. The Republicans control the house and the senate, and one of the baseline responsibilities of the congress is to keep the government funded.
Operating on the assumption that John Thune can count to sixty, he knew he didn't have the votes to fund the government, so at that point, his job as senate majority leader was to get those votes and fund the fucking government, and he didn't even try.
And before you start yawping about Democrats making unreasonable demands, no, just no. Mr. Thune has been at his job for a while now and fully understands what it takes to get a fucking bill passed, and has been in discussions about how to handle the funding deadline since before the previous deadline.
This is happening because 1) Republicans want it to, and 2) Republicans are really bad at the jobs they get paid a lot of money for even as other government workers get screwed.

What I see going on here is just the throwing around of highly partisan political websites and vague slogans. It's hilarious to see all the mud slinging at each other taking place.

If my memory serves me right, the Blaze is associated with Glenn Beck, who pushes apocalyptic narratives. The other two, I have never heard of before, and they may not be credible sources. I don't feel like reading them to try to find about more.

Jesse Albrecht said...

By the other two, I mean the Gateway Pundit and Breitbart News.

dinthebeast said...

Breitbart was founded by Andrew Breitbart, who distinguished himself by claiming such nonsense as that LA schools were too politically correct to acknowledge St. Patrick's day, instead calling it "potato day", which was clearly bullshit. He has since, mercifully, died.
The Gateway Pundit, for various reasons, is widely known as "the dumbest man on the internet."

https://www.mediamatters.org/jim-hoft?page=1

I, myself, don't take them seriously as sources of information, for various reasons, which stretch far past my political disagreements with them. You can often get good information from extremely biased sources if you know how to translate their jargon and account for their motivations, but I have rarely found anything on either of those sites that I couldn't have gotten with less effort elsewhere.
I hope you found that helpful.

Doug, if your goal was to expose lies, you might want to start by distinguishing fact from fury. Calling someone a “right wing troll” and a “slimy asshole” doesn’t make your argument stronger—it just signals that you’ve abandoned debate for insult.

Let’s unpack your Merrick Garland point. Yes, the Senate’s refusal to hold hearings was unprecedented and deeply political. But it wasn’t illegal. The Constitution gives the Senate the power to advise and consent—it doesn’t mandate a timeline. That’s not a “lie,” it’s a grim reality of partisan hardball. If you want to argue that it degraded Congress, fine—but don’t pretend that acknowledging how appointments work is dishonest. It’s just inconvenient.

As for impeachment, you’re conflating political dysfunction with constitutional failure. The Senate didn’t convict Trump not because the process is meaningless, but because the votes weren’t there. That’s a reflection of political will, not a broken mechanism. If anything, it shows how hard it is to remove a president—by design.

You say you’ve already addressed the rest of the “lies,” but all I see is rage. Rage doesn’t rebut—it deflects. And while your passion is palpable, it’s not persuasive. You’re not engaging with the arguments—you’re just throwing punches and hoping one lands.

Finally, the name-calling and chest-thumping about anonymity? That’s theater. If you want to be taken seriously, drop the bravado and bring receipts. Otherwise, you’re not debating—you’re performing.

So the Argentines elected a Fergus-y president who made Fergus-y promises about revitalizing the economy, which did what economies do when Fergus-y bullshit is introduced in them and crashed.
So amid cutting funding in his own country for everything from healthcare to infrastructure to cancer research, Fergus bailed out his buddy to the tune of twenty billion dollars.
His friend then repaid that favor by eliminating export taxes on grain and selling soybeans to China that our farmers would have sold them if not for Fergus' stupid, stupid tariffs.
And now, because Fergus did something similar during his first term and had to bail out the farmers, the account that he would normally (ha!) bail them out with only has $4 billion in it, so he is desperately scraping around to find money to fix his latest financial fuck up.
If a middle manager at a Wall Street company did any one of the dozen incompetent blunders Fergus did just on this one subject, they would be out on their ass and never work in finance again.
