Female issues.

I saw the US Open women's final yesterday, and  I must say that it was full f excitement and drama. I was happy for the young Haitian American. (Yes, she is also Haitian. I know that the main stream media would like us to believe that she is only Japanese, but that's not the case.) But it was sad to see that sexism still exits in this sport. I play and watch a lot of tennis, and there is no way a male player on the tour would have been given a game penalty in the finals of a major like Serena was yesterday.

Serena is the greatest player of all time, and she is the least popular among a certain segment of the population, primarily because she is unapologetic about standing up for her race and sex, and this tends to drive some people crazy.  "Just shut up and play", and collect your money doing something that we all wish that we could do, is what those same folks who dislike her would tell her and athletes like LeBron James to do.

I felt bad for Naomi Osaka yesterday, because the truth is that she was on her way to beating Serena, and having this incident just took away from what was supposed to be the greatest moment of her life.

Finally, speaking of women, I watched some of the Brett Kavanaugh hearing, and it was terrifying. It was terrifying to me because I know that the man will be confirmed regardless of what he says. He  will be the swing vote in turning back the right of a woman to determine what to do with her own body, and ultimately send us back to the days of back room abortions.  And yes, he might have committed perjury, but one little act of perjury will not stop the right-wing agenda.

Forget all his daughters and the girls basketball team that he trotted out for the optics. If those little girls only knew that the man that they were helping to sit on the supreme court could have a negative impact on their lives in the coming years.

He claims that Roe V. Wade is settled law, implying that he will not rule to overturn it. But that's hogwash. Precedent does not prevent the court from overturning what we consider well settled law. Just remember, Plessy  v. Ferguson was the law of the land for sixty years before it was overturned. It can happen. And you heard it here first. If and when Kavanaugh gets on the Supreme Court, the days of women choosing what to do with their own bodies will be over in the not too distant future.

Political lies and offensive covers.

     * Tomorrow is the GOP debate, and all of us political junkies are curious to see how the GOP small timers in the field will go after the two frontrunners,  trump and cruz. It should be interesting.

One thing is for sure, we will hear declarations by all the candidates that will have us scratching our heads. Why? Well let's just say that the leaders of the GOP race for president have been known to stretch the truth a little bit.

The three biggest liars on the list are — surprise — Ben Carson, Donald Trump, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tx). A whopping 84 percent of Carson’s fact-checked statements were ruled false (from “mostly false” to“pants on fire”), as were 76 percent of Trump’s and 66 percent of Cruz’s. On the other hand, only 4 percent of Carson’s and 7 percent of Trump’s statements were ruled “mostly true” (none of their statements were ruled “true”). This incredible degree of dishonesty shouldn’t surprise anyone who has been following the campaign season; indeed, by now it is clear that the more deceitful these candidates become, and the more they get called out for this deception, the more enthusiastic their supporters grow. " [More]

OK, so we know that GOP politricksters lie, but all politicians lie. So this is nothing new. What's scary is what they lie about these days, and how often they get away with it. It's gotten so bad that the press doesn't even bother to report about the lies anymore. (Dog bites man. Nothing to see here folks; move along.) 

Let's see what happens after tomorrow night.

Finally, congrats to Serena for winning the SI Sportsperson of the Year award. I think that it was well deserved.

As a 4.0 tennis player who understands how difficult the game is, let me say for the record that what Serena Williams did this year on the tennis court at her age was incredible.

                                         And while I congratulate Serena, I would like to say shame on the Los Angeles Times for their offensive cover featuring Serena and a horse, and then comparing the two. (They have since taken down the original picture due to the backlash they got from social media)

I must confess that I admire Serena even more because I know much she is hated by certain folks in the majority population. They have hated her for years, and she has been the greatest female tennis player in the world for everyone of those years. That, to me, is just awesome.

Excelling in spite of the hateration. That's true field Negro behavior as far as I am concerned.  

So now, today, she is being compared to a horse for top honors for Sportsperson of the Year. (P.E.R.S.O.N.)
