Baga is a long way from Paris.

  • "The Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram launched its worst attack ever in the northeastern town of Baga, where it killed hundreds or possibly more.
  • The motivation is unclear, but it appears aimed at intimidating Nigerians into not voting in the coming presidential election.
  • Key context is the military's indifference to northern Nigerian lives. Its troops fled almost immediately, and had itself previously massacred Baga's residents.

What we know about the attack

No one knows for sure how many people the Nigerian terrorist group Boko Haram slaughtered during its six-day rampage in the northeastern town of Baga. A lone and speculative early report said 2,000 dead, though subsequent counts suggest " dozens " or " hundreds ." But little question this is a massacre of breathtaking and possibly unprecedented severity, even for Boko Haram. "

I just though that I would give you that bit of news since Boko Haram is not such a big deal here.

Two thousand dead. And yet, no hashtags; no hundreds of thousands of people marching with countless world leaders locked arm in arm for a show of solidarity; no wall to wall cable coverage in the West, and no world leaders decrying the horrific violence being carried out against the Nigerian people by these monsters.

Of course the Nigerian army is not blameless. They have been trying to play down the seriousness of the Boko Haram threat in their own country, and the high level of carnage that they are responsible for since they started killing innocent women and children there.

"In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said the U.S. still was trying to get information from the ground on reported atrocities.

She said Nigeria needed to move forward with "credible and peaceful elections" despite the attacks, but acknowledged it would be difficult.

"Boko Haram is a huge threat," Harf said. She said the U.S. was trying to work with Nigeria despite the government's termination in November of a third phase of a training operation involving a Nigerian army battalion.

She also condemned "horrific reports today of young girls being used to conduct suicide attacks."
Boko Haram is suspected of using a 10-year-old girl to detonate a bomb at a market in Maiduguri on Saturday, killing at least 10 people and seriously injuring others. The bomb exploded after explosives were found under the girl's clothing during a search, according to witness accounts."

She can't be serious. "STILL TRYING TO GET INFORMATION"?!

Pssst, lady, let me help you: they are killing people

Boko Haram is not as important as Paris. Certainly you must admit that?

Again, they will pick up the story as soon as the Paris incident dies down.

Yisheng, it was enough that they mentioned the killings at Paris. You can't protest killings everywhere. Besides, it was PARIS where those evil people killed. That is unforgivable.

In Africa, the people who were killed were Blacks. That's a different kind of story, different kind of people and a different kind caring.

However, Obama did protest the killings in Nigeria by not attending the rally in Paris. Isn't that enough?

Field should be pleased.

"She can't be serious. 'STILL TRYING TO GET INFORMATION'?!"

Hey, it can be hard to gain timely information from this particular part of the world. As you mentioned, the government of Nigeria doesn't give a rat's patoot about this part of their own country. It is also a rural area, with not too many journalists there.

So, sure, we know lots of bad things are happening there, but the specifics are extremely hazy. This is why news reports say as many as 2,000 people died ... or maybe only a few hundred. That's kind of huge range, wouldn't you say? (Similarly, a few months ago, the government claimed to have rescued those kidnapped girls, but then it turned out that, no, sorry, nobody got rescued. Oops! We regret the confusion.)

For what it's worth, I think that the media should be reporting more on the ghastly situation in Nigeria. Terrorism is massively out of control there. Bombings, like, every few weeks.

As to why that is not happening, I blame:

1) Racism and general disinterest in Africa. If it's not a country that many Americans are likely to travel to, journalists figure it's not worth reporting on.

2) A sense of futility. Nigeria's government is ridiculously corrupt and clearly, the people serving in it care only about themselves. Under such circumstances, people are unfortunately likely to just shake their heads and write the whole country off as hopeless and doomed.

As for this humongous rally in France, I think it's honestly more that a little excessive. Yes, what those bastards did was horrible, but we're still only talking about, what, 17 people that died in total? There are about four times as many traffic fatalities in a typical week in France. We had about 3,000 killed in 9/11, and it's not like half the planet flew in foreign dignitaries to mourn their loss. (Of course, a lot of the planet hate the U.S., and hate us more after Bush, so that could be part of the reason ...)

No one is "scared" to talk about crime in the black community. It's not as if crime doesn't get covered plenty in our news media.

You're just annoyed that the average newspaper doesn't interpret social problems in the most hateful way possible, as do people like QLB. Most responsible journalists aren't printing headlines like "BLACK PEOPLE CONTINUE TO SHOOT EACH OTHER FOR FUN, THE DIRTY SAVAGES!"

I know this must frustrate you immensely.

The west will always matter more to the west. That's how it is.

Whatever tragedies happen inside of those nations outside of the west's main concerns, we typically tend to believe it's an everyday thing.

Perhaps more concern should be shown. But in terms of helping, what's to be done? Military aid results in prolonged conflict and war. UN security ends up being worse than what's happening. Food aid isn't even the equivalent of a Band-Aid.

The only way this stuff is ever going to get our attention is if it happens in reverse. When citizens or good government rise up against terrorism and slaughter them for a change, then we'll lend them some valuable airtime that could otherwise be occupied by a Kardashian.

This rally in Paris was a desperate attempt by Western leaders to try and save multiculturalism.

It was a march against nothing in particular. Because there was nothing there so to speak. No follow on legislation, no attempt to arrest and expel those who preach jihad or shutting the doors to importing more. Not even a wagging finger pointed at Islam and it’s Shariah law. Just a empty march that was led by a bunch of political clowns and traitors that are directly responsible for this disaster in Europe and refuse to mend their ways.

Hollande & company seem to fear a loss of power more than they do the ruination of their country. Sort of like the British Labour party having a deliberate policy of mass immigration in order to hang onto power. This is the real face of the elites, hanging onto a royal lifestyle even as their countries smolder and slowly burn.

Charlie Hebdo was a bunch assholes who poked fun at everything except the government. They ruthlessly trashed other people's beliefs secure in the belief of their own class privilege. What happened showed just how much France and Europe have changed. This purpose of this rally was to keep the people of Europe and the West from understanding the situation.

Rah, rah, rah.

The sad reality is that not all human lives have the same value. We like to believe it does but this is never the case!!! These national leaders are the ones bombings in Muslim lands, selling arms, arming "rebels," training insurgent groups, protecting undemocratic regimes(house of Saud, Isreal, Egypt...)

There is this ongoing national(global) debate about the deaths in Paris but very rarely is there an honest look at the root cause of these situations.

Until we believe almost all human life has a value, this insane way of the other will continue.

Was it not France that spent 3billion terrorizing Algerian, with the belief that Algiers was a French metropolis? Was it not Paris police that butchered 300 Algerians?

Let's emphasize the facts first before stressing that "blacks" are the violent ones.

Leftist response to terrorism (including George W. Bush, Jeb Bush, and the Chamber of Commerce): full-scale surveillance state, massive restrictions on freedom of speech, press, etc. And in the case of the Bushes, never-ending trillion dollar wars.

Right-wing response to terrorism: reduce/ban immigration by the people inclined to commit terror.

The Left is willing to destroy everything essential about Western civilization in order to bring in millions of people we don’t even need.

Which side is the more extremist, again?

If the West were to intervene, it would simply be yet another example of colonialism and racism, according to blacktivists.

On the other hand, these pages are filled with tired tropes about how clever the posters are here, how better educated they are than whites, how economically successful they are, ad nauseum.

There's nothing to prevent blacks from rallying and funding and solving this problem, if it's important to YOU.
Nothing's stopping any of YOU from volunteering or from reaching into your pocket to solve the crisis.

This is not a problem that involves or implicates the white, Christian west.

You think it needs fixing - go fix it. With YOUR time, YOUR talent, YOUR money.

The point here is what, that Europeans care about terrorism's victims and Africans don't?

Why should Europeans care more about what's going on in Nigeria than what's happening on their own streets? Shouldn't people take care of their own house first? If Europe was intervening in Africa you'd be bitching about colonialism and racial condescension.

-----------------------------

There has been a very honest look and appraisal of the root cause of these situations.

Not all cultures are equivalent; and it is foolish to continue to believe otherwise. The friction that arises from one group inserting themselves into a culture they can not compete or keep pace with is the natural outcome of such addled brain wishful thinking.

It has been asked numerous times on this blog for the blacktivists to highlight ten things that make the modern world what it is... and then list how many of those critical developments were created by blacks.

No one ever answers. Instead, they erupt in outrage and anger. The truth hurts.

Until the West understands that there is no place for non-whites within their culture, the friction will continue.

The tide is turning, as is an increasing sense of ethno-awareness and rejection of "DIEversity".

Progressivism is being hoisted on its own petard. It's delicious.

It's time for the west to adopt a non-intervention policy in these situations - militarily and economically.

Appearing on live television just hours after the shootings, Mayor Aboutaleb said Muslims who 'do not like freedom can pack your bags and leave'.

While we have a giant espionage apparatus, there are still many parts of the world in which we don't have good coverage. If you are a terrorist and you want to avoid being captured or killed, hiding out in some impoverished rural backwater (like northern Nigeria) is the way to go.

One grimly humorous reason for this is simply that our agents don't much enjoy being stationed in the middle of nowhere. This impedes not only reporting from our agents but also the ability to recruit native sources of information.

Our NSA's ability to tap telecom networks isn't of much use in such low-tech areas, either.

Anonymous said...

Dear Mr. Fields,

What's your point? You think Americans don't care about innocent people in Africa? Americans are the largest financial and military suppporters of the people in African nations.

I am a white American (hope you don't hold that against me) and I am deeply disturbed to my core when I see attacks like this. And, yes, I did see it on the news like you. Consider this. Perhaps a war zone experiencing a six a day attack is less conducive to a march than the City of Lights. But regardless of public display, the truth remains.

When innocents of any race or creed are attacked anywhere, we are all harmed. If you follow the news, then you must know that U.S. Special forces and national troops are dealing with this group in ways we may never hear about. But it's going to be a long, hard battle.

On the other hand, don't discount the fact that, unlike Paris, the world has grown too used to seeing major problems in African nations. An attack in France has greater shock value. That may not be fair, but it's true. There also may be some desensitization at work here. It's much like hearing that there's another problem in Israel. No one is too surpised anymore. In fact, it's expected.

Many African nations are still going through the growing pains which always come after the end of colonial rule. This is compounded by the current influx of Islamic Extremists who love to take advantage of already existing instabilities.

A world war is raging and most people don't even realize it. Give it time and there will be no denying it.

I don't think it helps that there are divisive voices like your in the mix on these matters. There's more going on in this struggle than mere racial problems. All Americans, you, I and everyone, need to stand together and with all the people of the world. This si no time for petty arguments.

And, there never is such a thing as "free" labor. There are always costs involved. I agree that it was a sin to buy blacks from their black owners and use them to plus up the gap not filled by indentured poor white slaves, but the bigger sin was not repatriating them all back to their homeland. It's still the right and moral thing to do. Blacks clearly have been unable to assimilate into western culture.

According to this Nigerian source Punchng.com http://shar.es/1bZ8FE (This article is dated on January 13, 2015)
