And wealth creates huge advantages in such an economically elitist society as the U.S. Being born middle class or rich means that you will likely advance farther than someone who is born poor. America in 2019 is an extremely classist society. Even if there were zero race prejudice in society, whites statistically are starting out in life, on average, from a better economic position.
Likewise with regards to gender, both men and women are still heavily influenced by gender expectations. Women choose different, often less lucrative career paths than men based on what society says are “girl skills” and “girl jobs.” Women also are often less able to advance in their careers than men because of societal expectations regarding taking time off to raise children and because of lack of working hours flexibility and public funding for childcare. Women’s choices are affected by what society implies are the right things for them to do.
As for basketball, discrimination plays a part there, too. Not in the sense that whites today are being kept out of basketball by anti-white discrimination, but in the sense that black people have collectively put so much fucking energy (probably too much) into getting good at sports because they faced so many historical barriers getting into other promising industries. Success in some track and field events may come down to raw biology. Those events involve comparatively little skill, and the margins of victory are incredibly tiny — fractions of a second or fractions of an inch.

Just what biological differences are you speaking of? I can think of only one; most men are physically stronger when it comes to some tasks. However, women have more endurance and are better able to fight off many diseases than men. These things are obvious in the differences of life expectancy between the sexes.

Couple of points. I haven't seen any posts here that have tried to dismiss evolution or the the principle of natural selection. Of course humans do adapt to their environment or they perish.
However what evidence do you have to support your claim that that populations evolved in isolation for thousands in years in different environments? By far, most of human history is unwritten. Artifacts from ancient times that are found around the world tend to indicate that primitive peoples did much more traveling and trading than previously thought. So much of what we think we know may not be correct.

Granted, Asians make up 74% of the Stuyvesant student body, but NYT reporters don’t possess concepts like Asian Supremacy, so who can remember random numbers like that?
Why is there no such concept as Asian Supremacy, given that Asian-American incomes substantially outpace white incomes? There is no possible explanation for such a disparity other than discrimination or privilege, right? Last time I checked the Census Bureau’s numbers, whites were, as an ethnic group, somewhere around number 20 in median household income. Iranian-Americans earn, on the average, considerably more. And the income “gap” between Jews and Gentiles is wider than the gap between whites and blacks. More privilege at work, no doubt.

I have to agree with you. As a former professional in higher education, I did a great deal of research on how well standardized test scores predict success in college. Not very well, I'm afraid. SAT scores only predict about four percent of the variability in student success. Based on the data, it's my opinion that standardized testing makes lots of money for testing companies, but have little predictive value and should be discontinued.
The DNC will build a wall on the southern border AFTER they transform America into a one-party, totalitarian socialist state, to keep us in.
Not much of a fan of the B-52 airplane, although I must admit it to be one of the most successful airframes ever designed, but as for the band, well, Kate Pierson is one of my all-time favorites.

Uh-huh. I can think of a couple reasons why that might be.
1) This is a yearbook photo from 30 years ago. A person might change their beliefs a bit in 30 years.
2) And even if Northampton didn’t change his views at all, odds are that he is still probably a lot less bigoted than a Republican governor would be. The Virginia GOP should have a hard think about exactly how racist a political party has to be for black voters to prefer a Democrat with an uncomfortable racial history — even one whose yearbook entry shows a Klansman and a blackface Sambo figure — over literally any Republican in the state. Perhaps this is a warning sign that their party is headed down the wrong path?

Doug, I remember a story a few years ago fro9m a female wingnut government employee telling of the time the last B-52s left Saigon. I got to looking around because my recollections were B-52s were never based in country, they flew in from long range airbases in other countries to do their damage. The only in country ones were the ones shot down.
As for the B-52 loop, I have no idea whether it was possible. Not sure I'd want to risk one of the only dependable bombing platforms we have or the crews that fly them.

Mike can clarify, but I'm guessing "Sahib" is probably a nickname, not a given name. Among other things, British colonial officers used to use this term to address their Indian underlings when they ruled India. I had a British boss who used to go around saying things like "What's up, Sahib?" to his employees, which felt vaguely racist in his case.
Also, I very much doubt there were zero non-white American pilots involved in the Vietnam War, although there are certainly more in the service today.

Yeah, it is an honorific. It means something like "big shot" or "big man" or "chief." It conveys some level of status. But in relation to my ex-boss, it came off a little uncomfortable, being so heavily associated with the British Empire. Especially when he used it to refer to Indian-American employees, which he did.
Don't get me wrong, the boss seemed to really like Indians and probably didn't mean to give any offense, and they didn't seem to be taking any, so I guess it wasn't a problem. It just felt a little weird, though.

Nothing like Independence Day at Lake Okoboji!
Spencer WalMart south mall) is 26 miles from my door, PilotX. I only spent one Independence Day at Okoboji because the place was packed. First and only roller coaster ride was on the wooden lady at the park.
Long ways from I-80 and I have never eaten in any of those establishments listed. My mother, of blessed memory, always made the best pies as far as I was concerned. She made all bread, buns, biscuits and cookies, pies from scratch and raised 9 kids and worked as a nurse's aid/ward clerk for nearly forty years in her spare time.
Next time I'm in your neck of the woods Imma look you up. Spent more time in the Rockies than I expected. I-82 is blocked in the winter and had no clue April 2 is still considered winter and had to backtrack. At least I got to hang out in Aspen twice.
Afraid you'll be disappointed, PilotX. I am old, slow, don't walk very well and I can't hear much. Would be nice to put a face with a personality, though. I have never met a real life pilot before.
