Mike, it has been leaked that back in late November, US Intel informed Trump and his crew that there was a potential pandemic brewing in China. The United States has pretty good spying capabilities so I am inclined to believe them. Apparently Trump was not interested and did nothing with the information the intelligence community gave him.

There is a story that says that the virus was already circulating in November and both the Chinese government and US Defense Department intelligence knew about it. But this is all coming from anonymous sources. I wouldn’t put much stock in either of those allegations, absent some real evidence to support them, or at least the sources going on the record to defend them. Pentagon officials say the allegations are untrue and there was no DOD report on an epidemic in China in November.

But the known facts about Trump’s lack of response to the pandemic are already damning. This has already been an abysmal failure of leadership. If it turned out he’d had an additional month or two to fart around and do nothing to prepare the country for the virus, that would just add insult to injury.
In all fairness though I must say that the President indeed ordered quickly built many air conditioned, fully equipped Covid ready tent hospitals adjacent to all of the hospitals here. For the most part they are empty thank God, as our incidences are low. but as far as being ready, no sweat.
In a bit of perhaps good news, a drug under development called EIDD-2801 has shown promise in the treatment of COVID-19.

A company that has licensed the drug, Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, has just been granted permission from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin 10 patient trials of the antiviral pill in the next few months.
The same university collaboration had already found that Gilead Sciences’ experimental medicine remdesivir was effective in shutting down replication of the coronaviruses that caused the original SARS and MERS epidemics. Remdesivir has received attention because it entered clinical trials against SARS-CoV-2 in March, and the first results may come by late April. The findings announced yesterday indicate that EIDD-2801 was possibly even more successful in disrupting coronavirus replication than the Gilead drug."
The new drug apparently has the potential to treat a wider variety of viral infections and to perhaps be used as a prophylaxis against infection for health care workers and those in high risk situations such as nursing homes.

So the SEIU in California, seeing that its members were short on the PPE that they need to stay alive, tried to source it themselves.
To that end, they announced a couple of weeks ago that they had sourced 39 million N95 masks that they were planning on making available to hospitals and other facilities where their members needed them.
But it turned out that the 39 million masks were just a scam being run by a broker in Australia and a supplier in Kuwait and didn't actually exist.
There is now a federal criminal investigation of it in Pittsburgh, because the FBI stumbled onto the scam while investigating the attempted transaction in order to seize the masks if they were actually sold to SEIU.
That's Fergus' plan to obtain PPE and other medical supplies to fight the pandemic: steal them from the states or anyone with enough on the ball to actually get them.
