I wish that were true, but SCOTUS didn't rule against the crazy independent state legislature theory on the merits.
It sounds like the case is going away because it was initially filed based on Republicans objecting to the fact that liberals on the North Carolina state supreme court rejected their gerrymandered redistricting map. But now, Republicans have taken over the North Carolina state supreme court and can restore the gerrymandered map, so the whole dispute the case was based on has become moot.
However, it's likely that Republicans will file some other bogus case in the future and again try to get SCOTUS to sign off on the independent state legislature theory, which could make it real easy for them to rig elections.
The goddamn Republicans in Georgia are passing bills through their state legislature that allow them to dismiss prosecutors.
Knowing already that they are wannabe fascists, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at them taking a meat-axe to the independent judiciary, but it's still annoying as fuck.
