In the rehab hospital I went to after my stroke, where they wheeled me in on a gurney and I walked out using a quad-cane (I owe my life to those people) the head doctor who ran the place was from Pakistan, the head physical therapist was from the Philippines, my speech pathologist was from Laos, and two of the nurses were from Africa.
My GP at Highland Hospital in Oakland was from the UK.
My GP out here in the boondocks is from India, and his substitute is from somewhere in Eastern Europe. The doctors the SSA assigned me to determine whether or not I was disabled were from Vietnam. I have been seen by a couple of American born doctors along the way, and my OT was American (along with the trainee who actually worked with me to teach me how to walk, Hi Sandra!) but before that the last American born doctor to look at me was Dr, Herscher in Eureka when I was seventeen and ground the end of my finger off in a metal grinder. And before you crow about how we need more American doctors, yes we do. Anyway, unlike with Iraq, there’s a real possibility of the mission eventually being accomplished. Because, unlike with Iraq, Iran really does have a technological program that really could lead to weapons of mass destruction. You don’t create a stockpile of highly enriched uranium unless you at least want to be ready to make nuclear weapons.
And I’ve no doubt the US military can indeed dismantle the Iranian nuclear program with a ground invasion. It’s only a matter of how many people have to die on both sides before that happens, and how much of a smoking wreck will be left of Iran after we are done.
And also, how much of the American public will understand what an horrifying waste this will have been, since it all could have been avoided if Trump had never been voted in and given the opportunity to rip up Obama’s nuclear deal.
