Amy is no Yahia.

Worshippers attend Sunday prayers in Baraka Parish church at Hajj Yusuf, on the outskirts of Khartoum, Sudan, on Feb. 10, 2013.While we all make  it a point to make our voices heard to help bring over 200 Nigerian school girls home safely (all of us except the folks over at FOX and the right wing noise machine), let us not forget the story of Yahia Ibrahim Ishag.

Talk about a profile in courage, this lady is facing death and refuses to turn her back on her religion. Let me say, as someone who is firmly in the agnostic camp, that I  have to give a serious hat tip to this woman.

She is the real deal.

"We gave you three days to recant but you insist on not returning to Islam. I sentence you to be hanged," Judge Abbas Mohammed Al-Khalifa told the woman, addressing her by her father's Muslim name, Adraf Al-Hadi Mohammed Abdullah.

Khalifa also sentenced Ishag to 100 lashes for "adultery". Under Sudan's interpretation of sharia, a Muslim woman cannot marry a non-Muslim man and any such relationship is regarded as adulterous.

Ishag, dressed in traditional Sudanese robes with her head covered, reacted without emotion when Abbas delivered the verdict at a court in the Khartoum district of Haj Yousef where many Christians live."

This is where that George Carlin quote comes in:

“Religion is like a pair of shoes.....Find one that fits for you, but don't make me wear your shoes.”

We need a hashtag for Yahia.

And for every Yahia Ibrahim Ishag there is an Amy Kushnir. Sorry Amy, there is nothing courageous about what you did.

Storming off a damn television set because you didn't want to see two men kissing is more akin to the belief system of Judge Abbas Mohammed Al-Khalifa than it is to Yahia.

"A Dallas TV host walked off the set of her show Tuesday after an argument erupted over her disapproval of Michael Sam kissing his boyfriend on television.

A discussion on KTXD TV's "The Broadcast" about ESPN's decision to broadcast Michael Sam's emotional kiss escalated into a full-blown fight between co-hosts and ended with host Amy Kushnir storming off the set, declaring, "I'm done."

Kushnir said that she was against the network airing the kiss, and argued that it strayed from ESPN's tradition of promoting "all-American sports."

"When parents do not have a choice as to whether or not they want their children to see this, it's wrong," she said. "It's being pushed in faces.... I don't want to see that. I don't want to see cake in your face, kissing each other." [Source]

Pssst, Amy, it's not a stretch to say that your kid might have a preference for their own sex one day. Just sayin.

Stay on the damn set and debate your co-host. If you feel that strongly about the whole thing go home and pray for her that your god will save her. This is America; not Sudan. Not yet.
