Eating with the enemy.

So I am having dinner with this so called black conservative this evening and he is doing his best to convince me that the republican party and the right is best for black folks in A-merry-ca. Of course, I was not having it. What followed was a lively discussion about politics, race, and the problems of urban A-merry-ca. Like certain people who frequent this blog he thinks that the dems have tried and failed the inner cities. And while I agree with that to an extent (ultimately, it won't be dems or repubs who save us, we will have to save ourselves) there is nothing that he told me that made me believe that right wing or republican rule would be better for black folks in A-merry-ca.

Besides, I just don't want to be under the same tent with those people. Sorry, there is just too much bad blood between us at this point. I will take republicans on a one on one basis like I did with my man tonight, but there is no way in hell that I will co-sign with them as a group.

One thing about us black folks; our gut feelings are always true to us, and I bet every one of you -black folks-reading this get that gut feeling when you are around folks on the right. You know the one. The one that says that this person is not comfortable in this space. It's why I wonder how black conservatives survive in that environment. Don't they get the gut check? Or do they get it and ignore it? I was going to ask my man but he was getting the check, so I wanted to be nice.

He ended his pitch by telling me that he was going to make a conservative out of me yet. And I politely told him that if they were the last group of people on earth I would be living like Will Smith in "I Am Legend" until I go to join that big Saved By the Bell rerun in the sky. Still, I thought about what my man said; but then, unfortunately for him, I came home and read something from the Southern Poverty Law Center site:

These are just a sampling of quotes from some of our right wing friends.

"[T]he Talmud is full of moral filth. … [Evangelical leaders are] carefully concealing the Jewish identity of those who corrupt Christian culture."— Rev. TED PIKE, director of the National Prayer Network, in a June 21 essay that attacks Jews, the Jewish holy book, and alleged Jewish dominance of pornography, Hollywood and the media

"[L]et them fast until they starve to death… . Go make a bomb where you came from."— Host MICHAEL SAVAGE, on the July 5 edition of his Talk Radio Network show, on "illegal alien" students on hunger strike to back a bill allowing some immigrants to become citizens

"This is a dry run against free speech in America by the Islamists and the illegal aliens. … Lady Liberty … is being raped by the illegal aliens."—Host MICHAEL SAVAGE, on the Aug. 14 edition of his show, attacking a resolution by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, which finally passed unanimously on Oct. 2, that condemned his July 5 comments as "hate speech" that is "defamatory … against immigrants"

"Muslims don't eat during the day during Ramadan. They fast during the day and eat at night. Sort of like cockroaches."— Host NEAL BOORTZ, on the Aug. 14 edition of Cox Radio Syndication's "The Neal Boortz Show," discussing dietary restrictions during Islamic holy days.

"[T]he NAACP …. [i]s a sad joke that should be shut down."— MSNBC host TUCKER CARLSON, on the Aug. 24 edition of "Tucker," attacking the anti-racist organization as "a faithful arm" of the Democratic Party

"Barney Frank … had a fellow running basically a full-service whorehouse in his basement."— MSNBC commentator PAT BUCHANAN, on the Aug. 29 edition of "MSNBC Live With Dan Abrams," repeating allegations about the openly gay Democratic congressman from Massachusetts that were specifically disproved in a 1989 House Ethics Committee investigation.

"Would I exclude foreign Muslims from settlement in the U.S.A.? Yes, I would."— National Review Online columnist JOHN DERBYSHIRE in a Sept. 20 column.

"They wanna fight the white devil. … Black devils stalking their streets every night … can't go fight that. That would be snitching."— Fox News Radio host JOHN GIBSON, on the Sept. 21 edition of his show, criticizing black anti-racism protesters in Jena, La.

"Media Matters is a gay, fascist website. … They're utter vermin."— Host MICHAEL SAVAGE, on the Sept. 26 edition of Talk Radio Network's "Savage Nation," discussing a website that publishes transcripts of his controversial remarks quotes on this page were compiled from media accounts, web pages, e-mail groups and media matters for america, a website that monitors the far right." (Link here)

Yep, I think I will be sticking this progressive thing out.

Key word there is "former". Klan recruiting has since been turned over to the Republican Party in case your dumb ass wasn't paying attention. Since you're quote happy:

Conservative glossary:

Public Option: Health care for blacks, illegals and other lazy populations that will be paid for by hard-working real Americans that live in the south and sit at home all day listening to Rush Limbaugh while waiting on the socialist mailman to bring their welfare check to the trailer park.

Czar: A advisory position for republican presidents, but a sign of the oncreep of socialism when done by democratic, un-american, dark, funny-named presidents. Because the root word of socialism is social, and social is the first part of social worker, and most social workers on TV work in cities, and who lives in cities? Black People. And who's black? Barack Obama. Get it?

Ronald Reagan: The greatest motherfucker of all time, living or dead. Way better than that motherfucking Kanye West.

NAACP: The single most destructive organization in America today. Blacks and other minorities didn't really need this organization, because conservatives would have seen the error of their ways and given minorities their deserved rights on our own, but they made us, and now we don't like them very much. Really, how bad was slavery? It was great exercise, no?

Black Republicans: A rare breed of patriot that can be counted on with ready statistics on black on black crime, good for strategic photo-ops, always knows to not criticize obvious racism while ignoring covert racism directed at people of color. Sometimes seen on Fridays guest-hosting conservative radio shows when the regular host needs a three or four day weekend.

Tea-Baggers: Real Americans who are so patriotic that they would die than submit to a totalitarian system that gives people socialized programs like Social Security, Medicare, The Interstate Highway system, The Armed Forces of the United States of America, and a Public School system.

Poor People: The bane of civilization. If they would just get off their asses and get the jobs at the places where we don't accept their applications and/or trash their resumes, everything would be OK. Because real patriots never stop looking for a job, even after we tell you that we will never hire anyone who's not blonde with a great set of tits.

Was that before or after Strom Thurman? U.S. Senator 1954-1956;1956-2003, became Republican in 1964, seven years after the longest filibuster in Senate history against the Civil Rights Act of 1957. If you will note that is when a lot of Dixiecrats infiltrated the Republicans and thus began the successful southern strategy.

The Republicans haven't been clean they just use more code words and during Jim Crow since both parties in the south were racist, Black folk voted their other interest.

The Republicans since Richard Nixon have done nothing to end discrimination in housing, red lining, Small Business Administration loan discrimination or stopped Urban Renewal, which has destroyed many Black business which the Republicans constantly extort Blacks about. They never compliment, even their own Black members, when their accomplishments help Black folk, e.g. bank ownership, unless they are into Black bashing as well.

Senator Benjamin R. Tillman, senator 1895 - 1918. This is before the radical Republicans were totally expunged from the Republican party.

I'm waiting to see how congress fares in the months ahead, how many republicans will be reelected, and how many will replace democrats in both houses of congress.

I think that'll be the litmus test as to how the republican ploy of opposing President Obama on every proposal he offers, even down to what he'll say to school children, will play.

One thing for sure, republicans aren't winning over black converts en masse. Their attacks on President Obama are too remindful of the Civil Rights movement of the fifties and sixties.

If their only strategy is to appeal to their base, and not to Independents, and disaffected Democrats, then they lose.

Much of their efforts might be designed to make Democrats disaffected, so that they may offer an alternative, but the tactics themselves are so disaffecting, that they're turning many off that might consider joining up.

The republican strategy to attack, and to attack, may in the end be President Obama's "Waterloo," but his bones of defeat will mingle with theirs.

Perhaps that is their aim: Destroy Obama at any cost, even if it means their own demise.

Now that's sacrifice!

Or the desperation of a political party who can't tolerate the loss of power, not even for a administration or two, that's not their own.

Some of you people need to know the truth about Black History!

When the Englishman arrived here, Black Indian's had possession of the LAND! why do you think most Black's are mixed with different breed's of Indian's!

Black's came from the Island's and interbred with the Original land owner's, that being the Native INDIAN'S!!! the White man stole land from Black's Indian's as well as the original Native INDIAN!

When the Englishman arrived in this country they brought with them Slave's! they were White Slave's! they were treated as bad as the black slave's!!!! look up WHITE SLAVE'S .COM!

The Englishman went to Africa and collected Black Slave's to work the Land!!!! and these so called Englishmen were called Christian PURITAN'S, now they tried to teach Christianity to the Native's but, they would not receive it! but the Black Slave's embraced it!

You may ask why I am writing this, well, some White American's know their TRUE HISTORY! they know the Real TRUTH! some of our people know certain thing's but, not ALL! some of it has been Intentionally hid out!!! why do you think we know so little about our history? but I was told, their are Black History book's HID deep down in the Library!

If you pay attention, you will hear the Tea Party people say thing's like (OUR FOREFATHER'S this and that) these people are fighting for their Survival as a people! they know they are the minority!

The REP/CON do not want Minority's to join them, they put on a front, they may have a few black's here and their but, that's all they WANT! they are basically TRUE to their FOREFATHER'S! they hold true to the Constitution! that's all they have left! and beside's, some of their ancestor's were White Slave's! these people are afraid the President will Enslave them one day! one poster said( White Slavery)they know someting we don't know! they have a Family tree!

Anti-racist organization? Once was, now they are as bad as the people they once fought against,
They even participated in the Duke Rape Hoax and gave a black role model award to that ass from Grey's Anatomy who couldn't stop saying "faggot".

"They wanna fight the white devil. … Black devils stalking their streets every night … can't go fight that. That would be snitching."— Fox News Radio host JOHN GIBSON, on the Sept. 21 edition of his show, criticizing black anti-racism protesters in Jena, La.

Nothing at all racist about this. It eludes to how some black leaders refer to white people as the devil but it ain't white "devils" who are victimizing black folks- it's black "devils". And the "stop snitchin" mentality is why less black on black crime gets solved. 100% true.

BTW, you can also dredge up 1000's of racist quotes from African American leaders from Cynthea McKKKInley to Rev Wright. If what SOME conservatives say reflect badly on all of them the same be true for African American community leaders and their followers

The word "race" appears 441 MILLION times in the last year, in a Google search of USA English usage. This is so even when you exclude unrelated topics that might use the word "race" like "bicycle -bike -foot -athletic -grease -run"."

The word "race" (raça) appears two million times in a Google search of Brazilian usage over the last year.

So, even adjusted for population, USA people used the word "race" 150 times more often than Brazilian people over the last year.

Above you say, "What followed was a lively discussion about politics, race, (sic) [politics of skin color] and the problems of urban A-merry-ca."

So what difference does it make if you remove the word "race" and replace it with the phrase "politics of skin color"?

The only difference is that white supremacists love the word "race" because their view of their role in the world is based on their conviction that their white "race" is superior. But if "race" doesn't exist, then it's impossible for "race" to be what makes them better than us. They have to fall back on skin color, and an Obama-electing majority of Americans agree that skin color alone can't make one person better than another.

So what's wrong with using the word "race"? It's a validation of white supremacist ideology. You say you won't cosign Republican bullshit, but everytime you and they agree that what separates us is "race" and not reaction to people's skin color, you are validating THEIR view and showing that you don't have a view of your own.

Field my Brother I have two quotes that sums up the essense of the black conservatives:

"Black conservatives are really frustrated slaves crawling back to the
plantation, figuratively, letting their master know that they are willing to go back into bondage. One needs to question their words because, as slaves and enemies of their people, they will say what they are told to say and do what they are told to do. The Black conservatives have nothing to conserve except their miserable obscurity and their tragic cowardice. These pathetically lost creatures and avid White-behind kissers don't have the nerve to be African or Black."
John Henrik Clarke

“If you can control a man’s thinking you do not have to worry about his action. When you determine what a man shall think you do not have to concern yourself about what he will do. If you make a man feel that he is inferior, you do not have to compel him to accept an inferior status, for he will seek it himself. If you make a man think that he is justly an outcast, you do not have to order him to the back door. He will go without being told and if there is no back door, his very nature will demand one.” Dr. Carter G. Woodson
The Miseducation of The Negro 1934
Is it possible to be a Negro conservative when American conservatism is inextricably tied to racism, the obstruction of every single step of black progress, and the dichotomous syndrome of black inferiority and white supremacy? Isn't it a butt-neckit contradiction? Is it real or is it Memorex? Let’s see. To paraphrase our last president, “bring it on"

Exactly, how are you going to label this Obama's America? Fights between children have happened before President Obama was elected or even ran for President.

Now, I don't uphold what happened. However, we're not going to blame this on President Obama. That's BS and Rush Limbaugh needs to stop inciting this type of BS and be held accountable for it too.

GrannyStandingforTruth said...

I understand people being upset about what happened on the bus. I'd be upset too if was my kid. Nevertheless, to try to blame the President for what happened is beyond ridiculous and petty. For the record this is not "President Obama's America", it is "We the people's America" and to try to label it as "Obama's America is just a slick way of trying to suggest and usher in segregation again. What really makes it an idiotic comment is the fact that America is already segregated, or haven't you noticed in neighborhoods, schools and it's done openly and subtly.

President Obama isn't and hasn't suggested any type of racism. It's the right side that has been playing the so-called race card all along. Rush is high on that list of playing the race card, and so is Hannity, Beck, O'Reilly, Dobbs, Coulter, Malkin, some in the GOP party, and the rest of the Fox New crew. Not one from that side has spoke out against it. Not one! Therefore, trying to blame President Obama for the racism going on in this country is an outright blatant LIE!

The GOP party are the whimps for not speaking out against it. The reason they are not speaking out against it is because they are the main cheerleaders. I don't know what happened to the GOP party but it is sure not what it used to be.

GrannyStandingforTruth said...

Kids fight on buses all the time, they were fighting on buses way, way before the election.
Why didn't the bus driver do something, like pull over, or something. If this kid has been bullied before, how come the school did nothing about it? How come schools don't introduce anti-bully type programs when kids are young? Or anti-racist programs?

Schools can do more intervention, but it seems like they rather pretend they don't see.

Limpaugh is a complete idiot, he sounds more and more like David Duke, or a stormfront channel. It does seem like the Republicans have turned into stormfront.

finally though, i must recall chicken george's comment in Roots: The Next Generations.

Man, that comment about Muslims breaking the Ramadan fast being like cockroaches makes me want to throw up. I just broke bread a few days ago with some Muslim friends when they were sitting down for their main meal of the day at sunset.

What is it with these GOP idiots? Have they got nothing else to do with their worthless lives than dump shit on the rest of us?

Race Traitor:

The other day when Pelosi talked about what led up to the climate when Harvey Milk was murdered. How well, I remember that because I worked across the street at the Federal building at that time. The same day he was murdered, I was on my way over there to pick up a document that I needed. Before, I could climb the stairs the police were swarming all over the place. Someone told me that there had been a shooting. When Diane came out and announced Harvey Milk’s assassination. I was standing right there in the crowd.

I knew Harvey, Diane, and Representative Leo Ryan. Matter of fact, I had just visited Ryan’s office a few days before he left to go to Jonestown and was laughing and joking with him and one of his aides. A woman that worked with me, her family was some of the victims in Jonestown massacre. I will never forget how she broke down and cried saying that she tried to tell them that Jim Jones was not right and not to go over there.

I witnessed a lot of America’s past history that was a horrible part of America’s past. Although, I guess you really could not avoid that if you lived in certain parts of America during that time. There were so many things going on you could not help but witness it.

Race Traitoress said...

Granny - I'm humbled by your experience. I was a college freshman exiled in southern Utah when Jonestown happened and Leo Ryan was killed, yet I remember so clearly the horror and fear, especially that a US Congressman could be gunned down with impunity. I was young enough and naive enough to be shocked.

I guess that's why those who are "playing" at smearing Obama (I'm not talking about those who rationally disagree with his policies) and those who are giving their own racism free rein make me so angry. On the one hand I ask--do they know they're playing with fire? Are they aware how their hateful rhetoric promotes violence? There is something in me that wants to believe that they, too, are naive. . .but I'm only fooling myself.

These are the best of times, these are the worst of times. . .

I remember how they slaughtered those students at Kent State University. Although, I wasn't there I remember it. That happened under GOP rule. Why does the GOP party hate schools of higher learning?

Kathy:

Out this way, we have something like an anti-bully programs and classes that teach diversity if I remember correctly I read something about it back a few years ago.

It is sad to see White men covering up for other White men, they cover up when they do not come forth and tell the God's honest truth!

We have the Liberal White men that say they support the President but, yet they will not be Brave enough to tell people like LIMBAUGH that he is trying to cause a RACE WAR, say what you will about White racist men but, they stick together, look how they came to Joe Wilson's rescue!

I can count on my finger's the White men that have spoke against RACISM! Jimmy Carter put his life on the line and yet, how many other so called Liberal White men came forth to back him up? they were trying to make every excuse in the book as to why All those Tea Party people were protesting! and they knew deep down inside it was Racism! so for this, they are just as Guilty as BECK and his KLAN!

The President has to put on a front when asked the question about RACISM! he has to pretend RACISM is not the main reason White Racist are going stark raving MAD! he know's this is about him being a Black President! look at the people who are acting up, WHITE, WHITE, and more WHITE, why didn't we see BLACK, HISPANIC'S, ASIAN'S, at those TEA PARTY'S rally's? why all of a sudden someone is trying to take away Their America/ why weren't they screaming this when BUSH was President? look's like Racism to me, and nothing but, RACISM!

This is an extremely intelligent group so I'd like to pose this question...What is the middle ground between the grace Obama has displayed thus far and the rage FN and the rest of us feel at the likes of Joe Wilson? Each time I bring this up with friends they are stumped. I also ask this how do we tell our children to be proud of this man and hold him up as a role model when he appears to get punked at every turn.

@Monie are you not a fan of Cynthia McKinney?

Anonymous said...

Field I think this is a common perspective for a lot of non-WASPs too. I remember a Catholic friend of mine who couldn't understand those conservative Catholics who were willing to get in bed with the GOP and conservative evangelicals on abortion. He said "these people call us the whore of Babylon, they came after us with the klan, they think we're evil, not christians, and regularly discriminate..." and so on. How can you hang out with someone who treats you like that? Same with a Jewish friend who is appalled with the relationship some conservative Jews have developed with rapture believing right wingers who base their end times and Christ's return on Israel's destruction. It's crazy what some will do.

I just don't see how anyone who isn't a white right wing fundie could be comfortable around the GOP. I know not all GOPers are right wing fundies but they're so prevalent that you're going into a situation where a very large portion of the party openly hates you and/or is at fundamental odds with ideals you hold dear.

I think Cynthia is a good spokesperson for certain causes but I don't think she's a good National candidate.

@ brotha Field,

i think you are using "progressive" to loosely. progressive ≠ democrat. The POTUS is center left on most issues. and even on "progressive" issues like healthcare its misleading given that fact that the insurance fat cats will remain in the equation.

also, the black republican MLK pic included in your post reminds us that "bad blood" with the dems (the slave holding party) was far more enduring. in fact, if i recall correctly, MLK Jr. was a Republican right up until he was jailed in Birmingham...But What have the dems done for us lately?

If "progressive" is really your orientation then you need to be looking seriously at third party options. kzs

November 6, 1956 Martin Luther King and Ralph Abernathy vote for Republican Dwight Eisenhower for President. Democrat President John F. Kennedy and Democrat Senator Al Gore, Sr. voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act while they were senators. Kennedy opposed the 1963 March on Washington by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which was organized by A. Phillip Randolph who was a BLACK REPUBLICAN.

The Ghetto Intellectual™ said...

@ emptysuit,

i should be clear. the Dems are a better option, they just ain't a progressive option. racist white people flocked to the republican party in the 60s in response to the civil rights movement. kzs

The Ghetto Intellectual™ said...

progressives need to get serious about a viable third party movement. kzs

April 9, 1866 Republican Congress overrides Democrat President Johnson’s veto; Civil Rights Act of 1866, conferring rights of citizenship on African-Americans, becomes law. That's why Johnson was impeached. Democrat President Andrew Johnson declared: “This is a country for white men, and by God, as long as I am President, it shall be a government of white men” February 3, 1870 with 98% Republican support and 97% Democrat opposition, Republicans’ 15th Amendment is ratified. White Racist Democrats have alway hated Blacks. The 82nd Airborne Division was sent to Little Rock, AR to force Democrat Governor Orval Faubus to integrate public schools. Blacks only jumped to the Democratic party when Nixon was in office.

The Ghetto Intellectual™ said...

@ "emptysuit"

agreed, if your point is to show how the political winds have changed, fine. but if your point is that black folks should flee to the republican party you are wasting keystrokes. you have completely ignored the fact that the republican party, from the 1960s forward, has been mostly supported by white supremacist.

Anonymous said...

so you're also a follower of Jewish supremacist and smear merchant Morris Dees? Besides, it's been proven that most contributions which go to SPLC end up in the salaries of himself and his cronies.

Next, FN will be demanding that all Palestinians get out of Palestine. How revolting.

Do you black people still meekly follow Jews? I thought that Jessie's reference to 'Hymietown' might have woken you up.

FN, just because you have a low IQ doesn't mean that you have to be a puppet. Try to strand up on your own and stop being a toadie for white and Jewish liberals. Show some self respect.

Anonymous said...

oh wow, now that is funny :)

BrookLyn thinks this is an "intelligent group". She obviously only mingles with her own kind (urban black racists) and doesn't know any better, the poor dear.

Then she goes on to ask for advice on how to make her children into hatemongers. When they ultimately end up in prison, she'll say it's because of "racism".

Live by the sword... end up in prison, BrookLyn. Will you visit your children often there once they've walked the road you've paved for them?

Anonymous said...

leave FN alone with the Jewish thing. If he needs to kiss Jewish butt in order to get along, that's okay by me. Maybe his income even depends on it. Is FN in Philadelphia? They have a lot of power there, it's not his fault.

Anon, you like to use the word IQ a lot. I am curious; do you even know what it means? And if you do, what exactly is yours? I know mine.:)

My favorite charity against yours that it's at least 15 points higher. ;)

emptysuit,
Many black registered Democrats voted for Eisenhower, it had to do with ending the Korean Conflict. There were many young men dying including Black men, it was too much to bare, just after WWI. Maybe you didn't hear your parents or grand parents speak of the anxiety of the times or perhaps you were not born. You can not speculate or imply what Dr King and Rev. Abernathy reasons for voting or who they actually voted for. Their political beliefs were not the focus of their oratory or the SCLC.

Now that you brought up A. Philip Randolf, I did not check to see if he was a registered Republican, but even so, the party was so much more inclusive in those times. Can you imagine an avid union organizer as a member of the Republican party now. Just being an organizer is akin to being a communist, just ask Sarah Palin.

Hathor said...

FN,
Looking at the sign again, I think the King family should sue. Using Kings image to further their agenda is despicable. Any Black historical figure who was not known for their political affiliation should not be used. If they have a sense of history, there are several heroic Republican Congressmen during reconstruction they could have on their banner. The thing is, there are a group of conservative who are tying to rehabilitate the south and that includes making the Black congressmen of that era appear to be buffoons.

brooklyn:

there is no such thing as a bloodless revolution

and there is no "middle ground" in righteousness

ie

fascist endless wars, rabid icy elitism, blatant incessant lying, abusing the poor, and ruthless gaybashing... and ALL the things that obama/gwb2.0 and his ilk actually do/wage are ALWAYS COMPLETELY wrong

my parents taught me ONE standard of morality and i apply it to OBAMA and EVERYONE else irrespective of trivia like race/mixed blood/popularity etc...

ie

that is why i adore coretta and martin...they demanded and epitomized the very same righteousess of ALL people and politcos irrespective of race...

see more:

we should never teach children to avoid righteous rage
we should teach them to channel their rage productively
all of my s/heros embraced their rage and used it to fuel rebellion and change!

Stunning.
Like certain people who frequent this blog he thinks that the dems have tried and failed the inner cities. And while I agree with that to an extent
Filled Negro - If it is in fact true that this Black Republican (that you probably made up) did tell you that the salvation to the Black Community's problems can be found in the Republican Party I'm actually disappointed that you didn't give him a "Philly Pimp Smack".

We can't afford to be sold out to another entity that resides in the American Political state. There are too many communities around that can show the damaging results of this strategy.

(ultimately, it won't be dems or repubs who save us, we will have to save ourselves)
So is THIS WHY you are rejected the "Public Option" and instead are seeking to quadruple the number of BLACK PHYSICIANS generated by the education system in the next 12 years?
there is nothing that he told me that made me believe that right wing or republican rule would be better for black folks in A-merry-ca.
Truthfully I wonder how much worse DETROIT could get if a trained sea otter made decisions based upon which type of fish he chose from a list of 5 choices. Below the fish would be an option for policy to be implemented.
