Was this man a racist, or just a guy trying to make the Negro voter feel more comfortable?

*
I am feeling good right about now, because I just watched my birds thump the Colts. But a quick rant: The NFL has got to do something about the officiating in their league. I know they want to cut down on injuries, but this is tackle--- not touch football. There was nothing illegal about this hit.

Anyway, I don't usually do this, but I have known this blogger for a long time. He sent me a post of a recent experience he had, and I think it is important enough to share. Dude was seriously pissed off after recently going to vote and realising that some folks were unfortunately still stuck in the sixties.

"When Voting And Racism Collide:

Meet John Barr; [*Pictured above] Ypsilanti Township, Mich racist.

I met John this past Tuesday (Nov 2) when I went to my polling location to vote.

Backstory:

Over the last few months, I had been debating how I would vote for Mich governor. I was or torn between voting for a republican whom I felt was competent and a needed change for the state or voting for the democratic option who reminded me of Rod Blagojevich that makes my skin crawl.

Tuesday: Day One

The day of the vote I kinda just said fuck it all. I can’t vote for any of these fools. Why does it always seem like we have to choose between two evils? With that said, I decided not to vote.

Yeah, I said I decided not to vote.

OK, so now, I’m leaving work headed home and I get near my polling place and did an about face and decided to vote.

I guess karma was on my side because the location was not super busy and I got a parking space right at the door.

As I’m getting out my car, I was approached by a man passing out literature for candidates that he was supporting. Then he took it a step further and said let’s get Virg Bernero (the democrat) in the governor’s office. I explained that there was no way that I was going to vote for him.

After I made my statement, his tone changed and he started acting like he was my real daddy or something breaking down how republicans are not for us, the greater good of Negro people, how he would be better for business blah blah blah!

Then he went on to tell me that he owns a liquor store and funeral home. I was like really? Then I asked if he laid to rest any of his alcoholic customers from his store. I was just being an asshole…

Minutes later, I’m in line to vote.

I hand over my ID and the person looks me up then she hands me my voter application to get my ballot.

I then move to the ballot line, which is where John Barr and I 1st made contact.

I approach John with my ID and voter application in hand and greeted him with a hello. He extends his hands to take my information and reciprocates my greeting.

As he was looking me up, he asked “how is your gangsta’ rap group going?” Taken aback, I said excuse me. He then repeated the question looking me dead in my eyes. I then asked John what made him think that I was in a gangsta’ rap group. He exclaimed “everyone with hair like that is a gangsta rapper!”

At this point, I shouted back “are you racially profiling me as I attempt to vote? Are you serious? Do you really mean to intimidate me at the voting poll in the year 2010?”

All I got back from my line of questioning was a dumb ass blank stare that only an imbecile could give.

I then demanded to see someone in charge!!!

Moments later, a very sweet woman approached me and I explained what happened. All the while she was in utter shock. At the end of my rant, she asked me to not leave so that she could process me personally as she dismissed John.

As she handed me a ballot, she requested that I not leave so that she could get me in touch with the township clerk.

So I now have my ballot and I’m in the booth PISSED off.

As I stated before, I was going to vote for the republican gubernatorial candidate but then I started having civil rights flashbacks and said fuck that, I can’t go that way.

After the ballot was completed, I handed it back to the sweet lady (she had be to in her 70s). She thanked me for my patience and told me that the township clerk; Karen Lovejoy Roe was waiting to see me at her nearby office.." [More]

And, to think, Tafari was actually considering voting for the republican for governor. (The guy supporting the dumbocratic candidate was no better)

But hey, Tafari, maybe the guy was just making small talk. You know, just breaking the ice. I am sure he didn't want to discourage you from voting. That would have been [un]A-merry-can.

People forgot how good Vick is, the man is gifted. If he can get the Philly fans on his side then you know being from philly that's something.

As far as your man at the voting booth, there's no need to get emotional, because that's what they expect. It may have been necessary though to get Richard Pryor, Robin Harris, or Bernie Mack on that ass with a smile on his face. Leave the person feeling dumb and like shit. Don't get mad, check him and then go vote.

Field, your friend sounded like he wasn't going to vote anyway. And he voted for a dirtbag Democrat who reminded him of Blagojevich,- because of some white person at the polls he perceived to be a racist?

Boy, that was good thinking wasn't it? lol

Interesting story Field but I am not sure the guy at the poll meant any harm, but it was a dumb thing to do. He may have been naive and ignorant more than racist.

Hey check out my first blog entry on my local blog called DredScottsGhost. I thought I would jump back into the "Fields" with my pin. I was so frustrated after my Black Agenda Report stint and their inability at the time to explain rather than just indict.

I think I am going to start a blog to talk about national and other political and cultural and yes religious issues as well. I'll probably wordier than you lol.

I just posted an editorial I wrote for the local black weekly that I used to edit on the attempts to close the only black high school in the predominantly black part of town.

Tell me what you think. Its at:

I would have asked him if the best part of him ran down the crack of his momma's ass and left it at that. I don't think you could combat that sort of imbecilism with anything other than a sturdy 2x4.

I am very glad Tafari responded the way he did, which was to report Barr's stupid ass to the appropriate authority. By taking responsible and appropriate actions, John Barr was dismissed.

It is disturbing to read comments from Jibreel and Wesley R, which put down Tafari for standing up against intimidation and blatant racism. Tafari did the RIGHT THING for himself, and for others.

Jibreel and Wesley R, however, ARE a much bigger problem than a dumb-sdd racist like John Barr. They are so emotionally constipated that they consider intimidation and insults at the polls today to be just a little 'minor' thing because no one got lynched. Anything less than that is completely acceptable. Hence, there is no need for any action to remove John Barr, let the racist do his job as long as he isn't killing Negroes). Well, Barr's insulting words were not 'acceptable' to Tafari. I respect and admire him for that.

More bm should be like Tafari instead of mindless cowardly Oaktown Negroes like Jibreel who contribute NOTHING to the strength and well-being of African Americans.

BTW, Tafari might have made a 'large' contribution to Black America for what he did at that polling place... Not only did he probably make things better for Blacks who might have come later to vote,-- but he helped the Township Clerk, and indirectly the State of Michigan with their voting procedures.

Finally, he probably helped John Barr to realize that he can't piss on every bm he sees.

I am thinking that Tafari's actions has been good for everyone, including FN posters. Thanks for the post, Field.

Smashed The Tiny Black Box said...

Well, the important thing is that Tafari complained to he authorities and he did VOTE. By helping to get rid of that jackass Barr, he helped everyone.

Usually there are heated whisperings as I pass on, hostile looks in my direction, and sometimes the poll workers can't contain themselves.
One woman blurted out at high indignation/decibel level, "You should be ASHAMED of yourself"!
I have also heard "fuckhead" and "asshole" directed toward me in a somewhat more quiet way.
And I am "caucasian" ... for what good it does me.

Boss Tweed and his observation on voting always comes to mind when I vote, as does Emma Goldmann. Who the hell do I think I'm kiddin' when I "participate"?

I hate to do this, but your being a white woman and all precludes you from viewing this issue from a certain historical and current sociological perspective. Perhaps you want to make yourself clearer on what you're trying to say, for the sake of everyone else here.

you see the ghosts of racism everywhere you turn.

Same story with a white guy. White guy hands his ID over to the old coot election volunteer. Old Volunteer notices the guys really long hair and says how is your heavy metal satanist band doin?

Some People are so convinced everyone hates them because of their skin color that they see racism in every action and word.

Last conversation I had with someone who has proceeded to place themselves in the moron and totally ignore category is a neighbor. We were talking about movies, I couldnt remember the name of a Black actor...she called me racist, said she knows that all Blacks look alike to me...I said. No, I am just not a woman who remembers every actors name. Moral of the story. I wont even talk to this crazy racist woman anymore. These racism chaser stories get more and more absurd because the fiction of Black oppression gets harder and harder to maintain. The election of Barack Obama has endangered the myth of a Racist Amerikka. In this environment the convention that structural disadvantages and white attitudes account for the lack of black success in business and the professions, for disproportionate rates of incarceration and poverty, for the whole host of ills for which each white individually is daily hectored to feel responsibility, as a feature of collective guilt, is not merely unsupportable, it's absurd.

Barack Obama effortlessly assumes the mantle of grievance for the greatest sins of the nation--slavery, segregation, disenfranchisement. But, contrary to the habitual assumption, his unique personal history gives him not a greater understanding of this history, having neither the typical black American nor typical white American experience, but a lesser understanding. Barack Obama stood outside of this epic dynamic, looking on with envy. His choice of a fabricated identity on one side of it should disabuse us of the assumed inherent misery and unfairness imposed upon black America--no one is so fortunate to be born an American than an African American. There is no cachet in being white.

There is no historical precedent for America; yet, the more liberal, the more meritocratic our society becomes, the deeper the resentment of inequality--and, contrary to our hoary egalitarian assumptions, we can expect increasing material inequality as the result of increasing equal opportunity. The more evident this becomes the more fiercely defended the taboo against questioning collective guilt as a model for race relations. The absence of comprehensive societal equality requires ever more fanciful explanations; ever greater expressions of commitment to equality of results are required of public servants; ever greater denunciations of a nation that has taken historically unprecedented actions to achieve it. This is the pathological behavior of a neurotic society. The nation yearns for a climax, a final act of absolution. It stubbornly recedes the more we strive for it. Thus Barack.

To maintain the taboo, any resentment of this must be equated with bigotry; skeptics are ostracized and deprived of status. Propagandists distinguish themselves fashioning rationales and assigning blame for a distressing reality. In America the civil rights movement has made the familiar trek from revolution to totalitarianism.

Now that you've finished your "American Renaissance" rant could you answer a couple of questions for me?

If racism is a myth.......

Why do most white Americans (80%) live in monochromatic neighborhoods?

Why has the diverse Democratic party failed to recieve a majority of the white American vote in a Presidential election in 50 years?

How can the election of Barack Obama be proof of American non-racism when Obama

a. did not receive a majority of white American votes

b. The surging power of the Tea Party is based on anti-black sentiment

Hathor said...

This guy should have been reported to the election commission or some voter watchdog organization. Actually race has nothing to do with it. He was there to assist the voter, not to questioned unless he asked for what is required in that state, e.i. ID, voter registration card, etc.

@uptownsteve:

I'll take this one.

Living with other people of similar backgrounds makes one racist? Does this apply to everyone, or just whites?

And are you seriously asking why the party committed to the diminishment of white America has not received a majority of the white vote in 50 years? Seriously?

a) Um, you answered this question yourself when you asked why democrats haven't received a majority of the white vote in 50 years. He received about the same percentage of the white vote as previous white democratic candidates did; therefore race was not a discernible factor.

b) That is a completely indefensible assertion based on propaganda designed to de-legitimize the movement.

You're too easy, stevie.

uptownsteve said...

The deliberate avoidance of living around non-whites, the immediate moving or selling upon the arrival of non-whites makes one a racist.

"And are you seriously asking why the party committed to the diminishment of white America has not received a majority of the white vote in 50 years? Seriously?"

Please give me an example of how the Democratic party is committed to the diminishment of white America?

Are you suggesting that the mere participation of blacks in the political process is a "diminishment of whites"????

The Civil Rights Act was attack on whites??

So the guy who disagreed with your point of view is racist, thus you justify your racist name calling.

Is that all the intellectual power you can summon? Anyone who disagrees with you is a "racist" Well, that fits perfectly into the democratic mantra. Cant discuss logic and facts because reality is evident. So then they immediately slidestep into character assination and name calling.

Stop projecting. First of all no one gives a shit what people like you think anymore. Second of all, the minute you end a discussion with the racist mantra anyone with logic sees that YOU are the racist who is projecting.

Dr. White said...

Nice strawman argument uptown. No, the Civil Rights was not an "attack on whites", it was, among other things, a positive re-affirmation of American ideals.

The democratic party is committed to a racial spoils society where favored groups and classes are given special status, all at the expense of whites (particularly white males).

Why would a working class white male support a party that is committed to policies that penalize him for the color of his skin?

I don't blame blacks for supporting a democratic party that pays out favors to them based on the color of their skins. Why wouldn't they? At least until the day the chains attached to the handouts get too heavy to ignore any more. But we have along way down to get that point, don't we steve?

D. Dale said...

I'll try again. After decades of unprecedented state action and an opening up of the culture none would have imagined possible, the foreseen idyll of perfect racial equality and its ensuing harmony has faded into the harsh reality of a stubborn inequality. Inequality increasingly reveals itself as the predictable result of a society unprecedented in both its fairness and ethnic diversity.

But this cannot be said. Even as blacks gain cultural influence disproportionate to their numbers but not talents, they continue to lag in the professions and business pursuits. Meanwhile, other minority groups advance disproportionately as well up through the ranks of society. The rate of change, the opening up of opportunity in a society that not long was as segregated as the rest of the world remains to this day is nothing short of revolutionary.

It isn't only that Barack Obama renders the white/black reparations dynamic absurd. The nascent Diversity State finds itself too soon and too totally triumphant. The bogey of white oppression threatens to become no longer plausible, and those groups assigned varying stature within the hierarchy of grievance are already eyeing one another uneasily.

The regions from where America's "disadvantaged minorities" originate cannot compare in wealth, opportunity or liberty. Resentment of this humiliating reality feeds into that encouraged by the dishonest class of political opportunists represented by Obama. The language of civil rights has become an affront, no longer condemnatory of practice but of a people and a nation: the long history of Western civil liberties is only begun with the American civil rights movement and invalidated by the interlude of American slavery.

A multiracial democratic republic worthy of the name will defend equality before the law against those who equate it with equality of results. It's too late in the game to deny that fairness in hiring and education produces racial inequality--inequality that, as we've seen, does not necessarily benefit the majority. Ethnic diversity and democracy are thus at odds. This was once a given; now it is heresy. But it is heresy only because we think it's awful that it should be so. Thus far we have chosen not to reconcile a diverse population to democracy, but to reconcile democracy to a diverse population. This may be inevitable. But, the truth is always worth knowing and no subterfuge lasts forever.

You mean the status of being 3 times more likely to be jailed for an offense that a white person would get rehab or probation for?

Or maybe the status of being 50% more likely to have your resume trashed for having a "black sounding" name?

Are you totally insane?

No, you are a living example of the racism of conservatives.

They continue to peddle the lie that any advancement of black people is at the expense of whites or that blacks get "special favors" unavailable to whites.

It is a bold-faced lie and proof positive of racism.

For the record, I can't say for sure what Barr's intentions were. I doubt it had anything to do with the political circumstances.

Still, I do think Barr was racially "profiling" Tafari, but in attempt to make one of those "guy jokes", perhaps he didn't mean to be malicious.

You see, that's one of the burdens black men in general will bear due to the gansta rap crap culture they don't seem to think is doing black men and women harm. However, Barr was clearly inappropriate and should have used better judgment and professionalism due to the seriousness of the circumstances. Conservatives started dismantling AA almost as soon as it was implemented.

And all it ever was but a very modest program designed to open doors for those who had been shut out.

Meanwhile anti-black discrimination never went anywhere but covert and is practiced daily.

Bush stacks the EEOC with ideologues who don't even believe in the agencies right to exist.

Meanwhile every time some white guy yells "reverse discrimination" his case gets greased all the way up to the Supreme Court.

This wouldn't be so bad if the racial component wasn't included in many whites' motives (conscious and subconscious) for moving to/from and living in a certain area. Many people cite "crime" as a reason for living in or moving to/from an area. Sometimes it is a legitimate concern. Other times it's a codeword for "too many niggers in this neighborhood for my tastes".

"Are you suggesting that the mere participation of blacks in the political process is a "diminishment of whites"????"

He is. He is unhappy how Blacks are no longer the quiet servants and house-keeps that kept to themselves and serviced the White community while staying out of their way, never causing a fuss.

A few weeks later the law school got a phone call from the Board of Trustees telling them to find him an office, put him on the payroll, and give him a class to teach. The Board told him he didn’t have to be a member of the faculty, but they needed to give him a temporary position. He was never a professor and was hardly an adjunct.

"After decades of unprecedented state action and an opening up of the culture none would have imagined possible, the foreseen idyll of perfect racial equality and its ensuing harmony has faded into the harsh reality of a stubborn inequality. Inequality increasingly reveals itself as the predictable result of a society unprecedented in both its fairness and ethnic diversity."

So are you saying that inequality is an inherent condition that should be tolerated and that the pursuit of ethnic diversity and fairness is ultimately futile since it, in your own opinion, changes nothing? I wonder if the same was said about "Separate but Equal" and segregation in general.

"But this cannot be said. Even as blacks gain cultural influence disproportionate to their numbers but not talents, they continue to lag in the professions and business pursuits. Meanwhile, other minority groups advance disproportionately as well up through the ranks of society. The rate of change, the opening up of opportunity in a society that not long was as segregated as the rest of the world remains to this day is nothing short of revolutionary."

A lot of people overlook the generational and institutional effects that slavery and the general mistreatment of Blacks for generations on end left behind. Blacks don't have the luxury of leaving behind the negative connotations bestowed upon them as do their immigrant counterparts, unless Blacks decide to emigrate to another country. It also explains why most Blacks end up achieving more in other countries than they would if they remained here. It doesn't excuse some of the behaviors seen in the "ghetto/hood", but you have to wonder if years of being portrayed collectively as the gum on the sole of White America's boot has caused them to consign themselves and even revel in the "permanent underclass" status that America seemed to assign towards them.

"It isn't only that Barack Obama renders the white/black reparations dynamic absurd. The nascent Diversity State finds itself too soon and too totally triumphant. The bogey of white oppression threatens to become no longer plausible, and those groups assigned varying stature within the hierarchy of grievance are already eyeing one another uneasily."

Oh. Just because the federal government decides to throw Blacks a bone after mistreating them for generations on end does not suddenly absolve America's involvement in retarding the progress of Black America, nor should it automatically assign 100% blame to Blacks for not emulating the immigrant population, most whom have never been mistreated or blocked in the manner that Blacks have been blocked for so long.

"A multiracial democratic republic worthy of the name will defend equality before the law against those who equate it with equality of results. It's too late in the game to deny that fairness in hiring and education produces racial inequality--inequality that, as we've seen, does not necessarily benefit the majority."

Equating Affirmative Action with inequality, given the history of this country, is rather comical. If you want to see genuine inequality in action, you can rescind Affirmative Action and watch as the largely White employers of this nation's industries practice hiring polices based not on pure merit, as you'd ideally want, but on recruiting those the majority would feel most "comfortable" with, even if it means overlooking a Black hire with solid credentials for a White hire with slightly lesser credentials but with the similar appearance and mindset as the vast majority of his soon-to-be peers within the company.

Mack Lyons said...

"Your right, the spelling gives you away. Affirmative action schooling?"

Ah yes, the belief that the Affirmative Action hire is somehow inferior to other hires because he or she was hired "because of their race". Legacy hires and cases of nepotism don't get the same sort of scorn.

These people should just man up and admit that they hate Blacks and anything that helps Blacks. At least they'll be respected for their honesty and forthcomingness. It leads me to believe that our parents and grandparents had an easier time fighting during the Civil Rights era. At least the enemy was out there, front and center, telling everyone who he was and how unashamed he was for being.

So I guess you buy into the white basketball league meme? First of all, you're recruited to the NBA because you're Black, NBA players are recruited on athletic prowess and height. Now, given the selective breeding during slavery (yes, my people were bred like horse), a focus of athletics as an outlet and cultural reasons, you find a lot of Black guys in the NBA.

Also, you once again ignore history. You do realize that until recently, Blacks simply weren't allowed to compete in America's major sports (baseball, basketball, football, boxing). It took great strides by many athletes to integrate American sports.

But there I go, pointing out historical facts and analysis.

Mack Lyons said...

"That is quite simply not true. American blacks are the richest, best educated, healthiest black population on the planet. They have achieved the highest levels of success throughout american society including, you may have noticed, the Presidency."

I love it when people mention how a biracial man made it to the presidency, as though that washes away untold generations of Black mistreatment and inequality. Meanwhile, Blacks enjoy the disproportionally highest rates of incarceration, poverty and lack of education. The wealthiest Blacks are not in finance, medicine, heavy industry or mainstream media, nor do they have their hands on the levers of this country's socioeconomic engine -- they're entertainers and athletes, two occupations where they can influence people's perceptions but ultimately can't direct the real flow of power for any geniunely positive use.

"Do you really think the only reason blacks have jobs is affirmative action? What a low opinion you have as regards the competitiveness of black America. Companies that don't take the best employees can't compete with companies who hire on merit. That's the beauty of capitalism."

Wonderful how you reverse the argument by saying I'm the one who has a low opinion of Black America's competitiveness. When you have an entire country that holds a collective vision of Blacks as "physically strong yet feeble minded thugs and buffoons", it's hard for a lone Black American to overcome such a wrongheaded perception and encourage others to disabuse themselves of such. Not when it's constantly reinforced on a day-to-day basis.

Companies are no longer competing on any merits other than subterfuge, sheer size and staying power. You'll see this once NBC and Comcast combine into an odious media comglomerate verging on monopoly status. General Motors, pre-Obama, represented the sort of nepotic power structure that left it a literal zombie, filled to the brim with incompetent executives and managers and a largely lackadaisial workforce. The current economic meltdown was caused by sheer greed, plain and simple.

Team owners are not recruiting Black players out of some obligation to right a moral wrong. When it became apparent that Black players could outperform White players by an obsurd margin and that any team that wouldn't recruit Black players would end up being crushed, then and only then did Black players flood the NBA, NFL and college sports. I'm not sure how that would fit into your meritocratic narrative.

Meanwhile, the only places in the NFL that still have a notable White presence are within the ownership, the coaching staff and the quarterback position. It's funny how White players are still being groomed for the QB job.

D. Dale @ 12:39: "The language of civil rights has become an affront, no longer condemnatory of practice but of a people and a nation"'

Because committing an actual transgression is no longer needed as a prerequisite for guilt; it is enough to be white and american.

But we all know this. In the absence of honesty and rationality, race relations in the United States constitute a tightly controlled market of sorts where the humiliation of racial inequality is negotiated using proxies such as these manufactured controversies and their attendant "dialogues." Because the official mandate is an unachievable equality of results, naturally occurring inequality constitutes a continuing, compounding debt that is serviced by such as these conspicuous sacrifices (John Barr, Don Imus, the Duke lacrosse team, etc.); they are interest payments of a sort.

But it isn't only the delicate pride of black America that is served; white America purchases something, albeit at an increasing premium. There exists on the part of the majority an ever present fear, sustained by the knowledge that the expectation of equality can never be met but is increasingly expected. The majority lives in a state of continual unease, as violence in the form of riots (called "uprisings" or "rebellions") and street crime is characterized by the culture (through the romance of rap and cinema) as a legitimate means of achieving equity when all else fails (and all else is certain to fail in the end).

Thus, as the influential classes implicitly understand and acknowledge, it isn't a question of truth, or, ironically, justice, but a question of assuaging the resentment of one group and the fear of another, thus the ceremonial and conspicuous displays of pilfered wealth, the ritual debasement of "privileged" Great White Defendants, and the reward of status for those who manage this market.

But a market based on an increasingly obvious falsity cannot last. The fiction is becoming an industry joke. The divide between reality and the market grows, and is harder and harder to conceal. The posted prices bear no relation to real-world valuations. The market strains. How will its collapse unfold? What will take its place?

Dr. White said...

Mack Lyons said..."I'm not sure how that would fit into your meritocratic narrative."

Are you really that dense? That was my point: the NBA is a purely meritocratic, fair employer, and it's employees are NOT made up of a workforce that represents the diversity of the society as a whole. One group (blacks) out performs the others.

In 2010 America, purely meritocratic employers are the norm. The question is then, why do we insist that their workforces, from top to bottom, exactly represent the percentage of the various groups that make up society as a whole?

No matter how hard whites worked at it, it is unlikely that they could earn 75% of the NBA roster spots purely on merit. Right?

By the same token, no matter how hard they study, blacks will probably never make up 12% of mathmatics Phd students.

As a diverse society, we will have to someday accept the reality that one cannot have equality of opportunity AND equality of outcome. Unless it is restricted artificially (i.e. affirmative action) talent will inevitably rise to the top.

Okaaay, I guess getting pulled over and shot in your own driveway because of the color of your skin is "manufactured". Please don't let me get out my Air R's and start chasing. I would be running all night.

BTW, there is really no dialogue. A dialogue would require two people who are BOTH willing to acknowledge a problem.

I'm sorry but I just had to laugh at the comment about the Democrats being the anti-white party. Since the founding of this country there has been an absolute bias towards white males and everything legal and illegal was done to keep them in power. Sure, Rush Limbaugh and others of his ilk make millions peddling the myth of white male persectution but since they benefitted from Affirmative Action for so many years the myth of the hard working white male was endangered so they did what they do best, ignore real history and make up their own. You see it now as Beckkk tries to imply it was white conservatives who were really behind the civil rights movement when in reality they opposed it. They tried this crap in the airlines as white males make up about 85% of all professional pilots but they started whining about all the Blacks and women "stealing" their jobs. White males cannot get over the notion that they are just like everyone else, no more intelligent or hard working than me or you. Because they bought into the myth of racial superiority they have to suppress the inate abilities of other groups i.e. women and people of color to perpetuate this myth. It worked for years but then came the day of exposure when we proved to be just as capable and in some cases even more capable than them. This pushback you see from Dr. White and others like him is the natural response to those who fancy themselves superior without cause. I fly with enough mediocre white male pilots to know it is indeed a myth. Keep up the fight UTS! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O01PUOxE5Wk&feature=related

Pilot X, I agree, that ani-white crack was kind of laughable. It was analogous to a hooker complaining about motels that charge by the hour.

Laugh all you want, but you know it's true.

And PilotX, the only group being suppressed, by official and express policies of the federal government, is of course white males.

I have to agree that this is a most idiotic story. Why so sensitive and then shouting about racial profiling and being an ass?

Most white folks behave this way because they're fed this stereotypical stuff daily and how can you blame them when we have some brothers and sisters just waiting for an opportunity to be able to play a coon.

When I joined the Navy and went to get a haircut on the base,I was put through the ringer and the bastard had the temerity to drag the machine through my hair. I never went back and because of this experience I learned to cut my own hair. Also I remembered in High School asking a teacher for the newspapers and he gave me the sports section when I actually wanted to read the other part of the paper. Black folks go through this nonsense daily so I just don't get this guy being surprise and calling the guy a racist.
Seems to me that the guy was just being a clown and the blogger was taking himself too seriously. Why didn't he put up a picture of himself so we can get an idea of what the guy may have been talking about with regards to his hair since that was the ice breaker!

Anon 1:43 am, if you went to the link in the post and checked out the guy's blog you would see his picture.

Actually this is not surprising. I grew up in Ypsilanti (went to high school with his sister) and this guy is the son of a prominent attorney in Ypsilanti. Ypsilanti
is a blue collar town, mostly auto workers (both black and white). So if your parents did not work in the auto industry, you felt some kind of entitlement over those that did. Sadly, his comments are nothing new. Growing up, these type of comments were often made by those who were not part of the auto industry. Honestly, I believe there was jealousy because the auto industry (before the economic crash) was the great " economic equalizer" in Michigan. While his
father was a lawyer making six figures, he probably lived next door to someone making just as much as his father with
just a high school diploma. There was a lot of resentment.

Sounds like you answered your own question Black Man.

"All I got back from my line of questioning was a dumb ass blank stare that only an imbecile could give."

Why would you waist time with an imbecile?

Check out my new blog "Tafari Stevenson-Howard Is A Big Fat Idiot," tag- Blogger: User Profile: Unknown. This brain-dead troublemaking idiot who has a site called "Tafari's Mind Spill," wrote
a blog about me wrongly calling me a racist on "When Voting and Racism Collide," also linked to a dozen other sites. Stevenson-Howard gives a "ghetto disclaimer" on his website which apparently allows him to make as much trouble as he wants and then run away without being forced to take any responsibility for his actions. It reads, "Many of my post(sic) may be filled with typos, ignorant statements, untruths, bad English & anything else that may make me appear to be uneducated. Please note: all of these things combined make my Blog the perfect one, because you know I have issues & I am not ashamed. With this said; enjoy, fuck mistakes & read between the lines. I am a Detroit-raised son, husband, father, student, teacher, and photographer who is a blogging photographer who loves to talk a lot of shit and enjoys exotic libations." I am hoping someone can help join me in a class-action lawsuit against him and get this idiot's site shut down. Interestingly, I understand this idiot is "going through a nasty divorce" and his wife just kicked him out of the house. I am hoping that she takes him for all that she can!

UPDATE: A couple of weeks ago Tafari Stevenson-Howard posted on his idiot "Mind Spill" that this year he has been badly divorced, lost the relationship with his daughters, AND declared BANKRUPTCY!
Wow, amazing! Talk about KARMA!

And the really amazing thing is that some people are probably STILL going to keep paying attention to this idiot Stevenson-Howard and his idiot rantings and demands for respect while doing idiotic behavior!
