He thinks that the "tree of liberty" needs watering.

Wingnuts love the latest essay from FOX NEWS legal analyst, Andrew Napolitano. Mr. Napolitano wrote a passionate plea for the right to bear arms in the Washington Times.

The gist of his rant was that automatic weapons are needed to shoot tyrants and not just game. To Napoliatano, and others like him, the right to keep and bear arms "is an extension of the natural right to self-defense and a hallmark of personal sovereignty." He goes on to write the following: "it is specifically insulated from governmental interference by the Constitution and has historically been the linchpin of resistance to tyranny." That all sounds great, but I have a question for Mr. Napoliatano and the rest of his gun loving friends: Who, exactly, are these tyrants? Is it the government of the democratic party with whose policies they disagree? Is it their fellow citizens who they perceive as different?

This is the danger extremist like Napolitano present. When you start throwing around words like tyrants when referring to a democratically elected government, the slope down to anarchy starts looking steeper and a little more slippery. You get guys like Gregory Gawrysiak who no doubt (assuming he knows how to read) would praise Napolitano's article.

Would Mr. Napolitano have written such a passionate defense of his right to bear arms if a republican government was in power? Somehow I doubt it. I know that poor Fred Hampton and the Panthers who armed themselves after his assassination would not have gotten his support.

"The principal reason the colonists won the American Revolution is that they possessed weapons equivalent in power and precision to those of the British government. If the colonists had been limited to crossbows that they had registered with the king's government in London, while the British troops used gunpowder when they fought us here, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson would have been captured and hanged.
The historical reality of the Second Amendment’s protection of the right to keep and bear arms is not that it protects the right to shoot deer. It protects the right to shoot tyrants, and it protects the right to shoot at them effectively, with the same instruments they would use upon us. If the Jews in the Warsaw ghetto had had the firepower and ammunition that the Nazis had, some of Poland might have stayed free and more persons would have survived the Holocaust."

There is an anti aircraft missile and drone detection radar coming to a trailer park near you. (Psst, wingnut, the government will not attack you with a gun.)

"As we have been created in the image and likeness of God the Father, we are perfectly free just as He is. Thus, the natural law teaches that our freedoms are pre-political and come from our humanity and not from the government. As our humanity is ultimately divine in origin, the government, even by majority vote, cannot morally take natural rights away from us..." [Article]

Yes, for Jesus loved his Uzi.

Real simple.

We are a republic not a democracy. Our founders were extremely intelligent men and knew that most governments reach the point where "bread and circuses" buy off the majority who then wish to inflict tyranny on everyone else until the balance of the great American experiment could be regained.

Sound at all familiar?

While Obama's majority in the election was razor thin, with 30% of conservatives not voting and a potential 5% impact from voter fraud, he and some like you believe there was an overwhelming mandate for liberal policies defeated endlessly in the past to be rolled out now and damn the repercussions, let me tell you, nothing could be further from that. He hasn't been inaugurated for he 2nd term yet and already his lies divisiveness and incompetence are driving us under further.

Well back to our being a republic, we have a constitution and a bill of rights and no one, not even if there is a majority (which there is not on any of his issues) can take any of those rights away from any one of us. Those that wish to do so thinking they just know better and will force laws onto the populace without due process of following our laws and constitutional guidelines are nothing more than wannabe dictators and tyrants.

Look at history, you won't like it But every single action of late, relating to economic policies and belief, dividing and conquering, demonizing those that do not agree with him are eerily identical to precisely how Mao, Stalin, Hitler, Pol-Pot started.

Hitler was voted into office as a democratic socialist, he promised the same things Obama did, he also told them gun control was for their safety, he controlled the media and demonized any opposition as extremist, he also told them he had to nationalize the debt and spend more, he also crashed the economy and then you have the Wiemar republic.....

You may think he has good intentions. I don't. I see a man who shamelessly lies and splits Americans for furtherance of his extremely extremist agenda no matter the cost. Nazi on the rise who has no respect for the laws or most of the people in this country. He is a tyrant fighting for more power that he will never be afforded.

This isn't his first peek into a constitutional grab, it won't work. He can always follow the law to amend the constitution with congress and then have it ratified by the majority of states - or not. Any executive orders impacting a constitutional right will have severe repercussions.

"Who, exactly, are these tyrants?"

The President who has illegally changed immigration law, subverted congressional authority on the budget, authorized the murder of American citizens without trial, conducted a war with Libya without even consulting Congress, made completely illegal recess appointments, pushed through a major piece of legislation using "reconciliation" that compels every citizen to engage in a mandated commmercial activity, set up a snitch line to report those speaking negatively of the administration, gone to court to stop states from enforcing immigration laws as well to halt efforts of the states to control voter fraud, forbade insurance companies from informing their customers about the effect healthcare legislation would have on their premiums, forced religious organizations to violate their fundamental tenets by paying for birth control, who now threatens to unilaterally raise the debt limit and is seeking to subvert the Second Ammendment to the Constitution he has sworn to uphold.

Obama is tyrant and you are his lackey.

(Psst, wingnut, the government will not attack you with a gun.)

Remember that the next time you claim a policeman shot a kid who tried to shoot him did so just because he was black.

Is Obama playing games with his feint at the constitution? Is he/you and all democrats going to push really looking at gun violence in this country? It isn't done with rifles, oh no rifle shootings are a rarity, it's illegal handguns.

Because potential dictators spin reality and lie, they don't want to solve problems they want to seize power. If he wanted to solve the problem he would be talking to black leaders and the black community - not walmart and churches.

"But the discussion will not move to handguns because handguns are pretty popular in this country. Many people own them — far more own them than own semi-automatic rifles. More so, handguns are used in vastly more crimes.

It is not, however, just handguns that must be discussed when discussing gun violence. This gets to why we cannot have a meaningful conversation in this country and never will. To do so will get you branded a racist.

“Blacks were disproportionately represented as both homicide victims and offenders. The victimization rate for blacks (27.8 per 100,000) was 6 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000). The offending rate for blacks (34.4 per 100,000) was almost 8 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000).”

“Males represented 77% of homicide victims and nearly 90% of offenders. The victimization rate for males (11.6 per 100,000) was 3 times higher than the rate for females (3.4 per 100,000). The offending rate for males (15.1 per 100,000) was almost 9 times higher than the rate for females (1.7 per 100,000).”

“Approximately a third (34%) of murder victims and almost half (49%) of the offenders were under age 25. For both victims and offenders, the rate per 100,000 peaked in the 18 to 24 year-old age group at 17.1 victims per 100,000 and 29.3 offenders per 100,000.”

These are all direct quotes from a United States Department of Justice report released by the Obama Administration in November of 2011.

Very true, Hitler did not practice gun control for Germans. Jews however were not Germans and were not allowed to have firearms or much of anything else. Germans loved Hitler, he was a popular dynamic democratically socialistic leader who was a fantastic orator and held similar qualities to those who live the cult of personality today.

Does any of this sound familiar?

In Austria after Hitler was elected with a tremendous margin he:

-Promised employment would improve
-He would feed the poor
-He appointed czars and few were elected
-He created new laws Equal rights amendment to redistribute the wealth of the country and get single moms into the workforce.
-He provided government funded day care centers so the state raised the children.
-He created massive welfare as the government required everyone to be equal- Those who worked hard paid 70% taxes, [and those who didn't] were getting the equal income like those who worked hard. That’s called Socialism"

-Hitler also gave us free radios - today that would be Obamaphones.

-He nationalized the car industry
-He nationalized the healthcare system and destroyed it as could be expected

-The un-elected bureaucrats were writing all the rules and all the regulations. Like EPA, DOJ and NLRB of today without consent of the elected leaders under our constitution.

We also had gun registration. The Austrian people all had guns, but the government said, “guns are very dangerous. Children are playing with guns. Hunting accidents happen and we really have to have total control – safety. We have to trace criminals and the only way is by the serial number of the gun.” We dutifully went to the police station and we registered guns.

Not long after registering our guns, they said “no, it didn’t help. The only way we can prevent accidents and crimes is for you to turn-in your guns at the police station, and then we won’t have any crimes or any accidents.” If you didn’t turn in your guns – capital punishment. So we turned in our guns.

Dictatorship didn’t happen overnight. It took 5 years, gradually, little by little we escalated up to a dictatorship.

In February 2009 I was driving through Washington, D.C. as a lobbyist and I heard President Obama say anyone who is criticizing him should be reported to the White House, the Snitch Program. So be careful what you say.

Didn't Obama also begin to exclude his only challenge in the news? FOX for outing his lies on jobs created/filled, communists in his administration and such? He didn't expect the rest of the media to fight him on that.

Actions speak louder than false rhetoric.

It took five years you say?

So I get it, Obama is the tyrant. Well you might want to have a talk with your fellow mericans since they just gave the "tyrant" a second term.

Do Tyrants practice fascism in democratic republics?

During the Nazi period firms such as Mercedes Benz and Krupp Steel was given tax advantages and privileges denied other German companies. Not only did these companies favor Hitler's regime, but they were favored by the regime. This inextricable nexus benefited both parties since privilege was conferred by government which in turn bought political and economic support.

The recent U.S. government deal to avert the fiscal cliff by legislating income tax and capital gains hikes obscured another part of the arrangement: 75 special interest tax breaks - a list of corporate interests that receive tax perks and are not publicly revealed. Nonetheless, some of this special treatment has leaked.

For example, there is an accelerated tax write off for owners of Nascar tracks. There is a tax credit for companies operating in American Samoa, including the StarKist factory owned by Nancy Pelosi's husband. Distillers received a $222 million rum tax rebate. Most notable, film and television producers can expense the first $15 million of production costs incurred in the United States. This Hollyood special will cost the taxpayers $430 million over the next year. It obviously paid for Hollywood to back President Obama in the last campaign.

As one might guess, renewable energy in the form of wind and algae received $2 billion of credit even though the nation is going through a natural gas drilling boom. The more one is green, the more green bucks flow. Needless to contend, the total cost will be far greater than these estimates. And even though the stock market hasn't yet revealed its sentiments about this shady deal, this misallocated capital will assuredly slow economic growth.

It is not coincidental that the Obama administration pushed aside the primary bond holders of General Motors in an effort to give the Union of Automobile Workers (UAW) effective control of the company. In this instance, as in so many other cases, the president secured the votes he needed for reelection. The union did not forget what he did for them.

This kind of corporatism eats away at the public confidence in government. After the bill was struck, the president had the temerity to praise the legislation by noting: "further reforms to our tax code so that the wealthiest corporations and individuals can't take advantage of loopholes and deductions that aren't available to most Americans." By any interpretation this is a bald faced lie. The special privileges granted designated corporations represent the loopholes and deductions unavailable to the rest of Americans.

The DOJ did not count all of the homicidal abortions. If that had been counted, which it should have, females would lead males 2:1.

Field: I am interested in your perspective, as you are both a Jamaican by birth and a proponent of state paternalism. Does the desire of black America for an empowered, socialist state in some way reflect a yearning to return to a time before the chaos of total freedom? If one reads from Froude's (1888)The Bow of Ulysses (aka The English in the West Indies) beginning at page 28, the modern reader is first impressed by a racism it would be unimaginable to have in public now. There is not much meanness, and there are certainly even compliments for the blacks of The Barbadoes, but the underlying assumption of their inferiority and need (and even desire) to be ruled has one blinking in astonishment.

http://www.gutenberg.org/catalog/world/readfile?fk_files=1712795&pageno=28

Froude describes a happy people, and while he doubtless sees what he wants in large part, he does not seem easily deceived in other evaluations, where he allows himself to be surprised and have his assumptions challenged. I suspect he is at least partly right. The question then comes: would modern black people - not the ones who live in reasonable circumstances and write for publication, but the ones who live in dangerous neighborhoods and lose family members to violence - make that trade? It looks like a happy, safe, comfortable life. If you have children...

For me the second question is like unto it: Would I make that trade? It is a happy, safe, comfortable life. Such things look increasingly attractive to me as I age.

The principle reasons the colonists won the Revolution was because they were brave, determined, stubborn, well-supplied with the best black powder made in France, & finally succeeded in bringing a well-trained French army to our shores at the same time a French fleet achieved sea superiority off the coast of Virginia. Also, the Federal armies were comprised mainly of state militias with lines of command. Where independent partisan groups operated (Francis Marion "The Swsmp Fox"), these were brought into the command structure. Where they were not brought into the Federal command structure, as in Westchester County NY & the West Carolinas, there were violent anarchy, senseless murder, blood feuds, banditry.

Arms means individual weapons. Guns, knives, etc. It doesn't mean artillery.

Napolitano is correct insofar as we already have limits on weaponry that did not exist at the time of the American Revolution. The idea that there should be a standing army or that such army should have unquestioned military superiority over the people was anathema to most of the Founders.

Right on queue here comes the loaded question, but I will bite. :)

Yes I am Jamaican, and I happen to believe that Michael Manley
was one of the greatest poliitcal leadersin history. The fact that he happened to have Socialist leanings certainly influenced my political views. Had it not been for the work of the CIA (Google Phillip Agee) and there intense efforts to destabilize the Jamaican govt. he would have succeeded.

I am Jamaican, but I also happen to have Maroon roots (Google the Maroons when you get a chance) so I disagree with your premise that a society that with a more Socialist government promotes paternalism and a lack of true freedom. In fact, the opposite is true. It was the Western indoctrination of countries like Jamaica which brought along a docile and dependant people. There was never "total freedom" under a government that had strong economic ties to the United States or any other country for that matter.

These "happy people" Fraude saw were NOT Maroons. I can assure you of that.

Anyway, I think it's ironic that the gun advocates and the people who all of a sudden want to secede and take up arms against the government never felt this way when LBJ was transforming the social fabric of this country. It took the brown guy becoming president to bring on this fear of governmental tyranny. Hmmmm.

Thanks for those comments Evangeline. I always enjoy well thought out comments, even if I consider them off base.

U.S. Drone Strikes Are Causing Child Casualties: Video and Report
Posted: 12/01/2012 4:06 pm

During my recent trip to Pakistan as part of our upcoming documentary film, Drones Exposed, I was struck most by the stories told to me by children who had experienced a U.S. drone strike firsthand. The impact of America’s drone war in the likes of Pakistan and Yemen will linger on, especially for the loved ones of the 178 children killed in those countries by U.S. drone strikes.

War Costs’ latest video (with accompanying report) brings attention to the children who have died as a result of drone strikes. The video names some of the children who perished in these strikes, and points out the obfuscation tactics of American officials who will not own up to the significant amount of civilian casualties that have occurred due to this legally- and morally-dubious policy.

In addition to the video, War Costs offers this report detailing the effects of drone strikes on children. The findings come mainly from the diligent investigative reporting of TBIJ and the groundbreaking reports on the impact of drone strikes by Stanford and New York University researchers (Living Under Drones: Death, Injury and Trauma to Civilians from US Drone Practices in Pakistan) and researchers at Columbia University (The Civilian Impact of Drones: Unexamined Costs, Unanswered Questions).

In an effort to compel answers about why these innocent civilians have died without acknowledgement or explanation from the U.S. government, War Costs is calling on the U.S. House of Representatives to debate and pass Rep. Dennis Kucinich's bill that calls for more transparency regarding U.S. drone strike policy.

For more on War Costs’ upcoming drones film, visit our website, or at Facebook and Twitter.

Wingnuts can always be counted on to raise the level of discourse. Not! *shaking head*

Who knew you thought Uptown Steve and NuWang were wingnuts or are you being a racist hypocrite again?

How do you live with your own hypocrisy?

Every discussion is kicked to the curb with low brow accusations of skin color, dick size, hate of colors. Do you have any idea how infantile this all sounds and is? When we can see who are the ones who have nothing to add except mountains of their racism and hate which immediately ends any potential discussion. Of course this is the goal, they don't want reality to get in the way of their desire on how things should be.

Imagine having to figure something out and actually think about it without being able to shrug and say...you racist and relieve yourself of the responsibility for any semblance of critical thinking and cast all problems onto someone else.

You just "know" that the political opposition to Obama is because "it really is the reason" Therefore your accusations are supported by your refusal to think in any way except along racial lines, thus everyone must be racist because you say so, this is how you think and you just know it, so therefore it is true. Nanny-Nanny-poo-poo.

Now what type of discourse can be held with anyone mentally lazy enough to use his own racism to cast onto others while clapping his hands over his ears and shouting na-na-na I can't hear you, I just know it is so,l so it must be true and if it must be true then it is.

Why is there rarely an intellectual conversation of facts without your resorting to tired alinsky tactics of ridicule; without backing any of your claims and when really stuck, just call those you disagree with racist.

What a circular cesspool of hateful logic.

Froude is quite unrepentant in defending Empire and White Man's Burden. He assures us and gives examples that there are races which should not be governing themselves. It doesn't take long to discover, however, that he is not only talking about blacks, or Indians, Red or Asian, but about the Irish and Spanish as well. And frankly, he finds even the French and Germans rather unreliable in that regard.

I do know a little of the various Maroon communities and appreciate the great varieties of peoples among both black and white populations, even in space as small as Jamiaca.

By "total freedom" I was referings to the situation in America today; in the context of whether or not people were rejecting that freedom.

You don't believe that the evolution of American society over the past few generations has been toward ever greater paternalism (or is "maternalism")? The government cannot be given more power except that it is drawn from that of the people. Not to be entrusted with a fire arm? Income redistribution? Decisions like whether or not to buy health insurance or what products you wish to sell being made for you? The state has assumed more and more of a role in our lives, not just economically, but in the very foundations of the family by assuming the role of the father. This was expressly sold to women voters in the last campaign, most specifically in the "Julia" advertisements. A life free of want, risk, or true independence.

To James Anthony Froude, only those citizens of what we would now call the Anglosphere have had any success at self-governance, and even they get only a passing grade. He was explicitly elitist, but in a form which might surprise.

Perhaps the concepts of natural rights and individual liberty are relics of, as you put it, "Western (English) indoctrination" and as such are suitable only for Western (English) peoples. This is why the new America is turning from freedom and desirous of a system where they cede control of their lives in return for being sheltered from the chaos of freedom.

Yes, Wayne the Jamaican has lots of reasons to despise the USA.

Hey, Wayne, why not recount for the readers how it was that you got to become an American citizen so quickly and easily and didn't have to wait in line with the common people.

Just wondering if Hitler is spinning since he is being compared to a negro. Irony is lost on conservatives.

"How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think."
Adolf Hitler

Or in your case cannot think. I won't waste any more time on you. It's like trying to drip water into a bucket already filled with urine, there is no room for anything good.

I have a child who also shouts out something she thinks applies to every situation and gets her off the hook when she needs to think or answer something uncomfortable.

I understand. Why don't you just say I know you are but what am I, how pathetic.

Cheers.
