Et tu, Bozo?

"Now there's some sad things known to man
But ain't too much sadder than
the tears of a clown When there's no one around..." ~Tears Of A Clown- Smokey Robinson~

I bet that clown in Memphis, Tennessee who lost his job because he let "color arousal" get the better of him is crying.

Not because he was exposed as a racist (heck he might be getting pats on the back from his like minded friends for that), but because he might not be able to get anymore gigs anytime soon.

Who wants to hire a clown that has "color arousal" issues?

Honestly, I never really liked clowns. I always found them to be kind of creepy. (I think they call it coulrophobia)That is, of course, until Homey D. Clown came along. I always liked Homey. Homey was a Field Clown, he didn't take any shit from the man.

I wonder how Homey would feel about the clown in this story.

Still, on some levels I almost feel bad for this clown. I mean clowns don't make a lot of money. Maybe he was forced to take a job as a clown because black folks were taking all the jobs in his area. You know, all that affirmative action and stuff.

Anyway, now he doesn't even have his clown job anymore.  I am sure that his family doesn't think that this is funny.

Finally, the lies and smears against a dead teenager in Ferguson, Missouri continues to unravel.

First it was the lie about Mike Brown having a major felony (or felonies) on his record at the time of his death. This was being spread by the right wing noise machine (I see you FOX VIEWS) to drum up support for officer Wilson and to further demonize the dead youth.

Now another lie has been debunked. This one, led by FOX, had Officer Wilson with a fractured eye socket. There was actually a picture posted of him on facebook to prove it.

There was just one little problem.

"On Tuesday, a Chicago firefighter named Kevin O’Grady posted this photo to Facebook, claiming it showed Ferguson, Missouri police officer Darren Wilson’s injuries following his shooting of unarmed teenager Michael Brown. He demanded to know why “the media” was not releasing this photo in the aftermath of the shooting. Over the course of two days, the post was shared more than 40,000 times.

The only problem? That man isn’t Officer Darren Wilson. In fact, he doesn’t even look very much like him:

It was a commenter on the site Little Green Footballs that first debunked the hoax, discovering that the photo was actually of freestyle motocross rider Jim McNeil who died in 2011 after he suffered a crash during practice. The photo is from an earlier injury McNeil suffered in 2006.

Media outlets, including Fox News, have been reporting that Wilson sustained a fractured eye socket during his supposed physical confrontation with Brown since shortly after the incident occurred. CNN later disputed that account, citing sources that said Wilson’s x-rays came back negative for any facial fractures." [Source]

I can't wait to read about the next lie.

Well, we do know for sure that Mike Brown attacked Officer Wilson after robbing a convenience store, tried to take his gun, and then rushed him. So there's that.

No amount of spin is going to change the fact that this was a justifiable shooting by Officer Wilson. The only thing this dissembling accomplishes is to rile up negroes as part of an electoral strategy.

Did michael attack the police officer or not?

Simple answer FN, yes or no.

Mike Brown having a major felony (or felonies) on his record at the time of his death

Did Michael have any "minor" or non-serious felonies on his record?

Another simple answer, yes or no.

2 very simple questions a lawyer of your status could easily answer...

When did Michael Brown become Mike Brown? Is this a attempt by the left at repackaging?

"Now another lie has been debunked. This one, led by FOX, had Officer Wilson with a fractured eye socket."

More lies from field.

1. Fox wasn't the first to report from sources that Officer Wilson had a fractured eye socket.

Which btw, has been confirmed by ABC, WAPO, and a few other media outlets.

2. Have you seen the x-rays field? Did CNN get the x-rays?

NO? How can you call it a lie? Say the story has been debunked?

Poor choice? Really? Lets see, the gentle giant robs a store, gets loaded, fight with the popo and tries to steal his gun, then comes back for more. Yeah, lets talk about poor choices. I'm surprised the CNS shot stopped the gentle giant because his brain had to be pea sized.

Clowns are creepy.

I am always unsure of the rules about how much of a person's past and past choices factors into how their crimes are dealt with in the criminal justice system.

Field, if Michael Brown had a history of prior violent encounters, that resulted in police contact/petitions, (which is different from a conviction) would that information be provided to the Grand Jury as part of their deliberations?

A history of violent/aggressive behavior will be important in this case, especially if he was "known" to police. If that is the case, that would have been a factor in how the officer chose to respond.

But for the public gawkers - no, it doesn't matter. What matters is how the individuals involved in those few moments acted and the choices they made.

On some blogs, people have tried to bring up even more extraneous details about Mike Brown that don't matter and alot of people are making great efforts to smear both parties.

The chatter about competing "fund raising" GoFundMe accounts for various players in this drama is also depressing. Some people are treating this like a Crime Story version of the Army-Navy game. Sick.

Sad that something so tragic is another example of street theatre for public consumption and entertainment.

"Unfortunately a young man lost his life for no reason other than the guy with a gun and a badge got confused and lost in the moment and made a poor choice."

That's a little than more than disingenuous. If we, who know nothing, really, rely on the various witness accounts that have been posted to YouTube, Mike Brown turned and confronted then "bull rushed" the officer after a physical "tussle" with the officer seated in his cruiser.

I don't think the officer was "confused".

If the witness accounts are accurate, Mike Brown lost his life because he made some very impulsive choices that led to a result of no "do-overs". Teens make incredibly stupid choices all the time, and, yes, many of them do lose their lives because of their poor choices. Teen drunk driving/designer drug use experimentation are other examples. That doesn't make the loss of life any less tragic, but let's not shift the blame for the consequences solely onto the officer and absolve Mike Brown of any blame.

Field, for most Whites, the more dead Blacks there are, the better. And it doesn't matter who or where they are. That is clear. They are evil and proud of it.

Black on black crime hasn't decreased with a black President and black AG. I think by some measures, it's actually increased. Using terms like "gun violence" is also disingenuous because it attempts to deflect from the reality that it is people behind the guns who create the violence, not the GUNS. PEOPLE make the choice to kill other people, and they don't always use guns. Whether or not it is a subject for "trolling", it is something that must be discussed honestly, even painfully.

As for your comments about the calibre of officers, I would have to concur. My husband is retired US military and remains friendly with several people who had worked for him who are now on various forces and have been professional officers for some 20+ years. They lament that the demand for staffing for the ridiculous "War on Terror" and plus-up of the military depleted the ranks of priority candidates for police forces.

However, based on some of the information that was published before this event became over-politicized/radicalized, it would appear that Officer Wilson was no "rogue cop" but a dedicated officer who had won awards and elected to stay in the community, rather than move on to better paying pastures, as many before him had done.

One of the things that has alarmed me greatly is the aggressive policing and ramp up of military-style policing. That is definitely something ALL Americans should work together to push back, but making this about race instead of focusing on the issue will guarantee that won't happen ... which is exactly the way many people want it to remain.

Another issue I found interesting about Ferguson was the court money machine. Many years ago I had posted about the rise of debtors prison where people are jailed for the most minor offenses if they don't have the money to pay the fine ... a very vicious war on the poor. Seems that's how Ferguson is supplementing its budget.

Ferguson isn't the only community being terrorized by the very people its citizens thought were supposed to be working FOR them, not working to fleece them.

Again, make it about "race" and not the issue, and it's a non-starter.

Join forces with other communities who are also victims of the same predatory behaviour, and you could get this to go somewhere.

I think it is much much harder to get out of the poverty trap now than it was 10 years ago, and that is true whether you are black or white.

But dividing the people who are trapped is a good way of making sure they don't join forces to really change things.

The real issue is the choice of those on the lower rungs of the socioeconomic ladder try and find personal validation in guns, drugs and "easy money".

It's not just a "black" issue - Eminem raps about it in the underclass white community. The small community in Northern Ontario I worked in had many teens who had no interest in completing high school let alone learn how to open/run a business because their "plan" was to have an out of wedlock kid and deal drugs for the "cush".

How gun violence evolved as a way of showing social dominance/power/status in the underclass black community and why is the third rail of these discussions.

It's much easier to glibly snark,
"blacks are criminals" without any caveats.

The majority of black and mixed-race citizens are law-abiding people who are grinding it out like everyone else that isn't black or mixed race and trying to catch their piece of the American dream.

My older daughter had intended to volunteer at a free medical clinic in Appalachia when she was a pharmacy tech and she was told not to because it was "too dangerous". I don't think there were any blacks at all in the most recent census in the part of the state she had considered volunteering.

However, that type of violence/mayhem takes place out of sight of the media because it doesn't happen in major cities where THEY roost, ergo, it's not important enough to catalogue.

Whites 68 percent of aggravated
assault (attempted murder)

Whites 73 percent of sex crimes (child molestations, lewdness, etc)

Whites 67 percent of burglaries

Whites 85 percent of drunk drivers (4,500 people killed by whites...more than Blacks murdered)

Whites 67 percent of drug abusers

Whites 66 percent of crimes against the family

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2012/crime-in-the-u.s.-2012/tables/43tabledatadecoverviewpdf

Whites commit 7 out of 10 crimes in America...Blacks live in certain areas...whites are all over...86 percent of the time it's white on white crime...you're much more likely to be a victim of white crime than Black.

Have you ever trained with a weapon? Drawn your weapon? Been in a tense situation where you could be risking your life and potentially taking another's?

It isn't as easy or cut and dried as the TeeVee would have you believe. There's the adrenaline surge and the urgency to make a choice.

I'm not willing to condemn the officer, because all of the facts are not known to "us". What I do know is that there has been unremittant spin by actors who have other motives than doing what is best for the families and the community.

My heart does go out to the mother, Lesley McSpadden. From all accounts, she tried to do the right thing - hectoring him to finish high school, to think about and plan for work that would allow him to be self-sufficient and would give him a sense of pride and purpose. Teens make really dumb choices all the time, and parents are helpless to prevent them from doing so.
She doesn't deserve to be thrust into this whirlwind for everyone's perverse thrill seeking and chatter.

Not this again ....sigh. You leave for a few years, you come back to find ....nothing's changed.

Blacks constitute approximately 13% of the US population. They commit just under 40% of the violent crimes.

The other issue is hispanic/latinos are deemed "white" when in fact they are not. Many lower income hispanics share the same criminal impulses that is found in that segment of the black population.

My father in law owns a building in a poor section of Queens, NY. Many of the people are very poor Eastern European immigrants who don't even speak English. The balance are poor PR. The neighborhood is kept tidy and doesn't feel "unsafe" - in fact, it has a strong sense of community and people helping each other.

Yes, they did. Even though is "track record" of actually solving the problems and helping his constituents in the South side of Chicago were is pretty much .... zero ... they ignored that inconvenient factoid and saw him as a magician who would magically solve intractible problems.

From the few conversations I've had with various blacks I've interacted with during my daily transactions in my brief time here, the theme seems to be that many black people turned out to vote for him because of a sense of pride and more important, a sense of validation and acceptance that finally a black person had reached the highest office in the country.

The other sense I got from them was a profound sense of not disappointment exactly but a deep wounding with the knowledge that just because large numbers of whites voted for him, that didn't translate into any meaningful sense of acceptance and respect as full citizens in the complete sense of the world.

And whites thought by voting for a black man, blacks would finally stop "complaining" about racial issues and we could all just "move on". The fact that that hasn't happened has them just completely pissed off and unwilling to even deal with the issues any more.

Really sad on both sides.

Again, Tuesday morning quarter-backing.
We all want to rerun the plays to be the perfect plays. That's not life.

I personally have never been in that situation. I can only speak from second-hand accounts from my dear husband and from others close to him who serve as PD.

When he served, my husband was in some pretty hairy situations which involved split second decision making about taking a life.

When the eye witness accounts described Brown first assaulting the officer than charging/ "bull rushing" him (which I am given to understand is some type of football offensive maneuver), the officer was probably in a position where he feared for his own life. A 300 # angry individual, black, white or purple, charging you, doesn't leave you the option of "following" and "observing".

I am interested in the results of the full tox report, not because I want to use that to try and condemn Brown, but because it may give people a more complete picture of the emotions of the various actors in this tragic play.

I've heard accounts from more than one PD of dealing with individuals who are on particular street drugs that make them hyper aggressive. Our military faced the same in Iraq and the Stan.

Everyone seems to be lining up to pick "teams" - you're either on Team Brown or Team Wilson it seems. Being on the "right team" appears to be more important than dispassionately dissecting the facts.

You know who I will be really angry about if he skates? Mr. Pinocchio himself, Dorian Johnson. I can't prove it, but as a mom who raised some kids, my gut tells me Pinocchio took advantage of Mike Brown and groomed him to be his "muscle".

From his mom's own accounts, Brown struggled in school, which is why his graduation was such a triumph for the family. He had beaten the odds. That same academic struggle may have translated into low self esteem and being the "big guy" and "enforcer" may have given him a sense of external validation that he craved.

Unfortunately, there was no one older and wiser around to peel Brown back from his very unwise and heartbreakingly immature decisions in his encounter with Wilson.

None.

So I'm not going to presume to understand the "black experience" as it has been felt during the past few years here.

Sometimes it's easier to be honest with complete strangers you know you'll never meet again.

We're staying in a fairly nice corporate apartment, and there are a few black people also staying here. Given the daily rate here, I don't think they are at the "bottom of the rung" economically or socially.

But I've also struck up some pretty interesting convos with the guy that owns the restaurant we've been hitting for breakfast, with the very pleasant young man working at the Harris Teeter who explained why you can't buy wine in grocery stores in Maryland and gave excellent directions to a wine/liquor store close by, the maid here while she was waiting for her son to pick her up (really really nice lady) and so on.

I never stated they are the sum of the black experience or our brief convos reflected that. I was just interested in taking the pulse of people who had lived a very different experience from me to try and see the issues through their eyes.

So shoot me for caring.

I can't speak to targeting/wrongful conviction. But making excuses for those who do make the wrong choices and do commit crime won't help us collectively to deal with the underclass who DO.

And that includes white collar crime. Apparently all it takes is some strategically placed donations to the winning team and you are good-to-go!
Who cares what misery you create or how many deaths you may tangentially caused, because you're never going to be held accountable for your crimes -- you got cover at the highest possible levels!!

As far as the choking death ... I think the victim's name was Garner (not sure). I watched the video on YT and it was stomach-turning.

THAT is exactly the type of out of control PD behavior that we ALL need to push back against -- and focus on the behavior, not the race.

I don't doubt that race played a big role, but as my dear husband has patiently taught me over the years, sometimes we have to ignore the obvious if we want to win. You can be right, or you can be victorious. Sometimes you can't have both.

Good luck lady! :)

I don't live in Costa Rica. In fact, I've never been there. Ever.

We've been invited to stay in Costa Rica with a family we've known for years. Our daughters competed in the same sport, and there is a big competition being held in San Jose. Our daughters are both competing, and they've invited us to stay with them and watch our daughters.

I'm aware that there are black people in Costa Rica. I've also been told that it has become a very popular retirement spot for Americans, who are driving up the prices of everything for native Costa Ricans.

In any event, I hope to have a good time and see some beautiful country and eat some amazing food. Our hosts are lovely people, so I am sure we will see the parts of Costa Rica most tourists don't.

I do appreciate your concern, though.

Why the anger and hostility? You don't accept that there are, in fact, places in the world where there are no black people?

We stayed briefly in a part of the Lake District of Chile. There were native Chileans, but no blacks where we were.

We currently hang in a small and very old medieval city in an Eastern European country. We're currently leasing an apartment in a converted tithing storage barn from around 1400 or so. And yes, there are no blacks there. None. Zip. Zilch.

But thanks for your concern.
And I popped my head in hoping to engage with interesting commenters like StillaPanther to get a sense of how they are seeing things, since they have a depth of experience.

I don't know who you are, and given your hostility, no longer care.

I don't know. He isn't allowed to really talk about in any detail his experiences and prefers not to. He only really opens up around his fellow veterans.

One of the few examples he has shared with me involved a tense standoff at a checkpoint where a group of Hajjii crowded the up armored HumVee they were in, and refused to disperse even when told to in Iraqi dialect Arabic. They came very close to opening up on the crowd, apparently. It was a very tense few minutes.

That being said, he is not happy with the response of the PD in Ferguson with the military style tactics and equipment. I try to not get him started because it tends to ruin my evening.

Snark comments may make you feel like you're scoring some type of "points" in whatever perverse score keeping system you've internally set up, but it doesn't add anything to the discussion.

I started commenting here around the time when Obama became a real possibility for the Democratic nominee in the runup to the 2008 election. This blog was one of the few places that didn't censor people and tried to foster a dialogue.

Whites 50 percent of murders

That number is inflated as, get this, the FBI counts hispanics as white when they commit a crime, but hispanic when they are the victim of a crime.

Neat trick, huh?

Blacks commit 50% of the murders in America, yet comprise only 13% of the population.

Do you understand statistics?

Kersey said...

No white person fears being the victim of "white on white" crime, because crime committed by white people is overwhelmingly personal, whereas black on black crime is impersonal, arbitrary, and utterly savage in nature.

No one in their right mind has ever even uttered the words "white on white" crime, because such concentrated criminality by white people is found nowhere in America.

But black on black crime is found wherever black people in America are found, meaning those living near America's permanent underclass must be mindful of the negative effects of such concentrated criminality.

When you see a food desert, immediately know the threat of black on black crime is near.

When you see boarded up buildings, where formerly business was conducted and a community flourished, know the threat of black on black crime is near.

The collapse of property value in metro St. Louis and all of America is entirely a black phenomenon. White people flee the biological detritus of unwed black mothers, the bad schools their progeny inherently create and the poverty that proliferates courtesy of the crime committed by individual blacks that inhibits any outside capital investment due to the high risk/no reward scenario.

Meh. He'll be fine. Landing a gig blowing up balloons and cracking corny jokes at a kid's birthday party probably doesn't require a particularly demanding background check.

Plus, it's Tennessee. Even though it's not the Deep South, it is, nonetheless, the South. Down that way, they're still extra laid-back about the whole racism thing. Just sayin'.

Fed: Under Obama, only the richest 10 percent saw incomes rise

Under President Obama, the richest 10 percent were the only income group of Americans to see their median incomes rise, according to a survey released this week by the Federal Reserve.

The Fed data covered the years 2010-2013, during which period Mr. Obama constantly campaigned against income inequality and won re-election by painting his Republican rival as a tool of Wall Street plutocrats.

“Data from the 2013 [Survey of Consumer Finances] confirm that the shares of income and wealth held by affluent families are at modern historically high levels,” the report said in noting that the median income fell for every 10-percent grouping except the most affluent 10 percent.

“The 2013 SCF reveals substantial disparities in the evolution of income and net worth since the previous time the survey was conducted, in 2010,” the report stated. The SCF is conducted by the Federal reserve triennially and compiles information about family incomes, credit use, net worth and finances.

Well I think you have to admit that in a place like Ferguson where a Black kid can cop a legal offense/court case just for jaywalking, or dropping a gum wrapper on the sidewalk,or giving the side eye to a cat, or just what ever those super racist cops decide to pin on them! I wouldn't be surprised if they'd actually pinned a minor "crime" such as that on them! Just to give them a rap sheet and screw them up!

Given the history of those officers and that precinct, and their hostile treatment of the Black citizens there, I would not be surprised at all. In fact I would expect it!

So it's really all relative isn't it? and it also remains to be seen,

So now I want to see the entire report also! I'm pretty sure it will reflect much worse on the Fergusun police department than on Michael Brown.

I know what I and the world saw on TV.

I saw a mob of angry men in uniform pushing people around, calling them names on camera, even brazenly touching and pushing reporter and anchor Don Lemon, disrespectfully physically touching and pushing as if talking weren't sufficient. (that officer has since retired btw.
Among other out of order things I'm sure you also saw.)

I saw officers with no apparent code of conduct who gave the distinct impression that they are used to to doing whatever they please without following code of conduct regulations or even basic decent human civilized conduct, and without consequences for such.

and they knew they were on TV! Imagine what they do when no one is watching. Need I say more?

BTW this type of hostile, bullying behavior does create a strong feeling of resentment in their victims.
